Peter Kostis opens up on 'disrespectful' CBS dismissal
"Here's our conversation with Peter Costas. So it used to be. We would call up. When we needed a big boost podcast downloads. How does it feel to now be the The Guy we go to when we when we're looking for a boost? Speaks volumes. On how far we followed I've been I've enjoyed them all you guys have been great, and hopefully we can keep the popularity going wall. What was what was your reaction? Like on your end to your I know laying up podcast experience. It was really well received I got my twitter followers, ninety thousand of them, or whatever I have not as many as others, but it's still a significant number. And they were. They were extremely positive about the whole thing. They were glad that I spoke truth to power. And they wish that more people would do it. Having said that most other people have a paying job and Boston as if they have to have to be kind to so. It affords me the opportunity to kind of say what I want now exactly and kind of contrasting that I think with. With our interview with Jim Nance which I believe you listen to, but what were you? What were your thoughts on that? I guess it was kind of the difference between the two I, think is you know what you just said in that you know is currently obviously still with the CBS you're not able to speak on a lot different things. Well Yeah. I listened to it. You know back in the day when you guys i. kind of took on CBS and the way they produced. Their golf shows I. think almost everybody at CBS was taken aback by by little bit because. We felt like you guys didn't really. Know what was going on behind the scenes in a TV telecast, and and and the way things work subsequent to that. You guys have done your homework. You guys have become much more knowledgeable about the INS and outs of broadcasting a golf tournament on television. Jim went as far as Jim could go given the ease, the voice of CBS sports right. Now that makes them makes total sense. I'm curious. With when we spoke in February, no, you're everything with your the non-renewal, your contract or firing, or however you want to phrase. It it was. Probably, a little more fresh back in February. Do you view anything differently about I? Don't know anything related to your job or golf on TV or anything differently after a few more months now away from it all. Listen. Gop On television right now is is truly unique. It's being done. In a manner that's never been tried before CBS's the Guinea pig. NBC will have a chance to do it here in in a few weeks. It's extremely difficult. But I think they've done a superb job to the point where people are bitching about coverage as if it were normal coverage with with a full allotment of. CAST and crew and equipment, and and the whole thing, and it isn't. That they've done a great job by feelings about management haven't changed in any way shape or form. They have a long way to go to understand. The game a all the viewers who watch golf and what needs to happen to make them happy. You can say what you want about Gary in me. You could say that we were stale. Whatever spine? That's all cool. It's fair game, but we talked to the viewers. Or we tried to at least. When I did my swing visions I talk to other tour players I didn't use to speak I. Try to use simple language communicate to the ten twelve handicapper at home with Gary. Talking about a shot that was misplayed or whatever he goes on you buddies at home. You guys know exactly what this guy's feeling like us. You do this on a regular basis, so we try to talk to the viewer to enhance the viewer experience. Now what I'm seeing on television is a lot of pros. Talk back and forth the pros in pro, speak. And I'm not sure that that's that's all that appealing to me, whereas kind of going with that, and not to poach to directly from your appearance on the mckellar podcast, which was excellent by the way, but you sounded much more relieved to be kind of away from I. Believe the phrase use of something along the lines of the propaganda machine. I have made peace with everything. You know whatever those stages of mourning are. I went through them all. It's all cool, especially in this in this covid nineteen environment. I I'm quite frankly happy not to be out there. You know exposing myself to two possible health risks, and so on and so forth, and I don't really need to. After all the years that I've done it. I don't need to play the game any longer, and that's formed for me. It's it's so refreshing for me to be able to to answer questions honestly and not politically correctly like I said before speak

"His broadcasting talents and he gets a lot of love. Yeah, it's well deserved. There's something peaceful about Al Michaels. Do you agree? It's okay. If you don't control he's in control. That's the thing you know. You hear a lot of young broadcasters in some broadcast these dates screaming and yelling, and you can't understand what they're saying. And Al Yeah gets excited, but you can understand him. You competitive without knowing if you are actually wrote an article about Al, If you want to check it out at the Baird sports media dot com. How many articles are you writing over there? One a week. It's one a week maser. And I didn't want to actually doing these little serious called Anatomy of a broadcaster, which is why they came up because Al Michaels was the 1st 1 And then I heard from Al Through an email that Jim Nance I heard from Jim Nance that did Bob Costas this we've heard from Bob Costas because hasn't reading it now, then they love it. So on second you wrote about Alec. And sometimes it takes me like that. And then l wrote he emailed me to tell me what you know how impressive he was. It was factual on that. You got an email from Al Michaels. I got an email. I talked to gymnast yesterday, too. You got an email from Jim Nance Pocho. Jim Nance called you both. See, this is this is the power of the Internet right there and nowhere disrespected barrettes in the media, but that it's not ESPN dot com With with Jim Nance, Nice down to earth, young gentlemen. Oh, God. Baseball fans. This is kind of how long the other phone finance 10 15 10 15 minutes with Nancy was at the charity, right when I was talking to me like you're talking to Jimmy. I don't know if I can hang with me. Is there any more voice White Sox talking to Jim Nance for 10 15 minutes, and then you and last week's was Bob Costas and what I want? What about I have to say something. Got an email from Bob Costas. What about to say thank you before the thanks for the beer. See if that's amazing, too, because you've had all this success and yet you still appreciate something out. Somebody writing something nice about And you know the fact is that you know these guys were written about so much and a lot of times. It's You're kind of not factual, you know is that there's some things that are kind of missing, You know, You know me. I like to do my homework comes things and he didn't have t didn't have to do it. All right. Manufactured. Nance told me he never. He never calls people. I mean about that. I mean, I have the windy City podcast and I've had let's see That's a big people on it. I have, but no one's called me and said Thanks having no one call. No, no, Maser is writing pieces and there there, you know, I don't like to brag enough. That's going on in the game. I'm doing something wrong here. Alright. By the way we were we were Talking about empty stadiums. So Dallas Kaiko was asked about this, and he had a really interesting response to what's it like for him now going to pitch with no fans? How challenging is that going to be? Well, Sadly, I've I've I've been used. I've had this before in my career rare early on, so it's it. It's not out of the usual now. The last couple years have been pretty nice with filled stadiums. Um the inner drive is is the biggest key is going to be basically going forward. How? How much you could do himself going in there for the love of the game or whatever it is, but to get yourself mentally engaged to pitch. He's going to be the biggest keep, but Then again, you're you're also You also know that that people will be watching on TV may be a lot more so than usual, and that's gonna be a deciding factor for a lot of guys too. So So to try to think about the guys on TV people listening radio, too. By the way, it's exactly right. Right here on 7 20 W. E. J and Andy Maser is getting Correspondences from the biggest broadcasters in the history of the world. So what I thought it just reminded me when, in 2013 I was working in Houston for Yahoo's radio, Okay? The Astros were an absolutely abysmal club, losing over 100 games for like this fourth straight season. And so I went to a game in September at what I believe is called Minute Maid Park that maybe there was still so Coleman made okay? So I go. There there is. I'm telling you 500 people there. Okay, It's a September No one's there and closed Rufus. Close as worse. So so, here we go. Here we go. So I'm sitting there and Somehow, some way. I get in like a shouting match with a guy and we're you know, we're in the fifth row behind home plate, right? And me And this other guy just start getting into this sort of like chanting thing with the players and it was for Jose Altuve. So did I tell you the story of marital? Okay, So he says, like he's like Al to stay, and then I go up and active Al to be a and it is echoing through this 500 seat Boel part and, you know So it's loud and and we keep going up and up and up and liked and trying to, you know, hit the hit the highest actives in OK, so then we're all we're all having a dandy time here at the Astros game for 107 lost, so then I'm driving home. And I put on the Astros post game show. Now, This is an embarrassing part of the story, but so I just felt the need even though I was doing radio down there, but nobody knew who I was. And I was on this. I just felt the need to call into the Astros radio show. And then I do. I perhaps might have changed my voice. Just a drop. No, and that you wouldn't do. I wouldn't do that. And I'm like he's you know, he was talking to you is like trying to talk up again like I'm like. Dude, I have been in a library. That was Maury exciting than sitting in that park tonight. I've never I've never been in a worst sporting event in my life. He is. So you were at the game? Yes, I was at the game. Well, then why didn't you get involved and create more excitement? I'm like I'm like I I was the guy that was yelling Al to ve And he's that Was you?.
