I don't know how else how these are City Council. It's they're not out in public. They hide the Internet has so the Internet has made people feel protected. You know. Typically, when you say stuff that offends people, you kind of get you kind of get a little pushback in the Internet has allowed people to be a little bit more comfortable saying rude mean things. And that's what Jimmy has built his political career on saying no mean rude thinks is very disingenuous on the council talks down to people, even his own supporters. Listen. Don't want Jimmy Flanagan to be threatened like that. I don't want him to feel that. I really don't. But you know, when you when you're calling people racist in today's day and age, calling someone a racist is worse than calling them a murderer. You better back it up. You better be ready to be back it up. It's amazing. Get pissed because because you get fired for that, right? Right that. Yeah, show Jimmy Flanagan, I think feels safer. L on zoom with the pretty backdrop of Ah, sunset or something like that behind him, And that's where we're seeing most of our city government Right now. It's via zoom with pretty backdrops or books to show that they read, Um and it's not acceptable. You get out in public, Jimmy And you might have to face the music here a little bit. You're gonna have to face the public. I want to throw a story out there that I'm still trying to confirm. I now have a couple of text messages and e mails from a variety of people. But I just I'm having a difficult time confirming a story. About a high ranking political leader in this city. Hosted a wedding with 90 people in a downtown Austin hotel. I'm trying to get confirmation of that. Maybe some hospital hotel worker can help us out with this. But this is this would be a big deal. This would really, really fly in the face of some of the things that are being said by our local leaders when it comes to covert 19. I'm not gonna Tony names out there or anything like that. But apparently Ah Hotel was used and was close to 100 people at a wedding. Yeah, it's just one. I just want to throw that out there. Maybe somebody knows a little bit more than we do at 512836059. So we heard from somebody on on Friday with a little tip about this. Are you hearing from someone different now that we heard from okay? Yeah, and I got a couple of e mails over the weekend. From people that did not want me to use their name because they are close to this story, and they just didn't want to reveal their names out of fear of retaliation. Well, if it can be confirmed, corroborated, it would be extraordinarily hypocritical. And I tell you Ah, lot of splaining would have to be done. But course it has We confirmed. Let's go to Bill on the top of Don show. I think he had something to say about this video that's been circulating in cyberspace over the weekend. Jimmy Flanagan thean comments. Who's in district six? It was confronted by a group of folks want to know why he keeps calling them racist. And they kind of got this face. And, Yeah, it was very uncomfortable. Awkward moment, I guess. But Bill, what do you think? Good morning, gentlemen. First on with Adler's response, the only words out of his mouth to that should have been well, you know, comes with the territory of being a politician in the public figure, and I'm sorry I'm all for this. They did not attack because I haven't seen the video. So it could be wrong about some of the things I'm about to say. As far as I know, nobody laid a hand on Jimmy planning and as far as being detained, Yeah, we're gonna have to start doing it because he's politicians. I don't care what started the hour they're on. They're not listening to us or not keeping their promises. So if we have to pin them in a corner And scare the life out of them to get them to find to do the things they say they're going to say, and Jimmy Flanagan's case, stop saying Horrible evil lies about everybody You disagree with that's what it's gonna take. And you know what? I'll be the first to say it right now. The Democrats are starting to the guys annoy idea what we're going to be like when we're upset. So if you want all of us on the right to go back to being the nice, docile good little citizens that we were put Trump back in. All of this will all go away that there will promise will be good people, But you gotta put Trump back in office building. Listen, I mean, the left has been talking about getting up in their face confronting people at restaurants confronting cops being so belligerent And this is this has been a tactic of the left for many years now getting up in their face when you see him out there. Get up. In their faces. What she said. Remember that? Remember that video? Of course. Yeah, I mean, yeah. When they you know, we kicked him. We get tough. They been saying those kind of that rhetoric for for years now and now. Jimmy Flanagan got a taste of his own medicine. Listen, when I first saw it, I didn't like it. I thought it was crossing the line. But then I started thinking Well, wait a minute. This is exactly what our police officers have been going through. You know, with these protesters downtown. When that Saturday when