Bomani and Spencer Hall on Miami's Cultural Mixing Pot

"The thing that I never forget about Miami, 'cause you talk about the line, right? And I guess we're at this point now where kids don't know about this, by the way, Spencer project you need to put a pin in. The January 1987 fiesta bowl, right? That's correct. Impossible to explain to people what a cultural flashpoint this was. Miami versus Penn State and is the whole, you know, a whole lot of stuff happening. You can go look it up. I can't get you into everything. But the most legendary thing about it was Miami gets off the plane and the team is in fatigues, right? 1986, they all get off the plane and fatigue. And it's all associated with like Jerome Brown. Michael Irvin Alonzo highsmith, Melvin bread and all those guys. But if you look at the clip, but when they got off the plane, the second or third dude office, they tested birdie. They're all kinds of clips in the U documentary where you just see Vinny Chester Bernie posted over these dudes in shades. He loved every minute of this. I don't think he was gold with them dudes nowhere, but he loved it. That is correct. And that is, you can get that kind of like, even if we take it out of the U, which I think is probably if we were to explain to somebody the prototypical example of Miami blending cultures very rapidly over the through sports, that would be one. The Miami Heat, this Miami Heat team. If you have ever seen Tyler hero and Jimmy Butler discussing swimming or the lack of ability thereof. That to me is an example of dudes who just found the right place to manage to mention a place where that kind of stuff can happen and it can happen very, very quickly.

"If the Celtics were the win, going through the nets, the heat or the next of bucks in the heat. And the Golden State Warriors to win a title. You have to now, I mean, legitimately. You have to look at this as one of the greatest runs in the history of the association. Based strictly on the teams that they had to get through the individual players. And the individual players were talking out Durant, Kyrie. We're talking about taking Yanis at peak power. And he is at top of the food chain right now. And then you have the Miami Heat two years removed from an NBA final with a player who was as hot as any players ever been in the last two games of a playoff series. So if the Celtics are able to win four more games, the historical significance of this can't be overlooked. This is significance of me being absolutely insufferable for the rest of the summertime. And that would be the thing that would be the absolute worst thing because it's not like I can hide from them, right? It's not like I can't pick up this phone call. Every day. I spend more time with this guy, honest the goodness, then I was thinking about this the other day. A lot of my friends, they're all married, got families. We don't see each other. I see Chris brockman, minimum of 25 hours a week in person, and then we probably talk over the course of 7 days for another hour on the phone. They'll be wearing that Boston hoodie sweatshirt that he has every day for the rest of the time. Get a Tatum finals Jersey and wear it every single day the rest of the summer. Well, I mean, you should. It would be well earned because he would deserve that. Chris, if they win, will you get an I love Tatum tattoo on your own? On my arm? Yeah. No, no. When you see a thing I tagged you in on Instagram the other day, the guy got a Boston. I've seen that before, so when did he get that last year, right? Yeah, it wasn't this year. So he think it was last year. So we should do that. And we should make brotman get a little calf tattoo with a Cloverleaf or something. The little lucky leprechaun because he will do it on this arm, right? But when his calf, you know, what about a river situation? Wake up on this butt? Yeah, maybe on the butt cheek. Yeah, I don't want to make him do that. I mean, it's going to be hard enough to get him to do it on the calf. When you talked about the historical run that Boston could potentially go on. I mean, if Golden State wins, we're now in a whole different conversation. We're talking about the dynasty of the tens, into the aughts, or into the 20s, and then we're talking about where curry ranks all time. We mentioned it last week, suddenly now he's in the top ten. Suddenly now you're having the conversation of him compared to LeBron James and Stephen a Smith said that this week that he thinks curry is going to get two of the next three. That's what he said, yeah. And then his 5 will be more than LeBron and suddenly he's now above LeBron. I mean, just the things that we're going to be talking about, I think, two weeks from now, are going to be pretty outrageous and ridiculous, but that's kind of what we do here. And you know guys, normally I hate outrageous and ridiculous sports talk radio takes, but because that's what we do for a living, I'm here for it. You have to be for this in particular because what if what if Steph does with another ring? What if the average is like 35 this series and they win a ring and he finally gets his MVP? Yeah, and that's the thing, right? We're talking about the MVP. That's the one thing that's kind of eluded him. And I feel like that's the thing that people, if they're going to hold anything against them, it's like, well, you didn't win Finals MVP. That's final. He has to win MVP this year to cement his legacy is still always going to be there. But when one MVP in four times would be would be kind of like, oh, what went on this final? But even though you can't, you just have to go and take a look at the stats and go Iguodala got MVP for holding a man to 38 points per year. Something like that. Yeah, yeah. I mean, the most, yeah, that MVP was absurd that it was great. No business winning it though. And then you have the one year, I mean, LeBron should have been MVP on the losing team. Even though he didn't win the finals, he was so good. So, but yeah, Steph, I don't, you know, that's the thing. It's like the staff replaced if he wins another ring. I'm sorry. Four days, you get the 5. Yeah. I love Steph Curry. But in no way. Shape or form am I ever gonna sit here and tell you stuff is a better basketball player than LeBron James? What about this? And I'm 1000% never, ever. Listen to me, Adam, because I think never, ever, ever, ever, ever. Magic Johnson is the point guard. I didn't say magic. I'm just saying, I'm just going to throw that out there because I know there was Kendrick Perkins, big perk said that. Steph, wait is he bumps magic off of his Mount Rushmore? Let me tell you who's place is solid and Mount Rushmore. It's never. And that's the other thing. Mount westmore is only four. Guys, by next week, let's come up with some difference. Not magic, but I was going to say if he wins a fourth championship, maybe Larry Bird is replaced. Oh. Larry Bird has only three championships. He didn't play that long. He had a back injury, played till he was in his early 30s. He also had three MVPs. He's very straight at me. He did have three straight MVPs his peak was incredible. One of the all time greats. What? Just because of stuff's longevity, the fact that he will have one more championship than Larry..