CBS and PGA tour to continue partnership
"I love that CBS sports and our friends at the PGA tour have been broadcasting golf together on this very network for more than a half century and we are excited to announce that we will continue this partnership through the twenty thirty seasons CBS will present about nineteen events per season continuing as a towards primary broadcast partner the twenty eight twenty three in twenty twenty three CBS will televise all fed ex Cup playoff events and PGA tour commissioner Jay Monahan joins us now how are you thank you great to be here wanting that fifty years a lot of history it sure is what do you love about this partnership well I can't say a quick story so fifty years and as we approach this right cycle it was very clear given a set of athletes that we have in the way that the media world is changing that we want to be with a partner that's going to continue to evolve and innovate and that's what CBS has demonstrated through the years but when you talk about the relationships in a relationship economy our first kick off meeting you had Sean McManus and David person there and flying across the country was Jim Nance I wanted to be there to talk about how important it was to himself in the team and obviously to the company so a long standing partnership that has yielded great results and it's a great day for our players on the PGA tour and the LPGA tour to know that CBS continues to drive the professional game forward here and and speaking of the L. P. G. A. tour how will this exposure helped the women's game well I think it's it's going to be significant for the women's game and and as we approach this right cycle we've placed our broadcast rights with CBS and NBC or cable rights with with with the golf channel and then streaming and starting at twenty two with the SPM plus we have a strategic alliance with the LPGA tour as we went into this right cycle we feel is very important for our two organizations in for the game to be presenting the game both the men's and women's game on the golf channel twenty four seven and now how CVS's commitment to carry up to four events for the LPGA tour is significant it broadens the reach at a time where the women's game like the men's game has never been as exciting how do you expand the fan base in an era when there's so much competition over media sources and sports I think you broaden your reach in you broaden your distribution and that's exactly what we've done here and you continue to innovate and evolve in the interests of the fans so we will be producing a lot more content that we've than we've ever produced we have a set of athletes that are really breaking through and we have the flexibility to adapt to the market and so to have these long standing partnerships to be able to plan through two thousand thirty to have our tournament schedule on a really good place allows us to do just that as we take a look at these crowds you know the greens shot of everyone crowded and waiting on the pot what's the PJ doing to prevent it from the virus spread and that kind of context well I think we've we've as I said to others with basically stood up a business on the subject we've got a number of leaders in our company that we're working on this subject over the last several weeks and so like others you have to rely on the CDC the World Health Organization given the fact that we play a hundred and seventy five tournaments over six tours around the world you've got to have an understanding of what's happening on the ground so we're spending a lot of time doing that but right now we're all systems go according this week at the Players Championship yeah it really

"Yet a phone CBS with Jim Nance and of course Tony Romo and we're back marks and Reese and a lot of the talk over the last few weeks maybe even we've known for awhile that Tony Romo was going to be a free agent we talk about free agency well he was gonna be a free agent and a just a just a right place right time like these these broadcasts are so important to the networks and with the possibility of E. S. P. N. stealing Tony Romo away from CBS he re signed with CBS at a at a at a figure of seventeen million dollars a year valves are for over five years did you know that we don't have an exact exact number of years I I was searching again for today it's all to be over five years I heard is is and many as ten but seventeen million dollars a year first with eighty five million if you did it for for five yeah yes eighty five yep good math five for eighty five I mean that's I mean you know he's making as much money as the close it's the X. as pro ball players yeah so let me listen good for Tony Romo I let me let me just say this I think Tony Roma's like fine to me I I watch the games and I you know I think but this is ridiculous he's making seventeen million dollars a year east eight PM I guess he's not worth seventeen million dollars year because he got seventy million dollars years that means he's worth it I think he he's extremely overrated and he he's he's the guy that came in he was smart enough to know that he was doing something different that other guys were doing like for example you think a guy like Kurt Warner could sniff out plays actually said it on the air no he was just waiting for the play to happen and then he talks about it Tony Romo came in and said I'm gonna start calling the plays out on the air and people are like oh my god he knows the place beforehand sure right it's okay like and he's he's good he's good energy he understands what he's doing he's a natural output seventy million dollars a year for for Tony Romo our guests are becoming a free agent at the right time and I made you got other net warehouse in broadcasting yeah yeah your favorite free agents like that as a free agency as well and here's the other thing CBS is going to let him miss a week if you were qualified for this golf tournament at the museum but he missed the cut and therefore yeah he came back and he did the game but CBS already was saying to him like Hey Tony you're our guy man yeah if you do this well and and I look at that and and question the commitment which was like you think you think John Madden boomer size sedan or anybody that did this for a living that as a hobby did this for a living we're talking about seventeen million dollars years as much money as you may never use any any you're playing football for crying out loud so I mean I hope he's we're dedicated to doing it now so that tells me he's not going to be well apparently ESPN's parent offering ten years a hundred forty million a base got ten years a hundred eighty from CVS so it's going pretty well yeah man listen if they want to pay that for you always I'm not doing anything different other than talking football that's all he's doing dealing Romo's agents just sent CBS booger McFarland do you want this right and and then you're right here's the other thing when you don't have a bunch of other broadcasters out there available to you he becomes even more valuable yeah what's plan B. yeah because now you know plan B. is for ESPN offering paid might many probably more money than Tony Romo is gonna make right because he's not coming out for five seven eight million dollars all three minutes least what Tony Romo makes twenty yeah that's a twenty I mean he doesn't and and he doesn't want to do they told the world was good in the ESPN one the him to do stuff on all their properties you know what I mean like we when you when you're doing Monday Night Football they're paying you that much money you got to go and get up or you're gonna go on this program you got to go on that program Tony Romo's doing the games for CBS so I don't think yes it did worry about anything else other than doing that but you know a plan B. was talked about boomer sizing doing the games with Jim Nance and he would have to leave his radio show in New York at our sister station WFAA ends he would have been able to do both do you probably got a pretty big race still and we're gonna bring back Phil Simms no probably not now feel feel stormed out yeah I think that's that's over film no you're right you're storing up bill bill was not happy about Romo like Adam with straight out retired right yeah it was not happy about that I mean it it's it's pretty it's pretty unbelievable and you know I I don't watch the games and this is why and this is where I agree with Jerry Jones this is why when Jerry Jones says to dak Prescott played quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys is different he is absolutely right and this is what he means this is what he means yeah it's a great point Ike this is what you play Charlie Romeo one one forget it is life that was good good jar right we got you all into one the the the line to be the lions yes on that holy god I got away with it but you have to do is to catch it Blake and Graham were dares really caught the ball I still can't believe they say there's no catch that was a catch anyway my point is Tony Romo never did really anything right if he was the lions quarterback and had the same level of success is he is he in this position right you know that was misleading stat ever about Tony Romo that drove me crazy comebacks that like you love the leaking come back not sure that is absolutely not true well it depends on how they frame the come back Carson Wentz there when I am in the what what's one thing the Karsten Carson and Romo have in common right what you know what it is that we'll see backward spin move that they do to get away from probably a sense it okay all right we'll start with that Russell Russell project yeah I think Wrobel started Russell perfected that MEG doesn't too yeah and of course it does have to offer but none of them hit the one the cars in here in Washington where he started to do it change his mind went back to the right Sanders in the in the back corner of the end zone through the season mmhm you know numbers the only number sixteen on the NFL plays the year with a stick yeah but anyway that's that's that's what Jerry Jones is talking about with that you know you're you're exactly when you're a quarterback for the cowboys it's a benefit to off the field yes Derek Jeter shortstop never won MVPs first out all of them I don't realize he never won a V. P. you know he he never I mean he did have the overall help realize that goal still may I I I I just didn't realize he had never won at least one in between just trying to present facts and now look at him as fat and everybody hates them Derek Jeter these ruin the Marlins again it was back with yeah there's a whole lot all those pictures that were in there in the in the New York Post worried gaze said Jeter has lost all of his looks and his wife I mean to get married are you let go you got me right in the headline he's a good doctor glad to here is gone the plant sitting in the.

