"To break down and I got the music ready for you because it's a big day in the golf world. Well, it ISS it actually should be. This is usually one of my favorite days and favorite weeks of the sports calendar. Yes, it's normally the week of Nance. Jim. Jim Nance is big day or with you know, the Final four would have been Saturday night. The championship game would've been tonight, right? Villanova has won two of the last four championships. Akeley local team here and then, of course he goes to Augusta. Yes, and it would have been Tiger Woods trying to defend I know and going for what he is. 16th major. He's got 15 got it last year, and we're we're not gonna have that until maybe November. No, it looks like it's happening because they changed. It will have a complete golf segment breakdown. Harry will get the Potter out of his trunk. He always has the clubs in the car. My clubs have been in storage for four years. Areas that right I don't even remember what they look like. Do you still have that Tommy Armour? Persimmon Wood? Yes, I driver. Yes, I do. That is a collectible one day that Tommy Armour persimmon driver will be In the golf Hall of Fame. Jim Nance will be there. I will present it to him, right. Amen. Corner. You know what? They're calling it this weekend. Hallelujah Corner. No, not Amen. What's the opposite of Amen. Only you know what? All the crap I think That's nobody here. Actually, Last night I was watching on the golf chattel like to Rico was doing the annual event where all these kids go out there, Jim and pot with a Dr Shippen putt. Yeah, that's a cool thing. Kids are incredible. Another better than me. Nine year olds chipping like without an inch of the car. That's what I've been watching with No sports. Yeah. What else is there? I mean, I'm gonna wrestle mania happened this weekend. I've got to leave the matte master steam up there the way they did. The WrestleMania was actually like recorded Down.

"He have the call the Breeders Cup. Classic Vino Rosso defeating McKinsey. Todd pletcher Bob Baffert. The trainers of those two horses is respectively and this past week. Bob And todd sat down for a panel that was moderated by Amy Zimmerman at the university. Arizona's Race Track Industry Program Global Symposium on racing and Byron came from the blood horse was there to cover it. He brought you all the information and all the news used very very well. And he's with me now here on the Horse. Racing Radio Network Byron Good Morning. Good morning my thank you for the kind words to say that. Yeah of course course now that you know for those of us who weren't there being able to keep up with it through your articles on blood horse was very helpful and there were looked or no shortage of things disgust into talk about at that symposium and and you had your hands full going through and covering all of those. Let's start with the one that I just mentioned. It was called called a personal perspective of racing's past present and future Bob Baffert Todd pletcher sharing their thoughts on a variety of topics. What were some of the things that stood out to you Byron well They began to kind of recalling their careers and both of them were Went to the university there. But the the meat of the The whole session. There was when they got into topics of Medicaid and both of them support The elimination of lasix. Not so much because I think in baffles. Casey expressed a bit of a fatigue over it. He's kind of tired of hearing about it and in in Fletcher's case. He mentioned that he thinks it would be worthwhile from public perception standpoint. So I think a lot of trainers they see a positive today six in terms controlling bleeding but they also understand the many many issues that are facing the industry right now and that was one of the main takeaways from their paneth. Aw That's interesting that you use the word fatigue. When you talk about Bob Baffert his stance on lasix? I think many of us in the industry probably feel the same way and I I get. Todd's take two. I guess from a public perception standpoint. Although I would argue that I'm not sure that the average fan really understands what goes on in terms of the medication that's used and and there isn't much of it used in our sport today but there are a couple of things What else did they have to say? What other topics did they did? They address I think one of the issues that both of them feel is that many trainers are being blamed for what happened in California or for that matter any breakdown that happens and one of their key takeaways is. There's a whole team of people that are involved in a horse from its days when it's The Mayor Erin the stallion or bread until you know win. It makes it to the race traffic and they talked about transparency and everybody kind of essentially doing the right thing. They're the end users as they acknowledged but at the same time we all have a responsibility to do the right thing as opposed to you know looking in in a short term view and maybe looking for profits more so than say the welfare the Horse. So that's Bedford mentioned. which was kind of interesting? It's you know he said that. Now there's so much. Breeding to cells opposed to breeding race. There was a higher percentage years ago and so now he compared it to you know. They're baking their pie but they don't WANNA eat pie. Meaning the the breeders because pass it along so I think both of them feel feel a sense. That trainers are being blamed for many of the issues that are going on currently yeah one of the quotes that was in the article. You wrote that people can go back to blood lead horse dot com and read all of your articles from the symposium but one of them was Bob saying that the situation in California. It was like a wildfire that got out of control and we didn't know how to put it out. All we did was point fingers at everybody. He went on to say now. I think we've got it a little bit better contained and I guests that that's probably the way most people look at it. At this point I would agree. I would agree. I think you know they made a lot of dramatic changes out in California California particularly in March and of course even till today. We don't know precisely the reason for the rash of breakdowns. I mean we know there's a combination involved but it's very hard to just point a finger as it was the race track or it was medication or was this. It was that so many