"While that photo sparked understandable controversy, Boyd believes Jones revealing words on why more black coaches aren't hired, got lost in the uproar. Jones admitted that in his experience, the actual job interview for head coaches doesn't mean all that much. He hired people he knew, like former cowboys coaches Jimmy Johnson, a former roommate with whom he played on an all white championship team at the university of Arkansas. And Barry Switzer, another friend from Arkansas. Jones did almost hire a black head coach, Dennis green in the early 2000s, but that was only after he worked with green on the NFL's competition committee and got to know him. Jones ultimately passed on green to higher Bill Parcells, who had coached the Giants to two Super Bowl victories. I didn't hire Jimmy through an interview, did I? I didn't hire a Barry Switzer through an interview, okay? But I didn't want Denny through an interview at the time, but I knew him, Jones told the post. The question, as Jones sees it, is how to escort black coaches into the circle of cronyism, so they don't have to be interviewed. Wrote post journalists David moranis and Sally Jenkins. Jones insists the most avid candidates will find a way in. To me, that explains everything, says Boyd. It's an old boys club. These old boys are going to hire whoever they want. Colts owner Jim irsay, for example, hired former colts great Jeff Saturday as interim coach this season. Saturday had never spent a second on a college or professional coaching staff. Indianapolis finished one in 7 under Saturday. These guys do not want to hire black coaches, says Boyd. Maybe when they make the decision, that's not at the front of their mind. Maybe they don't say, I'm not going to hire a black coach. That's the result. They can think of a 1 million 1 reasons why not to do it that have nothing overtly to do with race. But when you look at who are the coaches in the NFL, it speaks for itself. The chiefs held their Super Bowl victory parade yesterday, the enemy will reportedly interview with the Washington commanders on Thursday. For their vacant offensive coordinator position.

"Ahead of the other. And if you need some help with that, you can check out my other podcast over there on Toby Christie dot com, rowdy dragons, NASCAR fantasy podcast. I'm covering all the head to head matches, breaking them down for you over there. Go check it out. So I welcome any of you new players to come and join us, show us what you got. See if you can't come out on top like Louisville max did last season. I'm coming off a second place run. This is my second second place finish. I've got two championships here at the final lap weekly, and one of my second place finishes I have to reiterate that I lost that by one point. So every point here is super important. Just as it is in the race. Okay, it's real quick this week. I'm gonna move on to make some driver picks for you. Let you know, who looks good in my eyes and tell you why. So I'm gonna take a look at three drivers. We've got bubble Wallace, Austin Dillon, and none other than Jimmie Johnson. Bubba Wallace, he's in the 23 car. He's got 11 races run here at this track, with an average finish of 12.4. He's got four top 5 finishes and four top ten finishes in those 11 races. He's led 23 laps over his career at this track with no wins as of yet. He has collected stage points in 6 of 12 tries that is only with 23 11 racing. We're just gonna look at where he has been performing better and that is with that crew. He has yet still to win a stage over there with that 23 11 team. Now since bubba has been with the 23 11 racing team, he has finished P two three times, and in the season opener for the 2022 season, while finishing P two, he had a good run with a driver rating of one O 4.7. So I'd take a close look at bubba. Now keep in mind all these pics are prior to anybody getting on the tracks. So once the guys get on the track, do their qualifiers and practices and whatnot. Then you'll have to make adjustments as you see fit. So moving on to the second guy Austin Dillon, he's in the three car, running for Richard Childress. Got him a new teammate this year in Kyle Busch, so we'll see if that picks him up any, but he is a good super speedway driver. He's got 19 runs here at this track with an average finish of 14.7. For top 5 finishes finishing in the top 5 21% of the time, 9 top ten finishes. That is 47% of his finishes in the top ten. He has also led 85 laps at Daytona coming home with two wins in that period. He's collected stage points ten times over his career with one of those being a stage win. Now Austin has led laps at Daytona in his last 6 runs and his latest win came here back in August. Dylan has an act for being up front on the super speedways, in the end, when it counts. So consider him for your lineup. And last but not least, the 84 car, which used to be the 48 car of Jimmy Johnson, I like how they inverted that. He's got 38 races run on this track with an average finish of 18.3. He's got 12 top 5 finishes that's 32% finishing in the top 5 and 16 top ten that's 42% of the time he finishes there in the top ten. He's got a whopping 302 laps led with three wins to his credit. Not out of 28 tries he has collected stage points in 9 of those races. Still has no stage wins at Daytona. So when you got a guy like Jimmy Johnson in the field, you have to consider using him for a couple of reasons. One, he does have three wins. Two. Using a Jimmy will free up a slot to use later in the season, helping stretch out your driver uses. What I preach about regularly. And three, if he gets wrecked out in a big one, you will not have wasted a valuable a list pick. Not to say Jimmy isn't an a lister, but he'll need some time to figure this car out. And you'll also have a hard time running out of Jimmy's unless he does manage to win this race, which could completely change the complexion of his minimal schedule. And lastly, he is Jimmy. 7 time champ. So consider these three guys for your line was this weekend, make sure you keep an eye on the qualifiers, see how these guys are running. Again, make the adjustments as necessary, but I see these three guys as teams that you probably won't go using all ten picks and running out. It is important to stretch out the season. Like I said, I will be preaching that a lot to you. So basically that is all I have for you for this week. Once again, if you want to get a head start on those bonus picks as well. Come on over to Toby Christie dot com, click on the fantasy tab and look for a rowdy dragon's NASCAR fantasy podcast. I think I want to put a wrap on this one because we got to get this out the door because it's going to age in a few hours. Seriously, we're going to this is going to make us look really bad probably in a few hours with our qualifying picks. People are going to be like, oh my gosh. Yeah, we got most of the stuff in there. I think we got a good handle on the 500. This weekend, but yeah, let's get this out the door. Checkered flag flying on the show. This has been the final app weekly catches next week right here. Sometimes they're marriage is fantastic. Sometimes it's not just like i'm sure many of you all's but it's still marriage with a person that you committed with and that doesn't mean right that it's for everyone to stay with the same person forever. People get divorced and plenty of people who've gotten that's their choice. That's you know what's needed for them at the time for their decision No judgment there whatsoever Again this is just shared right. We figured twenty years experience is pretty good and the professional world. That's considered pretty experience. So i'd say and they married world. But i'd be interested