"Legendary Jim Nance here give us a few minutes on a Wednesday edition of this act yelp show Jim how you Ben hi good grades back it's been a whirlwind couple of days of starting with the AFC championship game in Kansas city at the down in Orlando sense than a VGA show the annual biggest gathering in golf and now I'm heading west changing planes and I understand that you are manning has announced he's retiring just sold by Mike behind the glass so that's used to make yeah you lie manning is retiring and right away we get into the debate of is he a hall of fame or not I think he's a hall of Famer how bout yourself Jim in the hall of fame is not going to be much of a debate I mean people can sit around talk about it be snarky about it whatever can be as always this is what sports fuel by debate but he will be and there is no question about it damn right before we brought John we talked about how this is the first domino to fall with the line manning retiring in that will be official on Friday at his news conference that'll have this is going to be such a fun NFL offseason with all the quarterbacks that are going to be available amber everyone starting Jim as you know it is it's Tom Brady well what's your read on that situation Jim that's about Tom Brady Jr the ones that we all can't wait to find out the most if I don't have obviously any inside information on it is a great story posted today by locking for on CBSSports dot com forty projects to the starting quarterbacks will be around the league next year and I think he has I think he has him going to the to the Chargers but you know the big thing is what I really want to know what we see him ever again in the New England uniform that's the question and I don't have anything to go on I don't I don't again but my my hunch tells me he'll play somewhere else Jim Nance here with us right now on CBS sports radio it is this act guild show I was a fun scene that AFC title game calcium mistook that microphone from you but you are letting him that was awesome very was immense strength prevailed he tried our breath will be you know I was all pumped up for the occasion and I'm glad I brought in and he had a unbelievable moment there when he was clutching the Mike on top of my hand and there was wild it was what almost didn't happen I was instructed to sue us throw back to the studio but you know you got Travis guilty standing like there is a big guy in in either one a lot of down and you told me you had somebody wanted to say so I leaned over pretty much gave the cue that are said to be quick and it was quick it was brilliant and it was definitely effective in definitely memorable when we look at this chiefs team at the two story lines where you start of course is going to be Andy Reid looking for that first Super Bowl victory in his long career in the National Football League with Philadelphia in Kansas city and then Patrick my homes and how quickly he's come into this league and I've just dominated the position give me a little feel on Reedham homes as we get set for the big game next weekend no of course radio see people over here on the CBS site of the NFL so I have six occasions is sure to watch Patrick and a whole bunch of times last year so I know I I don't have the exposure to San Francisco and I have great regard for John Lynch and Kyle and everything they thought I think Kansas city when the game but that's only because I probably seen a whole lot more than a six forty Niners like the perfect match up with bases offense defense I mean it's like it's like a dream good per box again and saw the heck of a game it's one that you can't miss when you're call in a super ball and you've been able to call a lot of super bowls as a broadcaster Jim what are the emotions and you've called big event after big event with golf with the masters each and every year about their cabin and then what you're able to do with the NC double a tournament how does the Superbowl compared to the others well it's just the the intensity of it back it's out of sight it's it's completely insane that she could overtake sure world for more than just that we it is just the gigantic assignment I'm checking in here yeah I live I will thank you if you will in three bags Madonna right thank you for being as radio network thank you wait so long Zach yeah this is awesome we have Jim Nance live on the air yeah I would think they have a private plane for Jim but I guess Jim has to be like everyone else a man of the people right do you take your shoes off they make you take your shoes off when you're going through all of my soldiers security I was actually at the gate they were trying to get me to check my kill everyone I've this is the end of eight days of one from Atlanta seeping one it's one in nineteen I said sure you'll be back he'll do it again no the next big thing all the next big thing is that is that it won't when we get number eighty three and that could be this week he's gonna be a Torrey pines will be there our season starts unbelievable the old I transition from football the golf all try to get my kittens and and and commentary and my my my sports phraseology back to the other sport and it's going to be there Maureen Justin rose it's an unbelievable seal but not yeah I can't wait to see how he's gonna planning is not quite sexually well that's the short of it one again a major wouldn't shock me at all I know you're in first class at you know if you had did not greet me plane while back is not one of those big ones got CA so you are you I don't know I'll gonna have to answer this question about Tony Roma's future and we got Jim dance here hello friends everybody of course can you imagine if Jim that's what your plane if you are the flight attendant you have to go hello friends welcome we're on flight two thirty three little puddle jumper for Jim there it's a commuter plane I see when I envision Jim Nance traveling I'm thinking Jim Nance and a big cozy plane like a glass of wine or a a couple line let me get my terminology right no actually no glasses right the first time yellow glass of wine with Jim Nance and it's a very smooth ride it seems like it's a little puddle jumper very interesting stuff I'll take a time out second chance CBS sports radio.

