"Thank you, Mr. Ambassador. I'll be right back. Jim Talent will weigh in on the same thing about what are the Chinese doing in the South China Sea and what should we expect will happen. Stay tuned. Welcome back, America. I'm Hugh Hewitt. Former Senator Jim Talent from the great state of Missouri joins me. Good morning, Senator. How are you? Doing great, Hugh. I have to spring some breaking news on you for a reaction. This published in the Wall Street Journal less than an hour ago. China and Cuba have reached a secret agreement for China to establish an electronic eavesdropping facility on the island in a brash new geopolitical challenge by Beijing to the U .S. An eavesdropping facility in Cuba roughly 100 miles from Florida would allow Chinese intelligence services to scoop up electronic communication throughout the southeastern United States where many military bases are located and to monitor U .S. ship traffic. Officials familiar with the matter said China has agreed to pay cash -strapped Cuba several billion dollars to allow it to build the eavesdropping station. Now, Senator Talent, we did that for years with the Soviets. I'm sure we ought to go in and do it with Vietnam if they'll let us do it, but what's your reaction to that headline? Oh, I'm not surprised at all, Hugh. Their ambitions are global, and they're establishing a global network of bases. You know, they're on the horn of Africa and Djibouti. Djibouti, they're negotiating for the western coast of Africa. We're going to see Chinese ships in the Atlantic. They have a satellite or they have a radar facility, I believe, in Argentina. So this doesn't surprise me at all. They're going global. Their ambitions are global, and we need to be prepared to deal with them globally. Well, I do, you know, despite the efforts of Chairman Gallagher, despite the efforts of you and Ambassador O 'Brien, I just don't think people quite get it. I just got back from my Harvard reunion where we had a panel with a Harvard Law professor, a Harvard Business School professor, a Harvard undergraduate professor, all sinologists, and they all blame Donald Trump for Xi Jinping's behavior. I really couldn't believe it, Senator. It's like otherworldly in academia right now. Yeah, I heard your interview with Robert. Well, these universities have a stake in believing that China isn't aggressive and that if we just engage them and are nice, they'll be fine. I mean, Robert referred to the billions and billions of dollars these universities get. You know, I'm sorry, I mean, you should be charitable. I don't have to be. In research contracts, not to mention the tuition, because the students from China, you know, they pay the full price. Full boat. So, you know, who is it who said it's hard to get a man to believe something if his salary depends on him not believing it? Well, what is the appropriate response? I mean, I don't see any leadership out of the Biden White House. In fact, I see Lloyd Austin chasing around Chinese defense minister who won't talk to him. I see Secretary Blinken begging for a meeting. I know we sent Bill Burns, who's a competent guy, to a secret meeting in Beijing. I don't know that there's anything to be negotiated here, Jim. Well, I agree. You've been commenting on this and I think appropriately. So they've made a decisive turn towards appeasement. They would call it engagement. I had hopes early in the administration. They had some really good people at DOD. That was the bastion of China hawks, if you will. But it looks to me like the engagers and the appeasers have won out. And I think part of the reason is they're not prepared to do what you need to do if you really recognize the China threat..

"You get a live opinion of Gary today on the show. It's going to happen. I'm very excited about that. I was told yesterday, and I tweeted about this, that Gary Gensler literally brought these actions on Monday and Tuesday as an F -U to Congress from their bill they put out on Friday. He literally, literally, that's why he did it. These Binance or Coinbase enforcement actions, they were not on the books to do. He literally did them in reaction to Congress putting out a structure for a security versus a commodity. How did these guys just not go fire him tomorrow? I don't understand. If you're in Congress, and this guy has done this to you, and has basically said F -U publicly, why in the world would you let this continue? Have you guys seen my Bored Ape shirt? You guys seen my Bored Ape shirt? Guys, this is Ronald. This is Ronald. I got it, sorry. This is Ronald. Do we have a shirt zoom? Do we have a shirt zoom, Kim? Well, I can do you one better. Here we go. How low will you go? There's Ronald. Thanks, Ronald. That's my Bored Ape. You can go back. That's enough. Thank you. This is getting weird for me, too. Here we go. Gensler says US dollar is the only digital currency that we need. SEC Chair Gary Gensler appeared on CNBC's Squawk Box to discuss the recent lawsuits filed by the SEC against Binance and Coinbase. The lawsuits accused both platforms of operating as unregistered securities exchanges. Got every stories about the SEC today. Make no mistake, it is not proper custody to have funds in crypto securities on platforms like Binance. What? Look, we don't need more. And notice, do you like how he says crypto securities? Is that a new term he's trying to come up with? I think it is. Absolutely. Oh, we have this. Jim Kramer said get out of crypto today. Look, to be fair, he also thinks that there's coins called Solano and Cardanzo, so, you know. Guys, this is how you know we bought them when Jim Kramer says get out of crypto. All right, guys. Let's go ahead and bring on our special guest, Gary. Gary's going to come in. He's going to talk about everything that's going on here. I can't believe they missed TJ. It's weird. So let's go and bring him on. Oh, there he is. Hold on. Let me get my earpiece. There he is. We're coming live to you. This is Gary Cam. Hey, Gary. How's it going? We would like to know what's going on. Is Ethereum a security, Gary? Okay. Gary. Okay, Gary. I understand that's a hard one. I understand it's hard, Gary. Gary. What is a security? Can you just explain like what is a security? Gary, back to you. Okay. Okay. What's he looking at? This is weird. This is really weird. Okay. Okay. Okay. Gary, Gary, this is rude. Gary, you're eating during the show. Gary, you're eating during the show. Okay. Gary, can you please tell me, do you prefer leaves? Or the blood of children? Please. He turned his head away from the camera. This is very interesting, guys. Back to Gary Cam. Gary, I'm talking to you. Can we please move around so I can see Gary's face? Thank you. Thank you. Here we go. Okay, there we go. Thank you. Thank you. Okay, this is ridiculous. Gary, is Algorand a security? Gary, you