"Suitors with deep pockets are apparently lining up to buy the Washington commanders. This week team owner Dan Snyder dropped that bombshell that football fans in the city have been dreaming of when he said he's hired Bank of America to explore transactions involving the team. This morning, Daniel Kaplan, senior NFL writer for the Atlantic on who might be the next owner and what it would take to get a deal done here. Obviously if Jeff Bezos wants this, it's his. He is the deepest pocket of almost anyone in the country. But the way the formal process will work is the snyders have hired an investment bank. The investment bank will recruit potential bidders of bidders will come to Bank of America. The NFL will approve those bidders forbidding process will be set up by financials of the team will be shared. Deadlines will be set up for bids, and eventually they'll be best and final offers. As was the case with the Denver Broncos, the Walton family, which had the deepest pockets there. It was a foregone conclusion when that process started who was going to win that team. And I think if Bezos is an interested, that's who's going to get this team. But let's say it's not Jeff Bezos. Let's say it is someone else we've heard Byron Allen, the media mogul. He's been bandied about, and I believe he was actually in on the bidding for the Denver franchise if I'm not mistaken. What kind of owner are the other owners looking to bring in if not the person with the deepest pockets? Well, let me first say they are looking for the person with the deepest pockets, not just because a high price improves the value of their franchises, but they want to make sure the owner has enough money to build a new stadium, fund new facilities, pay a salaries. So obviously diversity is a big issue for the NFL. They would love to have a general partner who's a minority, but absent that, they would like to see diversity in the ownership group. What do you think happened behind the scenes to make this a possibility? Well, first the caveat is we don't know for sure that he is selling the team. He talked about options just a few weeks ago. I always told he was looking for a minority partner. But at the NFL owner's meeting last week, Jim Murphy, Indianapolis Colts owner, made some very forceful comments that he thought Snyder should be ousted. Other owners have similar sentiments. I don't know if it's enough to push

"Underlying tension that gave all their arguments and extra spark. It wasn't just longtime viewers who got caught up gene riders drama even their co workers found themselves pulled into it at times. Jim murphy a producer and director on the show remembers a special episode of cisco neighbor that went through nineteen rounds of editing and even then gene and roger were still arguing about the results every screener they saw either gene. Got too much of this roger. Got much that. I thought we should be used this part. I thought we should use that part. You know it's hard to get through that when you have two wrong people saying like you know i'm not accepting it unless it has this are i'm not accepting it. Lets you take that out. So i do remember those being immensely frustrating at times but they always got done in the end. There's sort of gene factions and roger factions among the staff or was it all kind of unified at times. People would agree with one or the other more to each other. We would grouse about either gentlemen's personality peculiarities. Because they were very different the each of their own pet peeves and annoying habits and things like that but as a team we sort of all backed the both viewers though tended to side with one critic over the other. There were gene fans and roger fans and even today you see people on twitter taking sides but in order for the show to succeed it needed both critics and all the animosity that came with them. Disney even played it up when promoting the show. One commercial consisted of the two critics sitting in a theater and complaining about one another. He occasionally tells me what i think. And he's only occasionally right. You persistent thinking that. He's a better from critic. Cries me crazy for the critical difference. It's the school and ebert and the movies. Gene and roger were so comfortable being public enemies that some people assumed it was all an act in nineteen ninety-seven. The critics appeared on the cover. Chicago magazine next to a headline that read is the feud of fraud. It's a question. Some of their friends and coworkers still get s. Today was all that fighting just for show the answer. No definitely no. Gene and rogers relationship was tricky. Mix of resentment and affection that even decades later is hard to sort out without having them here to explain it to us. One thing is clear. Though the friction between gene and roger was genuine. They'd started out as cross town rivals and become national rivals and they were very different. Men in terms of interests and attitude when you put two people with the combat of history and conflicting personalities in front of tv cameras and keep them there for nearly twenty five years. Their frustrations are going to come to the surface. When chas hebrew began dating roger nine hundred eighty nine. She'd sometimes visit the set when the critics were taping an episode. I would see some of the knockdown drag out fights. They had when they were filming. And i could see that gene knew how to push rogers buttons and get him to respond angrily about something because you know. Sometimes roger felt that gene wasn't woolliness white or sometimes. Roger thought the gene thought. The roger was being to bossier or to exacting about something but they still even then they got along they when they were not at the studio when they were just sitting around as france they were acting. You know they act like brothers to me. That's how many of gene rogers family members and co workers saw them as spiritual siblings. Who fought the way brothers. Do in the mid eighties. They sat down with talk. Show host gary collins who brought in a clinical psychologist to try to get at the bottom of the rivalry. They agreed there was something brotherly about their dynamic after all even was the only child and his family and cisco the youngest in his and by many