"Everybody, everybody that didn't like him through a fit. Everybody that liked him thought it was hilarious, but it caused an uproar, and then he had another sleepover with kicker Quinn nordean. That ruffled some feathers as well. You hold on it. He slept over to recruit a kicker? Yeah. This was this was a, this was not just a kicker, Pablo. This kicker, when he committed to Penn State, created a recruiting video for himself on a private jet getting off of the private plane committing the Penn State. Only the de commit and commit to Michigan where Jim Harbaugh had a sleepover. Yeah, I got to say, can't necessarily imagine Nick Saban, you know, putting on the jammies for a sleepover. No. I wonder what those jammies look like, though, are they silk with crimson silk with a's all over them? Who knows? Yes, smooth but also angry. I have to save time. So I guess I just should ask this question for sheer journalistic inquiries sake. But is the guy also just a little nuts? Is he a lot of nuts? I think every person at a certain level of success is a little bit crazy. Especially within college football right now, what these coaches had to go through. They have no lives outside of being a college football coach. But then you look at who he is, he's definitely different. He is definitely different than other people, and he's okay with being himself. And yeah, it's a different guy, but it's gotten him to this point and the people that are around him seem to love it. I think there are some people in this world that are doing what they're supposed to be doing. I think Taylor Swift is absolutely doing what she was born to be doing. And I think Jim Harbaugh is born to be doing what he is doing right now. I think he absolutely loves everything about football. And not.

"I guess. I'm not really sure. But hold on. I like, I mean, beyond the fact that I would imagine maybe there's like a laid back chicken out there somewhere who's just very offended by all of the stereotyping. I do also understand that like the Jim Harbaugh experience. I mean, he has so many catch phrases, Tom, some of which he has like wrapped in music videos. Yeah, yeah, he's done a little bit of everything. And this was early Jim Harbaugh, where he was all over social media. He had rappers in the locker room, come visit when they were due concerts near Ann Arbor. He'd have him come visit and try on their chains. He was in a rap video,.

"After the break, we solve the mystery of Jim Harbaugh's khakis. As well as everything else. Getting paid up to two days early with direct deposit is another reason banking with Capital One is one of the easiest decisions in the history of decisions, even easier than deciding to listen to another episode of your favorite podcast. And with no fees or minimums on checking and savings accounts, is it even a decision? That is banking reimagined. What's in your wallet? Terms applies, see Capital One dot com slash bank, Capital One NA, member FDIC. So Tom, if you were to ask me to play word association around the concept of Jim Harbaugh, I feel like khakis is the number one answer you'd be given on family feud. So tell me what has happened to the khakis. Yeah, they're out of his closet. They're no more. They've been banished because he hasn't been wearing them all season and I noticed that early on, but I thought maybe there's weather involved. Maybe he had rain pants on. Who knows? But they never came back, and I actually noticed I don't know if I'm allowed to mention brands on the show, but I am a particular fan of a certain golf company brand. And I have a quarter zip that Jim Harbaugh happened to be wearing during a game and I noticed it and I said, what does he ever worn a quarter zip and then I looked down and he had blue pants on and so I asked him about it. I was so curious, I asked him about it in the postgame press conference. You know, your look. I was one of my closet, I kinda like it. I'm gonna tell you okay. No, I just, you know, just a bunch of guys are really like football. He kind of rushed it off. He did laugh, which we haven't seen him laugh in a while. And I thought to myself, why I've seen commercials and videos of you teasing that your closet only has khaki pants and the Michigan hat and nothing else. But I didn't get a chance to ask again, I asked him at a different time. What's different because you look happier, you're acting different. You're dressing different. And I know that sounds silly to say, but I think it's important in the context of who he is. Yes. He actually did give an answer to it. I like football players like football and these are the kind of guys that I mean, you don't have to talk him into it. And I think that's, you know, that makes me happy. You know, I'm happy being around players like that and he said, yeah, I've fed off of that. And maybe their enthusiasm has given me some enthusiasm. So I almost feel like that this is a rejuvenated Jim Harbaugh. It's a reenergized Jim Harbaugh that the piling on his shoulders is gone, that he's changed a little bit about himself, including this khaki pants, and I don't know if you guys noticed this, but he might maybe change the blue pants 'cause they caught on fire in the middle of a game from a heater on the sideline. Wait, wait, wait, just because I want to be very clear about this. His pants were almost literally on fire. They were on fire. Yes. There are pictures of him on the sideline with holes in his pants because he stood too close to one of the heaters, and it sat on fire. And it was funny because he described it and said, one of the receivers was standing behind him and saw it, well, while Jim was talking to another player, but didn't notice that his leg was on fire. The receiver behind him noticed and said, hey coach, hey coach. And wasn't real urgent about it until Jim Harbaugh finally looked and noticed and he said, hey man, maybe next time, if coaches on fire, you have a little urgency. You tell me. Dale and Baldwin. His coach, your pants on fire. Your pants are fire. I looked at it. Oh, my gosh. Pants on fire. So maybe a little coaching point, the dalen ball. When if somebody's on fire, man. Hey. More than a whisper. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just to maybe just grab me out of the give me out of the way or something, you know? Be a little more emphatic about the fact that some of these on fire. Yeah, the legend of Jim Harbaugh being so focused on football that he didn't notice that he was on fire is that's all a new level of mythology, I think, Tom, but this other aspect of him that I want to get to, the man the myth is the milk because Jim Harbaugh is a guy who loves milk. He has been photographed eating a steak with a tall glass of milk. He has done milk commercials. You've got a question from a fan this kid who asked him how much milk he should drink to become a quarterback? And he said this. Drink is much milk as your little belly can hold. At all times, drink is much milk as your could be chocolate milk. Could be could be the 2%, but the ideal is the whole milk. That's the ideal. So tell me about Jim Harbaugh's whole love affair with dairy. Well, there is only one milk to Jim Harbaugh and it's whole milk. Every other milk is not really milk. It's just a watered down product. And you better not bring up skim milk around him because it's whole milk or nothing. And as a 2% milk drinker, I think I'm in the middle, maybe on this political debate, but yeah, you're a moderate. Yeah. Like so many of us, you're a milk modern. Correct, yes. I am a milk moderate. He is hard nosed, whole milk supporter, and he has that stance with a lot of things. He this is reportedly. I have never confirmed this with Wilton spade a former quarterback at Michigan, but reportedly told Wilton spate that Jim Harbaugh does not eat chicken because it's a nervous bird. And that factors in to whether or not he eats poultry or not, so. Nervous bird in the sense of when you look at a chicken and how it lives its life, it seems it seems a little nerved up. Correct. If you were to go to a farm and there were chickens around and you tried to go pet them or be near them, they'd probably run away from you because they're nervous. And.

"Ohio State and he hadn't, until this season. Yeah, so how close was Jim Harbaugh to being broken by this? Because you referenced the COVID season last year. I mean, yes, they are two and four, all three of its home games were else. That would lead to a hot seat. How hot was it? The conversation last year was whether or not Michigan should hang on to Jim Harbaugh, whether they should extend him, whether maybe it was time to part ways. They had just lost to Michigan state who had a new coach in Mel Tucker, who barely met his team before the season. He was hired in hired before the pandemic started and didn't have any time with his team, came out and beat Michigan. They probably would have lost to Ohio State had they played. And the direction of the program, I think that's what a lot of people were looking at, not just that they lost and they had won two games, but the direction of the program seemed to be heading the wrong way and there was some time where we didn't know if he would get extended because the athletic director ward manual said he would sit down after the season was over with Jim Harbaugh and they would figure out the contract extension. Well, some time expired after the season and we hadn't heard anything. And so then we all thought maybe he'd go off to the NFL, maybe there was some debate within what was happening. And they eventually restructured the contract for less money and even when he was brought back though, there was still debate about whether it was the right move. If he could ever get past Ohio State in Michigan state, because what we were all going off of was what we just watched on the field, which was a Michigan team that was making bad mistakes that was playing bad football and it was headed in the direction that maybe wasn't fixable by the current coaches. So Jim Harbaugh does survive this, Tom. He takes a pay cut, he comes back and he's uncertain about his own future as a result of all of it, but you wrote about how this off season in particular was sort of this turning point for the program. So what happened exactly what changed? At the time, like I said, we were all questioning if Jamar was the right guy to change this and turn this around. And what we found out was through new coaching hires, bringing in some younger staff, Mike hart as the running backs coach, George hilo is linebackers coach. Mike McDonald is defensive coordinator Ron Bellamy in alum to coach the safeties. I think brought in those new coaches understanding that he had to make a drastic change and he had to make a difference, but what we really found out was that the players were the ones that drove the change in all this. And I had the chance to talk to some of the leaders on the team, Aiden Hutchinson, Josh Ross, and Hassan Haskins. And I asked them point blank. I said, what's different? You guys keep saying it's different. It's going to be different because we've heard it before. And they looked at me in the eyes and they said, wait till you see this season. Wait till you see what happens because we the players took over. And we took it in our own hands to change the culture of this program. They said they were embarrassed by what happened in the 2020 season Aidan Hutchinson is a passionate guy already and sitting three feet away from me staring into my eyes. Had I not known that he's a nice person, I probably would have been scared because yeah, he's large. He's large time. Right. I've come to appreciate this. Yes. All muscle. Just real fast too. But you can see the anger was welling up in his eyes and the way he was talking. It did feel different. And they said they had player led meetings. They formed a 12 person leadership council to help make decisions and resolve issues. And it all started in winter conditioning where Aidan said they all decided as a group that they were going to start pushing themselves further than they've ever pushed themselves before in everything that they did. Conditioning weightlifting on the field, in practice, everything that happened, they decided to change. And I thought something that was interesting that was pointed out to me cave McNamara and Aidan Hutchinson both said to me, Kane McNamara is the quarterback for Michigan. They both said to me in separate instances that this spring was some of the most fun they've ever had in spring practice at Michigan. That the energy from the new coaches was different. The energy from the players, they all wanted to be there. And cade McNamara told me after one spring practice, Jim Harbaugh blew the final whistle to call everybody in after practice was done. And Kate said that just naturally organically, the players sprinted in an all broke out in a mosh pit. And everyone was so excited for what they were building and what they were doing. And now it turns out that they were right, it was different. It's one thing to say that behind closed doors, it's another thing for you, Tom as a reporter to actually observe that wait a minute, they weren't just bull me. So when did you notice on the field that this actually did make a big difference? I feel like I'm naturally an optimistic person. And I am being a midwesterner. We are nice people by nature and we like to take people for their word. However, like I've said, I've covered this program for a while, and I have heard that before. I have heard that it's different. And so I was a little skeptical about what could change in such a short amount of time. Especially because we just watched them win two games. In the first game of the season against western Michigan, it was a game that they were expected to win, and they did, but I was still a little skeptical. And then we went into the second game of the season against Washington. The game was billed as an important game for both teams. It was at night. It was supposed to be a better Washington team than it ended up being, but Michigan ended up winning that game 31 to ten. That was the first time that I saw on the field that things started to look different. And then the bigger step for me was really when and I think it probably pushed some optimism over the top for a lot of people watching was when Michigan went on the road and beat Wisconsin. That defense is nasty. 38 to 17, the final score from Madison, Michigan undefeated. In Wisconsin, Michigan 49 to 11 in 2020. So I think that was an important step, not just because they won and not just because they won on the road. But I watched something afterwards Pablo that happened that I thought was indicative of everything that the players were saying. If you go back and watch that game, the broadcast panned the field when they started playing jump around at camp Randall. In Michigan's team was the one that was jumping around on the field and dancing and having a good time and they showed in that win in that moment when they were jumping around and dancing that they had confidence that they've lacked forever. This was actually a real turnaround. And that Wisconsin game was the moment for me where I saw it that this thing was different. There was a noticeable change in Jim Harbaugh too. Last year he seemed defeated or depleted or so I don't know what it was, how to describe it. It was just seemed like a different guy. There wasn't a lot of energy. In this season, especially at that Wisconsin game, I noticed there was something different about him. He's lost weight. He's been working out consistently. He seems happier and I don't know if you've noticed this, but the biggest change he's not wearing the khakis anymore. Well, hold on. Because this cliffhanger is something that I demand an answer to Tom..

