"A second hour, wow, we got the commissioner on here, and that will be very interesting. We'll talk to him in just a moment. Let's bring in some conversation about the volunteers with Adam sparks of the new central Adam, you talk to Josh Haifa today. And while several coaches, namely Nick Saban, talked about NIL and in an almost creepy fashion, what did hype will tell you? Well, I mean, I think the difference in a lot of coaches, not now, is one age. If you do something long enough, you're going to want to keep doing it that way. And I think that's some of what Sabin is into. Josh apple's in his 40s. He had been coaching that long. I think he's more adept at change. I think when you look at different programs and how they accept in IL and different ways, it's the teams that are hungry. The programs that are hungry, the programs that have been there before, but not in a while. That's why when you look at a lot of wins and in Iowa, it's Tennessee and Texas in Oregon and Nebraska. These programs that have had a taste and they want to get back and Tennessee is one of those sports is their collective and they're leading the pack, I think, in the SEC right now. And you can see that in the recruiting. I mean, Tennessee has a top ten class. Josh hop was not known as recruiter. He's built a staff to sort of build to get that recruiting class. But so much of it has to do with it. And that's how you're going to win now. And these programs are going to have to adapt and Josh apple's perfectly fine with doing that. So you're not hearing Josh, I will talk about going to Washington. You're here and talk about how to use the system as it stands. Yeah, I mean, everybody's a little leery about where this is going. I mean, I think you would agree with me. I don't think there's any senator that's going to come out and throw a bill out there. Everybody keeps this whole week, everybody keeps on saying, well, somebody do something. Well, who's somebody? I think there's enough. It takes the right senator. You can have and I think this will happen. You'll have a senator introduced legislation, but that doesn't mean it's going to pass. Yeah, and I mean, even on the set this week and on the podium back there, I'm a little perplexed by a lot of the comments that coaches have had of that we didn't know it would go to this, that, you know, I mean, I don't want to say coaches or naive but come on. I mean, this has been coming along. If you mix capitalism with college football, you can't be surprised that people are going to find inroads to get money to recruits and sister network had a 30 for 30 on this, rather SMU in the 80s. And this is what happens, and this was always going to happen. The phrase we've used for years is the wild wild west. And all the westerns I ever saw, it was lawlessness. And that's what we have now. You have a third of the states right now with no laws. And Haskell kids getting money. And I think that's only going to continue. Adam in terms of news because Kurt Schuyler was here earlier Tennessee was on the front part that got in late, so there was a lot of catch up going on. But what have you learned today from the Tennessee contingency? Well, the first question to Josh hop was about broome McCoy, USC transfer, wide receiver, had small field issues at USC, which led him to leave there. The former 5 star receiver. If you look at what Tennessee did well last year, it was throwing the ball. A lot of offensive top ten offense in the country. And they've got issues on defense still. So the way that they're going to win and compete and push at all in the SEC east is throwing the ball and moving the ball and having wide receivers. They lost two of their three wide receivers Cedric Tillman was here today. He'll be good again, but you have to have some support there besides him and bru McCoy is a big physical wide receiver that can play on the outside. If they've got other pieces there, but I think one thing that Josh happily did last year is take a lot of pieces that were undervalued elsewhere and make them work. And he's got to have talent at some point and broom McCoy has a talent. So what does it look like for him? Well, bru McCoy is ineligible right now. The thought is he's going to be eligible by the time the season gets here, but going into camp, they said there's still some hurdles they have to cross. He transferred from at the beginning of his career from USA to Texas and back to USC in like three months. And that's multiple transfers, and he had not played a game yet, but they're still trying to get that waiver. Tennessee will figure it out. Sure, sure, why not? If you can get a good white out on the field, I'm sure they'll figure out some way to push it through the NCAA NCAA's lost his teeth in a lot of ways anyway. They've lost everything. In many ways, Adam, thank you for being here. We will catch up with you in a couple of weeks as camp begins Adam sparks from the new central commissioner probably knows a little bit about the topic we just got through talking about as well. And the commissioner of the SEC will be next.

"Been 11 speculation out there possible possibility of you guys trading Kyler. Could you rule that out? Zero chance. There you go. It wasn't, we don't have. We have no intention of trading him. It wasn't the John Robinson of the Tennessee Titans talking about AJ Brown yesterday saying, what do you say there is no plans to trade him or something along those lines? Yeah. It was one of those expected to. Yeah. No chance is what he says. No chance. Okay. And Kyler Murray, then responded to a tweet from Ian rappaport, my NFL media group compadre, who tweeted that out. He wrote 101 100% zero chance. And then Patrick Peterson, Peterson. Has his own, he's got his own pod. He had chase Edmonds. I guess it was a former Arizona cardinal convention on his podcast. And they were talking about what's going wrong in Arizona and what's been wrong in Arizona and the conversation was about that Kyler Murray is not going to sit around and wait for the cardinals to put him into a position to be successful year after year. And Kyler Murray responds to the concept of him playing elsewhere. I want to win super bowls with the Cardinals AZ is home. Okay, now I don't understand the whole business of not putting kyla Murray in a position to be successful. Who the hell goes and who the hell goes and gets Deandre Hopkins acquired for him? And then AJ green signed and then Zach Ertz acquired in James Connor and so on and so forth. I don't understand. Position he's been put in the position to win and then the coach who puts the game plan together. It makes no sense. And then the general manager is like, let's go get JJ watt. Let's draft that Simmons kid. I mean, the team's there. That's been the problem in Arizona. The team's there. They were the last remaining undefeated team last year. They had a two game lead and division and blew it. The question is just why do they blow it? That's been the issue is why do they blow it? Because it's been set up to win. But the way I take it is Conor Murray's response to all of those is that money is being shown. Or the intention of showing the money is being is on the table. Why else did you attitude? I mean, why else that signs are pointing to the magic 8 ball? Kind of Murray. I love the magic. Magic 8 ball magic 8 ball. We're going to re sign with the Cardinals. He just said flat out, yes, kind of the same way that there was an answer. No. Of course not even trade a flat out. Yes, not even signs pointing as even though right now the 100 means signs pointing to yes that the signing is going to happen. Or he's confident is common, or the money has been shown on the table with an intention of like, look, we're not going to surprise you after the draft with you trying to force this before the draft. We're not going to surprise you. You have to do that with such a low ball offer that you're going to hold out. That's the way I'm reading this thing. Could be wrong. Otherwise, you know, because Kyler Murray is not shied away from using all of the levers to express his displeasure. Certainly on social media. Which he took to yesterday many times to respond, including one, to our competition, who not surprisingly right now is showing the tweet in response to his video right now. As predicted. Again, to star athletes. When you're in our tweet of this out, when you respond to somebody giving an opinion, you don't like, or you think is unfair, and you respond to that opinion, you're putting it on mine, radar screen, okay? So your widening the reach of this opinion. And the person who has this opinion is not going to sit there and go, huh, maybe I was wrong. Maybe I should rethink the way I come up with my opinions. Huh. Maybe I should look in the mirror. The answer is no, jackpot. Yeah..

