Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?

"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? Because a rid of staff they said eighty percent of the jobs are never posted so in other worth people get hired somebody a friend or family member is not what you know who you know There in live the roof. It does house so to finish John. Bruton's list of pipeline candidates being AMEE. Chris Rashard Robert Sala. He threw Jim Caldwell on his list. Is Jim Colwell was highly successful zestful. Jim called wheel lost his jaw. Going nine and seven in two years Matt Patricia has nine total win and he's still got a job now he goldwell still doesn't have another job he in four years. He went to the playoffs twice in the last year he went nine and seven and they said well you know we need to move in a different direction. uh-huh and the guy that's replaced has yet to win nine total games in two years. Do you still own a still on the clock. Okay Steve wilks got one shot in time. I'm one year in Arizona and he was gone. He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. And then there's Terrel Austin who's young stripes potential star coach and John Wootton into his list with Marvin Lewis who he thinks deserves a second shy right. Okay so Jerry. Jones did observe in qualified for the Rooney rule by bringing in. I Marvin Lewis. I think Jerry was shrewd operating waiting there. Because he didn't pick a young like like Chris Rashard type interview him because of Jerry had interviewed a young potential upcoming head. Black coach right. There's more pressure on Jerry. What was wrong with right? What's the problem exactly? He went to Marvin Lewis because he thinks Marvin Lewis is kind of old news right right. He got his longtime time shot in Cincinnati. Listen I still think Marvin did a good job job seriously. Yes okay he went. Oh and seven in the playoffs but still it was Andy Dalton Alton you re you with covering the NFL and you remember what Cincinnati before. Marlene got there was John. Carter number one overall. You Got David Cleland with the fourth. The fourth picket. You got big day to day and Wilkerson purse around the second pick in the draft year after year after a year people. Forget what I know. Marvin didn't win a playoff game. But they weren't even getting close to the playoffs for Marvin got there. No so I was disappointed in Jerry because you know my heart Hartz. I'd love to see Jerry Jones higher black head coach and I think I probably won't live long enough or Jerry will live long enough to know.

"Dan You talked about. How if it's only been a year? Sometimes a team will say. Let's give this guy a chance to turn things around. But it's been a couple of years in in Detroit with Matt Patricia. Why do you think that team came out before black Monday? And said we're going to hang onto him despite the fact that he's one In two seasons as many games as Jim Caldwell one in a single season before he was fired in Detroit I think the key is bob coined the GM right he comes from New England. He gets rid of Caldwell he goes and six out Patricia who knows from New England and he has sold ownership on. We can build this thing. Long-term here's what Martha firestone foreign said about her decision to bring back both former patriots quote. We expect to be a playoff contender. We expect to play meaningful games in December as she's referring bring to next season when she brings him back whatever he's told them about here are signs that it can work. They've bought whether they're correct or not. I think you know the former New England crew. That's running the Detroit. Lions has convinced Detroit Lions Ownership. Here's why this can work here. We're sorry it hasn't worked right away but two years isn't long enough. Give us another chance. And we'll see how much does the GM matter when we're looking at these teams in trying to evaluate whether or not they're going to move on from their head coach well matters a lot. It commensurate a couple of different ways one. How tied together are they did the GM hire the coach? And right now when when Quinn goes Detroit cold wells already there. You figure we'll cold well. It's not going to last because Quinn's GonNa WanNa bring in his own Guy Lo and behold that happen happen so if you are the guy that the GM hired that might help you if you are the guy that GM hired but it's going poorly and you're the the first guy the GM hired then. Recent history has shown us that you are the one in trouble and the GM is not there are coaches out. There that will tell you that. GM sits in the owner's box. He talks to the owner all game. He's the voice he hears while the coaches are down there on the field losing and it's pretty easy for the GM that kind of position himself. Like hey this isn't my fault. Let's make a change and try it another either way. I do think there are situations where you see more and more around the league where it goes in the other direction where. The coach kind of picks up in San Francisco. John Lynch came because Kyle Shanahan wanted wanted him in Buffalo Brandon. Beane came because Sean McDermott wanted him so I like that. Formula Teens are using now or they get the coach. I coach brings in mm somebody. He knows he can believe in. They understand the salary cap in the same way and can do all that administrative stuff together. I think that's that's a formula that looks like it's working in a few spots.