the protests were really, really heavy Dan around the police department and they were blocking traffic. They were being aggressive towards the police. They were spraying confetti all over buildings downtown. We didn't hear a damn word from Jimmy Flanagan or any sense City Council person. Regarding that it pretty much like they stood by and let it happen. Let them destroy property. Let them threaten the police. And then we have someone who confronts Flanagan on was some questions. And all of a sudden it's it's the end of the world. All of a sudden, you know, planning and feels like he's being assaulted. Attacked. What a hypocrite. What a damn hypocrite he is, and you'll be scared of his hands were shaking me, You know, maybe maybe it wasn't the maybe one. The best way to approach Flanagan. "You know, I don't $40,000 rather but here's the deal, According to the Department of Public Safety, Humphrey has been convicted in the past for assault three times. Innovating arrest two times resisting arrest once and burglary of a habitation a few times, So he's gotta think he's got an incredible history with the law enforcement. Burglary of a habitation a few times. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, So there you go. He's unknown corner Now. He was a real threat, man. He was He was a really, really threat. He was a real threat. He he was on the on the way to hurting those people. There's no doubt in my mind. Wait. I guess he's just part of that vicious cycle that we talk about is for us how? You know the middle mentally ill or approached in this this town. They're they're put in jail if they commit crimes, and they're given a couple of pills, and they're knocked out on the street again, And here we go again. You know what? Jimmy Flanagan Mayor Steve Adler, Greg CASS, are they would say this is exactly what they're addressing these issues just like this, taking the money from way from the police Miller into mental health care. Maybe they could have caught this 20 year old 29 year old many many years prior and got him the help that he needed. That's the argument that the City Council is making with the with all this money they took from police. But what's on display here? Clearly, it's one. We need more police. And, yes, you've got to continue to figure out this middle health issue, but Also, this is when we need more police. You need both. Yeah, you gotta have both. You do have to have both. But But there's Humphrey guy years ago. He needed a hospital bad and some something to restrain him. That's what he needed. Not necessarily a jail cell getting locked up for a few nights. Ah, doesn't make you make it safer whenever he gets out of jail. No, not at all. If anything, it'll make it more agitated and probably, you know, worse problems. I'm starting to think. That if this city council would have approached this a little bit different that some people may have supported this decision. Maybe not necessarily to take money from cops. But all of these programs that they're now funding I actually kind of makes some sense. It's something that we in the community have been begging for every time Ah whacker doodle turns on us and hurts people whether it's a school shooting. Whatever incident it is, we always say we need better mental health care in this country. And I'm starting to think that if the City council wasn't so progressive and so heavy handed, that they probably could have package this in a different way, got money in other areas to fund these programs. And leave the police budget alone. And I think they might have gotten more support out of this 6 55 here at K LBJ Todd and don should still amazing to think about the great job that Dr Daniel Slaughter did when he eliminated my snoring. "Street right there, Along with all of the cars and trucks, you and light rail cars running. It includes $2 billion to build a tunnel under downtown. $2 billion for the tunnel. Austin City Council member Jimmy Flanagan tells Kxnt end the tunnel is critical. It's a critical part of all of this. Here is his reasoning on that. If you don't build a downtown tunnel, then you are just putting buses or trains in the same traffic as the cars. Yeah. Same traffic as the cars are using. City Council member, Alison Altar is making the same argument. If we don't do tunnel, then we're going to be taking away mobility on the service, and we're going to be taking a whole segment on our streets that are congested right now. So the argument they're making for a tunnel. Ah, is that it's going to avoid the possibility of the rail lines, creating Mohr congestion downtown. So when those railcars leave the tunnel downtown and start using the regular streets all over the rest of the city, what's gonna happen? Well, they're going to add to the congestion. Austin Yeah, Yes, well, and there's so many questions here one. How long is tunneling Take talk about having less mobility on the streets when they're digging them up to build a tunnel. How long does that take? The tunnel is only expected to be a mile and 1/2 long and two. When you tell me you want to $1,000,000,000 But you can't tell me where exactly, you're going to dig or where this is going.