"Outside too, 'cause we're kind of going back and forth. And I just left everyone. And I went outside in the yard. That's only from the flex on this out of me as an outside TV. And I started cleaning up the yard while the game's going though it's still? While the game was going on because I just needed, I couldn't just stand there and watch it. Because I felt the collapse coming. I feel you. It just felt like they were going to lose. And Miami's going to strews hits the three and I scream at the top of my lungs in the backyard, just like F bomb so loud. I'm sure it freaked out my neighbors. Yeah, and the neighbors definitely heard, right? And then there was a timeout, and then there was a timeout, and then, wait, what happened? Oh, no, Marcus smart missed another wide open three, right? And then butler's coming on the fast break. Look, I've been playing basketball, my whole life. That's my favorite shot. A fast break pull up three when nobody sees it's coming. And he was hot the entire game. Hot the entire game, but here's the deal. I thought it was going in. I thought, I thought for sure it was making it. But in hindsight, you look at it. Miami got every call on this game. Jimmy Butler has been getting every call the entire series. Al Horford, as great as defensively, has he's been this playoffs. He was on his heels. Look at the look at the wide shot. It's wide open. Why does he go to the basket? You know he's at least going to get a foul call in two free throws. Most likely he's going to get an N one. I think he's thinking. No, I think he was just in the flow of the game. He was on, like you said, a fast break three. And oftentimes, that's a momentum shot. He was going for the dagger. He thought that he played every minute. TJ, you pointed out. He played every minute, but two in the last two games. You know what Adam, I think the thing is you're at higher? I said this on the big show. Yeah, I think what it came down to is maybe that guy knew. He had nothing left to give, and he wanted to end it. And his new and also you're at home. You hit that three at home, that place goes insane. You know, granted, if he does it that three to Celtics probably have. 16, 15 seconds left. But now you've got to build in rocking. And now that little burst of adrenaline is going to come for those guys who are super tired. So you really don't know. I think it was in? Honestly, I didn't. Now, you see him pull up and you're like, he's making this. For whatever reason I didn't. Okay, I don't know if you Adam we've talked about this, but Chris and I talk about this a lot. From watching so much basketball on TV and the angle they present you with, at least I am and I know Chris said he is, I'm pretty good at watching the shot and figuring out if it's going in or not. Especially once it hits its arc. When it was in the air, you could tell it was going left, but when he pulled up he pulled the my honestly, I was like, this is how we lose. We blew a 13 point lead with three minutes ago. That would have been worse than the dagger three. It would have been worse than the trailblazers, epic defeat against the Lakers in 2000. It would offer sure, yeah. Because the blazes were down 15 at the start of that quarter of that fourth quarter against the Lakers. The Celtics were up 13 with two minutes left or whatever. It would have been the worst choke in Conference Finals. Disagree is just 'cause the heat are the number one seed, right? So it's never really an upset if they beat, it wouldn't have been an upset for them to beat anyone. Even being down that much, I kind of think, I just think their position would have kind of made it less of the worst collapse I don't know, epic choke job that would have been bad though. It would have been so bad. And it's just Miami, their fans are so annoying. I think like I said on the show, half their fans they were gone. They would have never saw it. It would have never stopped. They're getting ready to go to live. Live on Sunday. Little Memorial Day weekend party. Thank God butler missed that. Thank God. But that was tough. You know, shut out. You know, because we've had this conversation, and I remember two podcasts ago, we're like, why is Jimmy Butler not mentioned in the top players in NBA? And then we said, well, after I think he had 47 that one game in the playoffs were like, he will be. And then he kind of had two games where it was just like, okay, maybe this is the reason why he's not listed amongst the greats, but game 6 and game 7. I don't know if he's a top ten player in the NBA. He's 1000% in the top 15 player. Did he make all NBA this year? I don't think so. I don't believe. I don't think he was a for sure. I think he was, I don't think he was even 13. But I mean, it's pretty much everything you can ask. Came down to the wire, like a memorable shot. And I were weird series too. You know, the games were just kind of blowouts and a lot of road teams won. Yeah, a lot of road teams won. Miami hadn't lost a home game in the first two rounds, and then they went one in three at home against Boston. I think that the Tyler hero injury really cost the heat. I think the heat probably would have won the series of heroes at full strength. That guy was so important in terms of getting buckets off the bench. He could hit a bunch of threes in a row, get them going. So they didn't really have that spark. I still don't really understand why the heat didn't play Duncan Robinson as much as they could have. But he was essentially a benchwarmer the whole series and as much as Vincent they liked him obviously. I just think that some big shots. But even in game 7, I just think Duncan Robinson could have could have provided more of a spark so I don't understand that. I don't go against what's supposed to it does though. I trust him as a coach. He's one of the best coaches ever. So for whatever reason, he didn't think Robinson was the guy, but I kind of wondered why that was a situation that was happening there. You know, in a title runs too, you know, you have to get you have to get kind of lucky and you got to get some breaks and Boston got really fortunate that Chris Middleton was injured, didn't play at all in that series, you know, got kind of fortunate that even though they lost the game, were butler missed the second half, but were clearly wasn't the same in game 5 in Boston. And then, you know, tower here goes out. So sometimes you got to get kind of lucky there, but looking at this final smash up, Golden State, versus Boston. This is going to be really fun. I mean, Golden State seems like they're playing kind of back at their peak TJ. You had said it years ago, man. Everyone get theirs in the two years because once it's his team is back, they're going to be really tough and it seems like we're at that point now. Yeah, you know what they are. I remember watching the spurs. And this brings up a whole thing about, you know, I was looking at Amari stoudemire today and he was talking about dynasties and what constitutes a dynasty in his opinion than what doesn't. And that's something I think we can have a talk about at a later time. But, you know, watching the spurs in their dynasty for those 5 titles, it was like I watched the spurs, right guys, and I would be, I'd see them make plays in the way they ran their offense in the way, back door cuts, Chris passes, hitting the open man, the extra pass..

"To wrap this up because I want to give you a little bit of time to talk about your New York Knicks who Trey young loves to absolutely demolish in their own house and talk trash about. But at the beginning of the season, with the next, you had the whole Bing bong thing. People were excited. And that was about a second and a half. And one game. One one over time win. I mean, it really is hilarious. Yeah. So how do you feel about the prospects of your franchise? RJ Barrett has looked good this year. RJ. My thing with the Knicks is the fish rots from the head, right? You still got James Dolan. And I just will never believe the next can be good with James Dolan. Sure, and I mean, I think that's true. But it's like, you know, let's also not get crazy. It's like all the other owners are like, you know, what are they finance guys or Republican donors? You know what I mean? It's like Dolan is definitely a and look, me and Sam, I wish Sam was here 'cause the lunacy that would be coming out of his mouth right now with this question would be crazy. But we worked for MSG. We had Sam had a show that I was a writer on. And the culture permeates through every part of that business. I'll put it that way. Where it's like, it's just kind of tough to get anything done and it's a little dysfunctional and, you know, I think on some level you are right that the fish rots from the head, but I do think I do think to give him a little ounce of credit, he has shown the willingness to, since Phil Jackson, let a guy, I think he learned from how badly the mellow thing happened where he overruled the, you know, I'm so bad with names, but he's the huh? I'm also a huge bet. Yeah, he looks like droopy dog. He's old as hell. He was the one that did the, he was the one that did the mellow trade because Dolan forced him basically instead of waiting for him..