of the changes they may. Hey were widespread and I think that Kinda for flex in in Bedford statement. That they were you know. Try Try and literally everything And perhaps on some of these issues it may not be related. But it's very hard at this point to say specifically what Are the key elements that did contribute to the rash pounds. There was also a panel that was comprised of horse players that was called listening to the horse racing customer. And Yeah I know that quite often at the symposium they will have horse players come up and address the audience talk about different things that they feel can be done to to support the people that support the game and that's the betters What did you take out of that panel Byron? Well that panel in my opinion was a little little more weight as fresh as some of the other ones because it was a lot of the same topics that have been discussed previously for example things like lowering the takeout got and things of that nature. But having said that you know the reason we're still discussing it is because it really hasn't happened Very much so oh these guys that spoke on there and it was a very well informed. Smart Panel you know they spoke about you know really listening to the customer in terms of okay. Let's make make this game. More appealing Pat Cummings from the survey idea. Foundation was very sad. That horse racing in terms of wagering product is like stale bread compared to fresh bread of of sports wagering. And you know when you look at the difference in takeout. One Bet is superior to to the other in terms of there's a smaller rake On a sports plagiar- or at least a traditional one. And you know we talked about. We have to make ourselves more appealing in the marketplace and that includes things such as transparency having stewards explained decisions. Having you know put people on like trek superintendents to describe how a track is maintained taint so for those people that are you know looking attract bias those kinds of things and of course they they mentioned take out and and desire to have it lower and then someone from the audience Naturally a lot of the audience members at the symposium or restrict executives brought up the fact that you know at Canterbury years ago they took a pretty dramatic step in reducing takeout and they did not see the benefits impact. They took it on the chin. Pretty good so I think. There's a very much a reluctance in in the industry to have across the board takeout Reductions they might you know put a low takeout on a pick four. Pick five something like that. But I don't I think there's a whole lot of support They leased as I'm taking the temperature of a wide across the board reductions. Talking with Byron King From Blood Lead Horse. He was at the symposium on raising Arizona. This past week and Did a great job covering it and Getting those articles out there at blood horse DOT COM It d g get the sense Byron that when you listen to the various panels and in particular this this panel here talking about the reduction and take out what some of the players would like to see done. Do you get that. The industry will listen and that real change can come about from these conversations. Well well I hate to sound cynical because I've you know I would love to see it happen But I think in some of these instances Do a great job of talk and not necessarily implementing it. At least that's been my you looking at it over the years I think you know ultimately ultimately what it comes down to on a lot of these issues is people have to see the horse players. Want a better bottom line obviously right and so do the race tracks so so I think the race tracks want to see returns that they can feel comfortable about so I would say on this particular issue. We're going to need just see. Some horse player really need to embrace these lower takeout wagers. I think if if change is really going to happen and for the next step you know to move forward There's there's no doubt in my mind that when you see certain takeout wagers and when you have carryovers like in pick five or something people really step up and you know really support those wagers and I think you know those that will be the key needs to be going to special. I think both sides for her changed to happen. On this particular point you mentioned Pat Cummings with a thoroughbred idea foundation being part of that panel. I I don't know if this came up at all in the discussion Byron but I'll I'll bring it up now. He the thoroughbred idea foundation had sent out a press release. I guess it was last week I thought this might have some merit. Jim Jim Nance the longtime CBS broadcaster had offered some ideas to the NFL about a Fischel reviews and the challenges that we see so so often now that had become part of the game and he said that he thinks there ought to be cameras in the room when the officials are going to the replay booth going back to New York as it is and so that the fans the viewers can watch the officials. Make the decision on whatever call as supposed to just coming back and saying the call stands or the call has been overturned and not giving an explanation and the parallel they were trying to draw with a thoroughbred idea. Foundation was is that is so so often in this sport we have stewards who make decisions. I La in the Kentucky Derby this year and the decisions are never really explained and and I think that that is a point. That is a big sticking point to a lot of players especially if you have money on the horses disqualified or even vice versa. You'll why what what was the thought process here into how transparent parents in the sport which is something we're always bragging about and and saying that we need to do. Then you know I think that may they have some merit. Did that come up at all. In that conversation we did talk about transparency with Stewart decisions whether or not it would I don't recall it being being in that much detail. Yeah that sounds really interesting to me. I think it's and we've seen I think in some other jurisdictions in other countries as we've seen cameras a little bit in the room with some of these seward's and I think it's a good thing and anytime you show people The process involved breath assuming the people are doing a good job. It will Restored degree of faith. I think in the whole system. I think that's what horse there's players want. That's what anybody