Anderson Cooper compares Trump to an 'obese turtle' following White House press conference
"Hear a little bit from some of the folks at CNN because They had a big problem with Donald Trump in that press conference yesterday, and hopefully you heard it here at 93 WNBC listen to Anderson Cooper after the president's speech that is the president of United States that is the most powerful person in the world and we see him. Like an obese turtle on his back, flailing in the hot thing, realizing his time is over. Okay, an obese turtle flailing in the hot sun. Now before the speech, you had Jim Acosta doing his usual monologue. The president, I suspect is very frustrated about this. We've been seeing the tweets summon all caps all day long. Some being labeled by Twitter is being false and misleading on the president, You know, he hates that He wants to get around that coming out to the podium and having us take this on live television. Gives him a way of getting around those those types of restrictions. And so I suppose, in addition to the presidential seal being slapped on that lectern behind me, they're probably ought to be a surgeon general Warning what you're about to hear from the President, United States. May not be in line with the facts may be hazardous to your democracy may be hazardous to the counting of the votes. I suspect that you know, when the president comes out here, we're going to see a fair amount of bending of the truth. And I just think we just all have to be prepared for that. You know, we can tiptoe through the tulips and dance around the truth here, Anderson We're going to say, Well, we've we've seen over the last four years. This president will lie and lie and lie purposes and I suspect we're going to be seeing more of that when he comes out here.
Fauci disagrees with Trump on coronavirus
"The United States has not rounded the corner that is from Dr Anthony Fauci. The Nation's top infectious disease expert delivering a blunt specifically worded rebuttal to the president to, of course, Said said the other day that the US is rounding the corner on the pandemic. I'm sorry but I have to disagree with that because if you look at the thing that you just mentioned the Statistics Andrea. The. Disturbing. Disturbing. The US Steph told you shy of two hundred, thousand number of new cases hovering around forty, thousand, a day and an influential model. At the White House sites all the time predicts the death toll will more than double by the end of the year. Four hundred thousand people dead by the end of December, and yet trump's behavior continues to scorn mask-wearing or social distancing his rally yesterday you see it three thousand supporters more than that. Actually packing an airport hangar in Michigan without masks without social distancing. And and you might say why why are they doing that? It is clear. They are following the leader the person that they are there to support. They are following the president just listen to them and then listen to the president. Care for it. It's that simple. I don't see it for myself. I am young and likable are year are not young. People are very strong. It gets this horrible disease. Temperature taken already, and I'm not saying not necessarily here. Everybody's been tested and I've been tested a hard time understanding people when they. So that's why I don't wear. You can hear me right now I can hear you you're going to have to take. You can take it off your your health how many your wet Well if you don't take it off your very muffled. Those trump supporters Jim Acosta speaking to them getting those very powerful Soundbites Jeremy Diamond is out front and Jeremy You know very strong words from Dr Voucher tonight specifically using the words rounding the corner. No, we're not right. Exact words the president used to rebut his claim. Yeah, no questionnaire in Doctor FAUCI typically tries to avoid directly contradicting the president's or directly confronting and putting himself in opposition to the president, and it tends to happen quite a bit simply by the fact that the president often downplayed the threat of this virus in Dr, Fauci is stating the facts, but it is notable to see dumpster here directly contradicting the president saying, I have to disagree with him on that and he does because ultimately Dr Foudy does rely on. The facts you relies on the science and the facts and the science show that the president by any metric you consider is wrong when he says that the United States is rounding the corner on this and of course, we started this week Erin with the revelation that the president had intentionally misled the American public about the deadliness of virus. He said that he likes to downplay it, and what's remarkable is that we are finishing this week with the president continuing to do. Exactly that because the president is saying that we around the corner, he is saying that the numbers of corona virus cases are plummeting. When in fact we know that we are at a plateau of nearly forty thousand cases nearly a thousand deaths per day and Dr found she is warning about a potentially difficult fall and winter, and of course, it's also remarkable when you see this rally that the president is holding three thousand more than three thousand people huddled together very few. Of them wearing masks and obviously it's coming from the fact that the president in his rhetoric has really downplayed those things. Yes he has acknowledged in in recent weeks. That mask wearing is important. He is called a patriotic, but he is still not modeling that public health behavior, and of course, for months on end, the president downplayed some of those significant public health safety measures and as you just showed in that video, the president's words. So often being mimicked by his own supporters. Jeremy Thank you very much earlier. We spoke to David Plyler these local Republican official in North Carolina and he spoke out this week urging president trump to wear a mask during his rally in that state the state by the way I wanna make it clear has a mask mandate. So we asked him why why does he feel the president should wear a mask and here's what he said. The president is a citizen of the United, States Nettie wants North Carolina. is asked to voluntarily do that not is a matter of health alone. But in the leaders situation, it allows the leader to be seen by people he or she represents and they generally hopefully would follow suit as an elected official. I've been asked to look out for the safety and health of our community, and that's exactly what I was doing. So. Yeah. Know that's just the reality right? That's how it should be but this has become political and plyler happens to be Republican. So he got some feedback on his comment about the president. Here's what he told us about. Well I got backlash from everybody they didn't call it say I'm a Republican or Democrat. I hadn't felt on for south. Carolina. Who taught me a cuss words? A sailor has never heard before. We also ask piler why he felt the need to speak out right? Why? Why did he do it? He could have just been quiet and just rolled his eyes and been angry about it but he didn't he spoke out and he said that mash to be worn, the president should wear one. Why do you do that? It's something we have to do. No chores. And this is not the first time that plague of this time has hit this country nor will it be the last I'm sorry to say in we've had plagued across the United States. We've had things in Europe. We've had him an England China just goes around the world I just hope we can get out of this. So. reasonable. So calm collected. I want to go now to Dr Jonathan Reiner Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab at George Washington University Hospital who else would advise the white? House. Medical team under President George. W.. Bush. So you heard Dave plyler right I mean it just just just so reasonable. So clear. And and he wants the president's followers to to wear masks wants the president to wear masks you heard them. They they they scorn it. They disdain it. It comes from the top. Do you think it's possible to pandemic would be a lot less worse if the president had from day one said where mask. I think if the president had said from day one everyone is wearing a mask. We'd have got forty five thousand deaths in this country and I say that because that's extrapolating German experience they've had a middle of the road haven't been the best. They haven't been the worst they been okay in their pandemic response. And they've had about ten thousand deaths. We have four times the population of Germany. We'd have about forty, five, thousand deaths in this country. So about one hundred, fifty, thousand people would be alive if you WANNA think about why we still have forty thousand cases day and a thousand deaths today in this country is because. We're still talking about masks. It's so basic. It just seems so nefarious now that we've heard the president. Really articulately express how dangerous this virus was on February seven. He knew the route he knew he knew how lethal the virus was. He knew that this was ACM dramatic people. He understood yet he decided not to protect the people. It was a conscious decision not to protect the people even now even today. Do you think his supporters would go and be unmasked. If they knew what he knew you think Herman Cain would have gone to Tulsa. Sit there shoulder shoulder without a mask knowing what the president knew. So so you know you Dr. Fouled. She the president said that we were rounding the corner the latest in his many salvoes sang right it's going away. But that's what you just said. Doctor felt she came out today and we're not rounding the corner, right? I mean he didn't. He didn't talk around it or generally obliquely rebutted he rebutted it using word for word because he felt it was important and then he went on to say this. When you're in the middle of a pin damage and you're trying hard to address all the appropriate issues, it is truly a waste of time. The bunk nonsense but unfortunately, we had to do that. Frustration is coming through in a way I haven't seen it before. I admire the man. So much I'm he is a brilliant scientist who's devoted his life to protecting America from all kinds of horrible pathogens. And he still added and he he he he does not get discouraged. Look. It is a waste of time for him to have to deal with some this nonsense, but it's necessary. He has to debunk we rely on him. If only the the White House brought him out to these press events and had an let the press on Moss as can questions wouldn't that be refreshing? I'm grateful for him everyday
Officials battle online misinformation along with wildfires
"Are these historically large wildfires continue to rage out west fifteen people have already died a whopping four million acres already devastated across California as well as Oregon where you can see right here why the mayor there declared a state of emergency, the governor also publicly pleading. For the trump administration to support its governmental emergency response officials on the ground, say Donald trump failing them through fashion. Some critics compare his sort of public denial of even admitting what's going on with the wildfires that posture to of course, is deceitful approach to cove it. Who reports today are the things are even worse than all of that because right wing conspiracy theories supported publicly by Donald, trump are leading to dangerous activity. Again, we're living in a time where misinformation can be dangerous to your health and officials are warning. They're getting flooded with false phone calls fanned by Q. Not which incorrectly try to blame the fires on trump's perceived opponents. Translation what happens on facebook doesn't always stay on facebook a real world emergency political propaganda is making it harder for these firefighters to get the real information warnings they need as they go out and do their work and risk their lives. That's why sheriff's departments are pleading with people with messages like this just stop spreading rumors stop calling nine one one with political pranks. They say it has now gotten to the point where it is hampering their bandwidth to respond to the fires in real emergencies. It's twenty twenty. So sometimes, we have to state the obvious around here. Do not call nine, one one with Q. Non trumpy fake news propaganda. You do have the right to say whatever you want. Typing it up on the Internet you do not have the right to deceitfully thwart firefighting in the middle of this very real crisis for those calling from the West Coast some of these calls have been traced. If you need to think about it like this. Misinformation is expensive in the house you save could be your own. As mentioned, we're thrilled to have married trump live in the hour but I want to begin with some of our analysts, Jason, Johnson professor of politics at Morgan, State University and Katty Kay Washington anchor for BBC News. Good evening to both you. Evening Jason There's much talk about misinformation and people don't like lying even when it's just verbal if you want to be that specific. But given these twin crises, your view of the cost of this kind of misinformation. Rex It's massive. I'm in California right now and the difficulty the difficulty that local officials are having in managing people when it comes to these wall fires is immense and is partially because accused on, it's partially because the president basically sort of thumbs his nose that these sorts of Issues v rate of destruction that is happening out here. Basically, the size of central park is being burned every other day in northern California Oregon Central Park. Every other day is being burned devastated. varies a haze over the sky on a regular basis at the bottom. Of A pool, you can see ash settling after every single night. So the idea that people are wasting public resources with crazy conspiracy theories because they think that the fires were created by you know five G. or invading Muslims or George Soros doesn't help the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of people were either going to be out of their homes or not able to stay safely in their homes. During the time, we have a pandemic where rescuing people in putting them into shelters is all the more difficult. So yeah, this is propaganda that's Live when trump lies people are dying. Well. Caddy at the White House has often tried to reposition the Cova conversation in the election as well. This hit everywhere. This is global thing. it seems that this week there is a rightful focus and scrutiny on the president's leadership on his honesty on his approach, which is relevant. As, you go into election about who you want to continue to deal with this crisis or do you want to change the commander in chief? Yell the the virus has hit everywhere but my fourteen year old daughter is an online schooling here in Washington. Her friend in France in class. A. Friend in London is in class her friend in China is in plus her friend in Senegal. is in class and a friend in Germany is in class they're all going to school. And the reason they're going to school is because those countries have handled this better. So that's a direct comparison and in a globalised world. Our children here in the United States make no mistake about it that losing out because those other kids are in class going to school at advancing while orchids not advancing. So we're kicking this down to the next generation as well but. We elect leaders to be able to walk and Chew Gum at the same time. It is totally possible that you can give people a facts that you can trust the American people with the facts of something it is at also be inspirational and motivational and lift them up with a plan and show leadership. Those two things are not mutually exclusive and I think that's what the president is mistaking when he says, he didn't want people to panic and so he downplayed the virus. And gatty talk about how that stacks up in a global context that I think is very interesting to remember, and then how people are receiving these messages reporter. Jim Acosta spoke. To some people going to the trump rally take a look. Our about him because there's no. It's a it's a fake pandemic created to destroy the United. States of America. The president said the Bob Woodward there is a virus but corona virus that it is devil that's his opinion. Chatty. Where do you start i? Mean you stop by asking all of our leaders to come out with consistent clear accurate honest messaging when I really felt for Anthony. FAUCI. In that interview because I've interviewed g and he is so careful not to wade into political waters where there's going to be a difference between him and the president because he said that will be the only story and he is trying to get out the public health story doesn't WANNA make it a political story about. A disagreement he clearly feels now he has to set a Mauka. He has to wait into the politics of this and say, no when the President says, we are turning a corner. We're not actually turney. We're in this for the long haul because when the president says, we're turning a corner when he says, we're about to get over this or that is magically going to disappear what happens that guy doesn't wear a mosque when he attends a rally because he thinks it's not there. That's the risk. Door Jason. Trump can say you know he can see the light at the end of the tunnel. All we once it's a train right it's a train coming at us. We are about to head to fall which is flu season. This is a time where you have kids going back to school but you have people who have to shelter in place more because it's cold you can't eat outside and that makes us Much more difficult and I think are the real danger here is that as we recognize that the president is grotesquely incompetent, right easies driven by sort of racial malice and paying off his friends and everything else like that. At the base of all of this, we cannot forget to key things. One that the president is still trying to steal the election with the post office that you still have. Right. Wing Supreme. Courts in Wisconsin right now that are trying to people get absentee ballots. It's you have the president, the Republican Party suing in Iowa to prevent people from getting their absentee ballots that he's still trying to steal the election at the same time that you have literally millions of. Americans. Now, out of work who be out of their homes who are being evicted, which will make it more difficult for them to. Actually vote. So as much as the president is, is a horrible human being and trying to bankrupt this country and pay off his friends and stay in office. He is also doing things isn't competence has disrupted the ability of regular people remove him from office in a democratic way. We can't ever lose sight that because we can't get rid of him everything that's happening. Now we'll be ten times worse by nature.