Packers get 10th win, defeat Redskins 20-15

"All right so if you were paying attention yesterday to the and a half of al you saw the Packers beat the Redskins at Lambeau field I I watch that game and it's interesting we are a ten win team Michael Spaulding but people still a little bit so tense little uneasy as we head into our next game of Chicago Bears next Sunday at Lambeau field yeah twenty to fifteen yesterday wasn't a pretty game but it was a win significance in the fact that it's a double digit win season it also gave metal for his tenth win as the head coach becoming the first Packers first year first time coach in Packers history with ten wins years before after the game ever apologize for winning we're always going to feel great about winning but you always want to go out there and put your best performance out there and you know I I think there is there's more out there for that for us log but when yeah it was not a pretty well as Aaron Rodgers sentimental for sentence and several others and then like and an endless string of sports writers in the sports commentators maybe we shouldn't complain they're the they're in the second seat position for the NFC that means that we get a first round bye in the whole state the second round playoff game those are all great things here's my thing now as a fan I'm happy they have ten wins but as a fan I'm also concerned about the state of the team when they struggle for example we've been complaining for the last fifteen weeks are solved I'm going back in the preseason lack of return game we complain about it finally yesterday we saw punt returner come on the field could actually gained positive yards for the first time this season and I into some other areas in the team that I concerned about which is their secondary some of the other things that they do Dave not getting down the offense of line that's legitimate concerns was so I appreciate the ten wins and I love the fact that meant the Florida as as first year as head coach is able to knock it out of the park already and I think he's got a chance to tie some some NFL records if you can when outs which is three games against the the bears Vikings alliance all NFC north teams if you can do that I think you'd have thirteen wins which I think would break the record or not tie it top tier yeah which I understood and all the other coaches that are on that list most of them are hall of fame coaches yes some of them some of them also looked into a situation Jim Caldwell his first year he had paid many one forty yeah there's always those situations but no I'm not complaining I just wanted to be as good as possible and for all those folks who who like to scold us fans for the in their mind not appreciating the ten win season I appreciate it I also don't want to be scolded about it because when they get to the playoffs are not good enough to beat some of the other teams I think you're gonna be the one that's crime at that time not predicting anything I think they have a great chance long have Aaron Rodgers you can win any game we saw that in twenty ten they ripped through the the road games all the way to the Superbowl and beat Pittsburgh in Dallas so I mean it's all