"Will lose unless they get the bucks, in which case it will be a sweep. Of this group of this group, the raptors nets hornets and hawks, who do you like? Obviously. Obviously the nets, but honestly, I mean, it's kind of a cop out because they're the 7 and 8 seed, but I just don't like the hawks have just been so bad. The hawks really pulled the rug out from under us, I think, where it's like they really felt like they were the classic, the young team that made a leap that watch out from next year that just doesn't happen. You know, and I think that goes back to this is, again, New York little bias here, but it's like, this is some Trae Young slander that's about to happen where I just feel like it's not his ability, right? Clearly he's out of, he's out of control, right? Like he is so good, he's, you know, he's Steph like with everything except moving without the ball, which obviously is one of the huge things that makes Steph Steph. Don't get me wrong. But a great and insane passer for a size and insane shooter, all that stuff. But obviously the defense is a problem, but also I just feel like guys don't like him. Like I feel like there's every year it doesn't like them. But dude, even on his own team, it's like every year there's like, oh, there's rumblings of discontent in the hawks locker room. And it's like, you know, they sign John Collins to that big extension, and you're like, oh, they probably figured it out. But he had problems with the last coach and it's like, okay, maybe he wasn't, he wasn't like, you know, he's not supposed to, right? But at the same time, it's like this, I thought they were gonna bounce back. I thought they found something with their coach, used to coach the pacers. Yes, McMillan, I thought they had figured it out with McMillan and there was like, oh, wow, this is a team, but I don't know, man, I think maybe they had like a really well timed dead cat bounce from how much they didn't trade did not like Lloyd. Lloyd PS, exactly. I thought they had like, I thought they just kind of bounced back because but maybe it's just that Trey really didn't like him that much that he kind of like was a good teammate for three months and things broke the right way and they got to the Eastern Conference Finals, but I think all that chatter earlier on where they're already trades already talking about how the regular season's boring it's like, well bro it's clearly not boring enough for you because it's like you're barely getting out of you're not getting into the playoffs. I don't see them being able to beat the raptors and I think the hornets in a similar way, I think they're just, I don't think it's the same thing. I just think they're kind of young and in their development they haven't really put it together and they have a problem at the center position.

"I want to run through a couple more of these Eastern Conference teams. So the next two teams before that play in line are the bulls in the Cavs who both started off hot. The cabs I think they're kind of playing with house money because nobody expected them to be good at all mobley has been a killer. They're playing a really weird style stop where they have like, they've got Lori markin and Jared Allen got hurt, but before he went down, he was playing really great. And mobley and also Kevin Love, so they're running like four bigs out there with various Garland and they've been good, but they're falling off a little bit and then the bulls obviously Lonzo got hurt and injuries have felled them a little bit, but both of those teams, I think, playing better than we might have expected before the season. Yeah, for sure. And I mean, I think again, the Cavs I think you're absolutely right where it's like, it is house money. And it shouldn't work in any way, and they've lost. I mean, yeah, we don't even talk about Sexton. We don't even talk about Rubio. I mean, they keep losing. Nobody else was doing great. Huge Rubio was so important for them. And then I mean, when Jared with Jared Allen, it's like Jared Allen and mobley. I think is the reason that you can basically play either Lowry or Kevin Love is like, you know, a weird, a weird three, you know what I mean? Like, just stand in the corner, rebound, because those guys are such incredible defenders that you could just mix and match them. With a more deficient defender at the four spot or even if at the three spot, they can really cover up a lot of mistakes, you know, both of them are insanely good defensive centers. And so losing mobile's been tough, but again, I think it is house money and I think like, what did Cleveland really think was going to happen?.

"And B two will be difficult for them to deal with, but I wish I had more, I wish I had more tangible reasons why the Celtics were going to lose other than pure hater, the pure hater in me. But I think the hate is powerful enough that I can will them to lose from the chicken personally. You had mentioned how this run has gotten the entire town so jazzed up to believe in the Celtics and Celtics fans are coming out of the woodwork previously they had gone off to whatever rocks that they hide under when they weren't playing well. And now all of a sudden they come slithering out to pump up their chest and these Dunkin dorks are everywhere and I sent you a picture you and I were talking about this and laughing about it. And I encourage people to go and check this out on SI's Twitter feed at SI now. But some guy somewhere, I think it was probably an rhymes again with Mike pina. Got a Jack too. And it says Boston Celtics 2020 to world champions. And he's already got it. And I just can't tell you how much I hate this. Yeah, I hate it. First of all, I love it because either not going to win the championship. I am on record. They might make a run. It might be annoying. They might, you know, feel like they're poised, whatever, but look, that's been the Celtics the whole time. That they've always felt like they're on the cusp. And again, I think they've deserved the karma of those, you know, they got the picks, whatever they bamboozled the nets, but I think they deserve the karma for how they've treated, especially Isaiah Thomas, but just like how angel just kind of like treated players as like disposable. And they're so close and they almost, they never make it, which I think is worse than just being bad, you know, on some level. But this is good because this guy has attached and it's a disgusting tattoo. It's not a that's the best part. It's not a good tattoo. Listen, whatever you want to say about them, they're cool little Celtic guy who spins the basketball. That's a pretty, that's a nice mascot. That's good graphic design. This guy got just a block of black ink in horrible writing. It doesn't even look like official Celtics font. It looks like a bootleg T-shirt you would buy in the stadium next to the outside of the stadium. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. It looks horrible. You know, I can't wait to see what kind of dropkick Murphy's tattoo he covers it up with in 6 months when they lose to either the nets or the I'm hoping it's the bucks. I would love to vanquish the Celtics. Personally. But I think it's good because this is, you know, it will just, this guy will feel even stupider when the Celtics do lose. I love that. That's something that we can all hope for is for Boston to feel even stupider..

