"Nine seven neo edson called from new ver-. Let's talk about uber for a second. You a reported a yesterday before whatever that in your role as attorney general you said that. I think it was seventeen questions. Pass constitutional muster end assuming that proponents could ballot questions that is Collected the required number of signatures. They could appear on the ballot next year. One of the questions was i. Guess two or the questions dealt with gig workers Becoming staying as independent contractors and i thought be useful for you to explain away some confusions. Some people have attorney general on one hand one party or office. I believe is in court trying to get these gig. Workers overs lift door dashes etcetera classified as employees at the same time that you were authorizing a ballot question that are probably have hundreds of tens of millions spent on it that would mandate That they be independent contractors. Can you clarify the two positions coming out of the same office. Totally jim So we've got to be able to to To walk and chew gum at the same time and under the state constitution. There's a process that allows regular folks to go ahead and get things on a ballot for a vote and that happens every year. People come forward with proposals as you say we had a number of Ballot petitions before this year and then our job under the constitution is to review the language and to see whether or not they satisfy the requirements. And so one of the ones that came this year was one that was brought by uber and lift. Basically set up a new Employment regime so to speak and My office looked at it and and decided it was a method criterion for certification and so now the parties get to go and try to collect signatures and Then they can get to the ballot. There may be litigation. There may not be litigation. But that's a hat that. I wear gems attorney general My office's responsibility for reviewing these petitions. There's one on happy hour's there's there's one this year there's a there's there's one on Just a number of different ones. That have the have been offered separately. Jim okay separately My office Specifically my fair labor team filed a lawsuit against your burnley slasher. Why we do that or we did it. Because we believe that burn lift are complying with massachusetts employment law. Why well they've got a bunch of people out there working for them driving through them who they're not treating as employees and massachusetts law when they're supposed to be instead they're treating them as independent contractors and the reason john this is a problem is because they don't have the benefit of things like minimum wage and earned sick time. There's no payment into our workers cops System there are all sorts of things that you get as an employee that you don't get as an independent contractor and so we're in litigation. We're aggressively pursuing uber enlist at. We've got a new economy to. I recognize in terms of the has as we think about work..

That's that's just one of those things you're going to have to go out there and protect your garden. The garden fortress you have to build a wall. I have another question if i make all of course. I have a couple of pennies days. They've never bloomed and they don't grow larger. Did they need to be moved. Or what are they. It's just weird that they're not that's unusual. They're pretty hardy for the most part. So where did they come from. Where did you get them. I have no clue so probably and my wife loves pekinese and and them but we have had some that just wouldn't grow and she ended up just moving it and that seemed to do the trick. And let's go back and forth and one and one one and one no vena you've got one okay. I have one this. There's this duo called abstract mind state and they have reunited after not making music for sixteen years there from chicago and they were a group that connie west was a huge fan of back in the day and he was like. I wanna work with you guys. And so he has a new record label and he produced the entirety of their new album which just came out like a couple of weeks ago. And there's a song on there simply called. I feel good dreams. Hey the music itself has that kind of like boom bab soul sampled hip hop feel. That takes you back to a previous era and also like a previous version of cognac. Happy funds soulful exactly. Yeah fresh-faced wide eyed and bushy tailed us at this that i do. Yeah you know the saying we missed the or i miss the old kind. Yeah and it's like when you hear what he did with abstract mindset. You can really kind of feel that and so just the lyrics of the song like i feel good yada you know. And it's pretty classic like fresh hip hop sounds with soulful samples talking about. I feel good even sample. You know. The quintessential i filled the james brown song. So that's one of my pets. That's a good one anthony. Can you beat that. I don't know absolutely no. I'm just kidding no. I can't beat that. No actually mine's in a little different direction. "So they load up their shelves with you know with books or little pillows or things like that that really go with their brand, but it's just it's too much stuff and so for example, if somebody's sitting there watching your livestream and they're they're actually then trying to maybe read what's actually in the background. So I know it sounds silly but they're straining they're like, what is that? Like. So they're basically missing livestream because they want to really see what's behind them, and there's a lot of different ways you can clean up your background on you unite talked about this on a previous episode as well Jim but that includes, for example, in your case right now you're using a solid vinyl background you know I, know I, use a step and repeat for one of my shows I know another one I use a solid background as well. Sometimes, for example, if you're going to be at a hotel, you might want to use that for your background because it actually is a nice clean background. So there's lots of ways to make background much better in less distracting. Jim Okay. So what's number twelve you want to make? Sure especially if you're an Internet challenged area, take those extra devices off of the Internet. If you're maybe you have your kids especially right now maybe now trust me they're doing virtual school. You may have to think about You know what time you're going live at because if everybody in your location is on. The Internet it even if you have your Ethernet or maybe you don't have ethernet that is gonNA impact performance. So you might say, Hey, guys and to get off the Internet for a little while and then have them come back to keep that speed at a consistent level So that's definitely something to consider. You know also maybe do things like if you've got your phone. Make. Sure you put that on do not disturb as well. because. Those are the sort of things that can indefinitely interrupt your your stream definitely and. The skit leads me to item number thirteen, which is very similar removing devices from your Internet over moving you know gaming devices for example of people are trying to.

