The Orange and Black Insider Bengals podcast: Taylor-made
Everyone has going to Anthony Kazan's. And this is the orange and black insider Bengals podcast. We are. So happy to have you with us once again. And I guess officially we are onto I guess twenty nineteen. I mean, even though we've it's now February twenty nineteen. You know, Super Bowls behind it is now the twenty nineteen NFL season in we have lots of talk about including the hiring of Zack Taylor. And with me as always. John Sharon who gave me a great assist on this into young dot com website because I was having some issues with that. But John, how are you? New era of Bengals football has been uttered in. Yeah. You always carry the bag on here in in hiding the fact so my way at some. It's been an interesting twenty four hours, I'm wearing my banana hat because the Bengals seem to slip on banana in this past efternoon in the hours after Zack Taylor press conference. We'll get into what kinda mean by that. But it's it's mixed emotions. I guess because it's something brand new to us. It's something completely new to me. Because again, this is the first time I've been Bengals fan. Marvelous hasn't been the coach and it. Oh, that's that's just the big deal in in itself. And Taylor has a lot to prove now that these officials here in some of the early judge are getting made on, you know, the initial this isn't he is he will make a coach in balls billion tear the coaching staff in talk about a little bit about that. But it's it's it's a mixed feelings for me personally right now. And I guess that's good in bed. You know in kind of both ways a different era of Bengals football for sure. And. I mean, I guess we could just jump kinda right into it. Your thoughts on on Taylor when he was introduced as the Bengals head coach on Monday. Your thoughts on. How he presented himself? Obviously a stark contrast and a lot of different ways to Marvin Lewis, especially Marvin Lewis in loses later years. Your thoughts on how he presented himself? How he handled the media aside from I think you and I both got a funny tweet from a fellow listener that showed. Hit the airing the TV airing of it cutting. Of Taylor's press conference, but aside from that your thoughts on him how he presented himself, and you know candidate that young fresh approach may be that he brings to the Bengals. Yes. So when we were talking know last month about potential replacements for Lewis Taylor's name was obviously one of the name seals like he was the first guy that the interviewed. But most of the session was was surrounding the enemy, maybe even more so Todd machen, and you know in the the week leading up to Taylor getting hired. You know, he wasn't I guess a serious consideration. I guess because people mainly like preferred. But when talking about Taylor we discussed like the Bengals would not be interested in Taylor. Just because he is in the socio of Zach of John fakes use me things will be interested in Taylor because they think that he brings a similar mentality. Similar fresh mindset in values in cultural changes that McVeigh type co. Which would bring because McVay special because you know, there's no one really like him in the way that his mind is built around the game in his memory everything about this actual. So if Taylor was to be hired by the Bengals in the few severe, so heavily coveted by he would he would have had to have wild them in a similar way that McVeigh, obviously. While the Rams I think we kinda saw some of that on display in the introductory press conference in obviously that press conference in the south as breath of fresh air, not just because of anything specific he said, but just in the way of how it was so different than all this other marvelous prostate inferences, but I do believe that, you know, Marvin's first press conferences in general were kinda like that where he can brought this reinvigorated energy to snow stale time, but now this story station stale from from all years of him so tailored kinda brings that recent change. And that's exactly kind of a we were hoping to see him. You know, just hearing him speak for that half. Hour was definitely worth that weight and confirms will be kind thought about him and just just in general. He seems. Like like, the kinda guy beat had hoped a thirty five year old head coach, I had coached woods with sound. Like, you know, he sounds like he can carry himself. Very well. Even though he's never exactly been in this physician before. But obviously, he's he's well well wired grove in family, obviously had those similar ideals to the Brown family, obviously toban as well. It appears to both of them have Hannah connected in you know, obviously fans adore do token for the work that he's done under the under their strictures of the Brown organization. So if they can kind of get on the same page in the stabbing, you know, a process of billion illegitimate championship level team than this is obviously a great direction to go in. And most of the majority of things Taylor said from the most are was just coachspeak in operation be taken with a grain of salt, and what not some the little things. He's talked about communication and an attacking mentality. Kind of those different. Things would allude to the temporal alterations in how the Bengals will approach the off season may be. Season management ethic. That's definitely refreshing to hear in Duffy something that was well worth us waiting to hear. So with the Taylor higher came a lot of social media reactions from Bengals players high profile Bengals reactions. Do you buy that? They are the excitement that they are showing, you know, they kind of superimposed pictures of themselves next to Taylor. You know, what I mean like they like that? Basically, they took the Bengals. That kind of what they did on their official announcement superimposed pictures of themselves said like, hey, welcome coach all that stuff. Exhaust from Dunlap the south from Kirton from Draper, Patrick. I mean, he saw social media. Clips of Taylor greeting. Andy Dalton in the locker room, and that they seem to be very chummy. Do you buy do you buy that? Or is that simple towing the company line? You know, what I mean, where where these people these guys that are paid well by the organization, and they said, you know, I gotta do the right thing if you will and support the new coach some of these guys there's questions if Drake or Patrick's could be on the roster next year there are questions if you don't get to be on on the roster next year. I mean, do you do you buy that you buy the excitement or is that simple? Just kind of a I'm being a good employee doing what I'm supposed to do. I think dre earned the stuff elects on contract for do journey. Ilya. That definitely talk about that. But I think it's a little bit of both. Because like as we all know players Marvin Hughes the players coach through and through. And obviously they like like like, I think headed tweet, you know, he kind of held back. Some reservations, I guess for for you know, like, you know, what we'll see what philosophy brings in exactly display. Great amount of exciting. When you text. I think it was though you'll though BT reporter has anonymous guy, but for for for the other guys, I think, you know, even like the majority this team the core of this team has been around for a six or seven years, and even even then six years is kind of a longtime for head coach in the NFL sixteen years is such a anomaly in an outlying itself success years. It's kinda more even so on the long sides arguments was around for a long time for even the guys having hit thirty yet. So for those guys who are welcoming Taylor with open arms. I think it's a refreshing change even for them. Even if they weren't here for the majority of of Louis center for the most. Part of the guys who were with Louis in the two thousand zero gone except for maybe a couple of guys that maybe won't be on the team next year with expiring contracts. But I do think that there is definite, you know, relief some changes happening the guy that maybe most can relate a little bit more, obviously because not just the age difference. But a different type of coaching background philosophy. Because Taylor is obvious enough in some guy with enough it's background and probably a lot more in lot less conservative as a coach coming immediately than Lewis has turned himself to be six years on the job. So I think with those changes has farts this. This welcoming atmosphere from the players with Taylor because I think for the most part, you know, I don't think this whole rebuilds gonna take one year. I think a lot of familiar faces but will stick around for twenty nine to see kind of what they have. And you know this team in where they are in their vision. Probably will take two or three years to truly be competitive because everyone eighteen games in the pessaries. They're not contenders right now you can. Big argument that the divorce team they're on division, so swift at Santa think like like for now everyone's kind of on the same base the same playing field in level of job security, and the kind of you know, are welcoming this new change in what to do their best to get you know, to impress him to to slave. They have value for the next one or two years three or four years. Even even for those guys who have have yet to hit their thirties while not. So I think that there is a little bit of you know, got welcome the new guy even alike coach. But definitely a refreshing. A welcome change for most of those guys who are should be excited about a coach they can probably perform better under. We'll be utilized under the age. It green mentioned that he had his best years under Jay Gruden in that play option style offense. He mentioned that recently. And obviously