"Good afternoon. White Sox weekly on the air. We'll have carbon Harry the be coming up at five o'clock with you till seven up. You're having a great Saturday afternoon. My name is Mark Harmon Curtis. Coke is our new producer on white socks week Lee Curtis. Welcome to the program. You're not Dan long. We miss Dan long. And we love you all the same time. It's possible. It is possible. Thanks for having me. Thanks for letting me. Join the group is eating of cookie. But still ready to talk to me carnage. Great to see you. I'm you know, we both prepare our show in different ways. And it is great to be here on the air with you on national peach today and Machado wants three hundred million dollars Carmi. No, you've got the inside information. What do you think that's gonna give him three hundred mil? Well, the news today is very unsettling. There's a word the New York Yankees apparently are in the mix Jim Duquette. It's been around baseball forever now with MLB network radio and does a show on Sirius XM. He is reporting that the New York Yankees are making an offer to Machado somewhere in the seven to eight year range around two hundred and twenty million. He thinks to catch thinks that the Yankees can offer a little bit less because Machado has always wanted to play there which has been the rumor and that Machado's wife would love to be in New York as well. So nothing is done until things are done in this world. Everybody knows that. But this is not the news that you really wanted as far as Manny Machado is concerned two hundred twenty million dollars in New York is not as cool as one hundred and seventy five million dollars in Chicago. Well in the SOX offer has been reported from anywhere from one seventy five to two ten and no one's been in the room. And that we really don't know. I don't know exactly what. The White Sox offers been. So I've seen one seventy five up to two ten and the SOX could go up further than that. That if they wanted to obviously, Jerry Reinsdorf has said that he doesn't want to get in a bidding war, which to me makes sense. Manny Machado wants to be a New York Yankee, let him go to New York and New York Yankee if he wants to come to Chicago and be Whiteside. The offers been on the table. Clearly, he's been waiting for something. And maybe it's this Yankees offer. Who knows well Harper and Machado, even though the free agency is going extremely slow this year. I it's it's I can't remember a season. It's been like this. They both seem to want the other guy to move. I, you know. And it's kind of like, you know, most cops will tell you whoever in most negotiators will tell you. Whoever moves first loses. Yeah. Jeff passan who does a great job covering the game. He was with forever. And now he's with ESPN, and you he's he's writing. You know, he wrote it on this the ninety seventh day of free agency. Well, now, we're at the ninety ninth day of free agency, February the night, vigils and catchers are reporting. In two days. The socks are going to be there on Tuesday about it. So, you know, this is a huge blight for baseball of light that a good word does gray worth good word right there planes. Did you have like bright as a kid? I did it light bright as a kid. It was so much fun. Light Brown was a solid game dark. It's for people. Don't know light bread you'd stick these little like pegs pegs that would eliminate that would eliminate into the board. Curtis familiar with a light bright? I am actually when I was a kid. They still had that going around. It wasn't as popular. But I remember them being different colors. You could right. And they would have they would have like designs and stuff. So you know, you could get like SOX logo design or you could get like, a sunshine, or whatever hair hair, your son. Reggie is here today. He has not perked up his head on light bright. So I'm assuming that you never know. Now, he's giving me the thumbs up. So maybe he has played some light bright in his life registered had some light bright. He just prefers anything that's on the screen. Yeah. Two games that we had one you're growing up. Now, that's the standard child nowadays in with me that he has played with light Brown. Okay. Very cool. Very cool. I love you bring bringing your son to the show. Harry WGN's about family. It is it won't be long. You know, you're engaged. You're you're getting married soon that go crazy, and it won't be long until you're bringing in your kid. Well, we will get to that uncovered Harry today that I have gone venue shopping. Yes. And Checky cheese or is it Michaels in Highland Park. Working on Chucky cheese were thinking about Curtis has Baskin Robbins in the pool. I like great America's event you. Why can't they? America. Can't they hate America? You get