"Then when you go back and look, you can garbage depot. What we're talking about when I was Cooper's. Nine for this toll, it's actually got four steps completely. But. One of the things that we said was be very careful about using this to- because any situation you apply to any particularly problematic situation you can. Apply to or even any idea right? How often when you remarketing before right the stuff did some come up with an idea and some of those just go oh, that's nonsense. That's the time that never work. Right? We're we're kind of really good at doing that by now habits and patents just knocking down ideas both our own and other people's. The danger with this thinking about it is if you just instead of just knock it down, you always go hold on a minute what what do I care about? What's what's working? What's the good stuff here? So I'm not just focused on the problem if I then turn the problem into a whole series of questions, the mind can't help but tryon Trying to answer the question. So then the third step is actually the thing you said before about motivation why? Why do I care enough about this to actually do anything? Ryan. If I found my motivation given what I know works on stuck with gave my motivation. What could I do? What am I next steps? And the real danger with this toll because we've 'cause we used it thousands of times which you can take any stocks situation and find something you can do on the risk is that you if you apply to everything that comes up in your life your suddenly too busy. Abuse you can take everything that same completely stupid idea and turn it into something concrete. So once in is we were doing a training course with this and we one of the partners, right. So one of the guys who owned the organization had been Thinking about what to do and he was the client in in this situation, he said Oh, it's not just a bit bored at moment I'm not very fulfilled in my role. So we were brainstorming lots of ideas and as wide testing. This he antidote, we climbed two hundred different things on the wall you know these posters and we to to to show the toll. We just said Jim Okay Terry pick the stupidest idea on the wall. and. The stupidest idea on the woolwich leave the company. And it's kind of he was gonna he was owning a June is what he'd always spy to as a stupid idea. Why would he wanNA leave the company? So we then went through the total even halfway through he was getting nervous because as we got the questions he was thinking Oh. Can Physic- knows this is. This is starting to look like a really sensible idea but anyway we got. We got to the ends. They used to be the benefits of leaving right these. Okay. You'd have to work out answers to these questions but this is what would really matter and leases and things you could do and you could see in really struggling emotionally.