Texas task force convened after El Paso shooting discusses 'welfare checks,' private gun sales in first meeting

"Republican governor Greg Abbott is raise concerns about private firearms sales but didn't commit to cracking down on them or act on gun control issues as he emerged from a meeting on ways to prevent mass shootings following the el Paso attack that killed twenty two people I won't lawmakers are feeling pressure to respond quickly to the August third shooting at Walmart governor abit so he said that Texas would take a long hard careful look at gun laws of other safety measures before the legislative session in twenty twenty one that's where we begin this morning the commission was formed in the wake of this month's el Paso mass shooting that left twenty two people dead police say the alleged shooter was targeting Mexicans during the panel's first meeting governor Greg Abbott says a variety of ideas were proposed including more quickly identifying threats made online we had members from social media with this provided great insights about how they operate in great advice about strategies that we can pursue the governor says representatives from Twitter Facebook and Google were all in the meeting and agreed with law enforcement to communicate more regularly they they have water call trusted slugger programs they can flag information whenever they see anything online that may look like it could lead to potential endangerment of someone or a potential terroristic threat another popular proposal doing more than just focusing on background checks when it comes to buying weapons we want to do a better job of addressing stolen guns there's something it didn't matter where you are on the second member right spectrum I think everybody agrees that we as a state with a government have a responsibility to crackdown stolen guns according to the governor concerns were raised about why the Allen Texas police department didn't do more when the alleged shooter's mother called with questions about her son's high powered rifle weeks before the shooting the governor points out the sun did pass a background check but there was a concerned mother he raise issues to law enforcement is there some new top a strategy that we can have that would lead to welfare checks when issues like that our rates the conversation just getting started the commission made up of lawmakers and community leaders meets again next week in el Paso I'm Clayton apple now the Austin city council is making a new gun violence task force a top priority but there was some heated discussion during last night's council meeting on this very issue helps members Natasha Arbor medicine and Jimmy Flanagan both feel adding yet another task force to the system was not the answer which earned this review from councilmember Leslie pull I can't believe we're actually arguing over whether to establish a task force on gun safety and gun violence it just strikes me as is our most of council voted for the new task force and when it gets at least six members it'll have it eight months to study the local gun violence problem and report back to

"Prior with Ellen trucks Claire from the Texas public policy foundation and pretty interesting story, making news. You got Greg casare and the ever growing Jimmy Flanagan you seen this guy lately. You know, I'm glad you brought that a lot of water. I think just right in the middle you need. He, he needs a good Kito died, is what he needs. You talk to. I'm just concerned about any just looks like he's sweats a lot call us Jimmy. We'll we'll get you straight. We'll help you man. We'll get you on track. She's only guys are such haters. And Greg 'Gorio. They've been talking about going after the four hundred homes that live along lady bird lake and you know, near the three sixty bridge that have been property tax exempt for the city since eighteen ninety one. Right. They don't get city services like water and things like that. They don't get sewer the city's not maintaining the roads leading up to their houses or anything but Jimmy Flanagan the ever-growing, Jimmy Flanagan and, and growing Gregorio throw at you. Let me. Growing so damn much figured he wants us to talk about is true. It is true. Every time I see a news clip of him. It's like damn what, what happened in the past twenty four hours a summer towed in a swamp. Some kind of is anyway. But we digress back to the story distracting us seller. They want to go after these, these homeowners about four hundred of them or so. How did this all come up? And what do you think of Jimmy plan against listen, big bucks? Listen, you guys about property taxes about property taxes that land used to not exist there? You know there were there didn't used to be home. There wasn't land. It was under water right there wasn't leeann for the city tax so throughout the years, and even as recently as nineteen eighty six there was a specific city council vote to exempt those properties from property taxes, because from city property taxes, because they weren't getting