wants with an official that you know. They want some accountability there and they want to see done thoroughly and efficiently and all those those kinds of things. I would certainly support that. I think that would be a very very good thing. I think you know there's a reluctance I've seen this over the years with some stores that you know. They WANNA make their decision but they don't necessarily want to defend their Decision and I think clearly there needs to be because or players are disillusioned with many of the decisions that go down or the lack of consistency between race track and racetrack. Yeah many of the racing officials that I know and the stewards that I'm friends with wouldn't WanNa hear that but I think that you know I think it's a bad idea at all You know especially if VR GonNa say that we want more transparency in the sport and we want to cater to the horse player into the fans. This is one way to do it and I know that. I don't think Jim's idea the idea was met with open arms with the NFL. Either but It's it's something to talk about. And it's an idea and it's kind of thinking out of the box and I don't think it's a bad thing Byron King with me here on the Horse Racing Radio Network Byron what other topics or comments stood out to you over the course of the racing symposium. What are the key an interesting of pieces with a mattress Mac or to macphail who is as everyone? Most everyone racing house owned run happy and has promoted that stallion. He spoke he was a popular speaker. He talked to on a wide range of topics From his days in the furniture business he spoke about marketing during one of the panels and he of course for those of Your listeners that follow baseball through the years. He made some sizable butts on the Houston Astros and at some promotions involved With his furniture store and so he spoke about the marketing and I think people were very very much interested in what he had to say. I think people tend to really either like Jim Maggot. Vail quite a bad love. You and there's a little over the top and so he was a fascinating panelist as were a number of the others of you know they had some track surface discussion ocean Michael Dickinson. Who is the proprietor of to Peter Footings and and you know we talked about synthetic tracks and and whatnot and and that was interesting along with the discussion about dirt surfaces so they covered a wide range of topics. And unfortunately I couldn't attend them all. That's the teen or fifteen. Yeah it was. I've been there before for multiple symposiums and they do a tremendous job Did you get a chance to play any golf. When you're out there I did not? I did some hiking however it's It's such a lovely outdoors Corona's a really spectacular place if he loved the outdoors and I I did get enjoy that a new record for loss balls on that course that they have out there uh-huh by where they do the symposium it's a good one and and Certainly I within been playing more in the I'm sure my shots would have landed in the desert more so by Renqing..

"And after that played out for a couple of minutes. I finally inserted that I never thought. I would see a moment that could rival the hug with his father in nineteen Ninety-seven. But I think we just did. And then Nick said, it was the greatest celebration scene of all time nothing can ever top it. And then I said that hug with his family. If you're a parent is we didn't have it you're in. You're right. You're not human, and, you know, your ad whipping through all of this. And you're trying to feel them. Moment golf as a field sport football. You can't take three snaps off. And not saying anything basketball the run up and down the floor. And it's the actions moving at a rapid pace in golf. I I know some people get lost on this. But it's it's a sport where it takes a tremendous amount of lake living into that vibe feeling that what that scene in that moment and the intensity or the lack of intensity or the emotion. Whatever it is. You have to kind of like lose yourself in it. And that's how I've always broadcast golf. Never had a note in front of me. I I have enough information from a lifetime of preparation catalogued in my head. I can deal, you know, dial up dates and names and places in historical context. I feel like something that trained myself to do and it's a strength for me. And then I talk from my heart. And you know, there weren't a lot of words said there at the end, but I wanted them to be packed full. And yeah, it was it's a hard moment to say there's anything better than that over in the Gulf world. No, you wanna talk football here. No, no say. Eighty six and eighty six when when Jack one I was there. I was twenty six years old three and a half years removed from graduated the university of Houston, and I couldn't believe I was there. I was mortified by the enormity of the moment. And I was on the sixteenth hole that day Jack made a pivotal birdie. And people have said there will never be anything that will top the eighty six masters. Well, this might have only in this regard because I love Jack Nicklaus net families like family to me. Now, I love them and in Jackson, great, dear mentor, and friend. But when Jack one at eighty six or still four pairings out on the golf course, you still had sevi- in palm kite, and Greg Norman the come through and had Greg and and Tom both not bogeyed eighteen there would have been a playoff. So when Jack exited the eighteenth green arm in arm with his son Jackie who's carrying for him. Frank stay with the shot, only rebound three or four seconds. And then he cut quickly out to something was happening on my whole at sixteen. I think it was the norm and fight for birdie. So we didn't get that chance. We didn't get the the the incredible scene. That we had displayed their the ringing of the eighteenth and housands of people a chorus celebrating pure joy, we didn't have that. So that's an e breaks the tie. They're the two best golf events. I think of all time, and I give the edge year because of again, the story of the rise from the depths and the scene at the eighteenth. You mean, you stuck the landing obviously on Sunday. And then in in retelling the story. I can listen you talk. This this way in about golf all day. Jim Jim Nance of CBS here in the rich Eisen show before we do talk football. I do want to I guess move backwards in the montage that started our conversation..