that's something Zack Taylor is going to you would think bring to the bagels. Look, I mean. There. There are a number of people that are loyal to Marvin Lewis. Whether it's because he brought him in brought them in to the Bengals organization, drafted them, whatever. But I think there are a number of players that are, you know, more than ready for a change and more more than I mean Zack Taylor for the most part is he's barely older for better for worse barely older than many players on this roster. I I mean, I think he's older than all of them. But there I mean, you know, you got your Andy Dalton's, Gino Adkins, you're you're Carlos Dunlap said are, you know, early thirties or whatever. And they're they're right around his age gap. He's John Sharon, I'm Anthony. This is going to black insider Bengals podcast, and we are talking about the Zac Taylor higher as the Bengals new head coach, you can get this program on IT, Stitcher. Google play on megaphone and on cincy, jungled comments wells, are our YouTube channel check that out. John one of the questions, I guess in. The the Taylor higher is, you know, who made the decision who, you know, who was kind of that the people who pulled the strings if you will in order to get him hired, Mike Brown and his introductory press. Conference of Taylor. Kind of measure, basically, the Duke Tobin is the guy who. Brought who headed up the coaching search. He brought up a lot of candidates. He headed up the interviews all that kind of stuff in. He was the guy that brought in Zack Taylor if you will. Yeah. He hasn't been named GM in official title. But I mean for all intents and purposes that's his job. There's a lot riding on this higher. Right. I mean, this is the first new coaching higher in the Duke Tova era. This is the first new coaching hire in, you know, basically in sixteen seventeen years since Marv Lewis is come in. And it's young it's risky. He's overhauling the staff all that stuff. I mean is it fair to say the Duke Tobin, basically, his job is writing on this higher and he's been here for so long. Because obviously they wanted to keep the lose through kind of tech and he came along with Louis, but that's that's an interesting point. Because you know, you talked about just job securing general the Bengals with those guys in the front office. You never really questioned that. But if this was entirely a or majority part a token move in do toes reason, why Taylor was so well liked within the Bengals brass impressed so much. If those comments were were basically alluding to in. Ultimate meaning that do Tobin was impressed by this than. Yeah. I do think that as right now that they're connected. That's the reason why he was behind those microphones for the introduction press conference alongside with Taylor in Mike Brown in general, but this is still like Brown, and it's kind of ridiculous. Like, Paul the Jews on Twitter light. You know, do Tobin is GM in in everything. But name why does he have the name though? Right. But might my ground is still who he is. And he's just never gonna change in. If there's any if there's any time where he's gonna bubbly giveaway power in a move such as edges naming took Jimmy says nothing to do it. No matter what he's gonna go to go to the grave with those values set in stone. But essentially do token is does have more pal kinda known this for the past years had more influence in the war room in influence in bringing guys in retaining guys in in the offseason in general. But now this this this was his first opportunity to kinda really reset the franchise bring in new voice leadership. In if they were trusting token to kind of find that that kind of also concludes the other point that, you know, the the black rains are also kind of overtaking Brown from power standpoint. And obviously both trying Katie Ed obvious influence on this hires. Well, but they also I think have a certain brain trust in cohesion with Tobin in their civil values in philosophy. So it's kinda that four person brain trust of the front office with Mike still overseeing things still not wanted to publicly give power in not giveaway any levers of the as eighty something years old. But at the same time, this is kinda do tokens era of this. Wherever Zack Taylor goes do token goes we all know, how big of a leash town does have did simul to your contract. But this is Louis now. So this is all new game in this is a whole new ballpark of boss of possibilities for they're not halo succeeds or fails, you know, what's kind of the repercussions of mid may be something bans in so something. Good in. That's gonna be something trusting wash. Does it frustrate you that? I mean, like I said for all intents and purposes do CTO Vanessa GM. Mike Brown continues to hold these annual press conferences and to to both Mike Brown's credit and detriment. He's not Jerry Jones type of owner where he hogs the microphone. He's he odds. The you know, the the limelight. But in that way, he he also doesn't he is not able to clarify a lot of things he has hinted over the past couple of years that hey, you know, basically, it was Marvin his daughter son-in-law and Duke Tobin that have kind of run the show in terms of decision making he kind of said as much again with his act Taylor hiring that it was Duke Tobin's, call they supposedly interviewed nine people. According to Mike Brown. I mean, does this frustrates you? He's like dude do tokens. Yeah. He's he's not saying that right? I mean, we can sit here and say for all intensive purposes, but still. He's not saying it. He's not giving him the title. Does that fresh to me? I'm sitting here going, dude. Just just tell us, right? Just say the GM like an some people quite like senior citizens the babies in terms of stubbornness or legs just point. And I think that's basically what we're doing because e selling grade in his ways, he's he's not gonna change in this just isn in whenever you want progress from someone who just will not change in a certain point is life is just pulling teeth from innovatively when push comes show and butts are in seeds in he's going to make necessary changes, obviously appeased mass in this case. I think we're gonna have to wait a little bit longer for token is officially given that title, but it doesn't it doesn't really matter. But it's still kinda matters. I guess that's the the point that you're making were you know, if he's GM, but it just won't happen with with guidelines. It's he's he set in his ways in a, you know, who knows maybe it is he's eighty three maybe it is an appeasement type of maneuver by some of these other people in the front office said look, he's still here. He's still kind of the owner. Where calling the shots. It doesn't matter. What the titles are what? Or whatever. This is our regardless it does sound like this is a Duke Tobin higher and not a Mike Brown higher. So. You kinda have to sit here and say, well, you know, they're obviously every every one of us who have been fans for a long time. Look back to David Shula and say, oh, you know, young guy and. That's where this higher is heading. But. This doesn't seem to be the guy that Mike Brown. Pull the trigger on this seems to be the guy that Tobin signed off on in the other powers the be signed off on regardless of title. Yeah. And going back to pulling teeth like, yeah. Like Mike allowed do tokens to hire a head coach is allowed to spend money in March. Yeah. Like that s the next that's the next step of if token is truly in charge earn lessees dislike like the king. The hand of the king is still kinda pulling the strings Joffrey entitled Thailand Lancaster out. We don't know that yet. And we will know that in game of thrones reference. Everybody in case, you didn't know. Okay. Doesn't want thrones. But but but anyways. Yeah. Like who's who's truly pulling the strings because those of us who cannot afford HBO or something, I guess are the people I don't pay three. Pretty sure not a lot of people do either. But anyways that that people say teams don't soup teams don't win or lose more for this is not the case. Maybe this the Bengals still people, but you win in this league now by spending money now they spend money on presumably a hotshot young head coach. Let's go out and get get some quality free agents in more than just one on one year. You know, rental deal like they have the fabulous actually do something that matters in March when you're building a championship team, which is presumably what Zach to that wants to do. We'll see that happens. Dionne DT s in the live YouTube shots as if this in all caps, by the way, if you if you say something in all caps, you know, you know, that person's meaning business if this turns back to the shouli years, I'm moving. So there you go. Fill your house. Well, that's not lie decision. That's Dion Dionne decision. But. You know, there was something that I thought Bengals fans. Should. If you want to say, you know, gravitate towards the Bengals or endear themselves to Mike Brown, or whatever. But he basically said, and I don't know if this is a slippery slope or not, but he basically said. They felt the effects of fan. Ticket sales probably letters they received whoever are whatever. That this decision to move to act Taylor was basically based off of that. They they heard they felt the reverberations of fan reactions especially late last year and the possibility of Marvin Lewis retiring, and they said we have to make a move. What do you make of that? John. Well, I think it'll kind of lead into another topic that we're talking about. But at the end of the day, Mike, those care about making money, however, much, you know, of that revenue comes from the twenty thousand tickets that weren't selling towards the end of the year. I don't know. But obviously, I think at