"This is ESPN day. So Tom van Heron I have summoned you here today because you are the authority on the person I think is the most fascinating character in all of college football right now. Let alone the college football playoff. And that person is Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. And we are in his 7th season now, Tom as the head coach at his Alma mater, Michigan. He's finally gotten past Ohio State. He's finally won the Big Ten, he has punched his first ticket to the playoff. So just how would you describe the mood around Ann Arbor right now? I think everyone around the Michigan program and the fans included coaches, players. I think the word is probably optimism. Tom van Heron is a college football reporter for ESPN who lives in Michigan and has covered the wolverines for more than a decade. Especially comparing it to what happened last season where they only won two games. I think it's night and day how everybody is viewing the program right now and the picture that I keep going back to is after Michigan won one of the games recently Aidan Hutchinson threw up his arms in the air through his head back and just started crying. And I feel like that was probably representative of a lot of Michigan fans and how they felt too. Because they've gone through a lot these past few years and you know this season, they've lost fewer games than they won last season. I feel like I should repeat that for people listening at home. They lost fewer games this season than they won last season. And they only played 6 games, but they were playing bad football last season. They were making mistakes. They shouldn't be making. And there was really no confidence on that team. So now to watch them go out and finish games. I think the direction of the arrow is going up now before his last year, it was on the way down. Yeah, so I want to track the trajectory of the stock tart that is Jim Harbaugh's Michigan with you here, Tom, because when Harbaugh got to Michigan, at the end of 2014, he was as hyped as any coach I can remember, right? I mean, this is partly because he played quarterback himself at Michigan. He had played quarterback in the NFL. He was wildly successful coaching at Stanford, and then he was widely successful coaching in the NFL with the forty-niners where he very famously came within one play of winning the Super Bowl. Coach Jim wants a holding call. But he doesn't get it. That was a game that he lost, of course, to his brother, John Harbaugh, the head coach of the Raven, so his whole family was this mythical football family. So when that particular person showed up in 2014 as the new head coach, what was the reaction back then? I think the best way this sum it up was that his introductory press conference a reporter asked him if he's comfortable being called the messiah. Last night, in east Lansing, as a matter of fact, somebody asked me if I was going to come down arbor and see the messiah. I'm wondering how comfortable or uncomfortable you are with this perception that you're the savior of Michigan football. I'm not comfortable with that at all. As I said. The reporter was saying he was the savior coming back to save Michigan because at the time, Michigan had just gone 5 and 7 the previous season under Brady hoke. There was a lot of turmoil and instability within that program. I think that fans were looking for something stable and then when they got any hint that Jim Harbaugh was even interested. I mean, it was like ears perked up. Everybody was talking about it. Everybody wanted to know if he was coming. And I don't know if you guys watched this stuff, but college coach hiring processes are some of the most fun things to watch. Well, Tom, it involves like you're tracking private jets. Right. It's very Succession. And it's also very insane. Yes. There's got to be somebody on the inside with the flight aware of tracking stuff though, 'cause I don't know tail numbers and where they're headed, but so when Michigan fans found out there was any hope that Jim Harbaugh could become the coach. I think everybody's expectations went through the roof. It wasn't fully expected that he was going to come to Michigan or he was going to leave the NFL. Some people thought he might stay in the NFL. And when they found out that he was coming back, everybody at home was sitting there like Aidan Hutchinson, throwing their arms in the air, saying we got our guy and now we're going to go on the bigger and better things. Yeah, I mean, going from the NFL to college in general, Tom certainly is not the common trajectory. It's also not common to go from, I don't know, turning the page to being expected to write an entire New Testament as it were, the religious revival expectation level. I mean, based on how the team was at that moment in time, again, 2014, how realistic was any of that enthusiasm? Yeah, he was maybe expected to depart the blue sea instead of the Red Sea, right? That's right. You know, the expectations I don't think they were fair to him, especially for just immediately at that press conference saying you're the messiah. You're the savior. You're going to bring this back. I don't think it was very realistic because they were coming off of a 5 and 7 season. And one guy magically can't come in and fix everything. And I remember at the time when he came in and everybody had these expectations and everything is going to instantly be better, I thought, you know, he's been out of the college game for a while. That means he's been out of recruiting for a while. And a lot of the recruiting is building relationships. And a lot had changed since he left Stanford. It was going to be a transition period for him and his coaches that he brought in because even the assistant that he brought in, a lot of them came from the NFL. They had more of an NFL approach to recruiting than a college approach. And that was something that Jim Harbaugh had to adjust to. And I think factored into the trajectory and how everything is played out. Yeah, so let's look at the resume before this year, right? Because it doesn't look terrible at all, right? I mean, he has a couple of ten win seasons in there, but all of which is to say that it was not enough, especially for the Michigan fan base, how would you describe how they judged that resume? I think there was some leniency at first. There was even some optimism with that first ten win season and how things were turning around. But then I think it got to a point where it stalled. And the competition level with the more elite teams, like Ohio State. It hit a certain level where fans started to ask, is this going to happen? Is he going to be able to get over the hump? Because when he came in, he came in full force, didn't care about who he upset took on Nick Saban said they were going to go recruit against Alabama, going to the south, a full fledged attack on college football and anybody and anyone that tried to get in his way. He went after him. But it didn't transpire on the field and it didn't. It didn't pan out. Ultimately, up to the level that everybody thought it would. And so at Michigan, if you win ten games, but you can't beat Ohio State, a lot of people think that's a failure. Yeah, I'll be honest here. I kind of love the fact that Ohio State is this almost binary criterion, right? If you beat them, then we could have the bigger conversation if you don't. We're not really interested in your excuses otherwise. So for those of us who are non locals here, Tom, the depths of the unhinged Ness around Ohio State, Michigan, how would you begin to describe how all consuming that is? Yeah, it's indescribable to people that don't live here. It's all encompassing. It's all consuming for this rivalry. And on both sides, if you don't win this game, it can make or break your career as a coach. And it can define your legacy as a coach. And up until this season, that's really what everybody had talked about with Jim Harbaugh. He could not beat.

I four years ten three ten three eight and five ten and three but it was clear that they were still light years away from ohio state for the most part especially towards the back end. There was the year in two thousand sixteen where they should have beaten. Ohio state That fourth down. I'm still believe that michigan should've of a you know everybody talks about the fourth down. You could've made the tackle on first down the next blood. That's all i got to say. Okay fair enough. The point is is that. I held onto the jim harbaugh thing as long as i could. Maybe not that. He was going to win a national championship michigan. But the idea that it was still better than it had been before he got there and that they were still they might not be state. But they're going to be the second best program in the big ten and they're still going to win ten games and maybe they just won't get over. "We're having a great conversation this morning about people who use life insurance now life insurance is something that is very interesting because it's very private and not a lot of people publicly announced that they're using life insurance and so that's why it can be a little bit challenging to figure out who are the high profile people who are using life insurance and so we want to talk with you about this today. Bruce brought this topic to this particular article to my attention. And so i wanted you to just share a little bit about why we're talking about this today and then we'll dig into jim harbaugh. Well i think one of one of the reasons why. I think we need to let people know about this first of all. This is not a product. This is a strategy and reason that I would say that institutions use this sh At an institution could be In this case It could be a business. Could be a private business. it could be a corporation. It could be frankly a family that can use the reason they use this. It's a it's a failsafe to actually make sure that they get Their investment protected and not just the in the person they're ensure their insurance but it's also so that they get a return on the money that they compensate the person for so that they can actually offer more compensation to that person because they know down the road. They're going to be reimbursed for that compensation in the term of the death benefit so this is a long term.

"Jim Harbaugh and and credit to Michigan's 80. This contract doesn't really have a huge buyout in it. So I think Harbaugh was looking in the mirror and he's saying himself. You know what? I don't deserve to have $20 million by Ana. I think Michigan's 80 said, You know what? We'll give you this extension, but it's pretty clear that if if you don't get the job done, you know we're gonna let Ugo and frankly, I think that What hurts the program. The most is Flirtation with the NFL over and over and over again. So you have to realize that you know what he can do this this offseason Jim Harbaugh. What he can do. He can go into Tommie Smith Living room, You know, a four star prospect in the state of Ohio and say, I just signed a five year extension come up to Michigan play for me for the next four years. Dallas Cowboys fire defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and defensive line coach Jim Tomsula

"Do have some breaking news on friday afternoon. The first friday after the dallas cowboys season ended an unfortunate start the new year for their staff. That dallas cowboys. Making some you know some obvious news in a bit of surprise news the dallas cowboys announcing that defensive coordinator. Mike nolan defensive. Line coach jim. Tom soula have been let go. Have been whatever you wanna call it fire to buy the team. They will not be back in two thousand and twenty one. Mike nolan obviously oversaw. One of the worst defenses to ever live ever played in the nfl. And so we'd heard. Rumblings obviously had been reported different instances over kind of the last month that it was likely he was not going to be back although mike nolan. If you're somehow unaware is is rather chummy with mike mccarthy dallas cowboys head coach mike mccarthy they go way back in case. You forgot mike. Nolan was the head coach of the san francisco. Forty niners in two thousand and five and mike mccarthy offensive corner at the time that was of course the year. The forty niners took alex smith with a number one overall pick. Ironically the quarterback that won the division that they were together here. This season with the dallas cowboys. Jim thome soula was a head coach of the forty niners at one point in time himself albeit for only a year obviously following in the footsteps of jim harbaugh who got an extension today of all days again with the university of michigan so lots of symmetry going on here and so. Yeah i mean my canola thing. I think everybody saw coming a mile away. The jim thome solo thing is a bit of a surprise austin on youtube. Says i thought it said mccarthy and was like whoa still good to get rid of nolan and this is how every cowboys fan feels. And let's be frank. Let's be honest. We don't enjoy talking about people losing their jobs. People getting fired or things like that but this defense was among the worst again in the history of this game. The dallas cowboys last week. With their season on the line against an offense that had been anemic for most of the season the new york giants that was incidentally again. You talk about all. The irony here led by former dallas cowboys head coach jason garrett in the giants offensive coordinator who again to go kind of crazy circle reportedly had an interview today on friday with the los angeles chargers for their head coaching vacancy. But the cowboys new york with their season on the line and they got run over. I mean the new york giants before last week against the cowboys. The previous four games. The giants had not scored more than three points in a single first half in each of the four games. The giants played before the cowboys. They went into the locker room at halftime with no more than three points. They put twenty up in the first half against the cowboys. And that was kind of what the season was for the cowboys right. This never ending display of imperfection this never ending run of records getting broken records getting set and i just you know this was inevitable. I mean shutout. Of course to the all encompassing thanos. I mean this truly was inevitable. Reality a lotta people myself. Included wondered what took so long this week. It's a pair at the mike mccarthy and his staff overall were evaluating things doing kind of the final walk throughs and assessments in whatever time just came for them to move