"A fair point, but what if the real season starts and you're playing the net? You want to be tuned up a little bit if you're going to play those guys and you know if you're the second seat and they get the 7 seed or if they weirdly get the 8 seat or something. You know, who knows? I mean, I wouldn't put anything past that team. That's fair, but I also just think like because the nets are looming. This isn't the past where it's like, you know, you get to play the pistons if you're the one seat or you know what I mean? It's like this is like the nets are really looming out there. If it was just even Toronto, I think would be kind of annoying to play. Toronto's always annoying. But yeah, I mean, I can't believe how good they are this year. I mean, that's another nurse is right up there with spo. But yeah, dude, I don't know. I mean, I just think, especially because this team just came together. I think you're right that they've kind of found themselves in almost by accident. A game and a half behind. But especially when it's like, I hate to be this guy, but it's like, Doc, I don't trust Doc in the playoffs. That's not too fulfilling. You'd fit right in. Nobody in belly stock. And I love Hardin because of how hilarious he is. Because I really love someone who squanders their natural ability to go to a strip club. That's my kind of guy. I know all about it. You know, you can check my grades in college, my senior year is how precipitously they fell when I was able to when I had a job and had money for certain fun activities. And that's also how I live as a stand up comedian. It's like on the road. Am I going to wake up or am I going to go to bed early? And go over my act and be fresh for the show, or am I going to be hungover until 4 p.m.? I'm from the hardened camp of working, where it's like max out your natural ability, have a good ass time, you know? And I respect him for that. And I would love to see him win because I would love to see because everything now has gone to like LeBron spends $2 million on his body. Steph Curry sleeps in a hyperbaric time chamber to get, they're getting Kobe was getting his own blood spun in Germany to get his money. It's like, we're doing all this crazy things where it's like, I would love it if a guy with a little pot belly because he's had magic city wings for lunch. The day before a playoff series, if he somehow escaped buffet. If someone, if someone drops 40 with some strip club Mac and cheese sloshing around in their guts, that's my guy. "If a guy's older and he can, you think he can beat you up, it's scarier, because there's some kind of like weird intangible dad strength, fear that he strikes into your heart. Whereas like with Jimmy, it's like, you know, look, he's a tough guy, I guess, but he also has done a lot of like, you know, Carl Anthony towns. Andrew Wiggins. The guys he's put in their places are not at the time in their careers specifically. I mean, cat seems to be hitting another level, but he kind of found he found guys that were a little mentally easy to make fold. And it's like, I don't think that's the case with either haslam or obviously spoelstra. I mean, he had supposed to back that he had spoken back when LeBron wanted to get him fired. You think they're gonna fucking, oh I'm sorry, you think they're gonna sigh? You think the heat are gonna side with Jimmy Butler over the coach that they said LeBron told LeBron to kick rocks over? No chance. That's another cool thing about the heat. It is a, it is a system I will say. Well, he culture does not look equal to this challenge, at least not right now because they have lost two games in a row. So before this intramural warfare that they had in full display in front of everybody, they also lost to the Philadelphia 76ers this week and I bring this up stock because before that game, I wasn't going to name names, so let's just say that the name rhymes with Rohan nod Carney. Totally rhymes with. Not actually his name. But he texted me, right? And he's a heat fan. And he's on this podcast regularly. Yes, yes. I'm filling in for him. And he was gloating. And he said to me that embiid and harden were sitting out because they were ducking the heat and what happens, the sixers with like tyrese tyrese maxi and a bunch of dudes from the south Philly why. Roll over the heat and win that game and it was so satisfying stuff. To see the heat on one hand, just to see the heat kind of implode this week a little bit, even though they've already clenched the playoff spot, makes really good about it. But can we talk about Rohan component? Of course. You've got it on Rohan, but what's annoying about the heat is I believe they've clinched it because they're a division winner and their division sucks. That's the other thing. That's a little something we need to talk about with the heat where it's like, that's a little, that's a bit of the reason why they, you know, they get to play the magic more than other Eastern Conference teams. Like, you know, it's just like the South Asian division is just like the hawks have been way worse than you thought they were going to be this year. So there's a little bit there, but that's got to be delicious for you. That's got to be delicious to get it on Rohan, but I will say as a Giannis backer, that was the best of both worlds for me. Because yes, here's the thing. Philly, they've done a couple of cowardice cowardice things here where they don't seem to want to play Brooklyn, right? They're sitting, and look, it's one thing to rest embiid. It's like, but harden, it's like, I don't know, hard and I feel like she'd be playing his way into shape a little bit..

"Most of them are Philly and New Yorkers, so they root for the sixers or the next. But everybody roots for Yanis. He's so much fun. All right, so you mentioned the heat. We're going to start at the top of the Eastern Conference. As we record this, the heat are nominally in first place that the only team in the Eastern Conference to clinch a playoff spot so far, but stav. I don't know if you saw what happened. I'm licking my chops. Against the Golden State Warriors, not only did the heat lose at home, but they imploded. They imploded in full public view of everybody. There is a huddle and udonis haslam gets after it with Jimmy Butler Jimmy Butler, I guess, was acting up a little bit. It puts him in his place. And the weird thing here, I want to run this past year because so Jimmy was fighting a two front war, which we all know you can't do. Military strategy tells you that I guess. But so he hits on an argument. Simultaneously with both Udonis Haslem and his coach Eric spoelstra. And so two things happen, I want to ask you which one you thought was better. Did you like Udonis Haslem telling him I'll beat your ass, I'll be your ass, or Eric spoelstra asking what you want me to bleeping fight you? Yeah. I did like it because again, I like the idea that the heat are falling apart here. I like it because back to Giannis, they seem like the most spiritually together team and we can get, we can get into that. But I love that. I mean, look, you've done this haslam. It's like, that's what the guy is there for. To me, it was like, he's on call to deal with this exact thing. That's the only thing he gets paid for is to throw his body in front of the coaching staff. He's basically the coach that will fist fight a player if he gets a little if he gets a little bit healthy, right? So to me, that was just, that was you Donna's going through the motions if anything. It didn't even feel particularly inspired to me. But. Literally like his energy, I mean, he was like, what, do you want to fight? But he wasn't backing down. And that was, again, I mean, I think he's the best coach in the league, and he is. And that's part of it too, where it's like, it's not just that he is an incredible, you know, I mean, just to get this team to be number one in the east right now, although I think it's going to fall apart. Fingers crossed here. This is the closest it's been in a while..

"Chris and Rohan who were unavailable, although I suspect they were ducking me or at least Mike and Rohan Moore, which we will get into, but in the interim. Very excited to be joined by a special guest he's one half of the hilarious basketball show. Pod don't lie. Stavros hockey es here. Stav. Hey, how we doing, John, dude. I'm thrilled. I'm thrilled to be back, you know, sports. This is my second time on Sports Illustrated. You guys are losing credibility by the moment. The fact that I'm back. Yeah, exactly. You had to get a big, I'm so thankful that whoever the host are ducking you, whatever they were supposed to have, it's probably ducking them. And here we are. We're the replacements basically. Right now. Next man up will come off the bench. I suspect stav, to be honest with you. Yeah. That they were setting us up for some sort of chaos because you're in New Yorker, you're a Knicks fan. I'm from Philly, I'm the sixers fan. I think that they expect us to war. But do they know that we have already bonded over many different things, including our shared hatred of the Celtics? That's the nice thing anyone on the mid Atlantic northeastern corridor. Because that's the other thing with me and Sam. So I am a Knicks fan because I grew up in Baltimore and I would never adopt a D.C. team. So the wizards, even though I was a teen when Jordan was playing there and I was watching those games every every night. I never could I could never adopt a wizards. And so when I moved to New York and I basically want to be here my whole life. I was like, all right, I'm adopting the Knicks, you know? Because I need a team. But we don't, that doesn't translate to other fandom where it's like, you know, like ravens, I'm a ravens fan, I'm an Orioles fan. So me and Sam, whatever comes to baseball or football, we're at each other's throats, the one thing that always bonds us is our shared Boston area hatred, whether it's Red Sox, the Patriots, and especially, you know, I love rooting against the Celtics. It's tough..