"In the first 8 years of this program, and then over the next three hours, if you're in and out of your watching and listening, we say how dare you. We should be you should be captivated by every word that comes out of our mouths. I've got a special set of skills. Let's use them. What is that? Well, I was doing it taking things. I will find you. We'll find you. Good to see you over there, J Philly. How are you? DJ Mikey D is out of his chair once again today. Good to see you. TJ Jefferson lining the candles. It's good to be seen, rich. Hey man, you know who looks pretty damn great and championship quality. I would say Golden State Warriors are back. Now, you can see where did they go? Where'd they go? They went out due to injury they went out with clay's Achilles. They went out with, I guess, Durant Achilles. A lot of chilies that they've been dealing with. But who, over the first week of the NBA playoffs playing game tournament, et cetera, and so on and so forth. Looks the championship part. You could say there's a team in Philadelphia that's up three zero. Okay. You could also say that Miami heats up tool. They look good. The Celtics look good. I would agree. They look good. I think they look great. Members should consider who they're beating. Meant for grizzlies have won two in a row after dropping that first one of the Timberwolves looked like that they were going to be down to one and they went on some huge role last night, right? How about the Dallas Mavericks doing what they're doing without Luca? They're up to one on the jazz shock. All right, that's a pretty good one. The bucks without Middleton now for the foreseeable future. They've got a Donnie brook on their hands against the Chicago Bulls. They're in trouble, right? They're in trouble. But who just looks the part? Because not only the way that they're filling it up, but the way that they're shutting it down when the game's on the line, and who's doing it with the old familiar faces who have won before. Who's doing that? Abby or Golden State Warriors. How about 26 for clay 27 for curry? And then you've got Jordan Poole. Now I could say what did I tell you? It's like the rest of the league has eyes and ears too. Yeah, you didn't discover. Of course not. But look out is what I said at the beginning of these playoffs that he's about to shine and show up and shine out. And he's going to be the one to tell everybody that there's trouble. Certainly if clay is catching and shooting like he did last night in Denver. Certainly if Steph is the best player ever on a minute's restriction. In the history of minutes restrictions, he's the greatest player in the history of minute restrictions. I didn't see the beginning of the game. Did Steph start or did he come up with no one's not the man? And he was on the old minutes restriction. And then by the end, the nuggets fans as he is driving the lane on jokic who had an incredible game last night, a great finish from him last night. As he's driving a lane on him and lays it in and then puts everyone to sleep, which my kids love. They had never seen that the night night before, especially since it was late at night, and I'm like, guess what, guess what? Steph just told you two. It's time for bed. See you later, night night. When curry's doing that and then draymond green plays defense and the crucial moment the way that he did. And he facilitates in the way that he's facilitating. You've got Hall of Famers in curry and clay, and yes, draymond. And now it appears the warriors have been bestowed upon them a new generationally talented brilliant player. And I can say this because I saw it in college too. I know you could say it's real early. He still has to show a little bit more. We'll see what happens is the crucible of the playoffs begin to get a little tighter because the warriors are going to move on. Nobody's ever come back from a three game deficit, a three zero deficit like that. I don't know how much more I really need to see. This guy did it for most of the regular season and now. He's three for three and playoff games. He was 9 of 13 last night. That's about as efficient as it gets from a perimeter player. This guy's already awesome. And we didn't even mention Wiggins and Iguodala jamming it down like he's a rookie. I mean, they looked the part last night. They looked the part. They have some obvious matchup issues. Of course they do. Certainly if draymond's the one who's got a guard, jokic in an end of a game like that, but he comes up with the steel. And he facilitates and the team has terrific free throw shooters. So if you put them in the bonus in the fourth quarter, they're going to close you out too, even though they did have some trouble making some free throws last night in the fourth quarter. They look championship quality, guys. Look out if the sons aren't full speed and they're not. And the bucks aren't full speed and they're the defending champs. I'm telling you what, you got to look out for this team playing the way that they are playing with the guys that they have, feeling the way that they do. Look out. Agreeing with what you said, all season long, really, and when the playoffs started, warriors were ten to one before the playoffs to win the championship, they are now the favorite at plus two 80. Damn. Daniel. Okay. Just call me Richie Sheridan over here, man. That is an old school reference. I know that. That was the last time I gambled. You were getting lines at USA Today. I was reading my name in boldface by Rudy Mart ski. Being new at ESPN. Then I turned the page. That's the truth. Danny Sheridan reference. Thank you so much. Everybody. I did just do that. At least I didn't call myself the Greek. I didn't call myself. So that's the top story in the NBA. In the NFL, look, folks, we can talk about Instagram scrubbing all we want. When it all comes down to it, if a player and a team want to be together and the team gives the player the money.

Great to have all of you here. Appreciate coach Fisher joining us as we get ready for another spring football weekend. Three in a row that we had one last weekend as well. Let's get to the calls and Frank in Minnesota. Hey, Frank. Hey, Paul, how are you doing today? Very well, Frank. Hey, Paul, in regards to the next commissioner of the big 12. Do you think you could help at all with kind of building a little bit of a groundswell of momentum and help all of us Big Ten pans and see if we could get Kevin Warren moved to the big 12 commissioner role? Frank, I'm afraid you're stuck with him. I don't think anyone else wants commissioner Warren right now. That's what I was afraid you were going to say, Paul. He's been absolutely terrible. No leadership, no direction, no nothing. And that it would just be a blessing. I will have to Frank, I must tell you. I'm surprised. And I say that because I've had the opportunity to get to know him. In fact, had dinner with him a couple of years ago and sitting with him, I thought this guy was can't miss personable, great background, a good Family Guy whose son played football at Mississippi. We talked about that. And I don't know what has happened to him. I think from afar, I think he was intimidated a little bit by following a legend like Jim Delaney, so he was determined that I'm going to do it a different way. I don't think he got good counsel. I thought he totally blew COVID and since then has gone off really in a couple of directions that I think are terribly unfortunate, especially this ridiculous alliance that has served nothing but damaging the game of football by refusing to go in and support the expansion of the playoff. Paul couldn't agree more, we're also disappointed, you know, he was an executive in the Vikings up here in Minnesota and he had a great track record, great pedigree, but just as really the nothing. No, no. I mean, it pains me to say that because my prior relationship with him, which is now nonexistent, but I think. Case or off. Kenny is up next. Hey Kenny. Kenny, you're on. Kenny, you got to answer the phone when you call John is an Charlotte to hello, John. Hey, Paul, we were talking yesterday and I had a bad connection about the pods. Right. And we talked about, in my opinion, you have to keep the iron ball. You have to keep the outdoor cocktail party and you have to keep auburn, Georgia, the oldest rivalry, and you threw out you have to keep the egg bowl. But I do think that the pod is the Alabama pod will be Alabama auburn Georgia and Florida to appease the cocktail party and the Arkansas, hold on, hold on, you said the pod would be Alabama, Georgia, auburn, and Florida. No, there's no way. If you don't have that pod, then you lose either the iron bowl. Well, no, you don't have to have yeah, I mean, Alabama and auburn are going to are going to be in the same pod in Georgia and Florida are going to be in the same pot, but Alabama, Georgia, Florida and auburn are not going to be in the same pod. Probably not, but that's all I said. But if they would, put Alabama, Georgia, born and auburn in the same way. Well, can you just can't do that? You can't have. But anyway, I don't know what it's going to be. I just know it's not going to be that. Thank you very, very much. Kenny, again, go ahead, county. Hey, Paul, nice to talk to you today. How do you do it? Hey, we're doing great. Thank you. Good. Listen, I won't ask you. What's your take home on AG at hole over there at Alabama? What's your take on that? Well, Kenny, I don't know anything other than what I've heard. So it sounds like there was there was an issue and I think Nick Saban's adaptation. So he let the kid go. Yeah, well, you know, Disney Yale trouble last year followed what he didn't get in trouble last year. I know that billingsley was in trouble the whole year. And he's gone now, but I don't know that. I think he had some sporadic issues based on what I've read. Okay, okay, I thought you might have something else on there. Well, I wish I did. But I think I know Nick Saban well enough to know that he's sick and tired of putting up with things. And in today's world, it's difficult because Saban has run a program a certain way for a long time. And now because of the success of our previous coach and others, it's more difficult because the pressures come. You heard what Jimbo said. You don't know when the next crisis is going to start. Usually you have a football season winner recruiting and then one spring ends, there's a little bit of a break. But there's never a break because there's always some shark out there representing a player trying to get him to go somewhere else. Thank you for the call. Do appreciate it. Let's check in with Ryan in Cincinnati. Hey Ryan, how's it going, grim Reaper? We are, we are grim, and we are reaping. Well, at least it's masters week that sheer is all off. So we got four days of looking at that glorious golf course. You got it. So, Paul, put myself up for adoption. I don't want to be associated with these crybaby Yankee callers who come in here and complain about the SEC and all the bias. So I'm putting myself up for adoption. Would you southerners be willing to adopt me? Well, if we could bypass the antiquated adoption laws, I'll go ahead and we'll take you in right now. Oh, I appreciate it, Paul. Appreciate it. You know, I got to give Jim credit for handling the accusations about that being his kid. That's the best job I've seen somebody handle the accusations like back in the glory days when Devin took on the Mark Ingram allegations like a champ. I think Jim had the right approach just simply ignore ignore the spurious allegations from that snot nose little kid who was acting like he was his grandson. And Jim won the Jim won that round, hands down. No, Jim was like a fully Bailey and a trial and that kid was like Mark fuhrman after sailing. It's destroying him on stand. Mark fuhrman was looking for the glove that did not fit. And you know what, Paul, what was the term gym where you stayed with about the way he was with women? I forgive what do you say? I think he what did he call that flagrantly, yeah. You know, I mean, whatever Jim said, you have to respect. Yeah, because it was the opposite of your boys to call in militant and clean the bumped ugly term. That guy, he had a 93 year old woman having an affair with famous football coaches. Pat died. Back in the glory days, Paul, isn't that right? Those were the good old days, Ryan, when the show was fun, there weren't sensors off of behind the behind the curtain, you're ready to come in here and lop my ear off if I allowed something like that. You know, I was ready to text nothing wrong with that. But we got PG now. Oh yeah, PG with warning. Yeah. Because you know what was about to happen. And it was pretty entertaining, especially when your buddy called in his military. That was straight entertainment. I don't know how you would say. I would say the first 5 or 6 milligram calls were all timers. Oh, yeah. Those are classics. Those are a heart attack wait and a half, 'cause you couldn't stop laughing so. Well, Ryan, thank you for the call. Really appreciate it. We've had a busy start with Jimbo Fisher joining us more guests a little bit later on and your phone calls right after this. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Love ESPN radio, but not all the ad breaks. Then we've got news for you. ESPN radio's now available commercial free. On tune in premium. "We have spring football coming up on Saturday, the university of Kentucky at one auburn and Texas a and M at 2 p.m.. Okay, we are going to talk to coach Fisher in just a moment. We will continue to take your phone calls at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 and we're looking forward to talking to you coach Fisher because since we have visited with him last, so much has been made out of the dominance of Texas a and M in the past recruiting class, which doesn't seem to end. Let's welcome the coach to the program coach. Very, very, very good to have you on. I know your game is coming up. We'll talk about that in a minute, but how are you? Doing well, Paul, how are you doing, buddy? We're doing great. And I know you've got a lot going on in your life, but you have become such an interesting target in college football now, because of your success in recruiting and you've responded to it in the past, but I'm just curious and I think everyone is how you are now coping with this role as somewhat of the villain of college football because of the success of your past recruiting class. I don't know if I'm the villain hero, whatever it is. I don't have social media, so that's up to them. So it doesn't matter to me when he's trying to get the players in here. We need to get into our fast going a great job of recruiting and hopefully putting together a great team. Coach, I know I know you're moving ahead and you got a season to prepare for and spring football to wrap up. But and you've addressed it a couple of months ago, but do you feel like will it calm down or do you think that's just the price of being successful in recruiting? Well, I don't know, I hope to be successful in recruiting with successful in the field like the work two years ago and in the top four and doing the things we got to do. I mean, that's up to somebody else. We're just going to do what we do and we're going to recruit. We're going to coach. We're going to play and hopefully we'll put you into play well and grow and grow this program into a national championship program and do the things we have to do. And whatever they have to say, they have to say and like I said, there's issues in college football that's for sure. And but you know, we're doing things the right way. And the way they should be and we got a tremendous university in tremendous staff to put together and that tremendous academic tremendous university to sell and everything's going well right now. Let's talk about what you've seen on the practice field leading into the game Saturday. How would you describe your spring? Growing? I think that a lot of young players had some older guys at seasoning and injuries at the end of last year that were out which is you hopefully that way they'll be healthy in the fall, but a lot of our young players are new players and we have 12 of the new freshmen coming in. I think they're all doing really well. All making a good push in different positions, really learning some guys last year some of our leadership guys have really taken the leadership role and started taking over the program or three quarterbacks, I think, are playing really well. Keep growing each and every day. We're developing those young linemen, the young D lineman that's in the linebackers in which we're at. And I've been very pleased with, I mean, you have ups and downs of spring, but it's a lot of teaching. It's a lot of putting guys in situations to see how they react and a lot of fundamental work to not only in your schemes, but just in technique and alignment to things of that nature and new schemes that you may put in a little bit more in the fall. So pleasant spring, I liked it. I mean, guys are working hard, hopefully we'll stay injury free and get through to spring game. These next two practices do well. Coach, I know this is a question that will continue long after spring in relation to the quarterback situation. And whether there has been any separation yet now, I mean, I think it's too early. I think there's so much learning going on right now. You've got two guys who have never been a program in max Johnson and Connor wagman who are both grass to system extremely well having great days, so in the football, they're talented. It's definitely there. It's elevating our team, Haynes has really pushing himself as great to have him back full steam since we got the injured last year. I think he's taking a great role in leadership rolling in that regard. And those guys, they just battle back and forth and they keep raising each other's game and each brings some different things to the table, but a lot of very similar. I mean, I say max is a much better athlete than people talk about and I think Haynes and Ames definitely throws up all much better than because you always think of him as an athlete and young Connor wigman who I'm very high on. I think is an excellent excellent player and we know it has all the tools to be a great player. So it's been fun and they age and we rotate them with different groups and ones and twos and I got to meet you in there to interact with different kinds of guys and I think that's important too to see how they lead the older guys, the younger guys and I always say great quarterbacks could find a way to move the ball with whoever's in the game. And those guys are experiencing that right now and I think very pleased with whether development is right now. Talking to cochin Bo Fisher of Texas a and M as the aggies get ready for the spring coach when spring ends, what will be left for you to decide when you next bring this group back before the season? What will be at stake that hasn't already been determined? Well, it'll be a lot to be determined. I mean, I always say this, you have spring heroes and yet with ball ball star, that's the real ball. I say that. I mean, you have your footprint on things and spring ball is extremely important, but you've got to what you do in the summer. I think the tremendous strategy you make right now from the rest of school was out here, which is the beginning of May, and then all the way through your summer program, those guys that are lifting or running, but more importantly, those schematics in the scheme,.