Because that's how much it means to him and how much it's been such a huge part of his life because he knew he would not have that house sitting there in the same neighborhood with Tom Cruise Paul Newman and whoever else living in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in world sitting there with his master's green office. I thought that. But it's told me how was it pretentious at all just told me how much that event has meant to him. Because he knows that. He can't believe he's still can't believe he gets to do that. Here. It is eight zero nine eastern time. I would say Jim Nance, very likely might be making his way to the golf course right now or very soon. Right. He might be tying his tie right now. And he's listening to a random hillbilly on ESPN radio. I was completely detail the office in his own home. I doubt he probably is especially comfortable with this his office. But that is mardi and McGee in a nutshell. Yeah. Let me tell you something cool, dude. So when I was interviewing him in studying for that interview. I was ignorant to the fact that he and Fred Couples were college roommates university of Houston. So it dawned on me, this is nineteen ninety two Fred Couples wins the masters, and Jim Jim Nance gets the opportunity to call his college. Roommate trip to the absolute pinnacle of the mountain, can you imagine? And when I was discussing it with Nate's, he told me the most unbelievable story. So at these huge events that we do whether that's the masters or the college football national championship football playoff. You name the big events have so much staff. You guys can't imagine it so many support people that allow us to get on this box and discuss the sports you love. Well, some of the most important of those people are the folks that if we forget our phone, or if we forget a statistic, or if we forget anything or we might need a Cup of coffee, whatever there are volunteers who are called runners and they worked their tails off seventeen eighteen hours a day to just to help us be the best version of us. Guess who Jim Nance runner was at the nineteen ninety two final four in Minneapolis. Minnesota. Oh, it was Fred Couples Fred Couples the week before he won the master's came to the final four with Jim Nance and went and got his stats grabbed him a Cup of coffee. Just basically waited on his best buddy college roommate, and then one week later that college roommate is calling his trip to the top of the mountain and discussing it with Jim Nance, Jim got really emotional accord. It got really misty for Jim as he was recounting that I can't even really cool. I can't even imagine like me, and like super Dave Montgomery or dirty or French or Collins like college roommates us. I just can't even imagine celebrating that moment with your boy, why don't you? Celebrate this show with us. Give us.

"Let's bring in Scott Scott's down in Gusta at the master's, give us your schedule. What's your schedule? Like, I know you were you know, you and Andy were doing some stuff yesterday for the par-three what what's the schedule the rest of the weekend. Tuesday. When it they're they are our busiest days by far Tuesday's the press conference day. We're on for like four consecutive hours yesterday. We get three hours sports in the morning that we did the par-three we did in our show after that my schedule now is is pretty much late lifting. But it's you know, it's the important stuff. I suppose we were the Butler cabinet three. And you know, the broadcast comes on the air. And here we are from the masters, and it to CBS broadcasting explained through the years with you. I mean, we're I'm not calling golf per se. I mean, maybe in in the very beginning. I will. But we just handed off to Jim Nance and the CBS golf crew and Curtis. Strange, and I are mostly just there to kind of reset the scene. Maybe do some interviews in the Butler cabin and whatever else so that the heaviest lifting from just hours of work standpoint has is done. And now we get to just kinda watch the Gulf which is which is the tree does. But when you're in Butler cabin today and tomorrow, you're interviewing players have just finished. They're round in Nance. Throws it to you. Right. Yes. Absolutely. I mean, look, we're part of the broadcast rights just I just think like, for instance, when we would ESPN had the US open, and we did grounds one and two that was an that was an ESPN crew NBC got the weekend. But we would blend the two into one another Mike to Recode be in the boost. I'd be in the booth vice versa with the NBC crew. But here like, you know, it's not like me or anyone else goes into eighteen power. I mean, that's that's an Nancy. And it's it's the CBS broadcast. But we are as I say, we're in you know, ingrained in the broadcast. But it's as I also said, it's just not a whole a whole lot of the work. So it's funny thing Kevin is you know, I I get caught watching the golf on the monitor. And then all of a sudden land Spero who is who's the director and the producer of for CBS. Get my air and say we're coming about the cabinet. And I'm thinking, oh crap. I'm on TV, you know. It's like you forget. Because you've been kinda just lulled into his hypnotic state. Just watching the doll. Hello friends. Jim Jim Nance has quite a gig. I mean the the last few weeks with the tournament and then to Augusta to call the masters each year. I mean, I think you've got a good gig. And I think a lot of people in sports broadcasting have good gigs. But does that get discussed among you know, you heavyweights in the sports broadcasting industry about how good a gig Nance has no doubt. The heavyweights. But I mean, of course, of course, it's a I mean, it's just it's the kind of thing that when I see Jim I'll always just, you know, always just smile and shake our head. They have out this week. And look he's he's self aware. He knows that calling the national title game on Monday in Minneapolis. And then being in Augusta on Tuesday to call the masters as a starting a week on a Monday with one title, and then ended on Sunday with another and they're two of the biggest titles. American sports. You're doing them. I mean, it's it's been a hell of a run. But Jim is always been really kind to me, and especially in the Gulf of side of things always been so supportive, and and, you know, just, you know, just always an encouraging where which really means a lot because I mean, you know, he he is an actual heavyweight in the business. So it's nice to have somebody like that, you know, pope, and you up, you know, Tommy's not a golf guy, and he's made fun of golf all of all of the Gulf people, and the people that love golf throughout his entire. Distinguish but I'm not going to do in journalism career. Now do that today. But I got a chance last year to go to Augusta for the first time it was, you know, a.

