"Jim Ryan ABC news correspondent in Dallas with this morning. Jim. Are you? Good good. Interesting story this morning. I wanted to talk to you about activists working to save some freed slaves cemetery. Tell me about what happened here. Well, yeah. The discovery was made earlier this year. Steve they were working on a technical school. At fort bend, Texas outside of Houston down toward the coast. And today as part of the excavation, they started finding more the remains of boxes wooden boxes. Nearly a hundred of them they contain the remains of freed slaves who had lived in that part of the country in that part of the state and had been a part of what's called the prisoner leasing program. This was after the civil war freed slaves were leased out to do work around the state that's part of the prison system. The they will when once they died they were placed in the cemetery and essentially forgotten until earlier this year now people in the community you're saying that they want to see DNA testing done on those remains to see who their descendants. Are the school district said look we need to get this technical college built. And quickly. So they're trying to decide what to do. They've asked the judge to make a decision Steve. It's kind of unprecedented never heard of a story like this. But how did they know or do they know for sure these are the freed slaves in the prison system. Well, it's based mainly on historical records in word of mouth people who live around that area. And who's who's event sisters live there and may have been a part of that prisoner leasing program, but this does happen occasionally here in Dallas. I remember about Josh thirty years ago, or so they were building a skyscraper. And they started finding graves this turned out to be afraid of freed slaves cemetery here Dallas white alongside of freeway. The remains eventually were relocated to a different place. But it's still stands they they halted construction on that part of the skyscraper. And it's still a park to stand in memorial to the slaves who lived in this part of the country when you hear of stories like this relocation to a different cemetery is usually. The answer is that what they think's going to happen. That'll be part of it potentially. The judge has put the whole matter on hold yesterday deciding that he wants to get more community input from people who are affected by this potentially affected by the descendants of people who may be buried there. So he wants to hear more testimony more from from both sides from the school district and from those in the community to decide what happens next to the whole thing is put on hold until March. And until the technical school is is essentially that have been taps, right? Jim Ryan ABC correspondent Dallas thanks so much coach Marvin Lewis the Bengals update next..