promoted Algorand. You promoted literally an unregistered security. Gary, is Algorand a security? This is Mother Chucker. This is Mother Chucker. I can't make head or tail of this guy. He's all about the green. Golly. Gary, do you support a digital dollar? Do you support a CBDC? Gary. This is Mother Chucker. Get him out of here. I'm done with this guy. Get Gary out of here. Guys, that was disrespectful. Gary. You guys can't see. We have caged Gary. Gary is ours now. Now, what I've been told is Gary's not supposed to really leave his cage for a week. But starting next week, we will bring Gary in studio with us when it's time to talk securities. This is an AI BitBoy, an AICZ, and an AI Snoop Dog. I think people may make an appearance here too. This is very funny. So here we go. You ready? Well, let me just get that perfect size right here. And you guys see that's my that's my Gucci shirt rewarded. All right, team. We're here to decipher the Binance Saga. CZ himself will be joining us soon to give his own response to the allegations. This promises to be a real eye -opener. Yeah, they even said Binance was diverting billions into a separate company under CZ's control. Sounds like a plot from a comic book. And here's our man of the hour. Welcome CZ. We're stoked to have you here. I appreciate the platform, guys. While my legal team has advised me to tread lightly on specifics, I feel it's important to address things on a more... This is why I like CZ. ...with the greatest respect. ...as a staff record label and as a motherf***er. We're shook night! And if you want to be down with the SEC, then f*** you too. Gary Gensler, f*** you too. All you motherf***ers, f*** you too. You motherf***ers can't be us or see us. We motherf***ers... Sorry, they're supposed to be family friendly. They're blocking it out. We die. Out here in the metaverse, we warned you. We'll bomb on you motherf***ers. We do our job. You think you mob? We the motherf***ing mob. All I hear is the sound of facts. That's some heavy shit, bro. Sorry. One last thing, if I may. SPF, f*** you too. I see you on the yard. I'ma f*** you up. That's on everything. Okay. I think that's all we have time for today. But Gary Gensler, if you're listening, our team are reaching out for your response. You.

"It's really unforgivable. Jim, let's do this now. Cue up for me if you would. Cut Hey, it. here's how I know how bad this deal is. Here's Biden economic advisor, Bharat Ramamurti. He's on CNN, Biden's economic advisor. He's on CNN telling everyone, oh, this thing is great, man. This deal is awesome. Basically locks in the Biden agenda. Oh, really? You think that's going to be a good deal for you? Here, listen to yourself. I want to emphasize that it accomplishes three main things. Number one, it takes the possibility of a default off the table, which means we avoid an almost certain recession because of a first ever debt default. Number two, it protects all of the key pieces of legislation that the president signed into law in the last two years. New investments in clean energy, new investments in semiconductor manufacturing, new infrastructure investments that are being seen across the country. And third of all, it protects Social Security, protects Medicare, protects Medicaid, all these important programs that Americans rely on. We think it's a good, fair to the president's desk. Locks in that Biden agenda, man. This is the new deal, not the original deal we already passed. If you're scratching your head in disbelief that what I'm telling you is true, look it up yourself. We passed already a deficit ceiling hike bill called Limit, Save, Grow. That was far more effective,

Why are you pushing sex into baseball? people Are humping on the field? Is there something I missed? I mean I thought they were playing baseball. Why are you? I don't understand why sex has to be associated with. I'm not talking about I mean any kind of sex. I'm a little bit unsure why that has to be in baseball. Is a guy walking down the first baseline like a puppet? Like what's going on? Is there like something going on in the outfield? Okay, there's the outfielder in the bullpen. Look at what they're. Why is sex in baseball at all? Why? Why? I don't understand. You're there to watch a baseball game. Is there something I'm missing? Really? No? Okay, thanks Jim. Debt limit deal heads to vote in full House while McCarthy scrambles for GOP approval

"The debt ceiling and budget deal worked out between House speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Biden has advanced to the full House, where a vote is expected Wednesday. I'm Ben Thomas with a look at its progress. The House rules committee voted 7 to 6 to advance the bill, chairman Tom Cole, an Oklahoma Republican calling it a product of compromise. And reflects the realities of a divided government. We shouldn't allow that to overshadow what this bill accomplishes. It would restrict spending for the next two years while also suspending the nation's debt limit during that time, and the nonpartisan congressional budget office says it reduces deficits by $1.5 trillion over the decade, but South Carolina Republican Ralph Norman also a member of the freedom caucus was disappointed. We had a real bill that was going to make a difference. We did in the original bill. This being watered down is completely takes the teeth out of it. And I see why the Democrats vote for it. I see it now. He and Texas congressman chip Roy, who earlier in the day, said not one Republican should vote for this deal. Join Democrats in opposing the bill's advance. Ranking Democrat Jim mcgovern of Massachusetts accusing the GOP of weaponizing the debt ceiling, saying it's a precedent that will forever haunt the nation. One party can use the full faith and credit of the United States as a hostage to pass their widely unpopular ideas. Adding, someday, hopefully not in my lifetime, but someday there will be a Republican president. And you will remember this moment because what you are trying to do is get things enacted that you could not get done through regular order. Ben Thomas, Washington

Biden and GOP reach debt-ceiling deal. Now Congress must approve it to prevent calamitous default

"An agreement on the debt deal has been reached. Now that President Biden and House speaker Kevin McCarthy have reached an agreement in principle, a House vote has been scheduled. We're going to put the bill on the floor in 72 hours and facet. But democratic congressman Jim heims on Fox News Sunday isn't so sure. It's not done yet, and all you need to do is check the social media of the freedom caucus who are just obliterating this deal. A House vote is expected to take place Wednesday, support from both parties will be needed to win congressional approval before a projected June 5th government default. I'm Shelley Adler.