to hear from some of you all right when i post this episode on people process progress dot com or on facebook or instagram. "A man. I'm going to give it their all. Thank you greg. a. Jimmy jimmy johnson. Limerick how does jimmy. Jimmy johnson feel about that limit thumbs up. That's the good stuff right there. All right well thank you jimmy to a man. We think that was pretty good. Kurt warner the hall of famer who works for the nfl network and westwood one. He was on the call last night. Of course the super bowl. Mvp a couple of times. Kerr tandel the color commentary. Cowboys packers last night with kevin harlan on westwood. One what did you think was going to happen last night. Kurt not not what i saw. I felt like the The champs we're gonna come out and now dominate 'cause i i felt like the cowboys would be better this year but i expected it to be close to a double digit win. I expected to be not hanging in the balance Like it was and you know credit to the cowboys credits. That credits at the game plan. I mean i think they did a lot of good things bucks. Didn't look as good as i think. We all expected them to look coming back with all the starters. You expected them to pick up where they left off they were. They were a little They they they were all over the place. If you're cowboys fan today how do you feel pretty good. You know moral victories. We always talk about him. Say that that's that's not really a thing in the nfl. Because it's about winning football games. But i just said what. I expected to happen last night and the cowboys took him down to the wire cowboys had opportunities. They made some mistakes. Otherwise may be. They could have been in this game in hand a lot earlier but i think the biggest thing is is that prescott. You're coming back from the injury. We wondered what we were going to get. You just sign up to the big deal. Some people were still wondering is he. A franchise guy can carry this team with his right arm answered all of those questions last night You know. I think what they can be what they want to be that they wanna be at throw first team. Which is what the. Nfl has gone to enact showed him. We can do this. And the defense stepped up and made some plays when they need to still. I don't know if it's a championship defense yet. But if you've got an offense that can play like that. And doc plays like that consistently. They're going to surprise a lot of people and they're going to win lot of football games this year cowboys fan. You're excited today going. We went toe to toe with the champs and probably should've worn that football game. We're feeling pretty good about herself. I more concerned lack of a running game or the lack of pressure on tom brady. I'm gonna probably say pressure You know the lack of running game You know worries me a little bit. You wanna be able to run it. Especially because that's what their identity was the last couple of years but what we saw last night is what a lot of teams are starting to do. Now is that it's running back by committee and a big part of their run. Game is the quick little wide receiver screens bubble screens. That you stroke a guy. It's just that's become the nature of our league So everybody's doing that stuff. So i expect dallas to do a lot more of that. Maybe not the typical handed off to zeke You know run between the tackles my my concern. Is that again when you play. Good teams good. Quarterbacks you have to get consistent pressure and last night it was almost like nonexistent. You know tom brady. We all know how great he is and the offensive line's really really good. But there was just no consistent pressure and in critical situations when you know they have to throw. You've got to have some guys that can do that. And they did not. And that's been kind of theme over the last couple years even with tank lawrence and some of those guys up front that you expect to be able to be more consistent in that area so that to me is. It's probably the biggest concern with tom. Brady athleticism to lose. I think we're waiting to see if his arm strength is still there and as a former quarterback. How would you assess tom. Brady's arm strength yesterday. The last time i mean to me. There's there's there's no way she there and you know it's really. What do you look at. Because i know a lot of people look at arm strength and they say how far can you throw it. Well okay if that's what you're a barometer is. We have a hail mary at the end of the half where he throws it. A good sixty yards launches it up in the air no problem you barely need to throw it more than sixty yards in a game at any point in time but to me when i look at arm's strength i look at the ability to You know throw from eight to be. And i always use the term but soft near the ability to put enough on a ball that it gets there quickly but also the touch to put it where it needs to be and make it a your receivers and we saw that over and over and over again last night with tom brady He can throw it. Go out and you could throw those balls down the field touchdown to be no issues with how far he can throw it but to me to see other stuff is that there's zip on the ball. The ball's getting their win. It needs to get there. So i mean i know we. We continue to talk about it. Then and i'm i'm with you is that he plays the game a certain way and he always has. That isn't just going to fall off the shelf and all of a sudden he can't play with his mind. If you can't play with timing. And i believe he's always going to have enough arm strength to be able to play this game as long as he's got that power behind it and show to me. He looked as good as ever last night and I know we're all amazed by it but I just expected every time now is that he keeps himself in great shape and you see that every time he steps on the field but explained to us that that window that you have and how how quickly that window closes when when you're back they're trying to process all of this and you can see something but you gotta make it happen. Explain that process in your mind. Well i mean the process. The idea is just knowing ahead of time. What you're going to do and you know that is the difference between guys like tom brady. And these young guys that are extremely talented and they have these unbelievable arms. They do all this stuff. Tom brady can process and see things beforehand. No have a really good idea on what he's going to do after the snap and that's the whole game and especially when you get older is that it's about being able to know okay. I know what i'm gonna get here. All i've got do. Is this guy if he turns his shoulders that way. I'm throwing out here. He turns his shoulders this way. I'm throwing it back inside and a guy like tom brady watching him. Process that information in. No you know. We always talk about this with quarterbacks right. you're not gonna show. Tom brady something he hasn't seen before well. That's just a relative term because it all comes down to what you see in that moment. But he's so good at knowing. Who do i look. At what defender do i read on this particular play. And if you can simplify the game and you don't have to go where eleven guys are at all times you need to know one or two guys are at all times and if you know which one or two guys that is on a play it makes the game easier and you can just processing get to the guy that wants you and tom brady again. It's you know the best a lot of different things. But he's the best in the business of being able to see those things and process them so quickly so we can do the right thing with the football. You were twenty eight. I think when you made your first. Nfl start now. Zac wilson's twenty one. What would you have been like. Twenty.