"12th of the grizzlies, or out of Kansas, abaji, 13th Atlanta, and then walker Kessler the big guy there from auburn transfer to UNC going 14 of the hornets. It's way early here. How confident do you feel about that group still being in that lottery flirting with lottery area? I'm not the biggest Johnny Davis fan. Wow. He's cool. He's a cool prospect, but I prefer all the other guys that you mentioned so hand Eason abaji. Those guys are just tough play hard, multi positional defenders. I think this year's draft class is filled with guys like that. Who can just contribute to winning and play their role and play out at a high level with Davis? I mean, there's a lot to like there too. Don't get me wrong. He also brings down a defensively too. What is it? I'm sorry, I mean, just give me more on why you're not as big on him. It's just the perimeter jump shot. With guards who haven't proven they can shoot with any consistency, I have some concerns there. With what he could turn into as a shooter. But maybe over the course of time it gets better. Like other guys do, it's not like he's a piss poor free throw shooter. He shoots in the high 70s. So there's a chance he turns into something he brings it as a rebounder. He brings it on the boards. He brings it on defense. He's the type of guy who even post up, you know, he could be used to different positions on offense. So there's a lot to like. But I think there's less certainty with what you want them to be, whereas with sohan with Eason with aji. There's a lot of confidence with who they are. And with walker Kessler, the other guy you mentioned, I have no confidence. He played the worst game of his life for auburn. And that last game was, I don't think he played a single good possession. But he was great all season. So how much do we factor in that he played like this abhorrent, ugly game, and his potential last college appearance versus, hey, he was actually really good all year and an important room protector for this team that people were scared to drive to the rim to face him because he's so long, so big and so skilled around the rim. So I don't know, it's tough to balance that out. But also walker Kessler just from a, he just kind of bores me compared to some of these other prospects, but we're talking about whether I'm in or out on them. Yeah, it looks like all the gigli guys took a bit of a hit, at least on this mock. Is there one gigli guy you like? Like significantly more than others. I mean, is it Daniels? I love Jaden hardy. I still love Jaden hardy despite some of his struggles because I think he got better. He got better over the course of the G league season. His scoring efficiency improved, his feel improved, decision making improved, even as the defense got a little bit better. Hardy, hardy, I think he's with Chris Haines this week. He called himself the best prospect in the draft, and you liked that confidence, but also if I'm drafting hardy in the lottery where I have him ranked, I have a 25 on the mock draft to the grizzlies. If you're drafting him high, I'd want to find out, does this guy have the understanding that you're not going to get utilized like the number one guy in the draft? And that your role was going to be more insignificant early in your career and you're going to have to be patient and grow. But the personality aspects is where a lot of those guys, their fate is going to be determined. Yeah, look, I get it being confident. It's not white, I told Chad for that he should have gone number one. I was like, okay. He.

"I guess on the mock part of this is kind of some fit a little bit. The blazers at 7, you have dame, you have Simon's, maybe you're not drafting bathroom. The pacers at 6, you have brogden there. You just traded for Halliburton. I could see the argument for golf or a guard there. TJ Warren. You guys TJ Warren, blocking Keegan Murray's minutes. So I mean, they have a lot of guys on that team. Where it's maybe not about need, it's just about BPA. I don't know. Now that I bring up BPA, I'm curious, what are you talking to teams Ryan? What kind of feedback do you get in terms of the taking the best player available versus factoring in need? Well, I've always said that the NFL, like you can tell by the way up, right? So I guess you would be out of the way. I just want to double check that. I think you make mistakes big time when you drive for a need in basketball. NFL, they do it all the time. I mean, the need driven picks, even in the first round. It's incredible. How often it's a need driven. Basketball, I think that's where you make big mistakes. I mean, unless it's like Chris Paul and gear three. Derek rose were available. Then maybe you go, okay. We actually can't do this. I think there are rare extremes. There's no absolutes. But if I'm looking at if I'm looking at like, I don't know, I would just go back to your mock here. If I'm the pacers and I'm thinking like, all right, Keegan Murray's 22 and math runs two years younger than him, I guess. We can get on the months here. I just think you make a huge mistake when you go need for basketball, because it's kind of like back to the chat thing. It's other teams that'll make mistakes where they go, well, we knew we were going to be taking on way more risk because it's about trying to get somebody that breaks through and can carry your basketball team. So maybe we'll take a flyer on a guy that's way lower floor because we think it's a chance of being more impactful than going, oh cool, we drafted somebody who's going to be a rotation guy, you know, maybe 5 through 9 on a roster at some point and you guys are going to pay playing the league, you know, 6, 8 years and get paid and the second contract all this kind of stuff. But I mean, does that really make us better? Do we really put ourselves in a position to improve ourselves? And so I don't know, I'm not a big need guy unless it's really, really extreme. We're two guys are completely in each other's way. I think the way the way it was framed to me a couple of years ago that made sense is neat and drafting for a need might be about breaking a tie breaker. If there's a handful of prospects where it's so close between them, you're factoring in need to say, oh, well, what's our philosophy? What are our potential opportunities in the near future with transactions? What is our coach want? What's that system look like? In terms of need, I think, I think all of that does kind of loop into how you end up ranking these players and who you consider the actual best player with who you are and what your team is and what you already have. But ultimately, I don't think you're going to draft a player who is clearly a worse prospect talent wise than someone who is clearly a better prospect, talent wise, and less it's so close. That's when you factor a need versus like you said with the NFL. Teams do do that based specifically off of me. That doesn't happen much in the NBA. But I think need does matter. It does factor into how you end up ranking these guys, which is why it's so tough. It's so tough to rank with a general board. Because for some teams, Chet won't be number one. For others, he will be. He's not a no brainer guy. So to review his Chet one to Houston, jabari two to Detroit, Jade and ivy three to Orlando fours Paolo to OKC, AJ Griffin number 5 to Sacramento, 6 would be Keegan Murray to the pacers, Jalen Durham, 7 out of Memphis to Portland, and then we mentioned Mather in 9 to the Knicks. So I skipped over somebody here who's become the mystery man out of Kentucky, who's also sort of out of Canada. And that shade on sharp. If you watch any of his AAU stuff, you get why, I don't know, I've seen him rank number three going into this class. I've seen him rank number one. Other places have build him on his Wikipedia page. It says that he was number one by ESPN 24/7 and rivals, but then there's other times I've seen him ranked as the number three guy. He never played, didn't play for Kentucky. I watch a Cal pressure the other day, where he was like, if he's going to go in the top three, I'll tell him to go, but they're hinting that he's going to come back to play at Kentucky. He is an incredibly impressive 6 5 perimeter guy with a ton of game, aggressive as hell, there's a lot to really like about him from the AAU part of this. Some teams love him, but we haven't seen him play basketball now for a long time. I have a hard time believing I know what your Intel is that he's not going to end up going in the draft here because we're talking about at least the top ten pick, but what do you have on him? And my impression is he'll go to the draft. We don't know that for certain yet, but my impression is he'll be in the 2022 draft. And with him, I wonder if he's the type of guy who, when teams see him up close with workouts, that's where his stock is going to be really, truly determined because right now all we're going off of is Intel based off what we heard or some people have seen from out of Kentucky. And also from everything that happened before college, playing AU playing in high school and the improvement that we just talked about improvement with bathroom and the guys like Jordan Poole with the shade and sharp, he goes from an unranked prospect to 6 6 go to scoring type who has every move in the book from the perimeter who can defend who's a willing passer. He checks all these boxes of the type of player above the rim. You know he's a great athlete. He can finish with touch he just checks all these boxes of somebody who can be your leading guy of a franchise because of his scoring ability and his ability to do everything else. It's just he's kind of a mystery box. Because we didn't see him compared to all of these other guys and we've seen this story play out before. Jaden hardy goes to the G league. Hardy more of that scoring type as well, who shows sprinkles of some other stuff. He plays in the G league, struggles, some people don't even have him ranked in the lottery anymore when he was a top 5 guy entering this last season. So it could have all fallen apart for sharp had he played at Kentucky. But it also could have really established him as the clear number one, number two, number three guy. Like he was out of high school. All right, how confident are you in this group between sohan ten to Portland, Johnny Davis 11 to the wizards, east and LSU.