"Those stocks in particular, they suddenly have reported very good earnings here the second quarter and then look to falter. Pull back. What does that do for the general market? So I think those are the things I would dial in on a little bit more Jim versus again, you know the political scene. Right. And what about like the wealth tax? I get that would probably they would probably only apply that to people with over $50 million in assets. Probably they probably wouldn't go after All people. You know what? Maybe a couple $1,000,000 in assets again. I mean, we're only just guessing at this point, Jim to be candid, sir. I mean, I think that we just have to wait and see. But more importantly, I don't know that I would wait to see who the president is to look at your investment portfolio to make some decisions and possibly lighten up in certain areas, certain sectors of the market, maybe even the stocks in general, especially if you've been fortunate enough. Maybe take advantage off the hiccup we had here back in March when the market's hit. You know those lows on March 23rd if you were able to time your entry point, as an investor, you had some cash on the sideline in money market funds. And maybe your investment adviser. Your financial team. You've invested some money recently. You've made some pretty big gains. And if you've done that, you know, maybe I need to look at your portfolio and see there's anything you should be doing to lighten up by the same time if you have cash in your portfolio now. Maybe you've slowly started to kind of implement some of that with some new positions. But if you still are sitting on an abundance of cash in your portfolio now, I don't know that I would chase the market here. I don't think you should be looking at getting overly anxious to put all that cash to work here at these levels in the economy. We're in the market. Rather I'm just very cautious at this point in time, Jim Okay. Great. Thank you so much. Thank you for the call, sir. Great question from Jim and again, That's that's kind of you know, I think that personally, if you look at your portfolio, you need to really assess what kind of investor are you know some people focus. I know in the near short term, you know others are are longer term. In this case, I don't think it really matters whether your short term minding our long term minded. I think you need to be active with your investment management. Your portfolio and I would much rather be proactive versus reactive because if we get a retest of the market lows Another dip, you know, and you had some recent gains here in your portfolio. Then perhaps maybe you should look at those right now. Obviously you want to evaluate your tax situation. If it's a non IRA non retirement account, you don't want to force yourself into a ah higher tax bracket by by realizing maybe too many games paying too much in capital gains. You need to evaluate all this with your financial advisor, your financial planning team. But again, I believe at this point in time in the economy, the market is doom or for a little bit of a pullback and to kind of catch its breath here from the recent rebound we've had since coming off of those clothes. And if you're somebody who doesn't want to call in to the program, talk about your personal situation, your investments. I don't think they'll do that in Florida. Florida will do what Trump tells him to do plan or no plan. Let me just let me just finish my thought. "Problem. There's just no good answer. Frank hosts, no good answer, their backed into a corner. Speaking of a good answers. I am going to talk a tale of two Supreme Court decisions today. The. United States Supreme Court. It's A. It's a mixed bag these days. It's fascinating. To quench, it would be much. Yeah? I mean there could. There should be an MTV reality. Show about the Scotus probably, but there isn't so. We're stuck, just looking at their decisions which are bizarre. This last week we had a couple of very strange decisions one of them. One of them for our good for at least for most most atheists would say this is a good thing. Which is that the Supreme Court? Struck down a Louisiana Law That would have made. The would've closed pretty much all but one of their abortion clinics state right. It was a it was a five to four decision and Chief Justice John Roberts was the one who who knows votes conservative, but went over to the but joined the more liberal. Justices in this thing. Basically, the law said that every abortion clinic had to have doctors with admit admitting writes in in a local hospital right now. I don't even necessarily know one hundred percent what that means, but it's the thing that they had to have. And the court said that's bullshit, and so abortions may continue apace well. It's not all peaches and cream coming out of the Skoda's however. We should be clear because this is the weirdest of all possible timelines. They are not. You know we we may have gotten a good thing on the abortion thing, but then they also heard a case from Montana. About a scholarship program that a that the tooted for kids who were going to school, Primary and Secondary School k through twelve. Yeah, that allowed them to. Basically they could you know their? It's