Thank you. Welcome back, Christmas business. Some hotel areas think that the lodging business might not return to normal until next year at least to survey of a 130 industry leaders in the U.S. found mostly performance levels won't return to pre-pandemic levels before 23, one hospitality chain knows those challenges to well. It's the hard rock international it's world famous brand, restaurants, casinos, hotels, operates in more than 70 countries. You see them there along with a cafes, of course, which all adds to the hard rock name. Wherever it is in the world, the blues all hotels and casinos. Jim Allen is the chair of hard rock international. He joins me now from the headquarters in Florida. Jim, obviously, omicron sent everybody back scurrying. And now I guess you have to rethink a plan for the rest of this year. What are you going to how do you do that? What do you do? Well, first of all, Richard, thanks for having us. Happy new year to everyone. It really depends upon the geographic region to give an example businesses absolutely booming in Florida. It's really not having any effect whatsoever. Other than frankly, you know, employees dealing with the virus on an individual basis. But last night we were notified in Ottawa in Canada that we need to close for 21 days, you know, our casino project there. So New York City still very, very challenged. Internationally, certain parts of Europe, okay? Other parts going back down into a lockdown. Mindset. So each geographic region is unique. So taking the fact that on a COVID will do what it wishes and you will have to respond and to a certain extent be proactive. But what's your strategy for this year? Obviously New York is still a big hope for a casino. And you've just done the deal over in Vegas. And you obviously want to expand. But how would you describe that philosophy? I think from the pandemic standpoint, we just continue to move forward. Focus on the safety of our employees and guests. But as far as a business standpoint, 100% the brand is in a very proactive mindset of moving forward and expanding. Obviously, you know, entering into a relationship for close to 80 acres on the Las Vegas Strip, literally on the 50 yard line, probably not a better partial of land in Las Vegas. That's something that's very exciting for us over the next three to four years. If we're fortunate enough to be selected in the down state, you know, process in New York, that would be another huge home run. Very, very excited. We got to the finish line in Barcelona in Athens. And now Mexico City. So, you know, three gateway international cities. Now those deals are completed. Certainly looking forward to opening Vegas and very hopeful in New York City. Right. And internationally, I mean, obviously the core gambling area, Macau, for example, and they're like, they just approving to be extremely challenging. And I'm wondering for hard rock international, do you switch? Do you put more precedents for domestic U.S. than international? Well, certainly if the right opportunity came up in Macau, we would be very interested. I think one of the things that we bring to a market like Macau is that we are in partnerships all around the world for many, many years. And ironically, we were actually in McAllen at one time, but really only as a hotel brand. So yes, we would be interested, but on the flip side, you know, we're very, very enthusiastic about Japan, whether it be Hokkaido or Tokyo. So we're in it for the long run there. Our first hard rock cafe opened in 1983. And we think that's a great opportunity as we move forward. Enough of that. You're aging me. I remember it. Enough. Enough already. Listen, okay, good to see you. I wish you and yours all the best for the thank you, sir. Thanks, Richard. Thank you. Always a pleasure. 1983, cut a lot. I think I was just finishing law school. Tv remote. maybe it's the same guy And i as i said you There is a probably a way to sort of bottom up together and teach the receivers remote all the i. r. codes from the I'm sorry the dish remote all the i. r. code from the receiver of the tv. Remote now the better way to do it. Which apparently he did. And it didn't work In direct tv documentation. There's a list of manufacturers and a single code single code number and you can push a certain button combination on the direct tv remote and enter that code number and it should control devices by that company so say for example. You look in the code. Your you want to be able to control the sony. Atv and in that table there's sony. Tv code number zero five nine so you go to the dish remote or the direct tv remote and you push certain number buttons and then you enter zero five nine and it should at that should work but apparently it hasn't in this case so sorry to hear that screen was made by optimum actually wasn't probably made by optima. Let's see jim. Allen asks Would re scanning original seventy millimeter films to eight. k b. A good argument for eight k. And the answer is yes. seventy millimeter. Coup would probably scan to eight k. Very well robert zone actually made another argument that i just thought i just remembered which is if you're a photographer a digital photographer and you're using a you know even moderate camera. It probably has eight k. resolution. Some phones even have eight k. Resolution and displaying that on an eight k. Display should be pretty wonderful. Also eight k. displays are generally larger than six k. displays as in the shootout. They're using the smaller size of eight cade project Flat panels at seventy five or seventy seven inches. In the case of the l g they go up to eighty five and larger. And when you when you increase the resolution you also want to increase the size in order to get the benefit of it so.

