Family and friends saying Tom after college, now the NFL is not for you. And you might recall or did you? Back in the 2000 NFL Draft, he was the 199th overall pick. Think of the names that were ahead of him at that time. Now to the life threatening cold sweeping through the northern half of our country. 9 states across the northeast are on alert for bitter cold temperatures. ABC's Morgan Norwood has more. A dangerous and likely record breaking freeze invading the northeast, the cold moving in this morning, bringing feel like temperatures down to -21° in Maine, and -7, and buffalo, New York. In Massachusetts, Boston declaring a cold emergency. Schools are closed and warming centers are open. I got my coat on, and then my gloves are in my bag, and I have my hat and I just bundle up as much as possible. New Hampshire's governor warning residents to take this cold seriously. At negative 30°, hypothermia can set in in just ten minutes. And we know it's going to be even colder than that across the entire state. Doctors, urging people to look out for the most vulnerable. Frostbite, when the temperature gets as low as we're expecting this evening can develop in approximately ten minutes, sometimes less. And again, especially at the extremes of age that's where it can develop much more quickly than our patients often expect. A predator who uses dating apps to connect with vulnerable women, a manhunt is underway after his latest victim was found tortured and beaten in her home in Grants Pass Oregon. ABC's Alex stone is on the northwest news line and Alex, this was just a brutal attack last week. It really was. And then the police chief him Grants Pass saying that it was like something he had never seen. And this is a big man hunt that's underway right now. The guy's name Benjamin foster 36 years old wanted for kidnapping, torturing the woman. Police say it was not random that he had befriended her. He tied her up, held her, beat her until she was unconscious and when a friend found her and called police, she was very nearly dead. He was long gone. He's on the run now, and this guy came to a plea deal in Las Vegas in 2020 for a case brought in 2019, actually two cases, and they were pled together for holding a woman captive for two weeks, an ex-girlfriend at that time captive and torturing her during that time, pled that down, went free on time served to the police chief and grant's pass to Warren hensman. He's saying that this was a very bad scene and what they found there The scene was horrific. This is a bad man that needs to be captured. We don't believe he is randomly picking people. We believe he is formulating a relationship with people. And how is he doing that? He's doing it through dating apps, and they believe he is armed and dangerous that he has probably changed his appearance now, and it is actively on dating apps. One, two, find more victims potentially, but two to find women he can befriend will help him hide from the police that there is a woman who has arrested in recent days, whom they say he recruited to help ditch his car off a cliff that she was utilized as the tool to get rid of his car, so police wouldn't find him. She apparently didn't know the extent of what was going on May have had some involvement, but not known all of it, and the chief says it's absolutely critical that we get this man in custody at ASAP. Time is of the essence. And so the FBI, the Marshall service, they're on the search. They believe they say he could be anywhere in the country is he's on the run and they're trying to figure out what apps is he on, what profile picture is he using now? What info is he putting on there? And the chief said, everybody's looking. All hands on deck operation. We are laser focused. Again, they don't know how he's drawing women in, where his profiles are, who he is online, but they believe that's how he's doing it. This guy has such an extremely violent history. He was arrested as you mentioned, but he was let out serving less than two years in prison. Can you please help me understand that? Yeah, so as a plea deal, a lot of it were still trying to get our hands on all the documents and Vegas police they've been trying to pull them for us so that we can understand those cases a little bit more. But the case was brought in 2019 and went through the court system and he pled out and the judge agreed to a plea deal and then he was back out in public and the argument was made. Look, there was an ex-girlfriend and he served time and everybody, the prosecution agreed, the judge agreed. And then he was allowed to go. This is something that nationally, law enforcement gets angry about with cases like this where they find somebody for a violent crime. They lock them up. And then they make a plea deal and they get out. And this is a case where it appears he has reoffended and now they're having to look for him again. ABC's Alex stone on the northwest news line. Bill Schwartz on the efforts of local civic and business leaders to grow the universal sport in King County. Moving to the states 20 years ago, Vijay Benoit couldn't find many cricket matches to watch on television. Boy, has that changed. I think you're the second watched sport in the world. To a point that it has evolved so much that even local games are streamed live so that it can be watched. With our region's technology boom came employees like beno wall from India, Pakistan, oceana, and other countries where cricket is almost a religious experience. Gradually says Ben awal, the sport has caught on in the Seattle area. We have around 15 plus grounds that news improvement, but 15 drones, and we even have a youth leap, which is amazing to see a lot of kids adopting cricket playing cricket and taking it forward. King County council member, Peter von reichbauer was urged by some of the cricket community to come watch matches at marymoor park. It was an incredible to watch thunderbolts, succeed in bringing