Oklahoma i'll you a picture i mean. It's it's hilarious. I i was fifteen years old. You know when. I when i went and and so i had known jimmy. A longtime turned him down at oklahoma state. Turn them down when i was transferring when he was at the university of miami. Next thing i know he's. He's the head coach at the cowboys. When i'm coming out of college and he said you can't turn me down because i'm big number one overall and i. I was hoping he would turn me down. Because i really to go to dallas but i got a call from from jerry jones. I'm gonna. I'm gonna drive back to henrietta oklahoma for the weekend. I got a call from jerry. And he said hey says the supplemental draft coming up this weekend. And i want you to know that if we get get the pick. We're gonna take. Tim rosenbaum who was also a pac ten quarterback at the time in washington state. He said we're gonna draft tim rosenbaum but we're only going to take them and we're going to trade him and i said yeah okay. I didn't think anything of it. I don't even know what the supplemental draft was like. Whatever and i thought that man okay we take him and then we ship them. And then i'll never even see them. You know it's not a big deal. Well they didn't take rosa. Bali state walsh and so then all of a sudden. You've got a quarterback who won a national championship at the university with jimmy. There miami i just it created some real tension With with me. And jimmy. And and me and steve the whole thing was was was kinda tough and then and then when you lose on top ball that it's it's not good the the my rookie year i was on eleven as the starter There were games. There were plenty of games. Didn't play very well but there were some games right play exceptionally well and yet only to lose a game late and have it taken away from us in the last minute of the game or whatever it might be. I just remember walking off the field so many times that rookie year man. What do you got to do to win a game in this league. I couldn't believe it. I never been through a stretch like that. You know eleven starts and eleven time walking off the field and defeat and fortunately for me. My second year we opened up at home against the chargers and we won the game and And if we had started that off with another law. I'm and i finally got that you know out of the way but We were we were pretty bad and to think that we turned it around as quickly as we did. The hersal trade obviously had a lot to do with that but a lot of things came together and it was a it was a magical time to be in dallas And especially to be a part of the franchise. I think it came to easy as what happened. Because of jimmy of course never been the nfl jerry new owner in the league to win a world championship three years after you were the worst team in football I i think that had it happened differently. They would have been more tolerable hoop each other than they were. Yeah i also think too. It's such a credit though when you look at going through a little bit of that adversity early on you and jimmy coming together in its eerie. That you said what you did about what you're looking for and a head coach. And and a lot of instances. I think those same traits apply to the quarterback position. 'cause you're nightly thrust into a leadership role and if you don't have the ability for when people are looking at you and there's a little bit of adversity say. I believe that this person can help us. Dig our way out of this hole and adding your coach quarterback any of your key leaders whether it be from your coaching staff or from your players. That's got to be such a cool perspective though. And now here you are getting ready to introduce. You're going to be the guy. Introducing jimmy johnson. You've already been in. And now here he gets in after you know the things that hey sometimes it doesn't always start off great but now here we are. That's got to be a pretty special thing roy. I mean watching when you found out that he was inducted into it. You can't fake data emotion. I remember watching thinking man that that is what people love about sports in the thing that you just can't replicate an any other arena because emotions in the relationships that you build. I get emotional. Still shine thinking about that moment when it was when when he got surprised. I mean we're doing the game. And i'm shonda halftime and and i might produce regarding my ear and said hey they're doing a little thing at halftime they want. They want you to be on headset. Listen to it and that's not that it doesn't happen a lot but usually it's because they're going to be talking about something that happened in the first half and they want me to be able to talk a little bit more about it in the second half and so i had no idea. And and the reason it was so emotional for me Was because here's a guy who meant so much to our teams right in our success and yet he hasn't been properly honored for his contributions. I mean he's not even in the cowboys ring of honor and so we talked that he and i have talked about. You know him not being in the ring of honor. I know how much it would mean to him if he if he were and he should be and i never really thought that he would go into the pro football hall of fame because i didn't think that he had done it long enough. Not that he wasn't deserving. I just thought you know. It's one of those deals where jimmy wanted to go to the florida keys and fish and unfortunately that's going to keep them from ultimately get into the hall fame and and so when all of a sudden i'm watching this and then here comes david baker and he. He says you know you're going into the pro football hall of fame to see..