"Change change up just a little bit because they ran the same defense and offense, and I mean in Ohio State had time and it was urban Meyer's. We didn't know it at the time that that was his final game, and they wanted to. They wanted to give him a going away present. So The team that everybody thought that was gonna win got dominated by the team that was fired up to win this game. Yeah, And then I think there's there's a lot to that. And, uh, I You know, Michigan, uh, Michigan has had some talent, but I just think that In recent years. You kind of flipped The the the feeling in the locker room. The approach the Just the sense that Ohio State goes into that game. I don't think they care what people say about the odds and everything else. You know, they go into that game thinking, you know, we own this now. And I can't help but believe Michigan those in hoping to win I am mean, you know? Yes. You saw a situation where a lot of people were saying Michigan is gonna win this game. But boy, it just Yeah. I mean, there's no reason for a Michigan team to take anything for granted in that game these days because it has been such an Ohio state run for the last several years. You know what? John? When you go to Jim Harbaugh here we all answer the question yesterday and all three of us, Jamie and Miss and myself. We all said that we thought there I asked if What People's thoughts were the guys. Thoughts were about Michigan fans on the ones that thought that they would rather have Jim Harbaugh glitter the pros or or stay and we all thought it was over 50%. Of the Michigan fans are guests that would want them to move on. That wasn't our own personal opinion. Just what our thoughts over of in total of the Michigan fan base. I don't know if I'm making that clear enough for you. What's your read on the Michigan fan base? You think there's um Do you think there's more than you know what Jim to stay around and see this through and hope for a turnaround? Are you thinking there's more than That want him to make a jump to the pros and hit a reset with a new coach. You know what I think? It really depends as far as the Michigan fans that I run into a talk to on on what Jim Harbaugh you are talking about. What? Jim Harbaugh, you're going to get if you're talking about, uh, Jim Harbaugh. Circa 2016 on that Ohio State sideline up 10 points, firing the clipboard raging up and down the field all over the refs, providing that total emotional inspiration for his team. Uh, I did the fans. I talked to save man. Give us that all day long. Um What I have some of them wonder Yeah. He's in the same frame of mind. If he's if he is that same fiery Take no prisoners. Ah, inspirational. Jim Harbaugh, That is going tol absolutely have a team ready to go in and take Ohio State down. And You know if it if it isn't If that's not the guy. Then I would say it leans more the other way. But You know if If it works out. That Jim Harbaugh is gonna be on that field next year. There's no question in my mind of all the people that I talked to Who they want. You listen to the job board from the Wolverine John Way had John John U Bacon on yesterday and I want to ask you the same thing I asked him. What was your interpretation off the joint? Um, zoom with Jim Harbaugh and Ward manual. I mean, and I want to get I'm gonna even take it even further Are are they looking to sign a deal? Are they Are they going to do it sooner? They're going to do it after the signing period, or or Is the university Given Jim Harbaugh Little Chance toe go out and find something. Maybe come back and say, Hey, I'm out of here. Yeah, well, I think honestly, you know, I heard all about these, uh Uh, purported deal behind the scenes. That is not, you know, sitting there and hasn't been acted upon yet. They both insisted we're not doing anything or not talking about that. Until the end of the season, which is a a very out there vague prospect because you know they still could play next week, they still could play in a bowl game for crying out loud. And you know, I think I think absolutely, absolutely. They and and I think there's some sentiment. Uh, quite frankly. Among some that would say, Yeah, if you're gonna if we're gonna turn this thing around. If we're really start working on 2021 already, then then get those bowl practices and playing a ballgame. Um, you know, it's not about you don't have to get you don't have to get TOC certain number wins anymore. Anything like that. So So quite frankly, it could. It could be that situation where You know? Yeah, he's got timeto consider And and really think about. Is this, uh, something that I want to do? Is this something that where I wanna Want toe except you know that bet on myself. Sort of circumstance and move forward with it. John let me switch over to the hardwood. We have a little bit of breaking news coming from Michigan as Austin Davis. Michigan has just sent something out, saying that Davis will be out indefinitely. After suffering planner fasciitis injury against Toledo. That's further release there. I know I don't know if that's good news or bad doing the out indefinitely doesn't sound good. The best news would have been. Yeah, I was just a scared he's good to go. But, uh, that is not like any Kelly's is better than an Achilles take like to meet. You know, I've had, you know, it's one time. You know, Jamie could tell you about You know, running up and down the field in a at in Columbus and all those things the horse you I could tell you what it's like to have planter fasciitis. It feels like somebody sticks, a fork and your heel and you gotta stretch that thing and But I don't know if that's good news or bad news when it comes down to it, But we know that he's not gonna be here for the Big 10 opener against Penn State and indefinitely. Is anybody's guess. Yeah, That's very it is tough. Because what a great, great kid I mean. I know. I know a lot of people from his hometown and, uh, there have been so excited all along to see him. Fulfill his dream to come to Michigan and then to do what he did last year and earn that 50 year. Um it's a that's a really tough thing to have happened right at this point. It's difficult for the For the young man. It's difficult for Michigan because you know what a what a great Uh, five tandem. They have had going here with Austin Davis soon. See, you got that big, rugged kid in there and then you go go 200 Dickinson, the freshman who's got all kinds of talent. And and you could, you could move some other guys, you know, to go smaller and all that, but yeah, it's it's difficulty, both for Austin Davis and it's tough for Michigan at this point, because You know, Um, you're talking all of a sudden trial by fire by by the younger guy, even though he's responded tremendously, You know, he doesn't need to necessarily be playing 40 minutes a game And so they're gonna have tol figure some things out there..

"The big ten in the pack twelve are thinking they may scuttle their football seasons. Now, this was leaked yesterday by Dan Patrick. and. It is. Dan Patrick. On his morning radio show said that the big ten and the PAC twelve working together they were going to cancel their football seasons. The vote was twelve to two Nebraska and I think Michigan. Where the two that wanted to continue plane? No one else wanted to continue plane Jim Harbaugh of Michigan is really upset about it and they're pushing very hard to change this. Pete Ricketts. The governor of Nebraska, is openly calling for them to reject the idea been SAS. The senator from Nebraska is also calling on them to walk this back to not do this. The SEC met yesterday in an unplanned meeting, the SEC Commissioner in in President Se schools met yesterday, and they've decided to take a go-slow wait and see how it plays out approach harbaugh. For his his credit in Michigan has pointed out that the players on the football teams are actually more a safer than the other kids on campus the protocols they put in

"Right? So anyway, my mother. My those are my perspectives. Opinions. Great to hear you look great to listen to you because, And I appreciate Listen, because even without football I love listening to you guys. Thanks. Thanks a lot for the whole car ride. My thing is Jim Harbaugh's shouldn't know about his players. And what what? What does affect them, Especially in a pandemic. So, um, yeah, he should know. Oh, maybe the president. No, Getz Getz maybe gets this information. But like I said, if you're going to show a united front and I think you should show it in a united front in public at least. Everybody should be on the same page whether they disagree, don't they? Don't They should be in a united front. For Jim Harbaugh to put this out, and we found out that Mark's little said no to football. I mean, That's not a united front to me. Just doesn't show that way. Yeah, and Rods. Point, Jamie. I'd love to see like, I'm sure they'd like to see some of that contact data, but we don't have anything but you know the other point that he said why they would just Run that schedule out there, knowing that this day was gonna come. It might just have a fan to say. Hey, look, we can get that correction like for the Michigan Michigan State, and we put it out there. Uh, this is what we're going to dio, you know, and to get that right to make that flip. Right and And you know they're out there after Well and and I don't know. I didn't go through every other school to see if there are any other moves or or to try to get anything right there. But that did correct the wrong and soften the blow for Michigan State, as if I was a state pan out, have looked at that and said, Well, who cares? There's not gonna be any fans. Now if they put the season and it's there next year? No if they're spared some of accent way. Wait a second. Aren't we getting screwed here? So you know, maybe that's why they did it now for just Michigan. There might have been a couple of other of those You know, and they just sit there. We put this together. I did all this work. Just let him have fun for a couple days, even though they know it's it's coming. Even though they know it's happening. Like I'm sitting out there on the on the shore of the Atlantic, and I know like 100 miles away, they keep talking about you know, here comes a hurricane. I just said there with a pina colada like, Where's everybody going? You know, That was what I felt like last week way. We need to go to a break and we'll come back. The phone lines are open. Do you think the victim Moved too quick in canceling the season. Or did they cancel the season? I don't know. From what I'm reading on Twitter. I don't know could be just different. So I kind of sub tweeting as well as you can Always tweet at Dennis. 50 in F I t h I n is dense his last name. How spelled Michelle at baking Mom 14 tweeted. I'm 100% fully supporting of Jim Harbaugh and each of the coaches Irving. If we could compete better and then beat Ohio State, the sky's the limit. Ah, Dave at mystery, Mr Apathy said yes. Doesn't mean I haven't been frustrated in the 1st 5 years, but still all in And then Ah, bit of a troll tweet from a buddy of mine named Dan at D en el Stacy as a Buckeye fan, 100% all in and Dan, you're going to get help for that when I see you for the next UFC fight. You know, that's always when you're on the short end of the rivalry, people are going to give you the old. Yeah. Lifetime contract, You know, type tweet to get those. I'm looking at some. This one's for Mike that says if his name wasn't Harbaugh, he would have been rightfully so gone 18 months ago. I don't agree with that. But do I think that because he's Jim Harbaugh? And he had the resume and a track record before that has helped him out a lot of people's eyes, including any award manual. I do think that what do you think, Matt? Oh, I would agree with that. The fact that he was the quarterback here and things along those lines. I think that certainly plays in his favor. But would he have been fired? You know, 18 months ago if his name wasn't Jim, our wall eye I certainly don't think so, because as I like to remind a lot of our Michigan fan You remember where we were before Coach came here in some of the seasons that we had to suffer through again. We haven't made it to Indianapolis. We haven't made to the college football playoff where we all want to be. But to say that he would have been fired 18 months ago of his name was Jim Harbaugh. Well, I would I would have to strongly disagree with that one. That one. All right, 734998 and 50. We will take Ah mohr of your calls and read more of your feedback about how close to all in Are you with Jim Harbaugh Plus We will mix in a topic about sports stadiums, and that came about by just talking with Matt Leach on the phone. Paul Finebaum reacts to Michigan president's comments