this point in his life in his time as the owner he seeing a decision that he made a long time ago in this. He didn't make it over the past seven eight years when it was when it was ripe to move on from Marvin Lewis by Maya unwillingness to do something that I probably shouldn't on the past kind of finally catching up to me. If I want to, you know, do the thing that I'm telling people that want to build a Super Bowl team. I can't have you know, I can have this leadership into new year or otherwise, I'm not gonna sell any tickets because I think it Marvin Lewis in back when they will not have sold more than thirty thousand season game like the here. Honors like, it would just be half filled. Most hersher in if blackout rules didn't exist. Now, it just wouldn't be televised on TV in that wouldn't be good for anything at any even for someone who has been this way stubborn is my ground. That definitely I think's Sunday message in everybody has a breaking point people may have may not often Mike Brown, Ben. But at even three years old, he showed he Camden and into the to to the Dave Shula point. I think that if Zakia does diffuse he's not gonna be your for six years. I if you've missed you can swing again in that goes for quarterbacks as well when you're trying to trying to establish the two most important things for football team. That's head coach in quarterback. And if they don't work you don't have to be stuck there for too long where where it'd would be too late for the rest of your team. You can you can go ahead and try again, that's that's that's something a lot of fancy to understand where if you do higher Schule you won't be off. Medically put into twelve years of misery gin. And if you it exactly does mediocre, you won't autumn actually have six years of him. Again. Those are those are mistakes that remain the past thing even for a team like the Bengals day have a certain level of evolution and learning from their past mistakes. Even if it's a slow as they are those stakes are learned from even for organizations that aren't as competent as others. You have to give Mike Brown a little bit of credit because he was asked a question about Marvin Lewis during the introductory press. Conference of Zack Taylor. He, you know, I mean, not that most people would do this. But he had an opportunity to kind of take shot Marvin Lewis or say, this is wise activities. The guy in Marvin Lewis is not he he basically took the higher road and said this is I'm not going to take this opportunity to slight Marvin Lewis. I'm not I'm not going to do it. Mark, you know, in in that shows mar Mike Brown's. Loyalty and its loyalty to a fault. Right. I mean, we we've said that too. He has a hard time getting rid of certain players. He endeared himself to player certain coaches, whoever and for better for worse. He's like, this is my guy and. You know, I think that was probably a little bit of the scenario Tamar with Marv Lewis in finally it was like it's time. Whether it was the pocket book affect or what have you? He kind of said, I just can't do this any more. It can't have. And I think that's the same thing with like a players when they were, you know, other excited about Taylor or they're more like none of this players with with speak ill of Morgan most than realized that the chains needed app in for for the betterment of their crews for the organization like the no one should really have any ill outs Morgan Lewis. When you look it from an overall standpoint, obviously could have ended better, and you could add more opportunities for legit champs to Brunson there. But at the end of the day, he was still a decent coach in just a decent human being in someone that was ahead value in the organization in Agassi was a close friend to anyone associated with sixteen years. So it was definitely good move. Bye by Mike to stand behind him and not take the opportunity to to buy his. Worse aspera, Jim. But also, I don't think there was a reality Micron would ever do that. Because if you show loyalty to someone that long thinks it's change in instant were your whole perception of pain on someone just just completely alters because you know, drastic changes happen. So it was good. Bye, Mike, but I didn't really expect him to do anything different. Yeah. In this is I mean. It is what it is. And. This is something now where they've they've hitched their wagon to Taylor. And that's that's where they're heading immune. It's you mentioned you mentioned something about, you know, we'll see if this changes free-agency or the approaches there, it's going to be very interesting to see what what kind of sway if any and if that's that is his sway that he wanted that the hill he wants to die on so to speak in terms of Taylor. You know, free agency all that stuff. It's gonna be interesting to see if he's the guy that kinda has more sway in that sort of thing. And you know for those who are saying yes about Taylor. Young offensive minded gets the majority of angles fans, and you should be feeling that way, you have to also recognize that, you know, even if he does make certain changes, it's based off of the foundation the Marvin Lewis built. He had his flaws. He had his this. And that, but Marvin Lewis saddest and'red, Mike Brown budged in ways that he had not budged in for long time. And you have to hope that that Taylor than says. Okay. Marvin Lewis laid this groundwork. I'm now now we have to move here here here here here these positions we have to look at you know, maybe it's different quarterback. Because Dalton Louis were attached to the hip, whatever. But you have to sit here and say, okay, you know, Taylor may be can build off of what Louis did. Yeah. And if you allow me to make a radical analogy here. Oh, as an econ major I happen to learn about the six ages communism and how China release through themselves in the twentieth century when I believe is in the mid the mid twenty century when they try to skip capitalism on the way to communism and in the suffering in ended up going twenty years behind the rest of the world in terms of of economic development and what happened in nineteen eighties. Is that hey on the way on the way going to communist because capitalism, and that's just no way. No in win against the home, by the way. Right. This is not great. So what what happened was that? China's like, hey, we're gonna backtrack a little bit because we skipped important step on the way to go into where we need to go ended up. You know, creating economic surge boom in the nineteen eighties in now, China is worthy are because because of that for for the Bengals in this case, they ended up in the dirt in the nineties. Oregon. Those brought him to stage two in this case. Nets mediocrity. This the opportunity for them to go to stage. Stage three which is legit contending Taylor. Ends up being that guide in the process over twenty something years finally worked and they can have their hands on that in. If it doesn't work again swing again, go find the next guy. This is the orange black insider Bengals podcast. He's john. Sharon. And in case, you didn't know he is much smarter than I am because he is in econ major. I was a lowly history policymaker myself. So he is on. Maybe sort of kind of at any rate. He is a much smarter man than I am a many levels. John, Sharon, I'm Anthony Kazan's e can get this show on itunes Stitcher on Google play and megaphone YouTube since each Ogle dot com. Get the show. Hi can. I mentioned last week just kind of a little sidebar. I just want to. I'm still stoked on it. We are seeing record number a record number of downloads in everything on this program. And I am super excited about it. And again, it's it's probably due to the addition of my far superior intellect co host, John Sharon in his great following that he has on social media. But 'Save tongue-in-cheek literally, John you've been an awesome addition to this show. I can't thank you enough. I can't take our our listeners enough based on some of the. You know, some of the numbers don't lie. Right. I mean, I it just hasn't been killing it in. It's it's crazy. And I also wanna take this part part of the reason why some of the the numbers have been great have been because we have also had Tyler Boyd on the show twice in the last month. We just had him on again last week. And yeah, I mean there there's a propensity of sometimes interviewing the same guy in a month, especially in the off season, you know, kenniston. No. Would you you know, he's an interview we should interview him every month, which is regular thing. Yeah. You know, I tried to make it a little different. I did a little lightning round with him. And all that kind of stuff. If you have not heard Tyler speak. If you have not heard the interviews, whether it's with us or other outlets that he has reached out to he's very very nice young, man. He is a very humble young guy in I tell you just in the in the little interaction of had with him. He is a guy that is very very excited about this activity hiring. He seems to really like being Cincinnati Bengal. Even though he's a Pittsburgh native will keep that under wraps. But he seems he seems to be a guy that really likes being Cincinnati Bengals he likes what has happened. He he relishes his breakout year last year. So we've been fortunate talked to him recently a couple of times, hopefully, you have seen that interview or those interviews and enjoy them as well. But our thanks just aside from all of the listener. Who've been downloading the program are also Tyler Boyd, John. Unfortunately, were not there when we were able to interview him, but I'm sure you've heard them in. He is he's a stand up guy. He truly is. So Anthony, yes, things of hearts coaches. I was gonna go there. And I let's go there. Okay. So. I know you've