Trump Vows to Issue Executive Orders if Coronavirus Relief Talks Collapse
"Breaking news on the economic front the White House and Democrats say talks of the economic stimulus package they have hit a wall president trump is threatening to take executive action on his own. Let's get details on that from our chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta. Americans they are in desperate economic pain right now but stimulus talks seem to be going nowhere right now what's the latest? Well, that's right. Wolf with negotiations falling apart over Corona Virus Relief Bill White House officials say president trump is now expected to take some kind of executive action to provide financial support to Americans who are struggling to find work during this pandemic the executive orders are likely to include some kind of effort to provide enhanced unemployment benefits as well as some kind of. Action on suspending evictions from rental homes. There may be some other proposals in the mix, and in the meantime, we should point out the president just hinted at the path ahead in the last hour tweeting, we're going a different way that tweet coming from the president in just the last hour, and in the meantime administration officials are throwing cold water on the president's gold having corona virus vaccine ready by election day one senior administration official told me earlier today that timeline is highly unlikely. President trump's claim that a corona virus vaccine could be ready by election day is receiving an injection of reality as top administration health officials are saying, don't bet on it. Then November third. Oh I. Think I think in some cases. Yes. Possible before. But right around that time, a senior administration official told CNN that timeline is just not realistic saying it's quote metaphysically possible but highly unlikely and Corona Virus Taskforce Dr Anthony Fauci said. May Have to wait until November or December just to find out of a vaccine really works adding maybe we'll get an answer as early as October but I doubt it trying to put a finer prediction on the timetable right now I don't think any of us have enough information yet to know how that's going to shake out. The pandemic Bennett economy recovered somewhat in July with the unemployment rate falling to just above ten percent with one point eight million jobs added even with so many Americans still out of work congressional Democrats and White House officials have been at odds all week over Corona Virus Relief Bill with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, pointing the finger at top aides to the president. Now, that's been in the White House when the president's land that table and walked out that's really what Mr. Meadows. Did I on the table can't shoot staff Mark Meadows Jabbing right back I think for those that are suffering they. They should be asking the Democrats in the House and the Senate why why have you failed to meet the needs that we have so rightly expressed without a deal the White House is signaling Mr Trump will take executive action that legal drafting is complete. We've had this intense discussions about this. In the last several days, I don't WanNa make predictions. Democrats are also keeping an eye on election day accusing the administration of making changes to the nation's postal system that could slow down mayland balloting in a letter, the Postal Service Inspector General, a group of Democratic senators wrote the changes appear to pose a potential threat to mail in ballots and the twenty twenty general election President Likes Mail in voting in Florida but not another states like Nevada Florida's got a great Republican governor and it had a great Republican. Got Run to scientists Rick Scott, the president is seizing on comments made by Joe Biden, you seem to say African Americans are less diverse and their political views Latino voters unlike the African American community notable exceptions. The Latino community is incredibly diverse community. With, incredibly different attitudes about different things Biden try to clean that up tweeting in no way. Did I mean to suggest the African American community is a monolith not by identity not on issues not at all Mr Trump, tweeted biden is no longer worthy of the black vote I don't know what's going on with them, but it was very insulting. The president's attack on Biden are tricky for Mr Trump, who has a long track record of racially offensive behavior including sharing this video, featuring a supporter shouting white power. Now the US intelligence community issued a startling statement on election security today as the US closing in on the fall campaign. In that statement intelligence officials warn Russia is trying to damage from where Vice President Joe Biden. His chances to win the white. House the statement also from the intelligence community says, she prefers that president trump fail in his bid for a second term. These warnings from intelligence officials come at a critical time for American voters who were largely unaware that. The Russians were interfering with the election for years ago this time the voters know all too. Well, what could
Fauci Says US Death Toll Is Likely Higher
"The Corona Virus death-toll here in the United States is down more than eighty. Three thousand people almost one point four million cases. Globally there are no more than four point three million cases and almost three hundred thousand deaths but tonight sources telling CNN that the trump administration that serious senior trump administration officials are questioning the accuracy of the death toll and whether the number is actually being inflated just yesterday on the other hand Dr Anthony Fauci told US lawmakers. The death toll is almost certainly higher higher. What's being reported but this coming Sunday almost all U s states will be reopened at least to some extent at the same time. Washington D. C. is among jurisdictions extending. Stay at home. Orders and states including South Dakota Delaware and Arkansas are serious are seeing serious corona virus cases right now on the rise us go straight to the White House right now. Our chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta. Joining US JIM. A grim new death toll and frightening new projections but the president and his team at least some members of his team don't necessarily believe all the numbers that's right well. The tug of war has begun inside the trump administration over whether the US is over counting the number of dead from the corona virus. Well aware that the president's reelection prospects are tied to his handling of the pandemic pro trump forces are attacking. Dr Anthony Fauci. Who has advocated caution in confronting the virus in control of the corona virus? Message coming from the White House. President trump is giving the administration pat on the back for the US response to the pandemic with the enormous weight of the pandemic hanging over the White House. Sources Tell C. N. Administration officials are questioning the accuracy of the corona virus death toll in the US and whether the number of dead is being over counted but that would fly in the face of testimony from top administration health expert. Dr Anthony Found. She who said deaths are likely being undercounted as some residents and hard hit New York died at home and we're never counted as cove in one thousand nine fatalities so direct. Answer to your question. I think you are correct at the number is likely higher. I don't know exactly. What was that tire? But almost certainly is higher. The president suggested. New York's number of dead was too high last month. I see this morning. Where New York edit three thousand deaths because they died and then now saying rather than it was a heart attack? They're saying it was a heart attack caused by this trump allies on Fox News zeroed in on found she. As an obstacle to reopening the country blasting the doctors cautious approach to the pandemic. Is this the Guy? You want to Chore Chart The Future Of the country. Maybe not this is a very serious matter. The decisions were making right now twenty. She has not been elected to anything to be very blonde. Is the face of this failed administrative leave a question? The entire premise of this with the chief. Buffoon of the professional has Dr Anthony. Fauci also seems to favor with the Democrats want and that is massive restrictions with no end in sight with all due respect to DR FAO cheese expertise. No-one elected him to anything. But there's one big problem for the White House a CNN poll found a solid majority of Americans trust Not The president when it comes to the pandemic
Trump says Roger Stone has 'very good chance of exoneration' hours after sentencing
"Get some more and larger stones set and see our senior justice. Evan Perez is here our crime and justice. Chiba Polka. Pez is also working the story for Evan. You're inside the courtroom when you heard Judge Amy. Berman Jackson read out her decision. It was a dramatic moment. It was it was over an hour where she was essentially going through methodically. The aspects of this case including some of the arguments made by Roger Stone by the president and some of his allies that Roger Stone was being targeted for some For for his First Amendment right to stand up for president trump that he was essentially being targeted for being a political trickster. She says none of those things are true. I'll read you just a part of her remarks during the sentencing. Today she says quote stone wasn't obstructing not some secret anti-trump Cabal but he lied to Congress. You'll remember that. He was convicted of lying to Congress during testimony to the House. A House of Representatives as well as witness tampering threatening one of the witnesses in this in this case and so she took all of this on. She talked a little bit about some of his Some of his emails some of the threats that he made to Randy critical one of his associates And during that time well if we were all watching Roger Stone and he and he behaved himself mostly in court but during that time as she read some of his obscene emails. You can see him turnaround smirk and look at their two rows of his followers inside the courtroom today She also took to con the issue of of the politics. That are play in this case. she says quote he was Roger. Stone says he was not prosecuted as some have claimed for standing up for the president he was prosecuted for covering up for the president. One of the things we were watching today to wolf was the prosecution. John Crabs stood up today and essentially walked back to the original sentencing memo the recommendation that was made for seventy two seven seven to nine years From the prosecution team which resigned which quit the case in the middle of controversy over over President Trump's interference in his and the prosecutors the prosecutors stood up and he said he apologized for all the drama that happened in the past week wolf and he said that the original sentencing memo was essentially submitted. In good faith it was exactly according to Justice Department policy and it was within the guidelines that are established is interesting because we know the president. He clearly tried to influence the outcome of this trial from the very beginning. And the judge Amy Berman Jackson. She addressed that specifically. She did and it's not just the outcome of this trial. Let's the entire the entire Muller investigation where you see. The president has has inserted himself tweeting. It's talking about it at campaign rallies publicly talking about and the judge really today. That's what some of this was about. She wanted to address some of the influence and also the attempted influence and also the prosecutors who now have taken over this case day to said that the Department of Justice is. There's no political interference you know we're here to be fair and the judges continued. I mean we saw her going. After Roger Stone we saw her in some ways going after the president and then taking on the whole the political drama surrounding this case and what she said and this judge docs and she said the dismay and disgust at any attempt to interfere with the efforts of prosecutors and members of the JUDICIARY TO FULFIL. Their duty should transcend. Party this is a big moment in the sentencing. This was the overall I should say theme. I felt throughout her sensing proceeding was a larger message. Here because judiciary is under attack and this was a moment in time for the judge to defend the judiciary defend other judges and defend the system. Which is really under attack right continues to be under attack by the president. Today he railed against what's going on in the problem. Pardon you certainly. Did our guys stick around Evan and Shimon reporting for now. Let's go to the White House. Our chief White House correspondent Jim. Acosta is also working the story for a strip. The president was quick to speak out about Roger Stone's sentencing. That's right well. The president responded to speculation that he is about to pardon Roger Stone. The president suggested he will wait and see how the appeals process plays out for his former advisor saying he hopes stone is exonerated and while the president didn't offer stone at immediate. Pardon he didn't exactly close the door on that possibility either. President trump threw his support behind his convicted former adviser. Roger Stone but stopped short of offering a pardon to the dirty trickster just hours after he was sentenced in federal court. I'm not GONNA do anything. In terms of the great powers bestowed upon a president of the United States. I want the process to play out. I think that's the best thing to do. Because I'd love to see Roger Exonerated and I'd love to see it happen because I personally think. He was treated very unfairly and an event honoring rehabilitated prisoners. In Las Vegas. The president ripped into the jury forewoman at the stone trial accusing her of being an anti-trump activist that was in response to her facebook. Post defending the prosecutors in the