What about Jim Acosta? He's such a jackass and so disrespectful to our president and Pelosi. Oh, my God. I just about died when I heard her say that the president should be in jail. Where is their respect? Where's their ethics? It's just so degrading and being from California it's insulting. Well, I I think Pelosi has disrespect for all of us. She is disrespect for the Constitution, the rule of law. As much as she tries to dress herself in it. We must reject it. We must call them out. "Jimmy. Johnson describes how his rolex twenty four started with himself behind the wheel to kick off the entire race and to have an opportunity to drive action express to have my former sponsor with ally on board and chelsea's here jeff gordon. You know pre-race. Although i did miss the fans now being there there still was just a great energy To be standing there knowing. I was getting ready to start This just amazing event. You know. I've never had the honor to start in this race before so a lot of really cool emotions and memories and thoughts at all. Never forget pine now jimmy during that first step behind the wheel was et more. Making sure that you didn't wreck the race car. And kind of keep yourself in contention for the rest of the team. Sure you don't wanna be the one to break the toy so to To miss some of the carnage. There were a few close calls. That i had ellen pico. Some some kind of two or three white off. The king and was spinning came back up on the track and turn five right in front of us. That one really got my attention because the dirt and dust was in the air and i couldn't see and pick the right lane and was able to squeak thyself certainly a lot of nerves to deliver the car in one piece and i'm so happy to have that out of the way can go rest and just kind of fall into the rhythm of what this race needs. Look for jimmy behind the wheel. The chip ganassi number forty eight indycar this season at road and street courses on the schedule.

Daily - Jimmie Johnson had a rough 2020 Cup Season
"For jimmy johnson. Let's just say he had a ton of obstacles in his last full time season. In nascar you get into the year and oftentimes times. They're things that disappoint your stress. You out in a negative way. And i haven't made it that far into the season to encounter any of that But last year was a really intense year. You know had very high expectations for myself The year didn't go as planned obviously Having my cova positive covid nineteen tests and missing the brickyard and missing the playoffs. You know there is a lot of negative stress on me during all of that so it can't come back at you know. This is motor torn. I do do recognize that but last year at least you know the middle part of the year Into the start of the playoffs you know it was an uncomfortable pressure. A different type of pressure. That experience too often jimmy johnson compares the cars. He's driven in the rolex. Twenty four nascar and indycar from the dp. The dpi is the car does move around in the corner. You do lack rip off and have to drive the and there's a big window to slip and slide in that that's much more in line with my nascar days. I'm finding in the indycar that that window to slide. Things around is so narrow and i've i've looped it on corner exit multiple times now a result so i i feel like i'm able to once i get into the turn and leave the corner in a dpi car or i'm still on edge in the indycar.

"Smart speaker. Every NFL team now officially has a head coach. It was announced on January 24th that the Eagles new head coach would be Nick Syriani. He spoke to the media about what's going on with their quarterback situation. We have two quarterbacks in Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurd. Center top notch. They're top notch quarterbacks, and a lot of teams don't have any and so just excited, just really excited to work with both of them. So does that mean that they will be an open competition at quarterback if they both returned That's something that we have to look it looking in value evaluate, and I'm not ready to say that either way, yet we're just evaluating our players evaluating every position. Let's let Eagles reporter Tim McManus evaluate Syria Anne's comments. P. Listen to Syriani today he wouldn't even commit the Carson Wentz being on the roster in 2021. That is a far cry from where this organization was. Just a few short months ago and tells you Ah lot about the current state of affairs. Remember, Whence has not spoken publicly since the end of the season. He has not signaled yet whether he sees a path forward and Philadelphia and its Syrian his job to help bridge the divide that was created during the 2020 season. He's already reached out to whence. He said that that conversation was a good one offensive coordinator Shane Steak and also reaching out to Owens, But it's to be determined how Wentz feels about coming back, especially with Jalen Hurts in the fold. So the right player right now. To take it slowly. If you can get Wentz back in the fold, then you think about maybe a quarterback competition Come this summer. That'll be a good one to watch play out. On Thursday, the Texans announced that their new head coach would be David Collie. He spoke about how he found out about how he got the job. And, of course what's going on with the show on Watson. Sean Watson's of Houston, Texas. He's a quarterback of the Houston, Texas, and that's all that loud was concerned about, and that's all I knew. And whatever was been said about what was been what he wanted to do. He didn't want to do all I know. Is this having been in this business this long? You know, he is a Houston, Texas and I want him to be a Houston, Texas. And the reason I'm in this position today is because I knew he's going to be a Houston, Texas, and so That the outside stuff that was been said wasn't around to me. Texans GM Nika Serios spoke about his position with Watson as well, organizationally just want to reiterate our commitment to Shawn Watson. He's had a great impact on this organization. The great impact on a lot of people great impact on the scene. And we look forward the opportunity to spend more time with him here this spring. Once we get started, and you know, we have zero interest in trading the player Hall of Fame, a head coach, Jimmy Johnson, knows what he would do if he was in Cali's position. If I was David Collie, I go knock on his door. I do whatever it takes. I put my ego aside and say, Hey, the best thing for you to stay right here. Make concessions, do whatever it takes. Do not lose that player. You know, as far as trades, you know, it's so difficult with the salary cap with the contracts. Well, really, what you're gonna do compensation wise to make trades, but the Shawn Watson you're dating. Kelly needs to try to keep him there. Try to talk him out of it. So the drama continues in the NFL and in college basketball as we saw another top 25 upset. Number 19, Illinois taking on number seven Iowa It was good, so let's go to the second. Your sumo Open quarters. Kennedy.