"Thank you for taking time out of your busy day on this Thursday. I know there's a lot going on with the masters underway. We'll keep you updated if anything important happens. Tiger is well on his way in his round for those of you who have not been watching. But we have a lot to do here. So let's get right to it. Aggies. Embracing the role of being the villain. We'll talk to Jimbo Fisher about that. Something tells me he likes it. They are now the bad boys of college football. We'll talk about that in just a couple of minutes with the head coach himself as they get ready for spring the spring football game. Meanwhile, at Alabama, we anticipated this could happen. And now it has a lot of conversation about one young player who is gone over a violation of team rules Nick Saban didn't have a lot to say about it last night, but one got the impression he has said the final word on this. I don't think mister hall is coming back anytime soon. Meanwhile, they love AR-15 in Florida. It was all about Anthony Richardson last year, didn't quite happen. But anyway, he is the man of the moment for a new football coach. There is a new remember the ruling the Austin ruling allows players to make money off of education and a number of schools are taking advantage of it. It comes to, oh, any word between $507,000 a year, and that's non NIL money, but it's legit. These are the ten schools that are in the midst of it. Alabama Arkansas auburn, Florida, Kentucky LSU. Missouri all miss South Carolina and Tennessee. So what are we going to do today? We are going to have a number of guests, especially at the beginning of the program when Jimbo Fisher is scheduled, scheduled to join us here in just a few minutes. We're also talking to Nick Kelly about things in Tuscaloosa. And who knows? We may pop around some other places as well. That's all we're willing to tell you right now. Let's get to the phones at 855-242-7285 and we begin with bubba in North Carolina. How about? Hey Paul, how's it going today? Very well. I was watching WC and C at a Charlotte this morning. They were reporting that the university of South Carolina was literally firing their trustees or spending $10 million on a coach's buyout. I would have to assume it was probably will must have. Have you heard anything about this? Yeah, I think what this is, I think this is a bill in the legislature that would do that. And yes, it is a responsible when you think about it. But if you're going to fire the trustees, all they did was sign off on it. They're not the ones who made the offer, are they? No, no, and I agree. I only say it was saying I was wondering if would you set a price in that for all these coaches walking away with millions of dollars is because the university wanted the new coach, how that might affect. Well, first of all, this is just a House bill, bubba, this is not, I don't think this has gone into effect. Yeah, but ultimately the trustees have supervision, but I think you have to start holding other people accountable too, like the decision makers on their campus who make these decisions that end up costing the university so much money. Let's check in with will, who is in New York, a hello will guard ahead. David, what's going on, Paul? We are doing great. So I got a comment and a question. My comment is that I'm in the picture. I don't know if you're a, if you know a lot of ambient. Well, I was wondering if that's like grab a zombie's like messier uncle or something like that. Well, so keep talking because I'm struggling to completely understand what you're talking about here. All right, hold on. Yeah, well, we're not holding off. If you've got something to say, say it. TD is up next in Georgia. Hello TD. Hey, Paul. How's it going? Very well. Thank you. Why is everybody so upset over this? I don't know. It's been in the water for about two years. It's been an effect for 9 months. Why now? I do not know. Okay, before you fully brain GMO on, tell me exactly what he said that made everybody so mad. Well, I don't think it's a matter of what he said. Jimbo Fisher hasn't said anything other than react in response to the critics, especially lane kiffin. That's what we're, I don't think Jimbo Fisher just figured out a way to deal with the system more effectively than anybody else. I have yet to hear anybody point toward Jimbo and say, you did this illegally. They may be telling their boosters at, but there's no evidence that Jimbo Fisher and Texas a and M did anything wrong. They just were able to beat everybody in a game that most were not familiar with playing. All right, one quick thing, didn't he say that what he did used to be legal? Yeah, no. He said what we're doing now used to be considered cheating, but it's not cheating any longer. Yeah, but he left out the most important part. What you know what that is? I do not. No, that's not what he's talking about. He's talking about the way they are getting players in. I mean, they're getting, they are making money, but the school is not paying them the money. Anyway, we can debate this all day long, but we probably will choose not to. What do you got math? Several recording wise, it's been busy. I got one DSLR you stupid people, put your link in his mind about in his recruiting class, like Jim will say, he just better at playing the game, and they didn't seem to get over it and felt whining so much about it all. Why do you think, why do you think so many people and they're flat out accusing Jimbo of illegal things, you know that? I know that, but what's he saying hindsight, even if he did paying where he did not pay him, it ain't really going to know more, Paul. So, and to get no proof even did it, can you just be whiny babies because they're headed to the game and they're not? Well, that's exactly right. Well, thank you for the call, Matt. Davis and Missouri, Dave go right ahead. Hi, Paul. This is the husband of Peggy, the grass eater. From my question is from what you've seen, Sam Pittman's razorbacks. Do you think that they have any chance of going to the championship? Well, yeah, they always taught me never to answer questions with absolutes, but if you ask me, do I think they are a contender with Alabama to go to the championship? My answer would be no. I don't think they are. Well, I've kind of hoping they would, and I value your opinion, I hope it works out for them. I really do, because one thing I try not to do, I believe in being as straight as I can be, you know, I don't need to praise Sam Pittman. Everyone knows he's a really good coach. But when you look at Arkansas right now, I think they are legitimate. They prove that last year, but it's one thing being legitimate. It's another thing knocking Alabama off. I mean, they don't have an easy, that's a tough path. And looking at the schedule, it's a pretty challenging schedule. And I don't, I mean, I think they could go ten and two, but I don't think they can run the table, which I think they would probably have to do to be in Alabama to beat Alabama to Atlanta. We'll take a break. We are just off and running your phone calls continue here at 8 5 5 two four two. 7 two 8 5 and Jimbo Fisher expected to join us next. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Hey there, I'm Julie foudy from laughter permitted alongside my.