"To the Jim bohannon show at one 8 6 6 5 O Jimbo. One 8 6 6 5 O 5 four 6 two 6 glad you could be with us tonight. And let's take a look at some of the things happening out there. China has begun live fire, military drills in the water is off of Taiwan, so we have China acting in their usual barbaric knuckle dragging way. And there are a number of lessons that we can learn from all of this. One was the Nancy Pelosi trip really necessary. She's the Speaker of the House and while I'm not in favor of saying, well, we can't go to Taiwan because China might get angry. They held with China, which ought to be our national mantra when it comes to dealing with that rogue nation. The hell with China. But certainly, if President Biden didn't help any by blurting out Pelosi's visit and that the military didn't like the idea of the visit. And China is of course extremely sensitive about the relationship it has with Taiwan. It does consider Taiwan to be an integral part. Of China. Interestingly enough, the Taiwanese government agrees. They think that Taiwan is an integral part of China as well. Their only complaint is that they are the ones who should be running all of China. Not the butchers in Beijing. I would agree with them. It's not terribly likely to happen. The reality of the moment is, of course, that effectively they are two separate countries. In the meantime, it is vitally essential. That we update our military. That we stop wasting money on all kinds of little domestic pet projects and the like. We have got to see to it that we have enough ships enough planes enough missiles. And that we end our dependence on China for everything that matters. I mean, pharmaceuticals for Pete's sake. Rare Earths that go into all kinds of computer products. Nothing that's important should be something that we depend on China for or any other country that is questionable in terms of its well, frankly, honesty. And integrity and the Chinese government has none of either. I would frankly be in favor of eventually an embargo on all trade with China.

Good evening, Jim. Here in Washington monthly, I see you've written an article as headlined hey folks, we're not in a recession. And you go on to add that Biden administration critics have seized on an axiom that two consecutive quarters of negative growth gross domestic product growth signal a recession and you said it's not a rule followed by any economist I know. The official arbiter of whether in winter recession has begun. The business cycle dating committee of the national bureau of economic research applies more nuanced and reliable measures of actually that is their definition is it not? Yes, it is. Yes, it is exactly. The fact is that there are lots of technical reasons why the official GDP measure can go down even when the fundamentals in the economy are strong. And that's basically what we've been seeing. Well, I mean, if every administration can define what a recession is, at least there is one benefit there will never be another recession. Well, you've been to fight it as you said, the national bureau of economic research to find it. It was given that authority, G over a hundred years ago by Congress. "Democrats do not have the votes to pass their Voting Rights Act. This is the terrible piece of legislation that would federalize elections and really overturn all the voter integrity laws that have been passed in so many different states. The Democrats are desperate to do this. And but to do it, they have to overcome the filibuster. Well, it's not even clear that they have the 51 votes, but they certainly don't have 60. And so they are simultaneously pushing the voting rights bill and at the same time they're railing on the filibuster and they're trying to make life miserable for cinema and mansion. And they're going through this kind of theater, which seems to have a known outcome. But nevertheless, there are pushing it through anyway. I think they feel like if we can get mansion on the record, we can get cinema on the record. This will somehow maybe pressure them to change their mind. Now, Joe Biden, who's a pawn of this whole operation, recently tweeted, and I'm going to put this up on the screen. So you can take a look while I'm reading it to you. His favorite phrase these days is Jim Crow two. Crow two. He goes, Jim Crow two is about two insidious things. Let's see what they are. Voter suppression voters oppression and election subversion. He goes, it's about making it harder to vote and who gets to count the vote and whether your vote counts at all. Now this is really over the top rhetoric because well, I mean, you would think that somebody making these kinds of claims would be able to produce a long procession of people who have been trying to vote but have been unable to vote voter suppression. Then he goes on. It's about who gets to count the vote, as if election integrity bills are somehow creating a Republican counting teams that can somehow rig the vote and whether your vote counts at all as if you've now got a committee that's throwing out votes into the trash. I mean, this is beyond the pale. And even the equation to Jim Crow, obviously raises the question what was Jim Crow? Who was Jim Crow? People used offered Jim Crow Jim Crow, but who was