stone case so if this woman was tainted I hope the judge will find that you was tainted. And if she isn't tainted that will be fine to now. You would know about a bad jury. Anybody here know about that now. The president question. How could be sentenced to forty months in prison in part for lying to Congress but MR trump unleashed a flat out falsehood of his own when he said stone was not involved with this campaign in Twenty fifteen? The trump campaign said it fired stone. Roger was never involved in the trump campaign for president. He wasn't involved early on long before he announced he may have done a little consulting work or something but he was not involved when I ran for president. And he's a person who again he knows. A lot of people having to do with politics. Stone is now part of a growing group of trump associates sentenced or awaiting prison sentences. Democrats worried the president is floating the idea of parts to try to keep those associates quiet while I think that he's dangled the pardon Often with Mrs with regard to Mr Stone and Mr Flynn in part to In my opinion to signal to them that if they stay on the team that they don't reveal further information that they might possess about the president that they'll be taken care of the judge overseeing stones trial took a jab at Mr Trump at one point sang at the former trump campaign adviser sentencing that he was prosecuted for covering up for the president. Mr Trump had been teasing the possibility of a stone. Pardon tweeting video of Fox host calling for leniency. The whole thing is enough to shake your faith in our justice system. Unfortunately president trump could end this tragedy travesty in an instant with pardon and there are indications tonight that he will do that. Trump allies are also reminding the president he has the power to pardon stone with GOP. Senator Lindsey Graham tweeting under our system of justice. President trump has all the legal authority in the world to review this case and terms of commuting the sentence or partying Mr Stone for the underlying offense as the attacks on the four women in the stone. Trial a fellow juror. In the case said the president and the Attorney General are doing damage to the Justice System. Big Cast doubt on the the bedrock of the equal administration of Justice. That is just so so important to our country I think he damages our democracy by attacking this way and I wish he would stop now as for a pardon for Roger. Stone trump
Giuliani associate Parnas willing to testify in impeachment proceedings
"As associated of the president's lawyer Rudy. Giuliani is now directly implicating. Mr Trump in the Ukraine crane scandal. Our chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta. Joining US Jim Tonight. The president is team they are responding. That's right wolf and despite a growing number of photos and even video showing the two men together. President trump kept repeating himself over and over the dozen know Rudy. Giuliani associate left. The White House is attacking. Parner saying he cannot be trusted in the Oval Office. The president suggested party who has been indicted is simply trying to cut her better deal for himself in response to the president's comments an attorney for par just a short while ago tweeted out a video of his client with Mr Trump you over with the administration's alleged dirt for dollar scheme heading to trial in the Senate. The president is Sounding angry and firing back at left Parnis who is pointing the finger at Mr Trump in Ukraine. Scandal this president. What is your response to live partners? Who says your efforts? It's in Ukraine. Were all about twenty twenty. I don't know parse other than I guess they had pictures taken which do thousands of people that know nothing about him. He's trying they probably make a deal for president insisted. He's only posed for photos with the indicted associated. Rudy Giuliani. And nothing more. Mr Trump did not respond to parnassus claim that multiple officials in the administration knew about the alleged pressure campaign for information on Joe Biden telling CNN at one point to be quiet so when he says Mulvaney knew about the bold new about this quiet you just have to take a look at the pictures you just have to take a look at the polls. You see anybody's help. I don't need the help of a demand that I never met before I welcome him to say that even more every time. He says they'll show them another picture. He's lying he's lying in an interview with C. N. N.'s Anderson Kupa partners is offering to do more than just produce more photos standing with the president saying he's willing to testify on Capitol Hill. How you personally viewed it? This is about twenty twenty to help him get the next four years those away. Everybody viewed that I mean there was that was the most important thing for him to stay out for another four years and keep the fight going. I mean there was no other reason for doing it. President also maintained. He didn't know anything about a letter written by his personal attorney. Rudy Giuliani to the leader of Ukraine requesting. The meeting a letter that claim to have Mr Trump's consent I didn't know about a specific ladder. But if he wrote a letter wouldn't have been a big deal house speaker. Nancy Pelosi blasted Republicans. Who are resisting assistant? Calls from. Democrats to hear from witnesses like parties and former National Security Adviser John Bolton during Mr Trump's trial in the Senate fair afraid of the truth. They don't WanNa see documents connect. They don't want to hear from eye-witnesses President's defenders say parnes doesn't deserve the attention he's getting. This man lacks credibility one more piece of damaging information surfaced purpose as the federal watchdog. The Government Accountability Office found. The White House broke the law. In Withholding Aid Ukraine saying a statement faithful execution of the law does not permit. The the president is substitute is on policy priorities for those that Congress has enacted into law. And I've been here since the time of president four so I have never ever seen a report like this objective so strongly the actions of a president now. We also attempted to ask about former Ukrainian ambassador. Maria Vich and whether there was an effort to intimidate or or conduct surveillance on her but the president did not respond to those questions as age shouted at us to leave the Oval Office. At the moment. The President says he is still heading to the Global Economic Forum. Malvo's next week a trip that would take him far away from the impeachment trial that will be unfolding next week in the Senate at least temporarily president guests that the trial would go very quickly but as the White House snows and the president knows all too. Well there's no guarantee of that
Dissecting Trump's Twitter 'Diplomacy'
"Their Israeli for better unusually for worse no more enthusiastic proponent of twitter diplomacy in US President Donald Trump joining us now to dissect a representative few of trump's interestingly punctuated blurts. Is Brian Close political scientist. I author and Washington Post columnist by way of imbuing trump's tweets with a finesse. The ill deserve. They are read by foreign desk producer. You'll engulf on any and all grammatical infelicitous of the fault of the author not the narrator September fifteenth two thousand nineteen mystery missiles target. Saudi oilfields Saudi Arabia. Oil Supply was attacked. There's reason to believe that we know the culprit are locked and loaded depending on verification but are waiting to hear from the kingdom as to who they believe was the cause of this attack and under what terms we would proceed. This is amazing tweet because this is the second time that Donald Trump has issues locked and loaded. The first was when he was saying that he was about to attack North Korea. And it just shows you know the twitter diplomacy made on the fly where nobody believes what trump obsess anymore. You know that He. He is a saying who's behind the attack. People are questioning that and then you have. This claim that he's about to attack them which people again are questioning with good reason that his twitter threats are increasingly erratic and also unfounded and never backed up October. First two thousand seventeen reaching out to Kim Kim Jong UN being nasty Rotman hasn't worked in twenty five years. Why would it work now? Clinton failed. Bush failed and Obama failed. I won't fail. I love this tweet. For several reasons I is that he's has been nice to rocket man hasn't worked in twenty five years. Kim Jung took office in two thousand eleven. So penalized him when he was a child probably wasn't going to be a very fruitful way of conducting diplomacy anyway Clinton and Bush of course did not even deal with Kim Jong into any point and then the second layer of this of course is saying that being nice to him hasn't worked it won't work now. Well trump said that he was in love with Kim Jong Hoon after this tweet so I would classify that as being nice and then finally. I won't fail well. I mean what's happened. Since trump's multiple summits with Kim Jong is that Kim has gotten a massive boost international national profile and legitimacy by meeting with President without any preconditions and has simaltaneously ramped up the missile program and the nuclear capability which is the only point of involving involving Kim Jong UN and diplomacy so there are many many problems that tweets but my favorite one is the idea that trying to have diplomatic relations with a three year. Old Somehow didn't work. July thirtieth two thousand nineteen trade wars are good apparently and easy to win. China is doing very badly worst year in twenty seven was supposed supposed to start buying our agricultural product now no signs that they are doing so that is the problem with China they just don't come through. Our economy has become much much larger than the Chinese economy is last three years. Where do you start with the stuff of it? The idea that the US economy has eclipsed the Chinese economy in the last three years because because of trump is an amazing claim. And then the other thing. That's sort of unspoken this tweet but if you know trump's tweets really jumps out to you is the number of times that he contradicts himself so he constantly says things on twitter like China has just announced that they are going to be buying massive amounts of soybean from a great Patriot farmers and then a week or two who later. He has this tweet where he says. Effectively they're not actually doing it and then he'll come back and make the same claim again and so it's this sort of whiplash that twitter allows him to get away with because his base. Here's this they think okay China's now going to buy some soybeans well. The people in his twitter base are not the people who are actually selling soybeans. So they don't know if it's happened and they believe him and he can get away with it and this is where I think. Twitter diplomacy also bleeds into domestic politics. Where you end up having a lack lack of accountability because you can just shoot off a claim everybody moves on and then it's like it never happened when it's false? I think that the trade war stuff though is also indicative of how miscalculation can be very dangerous because China is actually reading these tweets trying to make not just sense of them but make policy based on them and they have no idea what it means. I mean it's riddled with Typos and grammatical errors. And then you know. They're they're scratching their their chins sort of saying will two weeks ago. He seemed to be happy with President. Then she now he's not and this causes again. Miscalculation which is I think the name of the game for twitter diplomacy July eighth two thousand nineteen some thoughts on Brexit and on the. UK's outgoing going. I'm blessed to the. US have been very critical about the way the UK and Prime Minister Theresa May Handle Brexit. What a mess? She and her representatives have created. I told her how it should be done but she decided to go another way. I didn't know the ambassador but he's not liked or well within the US we will no longer deal with him. The good news for the wonderful United Kingdom is that they will soon have a new prime minister. While I thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent state visit last month it was the queen who I was most impressed with so this tweet I think unveil some of the other problems with twitter when it comes to diplomacy and that is that statements of national importance is can be made without vetting. You know if there was actually communicate from the White House in the past this would have gone through a series of different advisors it would have been checked and the first instance in which trump trump tweeted about theresa. May He misspelled her name and accidentally tagged somebody with I believe one hundred sixty twitter followers. So you know. It's not exactly a crack team at the White House when it comes comes to twitter but then beyond this when he says she didn't go the way that I said what he's actually talking about according to the UK government is his suggestions that she sued the the European European Union as a way to solve brexit which his maybe it's ludicrous it's idiocy it's not going to work and then you have sort of the basic ignorance that comes out of these types of tweets. Were win actually. Trump arrives in the UK and gets pressed on various tweets though ask him questions and the followup about say is the NHS on the table the National Health Service on table in trade negotiations and he doesn't know what it is and this is again. You know this is the problem when you can make a statement you interfere in the affairs or politics of an allied country country and have no idea what. You're talking about October sixteenth two thousand eighteen taking Saudi Arabia's word for it just spoke with the Grand Prince of Saudi Arabia who totally denied any knowledge of what took place in their Turkish consulate. He was with Secretary of State. Mike Pompeo