"R news special Look back in 2020 hosted by Jim Sharp on 92 3 FM on the app and on your smart speaker. So Jim Cross has had a very busy year, and that was even before he was named to the Arizona Broadcasters Hall of Fame. One of the reasons Jim is is so well known and so respect that is because of his knowledge about wildfires, and Jim Cross isn't just Katya, our senior news reporter. He's our wildfire expert. Really. He's the go to guy in all of Arizona media when it comes to explaining wildfires in listenable terms, an area of expertise we really don't want to have to draw upon. But we Have had two this year. Jim let's start with our weather here because that's kind of what determines what kind of a wildfire season we will have. That's determined by our weather situation, and we found ourselves in quite The weather situation. This year. We had the two hottest seasons we've ever had. And two of the hottest months we've ever seen in Phoenix, starting with July the hottest in Phoenix history when it Yeah, I mean, nothing should surprise us this year, but this really did. It was the hottest and driest summer. In Arizona history was one of the weakest monsoons we've ever seen across the state flag staff had the worst monsoon they've ever had. We shattered pretty much every heat record imaginable. Pretty much the only two still standing. I mean, I'm sure there's more but the two that really stand out that there's still in place or we didn't reach the hottest day we've ever seen and grace that 1 22. And we still didn't reach the warmest overnight low, But we only missed that by a degree at 95. So everything was on the table this summer. You know, we've had the hot summer We've had the warm fall the enormous fall we've had. So, uh, it's it's been quite a year. Otherwise, I noticed the hesitancy and you Jim Cross do not want to call it the hottest. You just called it the warmest on him. I'm gonna call it the hottest cause when you have average temperatures in October and November above 90 degrees, That's just hot. It really is for anywhere else in the country. But of course, that all drove some pretty dry conditions right And that was preceded by something that happened over the winter, Jim We had to really good winners back to back and that grew up a lot of brush and weeds across the desert East and west across Arizona, and firefighters were really worried about this year going in.

The University of Arizona has announced it's cracking down on big parties where the corona virus can spread. Even threatening to expel students. But Barnes says one of the more intriguing matchups is the match up for state Senate between representative Nancy Bardo and a gun. But Heather Carter in the GOP primary has got all eyes that normally watch the state Capitol watching that race this This is a tale of two different personalities. Two different styles. Politically another race. A lot of people are watching former Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his comeback attempt He lost four years ago to Sheriff Paul Penzone or apply on his former second in command jury. Sheridan considered front runners in today's GOP primary in America of a county. We live in Phoenix just crossed now they are voting in person. Plus, there will be more than 70 vote anywhere centers. This means no need to wait in long lines to cast a ballot. Many Arizonans have already cast ballots through the mail. George K. However, tech analyst Rob Enderle has identified several technology products that have been especially helpful while he's sheltering in place making stay home orders feel less like a punishment and more like something he could endure. Rob set this up. Question is just working at home for a long time. The problem is you stay in the house and saw your seeing is your spouse. And that's about it for long periods of time, and you know you have it or you like to go to car shows cabin able do any of that stuff, so it's easy to kind of feel. Like you're locked up and and you're being punished. I certainly understand people wanting to get out in about but the things that kind of helped me keep my sanity, one of them that one that really loves out with the at most at most, Ah, window to spelled a t M O P h. I wanted to and what it is. It's a window to different locations. It's a fork, a display 27 inch display. You hang on the wall like a picture, but it it connects over the Internet. Too. Remote cameras were located all over the world. Sometimes I'll be looking at a scene from Paris seen from London, looking at a scene from New York and then it fly, depending on your setting, updated its announce, which is about every 30 minutes. I did something new it and sometimes it's fireworks going off from some other place in the in the in the world. It kind of gives you a sense you could sit there and look at it as kind of feels. A little like you're there ended up and it's just, you know, normal people going by scenes boats. Whatever the scene is, that might be a of the serve, and it's got a sound as well. If you wantto want experience The local sound, but it allows me to kind of sit back and kind of feel like I'm travelling virtually Even when I'm home now, I think they could do do a lot of things better now that I've got another kind of like to have a 40 injure that takes place of one of the windows, but it still it's not that it and and they just kind of kind of allows me to settle. And feel less cooped up about this chilly cooler. Yeah, that I was just talking to a friend about this today was she's having trouble sleeping. She likes it. Cool cooler than her husband does exact opposite way. I like it cooler than my wife does and what the jeweler does uses technology very similar what they've developed for race car drivers in astronaut. Which circulates chilled or heated water in a mattress pad, keeping you either warm or cool, depending on what it is you want to do, and because it's water, you don't worry about electrical fields. Which is often a problem of electric blankets. Plus lots of blankets can't cool you as well as you. So what I find is it helps me sleep.