got a lot to say about this. So I wanna I wanna put the ball on your court there. But yeah, tell me about some coaches that you have seen and. Near thoughts. I guess on some of these guys. Let's go ahead and read. Zack Taylor said in his press conference about finding coaches, and I quote, what we're looking for a great teachers concise communicators outside the box thinkers and people who are not afraid to deviate from the norm. We're in the process of organizing, a great coaching staff that you guys would be very proud of the players are going to be excited to play for. So I think it's pretty obvious. This point that Taylor wants to surround himself with associates former associates of him in his tenure, very young coaching career. One of those well-known associates is Jim Turner who he for the past three years has been the offense of line coach for Texas. Am for that. He was also with Texas stadium in two thousand eight to two thousand eleven the first four years of activities, which is a grad assistant and when Taylor moved to Miami Dolphins twenty twelve Turner follow him as the off. Of line coach just so happens that when turn it was there. So was two guys named bridging company. Do Jonathan Martin think we all know what happened with with those two and the. Yeah. Is a bullying scandal. That incognito started in pulverized verbally more for how long and Turner into the game fired for because he was complicit in the process and also partook in said bullying of Johnson Morton who just as past year was shown on Instagram with a threatening caption in a picture of guns towards his former teammates because for some reason. Bullying does have a mental impact on those victims and can deteriorate their minds, and they're gone. So psyches so Turner ended up suing the investigative report that got him fired because he couldn't work for some reason after his reputation was stained because he was a known complicit bullying as a coach. But then he got a job back in Texas. They now in twenty sixteen and then in his first couple months yet a coaching clinic for women's their end in coaching clinic. He made some very inappropriate and sexist remarks and comments about offense Lampley, if you can somehow somehow even comprehend how that would be involved there. Both regardless Turner end of working there for the next last years now is the replacement Frank Pollack that quote that too said applies to nothing that Jim Turner is. And I know that he entail has worked for many years. And I'm sure Taylor knows very well. But how the hell does Zack Taylor? So a Jim Turner higher after saying what he said the press conference. I waver on this because I'm sure there's another coach that you're gonna talk about that has issues. I, you know. I waver on it in the fact that. Off unless you're Paul Alexander. Who was also in assistant head coach slash offense of line coach the overall responsibilities in the overall level of. I don't know what you want to call it the overall level of accountability or name of title, or whatever. Offensive line. Coach to meet isn't scream. There. You know, doesn't scream high profile coach doesn't stream that this is the guy is going to be the face of the franchise doesn't scream any that stuff. We've also seen the Bengals have some redemption stories in terms of tank Johnson in terms of Adam Jones in terms of some other guys that have come in here with all kinds of terrible pasts and have come in here and. Made made themselves viable themselves relatively good contributors to the team and an have helped team turn into winners. I do not condone anything that is in Turner's past. I also have not been in any of the rooms or anything. In terms of people associated with him. And or what his reasoning behind some of this behavior is so I can't fully speak to it. If I'm going to try and at least somewhat back him, which is hard. But I also, you know, some of the stuff I have seen under his watch and everything I can't condone. I can't you know. I I go why why why you know, the quote unquote, good oh boy mentality or the football guy mentality. It doesn't it just doesn't work today. It just doesn't that would that? He may fall back on. I don't know. I think on one hand this is a little bit overblown in terms of fan. You know, he fan behavioral little bit or fan reaction. But at the same time, it's also I get it. You know? I mean, this is supposed to be a new era. This is supposed to be a new regime in all of that. And Taylor literally says like you like you just said, John he literally says, you know, we're looking for this type of personality straight laced people XYZ Anna day lesson today after its. It's not the people are targeting for critical positions are not of that ilk. And that's a little disappointing. So it's kinda like, you know. Are these things that are going to go the way of taint Johnson Adam Jones, or is it going to be what bit him in the butt for so long in the mid two thousand late two thousands in terms of character issues. Same old bangel 's quote, unquote, in in everything else, and are these the type of people that are going to define this act Taylor regime in a negative way. And I hope not. Yeah. And like to play devil's advocate to play devil's advocate. I guess with tank Johnson jumps fluids. Like if listen what made him such a unique coach was that. He presented himself as a father figure. I some players who ended the game trouble thirty five in. I think. Yeah. I think Turner's like in his late forties or maybe maybe fifties. Now, like, obviously killer is not gonna look over Turner as in the in the same manner, and you know. Appoint that we talked about with Taylor potentially billion. His staff was bringing in veterans that he could therefore lean on to handle some leadership responsibilities in different groups in general aspects of running the team, and you know, we talked a lot about that with potential defensive coordinator hiring. And when we talk about Bill Callahan. That was another thing that we that we discussed because Kellyanne has with Taylor as head coaching college in kinda lean on him in terms of game playing in the run game. Overall, designing the structure of the offense. And now we have to candidates soon. That's gonna be what Turner's responsible for as well, not only just, you know. Refining techniques office lung, but implementing to- scheme and having a significant responsibility there at the end of the day, the Bengals record will not be dependent upon turns koshen billion, by the way. He's not even that is resume doesn't really bode well for him as his line coach at the professional or college level, regardless, you know, mine main reservations for this is just he's just not like I can safely say that. He's just not the kind of guy that you want to bring in at all for for any type of coaching, you know, for any type of of team structure with whoever's the head coaching the over is leadership of that team. In this case, it's a young first time head coach in your brand. The guy with ample experienced as often line coach who has experienced working with him. But also, he's not gonna be Taylor's this committee figure yet where he can assert leverage in power over his assistance at the very early stages of his career. He's gonna be relying upon them to end a lot of some of the. Game and in scheme commission, responsibilities in turn is gonna have a heavy handed that and we have, you know, a guy with his history in way in his conduct in how he treats in handles player interaction than just overall player development is the major pause for concern for me, and he's going to have to work extremely hard to make sure that anything that he's the will not be indicative of what can happen future. Yeah. I mean for me, it's kinda like do you reside in the camp of I question? I now questions that Taylor's decision making capability by bringing in people like this. Right. I mean, it's it's Turner's a questionable character. He I don't know. Personally, you probably don't own personally. He might be a swell guy at home. I don't know. Right. But there are things that point to him not being a great human being and. That it's a balancing act is that Zach Taylor now has to do. It's I'm a first time head coach I'm going to bring in people that I think are capable head coaches as well as people I trust, and these are people that. He has connections to Aubrey pleasant is another guy is why that yes, he's connected to. So he is familiar with them. There's the nepotism I guess aspect of it. If you will. But you have to save your go Kate while DEA sit here and say, okay, he knows Jim Turner. Well, and he knows him. Well, enough to be a guy that says, you know, what that's what he's what he's been raked over the coals for rightfully so is not really who he is. And he's a good football. Coach a good person. I'm gonna hire him regardless of fan backlash or. Is it PR damned? And you know, I'm gonna get the best coach. I mean, it's kinda like what what what are you? What side of the scale, do you balance more the relationship aspect, or you know, PR stuff, and Jim Turner brings a lot of PR nightmare, especially kind of the current landscape of things he brings a lot of a brings a lot of baggage to a team that really doesn't need it. If if for the UT veers, sorry, I can live like one of those guys woods protection 'cause think fuses blew my house my lifespan out, but to your point. I. Shocked. The answer your question. I I understand the logic Turner's hiring because you know, Taylor wants to have the guys that he trust the most and present. Yep. Like Saint to say that you know, he's worked with Turner for a decent out. I'm actually almost terminals follow Taylor universi- natty twenty sixteen by he backed out of the job to return to Texas A&_M. So I get the logic you because if you're gonna be relying on these guys so much you wanna have guys that you trust that you've worked with before? And that you think you can manage a certain way because you have that experience with them. It doesn't have to appreciate or accept the logic. I understand it. Because like just mean just mean general I don't want people like this part of the socio with a team that I associate myself with because it is because he's just because he is who he is. And in there's a certain point where like, you know, there is a Redan. Possibility. But we're talking about a guy who is a sickly. He is disappointed. It's not just nicely incidence. Multiple instance that presented to be a trend, and we wanna talk about potential dentists should the Friday talk about that before he sued the report that got him fired and basically proclaimed his innocence than display any type of remorse or any type of understanding of of the Rabti of action. So at this point, I think we can just accept he is he isn't just have to hope for the best that none of those problems also to the Senegal's in any major way where it would be a detriment in. 