"This. That's good stuff with Barclay. And he's right. You know, every funny if it was just LeBron Anthony Davis, and then they took on the other team the other team had like, you know, twenty two guys. And then LeBron Anthony Davis because that's what it's going to be like if he does trade all of these guys whose leftover yes, mclovin. Okay. Someone tweeted us a poll question. All right. I'll figure too like who would win LeBron's all star team or the original dream team. Lebron Katie kyri Kawai and harden with Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson off the bench or the dream team to me that feels like a bit of a slight to the dream team. This is only half the great players in the NBA. Well bird wasn't. He wasn't himself. Then you know, he was a mere shell is bad back. He had some older guys on that team the dream team. Right. But yet enough young guys, maybe it's my age. But to me the dream team is like the most unbeatable group of all stars ever collected. The heartache at the dream team was bad as well. Dan is shooting down there? Okay. Elax adapt here. I'm just saying I, you know, in the course of my day. I wasn't going to I didn't think I'd be answered a question about the dream team against LeBron's all stars. This was not Michael. By fan. I know. Okay. What else? Do you have the backups by the way on a dream team? The backups were Karl Malone. David Robinson, Clyde Drexler. They are coming off the bench. Yeah. Okay. Who is the most disappointing and the word is disappointed. Not the worst player number one overall pick in the last say fifteen years, Greg Oden, Anthony Bennett Derrick rose Marquel faults disappointing because of what he could have been what we could have been and I'm going to put volts on. And the other question is is there any chance of Markelle Fultz won't go down as one of the all-time number one overall bus. Well, there there's a chance that he won't because he needed a fresh start. And I said all along you gotta get him out of Philly because it's just a mess. It's a reminder every time Boston does something. Well, or Jason Tatum. We got more careful. I don't know. What happened? I he got injured. And then he had the shoulder issues or did he start to get into his own head and then had shoulder issues. But in Orlando, you can go you can come off the bench. You know, you're not leading sportscenter with Orlando. And maybe he can ease back in and have a career because going back to watching him is one year at Washington. He had a nice shot. He had a nice release point. He could shoot threes. He had confidence. Now you watch him. And you see this with a lot of these younger players. Ben Simmons Lonzo ball, even you know, the Greek freak they get into that area where they're like. Oh god. I don't wanna take their shot. Lonzo ball doesn't want to go to the hoop. He doesn't wanna get Foudy doesn't want to go to the line. Like you can't play that way in. Here's Foltz who they were begging him to take a twelve footer and he didn't want to take it. And it was painful to watch that. So hopefully gets a chance Anthony benefits making a comeback in the G league. He's actually played well. Well, I don't know if he's going to be on a be brought up, but he's actually played. Well, I think Greg Oden really bums me out because he never had a chance. And if he was healthy he could play if you look at his stats over thirty six minutes his second year in a league before he got injured. He was averaging seventeen points, thirteen rebounds and four blocks a game for thirty minutes. He never got the taste of stardom at least Derrick rose had a good taste of stardom for three or four years. He's not a buzzed a disappointment because you got in your job. I mean, he's going to be the only MVP not to win the hall of Famer definitely not a bust, but disappointed because of what he could have been, but he's made a comeback. Unbelievable. Yes. That's I feel like there should be an injury injury exemption from the bus list. They've if you can't be a bust if you just had bad knees or something, you know, if injury took you took your career from you. I don't think you should be labeled a bus some people just get to the league. And they stink. That's a boss. Yeah. Sam mbui. He he was injury prone. It wasn't his fault Bill Walton, you know, that he was injury prone as well. Didn't have a long NBA career. Greg Oden, a little more complicated. I've seen like HBO real sports on his personal stories battled with some with some substance issues and stuff because of the pain. So I don't know if he was just injuries to he's I've seen that he went to a lot mentally must be hard to be number one overall pick that the back, captain obvious. Thank you. Mclovin. Hey, did I give you the dream team poll question? You know, what what's the dream team poll question? So we're going to say, which is the best. Okay. Thank you. All right. We'll settle on a poll question we will recap. What went down the drama that was then folding yesterday in front of Jim Jim Nance will not have something as dramatic this weekend at the AT and T Pebble Beach Pro-Am like he did yesterday. And I that's not understating. He didn't have something as dramatic last Sunday night as yes, yes. In fact, he even said yesterday in his backyard was more exciting than the Super Bowl. He did drink loving. Attention was unbelievable. Yes. Unbelievable. We're going to be people twenty five thirty years from now who are going to say, oh, I was there. I saw it kind of like Woodstock everybody was. Yeah. You know, there's only six of one hundred point game. I think there were seven seven and a half people there. Nance's wife, Courtney and his son and his son. I believe is around four three or four. It was interesting to see the nice guy veneer, come down and the competitor come out. He got a job. He went Jim Nance Joffe. No joke. Unbuttoned, the sweater. And it was go. Yeah. Yeah. We'll take a break. We'll take a break and come back. We will recap the par. Three contest. It's meet Friday. That's a trigger. Meet Friday Chadwick is here. We got the trigger fired up. I'm not sure what we're having that will rival what happened last night. We had meet Thursday night last night as Chad had the traeger out fired up. Good stuff so McFaul to that and meet Friday songs as well. All right. We'll take a break seventeen after the hour here. Dan, Patrick show. What do we have here seating? Do. We have discovered probably time to check your credit, Dan. Yeah. Well, well. Well, I tell everyone lamb. Yeah. Yeah. Well, and the words is Steve.