"So we've got Jimmy Johnson coming up in a matter of moments here on the show all the fame coach a lot of cowboys questions obviously jump around the league, too. Of course, you know, I think this would get to this this hour with Big Ben. Within untenable number 47 ish million dollars against cap. I mean, they've got all there's no way that could happen and it won't what I find interesting. I don't I don't know how much This will impact the Cowboys thinking and I'm not even sure that it should. I want to throw that she was with wait for coach to give us a buzz. Jimmy Johnson. You look at how you know. And you've You've always talked about this. You might actually go where I think you where I think you probably will. You know, the Rams gave golf too much girl. Too much money too early. The Eagles committed to wins, You know too early. Yeah. If you're the Cowboys here, you just kind of step back and you look around the league and you say E mean outside of the two or three guys, you know the Mahomes the breezes and the Brady's even the Brady's taking a discount of 25 million season. Are we at the point now where really every single team every team around the NFL, and that includes the Ravens when they start restructure Lamar's new deal, etcetera Josh Allen for the Bills. Do you start to say? I just can't justify giving that kind of money unless I'm 1000% sure, And the way you become 1000% sure. Is probably by getting to the Super Bowl minimally and probably winning it. Yeah, no, it is And it's can. I was a couple days ago. You hear when you when we come in every hour bt that the Pat Mahomes thing, how it's messed it up for everybody, not only the mess it up for the achievement point point for these young quarterbacks, he also mess it up for the contract. Some of these young quarterbacks and we can get back. There's a little bit later cause. I know the coach coach Johnson is there, but like he signed a deal that it's so it's enormous, but it's so team friendly. And his average per year is nowhere near what some of these other guys are are making in real time, like the real money not to cap money, the real money, so he's gonna make people thinking organizations thing to Ah lot for these teams to figure out there's no doubt it's a lot of cheese that gets spread pretty thin. When you deal with the salary cap a ticket just said We have coach Jimmy Johnson hold the fame coach. Great Collegiate coach Great NFL coach. Great broadcaster, help of fishermen. Jimmie Johnson would've coach Teak interior Hey, doing today, buddy. Everything's going good. I love always. Accolate. You're going my way. I'm not lying. Jimmy. You were in the mall man way we're talking about you're the new ad. That's out from a culture and that's what you're here for. And And I wonder I'm gonna ask you this question. Um, because that's the slogan. Are you happy Because you win, or did you win Because you were happy? Did you love what you were doing? Because I think about some of these coaches. Bela Chick is one that pumps the mind. Saving is another on the college ranks. They don't look like they're happy doing what they're doing. Did you love what you were doing when you were doing it? Both with Miami, which I'll get to in a little bit. And the Dallas Cowboys. Well, I don't know. Without question your I love what I was doing. I love women. I well being on the sideline. And you know really those that is saving and and Bill Belichick and obviously, I know both of them really well, Bill and I have been friends ever since it's Cleveland days and he comes down teacher. I mean, he's just happy as can be. You know, obviously you're winning makes him happy. I know one time people that don't know him. And they know that we're friends. They said, you know. Hey, is Bill Belichick happy? I said, Yeah, He's happy and tell him Don't tell his face that because his face but I know what you look at the Michelob Ultra commercial that really struck a nerve with me. As a coach, you know, obviously I was happy when we won. But you look at it and you maybe, you know if you go to your happy You're gonna be a better coach, or you're gonna be better. Whatever you do s so it's really a cool commercial on top of that would make a little boat throw. You know, 95 calories in 2.6 carbs keeps us healthy as well. Just keep that hair looking as good as it still looks. Jimmy, Let's go. Bold guys. Yeah. What the hell, dude? I don't know what I think. I got the hair from my dad. He had Lone black hair for a long time before it turned white, which might have. Yeah, I got you. So you know, we want to ask you about back and he said, Well, get into Miami stuff, too, But But Jimmy, just watching football that obviously chopping it up with the guys on Fox every every Sunday's you have for years. I mean, it takes quite Ah, a few bad decisions to go from where the Texans were last year in the playoffs toe where they are now, like you wanted to draw right up a book, the Anatomy of messing up a franchise. This might be the most egregious mess ups plural in a long time. So how do you How do you even fix it? And like, how can you even try to salvage this relationship with Shawn? Well, you know, I think without question David Cole. He's got to go there and knock on the door and they got to spend some time together. He's gotta talk him into stand. You can't lose a franchise quarterback like it now they made Tremendous mistakes in the past. No, I haven't liked two or three of the trades that they have made. But the big one was letting Hopkins go on. And I'm sure that didn't sit well. And so you look at some of the traits that they made. You look at some of the draft picks and so You take these change, but One of those changes cannot be losing franchise quarterback. That's a great player. Um, somehow they've got to mend that fence and You know, like I know my first year in Dallas, you know, ahead Troy Aikman as my first round pick, but also attracted Steve Walsh. Well crafted walls for one reason, so I could trade him because I knew that you're quarterbacks. And I eventually trading for 12 and three But you know that first year we were so bad, and I had to walk a tightrope between the two quarterbacks because I didn't want to diminish the trade you for walls. Well after I traded walls, I went to the toys home. And we sit down and we talked. He wants Gettinto tropical fish. So we went on. I spent the day with him way set up a fish tank had a couple of cold Bigelow up all throws and on. So we meant to defense and I think they would call He's gotta, you know, work that way. You know, he's got to get, you know, watching back on board because you just can't afford to lose. You think Coach let me push back because I know that you're already on the record that you wouldn't trade the shore Watson even for Herschel Walker type of hall, But let me flip this back to you and challenge you. In this regard because of previous trades. In one of what you just referenced. They've lost talent. They've lost rap picks there in salary cap l I could make the case if the Texans love either Zach Wilson or Justin Fields. If they can move to other number two with the Jets or three with Miami, get the quarterback restart the salary on the young quarterback collects, the mother asked assets. Can't you make the strong case that that's a quicker way to rebuild? Then trying to repair the relationship with this young Watson with no other draft equity? Well, I think you know there's a chance that you could rebuild. But there's no guarantees that those young quarterbacks are gonna be of the caliber of a championship quarterback. And I think the Shawn Watson is more than just a championship Quarterback E think he's one of the more elite guys in the entire league on so I mean Would be out venture to say, 99%. They were not going to be Anywhere close to watch him. Mm. So you've got less of a quarterback, And if you've got a friend, if you got a quarterback of that caliber, you have seen it in the league. Year after year. Teams go from One of the worst, winning the championship for winning the division. No teams with the salary cap. With free agency and the draft if you draft well, and if you're smart about getting some of these free agents, some other cheaper, please free agents. You know, you could turn this thing around and one or two years..