Jim Crow? Well, Jim Crow was a kind of persona, a character, both in a, in writing, as well as in the theater. It was mainly developed by a guy named Thomas rice in the early 19th century. It was a kind of stereotypical and today's sensibility, very offensive. Cartoonish portrait of African Americans and of black culture. It was based upon a kind of folk trickster named Jim Crow that was apparently popular in the kind of folk tales that were around slavery. But this idea, which was a negative depiction of blacks came to symbolize laws that were passed starting in the late 19th century continuing the 20th century. And these were called the Jim Crow laws. And essentially what they meant is they separated blacks and whites into two independent worlds. This is not to say that blacks and whites didn't interact at all. They did, but they interacted only in very controlled settings. You might have, for example, a black maid, cleaning the home of a white family. But by and large if you are a black guy who wanted a haircut, you have to go to a black barber, at least this was in states that had Jim Crow or segregation laws. Black businesses were separated from white businesses. You had, for example, in Durham, North Carolina, white banks, and black banks. A blacks and whites went to different schools in segregated cities and segregated states. And so they didn't attend school together. And so this isolation of one race from the other, somewhat a kind of American version of apartheid you'd have to say, well, all of this is utterly removed from anything that Biden is talking about now, because obviously no one is talking no one's even considering any return to those kinds of. That kind of racial separation. Now it is true that in Jim Crow days in the days of segregation, the Democratic Party and only the Democratic Party systematically practiced voter suppression. Their techniques were things like the poll tax, so you have to pay money to vote. And the idea here was to disenfranchise people who essentially had no money or couldn't afford to. So this was a kind of open way of isolating only you guys can vote and you guys can't vote. Again, there's no resemblance to anything going on now. And the other technique of voter suppression was the Ku Klux Klan. It wasn't just that the clan would randomly perpetrated violence against blacks, but they would stand, you'd have all these clan guys would come to the polls and look to see of which black eyes show up and it's like, listen, we're gonna be paying you a visit later, you're gonna really regret your shirt up for the polls. Of course the fear on the part of the Klan was that these blacks were gonna be voting as they typically did Republican. So this is the actual history of voter suppression. So think of the irony of Biden, whose himself paled around with segregationists. He was a friend of Robert Byrd. He was a friend of allotted, though, the racist worst races in the Democratic Party, and this guy is lecturing us about Jim Crow. When you turn to the voter integrity laws, what you find out is that the provisions and the voter integrity laws in states like Georgia are only trying to implement now things that already exist in democratic states. And so, for example, right now, even with voter integrity laws, it's easier to vote in Georgia than it is, for example, in New York. And yet you never hear Democrats calling New York a racist state. It seems that only when Republicans pass laws to protect the vote, then suddenly it becomes racism, whereas if the exact same laws exist in Delaware or New Jersey or New York, no problem. We're not even going to mention that pretend that no one notices count on the media to kind of play the same fiddle, play the same tune that we are, we are playing. And here's Amy Klobuchar, basically talking about why the filibuster needs to end. She goes democracy is around the world do not use the 60 vote threshold. As if to say that because the filibuster is American, it's not used by other democracies, a sort of we don't really need it. It's not a necessary concomitant democracy. Well, okay, but many democracies around the world have no protection for free speech. Many democracies around the world don't protect civil rights. They elevate one tribe, the majority tribe over the minority tribe, the Hutu over the Tutsi, or the other way around. Some democracies, Great Britain is a good example. Coexist with the monarchy. Other democracies in the Muslim world Pakistan's a good example used majority rule to impose Sharia law. So this idea that sort of democracies around the world don't do it the way we do is not exactly what doesn't make the point that globe which are as trying to make, that somehow they become exemplary and we should follow their model, not at all, America has struck a balance between majority rule and the protection of minority rights. Yes, the majority gets to rule, but within a certain limited domain, with rights for the minority, including people who live in states that didn't vote for Joe Biden. So all of this I think is being obscured if not lost in this debate, I think the good news is that even though we're hearing a lot of nonsense in the debate, the debate as far as we can tell now is going to have a satisfactory.