"A lot of those bigger decisions were left to Jimmy Butler. And that part, I would side with Jimmy Butler, because as I had heard after the fact, he just kind of felt like I have to be the grown-up here in Philadelphia. These guys can't kind of carry themselves. They've been losing all the time. And now I'm here to save the day, but it's kind of their team and it's built around them. Fuck this, I'm out sign and trade. Miami Heat? And if you looked at just the Philadelphia thing, if you just looked at the Minnesota thing and just looked at the Chicago thing, I think at that point you'd be like, you know what? I think I might agree with Jimmy Butler and a bunch of these different positions that he has. So he gets to Miami he gets his money. He gets his team. And they go on this incredible run and we can diminish it if we want because of the bubble part of it. I don't think the Miami Heat team that got to the finals to say great team. It wasn't. It wasn't a great team. There's a really nice run. And they get to the finals. They don't have the size and they're going to be Anthony Davis LeBron. All right? Butler and I would never tell any player like, hey, you shouldn't think you're this good, but he is flirted with that top ten neighborhood despite never really being that guy. I think he's really good. I just don't think he's ever been that guy. And when you're not that guy and you're always pissed and they're always seems to be a bad breakup, you can be right about a lot of things. But it doesn't mean that you're always right about everything. And I think to this point, butler's always thought he's right about every single deal. I can understand the Chicago part, Minnesota, Philadelphia, been through it. The spell part is going to be challenging for me. Now, spo handle it like a magician after the fact. We were arguing about where we're going to go to dinner. I watched this postgame presser, spoke gets that he's been around forever. He's one of the best coaches. If you're talking about the best coaches in the NBA, the conversation includes Eric spoelstra. I can't say definitively. One is better than everybody else. I'd have to have somebody smarter at basketball than me to explain specifically by this one guy's head and shoulders about everyone else, but the conversation, if it's two, three, 5 guys, it can't happen without their ex bolster. Eric spoelstra is not Andrew Wiggins, not knowing who he is. Andrew Wiggins brother tweeting out hallelujah when butler demanded a trade in Minnesota butler being like, are you fucking serious, dude? Are you serious? You're fucking with me. Again, I think I take butler's side in that one. Eric bolster has not been Simmons in a playoff spot being like, I'm not super comfortable with creating place here, okay? Eric bolster is not Derrick Rose trying to reclaim his team in city when he's not the same player. Eric bolsters a guy that's one championships has been a steady force for a franchise that's reinvented itself a bunch of different times. So on this one, even though it may not mean a ton, it's a hard one to then say this pattern behavior is the same. There's a great Kobe Bryant quote Phil Jackson had in one of his books. I've mentioned it before, but it's incredible. Kobe was always pissed in his teammates all the time. He's pissed at him all the time. Because Kobe's level of effort his investment in the game was beyond all of his teammates, and Phil said to him, he goes, whatever your ten is, that's unobtainable for all these other guys. Like, their ten is your 6 or 7, but they don't know that there's another like it's incomprehensible to them. That there's this next level. It's never going to happen. So the sooner you accept that, the happier that you're going to be. And it's a very smart quote. It's enlightening to make sense. It's like stop asking somebody to reach this level that they are incapable of. And that's why this makes you so special. The problem is Jimmy Butler's not Kobe Bryant. The problem is that he's carrying himself this way, and he's demanding this from his teammates, and he's always pissed even if he's right to be pissed. You can't be pissed off at the world all the time, even if you're right. And the fucked up part about this is the heat, as I said at the very top, the number one seed, if they're playing a full strength Brooklyn in a one 8 matchup, who are you taking? So if they lose that, it's not going to be because of this. But if butler starts as exit again, or if this all starts to happen again, it has been the story for him every single chapter of his NBA career. Kevin O'Connor has a mock draft that is out today. Check it out on the ringer dot com. Okay, you went according to the standings here as well. So you have homegrown going number one overall. To Houston, how much of this is Chet, how much of it is Houston? It's a little bit of both. I mean, with chat, he's clearly a top three prospect, and also for Houston though, fit wise, adding a rim protecting presence like homegrown who can play make a little bit, space the floor, makes him a perfect fit with Jalen Greene. Their young star who's been absolutely terrific since early February. And then with alperin Shen goon, he's played quite a bit with Christian wood, who doesn't bring it defensively in terms of his intensity and effort all the time..