during the call and told me that he has already started and will rapidly. Expand fanned a full and complete investigation into this matter. Answers will be forthcoming shortly. This is of course about Jamal Kashogi who's a fellow columnists the Washington Post just before he was murdered and dismembered by the Saudi government which then led to a series of attempted cover ups by the Saudi government's with trump's help where he tried to sweep it under the rug. And and say you know they don't know anything about it and provide political cover to the Saudis and I think you know. This is the dark side of twitter where you can very quickly spread. What is clearly misinformation in pursuit of diplomatic relationship where trump clearly values for a variety of reasons whether it's strategic reasons or his financial conflicts of interest with the Saudi Kingdom? And you know a different president a pre twitter era first off would not have made the statement and secondly would have waited till the facts came out before staking the credibility of the White House on something something that was going to be very quickly debunked. I mean one of the famous examples during the Kashogi investigation was the idea that he had left the consulate. When the Saudis put a body double in clothes it was similar to Shoji's but forgot to change his shoes I mean it was amateur hour and for the US president in the White House to be affiliated with it because of such sporadic in a quick quick tweets was just embarrassing for the credibility of the United States August? Twenty of two thousand nine hundred an attempt at humor accompanied by a mockup of a trump trump casino on the Tundra. I promise not to do this degree land so this is a a photo shopped photo of trump property a trump hotel in greenland amongst a sort of sparse looking fishing village. And I think this is well is one of those moments where you have trump make a comment in the sort of real oh world right off off of cyberspace where he says. Maybe we'll buy greenland and then it sparks. This whole controversy of how Silva's claim is this proposal etc and and then he tries to make light of it as though it was a joke to begin with on twitter. But I think that this is also important in highlighting the risks of twitter in terms of photoshop or doctored images and trump did this with greenland as joke and there was obviously a joke. But there's other times where he's done and hasn't been a joke so he has sent tweets where they have basically doctored video video of Jim Acosta the CNN reporter who was temporarily banned from the White House looking more aggressive than he was because they speed it up his arm movement yeah right and this went throughout the conservative twitter sphere. Very very quickly. You can imagine something like that happening in diplomacy to. That's the big risk is that as deep technology for example fake videos that look very convincing or photo shopped images or any sort of disinformation campaign actually gets promoted by governments and by presidents presidents. That's where we answered very very dangerous territory and this type of stuff. I mean again when you think about the combination of Dr Video doctored images all being promoted by trump trump with no regard for the facts and the lack of credibility that he already has how much more dangerous it gets when you try to make sense of as a foreign diplomat Brian. Close thank you
Trump team rips critics as 'scum' and witnesses as disloyal
"The White House has happy to see the increasingly forcible Republican challenges to the impeachment inquiry but one official admits the West Wing self needs to do a much better job our chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta has the latest for us Jim. The president is clearly sharpening his own rhetoric the White House is trying to rally republicans behind President Trump after days of damaging testimony in the impeachment inquiry as to the president are welcoming this resolution from Senator Lindsey Graham and produce this afternoon condemning the inquiry that's other Republican leaders are backing at this moment the White House is also backing up the president's label for his Republican critics which he called human scum reeling for bombshell testimony in the Ukraine investigation the president's defenders latched onto a Senate Republican resolution condemn the impeachment inquiry accusing House Democrats have denying due process to Mr Trump. I'm not here to tell you that Donald Trump's done nothing wrong I'm not here to tell you anything other than that the way they're going about it is really dangerous for the country and we need to change four spot we can in the house president stayed behind closed doors for much of the day huddling with GOP senators including some who have raised questions about his phone call with the leader Ukraine. I'll be getting reaction from Democratic Congressman David Cellini he is on the Shiri and Foreign Affairs committees and our correspondents and analysts are also standing by first let's go to CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta and Jim the is it is ramping up his constitutional clash with House Democrats that's right Brianna the White House and starting a constitutional fight with House Democrats over the impeachment and the president's legal team has just fired off a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi refusing to cooperate with the investigation the president is stoking these tensions declaring that he won't great with what Republicans are calling a kangaroo court meanwhile CNN has also confirmed the whistleblower at the center of the inquiry wrote a memo describing a White House official listened in on Mr Trump's conversation with Ukrainian president and characterizes that conversation as quote crazy and frightening the official was quote left shaken by what Mr Trump was saying during the call it's a fraud escalating standoff with House Democrats President Trump is refusing to cooperate with the equipment quarry in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi the White House accuses Democrats of trying to play politics stating your unprecedented actions left the president with no choice in order fill his duties to the American people the Constitution the executive branch and all future occupants of the office of the Presidency President Trump and his administration cannot participate in you're partisan and unconstitutional inquiry under these circumstances a key signal White House is ready for combat the finish ration- blocked the US ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sunland from telling what he knows about the president's phone call with the leader of Ukraine about Joe Biden Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was mom on the subject House Democrats Warn White House stonewalling won't make their inquiry go away the failure to produce this witness the failure to produce these documents we consider yet additional strong evidence of obstruction of the constitutional functions of Congress a CO equal branch of government. The president tweeted Sunland won't be testifying I would the Senate embassador sunland are really good ban great American to testify but unfortunately he would be testifying before totally compromised kangaroo court an echo of gop talking points what we see in this impeachment is a kangaroo court and chairman shift is acting like a militia captain kangaroo a source familiar with internal White House Russian said the decision to silence Sunland is part of a new aggressive counter impeachment strategy that source told CNN quote the days of playing nice are done vying posture comes even as the president continues to insist his call was perfect. The people understand it's a scam. They're trying to win an election in twenty twenty by using Richmond if you look at that call perfect call Democrats are zeroing in on an exchange of tax between sunland and top US diplomatic Ukraine Bill Taylor appeared worried that the administration was holding ag Ukraine around the time of Mr Trump's July twenty fifth call as I said on the phone I think it's crazy to withhold security assistance for help with political campaign someone replied bill I believe you are incorrect about President trump's intentions the president has been crystal clear no quid pro quos of any ride I suggest we stopped the back and forth by text before Sunland sent that response he called the president? CNN is learn White House national security officials rambled contain the fallout of Mr Trump's comments on the call including moving the rough transcript of the conversation to a more secure system fellow Republicans see no wrongdoing joint president's doing his job president when when you're talking about the hard earned tax dollars of the American people going to a foreign government the president's going make sure that there is no corruption there still a new Washington Post poll found fifty eight percent agree that the impeachment inquiry should have begun a huge jump from over the summer trump ally senator Lindsey Graham calling on the president's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani to talk to lawmakers Giuliani's response love Lindsey but I still a lawyer have to deal with privilege now Democrats sound like they want to hear from Sunland I this is sort of like a classical Dixon type Watergate action which is cover-up often becomes even worse than the crime itself so the the White House and the State Department continued to orchestrate this massive cover up I stopped being witnesses that had actually prepared to testify now sooner ministration officials just wrapped up a conference call with reporters about this letter to the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi officials were asked on that call what Democrats would have to do in order to secure the cooperation of the White House in the impeachment inquiry one administration officials said the White House did not want to get into hypotheticals at this point indication that the White House at this point is digging in its heels and daring Pelosi to take Mr trump court Brianna it is not a stretch describe what we're seeing right now playing out here in the nation's capital as a constitutional battle that is headed for the courts the stakes have not been asya would say Brianna since the days of Bill Clinton's impeachment and perhaps Watergate Reihana Jim Acosta at the White House thank
Donald Trump's Slippery G7 Summit
"President trump is heading home from the g. seven summit in france. Let's go live to our chief white house correspondent jim acosta jim. The president has left behind a lot of confusion asian where you are over there. That's where i will throughout this g. Seven summit the president and his team they've offered conflicting and false statements on a whole range of topics picks from china to russia to climate change isolated and alone on the world stage. The president wasn't leading at this g seven summit but he was misleading <hes> the g. seven proved to be a slippery summit for president trump after days of rattling world markets in his trade war with china. The president made conflicting claims claims that officials in beijing were reaching out to his administration to ease tensions and i very much appreciate the fact that they came out last night very late last night and they said you they wanna make a deal. They want it to be under com. Circumstances president started the day claiming his team had received reassuring calls from chinese officials but china always said mr trump was exaggerating goals and very very close. They mean business. They wanna be able to give you later in the day. The president didn't wanna talk about whether the calls had occurred and you haven't had calls we've had caused the highest levels but i don't wanna talk about that. At a news conference chris. Mr trump pointed to his treasury secretary secretary mnuchin is here would only say both sides are talking but there were closer with the president that were consumerist goals that followed confusion created by the president over the weekend when he seemed to say he was having second thoughts about his trade trade war a comment the white house later walked back sounds as though you're you're both trying to clean up with president. We're not claiming on whether vladimir putin will be invited to the next summit. The president gave a misleading answer about why russia was kicked out of the g gate dancing around the fact that it was punishment for moscow sections and ukraine. President obama was not happy that this happened because it was embarrassing to him. It was very embarrassing to him and he wanted to russia to be out of the what was called the g eight and that was his determination and he was outsmarted by putting but that's not true and mr trump got testy when he was called out forward you like president obama but it was annexed during president president obama's ten president was evasive on whether he would be with iran's president to is great negotiator but he i think he's gonna wanna me. I think iran wants to get this situation straightened out and perhaps the most lasting image from this summit. Mr trump was missing in action on climate change skipping a meeting devoted to the global global challenge. The white house claimed the president was absent because he had meetings with leaders from germany and india but that's also not true. Those leaders were at the climate meeting. You asked about his past skepticism of climate change something. He's called a chinese hoax. Mr trump bragged about the u._s. Energy industry and i'm not gonna lose that wealth wealth. I'm not gonna lose it on on dreams on windmills which frankly aren't working too well. I'm not going to lose. It and i'm an environmentalist you. A lot of people don't understand that the president out refused to say whether he believed that climate change is happening as he left and the president told another falsehood at the news conference claiming at one point that the first lady has met with north korean dictator kim jong un but that's also not true the first lady has never met with kim jong un and the white house was forced to issue a statement clarifying the record will all right jim acosta on the seat for us. Thank you very