rid of the Batman, right? Well, why can't you get married on the underneath the Batman ri-? I will you this. Once you get married. Absolutely. Keep your arms and legs inside the ride at all time. Thank you. Thank you very much that. That's that's very good advice. Down Cooper White Sox pitching coach who is going to be on the show today at four thirty five. So we can he's got some. He's got some loaded back in bullpen guys this year. He's gotta be smiling. Yeah. And I wanna ask him at least to start out about Lucas g Alito who. Spoke at socks FAZ was talking to Chuck are fine over at NBC sports. Chicago does a great job great job. And you know, he just talked about riding the roller coaster, and he's looking for more consistency. And you know, you had a major league high area last year six point one three you don't wanna do that again. But I thought that despite that era Lucas overall had a pretty good season last year. I know some people say. I like I like cheerleader when he's got that Bugs Bunny curveball working. He's pretty good. Yeah. And talents early there. So I'm just curious what coop will say as far as how to get him off to phenomenal start. Apparently, you're I'm losing large quantities of of of the long stranding black hair under the girlfriend was just sitting there, or a pack. And I think this this this I think I'm picking up Amy good right now, this could be an Amy Guth hair. These things happen this. This is live radio. I think it could be a weekly segment. Yeah. Well, I've, hey, I got I got a nice cut here. Harry notice something nice here straight away car didn't say a word to me. I it was because the show had already started. I I walked by a bit. I was booking a guess. Who would you book? I booked the top pizza chef in New York. One of the top pizza chefs in New York and wanted to tap pizza. Chefs Chicago, we were going to have the New York cop versus the Chicago cop six zero five it is national pizza day. Yes, it is. And all day long. We encourage you to let us know call us or text us, no matter what we're discussing text. What is your favorite pizza in Chicago? This will work better on sex police three one two nine eight one seventy two hundred you can call as well. But we I'd love to we would love to see your favorite pizza the toppings will do. Where do you go? We'll do an where do you go? We'll do a sort of an informal tally pull the Curtis was going to compile, and we'll announce our winners towards the end of the show today as to who got the number one as far as location, and then the actual the actual pizza itself. Right. But I mean, it might just be that one ill a pizza place that we don't know gets one mention, and it sends us or send other listeners there. You know, if you're if you give us a Warrenville pizza place, I would think only people in Warrenville, and that general Warrenville area would appreciate that place. Maybe they don't know about it. So we're going to turn people on we want to turn the L Europeana into other people's pizza. I'll on that note. I'll give a shout out to PRL's pizza located in beautiful revenue where I did work as a delivery driver back in the day. I would like to personally apologize to all the people that I accidentally overcharged for their pizzas. When I was very young now and was making terrible decisions. And I still feel bad about this today. Did you ever like borrow a sausage from the pie? And then re reclosed the box before he delivered it. You know that story. Don't you? Yeah. I took a square from from a thin pizza. Sausage wouldn't be missed. Right. You take a mushroom? That's not going to be missed you take a square. Your nailed slice of pizza the square slice. I took a square like right in the middle. I was hungry. I was driving there. And I figured that. You know, maybe they would think that the kid got to the pizza. I ate the square and mom won't get confused. But of course, that did not work out that way, and they called up beautiful Piero's pizza and set your delivery driver, eight a square of our pizza and the guy was like not nobody would ever do that may be that dumb. Nobody would ever be inconsiderate slash stupid. And I walked in. He's like did you eat a piece of the piece of I know why didn't eat a piece in the pizza. I don't know what these people are talking like exactly who would ever do that. So I apologize to perils. And yeah, I feel bad about that. That was that was a poor choice. Listening right now. I guess those people they wanna let's their pizza. They didn't have a square to spare. Yeah. I mean, come on the delivery. I have a square I would have been, you know, maybe I should have asked first Peres speaking, speaking of pizza, you know, experienced a game this season from the goose island..