"Was some very important news yesterday. Out of the University of Michigan where the President Dr Mark Schuessel? Who has an immunologist by training? Not The most common thing you see for a president a State University made a lot of news by tapping down some of the positivie about college football talking about how there would be no college football unless students were on campus. He referred to his training as a medical doctor. Phd In relation to doubting seriously that there could be college football fans in the stadiums and they also broke down the importance of college football but in the context of the University of Michigan overall. Dowse a little water on that as well saying that the university stand on its own. This comes in some contrast to what Jim told us last week on on get up when he said he would be okay with football. As long as he didn't he said he would. He would prefer fans but it would be okay without fans who better to talk to you than Giannis. Bacon was written callous books on the University of Michigan and certainly among the very leading experts in the world the on that subject John. Thank you Happy Memorial Day and first of all great to have you on with us and we hope you've been safe and well over these last couple of months Always a pleasure Paul and so far so good. The only we need is forty hours of daycare for weeks. My four and a half year old kid if you've got a babysitter send them up For All you've done for us I'll I'll give you some good recommendations Thank you. Let's talk about the this. I thought was a really fascinating comment first of all. Let's talk about President Schnitzel in terms of who is he what his credentials are then. They're incredible but have someone like that. Move into the presidency at school at the University of Michigan. Well his background is Brown University And California cal Berkeley so the pedigree and all that he's got a PhD in some former science probably immunology say as well as an MD. So you couldn't call them stupid He's probably also not the biggest football fan in the world. I think he probably loves the Brown model. Where you play. But it's not Nearly the importance as it is in the big ten or the SEC and so on But also knows where he is that Hundred Thousand People Disagree and they love it quite a bit so he is definitely on a high wire there But clearly his roles immunologist took over in his latest. Talk as you said if you days ago and I guess yesterday sorry And Yeah you say is very clear about this that if all the students aren't on campus. We're not going to have intercollegiate sports of any sort at least at Michigan which is not to say the big ten goes along with that or the rest of college athletics. But it's pretty hard back back down from that once you've said that and as you pointed out Paul that goes counter to what Jim Harbaugh said a few days earlier that he'll take football and almost any form Fans in the stands or not. Some graduated schedule some sort of Not Black or white but Modified approach would be fine with Jim. Which I'm sure is almost all major college football coach so I see a conflict there and I'm pretty sure I know who's going to win it. Yeah I mean there may be some school football coaches that have the clout to go head to head with the president. I doubt Jim Harbaugh wants to do that. Unless it's twenty minutes after beating. Ohio state I I I WANNA ask you. I WanNa ask you about about his comments about the budget. You know the school inside and now obviously I mean. I don't want to translate for him but he seemed to be saying that you know we we would this football but we're going on with or without it. Yeah and Miskin can right now Now the catch that is not all the big ten can goes out football Sunday. The MAC you can't. I mean look at Eastern Michigan Kent State places like that Miami of Ohio so the separation between haves and have-nots stronger not weaker. Now its biggest. Cost Ball is of course nationwide and gets all the attention at Michigan. The budget for the entire Athletic Department is around one hundred and eighty five million dollars which is almost doubled in ten years which says something right there and yet the budget for the whole university assist seven billion with a B. dollars so and half of that as a medical school on the health system so the football budget is big. It might beat us That's what they spend on rubber gloves at the hospital. So it's not that big a deal to the president. John you have a pretty good pulse on the The Michigan Fan base. I asked gently what has been the reaction about what the president said yesterday. Some folks feel yeah. Maybe there's mixed generous maybe it is It is going to be hard to argue though without students on campus having football. You're talking about exploiting the students who are in your student athletes who are not paid etc. I was become a hot button. Issue the last few years as it always should be I think That becomes greater when you're perhaps risking their health When you're not risking the other students health To play football. So that's one point of view. The flip side of course is that stadium is both the hold one hundred ten thousand people and if not for nothing of course so obviously people wanNA play football In any way she performed they possibly can Go Back Paul and nineteen eighteen when Michigan played the first game during the pandemic early October. And it flared up nationwide thereafter so they did not play again until November The team went five that your politics and on the big ten which counts as big ten champs and yes five Cowan as national champs. If only if only we're talking to John Bacon The New York Times bestselling author. He's written countless books on the University of Michigan. I WanNa take a break here because there are many issues beyond what the Michigan President feels. Although his comments probably going to be heard pretty loudly and other ivory towers around the country. I WanNa talk to John when we come back about what college football faces in trying to open up more comments from the esteemed author John U

"Times. I mean we would go out there in the morning and having eight o'clock practice and then we would come back around one two o'clock in the afternoon right in the heat of it and we would go out there and put the pads on and get after it Just to kind of say hey in their players bought into it. Hey we're this game mentality and it's going to be hot so I think psychologically than it definitely played a big part I don't know how much the opponent side but definitely it helped us. You know I looked at. I also think if you have a rookie quarterback who's GonNa play like the Bengals. I looked Cincinnati schedule coach. Holy Moly Cincinnati all these pass rushes in the first couple of months. If you did you ever look at your personnel and think well you know what I think. You're hitting on something that's worth talking about. Because I've done two or three days primarily bear shows in the last week or two and I really feel this the teams that have new coaches rookie head coaches and rookie quarterback's they've always been a little bit behind because of transition but now doing all this stuff through zoom in virtual. You know it's all you cannot get in there right now. Work on the timing. I mean if you've got a defense is one thing you can line up and turn a moose but offensively. I think that's the position it's GonNa suffer a little bit and primarily the time you're the quarterbacks and receivers and the running backs and the audibles and the checks. You can't do that you could talk about. It sounds good. You know in a clinic but reality is you have to be on the field and be coached so now and then you got hurt Matt. Roll the other day. I was talking to one of his assistant coaches and he said the most difficult thing that match do having right now. Is You try to get in there and you try to set your own foundation culture. Whatever you WANNA call it as a new head coach for the program and now you're doing it so you know I mean think about it so it's I think it's a real advantage if I was better team right now and I've got everybody back on my staff back on my quarterback boy. I'm feeling I'm feeling really good about starting their seasons by the way the Baltimore Ravens not like they needed any help but they don't have a west coast game last year. The jets got really lucky. They didn't have much west. Coast stuff do you think? Meanwhile Seattle always has to go east coast. Those were three thousand mile trips. Does the length can that hurt you at all? If you've got several trips as a Miami coach all the way West you know what we never if you're going from the West like you're talking about Seattle going to the east coast. I've never really experienced that but being from Miami I mean it takes us an hour to fly out of the State of Florida as you know Collins so I mean when we were play the raiders and we played Seattle. We just had them. We never left early. We would go our normal day. We would fly out Saturday. We would get off. We'd be up early on Sunday and we would go play the game and we had a lot of success. We never thought that. That was a factor. So I you know. I don't think it's as big a deal. We never made an adjustment two days early. A lot of teams do a lot of teams do and they believe in going back to our Dallas Cowboy days and then I never did it the bears and we never did it at the dolphins so going east or west. We never did anything I can't I can't speak for the other way. Nfl Ota's potentially shortened training camps. How difficult would that be to deal with as a head coach? Well as I said earlier. Defensively it's not a problem. I mean you can put your defense in guys go out and run around garbage cans and get to the right spot and you're GONNA be okay but boy. The receiver stuff the offensive line. You know trying get those guys to work as a unit And the communication between them and the quarterback. You know it's it's to be difficult I You Know I. I'm not sure really if if I'm if I'm a head coach I think I would rather have two weeks an extra week or two of training camp practice and eliminate a game or two. You know 'cause sometimes you get into a game and boy guys can lose confidence in a hurry. You know you go in there with with Joe Boroughs and your lines not ready to receive. I don't know what to do. And he looks terrible and he knew I mean so I think it depending one they did the go sign in the NFL if something was going to give up a preseason game or two just to have a week or two of practice to really get a good base good foundation established by the way you'd still very prominent in Chicago. Do a lot of radio shows there Ryan? Pace did something most. Gm's don't like to do he admitted Mitch. Trubisky doesn't work and they went and got nick foles. Are you surprised that a GM pretty early in his quarterbacks career is signaling? I wept well. I'M GONNA go back to our shows last year. Our kickoff show calling. I'm still believing in Mitch. I believe that Mr Bisky wins the job. I think that Mr Bisky is is a starting quarterback at the bears. You know it's GonNa be tough on the come back. But look at Nick foles and I love Nick as much as a person as I do as a quarterback but the guy's performance as average the last four years so now you're going to come into a new system. I just think that Mr Bisky is going to be the guy and I think that this is good I think. They put a sense of urgency in them. We're not gonNA guaranteed twenty five million dollars. You know you wanna you're going to have to earn it and I think that he'll accept the challenge. I'm I know I'm a minority in Chicago. I do you know you said radio when I do too. Tv shows and I've been. I just think that the US Mitch Trubisky Right. Run the ball with that defense you can. I get in the playoffs tomorrow. I really believe that and keep in mind. I love what Ryan pasted in the off season for any bear. People are out there watching the he. You know we all talk about this all the time having a window to win well. Everything that they did in the off season is to win. Now when you signed Jimmy Graham and you signed Robert Quinta de pass rusher and you signed it force and you signed Danny forbade them back at linebacker. These are all guys that are playing for one reason to get a ring and I love that mentality with that football team Dave one stat foxsports Guy College football guy to So I didn't get to talk to you about this. It's one thing for the packers. The draft a quarterback but if they had a drafted a wide receiver with their second pick. I felt I think you could make the argument to Aaron is listen. We're drafting a kid that we think he has your town for years but when they went quarterback running back never went and got a receiver. It looks like Green. Bay's trying to make a statement and I get Aaron Rodgers be potentially pest. Wh What did you make of love being picked and no receiver deep receiver draft. Not Being selected. Yeah I'll tell you what and I don't know much about love. Obviously a great talent I. I'm not questioning that. But my first thought was they better be careful that they don't end up being. Tom Brady and the New England patriots because all last year we about that the Patriots had you know had the second most drops of any receiving group and they were making mistakes and they were young group and Tom didn't have the supporting cast and obviously Aaron younger and he's still got more strength and things like that but still you better be darn careful that you know your best player. I think you've gotta give him as much help as possible. I was disappointed. I truly I thought the packers should've stepped up and really tried to help Aaron Rodgers. Yeah so WANNA talk. College Football Michigan coach. Jim Harbaugh I think you and I both like him more than the average person he wrote. This you know open letter to college football. Oh wrote it to the college football community any talked about you know what we should let players go when they want to go to the NFL and the cynical part of me thinks yeah. Of course he does because they're all be sec players so when he he wrote this idea that players should be able to you know make themselves draft eligible? And if they don't get picked they can come back and it should all be eligible the minute after their freshman year what was your takeaway on that by Jim. Yeah I I like half of it. I always agreed 'cause I had players at Pitt we had real reebus and the Shawn McCoy Dion Lewis you know. Somebody's players. I knew we're going to be first or second. Round draft picks. I would tell them. Go Get Outta here right now but if a guy was going to be an I had players that were six one kid never got drafted and he and his agent Adam convinced he was going to be a fourth rounder Done him a lot of good to be to have the opportunity to come back for another year so I don't like the idea of leaving after your freshman year but I do really like the idea that if a kid wants to change his mind that he has that option to do it or if he gets drafted in certain round that maybe you don't WanNa waste the first round pick on him. Obviously and then the kid decides to stay in school but after a certain round that wouldn't be cost free two year program to your club. I like that idea of a guy going back into draft. Yeah so what? Are you doing the last couple of months? Well you know what? I don't WanNa Saad disrespected. Anybody but Florida is has been really progressive. I had my knee replaced the week after the Super Bowl so that day. Me Something to do for the next week. At least I had rehabbed three days a week and I went to and now I am for the Florida here. The beaches are opened. The restaurants are open I'm playing golf once a week. Sometimes twice I'm biking swimming so I'm pretty much back to normal in the in the city. Naples has been good. You know down here. The people have been very very aware and following all the social distance guidelines and I think so far so good so I I have no complaints. Yeah love talking to coach. Thanks for stopping by you. Know I love you and the Naples. Florida is one of my favorite places. Good talking all right by. Yeah by the way I. Yesterday I went for a long run joint one this morning and I wear a mask around my neck and pull it up if I have to. People are incredibly respectful. This idea that you're going to open stuff up and everybody's going to rush back to be in restaurants. It's just not the case. It's just not the case. People are going to be very calm. I mean I'll just tell you. If you opened up restaurants I would maybe go once a week. Only the places where I knew the owner and knew I could get a seat with space. That would be. That would be like the idea that people are so dumb. You're going to open it up. Everybody's got rush back people that have underlying medical issues. They're they're not dumb. They're they know they're in the crosshairs. They're going to stay back in young twenty eight year old person in great shape. Spry GONNA say I'm GonNa go to the beach but even when people go to the Beach. I went to the beach. I saw the beach last weekend. In Ventura County Joy. People were surfers. They were all standing apart people that were walking on the beach. They were all like twenty yards out there. Moving to different sides like people are respectful. They just don't WanNa be trapped in their home. We need to sometimes understand that This country's based on having a lot of personal freedoms and people make good choices. It's not perfect. But when I've watched people in my community and on beaches they're very respectful. They stay separate. They have masks or cloth with them. I think sometimes the media portrays everybody is. You're going to open stuff up and everybody's just going to rush back. Give everybody a big hug. Breathe on them and I just don't see that happening well more than anything. People just want to get back to work I do. It's all about joy Taylor with the news on the news. This is the third line news so the browns did not live up to their very high expectations.