"Going to win. You can't get outcome already and I think we did early and we were mature enough to get out of it and be able to come back and win the game and I think that's gonna be a big part of this game a month. Talking to Jimbo Fisher and you're the only person in the world that can talk about beating Nick Saban in terms of one of his former assistants. And we make so much out of that coach. You've heard it before. You know, some caller calls into a talk show. Why do I think Alabama is going to win because of Nick Saban? Let me ask you what kind of a stupid silly question, but what difference is Nick Saban making these games? Well, I think he's done it before. The trust factor that is, I always say this. You gotta trust everybody. Trust your teammates, trust your team, trust everything. But the hardest person in the world to trust is yourself. And then you've got to trust the guy who's giving you the instruction. Do you really, really trust the guy who's running the show? Has he done it before? Has he helped me? And I think his experience is success, his track record makes a difference. It's not that he has magical answers, as if the guys believe in the system and the philosophies and what he does make the adjustments or he does makes a call, they can do them and they trust because he's done it before, and his history is holding that. Nick has been there, he's got experience, and he's had enough experience in success that he's comfortable in his own skin to be able to do that. I remember early when we won our first national championship when I was with him. I mean, and he's grown so much from him. I don't mean that as a negative. I mean, he had all those ingredients, but it was times like now he saved a lot more relaxed and comfortable in his situation. It wasn't always like that. And he had to imagine when we had him, we won the first one. I mean, there was a lot of that. But I think the players over time have understand them with Nick says it. It's for the best of us and we can win. And there's a trust factor there, and I think is really critical to coaches who've had a lot of success. With Jimbo Fisher, a couple of other questions, coach. NIL is all over the place. And I'm sure you don't peruse the social media boards, but there's so much craziness out there, including involving your own program about a payroll to keep and I say that satirically. But can you address where we are today with NIL? I saw my show by that article. And we're going to raise $30 million for one class. Lord almighty. That's more than enough. I mean, this is a joke. I mean, it's crazy, but at the same time, NIO is very, we can't guarantee it. Our coaches and we have nothing to do with that. And here's the outside companies and things. And I always get way overblown. There's got to be a reason for everything it's the new thing, Paul. It is not as relevant as people think it is. Is there an opportunity that's going to be all the time? You're in the state of Texas? You have great business. You have great economy. And you're going to be having a California having Hollywood, you have them in New York, you haven't been Florida, you have in mind. You have them everywhere. Other big pro, everybody's the same. Like I said before, everybody's making a deal that somebody gets a $50,000 and IM deal. What about the guy who used to get $50,000 bag dropped off in his house? It was just under the table. No one talked about back in the day. That was a big part of recruiting forever. But NIO is not as big as people make it out to be as their opportunities out there. Yes. And it's all new for us coaches, too. We're not involved setting those up or have any part of that. And for some of the stories and things that go on, as you say, folklore is a lot bigger than the truth. I promise you that. Yeah, and I know you can't shoot down every article. But it appears somewhere and then it gets disseminated and then brought right back as truth, does it not? Well, if it's written on the Internet, it's true, right? Right. Whoever's in charge and whoever says that, if you're talking at your line, if it's written on the Internet by somebody who doesn't claim it, it has no facts or no verification. It's always a 100% truth. We know that from everything you say on your show, you're on your show, you're lying. It's got to be printed on the Internet on social media for it to be true. A lot of truth in that. Before you go, I would like to address the disappointment of not playing in the postseason, a lot of has been said about that, but we haven't had a chance to hear it from you. Yeah, I mean, listen, there's no one want to play more than me. It's a great chance. Like I said, we had some injuries, and we had a couple opt outs. We didn't have we had a few opt outs. We had a great team coming. I was looking at four to play in a lot of younger guys, getting into ball game. I love Volga. Had great success in ball games. We love going for the kids to have a whole week for us to take that opportunity away from these kids. It's a shank. But at the same time, we had 8 opt outs. We had 12 full season injuries, and then we had 27 guys that had it, and that's we didn't get to practice for three days. Each day we would have four 6, 7 that kept multiplying once we're together. We couldn't get back together to practice. And then once guys went home, we had another 6 to 8 guys called and said, we tested positive at home because we get sick after that. We would have had under 30 players to play the game. We had one corner, one safety, two linebackers. We had one walk on quarterback. We had two receivers. We had, and some of our we had no way to have a special team. I mean, it was just, it was no win. There was any way we could have played our promise you. We would have played the game in one to play the game, but I hate giving up Vogue. I love ball games. I think I'm as big a traditionalist as there is in college football about the importance of ball games for the kids, the players and the families. And it was a shame, and I'm extremely disappointed. We weren't able to play. Jimbo Fisher, not only is he a great coach, he'll be a TV star on Monday at night. Coach, thank you for being here. Look forward to watching. And look forward to seeing you soon. When I retire, I'm coming for your job. You will be taking a pay cut. I promise you. Jimbo Fisher. Do you want to go from College Station?.

"Roman Shane Bieber around the corner and more of your phone calls, Jim, is up next in Georgia. Hello, Jim. Hey, Paul, how you doing? Good fortune to be able to talk to you and ask a question. I just got two little quick points I wanted to see what your thoughts were, how has Florida failed to where they have and recruiting and the number two question is, whatever happened with that Tennessee problem where they were given players money and bags that recruitment visits? The Tennessee situation is still under investigation and it has not been resolved yet. And I think the sooner it is resolved, the better it will be. I remember I had an opportunity when I was in Knoxville a couple of weeks ago to speak to the Chancellor who is the one that was one out front there, Chancellor plowman. And she indicated that they're trying to expedite the case as quickly as possible on the Florida case. I think some of it had to do with the fact that Dan Mullen was not an elite recruiter. He was a good recruiter, but he clearly didn't take it as seriously as others. And I think the rumors beginning in mid October that he would be dismissed affected them and ultimately the transition hurt and billionaire has only been there a couple of days. There's only so much you can do. So it's pretty remarkable to see Florida that low in the rankings at the bottom. That's shocking. Tom is up next in St. Louis, a hello Tom. Tommy there. Yes, Paul. Wonderful. Great to have you on. Thanks. First time long time. Great. Hey, I wanted to just give you a shot about Missoula recruiting. I mean, I think drink was just getting it done. We have the best wide receiver in the country, coming to MU. We are very fired up about it. We're going to a recruiting event tonight to hear coach talk about the boys, but I'm interested in your opinion. Now it's time to coach them up. Well, I think there's been a buzz about Missouri recruiting throughout the winter and the fall into December. And he delivered today and at first I was a little surprised because this was not a great year on the field. It was a disappointment in many respects, but give him credit for staying the course and doing what you have to do. And when Missouri has a recruiting office, it's significant because this has always been more of a developmental program. And I think now that you're getting those type of players, it will have a significant impact. I'm curious what he has to say later. Thank you very, very, much Langston is in Georgia. Hello Langston. Hey, what's up, Paul? Good to talk to you, man. There's been a lot about this Travis hunter kid today and he's a very good wide receiver slash quarterback. Transferring from Florida state to Jackson state, which is really crazy. And I just wanted to talk about the coming from an Alabama fan looking at Georgia this season. I said the whole season, their competition was very small. And when you come up to Alabama and Nick Saban takes them like that, I just knew that we had a good chance in this game. But I'm really wondering, always thought Georgia's defense is very superior. And they always have a chance to win the national championships too. I think they may will. And they're all fenced and steady and Ben can work it out. He has a good offensive line, and I still wonder if they're going to beat Michigan easily. It will be a close game poll. Thank you for the call. James is up next in Georgia. Hello, James. Hey, Paul, how are you doing? We're great. Thank you. Hear me? Yes, I can. Thank you. Hey, I grew up in Texas and I was big cowboy fan all my life. I got to replacement when Nick Saban decides to retire. I would hire Deion Sanders with no questions. He's going to turn out to be one of the best college coaches around. You just wait and see. Well, I don't know if he'll still be available by the time Saban retires, but I know another school about 400 miles from Tuscaloosa that may be hiring him before Alabama does. Well, I would hire him in a minute. I love watching him play football and I'm going to tell you right now. He's proven that he's a good coach. I agree with you. I'm a huge. I suggested that I can't remember which maybe southern Cal. Somebody, I really think he will get a head coaching job. Thanks for the call. Appreciate it. Brad is up next in Atlanta. Hello, Brad. Hey, Paul. Sorry to call back, but real quick. I was just curious what do you think is going to happen like for college game day and shows like that where you have all these plans outside kids excited that there's been home signs or whatnot when they realized that all these kids, all these football players, it's more like a protein. They could be at your school today that could be some other school tomorrow. They're not your fellow students. Better point. Brad, thanks for the call. I've been to college game day, spending a year doing that show. I've done the SEC show for the last 8 years. And I don't think it's going to affect one person showing up. Fans loved the experience. They loved the game. They love everything that is connected to college football. And you could come out today and say the Bryce young has a $1 million. He does have a $1 million deal. So forget I said that. We will take a break. Shane beamer around the corner, more of your phone calls and more guests as well. You are listening to the Paul.