city services, it makes sense, which, you know, sounds reasonable no taxation in some someone who lives nearby found out. Oh my neighbors aren't paying property taxes. I don't wanna pay property taxes. Oh, and she thought that she could just go to the city council and say, hey, is it cool if I don't get an exemption? That's not how the city council where she lives in a house. Where they are getting sewer city sewer services in water. So therefore, that's why she's on the right. Yeah. Not, not, not the best argument here. So now the city council said, I'm sorry, what your neighbors aren't aren't paying property taxes and it really popped up on their radar. And now they realized I mean, this is a list is a, it's a lot of money. It's, you know multimillion dollar homes, right here. So I they, they were you could see the dollar signs in. There is already calculating how much tax and it's a few million dollars and how they were going to spend that. So they are. I don't know if I was one of these people that lived on the lake, I would be pretty mad at that neighbor. Absolutely. I mean if they're not. I mean they're on septic systems they got their own. Well water. Right. They're not getting the services that you would pay for if you're paying property taxes. So I think they have a, fair argument. I mean it's I don't think it should, but I've heard estimates could be about four million dollars a year. Right. And I think that's right. And Greg Shaw chubby Flanagan. They would like to have that kind of money. Oh, yeah. The more money. You realize how much the Little Caesars pizza buffet costs. Are you think that's fine against issue? That's his he's the cards. He harms carbs. Yeah. Hi carbs. The guy needs to back off the carbs. That's all he has to do me Jimmy, and I know you wash right now on YouTube, that type Jeffries,.

"To the people should the people give you a license if you haven't paid the people back on. No, I know today, the Austin city council speak-out against the annexation exemption that was implemented back in eighteen ninety one allowing some multi-million dollar homes, along lake Austin to be exempt from paying property taxes. That's right. You've seen these homes. You've seen pictures. You've heard about them. Well, Jimmy Flanagan and city councilman. Greg casare plan to hold a press conference this morning calling the reversal of that, that exemption. They say it's just an Farren and deprives the city of millions of dollars in extra funds. That they could be spending on homeless and other projects Zia was is that? Yeah, we'll exempt the city taxes, but you don't get city services. So the thing is, is are they going to get city services? They always have have they, yes, the police will show up the fire department will show up EMS Mwale show up. Yes, they always have, and this should be overturned for the first time in my life, I agree with Jimmy Flanagan and Greg Casanova. 'cause if you own a home in this city, you should be paying taxes. I mean, they they when they years ago when they tried to overturn it before they were going to try to overturn it, but still offer. No, no city services. So in this case, if they are getting city services now, yeah, it does make sense if they reaping the benefits. Go ahead cities maintaining the streets in front of those properties. Yeah. The fire department the police department EMS will show up if you call for an emergency, right? That city service right, there drinking city of Austin water that they are, they are buying city of Austin electricity's like Austin is. Major source their voting and city council elections. Those rich guys that own a property on the lake. Yeah. Should pay property taxes? There might have been a time in history where that was justified. I don't see the justification for it now. That's for sure. Yeah. Especially given the fact that some extremely wealthy people are living out there and not having to pay tax haven't for generations. Yeah, they've had a nice little break long time. Yeah. I don't think it makes sense anymore. No, not anymore. You're listening to the best of Todd and Don on NewsRadio KLBJ right now. "Station nearby. This is Fox News. KLBJ news time for oa-to. Good afternoon. I'm Eric like, I'm this leaves a service of blue belli's cream. Austin's? Transportation department is proposing some improvements to slaughter lane and far south Austin. Among the upgrades are widening slaughter between Brody lane, and mo- pack from four to six lanes reports twenty-five signals, we'll get upgrades and as many as four pedestrian hybrid beacons. We'll be put up they'll improve the intersections that escarpment Brody congress, and I thirty five cat metro bus stops will be relocated. They'll improve bike and pedestrian facilities as well. As late new pavement. The projects will be partially funded by Campeau grant of twelve point five million dollars. Rachel mayor say NewsRadio KLBJ, there's only one road in and out of high school. But now Austin city council has approved building a second road councilmember. Jimmy