"Gotta say Bob what I was most impressed with as far as Tiger Woods Sunday at the masters as lot to be impressed with. But it wasn't his steely eyed determination and trying to get back to the top of of golf's greatest major. It had nothing to do with golf at all. Is the fact that he didn't cry when Jim Nance was trying his damnedest to get that do cry. In front of fifty five million people. In Butler cabin. Gymnasts was trying to get Tiger Woods to break down like Sealy in the color purple. He wanted the so when you hope to kiss think about your day, like just stop it for God's sake. The man is not wanna cry on national television. Why are you try to start the waterworks Nance cut it out exit? Except the thing is Jim is so good. But he's got eight cards of encase Molinari wins the whole country Italy. That's like Brooks KEPCO. It's not just the US open. Masters champion like he's got. He's got the tearjerking questions for get like a fan deca car to figure out who's gonna win. Then Jordan speed. Your sister has special needs will she wear at green jacket. Listen, every one of those is like, so we got video of you hugging your Pop's back in the day. We want to juxtapose that with you hug at your son today. I'm like come on, man. Stop it. When you try to do this guy, at least Jim Nance, do the there was your kids, your mom, your girlfriend, where was your. Oh, wait all. All. Go their father, missing terribly stop it. Stop it. Now man that was that was that was good sports. That was good entertainment. That was that was good all around. I'm gonna go ahead and get this out of the way. Bob you played Augusta. You're welcome. So, you know, knock on the water on twelve. It's like the actually play that joint of your that. You're the golfer of the family, obviously, I'll defer to you. But when I've learned about golf integral with specifically what has made him so good and what made him so good yesterday. His ability on the par fives figgy birdie three of the four par fives yesterday. And this was talked about over the course of the round on Sunday, especially the second nine as a call. It at Augusta National it was that just Tiger Woods says his belief in himself, and the fact that he's had that Sunday master's experience. But it's course knowledge as well. And I found it interesting with Tiger Woods said, you know, as gymnastics trying to get him to cry where that only he controlled his emotions, but he controlled his aggression. You add that into the mix with his experience on some. At Augusta and his knowledge do some beatable yesterday. And that's exactly what we saw. Yeah. I mean, you you have he was forty four th and driving. Okay. So that's way, different tiger out of the thirteen hundred nine of those under shots were on the par fives over the four days. So he dominates the par fives. And he won in the way nNcholas usually want a lot of his majors lateness career. He won by screwing up less Thai tiger shot. Seventy Dustin Johnson sixty eight sharply shot sixty eight day sixty seven Jon Rahm sixty eight can't lay sixty eight Fowler, sixty nine they all played it better. Fourth-round the differences. Unlike Jordan speak day, one tiger had seventy then sixty eight sixty seven seventy he never had the galactic screw up, and that comes from course, knowledge and controlling your. Regression like he didn't try it inevitably eagle for the whole tournament. He wasn't trying to put the ball in spots. It would give them a bad situation. I mean Molinari I'm sorry on twelve there with a two shot lead on the last day. You can't be wet and short. It's one hundred fifty eight yards. You have to calibrate one fifty eight to one sixty eight even if you're in the back bunker, you're still dry like that was a gaffe of epic proportion how much that was that was that a mistake of aggression was that a mistake of not dealing with the pressure. He already won a British Open. So I think the pressure he didn't have a bogey for thirty five straight hole. So that's why asked the question it seemed like he came. He seemed like he came apart at the absolute worst possible time. I'm number twelve loss tournament on on that swing right? And I'm saying both he and his caddy. Instead of you know, hey, what is the one fifty eight? It's like, dude, it's one fifty eight to one sixty five like, you don't introduce short on that whole like you just don't, you know? And that's the thing that was ridiculous. Was he you know, he founded in ended up ten fifteen yard short in the water. So my point is detached go for that. Penn. Did tiger put anything any chance of being short. Hell, no. He hit twenty feet left and smoked at one hundred and sixty four yards to make sure he wasn't in the water. Like, that's what nNcholas used to do when when he let other guys just GAC on themselves and tiger. He got in my mind. Great break. The fact that kept chemists at six putt at eighteen. I'm still stunned because if he if he makes that Tigers got a par and he did not have a good drive. He squirrel the second shot. He went out to get up and down for par to do that. Otherwise, we had a playoff kept go really swallow the olive on that that was a even had follow who never critiques anybody. He's like I can't believe how badly he missed that. I couldn't either. But isn't that what Sunday at Augusta does guys won multiple US opens and he shot sixty six on day one? I mean, I was surprised at the amount of choke each from other good players, and I was pleasantly surprised with how well tiger played Saturday and Sunday to win it. So there was a kind of watching both of tiger never had the galactic screw up and and multiple other good players did. And that's why he wanted. He wanted. Very differently. Forty four driving is way different from him. No eagles as way different from him. I it was it was very impressive me at forty three to do that. Now, the flip side of it is the comeback stuff. A lot of his injuries and a lot of his personal foibles. Those are all self inflicted. So it's almost like, oh, look how fast you saying bolt runs. Now. Even though he stabbed himself in the leg twelve times. Like tiger. Didn't have the Ben Hogan where he got hit by a car or tiger could have open heart surgery or something. I mean, well, there's still time. Did he? Yeah. He he did it. Well, you know, his chemical drunk driving thing he could have been hitting me or you on the road to. So.

"There will be so much in the future. But maybe not as the jet stand in their way. Good afternoon. Friends Jim Nance alongside of Tony Romo. Tracy Wolff said on the sidelines. An amazing story the jets just last year a new head coach a young quarterback, but fighting their way to the AFC championship and Tony Romo it's a storybook season. Like any other for this young man and Sam darnold and then Tony Romo goes in. I mean, you're telling me, you wouldn't have you know, what going on there. Tom tell me that that is a sensational. Thank you faint. Hugh, come on Christie's elite teach the young man since station all gymnasts. That is exactly it can. I don't know. What you're asking me. No. I can't see. Any of that? Or you out of your mind got up, a leave you idiot. Get got a Adam gase, I believe in the jets, generally, I kind of was supportive of the gay hired. I'm a huge Sam darnold guy. I think he I think it's arguable that Sam darnold and Levy, how are the two most talented players. The franchise has ever had. I think that's possible. So I'm optimistic use that. I think it's worth the patriots reign of terror for the gamble that year. One Adam gates and year to Sam darnold. They're going to go to the AFC championship game and beat the patriot. And that's gonna make it all word that no. Dreamy talk on Tom thumb take. I would tell you to take the headphones off. It's gotta hear me think like a fan for a second think, maybe are like, Jeff. Yeah. There you go. You're very cynical group of BP. Just gave you the optimism though. I mean, how optimistic can a jets fan possibly be before it Bordeaux across the line into utter stupidity. Hold on. Hi, very easily take things to stupidity here. Think about this. What means more be serious with yourself? What means more AFC championship win at Gillette? Jim Nance Tony Romo, Tracy Wolfson on the sidelines or AFC championship. Win at Arrowhead with Jim Nance, Tracy Wolfson on the sidelines in Tony Romo in the booth which means a little bit more to get one over Bella check. Sure. But to me the more important. Can I don't look at it yourself? You're lying. You're lying to yourself. Call you a liar. I think you're lying your own emotions though, you cannot tell me you're the one that might sound everyone chip. Okay. I was five years old when the Rangers won the Stanley Cup. I'm focused on the jets winning a Super Bowl. I'm not focused on the patriots to the point where I'm saying. It's better if they beat the patriots. I don't give a crap you will not ally jets to win anything. Let me tell you some somebody who's now I will talk fan speak. Okay. What makes two thousand sixteen sweeter? If the Cavaliers beat the Houston Rockets or they beat a Seventy-three wind Golden State team. This way, the story could have gone. Thank you. But that okay, I get it. And I understand your preference for that for the point grandiosity of your win. But the, but I I don't know. We don't know the Browns are going to get it done to the jets. In fact, it's incredibly unlikely that the Browns are jets are the team that knocks off the patriots or that the patriots go anyway, other than some goofy on their shorthanded because somebody gets hurt and a veteran team or something weird. Like the ravens do it. Again. There's going to be some weird explanation. It will not feel as as fulfilling as you think it is. And we just sacrificed all of this losing to the patriots every year for this moment when we could have just seen other drama that didn't involve the free compatriots. And then we wouldn't be talking about the freaking patriots right now. I know that other jets fans see it. I know that other that other Texans fans and chiefs and ravens and Browns fan seat. You can't see you can't you can't see it. It's a shame. It's a Lia. Can I just three died with you? You can't tell me it would be better. If you were playing the patriots, and the and you just said, minimally, I think it would be huge. If that's why. That's why villains are villains. Because it means that much more to beat them winning the Super Bowl is more important to me than beating the patriots the Baghdadi patriots in the playoffs. It doesn't feel that great. If you don't win the whole thing, you gotta bet that joker. He has the penguin. He has great villains. When he beats them. He doesn't have some guy named Hector who's knocking off boat data's on east one hundred and fourth street, give Batman one sometimes. Is pointing it out. I mean my God eventually you'll want someone's going to beat them, right? -obably age probably injury. Who knows man? The other problem with this is not just Brady. It's too freaks. So that's the thing. What just happened to Mahomes? It wasn't Mahomes his fault. It was bad team building. And the game wasn't coached particularly well down the stretch. And so they lost. But it wasn't even on the court. It's not even about necessarily just beating Brady you have to overcome this. I just think if I'm talented duo. I know there's a dude in Texas right now who you play music again. I know we're out we're out of time. I lay that same scenario out like you sit down to watch the Texans on the road AFC championship game at you let stadium. Holy god. Forget the Viagra. You got it already buddy. You got it already. Magin? This will be the first Super Bowl for Houston. Right there. Come on. Forget about it. Eight five five two one two four CBS coming up next. Yeah. I gotta talk about Antonio Brown because he still might be someone emulate just hear me out on that. And also you remember how old thirty four seemed when you were twenty.