"Fresh back. From Atlanta flight landed. Five AM time here in Los Angeles, California. But I'm sitting here at the desk because I love all of you. And I just give I just give that's one way to put it another way is I just love talking ball with y'all. Eight four four zero four rich is the number to Dow what a great week we had of shows in Atlanta and we figured after chatting with Tom KARN. With the Boston Angolan. Jeff Schwartz broke down the Xs and os. We figured we'd go straight up the flow chart right now and get the man who called the Super Bowl on CBS remarkably the first one that he's called with the patriots winning. He headed the trophy to them in the first ever Super Bowl, the NFL network covered back in Houston city that obviously means so much to him. And we're thrilled to have the day after calling the game on CBS with the patriots beating the Rams gymnasts here on the rich Eisen show. How are you? Jim. I am. Well, and just like you. I hurry home as fast as I could. So. I just got on the ground here in California. And I'm delighted to talk to you. I appreciate that. Jim. I appreciate that. So what do you take away from Super Bowl fifty three? Jim. I had very little rest last night relate to that. I've been course, circling in my mind, so many thoughts about the game. It was so bizarre. Strange. Unlike anything, I've I think I've ever seen in a football game. It's just it was it was just a not what anyone expected. A tip of the hat here. Or to ballot check. And I think that was perhaps his finest finest hour, maybe it's finest game plan upper. And I don't want to shortchange while Matt Brian Flora's, but we all know Bill never gave away the defensive coordinator title this year because he is the coordinator and I was at practices weekend. I saw it at work in Flora's is right there with them but Bill is in the middle. And I mean what a tremendous game plan. He put together to completely. Bring it to a screeching halt an offense that was just packed full power and speed and all kinds of punch, and it just was not existent. How about this one? Just we had for the game one snap in the red zone right for the game one. And it was the touchdown. Touchdown run by Sony from two yards out. Now sell me a game you've ever seen that had one snap from inside the twenty for both teams combined. One I can't recall it. I know remarkably that happened fifty three minutes into the game the exact number of Super Bowls played numerology dream, fifty three minutes. Disapproval fifty three is when he crashed the end zone, Sony, Michelle, and it it really was one of those games where I was expecting that at some point. It would just all the defensive filters would be taken off and the the offense would have its say. But it really never happened. I saw it in the second quarter when it was three nothing. Good. So still going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of the game that my partner Tony Romo had foreshadowed. The media day. He'd been asked to make a prediction on the game. Don't tell us who's going to win that the the question came from the floor. We know you can't pick a team. But this could you tell us the score. And Tony's that twenty eight twenty four and the team that has twenty four we'll have a ball at the end be stopped. I thought that was still possible. I wasn't trying to call them out on it or make them look bad on those snarky people out there. Trying to make something out of that. But the reality was we had a game similar inflow at Kansas City two weeks before and that was a fourteen nothing game. And you never would have imagined that it would be thirty seven thirty one final in the end. That's what I still thought. We were heading toward was it gained. There's going to be in the twenties. Maybe somebody would touch thirty. And this thing would open up. But it never did. Did you get a sense at all? Because to me, Jim, Jim Nancy on the rich Eisen show. We may never get an answer to the question about Todd Gurley. Wh what did you glean throughout the week about his prepared? This readiness health anything, Jim? All I got was. Everyone's he was fine. Everyone on the record off the record. I think this is unrelated to what happened. In New Orleans. I think the New Orleans thing was about his focus or lack of at the beginning of that game. The interception of bounced off his hands. Another drop. All is the Rams are going in for a touchdown to the carpet around the fifteen yard line. And I think it was never called a benching. I just think that McVeigh lost faith in him in the NFC championship game. It got comfortable with the way Anderson was playing now this one I think this had to do with having the game plan being taken away from it. Not because anyone lost faith. And I just think the game was forced to go in a different fashion than what the Rams usually do. He's still got whatever. It was ten carries the game not a lot. But it certainly had no flow to it. The Rams offense to out, and it just I think I just think those two off performances are two different issues, and this one had more to do with what you waiting on. What's throwing out Jim Nance here on the rich Eisen show just landed back on the on the left coast. I think he's got an appearance on DP show at pebble coming up later in the week kind enough to call into the rich Eisen show here the day after calling the Super Bowl. So let me ask you this one Jim where does Brady rank? I mean, as we all know you've seen great moments at Augusta using great moments in the NC double a hoops tournament. You've seen so many great moments in your broadcasting career out of those areas as well where does Brady rank for you? You. It's a very difficult proposition to try to compare. Tom Brady, the Tiger Woods, for example. I've been how do you say one's better than the other? These are just such special individuals who compete at such a high level, and who are just driven insatiable. Appetite to try to win win win. They just never let go of it and unquenchable thirst for victory. And I I just I admire that kind of athlete that just it's never enough. It's never enough. I mean, you would have thought that maybe this would be enough for time. I can't speak for him. Do you like a no one pretty well? You don't pretty well covered him a long time. But you know, he walks off