Flanagan says the campus is in twenty two twenty four points area. It's a notorious traffic nightmare, and you have traffic from the school. And frankly, a lot of young drivers which are not not the greatest drivers in the world interacting with some very intense. Rush hour traffic funding is yet to be found for the road. But planning and expects developers will end up paying for it. As part of an upcoming zoning change, it appears the stalemate over property tax relief at the state capital is left a shadow over any sort of budget agreement. "Now, you heard the Austin city council that pretty upset that state lawmakers are trying to control the city council when it comes to raising your taxes or talking about house Bill to if approved would restrict city government to county governments from raising your taxes above two point five percents. If they want to go higher, and they can go higher only if they go to the voters above the two point five percent. So they can raise your taxes without even asking you two point five percent. If house Bill two is approved, but they can go even higher, but they have to go to you first and Austin mayor Steve Adler Jimmy Flanagan on the city council. The just about every member the city council they held a press conference today to speak out against that. They say the city councils across the state are United on this front and they're standing with those. Other city council members that want to dig a little bit deeper into your wallet without asking for permission. We'll get the full story on our Facebook page at Todd done. But let's listen to mayor Adler here. We're proud to be standing here today with my colleagues on the council talking about how spoke to knowing that. We are also standing with mayors and city council members across the state, I have never seen as organic and large. Cool. Listen of bipartisan mayors and city council members from across the state rise the way they are rising up with respect to house built to how. How? The rising up to take more of your money to if it does not change cannot be considered anything else other than a direct attack on cities. And that's what mayors leaders saying across the state. As mayor proteomics said if we keep our existing budget and add nothing new to new programs just maintain our existing budget. It requires a three point eight percent increase. That's that's not those are cost drivers. And if we have a cap that sets us at a level below that then we are by definition, and by basic MAC having to make cuts in our budget by let's think about that. So he says just to stay the status quo. They have to raise taxes by at least three point eight percent just to maintain what we got. Now. What's our current budget four billion? That's just over slightly over four billion. I believe it's in that range Todd. So that amounts to how much money how much is that? That's got to be hundreds of millions of dollars. They have to pump into the system just to maintain. What we got now city councilman Jimmy Flanagan who was also who is also the mayor of cedar park, Texas and people listening in live in cedar park. What I'm talking about? Jimmy Flanagan has incredible influence over the city the cedar Park City council. He's basically running the cedar Park City council. He really busy really got a bunch of Benedict Arnold on that city council. Here's Jimmy Flanagan. Also, very excited to stand here with my colleagues talk about hospital to you know, I really want to acknowledge the unique moment that we're in cities from across the state have joined together in a way that that we have not seen before I have been on the conference calls and hearing mayors from very conservative areas from very progressive areas. Join hand and agree that this is not a proposal that reflects the wide diversity amongst municipalities. So they're locked hands together. These city councils across the state when is Jimmy Flanagan witness mayor Adler going to stand up and lock arms with tax payers. That is the thing. I it's like that has been completely completely ignored here. Like, we're not part of the equation is just whatever they. They decide we're supposed to go along with it. It's almost like they're assuming that we will. I think Jimmy Flanagan needs to learn something he may be United with other democrat leaning city councils across the state, but he should also realize that we the people the tax taxpayers were also United on this front to we're sick and tired of you stick in your hand deeper and deeper into our back pockets at any whim just because you got a pet project. You wanna fund it's time that the people the tax payers of this state had more control of their own money. But the thing that is really important to remember for our house members and four senators and for the governor's office. There are things that cities do that. The state wants us to do we have shared priorities that require raising revenue in order to implement. I have been out of events where the governor has shared the stage with the mayor.