"Foggin meanwhile forty five voicemail by the way yeah there's a lot there you're wrong i mean your team is not going to be that great this year but i do agree with some of the points that he made you know like which was what we talked about when we broke down the blue jays earlier in the show about how aaron sanchez was my pick for for most interesting storyline i think he could have huge year this year but jay hap i mean he came back down to earth and stroman stroman said that the blue jays we're going to have the best rotation at the start of like last year and then they were like fifteenth in like team i it's yeah i mean obviously health is a big thing estrada i mean that guy like you said they're definitely stretches where he can be great but they're never full season stretches i mean just because there's no anxiety about being traded doesn't mean he's going to turn into the stud pitcher so yeah i don't know that doesn't just go away like we've got another year right he could very well be kicked around those same conversations so yeah like i would agree i'm not gonna shit on the bluejays here i'm not going to say that they're gonna finish in last place i don't have them pegged for last place at all i usually think that they could finish right behind the red sox and the yankees in the american league east but they're kinda just trapped in in baseball purgatory where they're not exactly contending but they're not exactly selling off pieces yet they're not rebuilding at this point time best rotation baseball best change up his change stratas change up the best pitcher in baseball that guy was not holding takes.

"What took away from it was that you feel that hubs is a is a complete asshole the outlook on the team and i'll just agree with you hubs you're an asshole correct outlook on your team yeah i'm with jeered all right marks on rotation there's no question about that lineup but when they get to the postseason if they do i it's exactly boiling down to the arms they run out there so yeah that's all i got i mean listen the chances for any of these teams to be the world series winner is it's pretty low i mean that's just how baseball works so it's good to have a healthy dose of pessimism going into any season next i'm a fan so this one's gonna be fairly obvious but for starters one of the greatest five amherst in the history of baseball number five pitcher we tyler out with outside of coors last year was almost unhittable then we go with the offense of end we have chris ryan anthony rizzo a wilson contributors who's dating power like fucking crazy gonna be the mvp conversation here we have spot now he's a ceiling basis he's gonna be the forty forty club and then you go to the third side on defense we have an abundance of outfielders tasted hayward in right buck in alba more and center than in west we've got ian happy house over it doesn't matter the times side and on the infield you know what's going on up the mid with addie havi nothing's getting by those two hobbies one of the most exciting people in baseball it's just everything everything's factoring into cubs world series victory i mean in fairness he touched on a lot of things we touched on yes he did.

"Does that it that's it baby those are all all thirty teams oh wow all right so if you are in the grounds crew you cannot complain that we have never talked about your team because we went down the list every division all thirty teams and we hit on all of them black they're opening day there are some news notes that we wanna hit before we get into your voicemails a tour to question you have voicemails fucking voicemail they responded to the call we've got some wire your teams will or will not definitely make the world series okay i like that a lot the angels we have shohei ohtani we talked about him a little bit earlier in the show when discussing alex cobb and how the market for alex cobb is essentially just teams that miss out on shohei ohtani which is why was surprised that cobb went to the orioles shohei otani has not done very well this spring dallas braid and i so there's there's there's checks balances here the velocity impressive i i'm not a baseball scout i'm not also out spring training so i'm not seeing this with the naked eye baseball scouts have not been impressed with shohei ohtani they've been saying that he's they're not impressed with his bat they're saying that he's basically a high school hitter who's never seen anything close to a major curve ball before so the offensive part of his game is in question that's not the reason why the angel signed him they signed him to be a stud pitcher and if he's going to be a stud pitcher he's going to need to figure some shit out because he's getting show lacked in spring training action so if i'm the angels am i considering moving shohei ohtani down to triple a to start the season or you looking at this as sort of a learning curve and he's just got a cut his teeth at the major league level this all comes down to one question and one answer or you legitimately giving him an option and a shot and.

"Over his final eighty six two thirds after everyone had dropped him and fantasy already he had a two point seven zero yara at opponents were limited to a six eighty three oh ps so clearly again as we've said for like three years in a row the talent is there with kevin godman they desperately need a number one how long have we talked about the orioles needing a true frontline starting pitcher alex cobb not that guy even if he makes them better maybe this is the year guzman becomes that guy okay we move right along to the toronto blue jays another team that as it i would say is fair to say that they're in a similar similar physician to the baltimore orioles i better but i yeah i would agree that they're better but also in a position where they're not exactly rebuilding in not exactly contending i i agree i will say the one thing about the blue jays that separates them from the orioles for me is that you can see the promise coming like they have young players on the roster that are probably gonna stick around pass the donald tara if they part ways with him stroman aaron sanchez people like that but then you also have led career junior boba shati's coming to the top twenty prospects and pace ball so i get your point i see a little bit more optimism here but that's fair and a reason for that optimism or one of the reasons rather aaron sanchez you mentioned him twenty sixteen led the league in winning percentage led the league in era led the league in fewest home runs allowed per nine innings was a seventh place finisher for the cy young award was just short of two hundred innings that year made thirty starts and i think i think they demoted him to either aaa or the bullpen i think they moved him to triple a at one point yeah to limit his innings so that might have cost young award because he was definitely on a cy young pace in two thousand sixteen which by the way was his age twenty three season last year was limited to just eight starts.