"Is special to people all over the country. We're in a really fortunate situation this year to have the cowboys game on Thanksgiving, and then come back a month later with this Minnesota New Orleans game on Christmas Day, we're really grateful to the saints for Being Willing To post game on Christmas Day and and I. Think they're the right market to. To, do it it gives us really powerful matchups in the case of Chris Game, a playoff rematch and a game that ended in kind of surprising way on Christmas when everybody's at home, it'll, it'll be between the opening of the presence in everybody's Christmas dinner. Good time to sit down and watch a football game. and I'm really excited about it I. Think it's a great way for the NFL to plant a flag on a second major holiday. You know it's it's interesting, NFL. You told me this yesterday. Their software. They put all the. The potential games into software, and it just flies out it just give me about a minute description of how much time and how much effort the NFL puts into their schedule. Yeah it's an enormous undertaking, and our role is really more as a lobbyist. We don't get to choose our games the way that we get to choose our games in college football where we literally have a draft with Disney to set those matchups the league. That's the matchups. Our role is strictly advisory, and each network makes the best case they can for their game, so that process starts well before the previous. Previous season's Super Bowl we've a very in depth conversation just before the Super, bowl about what worked and could have worked better in the previous season, and what our wish list is for both the Thursday package and the Sunday package, and then they take our requests every other networks request requests that come from but teams logistical considerations like that share, a stadium or share a parking lot with a baseball team or other. Conflicting days that they might have in all of these factors go into their software into their modeling, and as as you say, it spits out hundreds of thousands of. Genes of the schedule until you finally get a couple hundred, that Merritt kind of closer consideration and then at the very very end just before the finish line, it gets down to just one or two that they may be elevated to the commissioner for a final approval the effort that the lead puts into it is extraordinary and I. Don't want to overstate our role in it, because we really are advisory, and as I say we act more like lobbyists. They really bake the cake and we're the ones. Ones that just put it in the display case we benefit from all of their effort Michael. Molehill had a strategy analytics at Fox sports great stuff, good talking in bud great talking to you man, he's yet. We all got smarter. And that's how it works for the NFL's standpoint now coming up next on my thoughts on the Dallas cowboys schedule and Jim Harbaugh Talkin. But what is he selling the Michigan head coach? That's next. "The angels formerly of the COBS Michael Hills an executive at our country. That will break down the schedule. Really Smart Guy with the League was thinking enjoy. Taylor is joining me. Last night was fun. I did a show with Tristan Thompson. March slayeth and Jason McIntyre. It's so easy to do TV. Now I'm doing in a radio studio I can do it in Gulf shores last night. It is It's a fun day for us. I Love Today. Show it is. You're getting spoilt on. I am I gonNA lie. I have secretly done show a couple times this week in my Tommy John Lounge wear why not? It's it's the future of what we're dealing. I JUST. I read a story last night. About how American business and how people are now going to work from home. I don't think it's a terrible thing by the way it it. It will reduce traffic issues. It'll save people money in America which will be a big thing going forward but let's start. Nfl schedule and I've said before. I never going to look at a good team and a tough schedule and go. They're done or a bad team in an easy schedule and go out there. They'll be a playoff team. But I do every year. Look at the schedule and I modify alter my win loss total. That's why yesterday I gave out my nfl standings pre schedule and this morning there's four or five teams In particular. I'm going to add to wins to one team and subtract two from another team. Because I felt I felt the schedules were that advantageous. So let me just start with two teams that I think got the raw end of the deal with the schedule and I didn't. I didn't love this team anyway. Cincinnati they got no brakes no. Ota's young coach. Rookie quarterback forced to play a dubious offensive line and the Cincinnati. Bengals have to face six of the top seven pass rushes with a rookie quarterback and a truncated camp chargers browns at Cleveland at Philadelphia at Baltimore at Indian browns again. So of the six of the seven tough games. Four or on the road at Cleveland at Philly at Baltimore at indy now deforest buckner brutal and then the end of the season they face three teams that will probably be vying playoff spots the steelers the Texans in the Ravens little softer in in the Middle. But this is an overwhelming schedule. They didn't get they got one. Give me early Jacksonville. They didn't get Miami when they could use them. They didn't get the giants or Washington. They bury those the team. Lordy be buried. This is a bad break for a team. That's going to start a rookie quarterback and we're dealing with a virus and we don't know how much prep time he'll get and you know it's funny about this because you know it's just tough. Division rookies gotTA start brutal schedule young head coach brutal brutal and Bengal fans. I'm a hater because I had him at five and Eleven Fox. Bat has them favored in one game this year. So if it stays true to form their one in fifteen. I don't think that bad but I literally to that schedule and I reduce the number of wins. I had Cincinnati at five and eleven. Got A ton of negative feedback on that like. I was delusional. They haven't won a playoff game since ninety one. The team they beat no longer exists. The Houston oilers so to me. I I would put them now at three or four wins. We'll talk about that top of next hour when I redo my standings. Here's another team so you think. Oh I just hate Joe Borough. Here's another team. I'm going to downgrade winds SAM darnold. I love him. Juice Bar Rudol. So here's a team. That's rebuilding their offensive line through the draft in free agency. Look at the jets for seven weeks. Bills Defense. Niners pass rush cold pass rush Denver Bradley Chubb. Von Miller chargers pass rush buffalo again. All they get a break then they get to go to Kansas City. That is the to me tough schedule in the NFL. It lightens up later but for a team that is. They don't even know their tackles yet. A rookie left tackle a second year right. Tackle may be a brand new center. This is not the way the New York jets needed the schedule to work out. So the bengals. I'll do some wins jets. I may reduce them to wins top of the hour. I'll talk about all talk about the new schedule. I've changed it up. We'll get to it in forty five minutes now in the opposite. These are teams. I liked and I don't know if it makes me think they'll win more. But it confirms the fears. I had about my prediction so liked. Take San Francisco Forty niners scheduling breath. Now I got him winning eleven games anyway but Super Bowl. Losing teams join. We've talked about this before. There can be a little bit of a hangover especially like Atlanta. When you lose the Super Bowl that should have one and you lose the lead and everybody questions your Moxie and you come out the next year flat. That's what Atlanta did San Francisco. I worry about that but they got a scheduling break. So the first three teams they play are all rebuilding. Their offensive line's Arizona. The jets and the giants with San Francisco's Defensive Front being the strength of the team even drafted another defensive line in the first round. That's a break. That is a break that you you could not play well and just simply overwhelm young auditioning offensive lines. Then after that they get three straight home games philly Miami Rams all at home so they get weaker. Teams got travel for a couple tougher games. They get at home. Rebuilding offensive line's rebuilding teams. Young head coaches new staff young quarterbacks. I don't know if it makes me think San Francisco wins more games but it reassures me concerned. I had about San Francisco having a super bowl hangover. Here is a second team again. I HAVE CLEVELAND. Winning Nine Games becoming a playoff team. I wanted to see the schedule to reaffirm. I thought it could fall two different ways. I liked the way it felt for Cleveland. So at Baltimore. Sucks an opener. There's no getting around that. That is a tough opener. But after that Cleveland gets the opposite of last year get an early scheduling break. Cincinnati Washington at home to rebuilding rosters Cleveland rebuilding roster. Then after that for the next six or so weeks they get really average defensive teams as they break in new tackles a new coach and a new system. A New Tight End Dallas Defense Cincinnati. Defense Reiter Defense Texans defense and then there's a buy in there so unlike last year where they went through a five or six weeks stretch early in the season last year. Five out of six weeks where they faced like like like elite defensive coordinators elite coaches elite. Pass rushes this schedule. They face couple rebuilding teams early and then softer defenses. Dallas doesn't have an elite pass rush. Cincinnati's pretty good on the Interior. The defensive line but they had to go bringing new players defensively. 'cause they were lousy last year. Raiders can't stop anybody. Houston's got all sorts of secondary issues so again I thought for Cleveland. It confirms what I believe a week ago. Which is if the schedule falls right. Bakers going to tighten it up to supply off team so bingles jets. I'm subtracting winds niners browns. I don't necessarily think they get additional wins but they got a scheduling break. It kind of falls in their favor because I do think with Cleveland. When you have a new coach you come off a rough year. It's easy for people to bail. You go four again this year you can get. Ob J. don't teach yourself. You can lose guys in the locker room fast. So I thought Cleveland and San Francisco got breaks. It's good to have you I. Top of next hour Dave wants will stop by to talk some thoughts. Jim Harbaugh had about college football as a former bear and Dolphin. Head Coach D. Look at the schedules. with your personnel. Do you get some breaks. A you know Andy. Reid was funny yesterday. I mean candidate is GonNa win a bunch of games. I don't worry about them but I thought Kansas got a little bit of a break in an anti picked up into immediately. They play the Florida teams later in the year. So it's not a sauna and they play. They have a very good vertical passing game in Kansas City. They.