Just a preacher. Of course he's also been wrong every time he's predicted or prophesied anything because he's a fucking liar and a cheat. He predicted that trump would win the two thousand twenty presidential election. He predicted a civil war between christians and some other people i guess the the opponents were not and after january. Say someone to allow that one time democracy. Yeah okay. he says he knew about nine. Eleven in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine but he didn't mention it to anyone until after nine eleven thousand one ski do slipped as he stated. Jim baker did have a stroke. And unfortunately it didn't kill it. And the son of a bitch is still broadcasting. Bullshit he still leveraging fear of the unknown he still abusing the misplaced trust. People put in religious leaders to fatten his personal bank accounts. It's not even a real stroke. He doesn't sound funny like my dad. University is exactly as valuable as not a degree from north south Decision those early days. They had to threaten people with helen. Take their money door to door. It took out by nineteen six the dual working for pat robertson. A very credible man. Who at seventy three once. Put out a video claiming that he could lay press. Two thousand pounds yes. This has nothing to do jim baker. I only include this detail. Because it is so wonderfully stupidly absurd that everybody needs to know this i to give you a sense of how much that did not happen. Because it didn't have the florida state university leg press record the same year for its football players with six hundred and sixty five pound a regular commercial leg press machine like at a gym. You can't even put two thousand because you can you not a pound. You can add. But somehow a geriatric pat robertson was pumping iron with jesus and he could also probably totally throw a football over those critics. He's lie. Why would you say that. That's a small car. Said he could powerlift his seventy legs to be fair. Moving car with your legs was way. More common when pat robertson was drawn up back in bedrock. Oh i'm sorry thom but before you move on no heath and i will literally explode if we don't get to do a quick lightning round on the that makes sense head in the studio. I installed that while you were sleeping. See so pat robertson go cold scotland a dark land overrun by said gay. People wear needle rigs to give straight people eight outer space full of gaseous balls. Said people with too much plastic surgery gut. The is like they're oriental. Also told of you were the towels in ken. Have okay thank you tom. Thank you sorry needed. I know you had to get out of your system. I get melty. He's melody it looks like he's basis. Full gashes balls. I dislike hearing pat. Say anyway tammy. Jim started their work with. Joe aligarh pat robertson at the christian broadcasting network. See call them. Patty melt and patty melts is crazy about this brilliant. They were doing a christian. Puppet show for kids called. Come on over okay. I did try to find some footage of this. And i only saw these say peanuts come. It may have been less creepy. If it works. I would say i can only find. It was sort of nestled in videos of other things. I i need you to imagine a puppet show on a low budget tv channel. And then just need you to know in the very bottom of your heart underestimating. How bad and creepy and weird. This puppet show don't care what you can imagine right since christian. Entertainment is the very lowest possible bar to slither over. This show was an inexplicable success. And jim was given his own primetime. Show the seven hundred club. The seven hundred club quickly became the flagship of cbn. For reasons jim and tammy left. Cbs and joined trinity broadcasting network this to not much of a match made in heaven. Eight months later the baker's left tbn when a rift between. Jim and station owner. Paul crouched that's interesting. I had no idea that wasn't the original hosted seven hundred club. I was thought the name of it was like a hat tip to pats age. Actually named after the seven hundred financial supporters robertson was able to rope in during a seminal nineteen sixty six telethon to keep the network afloat and though baker was the first permanent host the show a but on for six years by the time he joined the jesus. Christ what have i done with my life. I we used to have magic fun. The jim and tammy moved to charlotte north carolina in nineteen. Seventy six pair realized that what the world really needed was more late night. Talk shows and so they started the p. t. l. club by the ways stands for praise the lord so there's show was the praise the lord club sounds weird. Most people just called the jim and tammy show which is way more accurate than pt l. Since it's really marked the beginning of the aggressive personal branding that launch the baker's into relative stardom. They launched a pto satellite network and soon the pto club was airing. It affiliates all across the country. And you're wondering how on earth anyone based at tv show on these monsters. Personalities are mind. You that this was a time when we as a nation thought the david letterman. We broke really close to the camera than there's any reason for him to be. All the way is just ince's proven chicks at pizza was fucking huge jim and tammy and the whole pt l. schtick became absolutely massive so massive in fact that they couldn't be confined just television so they launched a theme park in south carolina called heritage usa. Herod you say wasn't success on a level. That should absolutely boggle your mind tom any level of success. These people had boggles mind. That's okay. i'm just quoting in bulk here. From wikipedia the facilities included the five hundred one room heritage grand hotel the attraction main street. Usa that's just a main street by the way is seven traction on indoor shopping complex the heritage village church upper room. Don't know what that is. A four hundred unit campground. What the jerusalem. Amphitheater conference facilities king's castle a skating rink prayer and counseling services cable television production studios bible and evangelism school visitor retreat housing staff and volunteer housing timeshares and the heritage island waterpark and recreational facilities the only larger and more well attended theme parks were disney world and disneyland order cup peres. Usa employed twenty five hundred people. It earned a hundred and twenty six million dollars a year and it hosted over four point. Eight million visitors a year. Okay sorry just circling back. Did you say it has prayer and counseling services. That was what they get what. The fuck is a prayer service like you get help with a guy in a room with advice about your wishing awkward your do you keep your wishes in your room and call them deal. Leave it outside the right. Just pray for good prayers. And then you know. Tom you said there's a four hundred unit campground here. Could you imagine camping and being his fucking dirty as possible from campus campus socks and then having to to church watermark. Dare rents you off. His water of those things are going far. Better for jim tammy than they