"Looking at that. They're looking at that cincinnati group. They got boyd and higgins. And i'm a big body like auden tate. I mean you're just trying to figure out what fits your team back. So i mean maybe get a little feedback from joe and that that's a great story but you gotta look those other guys as well because just just talking to my friends around the league. I mean everyone's got those guys in a different order. Your march is not the presumptive number one wide receiver so They're all very talented all right. Let's let's talk about the guy who for many has been the presumptive number one tack on that would be a soul and we've made it a conversation about soul versus chase with some kyle pits. Talk mixed in you. Have sean slater on your draft board rank higher than pineda soul. Can you go into why. Yeah i mean it's all going back to last summer and we watched him. I think that Again anytime i have this conversation. It looks like you're knocking penicillin. I'm really not trying to. I just feel like the media kind of put the goal jacket on honestly and then nobody wants to take off. Jimi you have no idea i. In december till in cincinnati now. Hey he's the next. Anthony munoz and i'm like number one unfair to the kid and number two. You never watch. Anthony munoz blake one hundred one hundred percent. So that's a complete disservice dependent tool and you're right. I mean you're talking about one of the top. Five tackles in the history of football. What are we. What are we doing so no need to really good prospects. But i mean even the guys. I've done over the last twenty years the tyrant smith the joe thomas like i don't put him up with those guys He's a really good player. He's gonna come in and start for somebody and be a really good player but again i've later over him slightly. I think You know. I like him as a finisher. A little better i think he's. He's played better high in competition. If you if you go through pennies went up against over his career at in the pac twelve at the next level talent He went up. Against and i think a lot you tucker from. Usc the more work done on him since the senior bowl i kinda circle the wagons on him because he was not eligible for our game That guy's really good player to Of them have prototype. Tackle measurable stall. These guys have shorter arms. That shows up with tape now. that that's one of the knocks on for that i have is that he gets over extended. He reaches the london. You can clean that up with with with technique work but but he gets out linked and So he's not like the perfect prospect. He's a really good player. But the fact it like. I said we're a goes back to my time in new england and maybe this goes all the way back to parcels but would make a comment and skopje only in the draft room..

"We feel very grateful and you know. The senior bowl is always an incredibly important part of the The pre draft process was it for you know for the nfl folks for the players that you were able to get involved in it. Was it more important this year just because of the circumstances because of no combine because a lot of these kids didn't get to you know or at least some of the kids didn't get to have a fall season was was even more important of an event. You know this time around Yeah i think it was. I think that's fair to say you know. I think smart teams have really moved away from combine evaluations. To be honest. i'm their gotten back there. Really the value of the combine is for the medicals the interviews Not as much on the on the workout stephanie. More i mean i was a part of teams that get burned by that stuff evaluating guys in shorts and t shirt so You know i. I really think. The teams are really focusing on our week. And the other all star games because it's actual real football but no it certainly surly more important and we told our we told our hundred thirty six guys when a guy here during a unique position because they're probably only hundred thirty six guys in this draft cycle That are going to be interviewed. Face-to-face with plexiglass obviously this year but interviewed face-to-face with all thirty two teams and be evaluated on the field for an entire week. And just that that that exposure to these decision makers is absolutely critical. I mean they're going to try to pull off road as this spring. But that's you know that's going to be mostly scouts crisscrossing the country doing that. It's not going to be gm's director level guys. The guys are going to be making the calls in april so Now it is without without the combine this year win without a normal day circuit Game in the nfl pa game. This was yeah. I do feel like the game took on a more.