"New podcast from the Dodo. An animal saved my life. The DODO is the most watched animal storyteller on social, and now it's bringing those stories to life in audio. Since I was a kid. I've helped rescue some of the most vulnerable animals now we're going to hear about animals who have gone above and beyond to return the favor to the people they love. On this podcast will hear about animals who have pulled people away from media, danger, or from the throws of addiction, one of my favorite. is about a named PJ and his dog Clo- when they met, they were both recovering from trauma, or they found each other. They also found the strength to face anything that had his fear, leaving the House and showing myself the real world. Here we are sending on this mountain to celebrating life. You're about a dog who is untrained knows detects her mom's cancer sooner than a machine cam and a pit bull who put herself in between her mom and an oncoming train listened to an animal, saved my life on the iheartradio APP on Apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast. Three Taveuni. Many of you do not like Jim Harbaugh because of his personality, and because he makes a lot of money and Blah Blah Blah Blah. Blah I am a database fact based show. I'm not interested in your opinion should be very interesting to note however that Las. Vegas and Fox Bat and multiple casinos. Have Michigan at nine wins, but that's not the story. The story is that Michigan State is now at four, and a half winds projected over underwent total that means Vegas, says that's the media that's the number I would take with Michigan. State the over not much. Stanford's also now at five and a half. Isn't that interesting so Jim? Harbaugh arrived at Michigan. The rival Michigan State was averaging ten point six wins the years before he got there from two thousand ten to two thousand fourteen, they were now second best program in the conference to Ohio State ten point six wins. What they've averaged the last four. Facing Harbhajan recruiting six point eight. Crushed the rival in State Stanford was a power with harbaugh beating. Pete Caroline USC they're over under total now last couple of years five and a half. By the way, the forty niners failed in their first two attempts to replace harbaugh before they found. Kyle Shanahan seeing a trend here, we'll count and Michigan hasn't won a national title. They don't because there's five football powers right now in America and they do not qualify as that Alabama Ohio state, Oklahoma. Clemson and I would put in Georgia I would not put an Lsu because they before Joe Borough in the coach, Brady got there they were struggling, and they may struggle after I think I. Don't think they'll be nearly as good this year. But there's five powerhouse programs of the hundred and twenty in the country. They're not that I do believe they fall into the next group. lsu Notre Dame Wisconsin Michigan. Penn state very good football teams. Nine ten wins plan major bowls, but Michigan historically has never been Alabama and Ohio state at its best or Clemson. It is a nine to ten win program academically tougher in a state without a bunch of players. They have to go to warm weather cities and convince kids to come in Michigan's never been a great High School Football State Ohio is Alabama is the Carolinas can be Los. Angeles Atlanta Dallas can be not Michigan, so he has to go out of the state and get players, but if you start looking at the historic trends of Michigan at their best right coach, they were nine games. Harbaugh I take the over this year favored to win nine games, so he's in fought by the way Michigan with winning six games the previous three years before Harbaugh, he's added thirty percent wins. So. Eat that. All you, Michigan State rival in the tank Stanford now, not very good. Even in the PAC twelve forty niners took two coaches replace them Michigan's winning their historic number nine Ano- by the way they were winning six before he got there. You like produce. I like them apples. In your! I love winning. Argue about Soviet. Joy. Heard on the news. This is the headline news. Mature. that was a good line. I never heard that one before Major League Baseball has reportedly begun discussing the possibility of returning as early as may plan, would include all teams playing games in the Phoenix area players and stop living in relative isolation is also reportedly it also reportedly has supported high-ranking federal public health officials. Who believe the League and operate during the pandemic released a statement today in response to saying this is just one of many contingency plans that the league is looking into, and they have not settled on that option or developed a detailed plan. They also said while they continue to interact directly with governmental and public health officials. They have not sought or received any approval of a plan. So why can't they just you know are so caught up in playing seven inning doubleheaders. Why can't they just play one hundred games like just like why the NBA is going to have no problem. Join just going all right. We're GONNA. Start the playoffs. Why is baseball? So they have to play this vast number of games played eighty five games and had a great postseason. Wouldn't we all be like? Kinda like baseball when the Games mean more. Yes I mean we all for the most part unless you are a baseball purist or you are, of course an owner, you know commissioner wanting to make as much money for the League as possible then. Yeah, of course Sean that side the baseball regular season this long long. We all know that it's too long it's we're pretty much all in agreement on that. This is an opportunity base for baseball to be flexible, and they are likely to have to be flexible, or they're not going to get the season in. It's just too many games to squished together it's. Playing game after game like that is not healthy for the players, either to play that close together in order to fit them all in, but as I said, this is, this is a little bit a little bit aggressive, especially considering May to be the jump off for this, and as you mentioned earlier, Phoenix's is quite hot. which way we a good thing to have all of the Games there, and then as far as keeping everyone an isolation, there's a lot of moving parts there's. There's a lot of details maybe for three weeks. Maybe but you want to ask these players to be away from their families for five months I. that's weird. It's not realistic. Dana White is doing everything he can to get the UFC up, and running during this time is already locked down a secret location for UFC. Two forty nine continue on, April eighteenth, in for what he hopes will be weekly fights over the next few months, but he's also working to secure a private islands that will be able to host the events with fighters from. From around the world he plans to fly the fighters in on private planes and test, everyone frequently to make sure that those on the island are healthy. Habib was initially slated to fight Tony Ferguson in the main event at UFC two forty nine until pandemic has him stuck in Russia at the moment, so he will not be able to do that Guston. Justin Gate. She took his place at this is this is a little more realistic while it kind of sounds like a movie. Sounds exactly like Bruce Lee movie this this idea is actually more realistic because you are able to control the situation at a higher level, there's way less people involved able to test insecure an island where no one is coming in or out of, but then of course you know. How long are you there? You're going to have to fly shift in joy I think they make their money and pay per view. View so in the end. If you have a good looking ring, you could have a Raff to fighters. Everybody's everybody's got gloves on by the way including the official. This is a sport that doesn't make the gates. Okay, but it's a pay per view sports. This makes total sense to me as far as the fans being there i. don't even that's not even.

Proposed federal law seeks to limit skyrocketing salaries of college coaches

"Well anyway. I I call one of your stories. He's just week. We're talking about salaries and congress trying to put a cap on things and you. Did I think a an amazing. I don't know how you doug all this up. A deep dive live into the evolution of coaching salaries. Take us through that process. Yeah I one of the one of the most interesting thing about college. Football is how in twenty twenty I guess in our in our myopic nature point twenty we think that we all have these like little arguments novel discussion Russia. We've been doing this thing for one hundred fifty years at this point in time there are quite a bit of things that just are not new and some of that is complaining about too many bowl games but another one of those things is talking about how coaching salaries are way too high. I mean it's it's it has quite literally almost almost always been like this. I mean Amos Alonzo Stagg at Chicago making six thousand dollars in eighteen eighteen ninety two now I went back and use the consumer price report and price some of these salaries out in you know twenty eighteen at the time buying power. And you know. That's six thousand dollars. Amazon does stag was making then was worth like a hundred and sixty thousand dollars back in eighteen. Ninety two there has always been this separation between what highly paid college. Football coaches made Versus what the Common Man Colombian mix. You know I'll I'll bring it to your audience and hit them home like bear Bryant when he's doing. Brian show that that famous Sunday highlight show That that became formative so formative for a lot of Alabama fans. He wasn't doing that just out of the good report he was because he was getting paid there Bryan getting in pay. That's why I thought he. I thought you said he was a benevolent. So I believe you remember this because you weren't born but he also had to Eat the potato chips and drink cocoa which by the way had bourbon in it. Yes absolutely I mean like bear. Bryant was Bear Bryant was cheering the back right now. Yeah so I find it amazing we we. We had a professor on earlier who who was very much a part of the Donna? Shalala Team Wanting to limit coaching Ching salaries so When did they make the big turn? When did they start going? I mean as as some of the critics say out of control to me. It really doesn't matter what any of these guys make but TAKE A. When was the big turn? I think they really and truly exploded in the nineteen eighties because in the nineteen eighties. That's when that Supreme Court hate happened with like Georgia Oklahoma and you know they got. TV rights You know they divorced the TV rights from the NCAA and schools colleges then became able to go. She ate television rights As entertaining defended themselves. Obviously than we get into the CFO era and BCS. And what we have now where the SEC. Disperse what was it. Six hundred and fifty some odd the million dollars yesterday give or take a few million yeah To all fourteen member schools. I mean look. The bedrock of this cannot be overstated. The bedrock bedrock of this is this when you as an Athletic Department at Florida Alabama at Lsu is Florida state when you do not have to pay your labor force when you do not have to compensate you or athletes. That money has to go somewhere now. That money goes to beyond coaching salaries. I mean that's the facilities race that is everything. Everything that makes these college will programs at opulent as they can be obviously a really really big part of the PIE now. Is Coaching salaries. Now Coaching coaching salaries the early eighties. That's stuff starts to get reported. That's my really really starts coming into Coming into the sport in a way that it had really really before that By the time you get through the mid nineties Florida's paying Steve Spurrier the one of the first billion dollar contracts so that he doesn't jump to the NFL at that time honestly the NFL itself explodes. You've got that competition. So it's it's the competition that that spurs in any industry the street Salaries and money and will lose those things but the early eighties. I think is where we can really pinpoint when college athletics kind of started growing up from a from a fiscal standpoint talking to Richard Johnson from a better society in now we all know what is going on. I'm interested where were you. Were you sit on this. Because the the so called Donna. Shalala proposal We heard Professor Ridpath on this would would curtail a lot of things I find find. It somewhat amusing chancellors and presidents at Private Schools More so than public schools making. I'm five six million dollars a year We have an offensive and defensive coordinator is making major seven figure salaries I know is a highly paid journalists. Where we're we're are you on what Shola is is attempting to to do at least down one lane in Congress right. I think you have a good point. the the facilities boom and the salary boom of coaches collect directors and the things that we coach Sports Mirror. That of what we see on the institutional side at a lot of these verses and I think that is one thing thing that really gets lost you know like you said like g Foreign President of like West Virginia. Like these guys make guys and girls make six figures seven figures. There is a lot of money in higher education in the United States at the highest levels. college athletics is it is not an outlander But like studies have shown time and time again going back thirty forty fifty years that when your football all team is good when your basketball team is good It becomes you know they always say that is the front porch of the university. Admissions skyrocket when athletics. Do well and that is. Why a lot of these University of course than anything else I think? Put Up with and we'll pay out the nose for Nick Sabin or Jim Harbaugh or a Davos. We or whatever I think the dirty secret is is the weight from Ro a lot of these endowments in some of these very popular. Schools would shrink a lot more than people wanNA realize. No I mean just look around. I mean boone pickens. She died recently. I mean the the amount of money that he put into Oklahoma state and I don't I don't mean to disparage Oklahoma state in stillwater Oklahoma. Oh my been there. And if you haven't Richard Make sure that you put that on your bucket list. Wouldn't it wouldn't have had that type of money And and a lot of these Jerry Jones. He's given to the University of Arkansas. You can go down the list And I mean and it's because of one thing we're trying to win in in in college football or basketball depending on on on where you live and what part of the country you're in. Yeah absolutely I saw a stew. MANDL's works in the for pretty athletic. He He has a college pat column and somebody asked him Ten million dollars. What would you do with it to build a staff? And I look the question and I was like look man if you WANNA compete with Alabama Lsu Clemson Oklahoma Ohio state. You need more your salary. You Pool has to be bigger than ten million dollars. I mean on on its face. You'RE GONNA have to pay a coach at that level. Five five and a half six six billion dollars. You'RE GONNA have to pay your coordinators eight hundred nine hundred thousand dollars because Dave Aranda was was pulling such a salaried Lsu a few atmosphere necessarily because he was such town defensive coordinator which he is but it was because one opinions coordinator so that the only job job they'll leave for is a G. Five or or power five kids coaching job. It's got bulletproof coordinators. I WANNA lose them. I don't want to take collateral. If they leave me they gotta take step up so okay. You're paying both your coordinators Like one point eight billion dollars between the two. That's like eight million dollars. Just gone to the head coach in coordinators. Now you're in another like five million dollars higher director staff your eight assistant coaches which is all right. That's your ten assistant coaches You want to compete with Georgia Alabama. All right we'll have a party because you have to fill out the rest of those staffs with analysts. We assist tense You know you gotTa have a staff of three saw guys kind of the shadow. Coaching staff that that Alabama kind of those famous or infamous. No matter how how are depending on which by the fence you went on but You know it takes money to keep up with the Joneses and it takes a lot of line really want we national championship. Always great to have you on Richard other than chicken. What's the what's the second most favorite food that you'll be serving the super bowl party Sunday lady a friend is bringing some guacamole? She'll be homemade guacamole. I'm not a big block fan but you know you know how this you gotta try say like it. So that'll that'll it'll be my My side dish. I cannot wait I if I'm in the neighborhood I'll just drop Bil- bring some bring bring a some some fruit cake leftover from Christmas. I couldn't give away Gringa fruitcake. Brings some cold ones man. I'll have seat for you right on the couch next to meatball. Thank you great. Great to talk to you again come back soon. Have you