"You know, he's letting go out there and get his guys and I'm excited to see what this guy brings this offense is gonna looking exactly like New England's. I mean, make no mistake about it. But it's going to be interesting to see what you can get out of some. You know, we got some talented receivers down here. Kenny stills what you could do with, gene grant. I mean, he has he's guys our Wilson. I mean, they're these guys who in New England offense. I mean, that's gonna be fun to watch. I just hope it works out. And I hope you know, I think it's going to be a head coach in NFL sooner or later. So how many good seasons are gonna have in Miami? It's yet to be determined. But having Jim Caldwell kinda hang above him. You know, keep that offense attack. I mean, that's something that's going to work in our vantage longevity of the steam an interesting time to bring in Jim Caldwell in. I don't know that any of us expected. Brian floor has to bring in these types of guys with these resumes. At this point. So I've been pretty impressed with the collection of coaches at he's he's gotten so far, but Jim Caldwell in his work with quarterbacks. I think that's his MO in the National Football League. An interesting time to bring Jim Caldwell n when supposedly waiting a year to go get our quarterback in twenty twenty. But nonetheless, it's not just about Chatto shea. It's going to be Chatto shea and Jim Caldwell working in tandem making sure that we're getting all of our installs getting the core principles and place getting all the Terminator terminology getting everybody on the same page and going from there. I think what Brian floors is doing with his coaching staff is very good. I also think that you know, you touched on Bill Belichick is leading his assistance go which is a little bit fishy. The cynic in me says that Bill check knows you're not going to be successful. So who cares if they stay dude as a compass so much in the NFL, he is and I hate to say this. But the greatest coach in the history of the NFL. I I hate to say that again, but it is just the facts you have to show respect where it's do. But the one thing that is tarnished on his legacy is affected. His coaching tree is not very successful. So I think if you know he saw potential in these guys and what probably try to talk them into staying learning under him, which brings us to my next point. Jay Glazer reported on Thursday earlier, he said that I can see Tom Brady and Bill bell. Check retiring together, if they beat the Rams in the Super Bowl, we've talked about this on our show. And I tweeted it, and we've all tweeted it, and I've said if this meant the patriots winning in the Super Bowl this year. If it meant Brady and Belle, check retire. I'll be the biggest patriots fan there is. And I think that's huge. And you know, if he's letting Brian floors what she is. And all reports are that he's letting chattel shaneco and there's rumors shelter that he might let. Believe ago. Then that might be the end Bill check New England. He might be preparing for his exit after this season. We'll have to see how that plays out. But you're right. Jim called will coming in. And people have been saying that okay channel she never call plays. That's overrated semi. It's about how you can create an offense how you can scheme. How you can work together with with your guys in gym called will be there to mentor shadow shea. So I have no reservations about that. Moving over to the other side of the ball..

"This year's going to be fascinating. Because there's not many just no brainer coaches to me Mike McCarthy's going to get a job. He's his resume by far is the best of any unemployed coach Schefter wrote today or said on NFL, whatever his show he's on that. Jim Caldwell is going to be in the mix which sounds kind of crazy when I read it. And then you look like Jim called wolves won multiple places. He's taking multiple teams to the to the playoffs. Now grant at one of the teams was paid manning. But the other key to the lines of the playoffs like that happened. So that's not that crazy. And you just look around the landscape. I got news for you Lincoln Riley is not leaving Oklahoma. Are you going to hire Matt Campbell? And I will state to be your NFL head coach. Now that would be pretty bold. You know, there aren't that. Many just can't miss offensive coordinators around the NFL. I also forgot the Denver. Broncos vast Joseph is done. I just don't see they're going to be more job openings than actually good coaches available. So just because you fire your who is John Elway going to hire Mike Shanahan seriously. Who's it gonna hire? Because last last time you went down this road. He interviewed Vance Joseph. He interviewed Kyle Shanahan any hired Vance Joseph. So now to have faith that he's just going to get it. Right. He's proven to not be have the greatest feel for these situations. Like, Gary kubiak was an easy one for him. It was his buddy they played together. I I think there is way. Like, you know, when you do the supply demand chart demand for the amount of good coaches and the actual supply of them on the open market and guys you would potentially higher to fill the spots is a pretty stark difference. I think they're going to be way more openings, then good coaches available. That's going to be at keep this short and sweet thanks for listening. I appreciate all year. We kick this thing off when was that around the combine, I think was the first podcast, and it's been fun. I've really enjoyed doing this. We're going to keep it rolling. Kept it short because I know Christmas merry Christmas. If you're Jewish happy Hannukah, I know it already ended, but we're pro every damn holiday on this show. But I know these are fun couple days to see your family, and and enjoy it, and we got the college football playoff right around the corner. We got a couple we got a winner. And again, I I really appreciate everyone listening to the show and two thousand nineteen let's roll baby..