years maybe that explain their mutual need for attention. The need to always be right. Other than that many breakthrough. They didn't make a whole lot of progress. I think one of the things we disagree about and talking about this which one of us was the older brother who is the other. One is the younger bruce. I'm four years older than three. And a half that even in for a half a year toward the end of the segment. Gene points out that if anyone were to ever get to the bottom of his relationship with roger the show would be doomed. They knew their little blowups gave their tv appearances attention. Their competitors could never duplicate those are. The critics didn't have gene and rogers years worth of built up frustrations and they didn't have the same brutal sense of humor. Here's marlene nicholson jeans. Wife i know they like matching with i mean chain and and roger were like a for wild and dorothy parker in the same room together. Which was which you know. I think they traded time to be fair just like they flipped a quarter to see who. Who's that next to the host of the talk show. What some be resolved. Harsh words between gene and roger was often just the way they talked. There's a semi famous blooper. Reel them from nineteen eighty-seven that reveals. How closely their senses of humor lined up. They were filming promos for that week. Show and jean had been garbling. His lines for g beach is a second language. Rather i languages yes. I'll have apple pie with my order. He asks the mcdonald's girls if he can have apple pie with or before they asked him. And you know what jean says and he goes into. Mcdonald's can i apple as with their order. They're razzing goes on for almost ten minutes. If this video had leaked back in the eighties it might have settled the friend or foe question forever. it doesn't capture gene. And roger acting like bitter enemies lashing out at one another or as best buds putting on an act. They just seem like themselves friendly foes. Here's how chaz ebert summarizes gene and rogers relationship more than thirty years after first meeting them. This is what i saw. I saw civilized men who really respected each other's opinions and lou that they both thought they were like the smartest guys in the room and so they wanted to impress each other still. They're respect was an obvious to many of the shows fans like howard stern who pressed them on the relationship on his radio show in the late eighties. I don't think you really like each other. Well you know. The fact is that if we hadn't been doing this television show we probably wouldn't have had three conversations in the last thirteen years but for the half hour gene and roger were on the air together every week. They seem destined to be together whether they wanted to or not. And they're combative. Energy would prove impossible for others to recreate by nineteen ninety. The replacement version of at the movies have been canceled and many of the other cisco labor clones were gone to that year. Gene and roger appeared on the cover of spy magazine that before. The internet harnessed. Ninety percent of the media. world's collective sarcasm. they appeared as part of a feature story that semi scientifically ranked the most influential critics in the country. Roger came in first until gene started calling the writer of the article arguing that he actually deserved the top spot gene one. But only by a small margin the point was even with all their competitors. There was no single critic as powerful as siskel and ebert together and in the nineties that power will be felt across the industry. It will be gene in rogers allowed us decade.

"Just remember our late. Friend john lewis. Freedom is not a state. It's an act treated is not a state. it's anak we must act and we will lack causes just our business and our hearts are full. We the people our democracy for america itself. We must back. God bless you all. May god protect our troops and all those scared watch over our democracy. Although we know we must pass federal legislation to expand voting rights. A lot of people including myself are concerned that we don't have enough democrats. We don't even have every democrat onboard and even then the filibuster prevents us from codifying. Any law that is driven by the budget that we could use budget reconciliation for even if we had all the democrats. Now i'm not clear as to how we're going to do this. Past voting rights though many are now calling for what dana you and. I have been talking about for months. Now which is carving out the filibuster for voting rights bills. Much like Much like mcconnell carved out the filibuster to appoint supreme court justices. And i think read carved out. I think it was read. That did it for judges a cabinet appointees we've have carve-outs is what i'm saying. We'll keep our eye on. How biden moves democrats. Hell bent on leaving the filibuster implies namely mansion in cinema there are only fourteen democrats in the senate committed to killing the filibuster altogether but everyone else is open to reform. Except for the two. That i mentioned and carving out an exception for voting rights would fall into the category of reforming the filibuster. I'm still concerned. However if we do carve out a path through filibuster reform and get all democrats onboard and pass the voting rights act or maybe even if few republicans whether it's the for the people after the john lewis voting rights act. The current supreme court could be poised to gut it when the inevitable lawsuits from republican attorneys general role in So i'm concerned about this affair. Concern edgy Texas democrats are successfully fighting back against their specific states where voting rights bill more than fifty left the state and flew to dc yesterday to rob the republicans of the corm they needed to pass that voter suppression bill. They're a showdown in the texas house was locked into place today after the chamber voted overwhelmingly to send law enforcement after the democrats who left the state a day earlier to protest the priority elections legislation. The impact of the house move is unclear since texas law enforcement lacks jurisdiction in dc at a news conference. Tuesday afternoon though. Rep jim murphy. Houston republican who chairs the house.