that platform last night with the Lombardi trophy this little girl in his arms as mazing he convince me he's coming back. I of thought maybe there might be a little wiggle room that if he wanted that this might be the right occasion, not not necessarily on Sunday night to take away from the moment. But I certainly go out of sense. Just just listening to them answering the questions that you know, he's definitely planning on coming back and staying with that long range plan of of of quarterbacking tilles forty five years old. Yeah. I mean, it's it's amazing. I guess I should ask. Instead of rank if if you've seen any similar traits, and you you you you mentioned tiger mean the first time you handed that trophy to Brady was way back when he was just winning his second. And now as you handed that one to him last night, you could say it was the second most valuable trophy that that little girls in his arms for him. And how it all connects maybe for him. I think that that he wants to keep playing while his kids remember watching daddy win the Super Bowl. I and prove how long jeopardy. Is just a mindset really not an age. Jim. I'm wondering what you think having been so close up to it. Let me speak here. In terms of what Tom said to us when meeting with them. Wednesday, and that was discussed that when I had the Lombardi in his hands going back to the Super Bowl in New Orleans Super Bowl thirty six beating the Rams his twenty four year old kid didn't have of course, a family was buried and now here, he is he's you know, he's a man. He's forty one got father of threes got a beautiful family. And he said how much he enjoys being able to share this with his kids is all this boy is really into it. Now. Really? They take it very personally when things. You know, battlements fan more than he is a fan of his dad, but the second son is is not quite as into it, and the and the little girl, and I made a reference to this on the big platform last night, rich. She's she would always say to the Tom he said after the game eight daddy, I was churn for I was saying go daddy. Go. Could you hear me? Of course, I could hear you on. And there's a father a little girl. I just thought it was really sweet thing to have a little bit in his hands. Last like, you said there's no trophy that compares to that having a child in your arms, especially when it's the greatest moment of triumph on the football field purging with your your your greatest gift of all your family. So I think that he is to your point. I think he says this one thing that is keeping going it. Some people say now want go spend more time I want to let go of this. And I to I wanted to vote just all my time instead of training and all that goes into it. But I think as kids are into it. Now kids are like enjoying this life and watching their dad, the you know, the greatest quarterback the games ever known. And last one for you. Jim Jim Nance here on the show. I really like Romo a lot. Jim. I think you know, when I've told you this all feral tell you here too. He's he's like the guy the guy at the bar. Okay. Like the he reacts like the guy at the bar. He knows more than the guy at the bar, but he doesn't want to make it seem like the guy in the bar that he's not smart as him. I mean, he just he's he's he's terrific. And all that. I'm wondering what is like trying to get the play in get ready for the snap. And he's he's he's predicting stuff left right up and down for you. Absolute total joy, I I just love working with them. And he is a regular guy who struck it. Big in the NFL by working hard undrafted. I said to Sam farmer. Tony is a guy into carries himself with a full blown case of undrafted Itis, so everything he's gonna get in his world. He's gonna work for it. Whether it's being a great golfer or being a quarterback who set all the cowboy passing records or being a tremendous analyst on television. It there's a part of it that comes naturally, but he's working, and he's able to take we is his personality is boyish enthusiasm and be able to feel feel comfortable exposing that to the world of who he really is instead of trying to pretend to somebody else instead of playing the role of announcer. He's just being himself. And we're we just had a poll for two years. So darn proud of him last night. It was it was such an important show. It always is for anyone gets the good fortune of being able to work in any capacity of Super Bowl. But you know, Tony we didn't have the best game. But it wasn't a game. That had a rhythm and flow. So we could get into it like the Kansas City broadcasts that we have. But he did really well. And this is just the start of a long great career that one day rich. We'll have him better known as the top football analyst of his time than being a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. But I mean, I mean that's saying a lot. It's it'd be like Madden right that that Madden was no more. That's the comparison in terms of John outgrew his legend of being a Super Bowl winning coach and became known as John Madden. The voice of the people the voice of the sports Antonis on his way. So you're you're on your way to pebble. Right. That's your next gig. I'm on my way, back home. We got the golf tournament here this week. And Tony is going to be here, by the way. Uh-huh. Dinners sit back and what about dollars jackets and celebrate what about ballot. Check. Playing this your bills out this year? And I think Brady's going skiing. So they've they've been the past. They've somehow they'd come off a Super Bowl game and made their way to the Monterey peninsula. The plan this thing, but not this year. And then then the turnament where I'm sure you'll be handing the trophy to John beeline. I'm looking forward to that. That'll be great. True Michigan allow maybe if it's not Kelvin Sampson at the university of Houston my school, right? I'm sorry about that last year. Oh, man, I'm bringing that up. No. I realized that to maybe sees I on it, you know, up close and personal for that final four that everybody's expecting this guy. It's a great next few weeks. Jim I look forward to it is always now, it's all good fun. I mean, you go from the Super Bowl. So the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and it's all a blessing. I don't take it lightly to be with you, my friend..