All those sort of things came together and made a really easy to relate with them, but on the same at the same time, It was great. "It's a target demo Friday who we made it to the end of the first week. Of Super Bowl hype. Next week, we ratchet up that dial to about an 11. Today, though, to pro football Hall of Famer is how cool is this? You guys know I geek out this time of year when our guests include Super Bowl champions and pro Football Hall of Famer with legends of the game. Joining us this morning on this show will be can Houston Pro Football Hall of Fame safety of the seventies. He was an elite defensive back during his era will talk to him coming up at the top of our number four. And in our number three If you're not making tacos. He don't love you no more. Two time Super Bowl winning head coach. Bronze bust in Canton. Jimmy Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Steve the only you making tacos. I love you as soon as you'll make no talking. I don't love you no more. It's funny how the D a show works. I'm not sure any of this is quite planned, but it is cosmic in many ways. Some years ago, our caller Charles, Big Dallas Cowboys fan called up and had that take That the current Cowboys were a tackling anybody. He remembers the good old Cowboys the nineties, the last great era. Jimmy Johnson stressed. Make the tackle. Make the tackle. If you make the tackle. I love you. If you don't I don't love you. No more. We felt as though it sounded though, like Charles was saying tacos. So that became a running joke gag on the show just last week. In fact, super Dave Dave Friedman, who does college football picks here on the show, it is also the voice of the Winthrop Eagles. Don't worry if you can't follow along. It is confusing. Use this as his final call because he lost a bet here on the show. Became so popular that one fan made T shirts that say. If you're not making tacos, I don't love you. No more for the winch, Making tacos. I don't love you. No more for the Winthrop Eagles, and it just so happens that today. We have Jimmy Johnson booked on the show. Now, under normal circumstances, I would dig deep into those Cowboys teams and his divorce with the Cowboys after a second championship. What happened between him and Jerry and the Herschel Walker traded all of that, and maybe we'll get to that. But today I'm most excited to conquer this D a show with one goal and one goal only. Ask him whether he likes tacos. Whether he loves anybody that doesn't make tacos. Jimmy Johnson and our number three Elsewhere this morning on the show to Shawn Watson continues to remain adamant he wants out despite a new head coach in Houston, and some interesting, cryptic tweets to go along with it. We also have Tom Brady really slathering on that love with his head coach, Bruce Arians. What does that tell us? We have this date and Super Bowl history. And is this Super Bowl a legacy game? One prominent announcer believes so. So all of that this morning on the program, which I'm very excited about. If you want to jump in any any of those topics you could do so By dialing a sop it 855 to 1 to four, CBS. That includes DJ Tommy D 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. Or on Twitter D A on CBS. What was that, Pete? No, it doesn't. Oh, DJ Tommy will not be welcome today. I don't know about that today. Okay? Well, sorry, Tommy. I can't control that. That's up to Pete. You need to make your peace with Pete. But From a Pittsburgh Steeler standpoint. If you call up with a take and you disguise your identity, perhaps Pete will pick up that phone call. Because we've got big better off this burger News Art Rooney and the Steelers admit that they'd like Big Ben back. But not at his current price, which would be over $40 million this upcoming season. His 39 age 39 season. So there seems to be a lot of vagary around here as big Ben says. I think I want to come back. I'm pretty sure I want to come back and art, Rooney says We we want you back, but not at that price. But We can work with you and big Ben's saying I want to work with you will figure this out. Money doesn't matter. Which begs this question. Are the Steelers gently pushing Big Ben out the door. It is where we begin your cold Open, which and Kevin have.

Alright, likely, right so We've been discussing Mike Singletary today, potentially being a D. C. Why didn't they talked authentic? I think they're gonna make him the team President next year your lips to God's ears. That's what you want to be a good hire. That's a Danny find Gary Fencik. There was a time when he was doing weekly hits on sports radio, where I thought that guy's on a fast track to be in somebody's front office like the Bears front officers. Yeah, but you know, he's like a financial wizard. I guess he wouldn't be interested now. Maybe they're too far removed from the game. But that's what you wanted when you were going through transition after Ditka. That's when you start doing it stopped doing the mom and pop stuff. Then you're like, OK, Dick is out. Thank God. This is taking all the excess oxygen up in the room. We gotta Jimmy Johnson guy here, Dave Wannstedt. Let's just get going. Start stacking our chips. Getting ready through the nineties version of the Bears didn't happen. What about Peyton Manning? About it. Danny was watching the video of him last night, and we have some of what it Woz and this is Peyton on he was doing what Danny a seminar, so they brought him in to talk to the University of Tennessee coach is it's kind of like he's a consultant, and they bring a man he walks in this room. There's probably 25 30 coaches just sitting there staring at him. And you could hear it. The minute he walks through that door, the commanding presence he has and listen to him when he talks about football and what he expects in practice and what he expects from players during the game. Everything he says You see it yourself, man. A if he ran to the bitch ran the Bears. This would be a dream come true and be everything he's saying does not apply to household. I have been impacted by coaching. I have a huge believer in being coached. It makes a huge difference. I like to be coached. I get frustrated when I'm not coach or corrected on the steak that I've made.