a voucher system. They're trying to give state money to scholarships for kids to go to private schools, right. And this. Allowed them to to use that money for a religious schools right well in this country I don't know if you know this frank This is a little known fact that we have what's called a constitution. And that constitution says things like hey, we're going to keep. Religion and government separated Enron. Fund religious things right. But That seems to not be how this is working and the Skoda's decided. That, that was fine than it was totally fine for Montana us. It's It's a money. Government money. For Kids to attend private schools I know the the argument is really isn something amazing. Right like it's. It's this idea that like. If you're offering the scholarship program right private schools. And then you're going to discriminate against, and that's kind of their attitude that discriminate against the religious schools. Right then then you're than then you're using religion as. A test here. Whatever and we don't allow that under the Constitution we protect individuals based on religion and it's like. What right? That's Word is an organization in your funneling. Government money to it. You're right. That's all all the taxpayers should not be paying for a religious organizations think now I, think the whole. There's a whole other issue of of of public funds going to private schools. That's problematic period, right? That's me but I think everybody. All of our listeners can get on board with this. I mean this is just like Jesus Christ I mean I. You know it's like. Can't go into Catholic schools. Just it just can't be going I mean and Catholic schools are the are probably the best case scenario, actually true. That's actually true most Catholic schools in the US actually pretty decent education. There's a bunch of other non Catholic religious schools that are some. Razi Bullshit Yeah. Of religious conservatives, arguing against these things called Blaine amendments. which were Anti Catholic? We talked about this on the show I. Don't know six months ago, maybe that this was going to be coming up. These. Things they were anti-catholic, right? The they were specifically they came out of this moment of of anti-catholic sentiment, and and but but the the school systems work differently back then and it was. You know it wasn't this issue of public schools versus. Right yeah. And it and you know when you actually read into some of these, so you know some of the the discussion of this Justice Alito. wrote his own separate opinion and talked about anti Catholic bigotry. Yeah, this is like dude. That's not what this is about. This is about Evangelical 's. They're using this argument. Sorry that I was trying to get that. They're using this like Oh, we can't be anti-catholic sense. When by the Way Evangelical? Christian. I grew up in in rural Oklahoma a lot of these folks. I know the sentiment about Catholics. So like anyway. Yeah and Brad Kavanagh currently apparently has two daughters who attend Catholic schools so. Great. You know it's just one of those things where? Litigating that issue. On a thing where it's you know in a case where it's actually like relevant not on. Just deciding if government money should go to religions, right? But you know this is. This is the weird times so that that is. All right I've got another story that. Somehow turns out to be another problem of separation of church and state, but it starts off with something that seems seems great and is Great, actually Mississippi. As I'm sure everybody has has has heard and has decided to change their state flag there. They had the last state flag that still had. The confederate flag. In it somehow built into it. And so obviously in sort of this moment, a lot of pressure was brought to bear and Mississippi acted fairly quickly right to to change this their legislature. voted on it. It's Let's see the governor's already signed the bill. Yeah, that's gone and and so like it's it's the state flag is changed and it specifically the confederate battle emblem will be re moved. Which is, this thing is amazing. It's awesome. Congratulations to everybody who worked on this? It's a it's a big big deal. It's like progress. It actually feels like they're like I. Mean I hate to sound hopeful in these dire times because there's so little hope to be had. Put that's. I mean that's great. That's awesome thing to have happened. There's some. Like the the the mayor of Richmond Virginia you heard about right he is. All. Confederate statues are coming down. and it's wonderful, and so there's these great things that are happening. However for listeners of this show, there might be something of interest about This bill that was signed into law changing the the Mississippi. State flag. Turns out. It requires that the phrase. In, God! We Trust beat included. On the flag, which Jim Okay if you know anything about? This study of flags. If you know anything, right? You don't put words on flags this. It's the worst like I know. Everybody out is like I. Don't want in God. We trust on this flag. For your easiest reasons, right? As. An arm chair. You know Exelon logist. Say Well I find most offensive. Putting words. In my God..