"Event. This isn't about politics. It's about saving lives. This is about unity, not division. And bottom line is about taking action. Okay, because not only do we live for freedom. We were asked the freedom. We die for freedom, but we mother and appreciate freedom. So to everybody out there, Stand up, Step up. And if you don't understand, Get with the motherfucking program. Well, damn down, bro Guy. I mean, what does he do? He has two or three good songs. He dances. He's he's surrounded by gorgeous women. It looks like the Cuban Mr Magoo heap when he's up on stage. Uh, he's kind of aged out, but he's still I like his music. No, I got it sounds good, like his moves, and he can dance and again, the the very first act. I don't remember this. You and I opened up the hard rock hotel in Atlantic City. You did our show The very first weekend, Jim Allen and those guys opened up that place and the very post first. Sure they had was pitbull. You went home, but that Saturday night I went and I took Gabriel and the family to that, like Mike Martucci took Danielle and Gabriel up to the stage and right there by Pitbull. The guy can dance the guy can sing and again, the women he puts around him in the choreography is really, really great. But I find it to be so unattractive. I really don't know He is, uh He's very honest. And yet in the videos, all the the most gorgeous one, they gravitate towards him. But either way on stage to everything you said that it was true. Look, uh CNN and Kamala Harris is saying that the root cause of the unrest in Cuba is climate change. Not really. But they could say that right and then just dismiss it as such, but because that's how stupid they are, but what we could be doing what we could be doing. There's one guy, the mayor of Miami who's calling believing it. I'll play the clip in a second, but I'll just play the clip. What we could be doing is restoring the Internet to Cuba. We had that ability and we're not doing that We could restore the the Internet is shut down. And of course, you know that's uh Portends bad things for us, because that's that's what's happening in this country. It's starting with the censorship. But once stuff gets really out of hand, and by the way, there's this, uh, 1972 study that predicted that society will end by 2040 KPMG did a study this year. And they confirmed. Yeah, we're on track that that economic production will stop in about 10 years in society. As we know it is going to end in 2040 Believe it or not, this is KPMG. My son used to work for them one of the big three Big four accounting firms. So things are bad, but, uh, a mayor A. Suarez of Miami, He has a proposal. Tingle just went up Lydia's leg to quote the great Chris Matthews, the Ricky Martin of mayors. Uh, Francis Suarez. I think his name is anyway, he said What this is what we should do with regards to Cuba. Go ahead should be being contemplated right now. Is a coalition, a potential military action in Cuba, similar to what has happened in both administrations in both Republican and Democrat administrations. In Republican with Bush and Panama. They depose Noriega and that country have peaceful democracy for decades, and you had interventions by Democratic presidents, you know, taking out Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. It's a sovereign country where they took out a terrorist are probably saved thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of lives. And President Clinton in Kosovo, intervening in a humanitarian issue with airstrikes, so there have been many, many opportunities. What I'm suggesting is that that option is one that has to be explored and cannot be just simply discarded as an option that is not on the table, and there's a variety of ways of military can do it, But that's that's something that needs to be discussed. He wants to bomb Cuba. I mean, that's unbelievable. And, uh, it's a little a little little over the top of that. Remember, we once did this baby. Pigs. They remembered. Well, Remember that little debacle Fidel Castro? John F. Kennedy. What a mess! Bata! Mari! Sorry we're not going to back you troops are not coming to save you. I'm sorry. No sports today Pete Morgan and peel his borders would have sponsored. But of course, baseball returns tonight. Yankees will take on the Red Sox. The Metro in Pittsburgh tomorrow We did lose a former Met and Yankee pitcher dictate. Joe died yesterday. The age of 74. We do have alarming 911 call. From Seattle Seahawks defensive back Richard Sherman will play that in the nine o'clock hour, but that's really it for sports, So we'll just move on. The Bucks tied the sons they did. That's very good. You're right. Milwaukee did win Game four so that NBA finals has been reduced. Bernie's right to the best of three Phoenix and Milwaukee tied at two games apiece. You know how I know that I tuned in for Bill Richards News at 11 o'clock and Mike Brain was still calling the game he was, Yeah. Yeah, And then I turned into Channel four to get their news. They spent the first three minutes on Some a gang member who was tased by police and, uh, enable it turnstile jumper. Three minutes like this was the greatest outrage to happen since George Floyd. I mean, people are getting murdered all over the place Expect anyway, whatever NBC is about to hire Maria Taylor, that ESPN girl that whole fight with Rachel Nichols and they want to get it done now because they want Maria Taylor to work the Olympics. "Then the rest of the movie isn't gonna look as good as it should well dolby vision and hdr ten plus use. What's called dynamic meta data and that specifies the brightest pixel and the brightest frame within each scene can even go down to the frame level so the picture generally looks much better with dolby vision or hdr ten plus so now be getting back to the setting I would start by selecting