They didn't read the names live at least and there. I think it was recorded last year. Just because of Kobe. "We got the champagne bottle machine time for the latest calling data. We actually shared the polling data with yesterday. You know, the one that showed that the majority of Americans do not find the current president, the United States will bind to be competent. 51% thought he was not competent. Or the office, So I'm not sure how he was allowed to ask the question, but a reporter Ash actually asked President Biden yesterday. How he reacted to news that the CBS this morning poll found that the majority found him to be incompetent Americans wanted to withdraw from Afghanistan. But they disapprove of the way you've handled it. Also found it based in part what's transpired in the last week, the majority of Americans Forgive me. I'm just the messenger no longer consider you to be competent, focused or effective in the job. I haven't seen that pool. It's out there. Um, from CBS this morning. Um, what would you say to those Americans who no longer believe it? Look. Had a basic decision to make. Either withdraw. America from a 20 year war. That dependent whose analyses except cost us $150 million a day for 20 years, or $300 million a day for 20 years. You know, I carry this card to me every day. And who, in fact where we lost 2448 Americans dead. 20,722 wounded. Either increase the number of forces we keep. We keep there and keep that going, all right, and the war And I decided to end the war. Yeah, but he never answers the question, which is well, he's making his little casting himself as a hero because he's getting us out will know we were going to get out is how he has taken us out. That's it. That's it. And, um, like I said, I you know, I have nothing but love and appreciation for the United States Military. I never served myself. Um, but even I can figure out from a strategy standpoint, that there's a certain order that you do things and the last to leave or the soldiers. You get your citizens out. You get the people who have helped you for the last 20. Years out. You get your equipment out, and then you get your soldiers out and you do it from your fortress. Which was your air Force base. Why in the world did they just evacuated Why it makes no sense to me. Like I said, the excuse has been that It was more from an optic standpoint, because again, this is this is all about optics with these people. It was more important for them to be in Kabul and protecting Kabul than it was to be at this this air base, And now we've got the CIA allegedly overnight negotiating with the Taliban. What's that all about? Plus, I think we're getting ready to send thousands of troops and potentially to try to extradite the people that we should have gotten out of there in the first place, and now we're putting our troops in harm's way. But it's the CIA. Who knows? Is that our State Department? Oh, could be 7 26 is our time here on Houston's Morning News. It's time to take a look at your money. Courtney Donahue is here. Well, so many people are looking for a new job since the pandemic. And a lot of people have retired, Uh, making that decision to I'm one of them trying to decide what to do with that. Let's talk about all of this with the C economic analyst Mark Hamrick. Follow him on Twitter at Hamrick ISMs. From Bankrate. He he's been joining us a periodicals and we appreciate that. Good morning, Mark. Thanks for joining us again. It's good to hear, um, strong voice, Jimmy, but you can't retire unless I can call you at home and we can continue these conversations. You can do that. Anytime I love to talk to you. Bankrate survey finds the majority of those in the workplace. Plan to look for a new job over the next year. What did the pandemic due to get us to do this? Yeah, well, I think for one, it's caused some reckonings or epiphanies, Jimmy, where people realize that there is opportunity to find new work out there at the record 10.1 million job openings reported most recently by the Labor Department, and I think what's most, uh, Enlightening in this data to explain the answer to your question is that 56% of those who are in the workforce or job seekers want work flexibility either determined by working hours or the ability to work remotely. Of course, that isn't going to work for every job, right. It can't be a first responder and work from home, uh, about 53% want higher pay and 47%. Prioritizing job security after that more time off vacations, pay or better workplace culture or more inclusive culture in the workplace. So I think that we've learned that we can work remote where it's appropriate. And, you know, many people want to work at least one day a week from home or work remotely, and the enterprises that can accommodate that. I think we'll need to integrate that into their environments. Right. Is it also that we you know when you sit around, and I think this is part of the retirement question, and I don't know if Bankrate has done that one, um, is You dream about doing some things. And you realize that well, you