"I I feel like I'm spiraling right now. Lost I'm confused got lost. My identity is just beyond devastated We have free little kiddos together so everything right now ending up in the air. I'm not decided one way or the other. We're still trying to make it work. But in the midst of all that in the midst of this pandemic which is unfortunately one of the least of my worries right now is I own my own business and We'd been shut down for two months now. It's it's kind of actually timed up Perfectly or politically depending on your view it but anyway yeah about two months. I've been shut down and I haven't reflected so much enough to know that like I feel like I've lost the passion for my business and like the sparky's going in and out a little bit further. I feel like maybe that. Maybe that's been common for longer than I care to admit. Maybe it's been a couple of years. Now that I've you know that passions fading and now it's just come to light and previously. I would just push through and more Carter. My Default Mon just work hard to get through it. But I just don't know anymore for some clarity I can make it right in the best decision through this transition period with so much being up in the air. If I want to stay in my business I want to sell it We were in the midst of other things looking at moving together before I found out moving to a new house Before I found out about all this weeks ago and so I don't know sometimes the appeal to having a fresh start. My my businesses brick and mortar. So you know that's a consideration to just there's so much up in the air What is Your Business? It's just. It's a private training facility. Second Jim Okay. And Are you in any kind of financial duress because of Cova and having to shut it down so it's tough right now very me and this is a mess. I'm so sorry Kyle So much to cover here I. It's really hard to be clear about yourself when you're about your professional life when your personal life is in shambles and you. You got a lot of emotions going on and we don't have time to unpack all that. I think there are key is if you are having lunch today. I would want to for moment and if we can just for very quick moment. Let's separate the personal devastation. You feel betrayed You probably got a lot of insecurity all kinds of Yucky stuff going on right now because of this so we want to try to separate that and say if this hadn't happened and you kind of alluded to this that you were kind of getting over this anyway. So let's for fun and you've not had any fun in your life. The fresh start. I think that's a fun exercise. What would you do? What would you do tomorrow if you knew you couldn't fail? I've.

"You had a major party making common cause with the far-right off-day. Can I stop you right there? Because that was a really big deal and it led to the end of the political career. The person we presumed was going to be the next German. Chancellor that's Kopf I have the correct that is correct. You sort of just give us a little clip on that because I was fascinated by that outcome so she's apparently gave her blessing to a move in the state of during. Yeah Wear part of Germany. It's a eastern actually borders on Bavaria. Yet it's traditionally eastern it. I think it's a capitalist effort and there was enough of a change it was. It was a minute. Change actually in numbers but enough that created a space for the Free Democratic Party which is part it's often in alliance with this conservatives to step in and use even from a minority position to try to form a government there and they were given the blessing of the CD the Conservative Party to reach out to the FDA. The far right party that has been an athem to German politics. This is a big taboo. Jerem absolutely lying with the parties on the far right exactly and that did not go over. Well shall we say and caused such an uproar that I'll kick as admitted? A mistake is stepping back from her looming role as as the successor. She was Merkel's she was an picks absolutely urgent and party head. And this was this decision where. Merckel stepped down as party head seated to her and then she was seen as in running out so this was German politics into a mix. Also summons up another great compound. German were that I was familiar with when I lived in Munich for gun heights. Pavetti gung overwhelmed by the past. Jim Okay. Germans are overwhelmed by the pets. They are burdened by. That's going to be one of the driving sort of senses going on Germany as they seek a successor. So you have that playing out feeding into this west Lewis issue but also an enormous raft of issues. They're gonNA talk about everything from the corona virus outbreak in the steps being taken. They're going to talk about. What is the European security role in trying to bring peace to Syria to Libya and all sorts of other issues between Jim? So there's a lot on the agenda the role the United States As a bit of a disruptor in a lot of issues as well it will come up the US. And you mentioned the Afghanistan piece you might have the US announcing a bold peace deal with the Taliban at this conference but yet a lot of issues really sorted out in the role to which NATO might play a role needles being pressed to play on Iraq and we should mention as well. It looks like they are going to provide some assistance on the ground Iraq to allow US troops to to withdraw so this conference is always looked kind of a bellwether of of the state of the alliance in the state of the world. Really going to be fascinating this year. Do you anticipate they're going to be some conversations within the transatlantic community at least among foreign ministers and political officials