"Jim caldwell hours were so incredible that's what we needed in detroit was to do the same game plan but new england patriots run their players more than anybody else and yet you are complaining about running the players because you think the vets are going to think it's child extremely the experience pros he's talking about he's being the experienced pros who haven't experienced winning is one right haven't done shit but they're going to tell you how to do it right so yeah you said it wait event that's right it's on it's unreal it is it's it's so not part of the culture in the nfl because you do it in high school practices over we gotta run gasser coach is gonna make us run gases and college you don't do it very much right so then you get the nfl and of course it's a fulltime job and you're in shape throughout most of the year but pires are never quite as good a shape as they think they are and bill belichick has taken that upon himself to make sure that they are and that they're one of the only the only team i was ever on or around that what practices over and we have to run gasser like what are you kidding me that was the only team i was ever josh mcdaniels or when i was working for new england watching and it's a culture shock and it's a little militaristic little which they're not used to write and what else do we talked about i've told you about you know br brady in the score back centre exchange it could fumble a snap right and bill just goes run and everybody looks up and it just goes just fog and run and the offense to run around the goalpost and run all the way back and then run the players that are bitching they're moaning they're not ready to quit yet they realize they haven't done anything and they realize this guy's coming in from a place they're not happy about it that you can't lose anybody now they're not going to lose anybody especially with the guy like mapra tricia everything that i've heard from the nfl you lose people when you leave work early you lose people when you don't address situations head on you lose people when you realize that you're not a leader or you don't work hard enough.

"They lose games and he shouldn't be fired after this year and i thought that it was a little bit crazy to let go jim caldwell after nine and seven but we always knew that he was a placeholder for somebody bigger and better and that's what they wanted to go after in detroit so jim caldwell who's a quiet guy was put in a bad spot but we know this to be true that if you lose games in the nfl or you lose games than anything stories like this bubble backup and eventually detroit unless they win super bowls and i can't pick them to win a super bowl or to go that deep and a playoff run just yet because i still don't know what they are so i have to say that detroit is probably destined for a five hundred record around five hundred and that's going to be where it's at unless matt stafford a sense to the level his talent says he can ascend to so that means that they're gonna lose games that means that all of a sudden guys are gonna start wondering and pointing fingers about each other because they're worried about their jobs they're worried about their future they were worried about who the next general manager is going to be there wondering about who's going to come after them a little bit later they're wondering about whether or not they should be living in detroit next year or whether or not they will be living in detroit next year fingerpointing so come the anonymous sources so come the questioning of the coach and so come the problems were professionals aren't being treated as professionals where they have to run after bad days of practice 'cause that's what peewee football teams do while i can sit there and lambasts this and say that this is ridiculous and having to do up downs and and some.

"A jim uh as you all know dan just a hell of a man there's no question about it i've done this for a long time go with a lot of coaches he if this fight a man is there is uh in it'll let's not forget football in if either because you know i think there's some things that jim caldwell did that maybe don't get appreciated by enough people for a long time here and you can look it up players didn't come to detroit and get better with jim caldwell in this coaching staff you can go up and down that roster nc guys the came here and improved it bob quinn touched on this yesterday that's the lifeblood of a franchise guys still committed to sleep knowing how to play you've got a teach them out of the nfl players teach them how to play within your system bring young guys up to replace guys who leave for free agency get hurt retire whatever it is and jim caldwell as done that i mean just look at the number of guys that have gotten better then look back you know she was thousand one to two thousand twelve and ask company guys got better how many guys actually got to second contracts there's so put there's not a lot and i think that's the biggest thing he did was he made players the caves year better not all of them that doesn't happen in the league but a good percentage of them on the raw truth is this uh that means four years as the head coach jim caldwell able to be teams alliance were supposed to beat fry uh but not enough wins against the better echelon teams and and therein lie the problem dan yeah i am i think that's where the schedule really cut right down the middle of this year you know except for minnesota early in the season they didn't win any of the 5050 games they didn't win any of the games where you know maybe they were just a real slight favorite or real flight underdog and those are the teams that that ultimately after bt good teams honestly due handle their business if beat the teams they're supposed to be in except for cincinnati the.