had any right to expect and certainly better than they deserve. But it couldn't possibly last because the whole thing was built on a pyramid of scams layered in and among swindles and rackets viewers of y'all were donating as much as a million dollars a week and the money and the fame was too tempting for the morally bankrupt. Jim baker rather routinely the bakers would take to the air and beg and plead cajole and promise in order to get viewers and believers to fork over their hard earned money to the baker ministry. And these crass please eventually caught the attention to the fcc in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine. The fcc launched an investigation into the misuse of these funds and found that funds which were allegedly being raised for overseas religious missionary work. We're actually being used to expand their cash cow air. Did you say that same investigation. Also revealed that some of fundraising funds were raised. Not for the church but for the bakers who decided to just keep some of that money for themselves. The only way this could be more insulting powered. The waterside slides inherited usa with the tears. The neglected mission told them up there in squeeze like there's a business for you could charge. I i still good erection. Mostly orphans crazily. However this would not be the end of jim baker. The fcc voted four to three not to pursue the investigation. Jim baker then sold the tv station that he owned and since he now no longer owned a tv station. The fcc no longer had any power. To regulate the baker's the justice department took over the investigation but they too declined to press charges. The media attention from the investigation scandal. Actually only added to gyms converts. The baker's took to the air to do what they do best they leverage the investigation is a government witch hunts and once again they pick the pockets and the faithful. Okay it's really hard to have sympathy for the people that donated to the baker's jim and tammy look like dead cabin so when you get asked for money by undead. Cabbage patch kids. You say no okay. I fuck whoever put the picture of me you know and if you told me one or both of these people were eventual dummy i would. I don't know why. Hollywood sprung for andrew garfield they could have gotten the corpse of rick moranis. True ric brandis isn't like just could've killed merck miranda in one thousand nine hundred five. The irs investigated. The baker ministry. Found that one point. Three million dollars of funds raised by the baker's for church stuff was instead stolen and used by jim and tammy for personal shit the irs saw through the thin veneer of god talking and declared the whole thing a scam and they recommended that the church be stripped of its tax exempt status again. However nothing happened. This isn't surprising. Though since the reagan administration was openly reluctant to prosecute and shutdown popular television evangelists and upset has religious base. Once again the bakers were off the hook but their winning streak win last forever right now that that would be the story of all the other churches serve it takes a lot noah in one thousand nine hundred seventy two scandal. That would bring down the baker's broken. Stop me if this sounds at all familiar. Jim baker through an emissary. Pay two hundred and seventy nine thousand dollars to buy the silence of jessica hahn and protect his reputation. Car sounds familiar. Sounds like someone. Yeah sounds like jim overpaid. And that's a fucking nineteen eighty-seven yeah trump. Got the art of the deal on that one all right here. I really do want to make sure that. I'm very clear. Jim baker along with pto co host. John wesley fletcher drugged and raped. Jessica hahn a woman who worked for pto. There's a lot of bullshit floating around on this and it's frequently phrased inaccurately as a sex scandal but these guys raped this woman and then try to cover up their crime with money. This crime was uncovered by charles shepherd a reporter for the charlotte observer. Who discover the payoff to hahn. When he discovered that baker kept two sets of books for the ministry. Everything went tits up bonkers for the baker's wants the han rape was uncovered allegations of sexual abuse of another man was uncovered and rival televangelists. Took to the larry king show to air more dirt on the sexual misdeeds of jim baker baker resigned from pt l. but not before hand picking his successor in jerry. Falwell baker chose falwell because he believed that falwell was loyal and because he feared rival evangelist. Jimmy swaggart swaggered had initiated internal investigations into baker's sexual improprieties and baker was afraid swagger. It was trying to steal his church scam out from underneath them. None of the lunch table drama bullshit would matter as more and more allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced. Falwell was under intense pressure to repudiate jim baker and eventually bar. Jim baker from returning to pto. The scandal caused a crisis a fundraising faith in the flock. So falwell took the tv and he promised if viewers are just send him the twenty million dollars they needed to keep their weird jesus amusement park going and he would take a ride down the biggest water side of the park wearing his favorite suit. What yep okay. The line in the sand for their audience is here. So there's just like a slide sounds fun but hold on would it be like ormeau. Well it fucking worked. Sympathetic viewers. Shit money at the beleaguered. Pto club and they raise the money and jerry falwell took a trip down a water slide in his favourite suit okay. I'm trying to think of the thing. I would not do on a water. Slide for twenty minutes. I can't think of. I mean you pay to get kicked in the stomach. At the end of a water slide. So hard that you shot yourself in vomited time. So thank you for that reminded. That is mentioned that every five episodes in my contract your contract with who. Why self okay. Except for that. It was really fun on my so impaired. Jim baker was out of the church. And all would soon be well with the evangelists scam unity except that it wouldn't because the bankruptcy judge called bullshit on the whole thing and falwell was forced to resign as well. The pto ministry inherited usa was all going down in flames and falwell called jim baker as quote a liar. An embezzler a sexual deviant and the greatest scab and cancer on the face of christianity in two thousand years of church history. I feel like scabs. Should be mad about that quote. And that i have to say as a pretty hefty insult when you consider the breath and depth of the many scabs and cancers on the face of christianity that they have still managed to venerate who to be fair while sun was barely out of law. School at this point hasn't really gotten his legs under him. All right we gotta scab going here. We're going to pause. Will the bleeding stop. But we'll pick edit after a little apropos of nothing. I don't think so. Many people are invested in the opening. Pop culture reference. That if we skip it in an intro we have to introduce it then into the apropos. Something that's where i