"Focus in the present and do the next right thing the right way. And over the course of the season, we obviously the two games we won, we fought tooth and nail, and we were able to stage comebacks. And when through adversity, I think, as we got into the SEC schedule, we were able to show improvement, though not in wins and ultimately that's what we're here to do. So there was progress made. Obviously, it wasn't where we wanted to be. We understood coming into this that we had a challenge ahead. I'm proud of the way the guys stayed in the fight. I'm proud of the way they got back in the fire each week. I think we have a healthy amount of turnover from year one to year two. And I believe that, again, with the addition of the pieces that we're adding and recruiting, we have to a chance to be exponentially better heading into next fall. And that's going to require starting now, you know, attention to all the areas we need to improve upon and immersion in our systems and a deeper development and to not just what we do. Year one was about what we do, year two is about how we do it and why we do it. And I think with attention and focus in those areas, we have a chance to dramatically improve our product. We're talking to coach Lee. Coach finally, there's no easy way to put on a blackboard or even in this conversation, we can get there when. But how long does it take? Well, you know, when you talk about how long does it take, you know, I think it's a matter of what you're measuring your endpoint to be. How long does it take to reach the potential of this program? Well, we got our site set on great heights. And so we don't recruit to a program where we say, we're just going to try to be competitive. We recruit to a program where we say we're here to win the SEC. And so for us, it's a matter of focusing on the present focusing on the day to today to make sure we're doing all the little things we can do in the moment to deliver those results. And so how long does it take? When do we get there? What's the destination? What I know we want to be as better today than we were yesterday, better tomorrow than we were today. And if we can take that mindset and multiply it and replicate it and moving forward, I think we have to have a chance to feel a good team this fall. And a lot of work has to do has to go into from this point until then. But we've got a good staff. We've got a good group of players and now we've added a group of recruits that we feel like can help deliver the results that we want with a little more immune. The head coach at vandy Vanderbilt as we begin to wrap up recruiting to coach many, many thanks for stopping by. We will see you soon. Hey, thanks, Paul. Great to be with you. Thank you so much. The coach and dander belt back to back with Jimbo Fisher. And we will take a break. More coaches around the corner, including Shane beamer and Brian and your phone calls..

"Those victory doesn't mean as much if you can't go back and repeat your performance in the next week and the next week and learn from those things and that's what our organization and our team needs to do because we keep building the culture here to have a chance to have a championship team and that's the education apart pro and that's a very hard thing because this when everything was going bad i told this eliminate the clutter. You can't listen to social media. You got to believe in the things you do. Well now when things are good. It's the same thing. Quit listening to social media. Go back in the disrupt replicate what we did last week. As far as preparation and mindset the games will be different. Teams are different. But how you prepare is the key so that way you control what happens to you and it's about how you play not your opponent you lose to mississippi state a week and a couple of days ago and we all. Let's let's be honest. No not you but we all wrote you off. It was over. How did you find a way to bring the team back. Well i think education same way and told the guys now that you know all the stuff out there you were saying and believing were the only ones still standing here. Trust what we have done. Trust our history as coaches trust and we have to trust you and we have to be in this thing together and educate them about what it takes to be successful and sometimes takes a few failures for guys to buy in not by it. I guess but totally believe in the standard in the level in which you have to do it and hopefully our kids do it now. The the thing the challenge like you say is now. We got to do it again this week. At missouri missouri is a very tough place to play a play very well at home. And we've got a heck of a challenge. I want end on something you said. It's a very beginning First thing you do you win you celebrate and then you talk to the recruits because that is that is the future of this program. What a night it it had to be to be a recruit kyle field to discuss Those conversations As much as you can not identifying players but what was the what was the mood of those conversations you know it was tremendous and like especially for guys who came from a distance who had never experienced a game at kyle field. The atmosphere the environment the crowd the people the twelve man and then the competition level. Play an sec football planet. The planet opponent like yet alabama and the level which we played that was tremendous record. Reception is good. But i think it really opened people's eyes to what how special this place can be if we put things in a row and keep recruiting and get the right players because at the end of the day. Listen you gotta coach guys. You've got to coach them. Well but you gotta have good players and you gotta have great players and football. It's not like basketball. You get two or three guys. You can win a championship. You got to have a lot of hand. We're all better coaches with real good players. And that's one that's one alabama skis. They recruited very well. So we have to do the same thing and recruit to that standard so we can coach that standard and do that. It was it was a great night for that and it was great conversation. Spas good as it can be coach. Show we talked to you. Three weeks ago today Before you had lost a game and now we talked to you after you. You've won the biggest game of the year in the sec. Congratulations and thanks so much for making time paul. Great to be with you buddy. Thank thank you very much Coach jimbo fisher from college station on our first guest on. What is going to be quite a.

Okay don't don't answer that first question mcelroy. Tesol boys in plenty of phone calls. And since midnight after midnight eastern time i've had countless techs in countless tweets. Are you going to let matt from san antonio on the show after you guys of humiliated him for the last six years predicting that texas. A&m would beat oklahoma. No we're not going to let matt. Aren't we refuse to let matt from san antonio come on here and you're right man. We all collectively owe you an apology. It's our bama fan. Are you crying baby. I think better than the one at twenty twelve. What do you think. Paul circular voter. Yeah i mean the difference was I think the that game johnny. I'll never forget it because we were we were just. It was so stunning. The fact that alabama had just come from baton rouge were. They had won a an epic game right in the fourth quarter and it was at home. I mean i guess it's hard to compare. I think this was more of a surprise because that. Am team was was expected to. I think they were. They weren't far off the top. Tell yeah Standpoint we restricted lose. This game was nobody nobody And and it wasn't only that nobody was picking. Am to win the game. The game was just the game. The game had gone off the radar screen. We had. John told you not on the other day and john said. There's not a lot of buzz about this game. Of course. Jon said that about the florida game. We need john to say that about more games because every time. John says that we ended up getting an epic confrontation. One question for you butter. When are you going to be in college station. You be there in twenty twenty three or twenty twenty two. I wanna nietzsche man. Were you know what. I didn't think there was any chance we would be in college station this year. But i may have to rethink that. Because i don't make the schedule but i'll have to see some of the remaining games. I think the likelihood of us getting out there have have gone up significantly. Matt we will get together soon. I appreciate your call and really glad to hear from you. How about john in louisville. Hey john hey. I was looking forward to math call. Congratulations to matt and look forward to the 'cause from legend daryl and Gi and dear do you really think legends gonna call. Oh he's going to be so angry and then August the fall on with the coach. And then i think this is A week where. Jeff is going to come out of the bushes from columbus and i ended cousin john in alabama. I think you'll hear from both of them. Not to mention louis Leo the lion. Where's leo leo. Chastising me about not not even criticism coach show just the fact that i've said that he is unlikely to survive. I mean unlikely. That doesn't even seem to be the right word right now john. No he's gone from If to win By the way the best call last week was your Weiss classmate it's niceness bob up well i knew that but it's always nice to get confirmation from a from a from an old friend and and who would have believed that The two dynasties in the last seven years. They're not currently at least in the playoffs. And i'm talking about clemson and alabama but you've got five big ten teams in the top ten. That's just unbelievable. Yeah and and and the big ten has become watched Some of the iowa penn state. Game saturday night and i. It was really interesting. I think the big ten is fascinating right now. They are eventually going to start beating each other up but you know give them credit This is illegal. A lot of us wrote off And one more thing. Let's give georgia's from credit to. They went down to auburn and not even playing. You know their best game. They completely shut auburn down and won that game by twenty four. The i just thought of georgia beating auburn by that. Many points is still kind of scary to me. When i when i've been having covered so many of those games okay we're done with that segment. More of your phone calls at eight five five to four to seven to eight five when we come back. We'll head to college station in. Talk.