"Wow. You're back into then. It's just happens. Every year for me. It's a it's a tradition of of. But it's it's you're letting go of it, and it's a passage of time, and I get the have. You know, my daughter there with me, arm and arm and a walk off the floor, and I have to immediately kind of transition my mindset, so what's coming up in the next six days. So it's a nice goodbye. And something I get to share with her talking to Jim Nance, the CBS sports broadcaster broadcasting the NCAA tournament the masters, and of course, the NFL, and you make that transition you go from something where there's excitement you're able to yell or be loud. And then you go to Augusta and is that hard at all to use your voice in one way. And then all of a sudden heart at all that I think a lot of people that don't understand golf think that that's you're trying to suddenly like trick up your voice at the golf tournament to try to create some sort of false drama synthetic drama. The reality is it would be really awkward if I went to Augusta in Santa like the guy that was calling the Monday night championship game tiger ones. That wouldn't be authentic that would be false that that that would be really delivering ally. With just the pitcher your voice naturally, you acclimate to the surroundings that you have in an Augusta or any golf term for that matter. You don't yell it? Don't pitch your voice. You don't force your voice during action is just it's quieter.

And then followed by taking you from six to seven for Charlotte at six telephone numbers are get on the show seven four five seven ten and you can also follow me on Twitter for all the news happenings at Brett underscored Janssen, that's J E N S E N. All right. So again, I want to thank Pat Jones has chance to speak with yesterday, the general manager and vice president of care wins. Like, I said just we went to the break. They are building. It's currently under construction, and you can see it from I seventy seven just for you get careless boulevard heading south. You can see this brand new hotel. It's a Marriott property hotel. I think it's a Springhill suites, and it's like a hundred and five rooms hundred ten rooms. So now when you want to stay there if you're in from out of town, people can stay there. They don't have to try and get hotels, and plus it's on the actual property. I believe it's right beside what I think it's called Cabela's the the hunting fishing. That's down there. And so not only that but they're building a dormitory for all their summer interns. It's going to be like a hundred room dormitory, and that's just really cool. And it's nice to see the carowinds is getting into all types of these things. All right. Let me give you some updates on. What's going on in the world of college basketball? Tennessee is currently beating Colgate at halftime. Forty two to thirty Kansas state is down four with a minute to go number four seed Kansas state is losing to number thirteen seed Cal Irvine sixty six to sixty four. They just scored as we said that sixty six sixty four with a minute Levin to go that would be a big big upset, but not as big as this candidate B two straight years where UVA just completely wets the bed two straight years at halftime. Ladies and gentlemen. Halftime. Number sixteen seed Gardner Webb thirty six. Number one seed Virginia thirty at halftime to talk to talk. I like Virginia became the first team and basketball history. College basketball history as sick as the number one seed to lose to a sixteenth seed happened right here in Charlotte. As a matter of fact with Jim Nance on the call. And here we are. And it looks like it could happen again. Now, I will say this what may not be necessarily fair is the location of the game. And I it is not that far from Gardner Noah, it's not that far from Virginia. Because I mean UVA's what maybe a three and a half hour drive from Charlotte about maybe four hours from Charlotte. But it is is being played in the south region. And this is on. I mean seriously think about this now could it be back to if you the loses this game. Back to back years. I don't care that you won the ACC last year. You won the ACC regular season this year. Don't care. Don't care. You lose back to back in the opening round as a number one seed. No one in the history of time will ever take you seriously again, like I don't care how good you are going forward. You lose to sixteen Gardner Webb. You lose to the running BULLDOGS of Gardner Webb. You're you're done. You're done is mayor of fact, every UVA fan will be completely going. Well, should we fire our coach? I mean, we've won the ACC tournament. We keep winning the ACC. We've been in the top ten probably six straight years in a row, and oh, yeah. You keep losing to a sixteen seat as the only team in college basketball history to do that. So this is going to be very very interesting going forward. I I'm telling you this. This is gonna be fun the games being played in Columbia. So like, we just said how far do you think it is from Gaffney to Columbia? Right. I you're talking Susan gathered at Columbia on in all sincerity hour and thirty minutes. Maybe maybe our thirty because you've got to do a lot of back roads, whereas Charlotte, you can get to Colombian hour and ten. But. Telling you Gardner Webb that. All right. So a big thing that's been going on for a long time. And Mark garrison. Our very own Mark garrison from the WBZ newsroom is yo- said no love him from Charlotte at six has been following the story for a long time. I guess it started. I think last June or July, June July started it this investigation and just to look into whether or not all the coal ash dumped and buried in the lake Norman mooresville area. Is responsible for a cancer cluster? That has hit the area. And they're like there's an awful lot of people with thyroid cancer up in this area way. More than is expected for just a normal neighborhood or community say the size of Matthews or whatever. Way more. Serbian thyroid cancer. And now it turns out there, you know, I- cancer may also be a problem like actual eyeball cancer. That may also be linked to it. Duke Energy for all its parts has constantly said there is zero point zero zero zero link percentage link between the coal ash and the cancer. If there is a cancer cluster. And if there if there if there is a cluster, we're now responsible for even though we've buried tons upon tons of coal lash in the area. It's safe, and it doesn't cost cancer. Even though it's kind of radioactive. So the problem is. It actually has to make you wonder they're really does for those of you old enough that went through the entire situation with big tobacco. That's what they call RJ Reynolds, and all the big tobacco companies made marvels malls, and like salems all the big tobacco companies. They call them big tobacco. When they would sit there in front of congress and go like seriously like in congress in front in the nineties go I'm telling you are cigarettes, don't cause cancer. Nail cause cancer. There's no proof no link between cigarettes and cancer. And they set their on in front of a here in front of committees up in Washington and just said that the wave there's no link there's no link to the league, and they wound up losing a multibillion dollar. I to say it was a thirty billion dollar lawsuit. Big tobacco wound up losing and is essentially closed them in tobacco sales cigarette. Sales have never been the same. Duke Energy is the country's largest utility. Why people don't know that? The largest utility company in the country. North Carolina, South Carolina. I new I think Kentucky, Indiana, Florida were they're in charge of the power the energy. So. You just wonder what the end result of all this is going to be because they had another meeting up in the lake Norman area. The other night Duke University is now doing all kinds of studies trying to figure out the link, and if there is one between coal ash, and is it causing cancer. And at first glance, it appears that may be the case. So what we're gonna do when we come back. We're going to listen to Mark's report from last night because it is absolutely outstanding. And this is more than a more of a public service than it is an a news report. And then we're going to talk to Mark garrison directly about the story right now. Let's go to the WBZ newsroom and talked to Jeff Atkinson. Thanks, brad. President Trump.