And this is just the start of a long great career that one day rich will have him better known as the top football analyst of his time than being a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. I mean, I mean that saying a lot it's it'd be like mad and right that that Madden was known more for that. That's the comparison in terms of John outgrew is legend of being Super Bowl winning coach and became known as John Madden. The voice of the people the voice of the sport Antonis on his way..

"A theory that maybe Steph retire spends his last year in Toronto as a raptor, forget, Charlotte. I mean, we always do. I know. Well, Joe Montana was a chief. Ronnie Lott was a jet in. Jerry Rice was a Seahawk. Ronnie Lott was jet on a one in fifteen jet team. And by the way. So I was in jersey at that time when Ronnie hit the scene, so I used to watch all the jet games. This is pre NFL network pre kind of everything pre satellite. You can only get two games. A local games hated the giants guts. And I would I would look forward to watching gangrene. They would always lose. But Ronnie was good for a player to every game. Ronnie he we're going to miss him tomorrow about Jim Nance has pinch hitting for him tomorrow. Because today, Nancy. We're gonna miss Ronnie pinch hitting for Ronnie Lott. Jim, Jim, Jim Nance NATs can Nance lay the wood on Bavaro like Ronnie did come on. You know, follow you've been to the home. I know seen the smoothness seen the wine cellar, for God's sakes with a controlled temperature. Seriously, by the way, before we get to the last bit of sound here. This great two great texts. Four one five says who cares of her dad helped her? That's what dads are supposed to do. In our being our coming down on dads and daughters nine to five showing deep level listening and Miguel from San Jose's gonna have to keep up with this. Okay. Because he says maybe on the way to jump. Bumgarner off at the airport, comma, copes hopes can make a pitstop at Riley's house to call her out about the letter. That's it right there. Interesting. Great techs. I'm more interested in whether or not there are other misspelled words outside of California. No..

"Jim jim nance sort of sues me with his you know with his tones of spurring can i tell you my theory about the birds real quick i think i think we hire someone or does like amazing bird calls and they just sit there all day no i mean what what do you think mike greenberg does on weekends he's doing those bird calls for for the masters i'm sure that's exactly what happens but what i'm saying is i watch that but if it is mark leash mun and patrick read unless it's really compelling i'm going to fall asleep but tiger can be within seven shots and i'm not going to miss it so for instance yesterday when he was done i wanted to know what he said about his three over around and here's what it was well i didn't get myron sure you're good at all and i hit so many beautiful putts said nothing went in today but i didn't hit arms very crisp very clean and didn't didn't control my distances shapes or anything light trying to think of the last masters event that had mean glued that didn't include like a big name star throw yo yes but i consider speaks like a star right okay how do we feel about bubba i well okay i was in new car thrive espn i want to be nice and i can't stand bubba but but but yes i want to watch him because he buttons his top button on his shirt and i think it looks really weird and so i'm always rooting against him but he is.

"Slow incremental growth you know by the by the way it's like a five twenty nine college you're not gonna get rich overnight but down the road you look up and you have a couple of hundred thousand dollars to go to school i know this starting a business and it doesn't happen overnight and you're going to pivot a few more than a few times before you find what you're supposed to be may take five or six years before even know what you're doing but you can't be afraid of that through the company i started at least we failed quickly quickly yes they viable it's not drain funds while we're in the process let's fail yes and then pivot as you said read this bursts iraq or you know whatever we gotta do here's the other quote that's really interesting and this you know that this sucks me and it sucks me in at it's going to suck in a ton of people which is why this could really make some money and be truly viable fifty nine fifty nine million people play fantasy and twenty million people play fantasy football only we have to be able to take advantage of those people who just stopped playing when the nfl season ends now if you watched i believe that this happens on fox's well but i know for sure 'cause i can actually hear gymnast reading the promos for tony you watch the nfl on cbs an doering just the way the fantasy league is set up you've got the draft what and then you have the the the fantasy draft season doesn't go from one to sit for those who might not know this is somewhat basic but just so everybody's not not everybody's on the same page weeks one through seven that's not the season because that you had no playoffs rare it's really like one to thirteen or one to fourteen depending upon the size you leave and you get the postseason at the end and then they do the fantasy postseason during the final three or four weeks of the nfl regular season and i could still hear jim jim nance reading it they're never too late you know joining but you could do fantasy football during the playoffs.