New Zealand shooting highlights problems of white extremism
"Just three months ago with reporters, the president said he hadn't read the New Zealand killers manifesto. So in on this Trump declined to weigh in on all of that. But as for the president's claim that white nationalism is not a rising threat. He may want to consider recent FBI figures and other studies showing right wing extremism is a growing concern from the neo-nazi violence on the streets of Charlottesville to the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh last year. Now, the mosque attack in New Zealand, it is a threat wolf that cannot be denied. Absolutely, correct. Our Jim Acosta at the White House. Thanks very much. Joining us now democratic Senator maisy Hirono of Hawaii. She's a member of the judiciary and the armed services committees. Senator thanks so much for joining us. Thank you. Well, let's begin with the massacre in New Zealand. The president says he doesn't believe white nationalism is a rising threat around the world. How do you see it? Another instance, where the president doesn't pay attention to facts if act white nationalism extremism is on the rise. And in fact in after nine eleven president. Bush went to mosques and went to see the Muslims and hate crimes against Muslims dropped now with this president as he talks about a Muslim ban. And all of that, we know that hate crimes against Muslims in this country have gone up. Mr President, are you listening? Do you have any idea that your words truly matter? And so as he continues to. Act as though this is not a problem. Why is it that as a result of what happened in New Zealand that the mosques in our country are under heightened alert? Why is that? So I know that New Zealand is in mourning right now, they're in a state of shock. I did have a chance to talk with the ambassador to the United States from New Zealand ambassador banks, and I express my deepest condolences with her. And and we shared the concerns that we both have about the this kind of white supremacist extremists terrorism that is on the rise as you know, Senator several of your democratic colleagues. They've pointed the finger at President Trump accusing him of actually emboldening right wing extremism. Do you agree? I think the kinds of language and the words that uses just add fuel to the fire and so for him to take absolutely no responsibility for the continuing divisive. And hate the kind of language that he uses is is a testament to the fact that we have a president who just doesn't care about the words that he uses, but he must know that the worst. It uses are very harmful. That's why he does it. It really excites. His base. Apparently, did you see the interview he did with Breitbart in which he boasts that his base includes the police the military bikers for Trump by he was going out of his way to say, you know, the things get bad. There could be some serious problems down the road. What did you think of that? I thought of that as the appalling language coming from the president. And it seemed to be an invitation for people to take matters into their own hat hands. And and commit the violence. That's what it sounded like to me. And that's the kind of threat and the kind of language he likes to use. And to think that the that he thinks that our military is so undiscovered that they're going to commit these kinds of violence. But the fact that he says these things shows us where he is. At and where he's at is not bringing the country together.
Trump speaks to Boeing CEO following tweets on airline technology
"Right now. Some three dozen countries have now acted to ground Boeing seven thirty seven max aircraft following a devastating weekend crash in Ethiopia, but US regulators so far are resisting the push to do the same and US airlines continue to operate the jet. It's become a political issue here in Washington as well. Want to go to our chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta? Jim President Trump. He's weighed in with a rather strange tweet. He certainly did. Well, President Trump may have inadvertently undermine confidence in the nation's aviation system. When he tweeted that he thinks commercial airliners are too technologically advanced the president's tweets, certainly got a reaction out of Boeing CEO who called the White House after Mr. Trump's comments. With countries around the world except for the US. Grounding, the use of Boeing seven thirty-seven Maxine jets after the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines plane over the weekend. President Trump weighed in even though the investigation into what happened is barely underway. Tweeting airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly pilots are no longer needed. But rather computer, scientists from MIT I see it all the time in many products, always seeking to go one unnecessary step further when often old and simpler as far better split-second decisions are needed and the complexity creates danger all of this for great cost yet, very little gain. I don't know about you. But I don't want Albert Einstein to be my pilot that tweet prompted a phone call from Boeing CEO to the president about his remarks the White House later expressed caution about the cause of the crash certainly this is very early in the process. I think the first place we have to start is by offering our condolences acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, a former Boeing executive was asked. Whether the company's planes are safe these situations as you well know are very serious, and let's let the FAA and others. Take command to the situation and trust that part of the process. They do you think the flight should be grounded right now. Serve the airplanes. Okay.
Michael Cohen House testimony: what to expect
"Today is the first of three days of hearings that involved Michael Cohen, aka the rat. At least according to his former boss, President Trump today. We've had L E Hoenig of CNN legal analyst to give us kind of a preview of what we're going to see and the importance of it. And if I can't Elliot can before even getting into the specifics to what degree are these genuine hearings? I mean, everything in Washington is so thoroughly partisan, you know, which way each side's gonna vote anyway, don't you? Well, they're genuine hearings, but they will assuredly be very partisan isle. There's not going to be a vote at the end of this. This is a factor gathering hearing. I come from the criminal courts where you operate with a strict set of rules of procedure and rules of evidence. And you have a judge jury. We're going to have none of that all of which I think will contribute to the circus like atmosphere that we're going to see you're going to see presidents longtime personal attorney basically open game for a group of partisan politics. Both ways and all have their agendas, and they will all be looking to score points. Well, let's look at how they do it. If I'm a Republican I turn around. And I say, why do you want to believe this guy? This guy's already been convicted. He's a convicted felon. Yeah. The Republican attack is going to be very predictable. It's going to be the same way that defense lawyers attacked cooperating witnesses at criminal trials. It's going to be he's he's a liar. He's an admitted criminal throw them out the window. The president's already done the Sarah Sanders issued a statement this morning that was the most predictable statement ever where she said exactly that about Michael Cohen. I think it would be a little bit more credible for people on both sides of say we'll see what he has to say. And we'll assess it, but when you're announcing before he spoken one word that nothing. He says is believable. I think you undermine your own credibility Democrats on the advising the Democrats. I would say don't embrace this guy. Don't try to make him out to be the messiah earn angel. He's none of those things he's badly flawed individual. He's an admitted criminal. These are the kind of witnesses. We used to build cases row when I was a prosecutor. But that's how the system works. And the thing that I would tell the Democrats to focus on his focus on the facts. I don't think we need to get into all the personal stuff every little peccadillo that Trump had facts and things that can be verified or proven with documents or other evidence. Understood. But as far as the evidence is concerned there. No rules on evidence. Right. You can put anything in. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it sounds like Michael Collins actually going to appear with documents. I don't know if he's been a briefcase and sort of pop them out. But correct. I mean regular court they would have to go through a process that the prosecutor would have to offer them into evidence. The judge would review it the defense would object. Another judge would say it's in out. There will be no such thing when Michael tomorrow. So it's going to be wild west. All right, there are three different meetings that are going to take place today. We've got the Senate intelligence committee tomorrow, the house oversight committee and then on Thursday, Adam shifts committee, the house intelligence committee of the three the one that would probably get the most attention and tell me if I'm wrong Elliott would probably be the one tomorrow. Because after all it's going to be the only public one hundred miles. We may get leaks and secondhand account of what's happening behind closed doors, knowing congress, I would expect that but gosh, I mean, Michael Collins going to be sitting now there's going to be. Cameras in his face. He's going to be answering questions directly from the committee members. It's going to be a show, and yeah, that's where all the attention is going to be it's going to be a show. And what meanwhile at the same time, you've got the president of the United States sitting down with Kim Jong UN in Vietnam. And they'll probably be a split screen, which one goes, I, you know, the president's going to not be able to help themselves from watching Cohen interesting. I think it's twelve hours different. So it'd be at Phnom. So I think the Coen if he devise all day that's going to be through the night in Vietnam. But I saw a report earlier today that somebody says the president's planning to stay up all night and watch Cowan, and we know he likes his cable news. So I believe that well as long as FOX's there. That's not a problem CNN. He criticized. I know CNN is yours. How how could he not love CNN because he had Jim Acosta? That's his favorite reporter, isn't it? Sure. But sometimes it's obvious. He's watching you'll see an anchor say something, and then they'll jump on and say fake news. Hey, you know, it's one more viewers with me we're talking with Elian Hoenig CNN legal analyst. Let's talk a little bit about what they're trying to figure out for one thing. It's fairly obvious people are gonna zero in on these two payments made to the two women to kind of make sure that they weren't part of the actual campaign. They get to the bottom of that. I think so I think Michael Cohen is going to have chapter and verse on that every cooperator and considering cooperator analogous to want somebody who used to be involved in criminal activity with the person there now testifying against there are things that cooperator was directly involved in. And there are things that are cooperator may have only known a little bit or piece about this is the former this is going to be he was right in the middle of making these hush money payments. He should be able to detail not just President Trump's involvement, but the involvement of other organs. -secutive Z evolvement of David pecker in the payment made to Karen McDougal. He should have chapter endorse on it. I'm expecting probably has documents that communications on that as well. Well, is there any question? I mean, let's be realistic. You really going to turn around and pay money to these two women? If it wasn't at the direction of the president. Why are you doing it? What do you have a charity there? Well, I guess the argument would be these were people who were looking out for my interests. And I was running a large campaign at the time. And I don't know everything everyone is doing I just know people are out there trying to protect me. But the trick there is the legal defense that we've heard this from the president and his legal team is dispute that these payments happened they say, but it wasn't connected to the election. It was connected to protecting the president from these what they call false allegations. But personal embarrassment family embarrassment, and that's an important legal point because when John Edwards. We're remember. John Edwards ran for vice president he was a Senator from North Carolina. He was charged with the very similar crime. He had paid hush money to his mistress. Who had he had a child with? He was tried for that. And he was acquitted on most charges and the jury hung out others because the key point is it's only a campaign finance. Violation. If the payment was designed in large part to protect the person election. And so Edward defense was no it was primarily intended to protect me and my family fucking delegation. It wasn't really election connected. Well, first of all John Edwards allegedly gives pecker the opportunity to say see we were real paper. We broke that story and number two John Edwards is different. Because in this case, what else would it have been used for other than a campaign thing? I mean, otherwise, why would Trumpcare about these women and the timing is so telling here because the alleged affairs happened many many years before and the payments are made just a couple of weeks before the election. So I think that's hard to explain I think Edwards. The timing was not nearly so clear, I think in fact, I think the payments continued after he was out of the campaign. So there was a better argument there that they were not related to the campaign and one of the other really good questions. You ask is the Trump or anybody else ever talked to you or your lawyers about the possibility of a pardon Michael comb. What do I say that I think that's important point? There's been indicators out there that the president has dangled a partners people like to put it to Roger stone to Paul Manafort, and you can see it in his tweets. Right. He tweets out at Manafort and stone a brave and they've gotten backbone because there's staying silent. Meanwhile, when Michael Cohen cooperates tweets calling him a latte, which I I take that a lot of offensive that having prosecuted real cases, I did mafia cases here in New York. And that's a term that gets people killed. I mean, that's what mob bosses say I've done cases where people murdered other people because they thought they were rats. So for the president of the United States to say that is way out of line. I guess it all boil down to the very end when he takes off his shirt and if he's got an actual full tattoo of Donald Trump. That may have to come off. There's a name for that. You know, what that would be called, namely,