in Europe in the United States given that Secretary Pompeo and esber both their Turkey. In light of Secretary Pales recent comments about China being the central threat of our times on this issue of whether the West should rally together in the face of growing Chinese power. I think so Jim. And it's going to come down to specific issues though look no farther than the ongoing discussions over who away. The giant Chinese tech firm that is at the forefront of providing five G. services in the US pressing its allies not to accept while way as their infrastructure builder they kind of got up somewhat of a compromise at but was not seen as announced by the UK recently about how it was going to go and how it was going to use while way and so that's going to come up. The greater theme of the challenges the world is facing will also encompass Russia although Russia. Is this kind of fuzzy matter. The US is committed to helping Ukraine Ukraine's at the center of a US. The rancorous impeachment proceeding that just ended in the. Us and Russia might be invited to the G. Seven meeting the summer host. Us So Russia's got kind of odd place in that whole discussion as well the US National Security Strategy Mentions China and Russia's main competitors to the US so we'll that come up and will they be able to come together and make some sort of common cause and that is going to be interesting another issue. That's throwing sort of a spoiler for them. All is Iran the main US allies the French and the Germans and the and the UK along with Russia helped negotiate the Jcp away agreement with Iran. That is now on its last breath. But it's going to require some formal steps. I think from the US allies to allow sanctions to snap back full-fledged sanctions a snap back against around USA's pressing for this and it's not clear it's going to happen in a smooth fashion well to go back to this topic of West listless and still not sure exactly what it is. But I do think that this year's Munich security conference is GonNa make clear how much division there is within the West. I think so Jim. I think these these conferences sort of follow a certain pattern but this one is going to be very interesting to see the reports coming out and also that the kind of the wraps is going to be blow by blow. And then there's GonNa be some interesting. Wrap Up Sunday Monday. And that'll be interesting to watch. While Jim leaving from Munich to continue on a very important trip is US secretary state. Mike Pompeo he's going to go to on Gola. Ethiopia and Senegal his trip to these African nations centers around two main themes youth empowerment and economic growth trade and investment. Jim Can you tell us a bit about the secretary's agenda for the Strip? Certainly Bob the main message secretary pompeo wants to convey on this trip is that Africa matters to the United States in that comes against the backdrop referred to pompeo's arguments than repeated variety of places that China presents a threat to Western values western ideas. Now I think the secretary is going to have some challenges in getting that message across number one as a lot of people pointed out he has been secretary of state for more than a year and this is first trip to any country in Africa as a secretary of state moreover there is the question of what is the United States willing to do for countries in Africa and this comes against the backdrop off the trump administration unveiling its budget this week and the administration posing yet again that it wants to slash spending on foreign assistance wants to cut that budget by twenty one percent. It's likely not to be sustained by Congress for the past three years with a controlled by Republicans or Democrats. Congress has refused to go along with these cuts but many African leaders will point out that China is in Africa. It's investing heavily in. Africa is bring something to table for Africans. What is it that secretary? Pompeii was bringing on behalf of the United States and to the extent African CBS's lectures. It's likely not to be received terribly well as one. African leader said when REX Tillerson went through on his trip talking about how African countries should in essence beware of the Chinese leader. Said Africans are mature enough to engage in partnerships on their own volition. So I think that macro argument is going to be hard for the secretary to make. Let's go quickly through the countries in Senegal. Yeah was going to say three interesting. Countries are chosen. Senegal is many ways. Success Story in Africa as long history of democratic governance. And I would imagine we'll be talking about security partnerships going forward tension for better trade economic investment. I think it's going to be a bit more difficult. When secretary pompeo ghost and Gola he is going to meet with President. Joel Lorenzo and I think it's going to be a big message congratulating him on his new presence. I think he came to office in two thousand seventeen tried to make corruption focal point of his administration. But as we talk just in the last podcast the daughter of the last president Mr Santos has been accused of some pretty extensive corruption and are just not in goal is a country. That's an difficult straight. This is a country about thirty three million people and when I was sort of reading up on for the podcast today I was struck by this one statistic. The median age in. Angola is fifteen point. Nine years that means half. The population is younger than sixteen. That's a remarkable talk about a youth. Bulge are the challenging goal of faces in the one in its considerable wealth. Lot of oil will concert something. Like fifty