"This stadium. A couple that were missed but all kickers falcons opponents thirty one of thirty one counts key from forty six out. Did you do it again? Don't blame the announcer ski. Good. How did that happen? It's Tony Romo again. I mean, even though Jim Nance said that Tony Romo said are you going to do it to him again? Yeah. Any did? I'm telling you Tony Romo needs to buy a lottery ticket the guy. He calls it all it's really hilarious. There's such a good team. I love them together. Let me guess joust. He doesn't miss. He did miss patriots. Arguably could have been up nine zero. Because remember there was another. Well, they missed that one. And then they missed a well they went on it for it on fourth and one in the second quarter. If they just kick there and ask you would have made it normally they would have been up nine zero which might have been a much sexier score then three zero now. Well, okay. Marginally so, wow, what a strange game but love this in the booth together. Great great, great great combo. All right. Number three is Sean McVay. This is the coach the wonder kind after the loss very honest about his coaching in the Super Bowl. I'm pretty numb right now. But you know, definitely I got out coach and I didn't do nearly good enough for a football team. Pretty blunt pretty fair. I mean, this was a really really tough day. Bella check, the master out the young gun. Well, and what ballot? Check is one of the things. He masters is adjustment. Yeah. He didn't need to make any yesterday. I mean, he. With the patriots plane below normal patriots level they were able to stay in the game at three zero at the half. Sean McVeigh was not able to make the adjustments on any part of you know, if you side of the ball, he'll learn from this for sure he's young. He's smart. He's got the energy. But this is this is tough. It's gonna take a while to get over. All right. Number four. The Rams tackle Andrew Whitworth had a strange optimistic way of looking at their loss to the patriots. This is Andrew Whitworth of the Rams after the loss. I don't give a crap if you have a hall of fame bust,.
Super Bowl 2019: Pregame coverage before Patriots vs. Rams
"The game, of course, is a big part of it. But also there are other sort of story lines beyond the the Rams and the patriots in a couple of them. There are interesting to me is I want to start Myron with with with gronk. He's kind of had a resurgence a little bit here in the playoffs starting to see a little bit of the gronk of bold wrestlemainia is the first Sunday in April. I'm of the belief that I'm going to see grog make his debut in the WWE it wrestlemainia and then his time in football. Is over. After today. Do you agree with that? And do you think that whatever happened today win or lose could have any effect either way? Well, I think that makes a lot of sense excuse me, especially because you're talking about a guy who can probably get millions of dollars on a pretty limited. Wrestling scheduled Cadillac around. Arousing Brock Leser, like it's not like the old days where he's going to have to wrestle three hundred days out of the year. This guy's going to get paid to show up on special events and make millions. He's talked so much about how much money he saved throughout his career. He's talked about not wanting to play too long. I don't know if today affects anything because he's a first ballot hall of Famer whether he wins or loses today, he's got a bunch of money in the Bank. And I think he could be the next rock in. In. I think he could be that. He's got a personality. You're not a wrestling guy. He's not the rock rock. Am wrestling. He could be that. Well, rock started out as what rocky my via. He was fighting from the family name. And then he emerged as his own way. I can't broadcast that personality in the WWE. We'll promote him. I think he could become a superstar who eventually goes in the movies and forgets football. All right. I I'm not going to argue with the wrestling part of it. But because you're wrong. But Dan, do you think this is it for I? Yeah, I do. But I do believe that tonight's result swings that okay? I can see if they lose tonight especially in close ballgame Brady convincing gronk for another year. Come back for another year. Don't forget is AO win the first round tackled. It's not part of this team. He'll be back. Like, we give me one more run. Gronk I can see that happening. Now, if they win I do believe that he calls it a career as he rightfully shit. Don't take don't. Remember, the comments he made this last week of him talking about the wear and tear, and how much it weighs on you. Mentally, and how hard it is to get hurt and have to practice, and how difficult it that difficult of a thing that is now to say that he's the next rock is absolutely outrageous. Like the row how first of all the rock is the rock was a guy that went into wrestling because that was the the the means to an end that was the vehicle. News and his family had been. He was going to you second of all the rock is incredibly business savvy and Hollywood savvy works like a dog like this is a guy. When it comes to football. Yes. When it comes to training for football. Yes. But he doesn't. I mean, the rock literally works like a dog. I need more talking about the rotten. Now. I saw the rock when he was in survivor series as rocky my via no one knew he wasn't good. And he was trying to figure out who he would be gronk could come in in the social media air, which rocketed the rock didn't come in in the social media era. All I'm saying is gronk could be a superstar in wrestling. Well, let me add gronk is only he's only twenty nine it feels like he's been around forever damnit. He's only twenty nine now he's taking a lot of hits bodies like a forty year old guy. But I guess what I'm saying is listen to countdown to kickoff on ESPN radio you've been through this process and Myron, and I haven't the process to decide you know, what that's it. Right. That's a hard process for every athlete. No matter the level, whether you're elite or not is it in part of it. I think is do I have something to go. Do do you think? I mean, we we talk about wrestling and a lot of people may roll their eyes. But it is something I know he can do if he wants whether it can be great or not he can do it is that talked to me about the process of saying I'm walking away. And and how how how players go through that mindset. Yeah. I mean for for me, you know, it was a great majority of it was I don't love the crap anymore. Doesn't it feel like he doesn't either? Yeah. I mean, that's that's no you're not gonna pay. Now granted if someone was going to pay me five million dollars. I would have dealt with it again, if someone's gonna pay gronk ten or twelve million dollars, maybe, but you get you deal with the crap. Like, so many people doing their job you do with that crap. Because you still love it. You love all the things that competition the locker room, the fellas the drive to be great the work, you love all that. And then once you don't love the dealing with the crap anymore that stuff doesn't matter anymore. It's not worth it anymore. And that's when you start facing the question of do I wanna do this anymore? And it makes it completely now. When I went through my transition, I wasn't for sure. Like, I was like all right. I want to get into analysts in broadcasting get into TV TV. And I was like I'm just gonna go rather than sitter sitting around. And wait. So I knew that there was at least the opportunity there for me. Gronk scan have way more. More than I had presented to him. But if you get to that point where you're done loving, the crap that you have to deal with and there are avenues for you to go. It makes it such an easier decision in move for you to go. You know what I'm done? Here's the next Chad having those options, I do think is is huge. You will have a lot of options. And you didn't know when you quit you're going to get to do a show with Matt Jones in my. But then sometimes I have earlier if I did exactly the Lord's blessing. There you are. So let's talk about the next to the players on the field. Maybe the person that has the most sort of its state today. Myron is your guy Tony Romo? I mean. I'm not sure an announcer has gotten this level of praise maybe ever like universal praise of people going Stephen Smith said is the best performance he'd ever seen from an announcer. And so the thing is that's awesome. Except you've got one more game. And I always of the opinion the most important two days in your life or the first in the last at a job. Well, the last impression he's gonna get from us is this game. Is there pressure on him to recreate the magic from two weeks ago? I think there's a ton of pressure on him to do that. And I think the problem is announcers like him who get this early praise. How many of them go down as being folks? And a lot of people don't like, you know, it's unfortunate because you start out liking guys like Tony Romo. He deserves all of this praise, but because you expect now people expect him to be some profit every game the minute. He shows any sort of flora weakness people are gonna jump onto that and start to criticize him. But I think he's facing more pressure than any announcer at a Super Bowl or any analysts had a Super Bowl that I can remember because people think he's like something