But you've lost this is because I think it's important to remember and repeat at the BuzzFeed thing and Jim Acosta remember when CNN jumped on that bogus BuzzFeed storing early on during the transition period in two thousand sixteen. And that was on the dossier. That's that was the back and forth between the cost and the president that that's where all that began. And they didn't care. They don't care to admit when they're wrong. It's funny. Because in our read one CNN version of the BuzzFeed from this weekend and CNN saying now while we cannot corroborate what the what BuzzFeed is climbing. Oh. Yeah. Because Muller himself said through the spokesperson that it was inaccurate that it was wrong. Well, see they can't even bring bring themselves to say, we got it wrong. It was well BuzzFeed sticking with their story, which is one thing. But then we cannot corroborate that that may seem like a big deal. But but that is not a news organization. I'm talking about a global news organization and CNN coming out and saying, hey, BuzzFeed got it wrong. Now. Jeffrey Toobin did only saw the Friday night. He said. The this is this is a really big deal when Jeffrey Toobin says I'll find the I gotta find the audience on the anti says, thanks for coming out. Got it wrong and good for him. That this is a I think you said this is a bad day for the media. He. Yeah. Because I again, I thought we covered it in a fair way. We we we we covered all angles. We said look BuzzFeed came out with this. But look BuzzFeed, you can't believe them alone or has to be other media outlets had come and and verify cooperate with their sane and that had to happen. And by the time, we were on it was over at least twelve years to twelve years twelve hours old, and we're like with we're not hearing anything from any other media except BuzzFeed. And I said that's a problem because they're editor has already said that that we will print stories where the information is not verified because that's what we're about. Right. That's what we are. And we said so they have admitted they're not about the truth. But they're about political activism and that happened to way back since they said, that's our policy. You cannot view anything that comes out of BuzzFeed as truthful unless you can get cooperate. Nation from other media, a variety of other media that you can piece together a story and therefore find it at least. Partly credible or credible. Right. And it's just look, and and it's not I have no biases against BuzzFeed. I'm simply telling you the truth of what they have said their journalistic policy is which deviates from normal is..

Yes, you can't see through these lots to the other side of the US beco- border. But as we're walking along here, we're not seeing any kind of imminent danger. There are no migrants trying to rush toward this fence here in the mcallen, Texas area. Matter of fact, there's some other businesses behind me along this highway. There's a gas station Burger King and so on, but no sign of the national emergency that the president has been talking about as a matter of fact, it's pretty tranquil down here. Yeah. You know, where it's not in the San Diego area. This guy is crazy. First of all is this the worst system worst reporting ever versatile. I've just picked random space, and I'm going there. And by the way, the thing I'm against the wall is right here. So you could see through it. So it's more of a fence, which I might people are more for offense than a wall. But let me just show you it's completely effective. But instead I'm going to spin this as nobody's ear. There is no -mergency. Yes. Because the friggin wall is right there. Also, it might have something to do with your wearing sunglasses usually people are coming in the cover of darkness. Where was he when I went down to gallon Texas with our border patrol in the middle of the night. Do you remember do did you come with did not go with you? But I do we have danger to it. So you and I met and they still haven't gotten. You're right. Went down there. I watched the boats come over in the middle of the night. I watched the people come over in droves, mcallen, Texas is kind of a hot spot, but not in the middle of the day, not wear the border fences. Instead where there is no fence, Jim what a complete and utter dope. And everyone at CNN. Shame on you. Shame on would have stepped in earlier, but I will never stop Jim Acosta rats. I would say Jim we've got a hot story for you. It's logical fallacies. I, you know, I don't think that a across the border Boorda walls, a good use of funds. So I don't think this is a good that said though, the logical holes in it are much bigger than the current border wall. You know? And there's parts where it's mountainous. You're not gonna put a fence or a wall there, and there's like like again from from a from a safety issue if he were to focus on the math side of this. I'd I'd be with him on it where most of the drugs that are coming in. They're coming through legal ports. They're not coming from cross the border. Most of the forty percent of the people overstaying their visa, they're already here that said, though, if you pick a random spot of wall and go, look, it's peaceful. How could Jim look at me. I'm Jim Acosta have ever guessed that people hundreds of miles away moving in our direction would eventually reach our border. I mean, hundreds of miles away. That's like an eternity. They've just keep walking for forever. I mean, it was it was stupid on its face. Trump was entirely entirely in the right. And then the people charged the border. You can't just let them come in. And so the and they were throwing things at our border agents. As Trump said, they would Trump said, look, they did it in Mexico. What makes you think they're not going to do it? Here those pictures that Jim look at me. I'm Jim Acosta were that he was referring to those pictures pictures of them storming fences in Mexico. So Trump was absolutely right to say they were going to do that here as well. Why not why wouldn't they do the exact same thing? Totally in the right. You know, as as boss tweed when said about the cartoons that brought help bring down his administration people don't read, but they can look at the pictures, and that's what they're depending on here. And of course, you know. Not only not only are. Well, let let's start with tear-gas. Let's start with this. The Washington Times has reported that the same tear gas agent that the Trump administration is taking heat for deployment against a border mob. This weekend is actually used fairly frequently including more than once a month during the leader years of President Obama's administration, according to homeland security data US customs and border protection has used the what's called CS since two thousand ten and deployed twenty six times in fiscal twenty twelve and twenty seven times in two thousand thirteen the use dropped after that. But was still deployed three times in two thousand sixteen Mr. Obama's final full year in office UCS rose again and fiscal 2017, which was split between Obama and Trump. So it's something they do. We'll be back into the White House fray things and the White House is now the their rules for the journalists to to go with this kind of goes to my theory awhile ago, and I thought for sure it was going to happen this time around and it's going to happen soon. But I think Trump was just gonna cancel the daily briefing just stopped doing. We're not gonna do it anymore. Follow me on Twitter shut up. When there's some catch me out on the tarmac has me on the way to the helicopter. If there's something important. Other than that. Because he's not required to do. It don't have. And I will say Trump does way less press conferences than any previous president. He does not come out and do formal press conference is very often the answer stuff all the time. He does a lot of informal stuff. And that's the way he deals with the press, which I think there's a problem with that. At all. I mean, I think sometimes there is value in the formal press conference with the president because you know, you're setting a date people are prepared to get their to their best questions in theory. Like, it's. Did one. He's that one. But very infrequently. However, the daily press briefing with Sarah Huckabee Sanders has she been doing them. I haven't seen them anymore that she's still doing them as far as I know. I don't know she goes on trips with with Trump. So she's still around. You know, what I mean, there's been reports that she was on her way out. I don't think that's true. Still there. "They don't put in the valves when he wanted to. Here's the thing. Here's the thing. Jim Kosta is a third return list and a clown. But I'd rather live in a country when we step back a little bit. We'll step back a little bit from disliking him. Personally. I would rather live in a country in which the occasional knucklehead can give the top man a headache from time to time and country in which that can't happen. So even though I don't think the first amendment or the fifth amendment decrees that Jim Acosta needs to get his press pass back. I do believe it is. Generally, a good thing that the press can annoy the president of the United States. The reason the press is suffering. The the Donald Trump backlash. That it suffering is because they didn't do their job for eight years. That is why if they treated Barack Obama like this, and they had this. They have this delusional sense that they once asked Barack Obama hard questioned with something like what time is it or something, you know, what what chance you most about the presidency. They have this delusional idea that they covered Obama. They didn't cover Obama. They covered up for Obama for eight years that scandal-free administration that included scandal after scandal the IRS scandal the fast and furious scandal one scandal after another the scandal of the Iran deal the scandal of dumping cash into the pockets of the Iranians for nothing for no reasons because they're going to get their nuclear weapon. Anyway, all of those scandals were left uncovered they covered him up instead. And that's what they're paying for now. And that's why Donald Trump gets away with the stuff he does because otherwise even I would attack them. I don't wanna see the president of the United States throwing reporters out even a bad reporter even. Bad reporter like Jim Acosta, who's just grandstand. Or throwing his opinion at the president. I want those guys they are the problem is you cannot show up after eight years and put on your reporter pants again and say, suddenly, we're reporters. So this is the problem that I have with this idea that we stand in solidarity. There was an exchange. Chris Wallace had Trump on. And I thought Trump said a couple of things that I would question but not on this subject, but but they had an exchange Chris Wallace and Trump had this back and forth exchange in which Wallace kind of did this whole thing that the press stands in solidarity. Let's let's play this clip. This is number seven. I'm saying fake news false reporting dishonest reporting of which there is a lot. And I know see I know it because I'm a subject of a lot of people don't know. But when I explain it to them, they understand, and because you know, that better you don't have to sit here and act like a perfectly wonderful innocent angel. I know you too. Well, I knew you father to well. That's not your, gene. But let me. Tell you look I and some of the coverage of user, and I've set it on the record is biased. But I don't think that they are despised. But I, but the idea that you call us the enemy of the people calling you that I'm talking I'm not altogether. I don't understand it. We're all together. No, no. I'm not calling you. I. All and the New York Times calling. We're in solidarity. Curling fake news fake reporting is what's tearing this country apart because people know people like things that are happening. And then not hearing about it. Now. Trump is absolutely right about this. He's right twice immense fake reporting. When you have ninety four to between ninety four ninety six percent of the coverage of Trump has been negative when the economy so good when ISIS has gone on the judges a good when the regulations cut back and businesses thriving all of that that that's covered ninety six percent negative. He is absolutely right. And the problem is that the problem with Wallace's point of view is that it is. It is the opposite problem we have with Democrats that we want clowns like Jim Acosta to be able to annoy the president I want that to happen. My gripe is that it didn't happen for eight years. That's my real gripe. Not the way they treat Trump. It's the way they treated Obama and the way they treated Trump, but but the solidarity of. Press is masking a genuine genuine dysfunction in the press..