might get a chance to do those things unless you go do them now. And that's my That's basically my dilemma. And, uh, it was that great done that one about about people more because I don't wear people are retiring, aren't they? Yeah, they are. We've seen depending on the data, you know, let's say about two million additional retirements during this time than within the case and the questions being asked. Well, perhaps will. Some of those people come back into the workforce? And I think there's a possibility that some will once it's deemed to be safer, Assuming that it is we haven't dug into that question, but I think it's absolutely the case. I was my father in law just the other night was saying he was a retired cardiologist. Let's say You know what you need to get in the travel that you can Get in between 65 75 because if one survives beyond that point, then the opportunity can be made more difficult by lack of mobility and other health encumbrances. So you know, I think that I think it's absolutely valid question, of course, for those who have grandchildren or just perhaps Children. Adult Children. By that point, you know, there's the desire to want to spend more time with them. Yeah, no question. Hey, you check them out at bankrate dot com. Senior economic analyst Mark Cameron Mark Thanks so much We appreciate we'll talk to you again soon. Take care now. All the best, Jimmy. Thanks so much. Thank you. Thanks, George. Before we get to Rory, I just saw this cross and I just had to talk about the California recall election. Police in Torrance, California. Found a man passed out. In this vehicle. They found more than 300 ballots for the upcoming gubernatorial recall election. A loaded gun drugs And other stuff, including a bunch of driver's licenses, so there's no such thing. As uh, as cheating in elections. There is no such thing We've been told. Remember, Anyway, that's again with Rory. He is Athletics on the situation in Afghanistan. Morty Rory. Good morning. That was not me in the car. That's all I'm saying. Yeah, hopefully with the FBI and far is, although I don't know Gavin Newsom, buddy. Got him out already. You know, I haven't even been to towards right. Uh, yeah. So good morning, so those evacuations continuing. Still, the Americans, diplomatic leaders say, still cannot say just how many Americans are in Afghanistan, only saying thousands, which makes it difficult to know when all the Americans Have been evacuated if you don't know how many Americans are actually in Afghanistan. We've got. The Washington Post reported this morning that the CIA director William Burns, just held a secret meeting in Kabul with the leader of the Taliban with a Taliban leader. So perhaps some negotiations happening behind the scenes about this upcoming deadline. It's disgusting. We do know that none are stranded, though we we know there are no Americans stranded Depends on what the meaning of the words stranded is, I suppose? Yeah, well, they got it from Bill Clinton because he wants someone to the word is is so yes, Jen. Psaki? No, that's offensive. You use stranded Well, look, I'm stranded on Mommy Beach. I know that nobody's coming to get me. But those those Americans are stranded. Believe me, because nobody's going to get them right now. It seems impossible. And now we're negotiating with, like 1/12 century bunch of hooligans. It's amazing to me. Um, So the CIA director has been around the block for a while. This Mr Burns, he, uh, I think the most decorated diplomat who's now serving in the cabinet. So, uh, he was negotiating with sort of the number two man with the Taliban don't know the topics of it. But this is a Washington Post story that just came across the wire short time ago. All right. So how I mean, what about the deadline? What the White House said about the deadline. The red line in the sand August 31st, right, So we're going to get more about that today. Apparently, the president about three hours from now will take part in the G seven summit. The leaders of the seven big economic powers of the world. This is a virtual meeting. Uh, Afghanistan. Obviously, topic number one. Many of these same G seven leaders are our NATO. Allies and coalition partners working in Afghanistan now, so, the British defense minister said it's unlikely that President Biden will ask to extend that deadline. So August 31st may be a hard deadline. We're going to hear from the president himself this afternoon at 12 o'clock. Get ready for closer to 12 45. If you go by his normal running time, he's kind of late. Anyway. I wake him up. Kinda gotta wake him up, You know, set some ice cream on the counter. Maybe I'll get about some Geritol. I don't know. Now now, glass don't know. Yeah. Hey, thanks very much. Sure. We'll talk tomorrow, a good day and I see it. This house. Many theories got look at our sports was man. What you got. Jimmy Jamie Jamis. Winston sold the show on Monday night Football. Most of us tuned in to watch Trevor Lawrence, but the Saints QB back in Heisman form. He went nine for 10 123 yards. Too long Touchdowns. Both