"Walkie bruins that's a great segue that's a great segue to talk about my milwaukee brewers so i was hoping that alex cobb was going to land in the motherland of baseball aka milwaukee he didn't so i are the milwaukee brewers going to regret not jumping in on an alex cobb a jake arrieta a lance lynn are you confident in their rotation to be serviceable enough to get back to sniffing wildcard spot this year it's it's you know and i was in their camp and i really like like their team overall i don't know if they're starting rotation i like addition of seen wade miley having a great spring believer that's that wade miley that i just mentioned struggled in baltimore is pitching well figured out some things mechanically loved their bullpen offensively there's a lot of things to lake with yellow tim kaine addition you know the additions they're being canadian together yeah can they hold it together 'til nelson comes back i think they can that that to me is going to be the key and then what are you gonna have when he comes back that's that's a big question mark obviously but i think that they can't i think that you know they're one of the teams that i listed you know for the for the nfl wildcard i still have to figure out who i'm going to pick there but they're they're certainly in that mix for the for the first or second walker so every spring usually write a call them about spring training story lines and it's always interesting to look back on at the end of the year because so many of those story lines are just so relevant not important by the end of the year what's the biggest story line for any team coming into this season that no one is going to care about by the end of the season woo that's a good one storyline in one's gonna care about you know.

"Right now for starting pitchers and and i said this even on my show today so area better pitcher got three years you've got a lot more money but he got three years you know lance lynn about the same type of pitcher they're different but they're similar in terms of where they fit in the rotation leaned got accept a one year deal if you're the orioles orioles to me it's it's somewhere in that range now you have to overpay to convince somebody to pitch in the american league east and in camden yards i get that but i thought it might have been a three year deal more than four but in the end hey i i was always about liking players in acquiring them so if you had to pay a little bit more in essence they're all over pace if you got the guy so they overpaid by here you know what they still have alex cobb in the rotation that's that's true so we already talked about any and i think he is the answer to this question so you can't say shohei otani who do you think is the greatest value signing on the free agent market this past offseason oh boy the greatest the greatest you know it's interesting there's a couple of those for me but i i wanna say i really feel like overall that that jake arrieta it was even though it was twenty five mil i thought he was going to get seven years six years maybe six years on the free agent market so to get him for three i thought that was a you know a a good signing for for the phillies overall that one to me probably stood out more than the more than the others the the other kind of the the the i thought some of these guys that ended up getting deals you know like yonder alonzo should've gotten more logan morrison they call him the second tier they'd saying that but they're they're they're not they weren't the top of the offense of charts but for them to get one year deal for for you know for the seasons that they both had i thought those were both under the radar guys i like i like romo's at different cat.

"Isn't becoming more repeatable in his delivery those are the things that are going to help mir garrett sort of establish himself as a mainstay in this rotation there's a lot of upside there's a lot to like about him tremendous athlete so i would look for amir garrett to take strides make strides and hopefully entrench himself in this rotation so let me build off of that for a second amir garrett allowed twenty three home runs last year in seventy and twothirds innings pitched okay i don't need to explain to you that that is bad however let me put it in historical context okay you can go on baseball reference and you can look at the most home runs allowed in fewer than seventy five innings pitched in a single season in major league baseball history okay the first two names are amir garrett in twenty seventeen twenty three home runs and his teammate bronson arroyo will allow twenty three home runs in seventy one inning so one third of an inning more on the same season on the same team okay the previous record was glendon rush back in two thousand six when he allowed twenty one homers in sixty six and a third innings for the cubbies so i i'm with you i followed amir garrett season far more closely than i should have last year and it was amazing the night and day i'm interested to see that as well i did say i was going to talk about joey votto and that's the truth.