"Couple of things for you today. I were going to go through my selections in my first three round. Mock drafted big blue. Those of you. Who are familiar with the site. Know that traditionally each year. At this time i do weekly mock drafts using simulator making picks for the giants and go through some of those. We'll go through some of the parameters in some of the The the reasons for why. I do this the way that i do. And we'll talk about some of the picks that i made in this in this first. Mock that that. I've done also a little bit later on having interview with senior bowl executive director. Jim nagy that you're not going to want to miss as he talks about some of his favourite players from senior bowl week a couple of weeks back and some guys that that could be good fits for the giants guys that that you need to pay attention to and and study up on as we as we approached the Twenty twenty one. Nfl draft all right. Let's let's do this first. we'll talk about. We'll talk about my first three round draft. I used the pro football network simulator. There are several simulators out. There draft network has a simulator. I believe pro. football focus has a simulator. There are a couple of other. There's a fan speak simulator out there so there are plenty of choices and as we go through this Approaching the draft. I'll probably use various simulators to do this. One of the things that i try to do as i build these mock drafts. This one happens to be three rounder. You know maybe as we go along as i learn prospects a little bit more will go four rounds. Five rounds may be a full seven rounds but One of the things that i try to do is present different scenarios as we sit here in the middle of february. I'm not absolutely trying to predict the players that i think the giants will draft them trying to present different scenarios different ways that the draft could on fold and and and get opportunities to To talk about different players and different different ways to fill what we see as potential needs for the giants and obviously at this time of year. Although we love to talk about mock drafts. We love to discuss the draft. Were handicapped a little bit because free agency comes before the draft and we don't know what teams will do. We don't know if the giants will sign a top tier wide receiver. We don't know if they'll be able to To find some edge rushing help or cornerback help or or what they might do the free agency. We don't know yet what players they're going to To to move on from that are currently on their own roster as well but the speculation is fun. We know you enjoy it. I enjoy it so with all of that said. Let's get to To my picks in this first edition of our mock draft in in the first at number eleven i chose jalen waddell wide receiver from alabama. The reality was the other three receivers. Devante smith jomar chase. Kyle pits of florida. Were off the board also off. The board were cornerbacks. Patrick thirteen and caleb farley. That left waddell at eleven. And perhaps some of the edge rushers perhaps rashawn slater of of northwestern. I have said repeatedly throughout the off season that the biggest need for the giants going into twenty twenty one is to find weapons for quarterback. Daniel jones is his third season. So here i pretty much went with the chalk. Pick went with the the pick that that most of the mock drafts would make in this situation as well. I went with waddell the explosive wide receiver out of alabama guy. That's got returnability on kickoffs as well. So we we went right to write to the the biggest need with the best player available to fill that need in round two. I went with jalen phillips edge. Rusher out of miami at number forty three and here. This was really for me was a choice between phillips productive edge. Rusher out of miami. And jason alway of penn state another highly regarded talented edge. Rusher with a lot of traits long arms ability to bend some good explosion off the edge but a guy that had no real production at penn state in twenty twenty and i went with philips although he's got an injury history concussion history had retired once took a year off while he was at miami has had wrist injuries that required surgery. I went with philips. I mean this is a guy who has all of the traits that you want showed the ability both to rush standing up and with his hand in the ground at miami. He's got the long arms he's got the size he's got the ability to bend. The edge had nine sacks twenty nine hurries. Eighteen run stops this year for miami. I could not ignore that production in my story. A big you. i said you know. in this particular scenario. It wouldn't surprise me for the giants to pick away for the simple reason. That defensive line coach sean. Spencer coached away at penn. State knows the player knows exactly what the giants would be getting in if the giants were to pick away. I'm certain it would come with a strong recommendation from sean spencer. So but but i can't ignore the production so at number forty three. I went with phillips at seventy six for the giants in the third round. I took cornerback. Greg newsom out of northwestern six one one ninety held wide receivers to a thirty one point seven passer rating against when he was targeted in twenty. Twenty guy that has the the link the athleticism to play some man coverage and give giants option across from james bradberry yet a position where the giants needed or really had a revolving door in twenty twenty and needed some help going forward. So pretty much in this mock..