"Alabama goes down a saving assistant beach the master and on this columbus day. Good afternoon. Welcome to what we think will be fairly four hours One of the most amazing weekends and modern college football history. And we are here to help recap it all for you. Let's get right to the headlines before the calls and it's all about sloppy execution questionable coaching decisions and alabama. Going down at kyle field. And i'm having a little bit of fun with it. That is a golf scorecard member when Jimbo fisher said that he would Take saving down the summer saving responded the next day. We thought so brilliantly in golf golf we do about college. Football and jimbo has caught up. A nineteen game win streak was the longest active in a hundred game. This is just unbelievable against ap unranked opponents. I lost since la monroe beat saving in his first season his first law services former assistant ever we all know about the previous twenty four and the whole college. Football world has been turned up side down and we will talk all about this afternoon. If you want to hear what jimbo fisher has to say about the epic victory. Don't go anywhere. He will be joining us in just a matter of moments from college station. So there is some other news Lsu doesn't win place or show at kentucky and yes coach. Show as of this hour. He is still the head football coach in baton rouge job set of evidence as far as that goes dentistry tigers. That's all about us is at the past only way you crunch it. They'll not really like you can go in there and i could read everything you guys could right. I can take about an hour. Would read all that stuff and they go. Tell them about all that stuff on the best thing for me to do is be very positive. Understand the expectation lsu. I will say this. And i'll say it again no as to tell me about the lsu expectations. I know i was born with them. So i understand. I understand this another lsu standard performance on the job again. A totally annoyed. Exactly where i'm at. And i'm going to go to work as hard as today and oblique a promise you. I will not blake for anyone. Well you're going to see this comparison a lot over the next few weeks. Gene zik auburn and odur on choosing won the national championship in two thousand ten with cam. Newton who was fired right after the auburn game than two years later osceola on eight and eight during a similar stretch. Six and seven in the sec and the home losses are really starting to be a problem and and this weekend they have another home game. Eleven am kick against the university of florida. Their archrival how about them dogs. They went down to the plains. We all thought that could be a tough game. It was not. The dogs made mincemeat at of the tigers and they are number one in the country have been number one any time in recent memory. Yeah they were number one In two thousand eight remember that season they started number one. They had a sloppy opening game. They dropped a number two. And then a couple of weeks later. Alabama came in. And i believe how to thirty one. Nothing lead at halftime and They never quite made it back to the top In eighty two they were number one and of course nineteen eighty the ended it number one before that you have to go back to nineteen forty two and lane kiffin been popping the over oral reading bacher after A huge win huge by a two point conversion. One of the games In any other year we would be obsessing over this game today. It was one of the great games of the year in college. Football or any other year and We are now getting to it..

"Playing freshman and sophomores and this even though they're very talented that doesn't mean they can handle all the situations distress the game management situations of game third-down red zone tight zone coming off. The i mean understanding how important every play has just because their maturity level they may have they being grown man bodies but their mind still haven't experienced although scenario so you get the inconsistencies and isn't and other people have town across the board. And i think the transfer puerto has a part to do with that. But i mean when you're constantly rolling over your team you're going to have growing pains you're going to have those guys trying to emerge into that and we think they're all they're not the fourth year juniors and fifth year seniors. That used to you. Remember this paul. I remember time in the seventies eighties early nineties the team with the most seniors a junior and senior starters on the sec like seventeen eighteen years and so now the influx of new people. When i know what's been that way for a long time but still that doesn't make them any easier when they have to go playing games performing a high level every play and not have some downplays and which allows the other team to be in the game. It's affecting everyone also. I mean i'm not saying it's affecting you. Because i mean we've seen you in one tie game and you pulled it out. Yeah but it. But i'm sure the fans are saying. I thought we were supposed to be the top four team in the country. I mean it's just i i. I'm curious right ball. It is and it's part of growing pains now. It's like the other day. But you gotta have urgency and i think i think that's what i was trying to tell our kids the other day and thank potential means you can do it but i wanna know. Are we progressing to do it. And i think that's all part of it and how quick we can get them to do it. How quick leadership team can emphasize that on the kids and how much urgency they have to make sure that we're fundamentally sound because some of the issues we know the game. They're not skiing and they're not lack of ability their fundamental issues right means we got a coach. Better put them in better position and they got to execute a little better. And i think that's part of when you have new inflex groups. Bessie like for us on the offensive line that group take as much chemistry as any unit together. Because you've got five and like was four on one page one. Just be a step off and that constantly that allows it makes it look bad. But that's the way the games play. Finally you always hear about Corrections and adjustments between the first and second week. We're now entering week four. But you're dealing with a different quarterback now for a couple of weeks and you're you're hitting a stretch of schedule arkansas missing alabama. It doesn't end can you can you do. I know you can do a lot of coaching during the week. But can you really change much as we get into this part of the season. I believe he can fundamentally. Can i think schematically you can do things. And i think it's how you plan how you implement and how the kids are willing to make sure they understand the film what to judgments are and their abilities and to learn and how you teach conceptually not just teaching conceptually is a very big part of football. Today sometimes gets overlooked sometime. We teach some people teach plays. If you teach conceptually you can always adjust off concept. It's hard just off memorization. And i think that's a key to allow you to get better during the season coach pleasure. I know it's a busy time. We always appreciate when you can draw by paul. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Jimbo fisher joining us from college.

"To keep espn at the top visit. Ibkr dot com slash fantasy football to learn more. We are back really looking forward to our next guest. He'll be part of one of the most eagerly anticipated match up to the year in the sec. When arkansas takes on texas. Am in arlington coach. Jimbo fisher welcome to the program I know it's been somewhat of a bizarre couple of weeks but you look pretty good though no worst aware. How are you doing well. This ain't i always beginning of a new season. Is your evolving your team developing your team. And the things you do. Well you do poorly and coaching them up. And you know watching this team evolve can be. I heard you after the game. I think it was after the game when Somebody was talking about the potential for this team. And you didn't seem to take too kindly to that word and for those who miss it. I wouldn't mind you explaining that description of your team because you said it reflects on everything does potential as the potential made you have ability. But you haven't done it yet. That means you need to consistently play a better in a higher level and potential can be a great word in the beginning but it can be it can be very detrimental word as you keep progressing along in the season and we're three games and we're we're nowhere near a perfect team and we're always the hopefully evolving each and every week but you don't want potential attached to you. Want to see progress attached to you. You're undefeated you've got quite a stretch. But whatever knew that would that would be the case. But i'm curious about your thoughts on the quarterback situation. You lost your starter. You have a young man who came in and did lead you to a tough victory. How do you feel about the offense right now. Under zodda existence that can get the ball all parts of the field. He came in a very tough situation and cholera. Got thrown into it and we didn't play well around him. Either it was. It was not just him. It was magnified because of him Receivers tied enzo line. Run mean different guys but then he was able to really pull it back in the last two drives. He had that football game was really remarkable. With the way we were playing in that. See that gives me tons of hope. And then i thought he played a very solid football game last. We'll get one mistake with a pick. But he made three touchdown throws kubwa really outstanding. Good on third down managed the game. I thought played a very very solid game is progressing very well listen. He has ability to beach with his legs and he can definitely get the ball to all parts of the field with his arm. Let's turn the page to this week. And i don't think you've missed. Maybe maybe weren't paying attention but you are now what arkansas has been doing in your assessment of what you've seen of them. Well you know it's funny each and every team across the country this year. It's kind of. I say a different year. Everybody's trying to find their legs. Arkansas found him either one of the few teams that have played very solidly all three games. They're running the ball exceptionally well. You saw what they did in texas game and other games in which they played very good ground. Ground game quarterback jefferson's doing now standing job of getting the ball down hitting so many big plays receivers or athletic tight ends a good player Backs can run it. Defensively barry always done a great job. Barry mixes three down front. Four down fronts blitzes multiple coverages and that team is playing very physical. They're playing very hard to play. Very disciplined and wrestle. Teams are very. Well so i mean they're playing in all three phases right now well into the country. You'd say everyone in your career winning a national championship being in the playoffs playing for titles. I i'm curious about you'd mentioned barrio. Open because a lot of people have really Painted a very positive picture of him if somebody that has gone against the best everywhere what is it like to go against him very multiple. I mean he makes you dot is and cross t.'s. I mean he's a zone guy. He's a man guy he's a blitz guy. He's a three down guy he's a four down guy and the multiplicity of things he makes you think as a play collar but he makes your kids think on the field because of how you have to set your system up and i think he does a really good job of that coach. I know you can only focus on what is ahead but As a fan as somebody. Who's in this league. I'm sure you you look around when you have a minute to. And i'm curious just overall because we've seen already we're we're just three weeks into the season so many bizarre things happen. What's going on here. I think you're into a new world now. I think you know you're into a transfer of puerto world so teams are going to change drastically good and bad. Some guy's gonna leave play teams other teams going to get new guys so i think the different groups of people always coming together. I think you're now. I think all your name image and likeness things. I think it's a new thing for all these kids to handle and deal with. And i know it's great for them to get it but it's a lot more added pressure in other added things to to what they've got going on and i is this landscape of college football constantly changes. I think the kids are going to have to just think. That's what you see. And i think you know you're getting really good performances and then you a little bit of inconsistency and certain areas but in the teen talented are still finding ways to win. But i think that's part of the new world in which we're going to be in part of it in my opinion in college football from now this. There's also an expectation and you'd be you've been there You know having the defending national champion. You know how tough it is and you you. You went the whole season without a loss until the end. And we see this whether it's a clemson whether it's alabama ohio state oklahoma it just seems like these teams that we have. The the bullet bull's eye on their back are struggling this season. So far this and here's the other thing guys. Don't stay in school as long anymore. So you're getting a ton of guys are hitting at junior thing and they're leaving and going to the wall of a sudden you're playing freshman and sophomores and this even though they're very talented that doesn't mean they can handle all the situations distress the game management situations of game.