"Run over in japan way to dig deep thank you for that preparation that's that's good ship baby scraping a friend of the program tommy fam oh yeah yeah so i don't think he's under the radar anymore now that people have had a whole off season to sit on what he did but we're talking about a guy who slashed three oh six four eleven five twenty good for nine thirty one six wins above replacement perks fucking great per bb ref and that was only in five hundred thirty plate appearances he's healthy right so that's the thing right is he played a hundred and twenty eight games last year he has struggled to stay on the field due to nagging health issues and he's entering his age thirty season i'm very interested to see i think the talent is there i think it's real and i'm hopeful that he's going to stay on the field because ozone may be the biggest name but tommy fan based on what he did last year is the best player in that outfield and i'm i'm hopeful that he can stick it because he's also fun it's a good personality yes sure and next coming in third on our list here for the national league central division is your soon to be world series champion milwaukee brewers where do we even start with this team is really the question the story line for the milwaukee brewers is if you wanna storyline where the fuck do you start dallas i'm going to start right over here in left field you got christian yelich brand new addition to the milwaukee brewers you move over to centerfield lorenzo cain brand new center fielder domingo santana in right field hitting thirty bombs last year no one's talking about him i thought he was gonna lose his spot i thought he was going to be a trade candidate i was like what the fuck are we going to do with santana out there where's ryan brand gonna go ryan braun is basically going to be platooning at first base with.

"You had the padres big swing and a miss on otani could cobb go to the padres the brewers needed a starting pitcher in the teams that miss own jake arrieta same deal so yeah i did not see the orioles coming into this equation but i guess it makes more sense that it is a four year deal versus it would be a lot more confusing if it was a one year deal because they're not going to contend next year what the fuck are we doing what life or one year you're seriously you're renting alex cobb for what also i would be wildly hypocritical if i did not say something nice about the orioles before we wrap this up i am very critical of them generally because they don't spend any money and they don't pick up the wreck stater and their owner sucks and all of that fun stuff but given this off season i will applaud oh the baltimore orioles for choosing to spend money that they had to marginally upgrade their club even if there's some question about how he fits long term short term or what their direction is too many teams like the rays who are now going with a four man rotation in partner save money let alex cobb hang out there in the wind and the orioles scoop them up i am i love the move by the orioles it makes them a better team how much better we'll see but yeah well done well done way to spend some money and treat your baseball club like a fucking team proposh tag revenue sharing grading hate the raise for him stott com a one stop shop for hair loss skin care sexual wellness and it's four men i know we're supposed to be all inclusive these days but this is for men right.

"Hall of famer lou whitaker joe morgan dustin pedroia rod karoo ryan sandberg at gardo alfonzo paul molitor so i mean it's really yeah it's not a terrible and the nice thing is i mean you think about thirty million dollars a year thirty one million dollars a year whatever it ends up being at the tail end and you're like oh he's inevitably going to be overpaid i don't even know if that's true without too because this only takes him through what his age thirty five season bore thirty four season yeah so he'll be in his decline but he starting from such an amazingly high point he was eight and a half wins this past year jose altuve at age thirty four is hitting to ninety and accumulating one hundred and eighty s yeah it's easy to see age thirty four l to aba three to four wind player at which point thirty million dollars really is not a disaster be slightly overpaid but that's three to four win players borderline allstar yeah you'll you'll take that i mean it sucks you will be any taller at age thirty four season but that doesn't really fucking matter none of us telling to fuck off out to tell them to maybe go get paid i also love that the astros are reinvesting some really skin some skinflint years to get and so this right here this should be look if we're going to follow the model we gotta follow it all the way through all right and hopefully what that means is on the other side of teams tanking and shitting on themselves on purpose for an entire year hopefully you do get something out of that because hopefully you'll follow the model to the t that the astros have started to lay out which says once we get to the promised land or get close to where we're trying to be and we have success and we have identified guys who have helped us get there we're going to start locking them the fuck up we're going to start locking them down so hopefully that continues to trend in that direction just moments ago noted dickhead john hayman tweets alex cobb has passed his physical oh shit and he is in orioles so orioles physically pass to by the way before we move on from hayman i tweeted something about him yesterday and i think i got.