four. K dolby. Vision assuming that if you watch a piece of content. That is only hdr ten. It'll come through just fine as opposed to selecting hdr four k which may mean. I'm not one hundred percent. Sure about this so it may mean that it gets dolby vision content. It will only look at the bay slayer dolby. Vision is basically constructed with two layers and the base layer is hdr ten and the enhancement layer is all this extra meta data and if you set the apple tv to hdr four k. It may ignore that meta data and only show you the hdr ten base layer. So i would say start by so it to dolby vision for k and it will probably look better user. Sixty four thirty seven asked a great question. Is it smart to buy a harmony remote harmony elite remote now. They're no longer making the remotes but they're going to. They've said they're gonna still add new devices to their database or are there better universal remotes that you could recommend. The answer is no. There are no better universal remotes. That i can recommend i still love the harmony i in fact have been thinking about upgrading harmonies Before they disappear there still at best buy they're still a couple of places You know so. They're going to remain in the in the supply chain a as long as people have product so And my older harmonies only do infrared. Which was fine in the old days. But now streamers like roku and apple tv used our f or maybe even wifi but the harmony remotes. I guess i'm not sure now have to think about that. Due to the new harmony remotes go over wifi at all. I'm not sure about that. I'll have to check but they certainly do our f and roku does rf radiofrequency which means you don't have to point it. You don't need to be in line of sight. So i'm thinking of of upgrading. My harmonies while. I still can so. I think that is a a good thing to do myself scooter. Donald trump is a businessman who is a private businessman have a financial share in. The seminal. isn't without it. i believe so. I think she was his view. Was that He was unable to compete against the indians. Since they were given a lot of tax advantages and so he he went in she was given opportunity. I believe on might have which might have been made possible by the clintons to get involved in the tribal gaming and this was at a time when he was running. Casinos laird sitting correct. Okay so we'll talk to you about the whole business so then after about trump's in how did abbotabad that run afoul of the government. When did he fall out of favor. And why it's a good question so He ended up partnering with a fellow by the name of adam to dan Who was a bankrupt. Disbarred attorney Abramov was fairly shrewd that he had. Good judgment overall. And had he known about academic background he never would have gone into business with him but added. Dan represented that he had sold his his Mattress business for a large sum of money. "Probably Warranted but the louisianans themselves as a people group make up most of anatolia and towards the end of the hittite empire. Lot of kind of words started to creep into hittite. and they're the hittites themselves in their archives. A lot of documents were in louis and late in the louis language. So there's certainly where a lot of loose speakers in anatolia and so then. The question is was louis. Ah its own entity political entity. It could have been the sort of like you know a bunch of different kingdoms that were really necessarily one unit but they would. Maybe come together when when necessary. So that's the main idea with troy though is is that it's essentially the trojan war was the war of atlantis. And the egyptians are retelling the trojan war to greek would solon have completely forgotten about the trojan war. By that time. I mean it's known about it. Yeah i mean you know the some some people are not people eberhard sanger the main guy. Who who is the proponent of theory. He says that. Maybe plato realized that's what was going on. And that's why he stopped writing atlanta. Plato was like oh wait. I'm telling the story of of the battle letroy interesting So another one is bolivia. This is actually interesting for what you guys talking about with. Ben recently developed a guy named jim allen essentially the altiplano is what he's talking about as atlantis. So the this this up here is lake titicaca and then there's this this is not not who i think is what it's called but essentially the idea is at one point. This whole area was flooded but it was like this would be the plane. And then atlanta's here. I do see sort of a circular structure down there in the southern part of the The yellow highlighted area. That was the plane that that would have been too big but there is the structure here which is not a full circle but he thinks it. It's it's got circular elements to it and then then this whole other half seems to have been like a. Oh i don't know there's this element here which is kind of circular. And it's over here. Proportionally would have been about the size of atlanta's compared to this plane. The problem with this one is it. It's the opposite of being under the ocean. It's like thirteen thousand feet above sea level. Yeah does say it does say that the mountains. You're fine they're fighting. He's finding the grid pattern and the i'm sorry what was like. Oh well i was just saying that it does say that the mountains rose just like precipitously all so that would be this surrounding all sides by mountains. There's the and here. He doesn't find just rocks but he finds it in like actual cut building stones in red white and black beautiful the cross hatch canals which appear to still be there very cool interesting one. I mean the the problem is how would you get a navy from bolivia to athens locks lots of locks. Soon when you go through the amazon or would you go all the way around south america..