to people together that afternoon. Cricket's a bit like baseball, where a pitcher throws a ball to a batsman. "Finding avocados and limes and other things that we depend on that we import from Mexico through these ports of entry thanks to Greg Abbott They're back to the random 18 Wheeler inspections at some of these border crossings but did he start this action of inspecting every rig because of the Biden administration's plan to end title 42 deportations Yeah that's how he sold it at the beginning It doesn't really make much sense though because title 42 is crossings that involve asylum seekers So you're not talking about people who run across and try to hide And he says that the trucking measure was to catch those who were hiding in trucks and smugglers bringing them over So it doesn't all really connect His opponents say this is all a stunt He is running for governor that it's about making headlines and then declaring victory He says no this is about securing the border He's got the military down there the National Guard doing exercises right now for large crowds coming in He's doing the busing to Washington But on this one doesn't seem like at least based on the details of it it really matches up with title 42 but that's how he sold it in the beginning ABC's Alex stone thank you Alex You got it Thanks Alicia It is now time for a look at our stock charts dot com money update with Jim chesko Much like controversial candy corn in Halloween America's favorite Easter candy is apparently the cream filled egg which people also either love or hate at Instacart poll of 2000 people found that Cadbury's creme or creme eggs chocolate eggs filled with yellow and white filling are the most popular Easter confection in 24 states but they are also at the top of the least favorite Easter candy list Reese's Peanut Butter eggs from Hershey.

"When we would reach that point But we can have a mask mandate every flu season certainly reduce the number of flu cases So it's all about tradeoffs Like mass mandates work masks work at preventing transmission but also there's a concern about being heavy handed with these with these measures and mandates and trying to find that right balance Then at nearfall with us on northwest news radio reported for The Washington Post and you can find this report and all of his work online at Washington Post dot com Thank you That's Taylor van seiss Well there has been some worry about a sub variant of omicron and what it might mean for the future fight against coronavirus but researchers say for now it will not become a variant of concern We have ABC's Alex stone with the latest Omicron has split into several sub variants which is not surprising That's what viruses do The delta variant split into sub lineages but we continued to call them all Delta One of the omicron sub variants that got noticed a few weeks ago as one called BA two which appears to be slightly more transmissible than original omicron but not more deadly if it became different and bad enough It would get its own Greek alphabet name but now the World Health Organization says BA two appears similar enough to original omicron that it should remain known as omicron And like stone EBC news It is a 6 20 And that means it's time for our money report Here's Jim chesko As tensions in Ukraine intensify the nation declaring a state of emergency as Russia deployed more soldiers U.S. stocks tumbled once again the major index is all dropping at least 1.4% The Dow Jones Industrial slid 464 points the S&P 500 lost 79 and the check having NASDAQ composite plunged 344 or 2.6% The majority of stocks did lose ground today but shares of overstock dot com.

"Be hard to manage that debt Experts say there are different strategies for paying down your credit card balances One is called the debt avalanche method The idea is that you attack the card that has the highest interest rate on it pay minimums on all of your cards but put more towards this card with the highest interest rate because again it is your most expensive debt Another way is to use the debt snowball method With Dex Nobel it's all about baby steps starting with the smallest balance first Why Because in theory this should be something relatively easy to overcome You can also lower your payments by transferring your balances to a card that charges no interest for period of time Typically 12 to 15 months Now the caveat to this is that if you exceed 15 months and you have still a balance on that balance transfer card the interest rate will increase in some cases very high and you'll be back to where you were a little bit over a year ago And you're going to have to pay interest again Another option is to consider a personal loan with an interest rate lower than your cards but no matter how you tackle your credit card debt experts say you should always have a spending plan You can't get out of debt if you don't have a budget These two things go hand in hand So while you're thinking about reducing your debt load you also want to be mindful of how you're spending and making sure that that is aligned with your debt payoff goals Morgan Norwood ABC News It's 6 20 and our propellant insurance money update now Here's Jim chesko on a very wild day on Wall Street Quite a turnaround on Wall Street the index has been sharply lower almost the entire day The Dow Jones Industrial Average down more than a thousand points at the worst but roared back over the final hour of the session to end slightly higher The Dow finished with a gain of 99 points the S&P 500 drills 12 and then as that composite up 86 for the day Last Friday shares of Netflix tumbled nearly 22% amid disappointing guidance related to subscriber growth Well the streaming giant stock fell on another 2.6% today Jeffries and other investment firms have downgraded Netflix stock That's your money now Money news here at 20 and 50 past every hour coming up the money business of Hollywood and how do you replace.