indexes closed at record highs for 1/5 straight session. The NASDAQ closed 29 points lower The government's report on July retail sales will be out before the markets open this morning. Economists think we'll hear that sales declined 3/10 percent last month. Reports on industrial production and home builder sentiment are also on the way and the quarterly results from Wal Mart and Home Depot will be scrutinized by investors. The situation in Afghanistan, maybe dominating the news cycle. But Facebook does not want misinformation about the crisis to dominate its platforms and executive of the Social Network tells Bloomberg. The company is proactively removing any content that promotes the Taliban from both Facebook and Instagram. Back to you, Jimi. Yeah. You love that the biggest disaster in the presidential, uh, politics in decades. And they want to remove anything I agree with you. Look, we don't want any nonsense for the Taliban and a lot of it comes from Russia. Episode is a lot of the other stuff we see and they're not concerned about that. They just want to protect Joe Biden's what they want to do. Uh, well, let's talk about social media with Miriam Saw Peter Peter Peter, our social media expert. If you need to reach more customers to grow your revenue, or you're looking for a new job search strategies. Miriam can help you learn more. Cappy consulting dot com and follow her on Twitter at Miriam Salt. Peter. Morning, Miriam. Good morning. I'm excited about this Yale publish something about social media. What are they looking at? Right? Well, we haven't discussed any academic studies about Social media platform for a while. So this is a good one Yell university published a study in the in a journal called Science Advances. And it shows that networks like Twitter encourage people to post expressions of moral outrage. And the reason is because it results in an increased number of likes and shares and into a case that would be retweets. So the Yell T measured this on Twitter during controversial events and studied the behaviors of individuals and controlled experiments designed to test whether algorithms on social media, which reward users for posting content that Gets a lot of attention. Actually, um, increases the likelihood that people will continue to post these kind of morally of outrageous posts. And they did find that members of politically extreme networks expressed more outrage than members of politically moderate networks. However, members of politically moderate networks are more likely to be influenced by wanting likes and shares. So if you have friends who are constantly posting things that you know to describe their moral outrage, maybe you can discourage them from doing it if you don't like or share it as much Right, Um, talk to us about some of these networks. I mean, talk to me about Tick tock, in particular had a conversation about Tiktok this weekend and Someone said once on tick tock and another one of someone my age, said, Oh, you learn how to golf and things like that. And then It was when they went to check. Talk was a bunch of girls in bikinis. I'm thinking Yeah. What's up with this? Tell me about this. Well, check talk is being more concerned with taking steps to protect teams from themselves. So you know, today we want to talk about the issue about privacy. And, you know, we've talked about this before. Most people who post things on social networks, especially teens really have no idea who is seeing what they're posting. And what kind of privacy settings they have. So Tiktok is taking some new steps to presumably protect teens, for example. When someone 16 or 17 joints, tiktok their direction setting, and that's the ability for people to message them directly, privately will now be set to no one so that no one will be able to, um direct message 16 or 17 year olds. By default, however, baking can actively switch it back on. So you know, that's just kind of a, you know a default option, but they're also taking steps to help people make sure that they know what they're sharing. So Tiktok is adding a pop up that appears when teenagers under the age of 16 are ready to publish their first video, asking them to choose who can watch it. And then with each video going forward, the people who post can decide who can watch what they're posting. So Tiktok is taking some steps to to try to help people know what it is that there Sharing who's seeing it and to try to encourage people to be posting things for friends and their direct contacts instead of for the whole world. God. And finally, I I love this from Twitter. Twitter is testing an option which might allow you to Remove followers in a way that they might not even notice. I wish every social network would do that to Facebook needs to do this, too. Right. Well, you could always have removed a follower, um and kind of blocked them. But you know, if you do that, then if they go to see your content, they'll know you've done it. So Twitter appears to be testing this feature that will give you the option to simply remove a follower. You