"In his third year, he finally were like, wait, okay, there's something here, 13 points per game. There's an argument to be made that he should have been played earlier. This is not a guy that was 18 coming in. He was 22. I've also said numerous times. I think the NBA evaluation thing is a little bit different in that we've had more developmental stars where players who look like complete projects have no idea turn into some of the game's best players and that's usually not the way that this happens, which adds another wrinkle to it. So as butler's coming into his own in that third season, Derrick Rose comes back during butler's force season. Rose to this point had played 39 games and 11 and 12. He missed all of 1213, played ten games in 1314, so butler's fourth year is the first season in about three years where rose is actually giving you some decent numbers. And if you watch those bulls games, you could see that rose is like, look, it's my city, it's my team. Sorry I've missed almost three years, but I'd like my team back and butler's like, yeah, I'm actually good now and butler after those first three years in his fourth 5th and 6th season made three storied all star teams of the bulls. And now it's kind of my team. And by the way, butler was right. He was better than Derrick Rose at that point. If you watch that team play on offense, it was awful because they would just basically go back and forth taking turns or whose team it was. You couldn't plug basketball that way. And at that point I'd sided with butler. I also had information that I shared in an ESPN years ago and that one of the other reasons butler was always so mad. And again, I would say he came into the league mad and then had more reasons to be mad and justifiably so is that Chicago when they were making them contract offers. They were kind of fucking with them a little bit, being like, look, if you don't take this, you're still not, it's still not really your team or not quite sure what your numbers are going to be. Almost implying that he may not get all the minutes that he needs to to get the numbers for a contract that he thought he was deserving of. I believe that's true. I double checked it. I had somebody who ran into Jimmy Butler later on saying, hey did you hear what that ESPN guy said about the contract thing? Butler said, yeah, he's absolutely right. I'm sure no one from Chicago would agree. As far as front office side of it, none of those guys are there anymore, it doesn't matter, but it made sense. And I got it from somebody who was very reliable, double checked it. So when I was hearing all that stuff, I'm like, look, the basketball part of it tells me that butler's right. And the history tells me that both was right to be upset. So rose gets traded after 1516, butler's got the bulls do himself in 1617. And then that starts going off the rails because butler, remember we had the post about how much his teammate sucked, or excuse me, he started complaining about his teammates a ton. He started crushing hoiberg all the time. And he might have been right about hoiberg, but then there was another weird element to it too, where Dwyane Wade agreed with butler than Rajon Rondo of all people posted something on Instagram, essentially saying that the big three, the vets of the Celtics run of his earlier part of his career would have never done this to the younger guys. So then you're like, well, I don't know who to believe here at this whole point. So guess what? Butler gets his way. He's pissed off at the world he gets traded in Minnesota while he's still in her contract. But that's important because he wanted a new contract from Minnesota. So he's with the Timberwolves in 1718. There's all sorts of stuff that you can go look it up. I'm not going to recite all of it here. There's a weird plane incident. There's another thing where his teammates are good enough. He didn't want to play. He missed a bunch of time towards the end of the regular season. There's a game where he didn't want to go back in apparently. I don't remember all of it. I was looking at all up. They lost to the rockets in 5 games in the first round. His numbers are bad, but to be fair, to butler, he had missed a huge chunk at the end of the regular season with this knee thing, so he wasn't entirely healthy either, but then he doesn't do his exit interview. He demands a trade because he's mad about the contract offer. There was another part where apparently butler was mad, the team didn't restructure other things or get rid of other people so that they'd have more money to pay him, which I don't think is going to go over really well in the locker room. And then when butler doesn't get his trade over the course of that off season, he comes back to Minnesota and then we have the infamous practice where butler coordinates it all because the jump happens to be in town where he does the sit down with Rachel Nichols, which I've talked about all the time. And by the way, I was never criticizing the jump about it, good for you. It's a great get. If anybody said, you, hey, Ryan, we're solo NBA star fill in the blank is really pissed off and wants to do an interview with you. You do it every single time. But from butler's side of it, totally coordinated. He plays apparently with the third stringers against Wiggins and towns and just berates them the entire scrimmage apparently wins it, woj as a tweet on it, where he's like, you fucking need me, all right? And he's calling out Wiggins in town, who at that point, I don't think anybody's gonna go back to retroactively and say, Jimmy Butler was wrong about the passion of two younger players that were supremely talented, but hadn't quite figured it out yet. And yes, the Timberwolves needed him. But he didn't get the contract that he wanted. And they were like, okay, this is untenable. And at that point, I think ownership steps in, they trade Jimmy Butler to Philadelphia. Now in Philadelphia, he's got kind of the same problem just a different geographic spot in the country, where he's with Philadelphia, a better team, clearly, and a nice little playoff round there against Toronto. Could have gone the other way, who knows. But butler explained this in the JJ Redick podcast on his exit from Philadelphia, a bunch of different things, where he was mad about his teammates. And their effort, he was mad about the trainers. He was mad about the lack of leadership. He said there was no direction, which by the way, all of us, I think, could have any single job and start finding ways to get pissed about the structure above us because I think that's kind of how we're all built. But butler is now starting to develop a trend where it seems like everywhere you go, you are upset about the level of effort, not beating your level of effort. You can be right about that, but there's also a way of handling it and if you're doing it every single time every single place you go, it can start to become a you problem. And I think that's where it started with butler. Butler makes a really good point about the playoffs where he felt like all of a sudden Brett Brown, which I don't think he had a ton of respect for, which he basically admits, numerous times, either hinting at it, and then I think after the fact being like, it was professional. Well, if you're saying it was professional means you don't really like the guy. Where he was mad that Ben Simmons, big time playoff Ben Simmons, all of a sudden was not the on ball creator that he had been during the regular season..