College football rankings: Who will be #5?

"We know one thing's going to be different this year the playoff it doesn't look like Alabama is going to get there how curious are you to see who the number five team is going to be in the rankings when they come out tomorrow night I I can't imagine it being anybody but you tell at this point I guess Oklahoma does have a have a chance that I think more importantly it'll be interesting to see where Baylor is were you taught is and and then where you know because those those are the games to get even Oregon is going to come down to could you give more credit to by winning their conference whether it is Oklahoma Baylor winner or the Utah Oregon winner if you don't know if Oklahoma when those games talking to Joey Galloway was Michelle pens or performance sign enjoys doing at that spot is going to cite a lot going for for that fourteen but right now there seems to be such a clear weight class difference at one through three when we talk about is your heiau state and Clemson if you had to you know put any meaningful amount of money on it right now who do you think of those three is actually the best on the field regardless of what the resume looks like I would be afraid to put any amount of money on any of them on a deadly all three teams on a given day could be each other because they are that talented I think I think it took awhile for people to get back to respecting Clinton you can go through time frame and in a season where they don't look great and it makes people nervous they sort of jump off board but if you've watched Clinton on film all fees long even even when they did have a one point loss the north I would they didn't have a great day there are extremely talented football team that has been there and done and that is the advantage that Clinton has over LSU over Ohio state they've been in the past for five years so they they what to expect and what happens when you get in the playoffs but as far as from my account definitely things on the field it will be hard to pick one over the other two so Joey you had mentioned that you think you tell still be number five so if that's the case or by the Oklahoma six and Baylor seven with organ probably in their fourteen may be moving up to twelve so still outside the top ten so for Utah to make it into the final four should Georgia lose is that mean this is going to come down to style points to the committee yeah I think so and I think in a season where of the committee had said that eyeball test matters because if if we wanted to just go by that metric of this thing then there is no way that that was you would still be number one because from metric standpoint the metrics are still LSU's favor over high speed but they took a high sticking jumped Ellis you last week even before Ohio state beat Michigan I took a Baylor team and dump them five spot in beating up on right ten fifteen I don't believe the committee is saying that are both cast in BC then is very important and so you talk going to have to make a big statement when they play organ to really take the cake because many times they Hey even the the Oklahoma when was I better win at the end we think you talk the better team sorry Joey Galloway with us on the shell pens performance line here I'm going to win go on the field as we can we know is rivalry week and Ohio state Michigan played a game that was lopsided yet again after Jim Harbaugh was sort of getting into it with the media here at where are we at with the state of Jim Harbaugh in this Michigan program is it fair to judge him as harshly as some want to on his record against his rival alone I think it's fair to judge him on his record and his record has been a good anybody the culture that Michigan or at Ohio state you will be judged on what you do in game against Michigan Ohio state did the bigger gains the the Michigan state and state that's just the way it goes now the interesting question at the end about the talent gap there is a clear talent gap but I also understand it closer about can't come out and say Hey there there's a big talent gap here he's trying to close that gap the charter proved get players in there and he also had to get his players to believe that they can win so you can't come out later the talent that anybody's watch this game past five years there is a clear talent gap it would take almost a a a collapse by Ohio state moved to Michigan in these past few years they just haven't done that so Joey Galloway with this miss can find himself in a tough spot right because obviously Jim Harbaugh has brought things back to the university that weren't there before he got there but V. Hartle and in many people's minds the only game that matters is Ohio state and he's gone were no Michigan coach has ever been allowed to go over four oh one five to start his career any other Michigan coach has come close to that has been fired well before they got to on five so one of the do I think it comes down to what what's important to you if your mission your guide to making a decision is it important to you that mission is now back on the national scene and back to eighteen they can get you nine ten one in a season even if they do lose to Ohio state are there still in that conversation they're still talked about as much as any team out there or are you in in the only team that if I hate we have to win the Lima Ohio state we have to win the big ten we have to compete for a national championship I would I would assume that that is the thinking of Michigan because of their program because of their history because of where they've been they've won national champions before thank you would think that they will be in the mindset of we want to compete for the big ten championship we want to get to the player who won have kept what it all and if you're in that mindset I can't imagine how long you stay down this path now I'm not saying that I believe are about to be fired after this season but I do believe they will take a long hard look at what their options are because again they're they're not close right now to were high status Joey Galloway joining us enjoy Alabama loses the iron bowl they're out of the playoffs for the first time we know they'll lose their share of players to the draft including a two of the quarterback as well and so mac Jones can come back to his brother was a a freshman there as well how do you see this team coming back I've always said nobody paid any three better than Alabama it makes me angry for a season and I am looking forward to seeing what they do that the the now not just to a you wonder what's going to happen your magic they're gonna lose a couple the receivers you know in in that group of men that that might be the best able receivers we see at one school with with when you add in I went to with healthy it is almost disappointing to think that I think with that much talent dealt with the injury you've dealt with situations that won't allow them to get in because they may have been monumental they think about the amount of players that would have been in this year's playoffs if you throw Alabama and that makes I think that was the fun part of looking at it and so you look at fifteen now and you know they recruit well they're gonna lose two or loosen the from the receivers there of course moved to be effective that one thing we do know about Alabama by makes even he's been able to reload a year after year after year as well as anybody has ever done it and so it usually fun to watch how Alabama comes back after having a disappointing season they will be they will be good next year it'll be interesting to see how