His press pass is hard pass to the White House was taken away without the art Passi would've had to apply every day for past the White House. And of course, would give them a pass to anything. So that would have been a problem so CNN sued which was absurd and the judge temporarily he issued an injunction saying he his fifth is article five right to due process was violated because there was no hearing, and there were no rules and his first amendment rights were. I'm sorry fifth amendment. And I met rights were violated by taking away. Now this I'm not a lawyer. But this seems to me completely absurd. The thing for me about this has been the reaction of the press the press stood in solidarity with the cost even though sources say that many people just hate the guy. He's a show boater. He's a second east really a second rate clown. I mean, he is just ridiculous. The question that he asks at the time you remember was when he said you called the caravan an invasion, but it's not an invasion, which is like who cares? What you think accosted Trump wonderfully said, we have a difference of opinion. So obviously, this is a guy who thinks his opinion matters his his job is to put his opinion next to the president of the United States. And somehow that's pointing out that Trump as a different opinion. I'm not sure. What the hell he's doing? But the most important things he wants people to look at him after he won the temporary injunction got his art passback. He shows up wonderful piece of videos, he shows up and begs the press to interview when asked a question, I could just tell you. I. I I just want to say that I'm very grateful for what happened today and grateful my colleagues in the press who stood by roll this this this was a test. And you know, I think we'd pass the test. So so I love that. You guys wanna ask me question? Could you ask you, please please as a question and look at me look at me up. And of course, we have to add in here that, you know, in the in the court case, the Trump lawyers came in and kinda tried to steamroll the judge a little bit. They said, you know, we can ban. Anybody we want which probably got the judges backup. It probably was not the best argument. They could've made they should have gone in. And just said, hey, he was disruptive. He wasn't following the rules. And he obviously was when the young intern came and tried to take Mike away. He strangled her to death screaming at me. I'm Jim Acosta or it wasn't that bad. But it was still pretty bad. And you've made a big fuss about everything, and the whole thing was useless. The thing is the thing is about a cost of the we have to step back for just a minute. Jim Acosta is the news media. Jim Acosta is the news media. Here's what I mean. This incident happened right after Donald Trump came out after the midterm election and made some pretty bipartisan noises. I mean, they were Trumpian bipartisan noises they came along with some belligerence. He said if you start investigating me, I'm gonna investigate you will be at war. But his main the main thrust of the speech, he made was okay now, the Democrats have the house. Let them make some laws, and let us do some deals and do some trading which is what conservatives like me worried about with Trump all along that he would drift to the left if ever the left started dealing dealing with them..

"And Jim Acosta. Have hired a couple of top gun lawyers. We'll filed one of the most pathetic lawsuits have ever rent. This is not a freedom of the press case. CNN has reporters at the White House CNN has reporters at presidential press conferences. If anything the freedom of the press argument is on the White House's side how so. Because the purpose of a presidential press conference is to allows many reporters as possible to ask pertinent questions and for the president the answer them. In other words, they press conferences for the American people. One of the difficulties the other members of the press and the president are having communicating with each other including tough questions, so the president. And thereby informing the American people Jim Acosta. When Jim Acosta disrupts the press conference. Monopolize the time and basically gives his political opinions about a president who he constantly calls a liar. We learned nothing. We learn absolutely nothing. And I would tell the lawyers who filed this lawsuit you filed a very dishonest. Brief your recitation of the facts are not the facts. And we the people watch this press conference, you left out an awful lot of information that is harmful to your client. And I can tell you that when the Justice department defense against this. They actually might put the actual transcript in the brief to show the court. How you misled? And you're not standing up for the media in the country. You're not standing up for the press in the country, CNN and Jim Acosta. You're not in any way. There's one hundred and fifty reporters in that room. Jim Acosta is one. This isn't about freedom of the press. Know what this is about is an individual who provocative. Who wants to create drama? And not about news about him and CNN and CNN wanting to get their ratings up. Now, this could go in front of Obama court or Clinton court, but as a sixty yard pass they're hoping for the best. But in the end, it's nothing more than a press release. Short and simple. Now, let's take a look at this. Let's take a real look at this. We get Electr about what the framers of the constitution intended. I would remind my friend Ted Olson. Ted Olson, this is A Gibson Dunne lawsuit. Ted Olson was Ronald Reagan's lawyer Ted Olson represented parties in the same sex marriage case in California on the side of same sex marriage and Ted also now's taken up the cause of CNN and Jim Acosta, it's unfortunate. They talk about the framers of our constitution. First of all the Bill of rights. The first ten amendments were not originally part of the constitution where they. So the framers of the constitution in Philadelphia had nothing to do with the first amendment matter of fact, it was the states. That insisted. On various amendments to the constitution. And it was James Madison and John Adams among other who relented. During the debates in the states over ratification that when the first congress would meet. They would introduce amendments to rectify what some of these states thought were imperfections. That's how we got the Bill of rights from the states. Let's be totally clear about that wasn't the framers of the constitution. Was the attendees at the various ratification debates in the states. That's the first point. The second point is since we've had this first amendment. And I hope these supreme court justices are listening. We've had many great presidents and many lousy presidents. We had two out of three really great presidents. Who through journalists in prison? That's not why they were great. It's in spite of that the first being John Adams as discussed here repeatedly. John Adams was a brilliant, man. He wasn't crucially important founder. He was the second president of the United States. Any lost his seat in part? Due to the airline and sedition acts, which Thomas Jefferson and the Republicans rejected. They campaigned on that. And they won. The second president. There are others. But the second president, I'll mention is the great ABRAHAM LINCOLN sixteenth president. One two New York. Newspapers published a fake presidential proclamation during the course of the civil war. Lincoln was furious. And he ordered one of his generals to arrest the editors and the journalists. Who worked at those newspapers? Exactly what they did. He did more. He shut down those newspapers. And his surrogates. Shutdown almost three hundred newspapers during the course of the civil war. I don't see that mentioned in Ted Olson's brief I don't see John Adams mentioned in since brief why get that in a second. Then we have Woodrow Wilson one of the founding fathers of the progressive movement in this country. President of the United States in the earlier part. Of the last century a democrat. While he was kind of enthralled but Adams had done and they had an espionage act of nineteen seventeen and the Democrats in congress amended. To add what's called today, the nine hundred eighteen Sedition Act, and of course, Woodrow Wilson signed it. So addition of being a racist and a segregationist this leading progressive. He threw journalists in prison as well as political opponents. Now, not to bore you to death. Let's jump up Barack Mel house Benita Obama. He sought to throw journalists in prison to there's various leak investigations there were more investigations of journalists related to leak investigations during the Obama administration, then all his modern predecessors combined. He investigated in investigative reporter for the New York Times, he investigated investigative reporter for Fox News. He investigated twenty eight p reporters. And they used espionage surveillance. Never really pressed to tough by any of the people at CNN during presidential press conferences, as a matter of fact, Barack Obama had a little trick to press conferences. He do a press conference for thirty forty fifty minutes, and there be three four five questions tops because he would filibuster. I don't remember any reported jumping up and yelling at the president. I don't remember any reported jumping up and calling the president a liar. I don't remember any interference. With his rope. A dope. Except once. Neil Munro of the daily caller at the time. President was doing one of his things out there. The rose garden and the L one rodale dare to yell out a question out of turn. He wasn't accusing the president or anything heating. Call the president anything. He wasn't debating the president. He dared to yell at a question out of turn. While the president was conducting one of his filibusters and the media at the event turned on Neil Munro. Attacked him. Remember this? Attacked him. So that's a little historical background. That's all missing from this brief as you would expect, but they right on item. Five the framers of our constitution embraced a profound national commitment to the principle that debate on public issues should be uninhibited robust and wide open. And that it may well include vehement, caustic, and sometimes unpleasantly sharp attacks on government and public officials near at times versus Sullivan, nobody's disputing that. We're talking about somebody disrupting a presidential press conference. You can't have street. Protesters dressed up as reporters interfering with the president presidential press conference. You see, ladies and gentlemen, I posted something early this morning, which has been regurgitated by the backbenchers all day on. I said, this is a ridiculous suit. As I say, they're I'm sure they're form shopping looking for an Obama judge or a Clinton judge. But no reporter has a constitutional right to be physically present in the press room anymore than the scores of reporters who are not so lucky as to get a hard pass to be there in the first place. You've got reporters all over the country local newspapers regional newspapers statewide newspapers national websites, people involved in national social media, and so forth and national newspapers they all don't get in there unless you're going to have a baseball stadium, and everybody's present. So a line does have to be drawn. Now, it's either drawn by the president or the supreme court. The supreme court has no business whatsoever in this none. It's called separation of powers, and I might add. That the supreme court which conducts itself in secret the supreme court, which does not hold press conferences, the supreme court in which justices like Ruth, Bader Ginsburg, go out and give interviews is in no position to be dictating policy to the president of the United States. This is not about freedom of the press. It's about an administrative policy that the White House's decided on because I got some kid in the back row who keeps up blowing up bubble gum and popping it in the back row and disrupting the class. That's pretty much. What's taking place? You understand that? There's nothing in the constitution that compels the president to hold a presidential press conference period. Watch the court order to hold one. I wrote this all up this morning. So you heard the back benches. I'm sure there's nothing in the constitution that compels the president to call on anyone from CNN, let alone Jim Acosta. Period. Kosta does not have a constitutional right to disrupt the press conference and CNN doesn't either. And CNN doesn't either. Ted Olson and Theodore Boutrous. Are doing grave damage to our constitution. We have made repeated requests for Ted Olson to come on this program. Unfortunately, he won't I've been a friend of his for years. Both served in the same administration. The Laura Bush versus gore, I still consider him a friend. I haven't seen him in a long time. But I still consider my friend. But I wanted him to come on. So we can have an honest debate about this, you know, to inform the public even though neither of us are government. That would be a nice free speech thing to do. But his office did not respond to multiple emails and phone calls. Didn't even reply. Because his colleague Mr. Boutros, apparently is only doing friendly and supportive media. He's welcome on this program to it's an open door to either Ted. Because I want to have this discussion. I want to have this discussion. And out of control. Provocateur? In the middle of a press conference time and time again with the president or with the president's spokeswoman. Is not a matter of freedom of the press. Jim Acosta is the Morton Downey junior of the media. I have nothing personal against the late Morton Downey junior. But I'm saying when he used to have that syndicated program late at night. That's Jim Acosta. The White House has to decide who gets a hard press pass. And who does not? And in this case, they had huge reasons and justifications to withdraw it for mister Acosta. And we don't need this law firm. The tell us what took plates in that room because we all saw it with our own two eyes. And we all turned it whether owned two years, which is exactly why when you get into their statement of the facts in the lawsuit they mislead the court. They mislead the court. When you read item twenty-seven item twenty eight and twenty nine. They leave out key aspects of what Mr. Kosta did and said. And in fact, they accused the young lady inter of reaching a cost his body and grabbing the microphone. She shouldn't have had to grab the microphone. It wasn't his in the first place. It's a news conference. Not the UFC. Seem like one did it then they go through a whole list of things that the president has said about CNN and about the Kosta all of his tweets. What does that have to do anything? They're trying to throw Chom out there for any left wing activists judge to grab onto you. See the issue isn't what the president has said about CNN Kosta. The issue isn't even wanting to Costas said about the president repeatedly on CNN calling Malar. The issue is what took place at that press conference. And what took place at that press conference? Actually undermined the ability of the media and the president to communicate with the American people. It was an attack on freedom of the press by Jim Acosta CNN and Time Warner I'll be right back..