percent. The overall Gross Domestic Product and SEVENTY PERCENT OF GOVERNMENT REVENUES. Oil prices have fallen. So that's a country that is facing some very very big challenges and again. The question is the United States can urge anti corruption policies. It can clap for elections. But what can the United States do to prepare it to do? Perhaps the most interested in those GonNa come out. It's all about where. Secretary Pompeo is going to have discussions with the European prime minister. Avi Ahmed we recall won last year's Nobel Peace Prize for his reform efforts or ending the conflict with neighboring Traya. Big Topic here is going to be the status of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. This is a dam on the headwaters of the Blue Nile. It has been in trained for a number of years and the reason significant is it has the potential to affect the flow of water downstream and. What's downstream Egypt. And the Egyptians have bitterly opposed this damn the United States and I'll give the trump administration credit for this has been trying to sort of negotiate between the to broker an agreement because once the damn starts filling up its potential less water getting to Egypt and if you have any sort of understanding of Egypt the Nile is its lifeline. Is You get more than ten or twenty miles from the Nile Easter West it turns into pretty inhospitable territory particularly for anything remotely approaching agriculture. And the hope is that the be able to come to an agreement that will allow the feeling of the Ethiopian dam but not damage the situation for the Egyptians. A lot of national pride is in ball for the Europeans. This is not only survey major statement for them that they can put together such a massive infrastructure program but they see a great economic opportunity this dams going to generate a lot of hydro electric power. Electricity they can sell it to other people. They can also use it to power their own country. This is a country of ninety million plus people which has a lot of potential but also a long way to go so. It's going to be very interesting if there is one. Potential for good news on this trip is that we make some progress on bringing the Egyptians in the Ethiopian together. No it's a real test for governance you know you had this country celebrated rightly so so far. I think for a peaceful transition of power to a new elected government and dealing with an epic challenge in something that will need to be handled delicately working with a country that has gone backwards in its democratic progress. Such as it was In the post Arab spring phase. So yeah I think you're right Jim and that that will be. Maybe the single most significant part of the trip but the trip happening at all. I think is significant official. We've seen most often visiting Africa that that I've seen in reports the trade rep Mark Robert Lighthizer because you have trade development circulating as well with places like Kenya so it's going to be very interesting. We'll see what happens on that Front Bob. But now we're going to turn to the figures of the week segment of our podcast. GonNa Begin as always with our audience figures of the week. This week's figure coming to us from our twitter poll is President Xi Jinping. Why is President Xi figure of the week? Bob Jim President. Xi is facing what many see as the major humanitarian economic crisis of his time of his leadership period period which he has consolidated power in a way that we haven't seen since Mao Tse Tung and under his watch. The country has stumbled from the outset by all accounts on terms of slow to recognize and to acknowledge a problem with an outbreak. In Wuhan what we've had previously known as the Wuhan Virus Alcove Twenty Nineteen Cova Twenty nineteen slow and but also in the way unique to authoritarian governments. I'd also suppressed those voices that were trying to shed light on including The celebrate Dr who unfortunately passed away from the virus and not long ago and so precedes dealing with this recent reports today. Indicate that some Communist Party officials were removed from Wuhan and Hebei Province where one is located. They also did some updated accounting of the of the outbreak. I think raising the diagnostic threshold for what accounts for the disease. Partly because I think I've seen some reports that they don't have enough testing kit. So they decided to broaden the basis for considering the outbreak so they've added multiple thousands of cases they've increased the number of deaths by a couple of hundred over thirteen hundred deaths at this less reporting Jim and so it remains a disease mainly lethal and causing problems in China itself but China having such a huge role in the global economy and in so many other ways is This is having an impact beyond its borders. Certainly if not insertive of illness than in other ways so it is a huge challenge for she. I think as I said before the Munich conference. I'm sure it'll be issue that Chinese officials will be facing a lot of questions about and people will be looking to. This somewhat inscrutable figure. Pardon the Cliche to see what how he kinda handles. What must be an incredibly stressful moment? Certainly Bob one of the interesting things is how the Chinese state run media. And that's what the media are in China have been handling this early. On one of the new shows talked about president sheets of taking a hands on role in very quickly. The state news media changed. Its tone perhaps in part because if you're the one that's hands on taking ownership and leadership you then become responsible on if it goes in the wrong direction. That's not good politically..