NFL's Braylon Edwards tells all in new book

"Our next guest had a legendary career at Michigan he was outstanding receiver in the NFL he is the author of a new book in the title really does say it all doing it my way my outspoken life as a Michigan Wolverines NFL receiver and beyond it's a pleasure to welcome to this sporting life the one and only Braylon Edwards Braylon thank you for joining us. the long time it's been a long time since we spoke at an end and as you were dressed in the book Braylon when people think about you they don't just think about your talents as a receiver they don't think about the big games that AC title games or the rose bowls they think about the controversies what you you delve into them in this book why did you want to you know dredge all that stuff up. a lot of times people get attention as they tell their story or what exactly happened so one thing come out is more so with the perception is that the time and then it becomes a story and in all the years you know and that's what it is written in stone so it was a good time for me to be able to tell all the stories and under every story from do you eyes two incidents outside my clothes will arise and people works better there were other things at at playing in those situations but I just sold you know not saying anything but the media dictate that the media the media personnel for markings dictate a on one matter and I got quiet never said anything and those things never get a chance to you know get toggle plus a lot of good things happen to you know there's a lot of philanthropic endeavors that happened a lot happier off the field have a great there are a lot of other things to talk about you know depression bullying when I was a kid so it's a heck of a store and has a lot of things that we can put out there in the book speaking with Braylon Edwards the former Pro Bowl receiver the former Michigan Wolverines star he was the third overall pick in the two thousand five NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns it only your third season in the league Braylon you at twelve hundred eighty nine receiving yards right AT receptions are your pro bowler you had some other good years notably with the jets in twenty ten almost a thousand yards receiving but you're clear didn't go the way you hoped it would go eight and and although he lasted much longer than most last in the NFL you you you were someone who is thought of as a hall of fame talent. if their injuries there are other things that went on what was it like just being caught up in that maelstrom and and not being able to get every ounce of your talents to use every ounce the weight that you would have wished our records right you know a lot of times he says spray Kato where you go online for you were you drafted what can you play for I was not at the Cleveland Browns and United play with injuries and uncertainties and continue with. in your world organizational changes office according to head coach ownership ID with kids go to New York Jets have young quarterback was did it for us but there wasn't a lot of. Aaron it outside there were you going to have success then I had a knee injury San Fran I rushed back to the field to get out there because your Harbaugh's how could a person on and it was the first time I hadn't been in a stable situation you know I got that right is a one year deal there was no stability there was no next year there was no gas I was going to start so when I got hurt when I was starting to try to come back try to rise back needed never was the same a play for Seattle I still feel the nails in quarters on sat I'm way way too young at their target core those that travel more time with jet and two thousand thirteen and Lincoln totally with Michael in the preseason against the Jaguars. it is it was times that I mean I I I will smite curricula definitely connect them when I was a kid the one of those guys. got drafted in the end of the first round to the coat so to the you know to a team that won the cowboys Burgoon a play yard can do more to maybe just have a consistent office right you know it is clear that I had seventeen quarterbacks and and for that reason I remember I remember all those guys no no I mean it's hard to remember all of them but I remember that there were a lot of them yeah I mean it was the with Braylon Edwards and his new book is doing it my way my it's spoken life is a Michigan Wolverine NFL receiver and beyond really before we let you go it's great catching up after all these years but you've been out in the news a little bit recently you're talking about your alma mater talk about your former coach Jim Harbaugh and and the words you've used I think are light years behind that team in Columbus Ohio a lot Ohio state and it's it's everyone's entitled to their opinion and I would never discourage anyone from sharing their opinions especially someone with the standing that you have what makes you say that the other than the fact that Michigan's lost fourteen out of fifteen to Ohio state well for them and that's a great start but United in the in the space of the conversation that was more so long live. as they have the idea of a state trooper who over the last year he started without one which says look from trestle so first we'll start a minor. by my Dennis they're gonna have a quarterback that can run quarterbacks that can pass the ball sort thank you have athletes at the wide receiver position they could take the ball and taunted him call back and have a great run again and I have great uses if you look at the changes over the last eighteen years they all have the same I didn't you know how they're able to have success in order to be a national championship game you have to have the formula is you need a defense that can play and win games defense bill instead but you have to have a quarterback yeah arguably in highland conversation that definitely should be first team all conference and you have to have a running back that is potentially a second round us or in the hive in conversation apply when you look at certain things all have stayed in one of when you watch them play you see a team that you know has the potential to be there at the end of the year we watch Oklahoma we watch the cleanse Alabama Georgia where you are these things you see something bad okay this is this is even ten straight year with a Honda fit yet so you know that we watch miss again you have the same question each year by year who's going to be the quarterback who's going to run the ball on this game hasn't had that yeah all dirt like Lansing Michigan office is that lived in our rabbit I do not around and finished in two thousand twelve two thousand thirteen and before that you know who the other guy you know was listening at the wide receiver play make would like this guy's just it is with the the creme de la creme like he's the one I don't mean to talk about my is usually does our ideas right. nineteen ninety six so what's being said ideas on that that was going to take forty Janes national I mean by light years behind my house they get sick and they stay true lies we've been asking the same question of Michigan there's love the arms of our book let's go the radio because the rates right every year who's the quarterback the quarterback gonna be who's going to be an issue I can always between three guys it's never a guy would never moving the next season of their lives guys come back we're gonna build around him even this year's like say that is in that wires yeah this is what I said okay last year but even if your life is your McAfee gonna be you guys Joe Miller even twenty years ago when one of those guys was named Tom Brady couldn't get the job exactly or did you incident Brady is it US got left cooking the bouldering so it's always a question about the way I received right I have you so those are questions at the major institutions that away those are not the question so I did and that's what I mean by light years I know people eight years I would say in the way. that's what I mean the identity has not been there it's it's tough love for Braylon Edwards for his beloved Wolverines his new book is doing it my way my outspoken life and it is still outspokenness Michigan Wolverine NFL receiver and beyond Braylon as I said it's a pleasure catching up with you and congratulations with the book and a good luck with us on as many as possible so I like to tell the others to come on the show. thank you maybe I will we'll catch up with the recap in a round thanksgiving before those they I would love to do

Pilots’ Strike Prompts British Airways to Cancel 1,700 Flights

"British Airways has cancelled nearly one hundred hundred percent of its flights for September ninth and tenth amid a dispute with a British Airlines Pilots Association. That's be bapu which scheduled a strike for early this week. announced on August twenty third that its pilots would be striking in September following a pay dispute with the airline which they claimed would not accept any of a number number of solutions that would have avoided this strike. What isn't gonNA average pilot makes who's flying across cross the Atlanta against completely guessing you think to fifty I that sounds somewhere? I don't know Yeah Bach Seventy Five. I was GONNA Guess West because I've heard I have a a friend not that level but like he he says the the the wages have come down salaries so I'll go less but hopefully we'll well the pilot's Union they represent over ten thousand UK pilots across more than twenty companies had accused the airline of profiting at the cost of pilots sacrifice edge sacrifices services that include pay cuts and reduced leave and closing the final salary pension scheme quote unquote meanwhile the cost of these cancelled services is about fifty million per day yeah. It's Kinda tough if you need pilots and they go on strike like you can if you work at tuna canning factory or something then you working out next man then but yet the seven seven seven that's seven eight seven hundred in fact there was a post that said if your flight is cancelled. Jim Harbaugh on Urban Meyer: 'Controversy Follows Everywhere He's Been'

"He and Jim horrible had some interesting takes on his old is old master I mean his old urban Meyer urban Meyer has dominated this robbery not just in the Jim Harbaugh era going back before Jim Harbaugh urban culture house state for seven years you want every single one of his match up against high against the Michigan including last year's domination was sixty two to thirty nine a blow out over the Michigan Wolverines last season at the horseshoe and Jim Harbaugh ways on Tim telecom these podcast was ask about urban Meyer who's no longer on the sideline he's in the booth for fox but this is what Jim Harbaugh had to say you know what I don't know if I disagree with us know whether he should have said it okay let's hear it or you can be judged on his record and what your record is overall what your record is within your conference and what your record is head to head matchups with with the other teams that you play right now how soon is the only team that has a has a better record than us has a better conference record in us and has the better head to head match up with this into your action when urban Meyer retired yeah he's really matters had a winning record the really the normal record everywhere is bent on also controversy follows in the words all right so that is that's a T. K. show on the athletic podcast networks in Carroll County bay area obviously those horrible from his nine or days and there is a really good reporter was with the mercury news for years I I listen I want a great concession by horrible he's got a winning record he Jacko by the way you know speak you said he beat him four times three of the four double digits right so they pretty much smoking over including last year but it the question is at what the question but the point is Jim Harbaugh's not wrong he's not he's just stating facts controversy has followed urban Meyer wherever he has been in its I don't know if it's if it's relevant because we all know that these things happen and go warning college football so is it worth the coach said in it especially if you might get helped up more these things somewhere down the line saying Jim Harbaugh's done anything but the fact that he's been dominated by urban Meyer it feels like sour grapes feels like we just but I can't beat him so I got a taste of the bad about it you should take the high road but herb is not there anymore herb is not on the sideline at Ohio state it's Ryan day now who hasn't had to replace a quarterback in Blaine Haskins who was phenomenal a for the Buckeyes last you were fifty touchdowns and obviously a first round draft pick in Justin field who came in from Georgia transfer market he's got to take over so it's like he's throwing gas on the fire that November thirtieth matchup between Michigan at the big house this year in Michigan house day it'll be better when it will be lively but he's supposed to win now yeah because of the transition that's going on it I'll state and the fact that he's going to do is fifty year he's got his quarterback for the second year in a row this last year we got she batters it is finally got his quarterback Jim Harbaugh is gonna find a way to you know take them to the college football playoff because all we needed was his quarterback great I didn't happen last year and you get a second year with the same guy it better happen this year he's not a **** I'm not buying the viral he's not on the hot seat that's going to happen but whether or not he's getting the job done at the level in which we thought you might that is obviously open for debate is all real or is it all one needs about championships allegedly at Michigan that they don't exactly it's about beating Ohio state they don't do that to me what is it really about look they haven't won a title since ninety seven missing and I get to think about where they were before Jim Harbaugh came there I wasn't good Brady Hoke rich rod behind and you weren't even like paying attention to me war because this Michigan yeah I work say and this team has a chance to win a national title was in the conversation any surprises in your one yes with ten ten to three ten and three is one ten times three out of the four years that he's been there a year two was eight five you lost a lot of guys on the on defense the NFL going to try to to be fair right yeah not to look I I urban Meyer never has those excuses I dictated doesn't have those issues that's because urban Meyer has controversy following him

The weird twist in the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry

"He is Marty Smith who spent most of the year in Alabama or so it seems but today he is in Columbus Ohio getting ready for the big game up there mardi thanks for. Joining us set the scene for us in Ohio. We know Apollo good evening. Yeah. You're right. I think I had five Alabama games this year. Maybe six I don't know most of them. But I'm up in Columbus right now. It's getting cold outside. It's going to be nasty and rainy tomorrow, and we're in the lobby here at the Woody Hayes athletic center, and they are getting ready, man. It's it's fun to talk to the coaches and the players about this rivalry, you know, growing up in the south as I did. And you know, you've lived there your whole life as well. We look at at the iron bowl, which you guys are at and we all know about Janki Red Sox and all of those great rivalries. But this one's extremely special. It's kind of boring off of respectful hate for one another. They don't hate the man, but they hate the establishment on the other side of the football. And of course, it was all born in a fight over Toledo all those years ago. So when you're fighting over Toledo brother, it makes for a hell of a good rivalry. I was reading about that today coming over here. Toledo for those who don't know is fairly close to the Michigan line. It's also where urban Meyer in Jim Harbaugh were both born same hospital about seven months apart. And and it's pretty amazing Marty how a city in Ohio could be is amazing right in the middle of it. All. Is what blows my mind is what you just said. It's funny. I wrote an essay kind of really chronicling the hatred between the schools and the foundation of the rivalry and the evolution of the rivalry with both sham Boeckler and Woody Hayes in the ten year war and then the two thousand six game the game of the century on and on. And there's so many indelible moments any whether it's Desmond our boy flashing the flesh and the I'm actually staying in the Ohio State lobby right now. Maybe I shouldn't be mentioning those things or Charles Woodson running punts back and all those amazing moments, and I was floored when I learned that urban and horrible we're both from Toledo born into Lido. And then I was even further shocked by the fact that it was the same

Michigan Jim Harbaugh On beating Ohio State

"At Ohio State buckeyes, maybe with some breaks have a shot at the playoff. But michigan. They know if they went out they are in. But for Jim Harbaugh that means doing something he hasn't done yet as Michigan head coach. And that's beating Ohio State. Here's the coach. Yeah. We're we're we're happy to be position. And will. Do what we do. And that's get ready for it and expect our team will be really really fired up to play. And do what they do what they have been doing every week of the season, which is playing as hard as it can as fast as they can play as long as they can play hard playing their best plan for Michigan. That's what this team team is has been doing.