we haven't seen before. And now he's going to have to deal with that pressure. Incomes care like most of the time. I'll be honest with you, Dan. I don't even know who the announcers are until I realized what network game is on. But with Romo I mean, there are prop bets on how many he's gonna call. Like, this is he is not the biggest story the game is. But you know, he's the second third or fourth. Biggest story. I think a big part of it too is like people are having a ton of fun listening to him. Torino because not only is he very good at what he does in. I've said this as a broadcaster networks you better have quarterbacks on there. Because you you've gotta be able to get people to understand the game different levels that communicated to all kinds of people. But it's the fact of he continuously telling educating people on the wise in house put it's fun. Like, you're having fun. Like John Madden was the last announcer. Who seemed like he was having as much fun as Romo, and it's it's okay. For him to talk over Jim Nance for a second. Because if you were sitting at a bar with your friends are in the living room having a beer with your friends. You talk over your buddy here in this moment. So it's not like this. You know in cookie cutter ish. Oh, we don't do that. Because it's television. But what happens if I'm saying is really good. Then I'm gonna do it. You know? And I think that there is that appreciation for for from people going like this is really good. And he's telling me stuff, that's really. Good. But also like the fact that there's really nobody else on TV sounding like him in ways. Like that like talking over Jim Nance, Jayme lake. It just seems like he's having a blast doing it. There are very few announcers who make the crossover into a personality that they matter Madden did mired. I'd say Barkley has vital. Did like there are many. And I think romo's headed groups, Dan Orlovsky will continue to be on. Would you agree with that? Yes. I think he is definitely in that group of guys where you go. You're now going to watch games because romo's attached to it doesn't matter the game because he's gonna make any game more interesting. Just because of who he is become he's become a part of the game now, and that's a good thing. Because like damn fed people. Like, I think I honestly think there are very few announcers that them just being there matters. I think John Madden. Did I think dick Vitale did Bill Walton? I think dick Vitale did. And I think I think Tony Romo is is sort of becoming like that who's going to win the game. After all this talk who actually is going to

"Gray. We're in the midst Super Bowl edition of trivial with the score as we are three to Los Angeles is up, but we still have the second second half of the second quarter to play for the for the patriots patron. Yes, we're you gotta go to Boston doing Lind. At least doesn't have to be exactly boxed to the greater the greater New England area, which goes from Maine to Connecticut. Virginia. If it starts getting too late. It might stretch all the way to South Carolina. People are Michigan. So. Triple eight nine hundred thirty three ninety three I'm kind of excited because the Super Bowl broadcast is going to be done by Jim Nance and Tony Romo and Romo has quickly. Become my favorite analyst as I think he has for a lot of people, but his AFC championship performance was unbelievable. Unbelievable. It was a treat. It was a game within a game. Really fun. Yeah. Because he was right. Every time. Well, I think they said he during the course of the game trying to think I think the I think they said he made eleven predictions got nine rain. I saw that that was either in the fourth quarter or the last half of the fourth quarter. Whatever it was where he got twelve out of fifteen right in one could have gone either way. So I'm going to round up thirteen maybe it was that thirteen out of fifteen minutes. Just reading studying studying knows the gaming knows what he knows the formations. He knows defense is going to do with the offense should do. Right. And so when they don't do what is what he thinks. They should do. That's when he gets it wrong. Right. When something goes wrong for the quarterback or the quarterback doesn't see what he sees. Right or whatever, the even the replays. They round up saying he didn't see him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yes, fascinating. All right. We got Mary in New England Mary. Hey, mary. Mary. Mary. All right. Don't you know? What are you? Are you are you working for pod? Or no. Murray, Mary chick pump six I hear those a problem. Hello. Well, I'm thinking we don't have. Yes. She just put the phone down. And she's doing something else. Checking maybe putting Mary on. She's gone. We'll see if we lost her. We lost her. After that bonding experience, we lost her that hurt that really does hurt. It really does hurt. We lost her. I was reading an article about how Tony romo's up pre-game experiences where he starts blasting out songs for him in gymnasts gym dance and nance's family, and they FaceTime before the game. And Tony starts singing for Nance kids. And he's a fascinating guy. He really is. He's a he's a fascinating guy. It'll be interesting to see how he does the Super Bowl eight humble guy to as I said earlier when they asked him what percentage he thinks he gets right during the game. He said twenty I don't know twenty twenty twenty one brand because he's excited about seventy percent right of that. Yeah. And he's just excited. What's joy about him? Is that he does seem like he's still enjoys the game itself. Which makes makes the better most of the time. I don't listen to the announcers is rare. I turn it up sometimes to hear if I say what's going on trying to figure out what's going on a penalty call or something but events. Game turn the volume down times. Yeah. Really? Why can't take? The announcers drive me. Crazy what come on? That's the best part of it. When I when I hear a used to be when I heard Pat Summerall and John Madden. Speaking was like, I was home again game. I didn't care what game. It was if I had him on in the background. It just made me feel good. That's true. That's true. But I still Joe buck and Troy Aikman. The like him Aikman. Yeah. That's a thinking the singer for a second. Yeah. But but I really like Nansen and Romo best in best football a hundred percent. So it's going to be fun to watch. When he is contract is up and to see what they offer him when he renegotiates his his deal because I think they probably got him fairly, cheap, cheap one or two million. I know what they're paying him right now. But when John Madden hit it big. He was making eight million dollars. When Pat Summerall was making too, right? I think it could be a similar situation. I would say that eight million would be a cheap as well..

Have that kid watch because he's a big he's the big on the fifth grade team. I'm like you. This is how you do a kid. I was looking at the stat line and just trying to get caught up on who did what how about Draymond green. Murph fifteen boards, fifteen season high and as curse said after the game if he had to point to one thing in the nine game win streak Draymond assist to turnover. See Eighty-one assists, fourteen turnovers in the ninth game win streak. That's crazy talk. That's an average of nine times in one turnover. A game people. This is crazy. All the important questions as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson go head to head in The Match
"He had a dinner with Tony Romo. And that was Tigers. Pro-am partnered Pebble Beach back in two thousand twelve and he went to dinner with Tony Romo just to bother. Tiger woods. So Phil said that you know, Tigers partner was Tony Romo and that night before the final round Saturday was big dinner. The Jim Nance put on I got seated next to Tony. We had a great night had a lot of fun. But I knew it would bother tiger that I had dinner with his partner. Tony knew this would also bother him. So he said, it was caddy do not mention that we had dinner last. Knight. Phil don't bring up the dinner. We're on the I t I IT off tiger tees off. I wait before I walk off because I want to distance myself between me and Tony. So I could say it loud enough. So as we're walking off the first TI yell out. Hey, Tony, Tony that was so much fun. Last night. I loved the dinner that was the greatest and tiger looks at him and said, you know, giving that look like that was a big deal Mickelson called her a moment that he laughs with tiger about now. But at the time, it was pretty intense. Mickelson ended up winning. But isn't that what we're all hoping for this weekend at the matches that one of them goes a little real in jab like UFA, like when I want a guy puts one in the weeds and just has a little Ouch. Just enough to. Okay, now, it's real, and it's a real competition because that's what ever wants. I hope we have some of that. Because tiger never let you in. It's rare when he let you in. But if he does then I'd love to hear the sense of humor, see the sense of humor or just to see a subtle dig their or the gamesmanship that goes on in what you would think they would be really wanting to say like if you had thought bubbles this time. You don't have thought bubbles. You just actually had their thoughts. That's what would be great Friday after thanksgiving.