'cause you similar instance in the future. Yeah. In like a fan standpoint like Bengals ownership and everything. Okay. Over there money worried about other leg. I mean, like mangoes ownership fan fans are going to have to sit here and say, you know, what the team trusted enough to hire Zack Taylor. He obviously presented some form of a plan. Whether it's system coaches Ross or both. You came up with some sort of plan that said, this is what I have for you guys and everybody signed off on it. Maybe Jim Turner was a name that was thrown around AB. He wasn't. But. You kind of have to think like. If a guy like Jim Turner in history. It's going to be brought into the Bengals you have to you have to think Zack Taylor said this is a guy I'm thinking of bringing in it had to be known. I don't think this is prized anybody in Bengals management now with you like it as a fan, or what whatever I mean. That's that's a different story. But you have to figure the bagels knew about it. And this is part of a plan. This is probably plan that he gave to the Bengals management when he was interviewing for the job. And they probably have some sort of. Plan for potential fallout with something like this. I don't know. But it is disappointing. It's not somebody who's being who's being given a massive amount of responsibility in terms of title. It's kind of a lateral move. If that makes anybody feel better about anything at all. No. But. I mean, he still being being given probably a big opportunity as we go forward. And then. John. I think you were the one on its juggle dot com. Who wrote the piece on a nose Jason Margaret, it wanna interview Aubrey pleasant? I don't know if you have any additional thoughts on that aside from Jim Turner in in all of that. But basically it shows that. Jak Taylor's leaning on his Rams connections. Right. I mean. Yeah. Like, the bagels are buying into becoming the Rams essentially because. Is that Taylor is because because he said 'cause they said like are you are you going to bring any like like Shami as often Soviet news? Like it works. Right. So like us going to the base of of what we do amount. Gonna be exactly like, Sean McVay. But if you're bringing in offense that is a version of it or an evolution of than. I guess this is the this is the equivalent of branded version of the weight Phillips type defense feels he worked under Phillips as secondary coach. And in this bio, actually, look up just before the show is like it was similar to how McVay said that Taylor's is a a significant part of our third Deng game planning and unlike it was a plus by said, he's a significant part of of weight Phillips's over okay plane. So it's kind of like that at similarity there in that in that congruency between the two coaches, so yeah, I think this would be a decent higher because he has easily is also a young defensive and he's obviously worked under a great defensive line in Wade Phillips. So if you're one implementing genie. Muscle implement the team that manage the Super Bowl in probably should've a patriots. If they had a better quarterback. Well, yeah, we've got we we've got a lot more to get to on this show. I wanna talk about that in just a second. Before we get to the Super Bowl and all that kind of stuff. We do have a a caller on the line. It is our one of our regulars Terrell, Terrell. This is Anthony Kazan's with the black insider Bengals podcast. How are you, sir? Good. Good, man. What's on your mind tonight? This one just, you know, very excited about new of change folly. He was talking about just the wages sharp focus making people kind of about who it is. Superstars or create is what they say coupla internal days. This already on the on screen. I believe that. I believe that. They say down the y. Blacking say not not Jesse based. But. Sean williams. Shower. I shall we was the best lab that on things issue. We already know thirty no hardly negative for you. And and many right? You know, as we give him we coming along the law. But if you put a fifteen more pounds on on on him, and I'm trying to tell you. Remarried me, you don't try to eat with that. He's claiming remarried Joe but a little twenty pound back. Another thing. I know we always saying we try to get his or Jason somewhere. So I wonder that get trade. But I was there about a player, I feel it. We don't really use real how we should be made a change, but Giovanni but NAR on. On him. And they're like that. But we might you Trump's someti- conversations for a second the heard form that could do offals. Awesome will throw we're going to answer your questions off the air. Appreciate the appreciate the calls always my friend and thanks for tuning in. And we pre she'd we we appreciate your loyalty to the program. I friend our him out that. How go podcasts anything's going on? Just just I'm trying to sell my friends about your area. It will chance. I get jammed parts. Not really. I appreciate it. And you know, we do this. We do this for people like yourself. So we appreciate that. And we appreciate your your loyalty to the program. And and viewership all that good stuff. Preciado it, man. We'll talk to you next week. First of all, that's awesome. That you mean, he's spread the word about the. There's a couple of things Terrell said that I thought was that resonated actually spoke to my brother last night a fellow Bengals fan. We talked Budgie Vanni Bernardin. We we said, you know. We didn't we didn't go the route Terrell did with him in terms of trade bait we went the other way and saying Zack Taylor's probably a guy that can get the most geo Bernard. I think you know, I think back to the eagles. And I'm thinking back to Andy Reid as something. You know, the eagles have been a pillar of a team that has used running backs in. A number of affective ways and have done. So. That have helped the team. And I think that that's probably what Taylor is going to do with with the Bengals NGO Bernard. I think I think Joe mixing establish himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL last year, and I think you can use geo Bernard maybe a kick returner. Maybe it's a special teams guy, and obviously third-down slash utility back. And I think that the Bengals need to go back to that. Yeah. You mentioned the eagles. Imagine using Bernard is Brian Westbrook. Brian whisper or even? There's foles. That's the other one. Yes. Yeah. Like, there's like the last four or five years of you were not as been, you know, simple inside Ryan's than just a swing past the outside blown up in point two seconds because dumb telegraph throw completely ridiculously and you have guys like Alvin Kamara running Texas option routes out of the backfield in making linebackers. Look silly in just wonder view, Brian Bernard's, not that much different of nasty than you know, some of the other great pass catching backs in the NFL on. They paid like a a inexpensive, you know, rotational back in should probably use this Tyrrell's the other point shot Williams watching the patriots in the charges in the postseason just lay down the season. There those are two defenses that don't abide by the traditional roles of NFL defenses. And the us a lot of guys who you could classify as third level defenders as you know, box defenders run defenders in general that can straight over the top just use that explosives in speed closer to the line of scrimmage, the better in making those impact John Williams, that's his strength. And that's why I think he was kept over a gal George I look to play alongside Jesse base to play more in inside the box. I don't think the bulk up to twenty twenty. It'd be a good line linebacker because a good linebacking NFL's. Now what it was ten years to go in and you can use guys all over the field in all over the box. Now have to worry about them getting clogged by seconds lockers, you can use how the patriots use some other safeties in how they can just disguise some of their priests. That looks rather really take advantage. Be more effective defense. That's something that hope we see. Yeah. You know, it's it's interesting because, you know, Sean, if you talk about Sean Williams, specifically, Sean Williams was the guy that that is not coming into the NFL draft was the guy hasn't covered at the college level. You know, he was Nevada in the box safety and all that kind of stuff in you're like, okay. Well, you know, what are the Bengals going to do with with this kind of guy? And he to be honest with you the guy at like five interceptions last year. So I mean, the guys turned his career around in his supposed- week spots. The guy has turned his career around in a in a really big