"Line that Is way off. Two years in a row The other side of it is yes. The gators are better than what people are giving them credit for being. They look at what they lost. They don't look at what they have. And i would say to. You is a suggestion. That outside of georgia and alabama the knowledge. You have the rosters in the rest of the sec is somewhat superficial and if you want to get more re- Viewership you might wanna have your staff do a little bit more depth research so that the people that Are calling the games they can talk to and find out in depth what they see and who the starting backfield is who best players are all of that. Because i don't get that on this show. And i think it would add a lot to the show if we had more talk about the individual players on the other team. Because we've got some very good team cindy sec. That aren't alabama and georgia. Thank you very much for the suggestion. Let's continue with more phone. Calls and tow is in birmingham. Go right ahead. Paul finebaum on her toe. We're doing great man. You good to talk to you about to know paul. What poll man. I'm gonna miss. You just say fan. I'm kinda salted about the game about the referendum way happening but at the same time boys in the been in that position to move. They gain weight d. to number four on the field. You know what. I'm saying so. You know i'm assaulted by there. But we're going to recoup against lsu lead Another thing is this all. They should've worn that game against Penn state I didn't like the play calling and alban over should won that game by online. But i also tell. Everybody is fine on the best game that i've seen. I have seen man that i saw saturday was fresno state and ucla. I'm all around college football fan so patriot and they were against it. So you know just just to meet with the best gang alabama. Florida was good. That was exciting gain ba- fresno state and ucla. That would have been the best game on saturday. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you very much. Appreciate it. Jenny in houston. You're on the air hello jenny hey thanks for taking my question. Hey i know you have a crystal ball. And i'm trying to figure out what you think might have might happen if molin will start playing anthony. Richardson a big florida. Gator fan I hated that he got injured. Hated and he wasn't available in Our last game against alabama. And so what do you think the future might hold if he can get in there and play and if he was able to play this last game. How do you think that game might have been a little bit different. I think if anthony richardson had only played on one play in the entire game. It could have made a difference. Because i think he he's he would have been hard to stop on the two point conversion Just did not like that. Call at all and richardson. I think would have given them a lot. More mobility an option on that play. I think it would have been. He could have had a difference Yeah it's it's a little bit hard to get to guess. He could have helped him in the first half. I mean i know. He was scheduled to play. The third series. Couldn't have been worse than we couldn't be any worse than what florida had. Hey thanks for the call. We'll take a break. We have jimbo fisher head coach and n they take on arkansas..

"Even stay late if you haven't gotten your calling. Thanks for being a part of the program. What a weekend and what a day it is to react. Let's get right to it. And then your phone calls here in just a moment. Alabama and florida. dan mullen alabama. I hope we play them really soon. Check the schedule. I don't see an opening until first saturday. In december could it happen maybe alabama was outrushed by one hundred fifty four yards in its win versus florida. It's second worst margin in fifteen seasons under nick saban. The only team with a larger margin was arkansas. Oh seven backfield included mcfadden felix jones and peyton hillis we. I'm going to save time. Because i want to hear from you. But i think everything that has been said speaks for itself about what happened in the swamp. I heard from a pretty prominent player From the alabama side yesterday and he said i didn't realize it was going to be that loud well yes it was that loud and it was deafening on all accounts and a pretty amazing performance by the florida gators. Meanwhile oh alabama want to Clemson ohio state slip in. Ap top twenty five despite wins. Yeah those are two programs that are heading in the wrong direction and with the blue bloods looking mortal. Is this a year for a big shocker. Pizza will joining us in a few minutes to on that might be most losses by rank teams in the first three weeks of the season. We'll welcome to twenty one. Next year was oh five sixteen had a bunch of ninety eight. We're only three weeks into the season. Big twelve they're doing okay. Esi pac twelve is not. Can't wait for the more alliance games so that number can even be worse. So there's so much react to over the weekend not only alabama but auburn going to happy valley The mississippi state memphis game. Yeah we're here for all your calls me while aggies up next for arkansas. Their average who said that who would dare say their average. We're playing very average. I mean i mean we're we're much more capable what we can do but doesn't potential doesn't potential is the worst thing you can have mean. Jane doesn't it. I hate to work potential. Somebody said you've got a potential to have a good tan drives me nuts. I mean. I'm not coaching right. And they're not playing right. We gotta get better and all those aspects and we got we gotta grow up across the board and everything. We do play with much more consistency as a team and learned to play off each other. Okay well we'll talk to jimbo fisher in twenty six minutes and get his take on the big razor by game pizza animal from yahu mcelroy on the alabama game and teo l. boys later on officiating. It was a story over the weekend. The sec releasing a few statements clarification mix up both in penn state and in memphis the memphis. Where have you heard about this. Just what we're going to show you. That's kind of hard to describe what let's let's video speak for itself memphis leading. Twenty one seventeen You kinda gotta give this guy credit. He just walked in there. So you know what i think. I'll pick the ball up all run. It ninety some odd yards and see if anyone notices. Nobody did until until after the game when the sec issued Multiple statements the sec. Officiating pr person was busy on saturday. Let's get to your phone calls. Eight five five two four two seven two eight five. We start with john in louisville. Hello john good afternoon comment some the gains and get your crystal ball thoughts on the playoffs. But i wanted to just complimentary on your interview with Or king last week. Grace and dignity Just so positive and Kinda stood in stark contrast to the usual suspect. Callers who liked the disparaging denigrate other callers. I mean he was just class for those who miss it Horace was part of a group Honored by the university of georgia on the anniversary of the those four breaking the color barrier in athens and He was spectacular. I'm glad you. I'm glad you Made mention of that so impressed by I wanted to see if alabama was good having played A band miami team in mercer there now and i was wondering good. Florida was while i was so impressed. Auburn impressed those were great gains in georgia. Look real you know. Well balanced I thought and so you know. I i'd like you. I came away with thinking. Well if all Clemson can get us two hundred and eighty four yards and Offense they're not much and always you gave up another five hundred yards in defense so and say look forward of course oklahoma. You know. I think oklahoma did one thing. They say the nebraska coach job for at least four weeks. So as i look ahead. Just you know. Just making some assumptions. I wanted to get your thoughts. I think alabama and georgia will run the table and one of the two will lose out the finals. And then i look at oklahoma and oregon Who have easy schedules. Oklahoma texas may have been there tough as a match. That's gone in oregon. Ucla been their toughest match. And that's gone so i see them being undefeated. So i see those is the final four although notre dame as bad as they are may run the table because of an easy schedule. But i totally see clinton issue out at this time with one loss record. Do you think it'll be a one loss team. In the final four notre dame will be out by the way notre dame runs the table. Don't don't sleep on their schedule. They have wisconsin this week in cincinnati. Next and i blew it. Then those are those are in you. Know i think notre dame has a pretty formidable schedule quite frankly With north carolina on there and stanford late. I mean they they really i. I will be surprised. Notre dame survives out schedule. But if they do. I would have no problem putting notre dame in i kinda some of those Teams because North carolina. certainly. Turn things around this weekend. And i forgotten about wisconsin. You're right paul by the way Cincinnati is a team That a lot of folks has a legitimate shot at getting into the playoffs. And if they can beat notre dame that is going to be one of the biggest wins ever for them. Hey thank you very much for the call. Eddie is in florida. You're on the air. Paul thanks for taking my call man. What a great game road damn tied a. What a great game in we. Hey let me just say this. I know you're gonna have a lot of college calling in panic involved. I am not worried about. We are good or right for we supposed to be neat. Hate to break it to you. But that's that's a pretty much the say delusional response there. If you take a good look at the way the alabama defense performed and coached opo april for some reason. You're breaking up which is a good thing to do right now but breaking his hard to do especially when you can't see the forest for the trees i'm not i'm not suggesting alabama's gonna lose. I'm just suggesting that they have issues and florida. Blue them up in those in those vulnerable issues that we had been told. We're no longer going to be there. They have some issues That need to be corrected or otherwise The eddie's of the world will be jumping off bridges. Soon we are heading to a break. Eight five five two four two seven two eight five. That is our number jimbo fisher bottom of the hour all aboard and what. What was the train that was supposed to be running through here today. The shane train. How's that doing..