"Hey paul big fan. How's it going. I am doing great thank you. that's awesome. Hey i'm sure you can get. I'm about asking this question. But i wanna get your thoughts on their ability to be alabama able to pull it off. You know key. I taught last season going into the year. They had a shot. I didn't realize. And then i started to wonder about it because i didn't think all mrs defense could hold on but i don't think so. No i think. I think alabama will be a maybe a hair below. Where they they were few weeks ago. But you're going to have to convince me that. All mrs defense has improved enough now. Can you do that. I got a good recruiting class. So i'm hoping within the next three years the outset alabama and and matt crawls gotta stop throwing interceptions by. I mean we all. We always have hope in oxford. Well that's that's why almost fans are so great. I mean they Teams no good. It's not going to get in the way keaton. i hope i'm pretty confident lane. "But more, you know, more to what we're talking about here on the football side of things. You know what I really wanted to do was create something as close to a NFL personnel department is I could. So, you know, one thing we did last year that we'd never done in the past year was, we hired a staff of former NFL scouts, the scout the country, and we have four guide, they'd sixty nine years of NFL experience. So, you know, that was important to me, because it gave me sets of is all around the country, that I, I knew what they were looking at there were well connected with among the scouting community, but also the agent community and at the schools. So, you know, again, because we don't have an NFL budget. You know, our guys can't get out and travel a bunch. You know, they can't you know they couldn't get on planes. They couldn't stay night to know tell so really wherever we could get to driving distance and get back home that night. That's that's you know that's what we did. So, you know, one thing we're really proud of, of one hundred. Fourteen guys we invited to last year's game. We saw one hundred and five of them live in games. So that was that was huge to have that to have that staff in place. And again, they were all under contract with their teams couldn't pay him a huge. You know, huge salary really anything to live off. So it was important. We found some guys that were still under contract. You know, we went through the right channel that contacted the reformer GM's and, and they were they were okay with it, and, you know, then working with us so that, that worked out, great, you know. And we really had a tighten it staff. We, we did conference calls all the time. I got him senior bowl geared, aware and business cards and emailed, and really tried to make it as an official position as possible. You know, so that was that was really big. And you know, we, we built out the roster last year probably about eighty percent of it. And then I called around seventeen of the third pretty two teams so we could thanksgiving and we kind of let the league help help us shape the back into the roster gonna want to bring in the guys they wanted to see because again this is for those thirty two teams not for not for us. So really tried to give the NFL some official feedback on this thing, which they never had before. So that was, you know, that was a big part of the process, and like you to looted to this being an important stage. It's the example I used in the in the orientation last year with the players, I use the example of Isaiah win. And you know they win the tackle from Georgia two years ago. He comes to the senior bowl with a partially torn labrum, and he has two great days, the practice, especially in one on one. Period. And then he tear that tears tears labor them fully estimate. The combine mistpro day. Never runs. Never done anything else. And he probably came into the senior bowl. Most teams probably second third round grades on it and he ended up a first round pick..

"Dr toe, and five and go five and five, but I honestly felt like Marty Schottenheimer should have won coach of the year that year considering the you know what we were playing with what the roster looked like. And as young as we were in, you know, just trying to get things turned it instead he gets a pink slip. So just that's kind of that's the Redskins in a in a nutshell, though over the last twenty five years. I I really felt like mardi was going to get that team turned around really quickly. But yeah, so what what they wanted me to do the new regime that got brought it. And they wanted me to I just moved my fiance out to the west coast. We're living in Arizona doing the west coast and you know didn't even didn't even. Have a ring on her finger when we moved, and they wanted me to move to Washington and work in how they I don't know if they felt like I was ready to be on the road. I was twenty six years old. You know, maybe I wasn't you know in hindsight him. It's a grind and, you know, but they wanted me to move in house, and, and work in Washington. And I said, well, I just moved it's girl a year ago. She's now, my wife of, of sixteen years. But is there any way that I can, you know, look for something else that would keep me on the west coast and then God that how I didn't know a lot of people around the league? But I I call Jason light from is working at the patriots at the time the GM and the buccaneers now. And just calling the people that I knew, and see if they had anything open and thank God Jason. Yeah. We actually have a west coast opening being go down and talk to Scott, the elderly, and he calls back. Five minutes later. He's like, yes. Got like to bring in for an interview and when out there a couple of days later and got that job. So I didn't I didn't have to. To, to DC able to stay out in Phoenix and due west coast for the patriots. That's awesome. So what's interesting to me about that? Jim is Crimea from wrong. But the patriots typically like to hire guys with no experience. Right. They don't they almost don't want you to have worked for another organization because they want you to teach they want to teach you their ways rather than whatever was in your head from Green Bay in Washington, my off on that or is that kind of that kind of accurate. Yeah..