"Doing your job. And thanks for your service ended up Mike a credential. I've had for five years. I wanna read reaction from a few colleagues covering the White House. Jeff Mason from Reuters tweeted, I was seated next to a cost it today's press conference and did not witness him placing his hands doesn't quotes on the young intern. As the White House alleges he held onto the microphone issue reach for him. Peter Baker from the New York Times tweeted false predicate to punish reporter this. What the president wants if you really thought at a cost was unfair. Then why did he call him because he wants the confrontation Maggie Haberman tweeting Kosta who the White House's alleging quote placed his hands on the young intern said quote, pardon me, ma'am, as he tried to ask his question. I was wondering statement that that CNN's just released. The statement reads, the White House announced tonight that it has revoked the press passive CNN chief White House correspondent to Mukasa. It was done in retaliation for his challenging questions. Today's press conference in explanation. Press secretary, Sarah Sanders lied. She provided fraudulent accusations inside it an incident that never happened this unprecedented decision. Is a threat to our democracy in the country deserves better. Jim Acosta has our full support. Anything else you? Well, I was I was just trying to ask a question of the president at this press conference. And it was obviously a question. They didn't like it was about his racist. Add on on the caravan that they were running before the midterms he and I were going back and forth there, and as you can see in this video this intern came up to me that they're describing her as an intern. I don't really know who she is an attempted to take the micro thrown away from me all I can say at that point is that I was trying to hang onto the microphone. So I could continue to ask the president questions. Obviously, I, you know, I didn't put my hands on her or toucher as they're alleging. And it's just unfortunate that the the White House is saying this, you know, we all try to be professionals over there. And I think I handled myself professionally and I appreciate all the comments from my colleagues. I do think Anderson that this is a test for all of us. I do think they're trying to to shut us down to some extent inside the White House press corps, and to some extent, I think they're trying to send a message to our colleagues and you had new advance. Wondering this was simply when you got to the White House to to go do a live shot. You were just informed by secret service. Yeah. I I saw the statement on my phone from Sarah Sanders that my press credentials revoked I thought, well, maybe I'll I'll get inside the White House for one more live shot on your show. And at that point, I was simply blocked from entering the entering the facility. As a matter of fact, there was an officer who stood in front of the doorway to the security booth that I've gone through every day for the last where every working day that come to the White House for the last five years. So it was a pretty surreal experience. I mean, I never thought in this country that I I wouldn't be able to go and cover the president of the United States simply because I was trying to ask a question Jim Acosta. Which journalists have been killed because of Trump supporters, which ones any? No. Okay. That's what I thought from author Khallid diab- Diab die of Trump's endless vilification of the media will almost certainly lead to vigilante violence against journalists. If Trump succeeds in weakening American institutions sufficiently, he could wage air one style crackdown on his media critics and independent journalists. Did you know that? Did you know that Donald Trump is like the dictator of Turkey, the Islamists dictator of Turkey? I didn't know that I didn't even know Trump was in his lamest who he, that guy really can slip through the cracks. You know, he really pulled the wool over all of our is. "I'm Jim Acosta Ron burgundy. You never see him and we'll Farrell in the same room at the same time. Do you. So he felt like he wasn't in America anymore, and this is I actually kind of like Jim Acosta I very serious. Someone asked me if the daily wire could send a Representative to the White House. Would it be say would have to be Jim Mukasa because there's a sort of guile listening to him. You know, they report the most absurd fake news all the time and by fake news. I mean, certain dishonest lines, certain actually inaccurate stories. And then also they just harp on constant negative nonsense. President Trump has the most negative press coverage in modern presidential history. Despite the fact that his approval rating in the country is fifty percent. It's it's actually quite quite high. And despite the fact that we have a booming economy that we've got peace abroad that we've got low unemployment record-low joblessness of crime down, hate crime down all of these great statistics that we can take off. But the mainstream media harp on issues that the American people don't care about. They harp on the the Russia investigation that they harp on these issues that Americans rank in the bottom of bottom percentages of what they care about, what matters to them, what it should be newsworthy, which should be politically newsworthy, but they. The other thing to point out here is you've got this video of of Ron burgundy. Jim Acosta standing there in the press cage and you've got all these Trump supporters just making fun of him. You know, because they don't like the mainstream media, the mainstream media or unpopular because they're liars. They carry water for Democrats. They're dirty rotten liars, but they're not like punching him in the face. They're not climbing over the cage to stab him or something like that. There haven't been political attacks on journalists in America. In recent history, there have been some where their personal gripes between people and certain local journalists that's happened a handful of times, but there haven't. You know, there isn't a epidemic of Trump's supporters going out and physically attacking members of the mainstream media that doesn't exist. What does exist, however, is members of the media and also lefties riling up and inciting violence against Trump supporters. Everybody from media types in the Democratic Party and on the left all the way to elected officials. Ginny up a attacks on Trump supporters on people who worked for President Trump ju. Just look at a few of these tweets talk about a dehumanizing from PBS and NPR composer Christopher o'riley quote, calling them deplorables euphemize ING them, maybe better to euthanize get it. We shouldn't euphemize them. We shouldn't give them a little nickname. We should kill all of them. You don't see that you, you don't really see that with Jim Acosta with Trump supporters to Jim Acosta. We make fun of Jim Acosta because he's eminently mockup, but you don't see that sort of, let's kill them all. Let's euthanize them. How about TV host? John Murray says this scene referring to Jim Acosta's experience at the Trump rally. This scene looks like a modern day. Ku Klux Klan rally, amazing to see that Donald Trump, the man occupying the White House is so comfortable in his atmosphere of hate philosophy, bigotry and diploma language. God bless America owes where. The hostility coming from, sir, whereas that how is this like a Ku Klux Klan rally? Because that's the easiest that's the easiest insult. It's the worst thing you can say about a person to say that their biggest that they're racists, that they're the worst thing you can say in modern America. What's the evidence was really funny is in the clip in that clip of Jim Acosta there. The first group of people that was prominent group on camera is a big group that says blacks for Trump. So just like all those old, Ku Klux Klan, rallies blacks for the clan. You don't see that a lot. That's not true. It's just it's just an insane, slander, it's insane liable to say that about Trump supporters, and it really does. Gina patriot is what you're saying is these Trump supporters are domestic terrorists and we gotta take care of them. Obviously, this is, you know, they're oblivious to their to what they're saying themselves. How about wilpon or the the author wilpon. He said, on Twitter quote, I'm truly ashamed that this is what America has become replaced the maga- hats and Trump signs, and this is straight out of any number of Thawra -tarian regimes where journalists are killed..

I left my compatriots there in DC. We were like ships passing in the night. Didn't get to see one another. I don't. I don't know if I'm more tired because I just got off the airplane and I came here or because I closed down Shelley's back room with Alli stuck last night. It was one of those two things. I'm not sure which one, but a lot of fun anyway, really enjoyed seeing f. and you know we're doing this tour in the fall with UAW Kofi on campus. We have the one and only Jim Acosta if Jim Acosta did not exist, conservatives would have to create Jim Acosta the future daily wire White House correspondent Jim Acosta. He got into a little heat because he was at a Trump event. He was added Trump rally and some Trump supporters were echoing him. I wonder why I wonder why they would do that. Doesn't that seem so crazy. So then Jim Acosta went on television and started crying those mainstream media, crocodile tears here is Mr.. Kosta is covered callous. If these has become one of the president's favourite human punching bags CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta, Jim, we've seen your your videos and I've, I've been to these events to I've met with countless Trump supporters even. I was shocked at the level of vitriol. That was aimed your way last night. Give us an idea of what it felt like to be in the middle of it. Well, I s I mean, honestly, it felt like we weren't in America anymore on. I don't know how to put a any more plainly than that. Americans should not be treating their fellow Americans in this way. But unfortunately, what we've seen in this has been building for some time since the campaign I've been. I've been talking about this as an issue since the campaign when the president during the campaign referred to us as the dishonest media, the disgusting news media, liar, scum, and thieves, and so on. And then he rolled that right into the Oval Office and started calling us fake news, the enemy of the people. He is whipping these crowds up into a frenzy to the point where they, they really wanna come after us, and we, you know, we have these these bike rack like barriers around the press cages. We call it to protect us essentially from people who might take things too far. It's unfortunate because I try to calmly talk to a lot of these folks at the rally last night to say, listen, hey, you know, tell me what you want to talk about here. Why are you guys so upset with us? And they. Would kind of go through a list of questions. Most of most of the questions were about, why don't you guys report positive news about the president? I said, hey, you know what we do that we were reporting on this positive job numbers in the economy last Friday and might my sense of it SE is that the that these opinions that these folks have at these rallies, they're shaped by what they see in the primetime hours of Fox News and what they hear from some conservative news outlets that just sort of give them this daily diet of what they consider to be terrible things that we do over here. I at CNN it's very unfortunate, but it's it's, it's a pitting of American against American. And honestly, it needs to stop. Honestly, it needs to stop and I'm Ron burgundy. I'm Ron burgundy..