way. But I agree with kind of what you're saying John in terms of today's NFL landscape. What teams need what you know. I mean, you look at the Rams in Michael Roby? Right. A kind of a tweeter guy. They had marked baron. Another guy who's been a tween guy a Twitter die. You know, maybe maybe that's where the league is heading. Maybe that's where the Bengals are heading terms of, you know, they need to have these guys that have the size of a bigger safety, but can tackle in and are able to play in space like some older, linebackers and. You know, that might be that might be whether heading we'll see but great call from Terrell. We've got another call on the line from another regular John from Kentucky. John. How are you, sir? Guys getting tonight. Yeah. Gonna have on. Yeah. Love your podcast as always, you know, John Sharon was talking minute ago. Something about China and communism. Yeah. I thought communism. Let's see communism. Started in Russia. Why did that start? Well, let's see they had a Royal family that it's been in power for three hundred years. Let's just cut to the chase time for for them to go. Okay. No, not a communist. But this is the last are they had was just making decisions on things. He had no knowledge of it was time for him to get lost. Anyway, we kind of have wanted Cincinnati for six teen years and it was ago. That's kind of what I got out of that. So I am very confident Zach Jaber. And if he doesn't do well, I agree won't be here. Sixteen years. We'll move on from him and two or three years. Who knows I hope we don't end up like the Browns where were, you know, kicking people out every other year, but at the same time, you know, the team is in nowhere near the condition. It was when Dave Shula took over. We have our own stadium or not in trouble with the IRS offer didn't just pass away on us. We're in pretty good shape. I think we're going to be five. Well, that's. Gotta tell you normally from from other callers that cigarette say, lak-, whatever, but you. I've seen a lot with this franchise. You have seen. You've experienced a lot. You have you have been through a lot with this franchise. So I would I take your word for it. John before we get you off the air here. Your your take on Drake her, Patrick, and I don't know. I I don't know how big of a social media guy you are. But your take on Drake ERC Patrick sticking up for a guy who I know, you know, in our in our conversations, the guy, I know you who has been in your personal doghouse. A guy who stuck up for the Bengals franchise guy who stuck up for Bengals fans everywhere in terms of what Jeremy hill recently. Some some recent Jeremy hill remarks, I I would be very interested to hear what you have to say about drinker Patrick on that regard. Well, I don't follow Gregor bedrick. He's not my favorite. So you would have to you'll have to educate. Okay. Well, basically, Jeremy hill as you know, is on the patriots and was injured. I gotta educate John. This is a good segue to another thing, we're gonna be talking about anyways. So it's good. But basically Jeremy hill member of the patriots did not do. Not play meaningful snap with with New England on his Instagram page, basically took a shot at Bengals fans saying imagine being a bangles fan today. While while if video of it while he was obviously engaging in the patriots parade festivities and all that kinda stuff and Drake her Patrick fired back on the same social media platform, saying imagine, something something effective. I wouldn't want to win a championship trophy. If I didn't play meaningful snap. Yeah. Exactly. And have forgotten Jeremy hill fumbling the ball in the playoff games that when she nobody referring to that. Nobody has. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean vervet just intercepted the ball. There's a minute and a half web. What is Jerry veal it gives it right back to Pittsburgh alive? You know? I mean, and you Jackson put him in and hill had been prone to fumbling here they bench team several types for that. Why you wouldn't trust birkhead for such little time on the clock before you would Jeremy hill birkhead or Bernard Benard or exactly what just happened the ask leaning hat, and it says it and he should've happened after that game. And it should've happened after the charges game years before. So. Going back to the Russian thing. It was just time for some people to go. Who are one hundred percent, correct? Thanks, john. We're gonna we're gonna get you off the air here. I appreciate you calling in listening. Always my friend. Hello. I'm Spencer hall from SP nation. And I want to tell you about my new show. It seemed smart it seems smart as a show about people doing things that for some reason or another seem smart at the time. Those things might include doing a little cocaine and driving a bike up a mountain or I don't know maybe racing one hundred miles per hour across the country in the middle of the night with no one's permission or even stealing a bat from an empire is room in a major league baseball park, check it out. And if you like it Tele friend, I'm Spencer hall, don't do anything smart. John from Kentucky. Great calls always end as a as a history guy. Like, I mentioned earlier in the show. You gotta love that bit this. We used to have a segment year. John John from scaring clan. John from deducted Susani. We have it in. I kind of want to do that this week the hater of the week in the hater of the week is Jeremy L of the Bengals. And I could not believe I mean, I kind of leave it same time. It's kind of like. Dude move on. Unless he is still getting unless there are some third Bengal fans out there. And if this program, y'all single you out, if you're if you at the time going so media and dog Jeremy hill for something happened three years ago. Yes, it's a terrible terrible terrible moment in Bengals history. But if you have if you're sitting you're using your free time to go dog, a professional athlete about a screw up. He did then shame on you. I mean, right. But at the same time shame on Jeremy hill for using a big platform that he has instead of saying like, hey, it he didn't even need to mention the Bengals he doesn't even talk about him. And he's he basically gives the middle finger indefens- the middle finger publicly on one of the biggest social media platforms. Are is this finger hit for him. Wasn't wasn't busy enough yet utilizes one to exactly it's like like, I don't know if you follow Kevin Durant in Navia in. Things that he does. But every follow not not Kevin Durant. Every time. I see Renton. I'm just like what are you doing? And this is like like like. Like, this is this is preposterous. What what you the the the potential situation that that that you describe is basically the only logical reasonable explanation for why he will do the he's sing ease. Looking at the five percent Bengals fans who still taunt him about the fumble. It was storing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like easing, those fivers advance and generalizing the entire fan base doing. So basically trying to dunk on all of us who for the most part haven't thought of Jeremy hill since he left for the patriots because there's never been a less relevant SuperBowl winner than Jimmy hill. He played four snaps during the regular season. He hasn't played some ember in like he the best four Bengals on that roster expert has been a valuable contributor for the past years. The patriots as I think it's also a drink rider said congratulations expert on your Super Bowl championship. But honestly like this could not have possibly netted a positive outcome for anybody involved because it is triggered every Bengals fan who again did not think of Jimmy hill at all during during the Super Bowl. During the season in general trigger them into adding him just egging him on creating even more of a stir up in more of a fire and just making the situation worse for them at just feeding Jimmy hill. Exactly what he wanted him with. That was obviously triggered Bengals fans who are reminded of the very thing that Germany hill did the white people hate him why wipe something fan spice in. But not to the point where they were for the most part again for the most part Bengals fans did not engage your meal that much on social media about what he did they moved on that point because it was time for him to move on to the expiration of his contract. You just had to head no value here anymore. Go make yourself with good team in the patriots. Like, there's no need to dance on the grave that was not stirring up anything in the first place other than just a handful of people on the side. If you're gonna look at those few Bengals fans who into your mentioned about, you know, the the unfortunate act that he did as as the Bengals as ever the Bengals team back until fifteen that's fine. But don't love every single one of us in into the same thing. Just 'cause yourself. To be dunked on by everybody who did not think twice about you. I there are a couple of things here that I that made me first of all like you said, I kinda was like, oh, that's right. He's on the patriots. I mean, I I honestly forgot I was like. There is a part of me that says, okay, why is New England. So great at taking trashy guys now grant now granted Germany hill didn't do much for this year's championship run. But. There's Rex Burkhead. There's Devlin the fullback there is, you know, they grab Chad Johnson at one point they had Corey Dillon at one point. They had Delvaux Neil after delta. Neal was was on the bagels ahead are TRE Hawkins after that. He was on the Bank. They grabbed these guys that, you know, have contributed else where they get them cheaper in. They say come in in part of me is like why does that team know how to do that? And nobody else knows