"I know a lot of it and actually looked up some of it, but I prefer to let my guest kind of tell the story of where you grew up. You know what did you play and kind of how did you how did you into this business? Yeah. Well, we got a little time. Usually doesn't fit radio show. It's doing podcast. No, I grew up in northern Michigan and a place called traverse city you know, people like that's how I got into scouting, and I tell him really in the NFL, the only advantage that I had with that, I knew and I wanted to do from the time out about six or seven years, old, honestly, grew up around the game of football, and my dad was a coach then what he's stepped away from teaching and coaching we moved to a new town and just by chance there, the kid who I became best friends with his dad was the varsity coach at that school. So just, you know, grew up, you know, two days and, you know, being the equipment manager when I was in elementary school, and running water bottles out at time out and all that stuff that just grew up around the game and then grew up playing it. You know, played a lot of baseball and basketball in high school as well. And when I got done with high school, my only opportunities. To keep playing with with small school football division two division three. So this was pre internet. You couldn't just get on and Google, you know how to become an NFL scouts. So I had no clue. It was just, you know, I idea what I was doing. And I got waitlisted at the university of Michigan. So I was really planning to go play division three football. And once I got into Michigan, I figured, oh, well, that's how people must do it. They must work for, you know, a big, big powerhouse football program or something like that. I really again, just had no idea. And then I went to Michigan for, for four years. My last two I went down and volunteered. And the Atlantic department did a lot with the football team did some stuff on the weekends with the basketball team networks would come into town to make a little money. And then I get sent out resumes and cover letters, really. And back then there was no internships, and the scouting side of things and your only your only way to get your foot in the door was through the. Office. So then out resumes and cover letters to all the PR department through on the league got rejection, letters back from all of them, and except for the Packers and the Packers called and, and brought me over there for training camp. And it was the year. They won the Super Bowl in ninety six and at the end of camp they needed they needed extra help for the year. So they asked me to stay on. And really that was the it was an unbelievable year and all I did was whenever I was done with, with my PR responsibilities for the day. If I've got a break in the day, I would go up to the scouting department, and, you know, bother John Schneider, and Reggie McKenzie to sit and watch tape with those guys and there was five future GM's on that staff. So it was just one of those right place, right time, meet the right people type of thing. And, you know, when you when you broke in not out of Princeton in Washington, that year that was my first year on the road is a scout. John Schneider had been hired to be the right hand guy for mardi Schottenheimer. And in John..

"Here's part one well as promised extremely excited about today's guests a guy that I guess I kind of knew since my rookie year and two thousand one I think he might be the only person I was ever a member of Turgen ization with in the scouting part of it. At least it's kind of funny, we never really talked about it, and really ever only had a couple of conversations, but he is now the executive director of the senior bowl does a terrific job there. I mean, the senior bowl has just taken off and he didn't outstanding job this past year and was a scout for almost twenty years before that he is Jim Nagy, Jim, what's up man? Iran. Sorry about, hey, I gotta start with this because I go over this all over this all the time with matinee being from where I'm from in Pennsylvania. Nagy nagy. What are we going with? I go Nagy because it's easier you know, I'm not one of the I could go the other man. Really? Honestly, it whatever whatever's give you I'm fine. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna split hairs over it. I'm good. It's funny, because that's been like a major issue in Chicago, where half. The people say, Nagy half the people say Nagee, and I guess Matt told people it's actually like, hey, like Nagy. So it's actually even if it's even harder. It's in between. Well, if you go back to the motherland in Hungary, it's pronounced nudge. So, yeah, it's kind of obscure name here in the United States, but it's actually Smith. If you go over to Hungary, it's the most common surname over there. So. Yeah, we'll, we'll go, what whatever works raw down. All right. So I wanna start Jim we're gonna make this a two parter because I wanna to do a whole episode just on the senior bowl and what an event and business. That's become. "Cities and all star games the thing that separates our game is is how much probably the locals do take you really do feel that kind of that hometown you know just that that that small town feel that hometown they roll out the red carpet like you said just different than some of the other games so yeah absolutely we take a lot of pride down here and put on to send you full for the night owls i think we gotta ask this out of that thirty million how much money is polling in when when we're not in town because i feel like when we're there everybody that works within the nfl of the nfl media's v8's and we always wonder is anyone else here the rest of the year yeah there's a little binge drink in the goes on that's been the greatest honestly the greatest thing about living living down here in the last eleven years is that i have an easy out of beets i don't have to go i don't have to get caught up down there i i have a family to go home too so no it's funny once i got the job i mean obviously people reach out congratulate you and the the two biggest requests were front row seats at the way in and some sort of vip section of beat them to go or work we're working on that for those guys it used to be so much bigger now it's just that hallway you know we need we need both sides opened back up we talk a lot about mobile and have a curse a lot of our listeners who want to get into the media side or the pro side of scouting to make the drive down there you know i i know several guys who got their their break in this industry whether it's on our side of your side just from the go down there because it's a big job fair so as an insider who where's that one like goto restaurant that none of us know about like everybody knows about one those what's your hidden jim for mobile restaurants well you know the causeway on mobile bay that crosses baldwin county and mobile counties down here there's a lot of great seafood and all those places the blue gill the house and.