"You said about him i think rings true this is a guy that has made the most of his opportunity i love the way that he runs and i'm gonna go with tian green are i really like dion green today especially when you consider again the lady in the cheesehead is going to start weakside linebacker for the packers late all right jim caldwell has been the head coach of his lions team for four years now he has been associated with this great game a professional football for much longer years overseen some very talented individuals in this sir great national football league throughout this week he's been asked time and time again about his future has always said he was and think about it his job is to get this team ready to play the green bay packers i have a lot of respect for jim caldwell i appreciate him as a man i appreciate the way he looks at life and you know footballs a great game and he knows that but he also realizes that there's something after the game and this lions team respects the hell out of him and whatever happens i think this lions team will be ready to go today get a nice win against the packers you you can say a lot of things about coach caldwell i think one of the things that all must be said is he's a good do i i don't think there's anybody out there that could say the jim caldwell some bad guy added dick jim caldwell isn't anything but a gentleman if you if you wanna have debates about his coaching accu sure if you want to have a debate about we getting the team prepared sure but steve all lack of what you said he's a good man and there something to be said for there all right we've got more coming your way as we continue to count you're down to your lives playing host to the green bay packers will have that more as we continue this is.

"To start slow if there you know they're playing a lot of bad points down the stretch and if if they're just hanging around relying on comebacks not really putting them away with a thority then you question where this team is in terms of being able to put away inferior opponents we know at this point that they can't beat good opponents which is a concern and that's what it's going to take if you want to get to the next level and right now i i just i don't have a lot of confidence that this staff has the formula to to get them to that level while hanging around alan parker's you do one thing that has not wavered the players earth enjoy playing for jim caldwell the question becomes justin why isn't that translating to important wings yeah no i somebody asked me recently whether called ward loss locker room and you know for all the cases you could make four moving in a different direction that's not one of them jim caldwell has the respect of his roster i i think they enjoy playing for him but you know i think it boils down to semantics at this point is is he a good enough coach on sundays or even leading up to to get them prepped to beat the opponents that fit they face and like i said it's it when they get in those gains against equally talented teams or teams that are better than them that old wins against teams with winning records it they fall short and consistently that this probably gonna be the case around most of the nfl but you have to win your fair share of those games if you're going to be a playoff team if you're going to be a division winner which this team has not won the division since the creation the nfc north and if you're going to make some noise in the postseason that's that's got to be the gold is franchise that's what bob quinn was brought here was to take this organization and make it a winning one it's just not there in the last two years or less sixty years if you will merge jeff in as always thank you very much for.

"They have a right really really strong defense as well and they do have themselves thirteen nothing lead and as i speak keen i'm just ran one in so the vikings up to scores here on the lines of actually played good football on turkey day winning four in a row on thanksgiving in the traditional game at ford field in the lions to me it's funny they're not awful they're not great i think the lions format categories probably one of the more difficult teams to figure out i still have no idea what this lines team is as i said it oh they can play really well and surprise somebody on any given day of the week they can struggle as we saw last week in chicago that was a nailbiter for them you know they didn't dominate but yet they find a way to win matthew stafford has made many comebacks in his career know the defense isn't anything close to dominant but there were gritty team give jim jim caldwell credit this team plays hard but but i don't think that we can call them a leak in any stretch of the imagination as i said let's go out to ford field right now and check in with john krieger was going to fill as soon as to what happened on that last dr john well what happened the day minnesota vikings thicket thirteen nothing lead on a sevenyard nineyard touchdown keeper by k tinam enter bidding play the previous play before they cut down to run by him a thirty one yard catch by garrick cannon he fumbled the football or so it seemed picked up by failing and run into the end zone for it that's down after route view that but ruled down by contact and then a spread formation set the stage for keen in this camera and rather easily the drive three plays thirty nine yards thick second off the clock it was set up by an emir of villa fumble sleep fifty five when the first thirteen nothing biking and i would agree the lion playing nowhere near like an elite team so far today john career ford field thank you very much for that update so thirteen nothing minnesota in what amounts to a revenge came for them let's be honest right vikings of two losses on.