how to do that. Ryan. I think the spotlight is brighter because they're just constantly in the championship game. But at the same time, it's also there in the championship game for practices like that. Right. Right. I think it's a same Monson who is one of the main gastric PF. I think he says only tremendous about. Yeah. Hero belt Bill rates versus the coaches a fundamental person. Most coaches have system with various granite, Greg with various predations of of how successful that system is the struggles is when the system gets timing. They'll chicken game plans third dynamic, and I think that's the main fundamental difference between Bella check in the thirty one other head coaches like people implement systems, and when the system needs to change is hard to change something serve rigid. Yes, exactly is not fluid not liquid bell check in the reasonable. The patriots have always been so good countering every single team in every eliminate. Everybody's strength is because they're so fluid. They can implement guys who can kind of buy in to to the fluid game planet, and they always will be able to identify which players strengths that they have and put them in the best possible situation. They will never run the same offense every two weeks in whenever you try to do something that successful against them though. Find a way to adapt because they don't have anything they're committed to. So when. So when they bring in these mid level guys guys in they end, somehow the ended up being a lot better than what they're paid to do is because they find in identify the the strength. They have and they just work around that in whatever they do offense defense completely predicated upon the eleven guys around the field at at that certain point in time they can run a spread offense. They can go to tune the shock head. Brady's the ball around or the can go twenty one person personnel selected against the Rams run down your throat. It's all dependent upon who is available to them at the time because they can utilize anybody that that they want because they're not tied down anything there. So so adaptive in a capable of him because they have a head coach that recognizes that things are so fast paced, moving in the NFL in you need to have that mindset to essentially utilize what you have in this. I think exactly why they can take the gerbils expert as in, you know, whoever else leaking grab off in Browns roster guessing just make him into quality parts guy. I mean, this this feeds into. A couple of listener questions. We'll get to before we get before we get out of here we were going along. But we started late. So, you know, we've got a couple of questions we want to get to aside from the calls. We got but. It's the patriots are the NFL could billions. Right. I mean, there are so many bad. There are so many fads, you know, everybody's out. You know, multiple tight ends multiple wide receivers in, you know, the safety cornerback non linebacker defense and all that kind of stuff. You know what the chiefs ran that stuff? The Rams ran that stuff. They put that stuff out there. They got a lot of attention for it. And rightfully so. Because he wants Uber bowl peop-. Bill belichick. Tom Brady, Tom Brady guys who were able to figure out stuff with the people. They have in the building and plans with the people they had in the building to say, okay run who you want out. We will do what we need to do. And we'll beat you. And that brings me kind of to it's not necessarily a direct question that we received this week. But this is a question that I've seen a lot in Bengals forums on Twitter on all kinds of stuff. John. I mean. With with what Zack Taylor is bringing to the Bengals does the Super Bowl loss. And the performance of golf does that taint your view, or should it taint your view of Taylor coming to Cincinnati in what he is potentially capable of doing with the Bengals issued tender view of any dulling unders activity because violent tents purposes jerk off his more talented version of any Dalton, but they both have similar weaknesses where if you pressure them in if you force them to look beyond the certain amount time with the ball news to get out. They can get flustered. They can make bad decisions on depression. That's exactly what happened with patriots in. How they like. Like the pass. Rush wasn't tremendous for the patriots against the Rams coverage was outstanding in their able to confuse golf, and there's only so much that a quarterback coach can do especially when he's not the one talking into goff's helmet bike up until fifteen seconds since basis what he's always done as advantage against teams aren't the patriots who aren't so adaptive on the fly in. Don't buy you know, a quarterback like offs weaknesses. But you know, people are talking about, you know, Kazak Taylor. Elevated dulling will any don't thirty two years old. He's basically is what he is this point than he can get the maximum what he is. But he can't probably get into any further and for people who think that you know, if you're if you're Goff can't score more than three points against the patriots with that offense in that offense of line those weapons around him. It's hard for me to believe that donkey do such a thing because that's the goal right is to beat the patriots until the patriots aren't the dominant team anymore and with a quarterback liking dulled. I don't think that's a likely scenario. Even with a guy like Taylor if he's bringing that same system with the Rams like we just saw it. It's not it's not a perfect system because it's not the patriots in unless you have a quarterback like Mahomes like drew or someone who can elevate your surrounding talents. Just really hard to do that. Because you have to you have to out patriots. The patriots in the only way that we've seen done that is if the quarterback disco. Goes also the wall, if you have any line main where Nick foles, you can somehow out of the blue, you know, perform out of their minds, you know, if you have a quarterback lay new dog who's were split Beck of all time. It's hard for me to see that happening. Even with a coach soup will presumably bring in some offense of innovations that that helped the Rams gifted that position. Right. Yeah. Very well said, and I might might take away from this is is. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are the whatever you, you know, if you hate him or whatever the the stats show the amount of rings show that they are the greatest dynasty or coach quarterback tandem ever ever. Now how much longer they'll they'll be doing? It is up for debate. My guess is probably within five years. I would say that one. If not both of those gentlemen, will probably hang it up. My my my point is. I look at it in. I say, you know, I don't think this Knox Taylor. I don't think this knots his prowess as a coach, I don't think any of that. My thing is I don't. I just don't think there's someone there is a couple in terms of a head coach quarterback out there or has that has yet to be linked up. That can. Beat them. I mean, I it just that is the NFL landscape at this point. I mean, I I don't they're not winning every year. But. I mean. Was it nine Super Bowl six wins? Something something to that effect. I mean, it's it's absurd. It is absurd. What those what would those two have done, especially with sometimes the personnel. Dave brought into the Super Bowl. I mean, the fact of the matter is that it's going to take them retiring or some tandem better than them to be able to consistently compete nifty in consistently Pete in Super Bowl in that is Dave captured lightning in a bottle in good for them wonderful for the patriots. But. It's kind of unfortunate reality in. It's not a slide against Zack Taylor's unfortunate reality that teams. Just aren't. They don't have that. They're they don't have that relationship court quarterback coach relationship that his able to net amount of Super Bowls. They don't have that in their back pocket now. And you know, Bella tick is the my behind the whole thing. He's the greatest head coach Alzheimer's quest about the we just talk about you know, he doesn't bitches you'll have a Cisco system, but they do have a network of of coaches and players also bring the also form the whole thing. Like Brady mcdaniels basically able the offense are able to change on a moment's notice. Dante's Carney show whose line coach might be the grace offense line. Coach of all time. You wonder why brave doesn't get doesn't ever get hit? And why the Rams pass rushers nullified from us. The second half is because they handle stunts packages run any scheme roadblocking because they're just so well coached with that. And then the like obviously bell take handles defense in is defense coordinators always seem to give promotions will not. So there is a system in a live. Of cohesion in communication in cash since without throughout the entire staff because they're bonded by one. You know, spearheaded in Belgium, and I think with with what Taylor was talking about the introductory conference. It was clear communication clear connections, clear cohesion throughout the entire staff all on the same page. That's kind of what you know. A breed abridged version of what the patriots have in that in that thing that's very important for build. No, his his offense needs to be on the same page in have defense that is able to go go with some of loss season kind of all one cohesive page, that's a part of it. But again, it's obviously Brady Brady, you know, he's not the greatest throw of football. But he the way he greets the field the way he communicates with with Daniels in the system that they've obviously instituted is second none in how they can consistently maintain drives is part of the process. I guess that's that's that's