"Hello friends. This is Jim Nance a true tradition. Unlike any other Waddle and Silvy on ESPN one thousand JD here in a minute. It's a football Friday. There's also some intriguing college matchups the bulls inaction a couple of times this week in they'll get trae young tomorrow, the rematch with the Hornets tonight. The hawks are off to a good start. Nice win last night so much to discuss. Yeah. You said something just interesting thirty seconds ago during the break. Yeah. That you're interested in their reluctance. Oh, yeah. Sitting these guys who are being done. I just I'm intrigued by the potential reluctant reluctant to sit a couple of guys not because it's the jets again, let me say this emphatically not because it's the jets, and then it's the bills. But because when you put the film on what you see is virtually no production. Now, maybe they're seeing something different. But Alan Robinson is really struggling. He's a hell of a player. He's struggling to create separation. He wasn't even in the game. The last few series Khalil Mack. I think universally our. Of the belief that he's not giving them anything, right? Shootout one solo tackle one. Against the dolphins. And then one helper against the patriots last week. I want to see him back to being dominance for the second half of the season as opposed to seen a guy that's not close to one hundred percent. And then we brought up a good point house JD about this to here. From November eleventh through November twenty second the bears play three games three games in eleven days. So if you continue to play these guys with nagging injuries. How will they be holding up playing a game on a Sunday another game on a Thursday? They or they would they play the lions then the Vikings the following week. And then the lines again on thanksgiving. Twenty Sackville's are three division three division games in a span of like eleven or twelve day. Yes. So that's what I'm saying. You want them to be better by then for the quicker turnaround. Again, let me reemphasize what I've said I'm not looking at this game in suggesting that maybe this time to get a couple of guys healthy because it's the jets. That's just a fortunate byproduct. I just look at what I see. All right JD joins us right now. He's brought to you by your Chicagoland and northwest Indiana Acura dealers test drive, the new twenty nine thousand nine RDX. So stay tuned for that will both games your home for the MLB postseason ESPN one thousand speaking of baseball Waddell, Gordon, whitmire heady, very interesting article today with chili Davis quotes, good article. Yeah. Yeah. Chilly. It's interesting things to say, let me read you the juiciest stuff. Okay. Is from chili Davis. I guess I need to make some judgments in the way deliver. My message to the millennial players now and need to make those adjustments for the next job. I get if there is one, but regardless of who's their meeting with the cubs certain players. There are going to have to make some adjustments because the game's changed in pitchers pitching them differently. They're not pitching to launch angles and fly balls in all that anymore. They're pitching away from that. They're going to have to make that adjustment. Whether I'm there or not. Why they feel stressed about launching that? It's not going away is ENA fad chilies telling you that. Well, people are treating but maybe our pitchers pitching differently to adjust to the emphasis on launch angles. Again, you really change how you approach pitcher. I think that's the problem is I think chilies philosophy. There's a reason some of the cubs hitters were probably tuning him out because that go the other way hit a single it doesn't work anymore in this day and age because it's harder to hit singles, you have more guys striking out. It's hard to advance runners over you need three singles to score a run as opposed to running into one and hitting a home run one hit one home run one run three singles how about how pitchers may be approaching their craft differently. Knowing that hitters are more focused on launch angles and doing what you just said. There's always an adjustment to the right while there may be they may be more susceptible to strike outs. The problem is though I think with more guys throwing heat. You're you're seeing what the brewers bullpen more these days. There's it's not like harder throwers are going away. I think that you're just going to see more of this throughout baseball. How about this quote Davis this I is Gordon saying Davis at high praise for veteran. Ben zobrist who had a big bounce back here it twenty eighteen but when asked about some others said and that going to say anything about other players interesting. And then this this line. He also said something about the delivery. He's going to have to change the delivery of his message players or or, but but the delivery is how you present it. So do you have a conflict with them? Not. I don't know. This is this was the first quote that I read I guess I need to make some adjustments in the way I deliver. My message to millennial players now need to make those judgments for the next job. I get if there is one let me read you this, quote, I learned a lot this year. He added I learned that the next situation. I get in before he say, yes. To job I need to make sure I know the personnel dealing with the. Clubhouse. I hope the next guy connects better with the players because I felt there were multiple players. They're a dinette connect with it wasn't that. I didn't try it just wasn't there. Sounds like they tuned him out. That's what I mean. I mean, I don't know if it's the message that they were resisting or the messenger. That's why I said Willie someone brought up this that it was Theo's want to bring in Chile. The oh said I'm going to hire chili Davis and fired John mailing not because they don't like John maley. But because here's the one guy that I wanted. Someone tweeted to me and said did not do a good enough job telling his players to follow along to be coached. Now. I am more of the belief that this was if you are going to take the chili Davis approach you're doing it with the wrong team. This is a slugging team. This is a home run hitting team that I always told you this season. I always felt that this was more of a square peg in round hole thing it wasn't the right fit with the Benz Oprah's bends over senior lineup then. You can play like that. He study selling your sold his powers gone down every year in these three ten I don't think the other guys have that ability. They mash they hit home runs. So. I don't know. I don't know if they if they have guys who aren't coach able or willing to learn or do they have guys who were taught a certain way Chris Brian's dad taught Kris Bryant young age. She said Ted Williams me you're gonna you're gonna swing uppercut. It's the launch angle swing. It's not ground ball line drives its line drives fly ball. It sounds like this group of hitters didn't want to. Subscribe to the manner in which Chile was trying to get them to hit the opposite field stuff. It sound like they wanted to stick with what they thought worked for them in previous years. That's what it sounds like to me. That chilly. Tried tried tried to get this young group of hitters to do it his way, but they didn't want to. I think the most interesting story with the cubs will be we know that feel is never scared to fire the hitting coach this will be the cubs. Six different hitting coach in Theo's now upcoming it will be as eighth season. Six hitting coaches in baseball seasons. Is he willing to fire players he stayed with the same players the same core. Who is he willing to sell this off season? In trade is you've got more invested in players than you do in coaches because these are the guys that you have value weight and then your player evaluation skills become part of the conversation as opposed to hitting coach pitch. True true. But wait, there's more stubbornness, and there's less I there's probably much longer. Can you continue to wait on everybody? You're gonna go back to. I mean, you I owe you and I think both. Gray that there's no way that I'll Mora and hap insurer and Russell and keep naming some of the younger guys are all going to be back that this group, Leslie all be back. No, I don't think they will. Because I think that there are other guys in free agency that they'd rather have on their team that they can pay that will take bats away from those guys more on this tomorrow also want that brought to you by Hawthorne, race course, watching waver a wager on Hawthorne, race course, under the lights. Yeah, I think winnow quit is when we give up the show. So I think when we give up the show, I just go away. Social media? We always no, but I mean, basement tapes the I. But I wonder as you're reading that story about Brooks, I thought I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Lotta people send thoughts and prayers on social media. Now, what does that get you thoughts and prayers. Every time we have a shooting or a disaster, hurricane thoughts and prayers tempted to write back to those people really want you send a little money along with that. Yeah, nobody is. Well, it is a valid point. It worth. Is it worth your time that you spend on it engaging in it. I find that people like Bill McDonald and aunts and Jim Nance, and Gus Johnson generally tend to be happier when they're not in it? Well, I think I think this long as we have show, I think it's a valuable tool to do the show at it is.