disagree. with you. game of thrones. Let nothing come off. i guess now. Welcome to the a and e. p. a. Show what's a what's the any he hates. The noah eddie. Lie prayer our. Y'all i i tell a van jellicoe spin off show. You're just in time for the burn young money. Our guys noah's definitely are leathery white guy but is not a lady but we're not using the eli we wrap this tummy and duct tape and put lipstick on it. Well that actually looks through. Lacquer guys guys televangelists are literally the worst kind of con- person there is. They offer nothing. They prey on the old and feeble. They take comfort and tradition and big questions about the universe and turn it into a way to pick. Somebody's pocket route. Okay well. how much did you guys raise anyway. Eleven million dollars so the h. e. sas surely do on jet and we're back who say for how long but we're still doing honesty and skepticism for right now anyway right. Baker gonna exposed fraud bravest bessler and liar. Love it if the story was over at that boy but we all know. It isn't so tom. Where does jim go from here. All right so bakers been kicked out of his church and was imploding. Investigative reporting from the charlotte observer revealed even more misdeeds. the baker bullshit factory was selling guaranteed four day yearly lifetime. Vacations at their heritage. Usa theme park. he's memberships. They were not cheap but they sold like crazy. Tens of thousands of them in fact were sold. This is a problem when you have a five hundred room. Hotel doesn't work. Baker went onto sell exclusive partnerships in the hotel venture between all the scams bakeries. More than twice what was needed for the actual project so jim baker put three point four million of the leftover dollars in his pocket and walked away whistling actually similar business model for crowd health. Right he's get. There's no way that company exists anymore. A finally after all the scams and frauds a grand jury was convened. The probe lasted sixteen months after which baker was indicted in nineteen eighty eight on eight counts of mail fraud. Fifteen counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy and the next year jury found baker guilty on all twenty four counts and a federal judge sense. Jim baker to forty five years in prison and levied a five hundred thousand dollar. Fine justice seemed like it was served when baker was remanded into federal custody. Having an excuse not fuck tammy faye anymore feels more like me. Attractive forty five years this great and all but i kind of need the bind to be bigger for the three point. Four million pay four times over and housing on that fine. Yeah now unfortunately. Bakers crime struck a chord with the sentencing judge. Who said quote those of us who do have a religion are sick of being saps for money grubbing preachers and priests and quote. This statement would be leveraged that appeal by bakers legal team and while the conviction was upheld. The sensing was reduced from forty five to eight citing the judges injection of his own religious beliefs into the original sentencing. Jim would serve almost five years of his eight year sentence before being led on on parole. But we still owed six million dollars to the irs on release judge mansions on religion. And they give them a fucking lighter sentence because it find a fucking atheists next time between this and masterpiece cake.

After my first week of practice in La, he said, we've been trying to get you for three years. I said, well, he said you can play, can't you? I said I play a little bit. He said, we we want to start you. I said, well, look, I don't mind playing behind Koreans but I know you play better with the starters. We we're going to start you, I'll call my wife. I fell to my lead, my knees. Like I was in church, I was so expensive. Come on fig about, I'm playing with Cleveland. "There's the whole situation, Spencer Haywood. During the the finals. There was the injury to Kareem. I'm sure I'm missing a ton of other things. Like, it was an insane season. You could write a book on that. Like, what do you remember most about that season? The thing that I remember, most was how close we were Because see, I wouldn't let anybody excuse, the term. Fuck with cool Norm Nixon Bush, Carter. All of our smaller players, you know, because because Coupe didn't know that, he only weighed a hundred ninety-five, I would fight anybody at any time and was the most physical aggressive, or dominating, big-time playmaker that I had ever played with them. And, you know, he wasn't a great score but as the years went on, he became a great 3-point shooter. But what people don't know, it's like, when you see these guys like Durant and all the stuff that they're doing, this is if there was one guy that could stop them. I'm not talking about slowing down, I mean stop. Now, it would have been Cooper cuz he's in Chrome and then it's toughness. He had that toughness like magic. They were just, they were made for each other because both of them are incredibly tough. And a lot of people don't don't understand that how tough Coupe was dead. Point is, is that we cared about each other, we party together, we hung out together on the road and, and we protected each other and that system that won that Championship was a McKinney system and worsted was smart enough. Not to mess with it. Although he patronized career. Ridiculously, you know, you know, you know. Yeah, he loves the cat so you gotta get agree with this. What I tell everybody if if Jack McKinney, had not gotten hurt and not had that tragic accident. There would be no Pat, Riley. Know, that would be no Pat Riley that state cuz he would have been are closed for the next for that whole run of that decade. Yeah. Great Point. Great point. Because basically, it was Jack system and all they did was Speed the game. A member we played to fold we cuz you have it. You had to let magic and cook run. So we would play Fast getting the break up, the floor. If they didn't get anything on open look or lay up or or dump their member. We were wait for Kareem. Yeah, the game. He's not remember this, too. But you being out there. Do you, like you said about the game today? Jim was what they called with the term. I hate that stretch for strength five. They're required to go up underneath the basket cuz you can shoot says 18. When it came in with really open up the floor to allow magic to really do his thing in there. Well, thank you. Thank you. You're right. You know? But it was just everything. Just seemed to work log. Everything just seemed to work on Clockwork and then the Mystique of being in LA and then then the Magics greatness and Kareem's greatness. You know, they thought Kareem was on his last legs, but, but all he needed was to play with better players. Yeah. And that's what happened. We had people were all he had to do was do what he did best. Let Jim Charles, take that beating. You say you, just make all the big I never saw Kareem. It's a big free throw. I never thought I'd miss a big shot. I never saw magic. Miss a big free. Throw a big shot. They were just winners man. Just incredibly incredibly gifted, and I just want to vent a little bit..