see a menu item displayed in the three dots Tweet menu, And if you choose this, this would stop them from senior tweets. Um, although they would still be able to look you up and kind of re follow you. But if you want to just kind of slowly under the radar disappear from their world, and maybe they'll forget about you. This could be a way to do that. And that kind of like Facebook. You can, you know, do that a little bit of Facebook. Where if Ewan follower you know, people don't need to know that you have unfriended them. This is something that the twitters testing and we'll see if it becomes widely available. I think they should do it. I think Facebook should do it. I think a lot. You know, I'm tired of snoozing people for 30 days, every 30 days. It's like stop. Hey, thanks very much, Mary, um, at at Cappy Consoling Mary himself, Peter. Or can be consulting that contract finder? Thanks. Very well. Talk to next week. Take care. Have a good one. Bye bye. Were threatening the Cubans about that coming into the waters of the Straits. That we will send them back yet. You can walk across the border if you're Mexican or Guatemalan in Mexico, you know from Texas. Tell me what your thoughts about this are Well. The by the administration doesn't have a plan, which is interesting because the CIA a should have been able to pinpoint These uprisings before they happen. That's not one. That's where you start. So every every morning the president gets a briefing an Intel briefing, and then he gets an economic briefing and a media briefing. So as soon as Biden shows up, this is what is presented to him. So the bite administration should have known hate. Uh, because of covid. The shortages of everything in Cuba or intense and the people I've had enough Doesn't seem to be that they knew that If they had known it, they would have said Okay, we know that there's a very intense political pressure there, and that's what our asylum laws are. So if you are fleeing a country because you're being persecuted, you can apply for asylum in the United States. That's what it is. Now on the southern border. People go well. "Update at 7 30. Right now, Jimmy and share are working harder than your A C and the Houston Heat coming up at 11 cool off with us, The all new Clay Travis and Buck Sexton show Dick, Dick, Dick, Dick Dick Dick. We got ourselves some political time bombs out there with the Biden administration. 7 22 here on NewsRadio 7 40 Ktrh Congressman Kevin Brady. He's going to be in the district for a series of round tables and meetings focusing on Tax increases energy jobs businesses here in the Houston area, and there's a lot of things there to be concerned about, Sir. Which ones concern you the most. Yes, I think the biggest Jimmy Good morning by the world we had a good fourth. So look right now. I think while the economy's recovering our jobs recovery is not doing so well, the president's already about 700,000 jobs short. What he promised. When they passed that nearly $2 trillion jobs plan and we got a lot of workers still on the sidelines, Wages are going up that prices are going up faster than paychecks every month. President Biden has been in office prices have gone up faster than your paycheck, so families are falling behind that What we're going to talk about with our businesses are all the crippling tax hikes. President Biden is proposed on Main Street businesses on energy, especially he is He is, uh, really advancing a kill shot on the Texas energy, oil and gas industry with tax increases and stopping pipelines and stopping leases on oil and get on federal lands. While all the while he is begging the Middle East to increase their oil production. And so all this means that Texas is at risk of losing millions of jobs. Because of these tax increases. Well, clearly he wants to see the Middle East raise their oil exports because he wants to see the price come back down again. Because prices have been on the rise. There's plenty of states. Now They're into the mid threes or $4 a gallon. We don't have to deal with that in Texas right now. Sorry, hit the pocketbooks of average Americans, and if he can avoid them, noticing how high gas prices are getting them the the heat will be off, at least for now, right? Well, it will. But here's Here's the irony of it is he's shoving down American oil and gas production intensely because of this green new deal agenda he has. We are not producing anywhere close to what we did before the pandemic, and we're capable of so much more. And you're seeing these prices, not just at the gas pump. Put your bad enough. You're seeing it through the entire economy. That's why again. Paychecks are are are are going up as fast as the prices are, in, of course for Texas. All this means our jobs, especially for the Houston region, and he's just gotta. We've just got to target are back from this administration. Congressman. Do you think that this administration has any interest in innovation is relates to fossil fuels, and I'll tell you the reason why I asked the question. I had Phil Barnett on my afternoon show