"Jimmy Butler what's the deal, man? I'm gonna give you the full timeline of Jimmy Butler's career, try to make sense of his fourth stop. Also, Kevin O'Connor has mock draft out. It's up on the ringer. We're gonna go over all the lottery picks. And a special guest from the documentary free solo and some new work that's out there. Mountain climber, Alex honnold, on that documentary that changed his life, the sport, and some other stuff as well. So fired up about that and life advice. Let's talk about your number one seed Miami Heat. Why not, right? Because we saw the turmoil on the bench. We'll run through this. Originally I was going to do kind of an east breakdown because it actually gets pretty interesting when you start looking at some of the east records and how they do against the west. And even though we feel like the east is better and it is better. There's stuff that I'll just use next week. I think I'll do it next week because as I was going through it, I was like, wait, do we really know what's going to happen? By the way, we don't. All right? But the heat of your one seat, and every time you look at the standards you're like, there's still a one seat and it's a team that defends like crazy that I really like that if missed big time chunks of the season from their three best players. And we have to take them seriously, but then I'm like, wait, if I like Miami's defense so much, then why wouldn't I just go ahead and pick Boston? And we can do the Boston thing when we get into the east as well as they just are stomping teams and just put it on Utah like that too. And I still think you toss it team. But really last night in the NBA world and what this open is about today is Jimmy Butler. So in the third quarter Golden State goes in the 19 O run, Miami has a timeout, Brian windhorst said there was a specific close out that butler didn't get to. I mean, shocker weren't march late March and a vet didn't get out on the closeout. And spall and butler get into it. Now you can see whatever happened where butler's back is to us to the video footage that we saw from a fan and apparently the Miami Heat broadcast ignored all of this shocker. So as we see spo and butler going back and forth at one point, whatever butler says, spo, you can read his lips as back to him. He's like, you want me to fucking fight you? Kyle Lowry's like, I'm out. PJ Tucker makes a face where he's kind of like, what just happened? And then he's kind of back to whatever he's doing, but you Donna has been there for two decades. It's not having it. And gets into it with butler's like, I'll beat your ass. I'll beat your ass, all right? In butler didn't seem to want a ton of that. Despite, I think we'd all agree, but there's a tough guy too. But then we get a different angle from above where it just keeps going. And this is the part that's a little weird, all right? It's weird in that there seem to be one player that was kind of holding butler back, but it felt like the rest of the team was cool going at butler, and then he slammed his clipboard down and kept going, and then I thought the best part of it was that butler and spoke, even the times where it looked like it was kind of like, do you really want some of this? Which is not usually the best look for your team, but in the moment, as I say, all the time, we're not always the best at trying to figure out what it actually means because it could mean everything it could mean nothing. I don't know what it means at this point. But I thought it was kind of crazy that it kept going and it didn't seem like any of the teammates really cared. It felt like they had schools reside. And then they kind of came to a head at the end where they were very close to each other and they were animated and kind of talking out the whole point. All right? So did the heat culture die last night. Not if you ask heat cultures because this is only going to make them stronger, right? Tracks in the foundation, probably not. Like I said, I think a lot of this stuff happens. But last night was aggressive. So it comes down to two camps. If you're a heat fan, awesome. This is great. This is exactly how we're built different. If you want the heat to lose and you think they're overrated, then you think this is part of the app. And we don't have that answer right now. But really this becomes a Jimmy Butler story and the Jimmy Butler timeline. So let's revisit because it is a long one, and it is to be nice. I edited this to try to like, hey, I'm not going to bring up every single time Jimmy Butler got mad at somebody because you know what? As I was digging through it this morning, it's a very long list. But Jimmy Butler should be appreciated. Yes, I did like him coming out of the draft. He scored 2.6 points per game in 42 games, his rookie year. He played 8 minutes per game. All right, as a 22 year old rookie, Jimmy Butler's playing 8 minutes a game. His second year he starts 2082 games scores 8 and a half months per game..

Avid will they need still have milwaukee in the east and there are those those are what they're what like an hour eight. Yeah they are but but again you still having grown up in. Because i know you're a west coast guy glennon and believe me. I love living on the west coast. It's much easier. But having your when the bulls would go to The west coast and start at nine thirty. I just like as a kid. I couldn't watch it by Maybe i could watch the first half when i was in adolescent My mom's bedtime was always looming for me up and then particularly in the playoffs is just have it. Be like those games have to start to have a doubleheader. They have to start really know at like eight thirty central to earliest so that that becomes kind of difficult to at and if it's on the west coast it's gonna be seven thirty a. For a road game. So yeah i. I think that's where trouble with all with all the activity about the plan tournament that they wanted to get sign in the playoffs. Don't you think the nba would wanna have that. "Fight that is Jimmy Butler with TNT crew Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal and Channing Frye in for Kenny Smith. Tonight, they mentioned June Jimmy Butler mentioned guys going down. They played tonight's game without Tyler hero. He was pulled from the lineup and scratch right before the game for health and safety protocols, But they open up seven game road trip with 11 94 victory over the Houston Rockets. Postgame, actually, the two men who had the call tonight with Jon Barry once again, Mark It's too sure Kevin. Thank you very much. J. Bay didn't look good for the Miami Heat in the first quarter. Scoring 19 points didn't look good. In the first half. They were the way they were shooting the three ball four of 22, but they caught fire and ended up with a big road win in Houston to open up this long road trip. Yeah, You know, they usually hang around because they do play good defense. And after a shaky first quarter defense where they gave up to 29, they play pretty well. The second half After used to started 9 to 25 from the three point line. Houston went six for 25. In that second half. Miami still has some holes. Obviously, some players not here, Tyler hero we find out right before the ballgame can't go, no core and drug. It's no Avery Bradley. So they're playmaking and their turnovers are gonna be a problem on they were tonight 21 turnovers for this team and a lot of times when you struggle is badly as they did shooting the ball early and you turn it over. You get yourself out of a ballgame, but they found a way to stick around the claw. They fought on. They turned it around that second half a day look awfully good, because of course, we knew Max truce was going to go for 21. Career high 21 career high tying 53 pointers off the bench, but Jimmy Butler look this team got into a hole to start the season when he was missing game after game with covert protocols. But in the seven games since he's come back, he's been averaging nearly a triple double. In fact, he had 27 10 rebounds 10 assists tonight to spearhead this comeback. Yeah, He was terrific. And you know he's going to give tremendous effort and you know, throughout the broadcast. We're talking about him being a throwback player because he's a mid range guy. He's going to take it to the rim. He's tough. Is going to tell people what he thinks He's going to get on teammates for not doing the right thing on. He was a terrific tonight and I'd like to say also the Bam out of bio Despite the fact he went three for 80 only had 10 points, Yes, 13 boards and eight assists, so he had a major impact on this game. And it's not all about having to score the basketball to be a major factor in Bamako Bio. Despite The shooting was was terrific as well. The Miami Heat now 11 and 14 and this rough road trip heads to Salt Lake City Saturday against the NBA leading Utah Jazz. But tonight in Houston, the Miami Heat rally and defeat the Rockets one on 1 to 94 for Jon Barry. I Marquess to share right here on your home for the MBA, ESPN radio. And the ESPN app. Now let's send it back to Kevin winner in the studio, D. J. B. Thank you very much. And if you want to hear more of the Houston Rockets, the fact that they have now dropped and ate and ate ever since they traded away, James Harden tonight on SportsCenter. James Harden with Rachel Nichols situation that I was with Houston consistently every single night having to get 40 points to give ourselves a chance to win. We're a long stint of years is draining and so just to be. It would have a skill set of guys that you could be a playmaker, and you can get guys involved and not have unnecessarily worried about scoring each possession. It's a little bit relieving for me and a little bit of an eye opener from James Harden right there. I get him or with Rachel Nichols tonight on SportsCenter. The conversation you could catch it on the jump tomorrow and also you'll hear more of the conversation when we all get together. Next. It'll be on Saturday night for coverage of the Brooklyn Nets and the Golden State Warriors. Coverage starts at 8 P.m. Eastern time. You can also catch the game on ABC television..