Ready For Takeoff - Turn Your Aviation Passion Into A Career
How Airline Pilot Jim Allen Got His Aviation Start In The Navy
"Tell us how you got your start in aviation a pay I grew up as an air. Force brat flu beef forty seven feet fifty twos in a one So i was always excited about aviation from that. My dad passed away when i was a teenager so I think that kind of cemented the hero worship for for my dad. You know in those days. And i just you know as always we we moved from you know we were on the air force base for a while we lived in iowa and then kansas after my dad passed away to live where my mom's parents were in a big open skies. And you're always looking up to see what was going on up there because you know. I was just kind of bored in small town. Kansas and My uncle taught me how to fly. When i was nineteen years old Down in rockport texas. What kind of airplane of piper warrior and I just you know even though it was a little stressful because he was kind of a screamer why it was it was i love going flying solo but when he was in the airplane i was just a little bit stressed out but i still have his His voice in the site you know in in my ear every time i'm not lined up for the centerline of it in even in a seven thirty seven. Now it's get get lined up with. What's wrong with you that just use a spring but it was i'm just curious You have a relative teaching to fly when you're not in the airplane. What was your relationship with him like. Yeah so i was staying in his In his house and that was it was just. It was a little stressful. But i in there were. There were times where he was like these. You really want to do this one. She just leave and things like that but when it was all said and done he was really proud. And i was proud and But i was his first and last student because nobody else wanted to deal with them. I guess but he. He came to my winging ceremony when i became a pilot And he was just proud a you know it is just the way life is. Sometimes you know it's not always good. It's not always bad. There's just getting bad mixed in but But i learned a lot. You know and i and i got the i got the license in like fifty five hours. I was there for two months from from zero to two private pilot just in the summer of nineteen eighty five. So that's the way to do a t to go. Full bore fly every day. If you can and get it out of the way right. Yeah and i saw that with the students that i flew with later so a way You go to college. I went to college at the university. Kansas and i was living in kansas can think. And why. why am i here in the first place. That's my mom's hometown. But i found out that the university of kansas was ranked in the top ten for aerospace engineering. And i was like well. That's pretty cool. You know so. That's that's what i wanted to learn. It was a tough program. But i got through it Actually with honors But i decided to join nato. otc The air force at the time was They weren't offering pilot slots Two people who were getting scholarships Be an engineer for the air force. And then you would compete for a scholarship later in a it just seemed a little too much ambiguity. Matt's of navy was saying we'll we'll give scholarship. You can figure out if you're gonna be a pilot toward the end of the program in You know it's needs of the navy. And all that kind of stuff so so turned out. When i got selected if i they told me i was going to be a pilot and then like they. You know four weeks later. I haven't graduated yet. They said well. We're sorry that we were badly in the back sears. Nfo's nfl stance from naval flight. Officer so i you know. Tail between my legs went down to pensacola tried to figure out a way to become a pilot and they said no dice Were just short on. Nfo's and that's in. You have a minute refractory error in your left dive. It's keeping you from minnesota. But i was twenty twenty in gotten in like six months before six months after they probably would let me go to the pilot program but at the time they just they were starving for back.