"When you find an attractive foreground that could be Flowers of fallen log a nice a rock texture or lichen or something like that. We're talking of nature of course but but you can use the same the same technique with architecture and even even a fashion. You make that foreground disproportionately large compared to the background. And you have everything in focus. And so when i tell people this they first okay. There's our mountain range now. Where is a foreground. Could be a cactus could be. Does this clump of flowers here. And once you find that that. I think that helps people with their vision. If they have trouble seeing untutored. I just developed these these ways of imparting basically the same information but from a different angle. Oh i'd love to in one of those classes speaking a witch again. You've got a trip coming up in july. If the covert world allows to iceland there are a couple of places on the planet that are sort of like meccas for photographers e. You gotta go there just to see if you're as good as the landscape. Tell me about the t quite often. I think we all take pictures in. We're not up to the challenge of the picture. We see it we can. We understand it but we cannot get you know the lens and sensor to see what we see. Tell me about iceland. Why are you going there. What do you hope to be able to give everyone. Iceland has tackler landscapes unlike anywhere else in the world. i've done many tours in iceland In late winter specifically so there's been months of cold in the ice caves are safe to go in and ice caves are just spectacular. One of my all time for things to shoot blue ice so they've got the ice. Your black sand beach with giant chunks of ice on the they've got beautiful mountain ranges got the aurora borealis spectacular waterfalls. If you're lucky enough you might get volcanic eruption. But that's only if you're lucky day of blue the goons that are siam colored blue bird life just so much there so with respect to how you preface that i tell people that they have to think as a lens sees. You can't look at the scene and then photograph it with. Oh let's say a wide angle lens. A wide angle lens does not give you what you see nor does it telephoto. So you have to look at a scene thinking wide angle and then thinking telephoto. So can i use your telephone here to crop a certain aspect of the scene or war. Would it be better with a wide angle with. Let's say dominant foreground. Like i talked about just a few minutes ago so i tell people you've gotta think as lens sees otherwise it doesn't work so many times people will say to me. I'm sure you've heard this to. You should have been there because my camera just just didn't capture what i saw. Well it never captures what you see. You gotta get over that you have to say. I'm going to capture this as the camera sees it as my fourteen millimeter season. Or my seventy two hundred or my macro lens. That's how you have to see the scene otherwise you'll stagnate in your photography..

"Bad roads. But it's all about taking photographs going back to the taj mahal. Anybody can whip out an iphone and get the same picture we've seen since birth of that building right can. Can you teach even even in workshops even when you got him other can you teach artistic vision. Ooh that's a really good question. I think to a degree you can. Well i would say to to a large degree. I i have affected and influenced lots and lots of people. I know that that many people credit the improvement of their photography to with me with with my guidance. Bmi my tours or online teaching or even reading my books. It's easier in the field. I can give a presentation on composition for example and i can talk about the same thing that everybody talks about rule authors leading lines. Yup yup all that kind of stuff but the truth is the world is really a compositional mess except for a building the taj mahal which just happens to be symmetrically perfect. You walk into a forest or you are. you're in a safari vehicle in africa or you're in the rim of the grand canyon and there's there's stuff everywhere there's rocks and trees and bushes and clouds and sort and flowers and fallen logs and just just stuff and so. I've tried to glean what students of mine need to know what they don't know what they're not comfortable with and i've been teaching for a long time and i've come up with suggestions things that i point out examples that i give that direct their focus to things before them other than the traditional deleting line in the s-curves and the and that for example. I learned back in the seventies from the great landscape photographer. David much what. I call the classic landscape technique and and what he taught me was. If you use an i talked about this one day. I he he lectured and i was there up and talked him afterwards. And i mentioned this this particular thing. His style was to use a wide angle lens and he would get very close to the foreground like three four five feet use complete depth of field and that made the foreground disproportionately large compared to the background. That was his trademark. He became famous for that. He made a great deal of money selling beautiful landscapes because of that technique. So i adopted that and so when i teach. I tell people that when you're doing landscapes you're going to deal with compositional mess in most cases. I you need a background. Let's say a mountain range or a glacier or waterfall. Then you need a foreground and.

"Jim how you doing today. I'm great scott. Thanks for inviting me. It is my pleasure jim. I am impressed. I you look at everybody. You got to go to the website. That's just one of the rules here. These days i gotta go to the website and look at jim. Zuckerman dot com. It's j i. M z u c k e r dot com. If it's possible to have a broad scope to somebody's work. You've got every single kind of photography that i think is possible is showing up in your work and it is dynamic. It's colorful it's got a lot of real energy behind it. So i got ask you some reading your website and one of the first things i learned. Is that photography was not always your passion. You were actually studying to be a doctor. And how do you get from wanting to be a doctor to photography well. My sister's boyfriend introduced me to the dark room. And i just found that so exciting. He loaned me his camera. Before i had one showed me how to use it. And i started taking pictures with it and it was just blew. My mind was so exciting. And i thought to myself i have got to do this. And so i made the switch much to the dismay of my family but as you can imagine but i never regretted it net. Not not for a minute and i love photography from the beginning and i still do still have the passion. Oh very cool. Did you remember what it was that turns john with those early experiences. What is it about photography that said this has got a connection to something deep for you. It's a good question. i'm not sure if it was any one particular moment. But i can't remember something that made me want to do special effects and and i did i special effects for ten years. I kind of disdained normal photography in the summer of sixty nine. I was working in pearl harbor. It was a summer job between semesters working on old world war two dry docks maintaining them and in one of the dry docks. I found a piece of broken red glass. It was from an old darkroom from the forties. And i was just experimenting with color infrared film and i realized that if you shoot through the glass like a filter you get one set of colors and if you reflect in the glass you get another set of color so you could. In essence create a double exposure