the process of Taylor needs to try to emulate the. Visibility in just bringing you know, guys players coaches that will best work under the type of system that he wants to implement e I can't I can't think of another team who has done a better job of adapting to what their opponents do than the New England Patriots. No now, the patriots don't have the best roster. I don't think in the league. Now if they probably have the best coach in the best quarterback in the league. But what they do is. They just adapt adapt debt. I mean, if I saw briefly before we came onto the program tonight. I saw something that NFL network was coming on. It was the old dot I don't know two thousand one or I don't know when it was it was the the Super Bowl where they played the patriot the Panthers, and it was with Jake delone Steve Smith, Julius peppers. I mean there there are a lot of guys on the timber go. Wow. And that the. Pay the the Panthers team is very well rounded, regardless of your thoughts of Jake alone. Very well rounded in it was a team that could put a points a team that could do a lot of the Dan wargin. Linebacker. Good linebacker. I mean, they could do a lot of things. Well, what idiots do they ended up? Just kind of basically outscoring them that game. And it was a game. That was like not really Tom Brady. Threw a red zone interception. I mean, it was a game. That was not pretty. But somehow they just keep doing it. And I, you know for for those folks those Bengals fans who are sitting here going. Oh, this is a slight against Taylor that you know, his quarterback didn't play while. You know what? Yeah. But at the same time, it's kind of like, well, it's the patriots. And we all gotta deal with it until those guys are done. I mean, I it's just kind of a reality of the league at this point. So that's that's I mean, I I wish I had a better answer for it. But that's. That's kind of where we're at. We're gonna do one more question before we get out of here. We've got a number of texts we've got a number of questions in the YouTube jet. We appreciate it. This was in Email question. I wanted to get this from Mohammad Alam air. Saying greetings. I I wanna thank you guys for your show of in watching you for almost two years. I guess I'm your only fan from Saudi Arabia slash Scotland. Mile. Well, that's cool. My first question is we keep saying that we have so much talent defense in so much of that talent out wasted. Do you agree that a priority high level defensive coordinator is as important as a head coach? Do you think we need to new starters at linebacker this year? Thanks for your Email Muhammed. I'm gonna say this in lead. You my esteemed co host, your John is more of the film guru in a little bit more of he dives more in depth on that front than I do in terms of the position group. I'm gonna say this and kind of just basically what we talked about look, man. This is a quarterback head coach league. And you can sit here and say, hey, you know, the Ran's did well because they had Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator in established coach in this league. It's a league that is built on. You. Gotta get your quarterback in. You. Gotta get a head coach that your players gravitate to. That's what it is. And I would not be surprised if the Rams are consistently in the playoff picture over the next handful of years, and I think the Bengals to their credit recognize the fact that this is a team that needed a change at head coach. I don't know if that means a change at quarterback could becoming but that's what this league is. And. I think the Bengals probably need an absolute overhaul linebacker, especially with Marvin Lewis, gone a linebacker guru. But all at you talk about those questions, John. Yeah. You look at McVeigh in his early success. And you know, he's obviously a lot because he runs the offense any puts the entire defensively Phillips sandwich on the very best coordinators of of the this generation in, you know. Like his point the top four scoring offense in the NFL ended up going to the if championship teams scored Matterson. That's the only thing that matters. But also if you don't have one of those top tier offenses, you're gonna defensively probably a little better than with the Bengals defense put down twenty eighteen. So yet having that defense coordinator that young head coach can young offense of head coach can lean on is to is crucial in its own, right? And getting hired will matter to maximize, you know, some of these young guys who are gonna try to, you know, take over for eventually when Gino Atkinson, Carl leave the team for for their respective reason. So getting getting the defensive coordinator higher is important, especially when he can put up thirty points a game in adult think things often still be do that in twenty nineteen less a major changes happen and with linebacker group. Yeah. If one of the that were taught as perfect means, obviously did not start Brian up being on the team that. Visuals a different story because I think there is still something there. It's not something. Great live, maybe selling good. But something that you can. At least try to out there kennel for couple of hundred snaps. You know, he wasn't completely healthy this year. I think he he was he would've had a little bit more offer. But the ad like anti said major a major overhaul of that position needs to happen specifically with the depth that they have their MRI brain products. Go are definitely definitely definitely needs to go link. Jefferson needs to be given a chance to play significant snaps they needed at least another draft pick in inequality free agent signing there to kind of get that position to some form of competency because it was just amongst the very worst the NFL. And when you have a defensive line that like the Bengals last year couldn't consistent create pressure. And then you have a scheme that opens the middle of the field so much like the Bengals defense does than you're gonna. You're gonna be relying on those linebackers in covers midfield tackles that was to areas that the Bengals were just crap at unless they can just you know, the whoever leaves the defense of coordinator. Will probably a more linebacker friendly schemes in in coverage. What not, but the definitely needs just more town because just nothing resembling that they're right now. Yeah. You know that goes back to I think it was. Tyrrell's call on her show talking about Sean Williams in you know, he almost linebacker type of type guy, you know, you gotta have those capable guys in space. It is what it is. But yeah, the Bengals needed overhaul at the at that position. But I still go back to a waiver on an elite defensive coordinator. Or you know, I mean. I don't know if a lot of people would sit here and say, Gary kubiak is a is in a league coach, but he won a Super Bowl with. You know? Say that. Yeah. I mean, he he's he wants to roll with some revolving parts at defensive coordinator in you know, you've seen what you saw this year. With the two teams in the Super Bowl. I don't I don't wait Phillips has been a head coach in this league in his been to at mixed results as a head coach at best. So to me, it's get your head coach and get your quarterback is what it's all. Always you can you can get your your great supporting staff like McVeigh did in a way Phillips and all that stuff. But in that's probably something that that Zack Taylor is going to try and emulate, but at the same time, it's kinda like. I don't know, man. Like if you're the guy, and you got a quarter it you've got your quarterback than. You're set set. I mean, that's. And that is that is what the Super Bowl taught us. I think is coach quarterback you're gonna win. I mean, that's that's what it is. And you know, unfortunately, some of us who are not patriots fans are followers of the patriots probably have to wait until certain people retire for that torch to be passed. But that that is what it is this better bagels. What's that any or Beckham? As not he's not that quarterback. He is not unfortunately, I wish I I wish I could say he he was. But he's not the quarterback this the orange black insider beings podcast. He's John Sharon, I'm Anthony Kazan's. If he has any final thoughts for this week. Yep. Augury pleasant is better than gone Capers. So hope that. I'm very interested to see who becomes the fence line linebackers coach have imagined probably some Zack Taylor connections that I need to connect the dots with. But you know, hopefully that happens before we come back here next. Once we get this full coaching staff the wraps. Yeah. It seems a did put this on the Bank the orange black insider podcast feed. But it seems as if Ben Martin is going to be teams some sort of a cystic coach as nothing to line. Yeah. And James Casey will probably be coaching the tight ends group. Ironically for those who remember James Casey was actually brought in for visit a handful of years ago by the Bengals in the playoffs. When he was the Texans. Yeah. He's kind of Abraham. Yeah. He didn't torture zone dance did that. But I think he. He played dachshunds turn them. And he he's kind of an H back guy different guy. But you know, hey, whatever, I mean, I I was a fan of the Hayes brothers. They did some good work with the Bengals but time to move into new direction. And I think that that Casey could could provide a good spark there. So that just a little bit of update there. But yeah. More things to come. The combine is just around the corner for the for the Cincinnati Bengals in every team in the NFL. I don't know if my colleague. John Sharon, it will be going to that event or not like he did with the senior bowl. But. He's not. We'll try and get maybe some people from from Indianapolis on the program went up it at any rate.