"Across the league right now i mean a ton of guaranteed money we know it's a long term deal most importantly this gives the cowboys the next two years of that really really good starting offense of line maybe longer if you continue to keep that core together there and you pose the question the rundown how long can the cowboys keep this window open listen it is crazy but it really comes down to obviously defense continuing to get better but what dak prescott are we going to get i know this offense of line is one of the best in the league top to easily and i know zeki leli a full season him is going to be a lot of fun no does brian anymore you've got hearns in there it's fine the defense is getting better like i said what dak prescott are we going to get and now with this move locking offense line you'd like to bet that it's the guy that played like a top fifteen quarterback recently and i might be one of those weird people that actually i feel like i'm on team dak because i look at what he did is rookie or and then what he did when zeke was in the lineup last year and he did it with does bryant kind of being a head case dropping a lot of balls and not being able to separate so i still i still believe the dak prescott can be a franchise quarterback i think doug prescott could win you a super bowl if you give him enough pieces and i think we'll find out this year if that's the case but like i asked in the rundown what what is the window here i don't believe that zeke elliott ever gets resigned there maybe he gets franchised once and then they let him walk i don't think demarcus lawrence is back after this year so build your strength and that's the offensive line we have a great running back you can just run into the dirt like a rental car and then let him go you have a quarterback who's not going to turn the ball over and if they've drafted well a defense they probably can string something together here but i'm with you i think that run is about two years before we get to the.

"Man like imagine you're in good shape you work out imagine trying to play tackle football against no shame real life nfl diddy lightning one up so i felt like he did take it easy here's what's funny in it's kind of okay it's not just funny it's kind of sad i guess but so he gets hurt is like the games you know he had they have to score to tie the game and it's this big moment right and he gets tackled as he just truck sticks people into the end zone but then he gets hurt right so he's laying on the turf and she runs over and is so distraught made for tv let's it's not they bring a fucking ambulance out dude he broke his wrist yeah probably like a hairline fracture brought an ambulance for wristinjury is so it's like how everybody you can jump the shark they did it but they did play some football so i was thinking about like tweeting out scouting reports during the navy we can get you on their next year to you don't my friends all say that and i i don't think so i think my girlfriend would kill me i don't think i could handle that it'd be tough guy from pro football focus on so you on there i don't think bus then i'd have to leave you during the spring and that would not be good for the further brand it would not be that's true maybe yeah so you said they wore hockey helmets something we want to talk about with is what's going on with the stanley cup right now alex ovechkin and the entire capitals team is throwing an absolute party and this is unlike any sport where like the super bowl trophy doesn't go on this you know when team wins the world series it doesn't happen like this what and you raise a great question on twitter that guy a lot of responses what would you do with the stanley cup so you had one week with the cutlery even one night out with the stanley cup what would you do with it i would do exactly what obese been doing it just drinking out of it yes the champagnes ville was unbelievable let's talk about our brand here the dudes doing keg stands out of the stanley cup he stood up he holds twenty three and a.