A totally great don't you agree? That was awesome. A woman rob a woman, All right, we're gonna close with. I wouldn't want to play this audio the past couple days, and it's one of my all time favorite political interviews ever. It's not with Trump, but I think it's totally applies to trump and sums up what Trump was up against. And what is going on in Washington now because it's not a Democrat or Republican thing. It's an us versus them thing. And look, I know this guy's a lot of people consider him a squirrel, but I think he's a fascinating figure in American political history. That's Jesse Ventura, former governor of Minnesota. He was a Navy seal these professional wrestler. I mean, the guy's just just a fascinating guy and He did a until you years ago. I think this was 2015 with a guy named Grant Benzinger, and it was about his life and they went through the whole thing and it's on YouTube. You can see it. It's It's incredible tonight all time favorite political interviews and He talks to him about. It's about whether winter would ever run for president and what he would do and what he's up against. And it totally. It was before Trump. This interview was before Trump, but it totally applied to what Trump was up against. And it's the most perfect way. I can think to end this thing today and sum up what Trump tried to take on the past couple years. Take a listen. In order, so I include them is them. I don't distinguish between the two parties because there is no difference after you were both owned by the same corporate ownership. In other words, if you go to sports, if you bet on both teams in the Super Bowl, you're not gonna lose. Are you Well, if you own both candidates, you're not gonna lose. Are you Well, and that's why you've said you wish politicians would have to work NASCAR type suits with the logo. Yeah, I wish they'd require anyone running for president to wear a mask Our shoot with patches dictating who owns them? I mean, it's simple. When you see Jimmy Johnson, what do you see Lows. Red prom that he's got all those others smaller patches around it. Well, if Jesse Ventura runs for president, there won't be a patch on the suit. It'll be clear White. I imagine some of my opponents wouldn't have enough shoot to put the patches on. They may have to have a subordinate wear one, too, so they could get all the patches on. How much do you fault the candidates for that? And how much do you fault just the system. I thought the Democrats and Republicans in the system they've created. You notice? I don't even discuss the candidates didn't do that. When I went for governor, either I run against the parties because the candidates are nothing but puppets to the party. The party's got the strings there. The puppets. Hmm. Wow, this trump suit. Was clear. White Mm. And Thank you for doing that President Trump. Thank you for your sacrifice. And there's only one fitting way to go out today and It's Donald Trump talking about Rob Kendall. Well, I really appreciate how nice you are and you know, get terrific. I wish I could ever everything for you Just like this. Okay? That would be that would be a great dream. But you really you know what's happening? You know what's happening. "All without coach again. Are you fairly certain certain outcomes? Urban Meyer, the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, What do I do with the number one overall pick? Potentially. Trevor Laurence is the quarterback. Yeah, Urban Meyer is back. He'll be back on the sidelines this time in the pros with Jaguars. He's their new coach. He does have first pick of the draft. He also does plan on keeping his health and mind regarding this new gig is health scares have played a role in his departure from Florida and Ohio State. He also recognizes there will be a transition. In the college game to the pros, something Jimmy Johnson has done Meyer on that subject. Jimmie Johnson has become a very good friend. Over the years and our time and Fox together. He was a guy that I leaned on very heavily during the television. The last two years, But then I have had a few phone calls with him recently. He will be a resource for me. He will be a guy that I'll speak to quite on frequently, and I think there is a perception out there. He told me that you know you have to be much different than you are in college, and then you have to be in Professional football, But he made clear that players wanna win and players they want to win. They understand their value. Their brand and their lifestyle improves if she went and they want to be around winners, so I'm very enthusiastic after speaking with him. I've also spoke toe. He's still going to be able to coach his system. He that's not the problem. The problem is learning. Who's playing Learning League and I mean learning the whole league. You've got to know. Who's doing these jobs for these teams? What are the prototypes necessary? Who are the players who have to contend with as opponents? You have to know the league? Very well key. When I was coaching, I'd probably never disclosed this. I used to take two teams today. 20 or 30 minutes every morning and go over the rosters of two teams. Just try toe. Think about the players on those teams What they looked like in the draft. What I have thought about in the draft the next day I would do to other teams. Would go all the way through until I was done with all the teams in the league and I go back and start over. Yeah, That's Bill Parcells talking to his former player, Keyshawn Johnson Johnson on what he thinks Meyer needs to do 100%. Is understand who he's dealing with. Looking Ahead After Kentucky Speedway
"Beli go to the all-star racist of course midweek. We're excited for that, but then on the next points race Texas in points. Were there a premium now? Kyle because Cole custer winning this race taking a playoff position only nine races to go before the cut-off yet you know we talked about it a couple years ago when Chris Butcher won at Pocono when you're outside the top twenty five or back in points far enough, and then all of a sudden you leapfrog into that top. Top Sixteen, and you don't just leapfrog into that top sixteen you leapfrog into the playoffs. You leapfrog all the way that's how simple it is with that win, so I think when we look at that that puts a lot of pressure on sixteen, Seventeen, eighteen, also on fifteenth fourteenth. Thirteenth twelve these guys. It tightens up it again I'm back to the musical chairs, analogy, the music just stop for somebody and that top fifteen and they got bumped out. They went into this race thinking. They were only a few points in or a few points now and now they're out completely. They've to figure out how to find their way back into it, so that is the amazing part, and that is the exciting part for me about watching these next eight or ten races leading up to that bump leading up to that playoff situation, because there's so many things so many strategies that go into it and you've always got to be looking behind you at a team that can jump. Jump in and win a race. Yeah, so yet. Pressure is mounting now so when this season started. What feels like two and a half years ago? It's hard to imagine that we're talking about just non-racist until we get to the play offs, so I think that because of everything that's been happening. I'm not sure how many people have even been paying attention to those playoff standings that much, but with coal customers win. That is open. Everyone's ass is open. The eyes of those people that are. Back to sixteenth Jimmy Johnson sitting in that sixteenth spa is the eyes of some rookies and some other teams that haven't won yet, but see that. Coq Gun win a race. That says that this is open to anybody and everybody could possibly do that, so the the pressure's GonNa. GonNa, amount here and we've. We've got racist coming up as some very difficult tracks, a coupla double header weekends that Never GonNa come along so many things happening that we can see a lot of shakeup in display off standings as we look at, it might not look anything like what we see right now, but cold customers proved to the world that is out there for the.