"Uh well i'll tell you what are we have got things bruin here with quite the showdown at ford field you've got the purple people leader's coming in they have won six in a row since the detroit lions took care of business back in october first in minneapolis the lions though tori day come in heavy one three straight so we are looking forward to this tilt no question about it yeah it's always an exciting day here at ford field thanksgiving day i mean i love this game so much it's always fun to be out here with all of these fans it really is an amazing tradition here in detroit and i love being a part of that you could just feel a different buzz in the air wedded thanksgiving day airport he'll it's cool because this game really belongs to the lions a tradition started here and they're they're facing a divisional opponent today so it's a huge game and you know what it wasn't all that long ago our lion's story struggling in this thanksgiving their classic having lost nine straight now all of a sudden the tightest turn they've won four in a row jim caldwell three imo since becoming the head coach alliance he obviously really loves playing on thanksgiving day but there is the matter of the minnesota vikings coming in won six straight yet they're they are undefeated under jim caldwell on thanksgiving day so that the fund staff there but the vikings are on a roll right now we saw what they did to the la rams last week and the rams are on hot streak themselves so that was drawer set up to be at a very exciting game in the vikings has dominated in that gave so the vikings are tough opponent right now they're leading the division so you know if you wanna come out on top of this division the vikings are team to beat the lines have an opportunity to do that today we'll see if they're able to get it done or earlier this week the winds where defensive tackle car reporting a roster spot is available so bob putting goes out and he gets during a sevenyearold dwight for any it was kind of a shock earlier when the seattle seahawks you by the way played monday night cut the longtime defensive then three sacks four games he is now a member of the.

"Hani green bay packers while arab all listen winning in the nfl is hard people will tell you that all the time it can't be oh quite as good despite what lions head coach jim caldwell my try and tell you well he's had some really good ones has since it's hard to distinguish rules he had a string of their couple years ago that were pretty pretty for all of last year to so but this will obviously get a whole lot better than this as they played well his i'm sure he's talking about mad stafford that was really actually a very awkward cut but regardless jim call was not really a guy we expect a lot of emotion from anyway so maybe that's more parker for the course maybe jim called was the only one really tempering the kind of emotional response to a win against the packers that we get in a lot of this maybe he's the only one with any said because when you look at this your excited because of the division win it helps further your cause edgy look towards your ultimate goal which is trying to be competitive come mba or come nfl playoff time excuse me we're right now in the division your tour no you're staring up at only the minnesota vikings were tool one in the division right now two games better than you as far as the overall season record your five hundred you've got a headtohead went against the packers were also 500 in that division and so these are all things that are important mid no doubt worthwhile any large larger historical context of this win in these rivalry is something that will probably make a bigger deal out of than the lions will make a bigger deal oughta this is really more a psa for the outside world than it is for them for the packers on the other hand it becomes an interesting look into a few things in the nfl one is certainly coaching the other is.

"Why did they do that i was watching baseball yeah i was watching that game it was a an aggressive move and normally i'm idea i go for the touch him but that game was sort of taking an identity that you're going to need the three points especially with how the the goalline defense was working for pittsburgh it was an odd decision and then later in the game jim caldwell sort of learn from his mistake but then he went for a field goal when he probably should have been gone for a touchdown at that point you could tell that he regretted with that decision i like then i like the the logic of well if you're my highest paid player i got fourth goal go win me the game i liked the logic of i need a yard or two let me be aggressive i've got the highest paid player in the game even when you're saying it was a defensive game so why not even the highest paid play your best player which is why so many people were obsessed with bill o'brien yesterday who had a chance to end that game they need needed three yards the best player on the field yesterday was two shots in and he decided to hand the baltimore miller is that it was in a fury as everyone agreeing with that would still got the bill o'brien they put the put the handcuffs under shawn watson as a star was born yesterday and bill o'brien the only guy who soil did was his own ally and coach i think to sars were born because in that steelers lion's came that many people were watching because of the world series baseball outdrew football lesson i can understand that happens when los angeles has plan and houston's also major tv market juju smith schuster awesome martavis bryant you lost your gig.