and KPRC yesterday. He's He's an oil and gas man. In North Texas, his company has developed an additive. He's just looking for a company to marketed that, he says. Of course, I can't prove it. But let's assume for a second. It's true that gets up to Um 90% more fuel efficiently efficiency, the normal gasoline and burns as clean or cleaner than natural gas. Do you think that the vitamin illustration would have any interest in a product like that? Or they so wrapped up in green new energy that they just want solar and wind and those renewable energies? The answer's No. They have no interest in anything coming from oil or natural gas, including the innovations that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And they are they are stuck. On this flat Earth thinking that you've got to raise the prices of energy on everybody, And then you got to kill off all the oil and gas south. That's the That's their thinking. The real solution of wherever you're thinking on climate change. The real solution here is Make Affordable energy cleaner and by the way, Texas Houston. The oil and gas industry were leading the technology and innovation to do exactly that were the solutions to these clean air problems, but this president is not interested in that. He's got two for the far left. He's got to continue to try to kill off our oil and gas jobs and later this week we should get some kind of decision from the them on If our oil gas companies are going to be able to continue to explore On federal lands and waters in that that answer could be devastating for Texas Congressman Are these meetings open to the public? Or is this just you the business owners in this case, I mean, with the business owners opening up to press afterwards, so that our local mainstream businesses and Realtors I can talk to the press about just about how devastating these tax increases are. All right, sir. Thanks again, as always take care. Yep. That's Congressman Kevin Brady. Joining us here on NewsRadio. 7 40 ktrh 7 27 Take a look at your money. Here's Courtney Donahoe. There. They want Already had Bipartisan group of Senators Look into it. We've had intelligence look into it, etcetera, etcetera. We know the answer. The answer is intelligence was not Displayed throughout the different groups and it didn't get down to the troops. We know that, but they want a different answer, so they're going to try it again. We'll talk about it. W D. National correspondent Royal Neil Following on Twitter at Radio Rory, weren't you, Rory? Hey. Good morning, Jimmy. I mean, that's what this comes down to, doesn't it? It's It's politics. It's not. Let's get the answer. We already know the answer. We had the intelligence. They just didn't tell anybody about it. Well, yeah, the House Oversight committee hearing yesterday with the head of the FBI and two other army generals was really more about the response that day. Uh, and how that can change in the future. You know, there's that weird relationship with the District of Columbia, the mayor who who can call up the guard, with the president and Maryland, sending in troops, and but all that Stuff has to be settled. So there really is some important policy that has to be hammered out here. But that's not the focus of these hearings. You know, it's all now the grandstanding. Democrats want to drag this out through November of next year. If they can Republicans are we're trying to change the topic and talking about Hunter Biden's laptop yesterday. So, uh, you know, both sides have their political agendas. But there is some real work that has to be done, and some staffers probably on these committees are actually doing it. Yeah, There were kind of weird things that came out yesterday when the Republicans started talking about, uh, that including there was FBI agents involved with some of this stuff It was. It was just It was bizarre. Uh, that's the part of it. Yeah, We had Tucker Carlson on last night, also saying that all the people that were there were dozens and dozens of FBI agents who were actually involved and perhaps inciting some of this internally, he said he he named, you know, he pointed to the unindicted co conspirators who have been listed in this and said they were all FBI agents. They may have just been some Dr from Florida who made the trip and is now cooperating with police, So they're not necessarily undercover agents. But that's another whole topic. We do know that the chairperson of the committee had emails from Parlor, the conservative social media website. Basically parlor called in the FBI saying, Look, we're seeing posts that this event on the sixth could turn violent. You guys might want to get ready for that and all that ended up in some files somewhere in the FBI, and they dropped the ball on it. Yeah, well, everybody dropped the ball that was in the hierarchy of intelligence with involved the capital. And so none of the men and women who were in charge of trying to keep the capital safe. We're aware of any of it. Right, And it took hours to deploy the National Guard because troops were already