Jimmy Johnson to enter Hall of Fame, but not in Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor
"Really truly believe. It's embarrassing for the Dallas Cowboys. That Jimmy is now a pro football hall of Famer and that it actually took this. You know a specific centennial annual class for him to get in and that he's not in the ring of honor that's it's it's a shame it really truly is yeah it is And and you know I don't know we don't know you know the behind the scenes of of all that but it certainly does you know put Put their among you know on the front of the The world stage just to you know. How do you explain this right? Yeah and the guys in the hall all of fame because of what he did in your organization. Yeah he's not what dozens yeah. Yeah no exactly You know so yeah I mean I I you know I agree with you and you know it's also you know kind of you know how like we always talk about things you can't plan you know the the same very same week that Jason Garrett Leave the organization. Mike McCarthy joins the organization and then Jimmy Johnson gets inducted into the pro football hall of fame. I mean you just can't plan that I mean and you know so here is McCarthy now you know he's now he's got you know quite a high standard To you know to shoot after and then you know I I wish him the all the success and hope he surpasses that but you you know. That's pretty high standard now. Yeah I WANNA get your. We've got a criminal out into the end here but to finish the tai-bo on the Jimmy Jerry. Thing it you're right like there could be. I mean because you know there's an infinite amount of possibilities or I guess it's technically fine but I mean there is potentially a reasonable or at least somewhat understandable reason. Why Jimmy Johnson's not during a fire like that possibility does exist? But you said it I mean you. CanNot it really explain this in all this does is really make Jerry. Jones look poorly. I don't think you know I think that you look at it. I don't believe leaving Karma that's not like you know our faith or anything but I do think it's at the very least interesting that you know so you know because people say Jerry's there is only in the hall of fame because he stood on. Jimmy shows whatever but. I think it's funny that you know denied that Jerry was celebrated with cowboys fans at Agency stadium. Liam for going on you know when they give them their hall of fame ring. That night was the night. They lost to the eagles in two thousand seventeen. That's literally the worst loss ever in a ged stadium sister. You know what I mean. That's just a really funny coincidence. And you know you look at Gil Brandt who also took way too long to get him to honor and he just barely got in there before before he got into the hall of fame and at the time the writing was on the wall that he was going into the hall but Gil Brandt went in the night. They beat the saints in two thousand eighteen. You you know what I mean this like incredible night everyone will remember forever or as Jerry went on this one that everyone wants to forget and it just I think those are funny things that automatically you know make paint Jerry in a poor light or whatever he did release a statement And he said were so happy that the hall of fame has recognized. Jimmy Johnson. Awesome for what he is. That's the first sentence and it's just like well. Then how have you not you know. It's a really unsettling thing and I think that like like throwing a boomerang. Yeah it's a really a hypocrite. I don't know what word to use but it it looks really badly on the cowboys organization. That that it actually happened. I mean great for Jimmy Johnson. But you know you know. Somebody tweeted at us on the block on the boys camp. It said that Jerry should inductive an I vehemently disagree superior that the moment should belong to Jimmy and Jimmy alone because he did he has not gotten that do in cowboys fans. He should bathe in it all in his own. If he wants have his players you know like we talked triplets. Think that would be cool but this you know. It's a really really really bad season for Jerry. Jones the owner of the cowboys. And this is kind of the. You know the closing of that circle so to speak. Yeah no I totally agree and and the yeah. Yeah I mean I I think that You Know Jerry Has Been Very very kind of to due to Jimmy in terms of you know whatever success cowboys have had in terms of including hammer recognizing them for that in fact you know may have even gone out of his way to try tried to leave him out of it but You know this it's here is something he cannot ignore it. I mean it It's very vivid. Part of You know with the cowboys success is is due to and And Yeah I think it's Jimmy's opportunity. I'm you know Going there and enjoy the moment with themselves by you know himself on on a standalone basis as a as a dynamic coach that You know did some some pioneering things to change the game and I do believe that firmly