"Espn dot com slash fantasy football for back sec media days on a day that began many hours ago with the arrival of vanderbilt in alabama and this afternoon mississippi state and say it seemed like just a normal wednesday immediate as until story came out of texas that said that the university of texas and oklahoma have inquired about joining the southeastern conference. So we just got through chat chatting about that with jimbo fisher coach ross. Bjork is here as well. The athletic director ross. Thanks for being here and tell us what you know about this and what you think. Well paul we were chatting off air a little bit. I came here to support our players. Marvin and kenyon and coach fisher. And just seen the media in a while. And i thought it'd be good to just get out and about in in the footprint and catch up with a lot of people in the industry and and i walk in and pretty much. The news was hitting as we were walking in the hotel and so i was caught off guard. Just like you're just like a lot of people here in in hoover were caught off guard and our position is look. There's a reason why we left the big twelve back in two thousand eleven and started in july first of two thousand twelve is that we wanted to have a standalone identity and the state of texas and all the turmoil that was happening in college athletics at the time and so the. Sec's been a perfect fit for us. And we believe that we want to maintain that that same identity. Perhaps there's a reason why texas and oklahoma are looking around. If that's the case. I think jimbo said it on the podium. Of course they do. They want to be in the. It's the best conference so there's a lot of uncertainty. I think right now in college athletics. So i think this type of story fuels that a little bit but from our perspective. We love being in the sec. We love being the only program in the state of texas. And we're gonna maintain that position but we're also going to make sure that we are a leader in college athletics and we'll see what the future holds even at two different schools in the you sat in these rooms for a long time and it is for the most part collegial group of athletic directors and headed by about commissioner. Sankey a i. I don't think you have a good answer for this. Because i've seen you you making the rounds here but have you had a chance to talk to anyone that is in a position to know more. I haven't. I've been running around a my phone. Obviously has been buzzing calls from lots of people call athletic directors around the country calls from other eighties within the commissioners sankey. And i will. We'll have a chance to catch up at some point in time..
'In Golf?': Nick Saban Responds to Jimbo Fisher Comments
"It seemed like every day. There's something about nick saban in the air. We had him the other day. Then jimbo fisher talking and now. Nick sabin has responded. He was in mobile alabama. Last night of speaking at my god for each team focus event and he decided to respond. Well he had no choice. She was surrounded by a group of media members to ask about jimbo saying that sabin was going down. So it's got to ask your friend. Jimbo said yesterday that Some quiet while you're in tuscaloosa. He was in a here but was nowhere that he used his. You have any response for a golf football field. Come a day but is that. What are you talking about football. Thank you was used to be almir. Noontime basketball league. I guess we're no longer partners to come to that. Because they have a really good team really good program and You know they're getting better and better all the time. And there's a lot of challenges in the sec. And they're certain one of them certainly one of the up and coming programs and he's always been a great coke to the great job for us when he was with us and he's had a great career as a head coach so You know it's going to be a challenge for us. No doubt when we them
Kansas splits with athletic director Jeff Long two days after parting ways with Les Miles
"Get you updated on what is happening in lawrence kansas. Where less mild was let go the other day and then this afternoon the man who hired him and presumably let him go has also been shown. The door crisslow joining us on that story and others. Chris thanks for the time. Always good to have you on and give us the latest. How did how did how did this happen. So quickly with jeff long. It's great to be with you. Always i I really felt like we heard the news about less miles that this was just it was going to happen with jeff law and just did not senior way. He would survive. I think what happened in a lot of donors a kansas at the end of the day. The president a chance to learn. Douglas giradi heard from several influential donors that they just did not want to be the guy to hire the next head football coach and i think when you look back sort of having all the down with less weight ended there that The more that they thought about it. And i think jeff athletics look long enough to know he said in a statement. Today was going to be a huge distraction more hung around and and they wanna make a clean break. Bring somebody else in to hire the knicks head football coach. Oh by the way they got issues the basketball program. Well they certainly do. And i saw her. Danny manning announced that he was a contender for the ad job. But as we. I don't know whether tennessee is the template but you do need an athletic director to get in there. Fairly quickly don't you. Yeah you don't the what's your proverbial tail wagging the dog. So yeah you gotta bring somebody else somebody. And it's going to be the ad someone that's that's gonna be the football coaches boss. I tell you name to keep in mind. Travis goff and northwestern we went to kansas undergrad. There how highly respected and sort of in the world. And he's a guy that you're going to hear a lot of push for from donors from influential people there k you to bring in to come in higher this the next head football coach. I think a guy will be certainly equipped to deal with. What's going to come their way on the basketball front as well talking to crisslow chris. Let me just take a step back and go back in time time to lsu and unless miles and after this information dumped the other day and learning much more about what happened down there and what didn't happen. I'm curious as a reporter who has covered so many scandals in so many so many big stories in college football just your your takeaway from from the progression of that program with with joe alita and less miles to to really where it is now and where does it go to try to clean up a rather tattered reputation. Yeah you think back to two thousand eleven ten years ago paul. Lsu's on top of the world now. Granted they lost alabama national championship. But that was a great football team In in a team that was is elite as it gets and now here. We are ten years later and they won the championship last year. But a lot of things off the field. A lot of things going on you know you. You always felt like there at the end of his tenured. Lsu that there was a lot of people. They're out to get him. When i say out to get him that wanted to move on. I just felt like they could do better. But as you know you know the sec. As well as anybody yeses. He thinks they can do better. Except for maybe in tuscaloosa And i think the some of the political forces around lsu sorta helpless. We're on his side to leave. Certainly it and four games the sixteen season they got it in. You heard jimbo. Fisher's name all sorts of aim. Tom herman the end up with a lot of people felt like that was never going to work with all the old winter national championship last year and really a great job assembling people going out and getting staff around in but now here we are off the field with this complete invested in investigation. As some of the way things have been handled with sexual assault domestic incidents going back before was head coach So you're right. There's there's a lot on their at lsu Just like kansas. You've got issues with the basketball team as well So it's It's a mess right now. We'll see where it all

He probably had that he was moving. I mean that was. He was probably a close second to divine chain on saturday. Night for fastest guy on that field.

Some early thoughts on Texas A&M's next season
"Talking Data Merton Berg Espn Senior Senior College football writer. Let's expand this a little bit on the SEC. Next year a lot of thoughts on on on the West. Lsu Shoe Obviously Alabama probably not going too far Who else do you see? Maybe making a run or do you see anyone making a run at least for the West I I again I think that you take 'em pay Jimbo Fisher. Seventy five million dollars guaranteed to do better than this. Now you've got two years To to get settled battled to to figure out the direction of the program. Now it's time to start competing they're gonNA have experienced. I think on both sides of the ball. They have some spots to fill defensively. I know you lost a couple of receivers to the NFL draft. But if it's not gonNA happen in your three. I think some doubts GonNa be setting in in college station that we we paid this guy all all this money to compete with the likes of certainly Alabama but also now LSU in Auburn when is when are we gonNA get a return on that investment. So I think there's GonNa be a lot of pressure sure on taxes and this is again a team that I think could make some noise on that side and then in the east. You're probably Georgia's Florida again and Georgia's fascinating fascinating because they have to close that gap offensively much like Lsu. DID UNDER JOE Brady and Steve Engineer George GotTa do that now under todd monk and their new offense

Jimbo Fisher Coaching Record
"Kevin someone to me just sold out that program for one player in that you, you know, better than I do that doesn't ever work no sedan. Not does not. And I think that I think coach Fisher was called it. The same problem at say totally agree with you on that of the quarterback there. He I I like, JIMBO Fisher. But I never understood that because Florida state was bigger than James Winston. It was much bigger. You know? It's not it's not about the person. It's about the institution. And about school. You know, you got to have you've got to put that for a you're going to be in serious problem. I

Jerry Jones says an 18-game NFL season would be better for players' health
"Of. Previously we were talking about the preseason and maybe cutting that down and changing and adding games of the regular season in the NFL because Jerry Jones talked about that earlier today on a radio station in. Dallas I'm not for. That I think adding to the regular season stupid if anything add to the, playoffs but the regular. Seasons. Perfect the way it. Is I have been. Since We are talking college football along with the NFL tonight the constable has, no preseason right they. Kind. Of they have their. Scrimmages against each other Half. The team plays the other. Half by the ones that kind of stuff right so I have, a there's a there's an origins podcast out there it's called the origins podcast they've been going into a deep dive into what makes Alabama, successful and what makes Nick Sabin in his prospects process. Successful interviews with bear Jones and Greg McElroy and saving himself and all this and Alabama. The ones practice against the ones in pads every day. Now I know you can't, do? That in the NFL because of labor laws or whatever What are. You, frowning upon labor laws I'm just saying it's your job to your job every day I'm just saying collective bargaining agreement whatever do your job So In, college they wear pads and practice top guys against top. Guys every single day, go. Preseason we're ready to roll every week is a playoff week at you can't tell me that if Alabama loses to Louisville on Saturday night that their season's over it's almost, over they might still make the. Playoffs but if how about, this if Washington loses to, Auburn Saturday, afternoon Washington season is, over they will not make the. Playoff, yeah I I can guarantee that that's for. Sure. Okay surgery for some teams every week is. Apply that's what make college. Football. Great but my point is that they don't have, preseason they make it work so you don't just. Need you don't need to just substitute games with meaningful. Games don't add to the regular season in the. NFL there's no need for. It you could take away two preseason. Games would you as a season ticket holder pay the difference if they just got rid of two games and they added like five bucks to each because now you're just throwing it down the. Drain you're not even attending these. Games you're Not going to the preseason so if the. Regular season games are a little bit more expensive but. You didn't have to coding co pay for the. Preseason that's fine I think. That's a fair trade would you even. Notice it if the I mean obviously you'd notice if they added ten bucks each ticket but if that offset the overall cost is the same what does it matter it doesn't you don't go. To the games anyway it doesn't. Matter So what difference? Does it. Make I agree but the owners would. Never agree upon All the other things those,