out doing traffic control. They had to be brought back in geared up to handle a riot and then redeployed and that took hours. So yeah, there are a lot of missteps all along the way, and this committee is supposed to be in charge of really trying to make sure it doesn't happen again. But we haven't even gotten to the committee that will investigate the whole thing. Yet the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, expected to create a select committee that will look at this from beginning to end. Course that's going to be partisan since they already shot down the idea of an independent committee. Of course, it's Nancy's in charge. It's going to be partisan. Regardless, it doesn't much matter. So the whole thing stinks out loud is what it does. It's all politics and we got to get away from it. That's what we're going to make Some changes there on Capitol Hill. Let's start with anybody over 80 years old will lose in San Francisco. How about 78 60? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, my, uh 26 20. I'm only 42 6 27, Rory. Thank you. We'll talk to you tomorrow. Good day. Republicans are pressing constitutional amendment term limiting members of Congress. Every term limits is one of those things that comes up. A to least once every eight years. If not more often, you know, the argument against term limits is, Hey, we already have term limits. It's called the voting booth. You don't like a career politician vote them out. But the rip the fact of the matter is we keep reelecting, regardless of party affiliation. We seem to keep reelecting. Career politicians, So maybe maybe what Republicans they're doing now we're maybe we're throwing up our hands and saying I think these people are unteachable. We're just gonna have to go ahead and go with the term limit thing. Republican strategist Jessica Cologne joins us What Say you, Jessica? Well, this or this movement has been gaining a lot of traction of late. It's been there for a long time. As you mentioned her moment is a frequent topic of conversation, and we actually just experienced it. Here in and city of Houston. Um, when we went to 24 year terms for all the whole council, and so you know, this is talked about the federal level. But Congress hasn't had the fortitude to Limit itself on anything and this is, you know this is something that is really catching fire in the grass roots, and there's starting to be some money put behind it. In this election cycle, 2020 this past election cycle. In particular, there was actually a national term limits group. That sent mailers out endorse candidates and really got involved. So we're really seeing this topic come to the forefront in more bold way. Ah, Boulder way than we've seen in the past. You know what, though? I don't think just could. Realistically we can expect career politicians to vote themselves out of a job. So is there another remedy short of Congress voting themselves out of office? Well, you know, the The other argument like you said, is that the voters can vote these folks out and that really comes down to the to the campaign to expose. Um, you know, exposed tenure exposed longevity, um as a zoo, a negative thing and some campaigns of successful on that and others or not. I, You know, there's there's pros and cons of those arguments. And, uh, you know, it's always great to put the put the real voters exercise their full. Right, um, you know, and and vote people in a vote people out as opposed to self imposing term limits. But there there is. There's a lot to be said for the concept of term limits When you look at Nancy Pelosi when you look at the fact that Joe Biden has been in Washington for 50 years, and you listen to the Democrats heralded His half a century tenure in the swamp. Just gentle sake. The new press secretary, talks about it almost every day at the press podium in the White House released then you over 50 years. Everybody knows him. Well, that's the problem and that he's a product of Of everything that's wrong in Washington. So this you know this is really catching fire, and it's going to be interesting to see how they take it into how you know these different groups taking in 2022 midterm elections and Um if it if it really you know, takes hold up in Washington Well for liberals is a badge of honor. I don't think conservatives look at somebody. It's 50 years where the experience of Washington D C is anything other than sloppy. Um, is there you know at the state level if you can at least get a minimum amount of cooperation From the state Legislature. You can take a question on something like this, and you can put it on a ballot referendum. Is there any any talk of maybe that sort of remedy only on the federal basis could we have like a countrywide ballot referendum on term limits? Well, I believe the talk is about a constitutional amendment for it. So you know, we'll see. I don't know how it'll trickle down to the states on def It'll land on state ballots, but of course you don't have federal elections. So, um, we'll have to see how each state wants to handle that.
