"Be one of the few doctors offices that go out of business and i'm looking while there's going to be a lot of doctors offices go out of business and there's gonna be a lot of people that don't survive and a lot came very close to that and literally when you're going from that many patients down to fifteen. It was horrible and we were a lot of people. Were furloughing doctors. A lot of people are laying off people in. We're out adventure. Say were one of the few. If not only doctor's office in mobile we lay off any physicians. we didn't even furlough any of our physicians. We just have really good partners and we care about our dogs. We care about our staff. We just hung. I took a loss and hope for the best and and try to come up with new ideas and new ways of generating income. And that's where till health comes in. That's where testing side comes in. That's where pre-operative testing comes in. We did a lot of stuff that people maybe weren't interested in we were able to get through. And now you ask me. it's total different ballgame. now it's the opposite. We're trying to take the load off the clinics. But i'm also wearing enough to know. This could change overnight and we could be back to know patients again. So it's there's no tail now you realistically. I see it as as being pretty crazy for the next two to three months. I see the vaccine coming out things getting a little bit better in slowing down. I think it will get more under control. But i think that will probably be after february. It's interesting enough. Said from the very first covid show 'cause we had jia wiggins on ad sylvia who was an employee attorney for employers. And so you know. I just kept saying to quit. Crowned pitch bigger peonies. Are you unders on and just click. What cryan look for opportunities because there's so much out there that just revealed open for the first time for you. You have to figure out you have to be very fluid in a learn at early on. You've got to find another niche another way to get by another opportunity and we're really big on that you're not going to get a laid out business plan from me other than what i gotta do for the bank. you're not gonna get some detailed plan. You're going get a gut feeling you're going to get what i feel in the community. You're going to get what i get from talking with my trusted partners. Everybody's voices equal. We have four main partner. So you know my twenty five percents not more important than my sister. Twenty five percent but it definitely changes. I like change. I've never been scared of change. And some people just freak the heck out with anxiety on chain. And we've had that i mean we have people who there's people in the community that can handle covid and the change psychological. He's become too much really wanted to ask you. How many mental cases you got coming in versus before. I mean i. It's it's really not. it's not funny. it's not help. People get to the breaking point in feel bad they they get to the point where they don't know how to handle handle it and you know i've been there not to the breaking point but i just wanna go and have a nice dinner and not worry about anymore and i told my wife though like i. Just wanna go have a margarita chips and salsa and go hang out in it. It gets very frustrating in like. I have enough reserve where it doesn't put me over the edge. But yeah i mean i can see why people you know. I bet you and we're not. We don't do a lot of mental health. But i bet you. Mental health is just skyrocketed. I actually knew someone that went through. Something wasn't really. Kobe related but needed to go. Just for a little while and you can find a bed..

"Jia wiggins has lightened mass spirit by coming on the show again and but the top is camilo series. We're going to be talking about. Fm cr a ppp. What the heck those are until everything that we don't know absolutely true. Hey i'm karen i'm former. Cpa entrepreneur business consultant with big ideas. Welcome to cheers to business. Let's start at the very bottom foundation of what we're talking about. Okay so i'll start with the f. f. c. r. a. is the families first corona virus or sponsor act and it is that bid of legislation that we've all been very familiar with that would allow someone to take up to eighty hours. Are you having deja show when kevin. What's your lighter. Yeah so then we were explaining exactly what it was and how employers needed to be aware of it. Because and i stand firmly by what i said all the time ago. I think that was back in against that. Was maybe june may or june. But a what i said was employers need to be really careful into learn as much as they can because whether or not your employees are going to know that thing like the back of their hand and i promise you it's like i'm a profit exactly what i said you're genius annot every i have employers call all the time and they say okay. Well what about specifically must pose no because my employers. Tell me that you know are do this time off. They should get these eighty hours. And i was like toll jal. Did you listen to podcasts. Because they are very aware but the thing that's a really important about the f. f. cr a and all of the conditions within it because there are multiple conditions within it there is a segment you know for if you test positive for it. Or if there is a state mandated quarantine which we had here in the state of alabama And also if you have a medical condition that you need to quarantine by your physician and then there was another section on if you didn't have childcare because daycares of the schools were closed..

"Hey everybody welcome to the show. Small businesses. There's a lot to consider nowadays in today. We have on a guest to help us find out what the new normal in the workplace is. GonNa look like when we come out of this pandemic Dr Jia wiggins and morale resource. She's going to help us with different strategies and how we get back to whatever the new normal is in. How do we think differently and the different normal enjoyed the show? And we wish you stay healthy and safe. Hey I'm Karen I'm a former. Cpa entrepreneur business consultant with big ideas. And on the MOM. I'm Katie I'm a payroll specialist business owner and detail oriented person that makes things happen and the daughter. Welcome to cheers to Business Williams. Thank you so much for being on the today. Your company morale we source is a national company with. That's here locally. Thank goodness for US and today we're GONNA be talking about the new normal. Thank you so much for having me. You know I love being on the show and Yeah. There's so much to talk about about how we get back to normal. Whatever that is you've been on the show towns that. It what we really picked up a lot of new listeners lightly and told a little bit about you wait you do and having insurance morale resources started that company about five years ago. We are a human resources. Consulting Company. A Boutique win it. Bad on our focus is small business human resource strategy so with business owners to kind of figure out where they would lights to be on within the next five ten twenty years and then we building human program for those companies to get them to where they need to go so we focused on compliance. And then do wonderful things. Such as compensation policies procedures performance management and. We just really helped emphasis set themselves up to be successful and then helped to connect them with other partners such as payroll benefits on. Hr In different ADLEMAN resources in order to be able to function within the human resource part of their business in you'd be perfect helping fighting the new book in the new normal absolutely and I think I've had a great opportunity to kind of opt against about what they're doing and how to set them up and also kind of helped to guide them through these very odd on with things such as how to lay off their employees how to set up unemployment things of that nature and policies and procedures to make sure that they're doing them correctly within the confines of law. Bet You've been really busy the last six weeks. I have been extremely busy. The last six weeks I spent a lot of time calming through the regulations that Sierra the cures act much like you have up and make sure that I've attorneys and figuring out the best way to service my clients during these times outed did have a conversation. Unite usually have the best conversations and we were leaning going back to normal as the topic for the show at new. I talked yesterday evening. And tell the turnaround that we came to the topic today. Pretty amazing will in one of our many long along higher associations on we had a great talk about now that on the governors are getting together. They're making the decision. The third point to open the small businesses and they are starting the process to recover our economy. There are lots of workers have one been laid off or to a lot of workers that are now working remotely and slightly different than they did. Two three months ago in because it looks so different it could be a real culture shock to all of a sudden one day. Your boss tells you okay. I expect you to be back at your desk on Monday. Morning at eight o'clock and we're GONNA do exactly what we did three months ago and as humans. It just doesn't work like that for us. Unfortunately we're going to have a new normal and so we were having a conversation about. What does that return the normal load lie and I'm not talking about Maliki into what it's GONNA look like for businesses a year from now. I'm talking about that. Hard transition here yet from going from being laid off and wearing gloves and mass to even go to the grocery store to get eggs to going back to our in being really productive for the company that you work for in to be as engages were before this whole thing happened and so that's a process and I think it's really important that employers and business owners understand that that is the process in their things that you're going to need to do in order to be able to help your employees go back to us. The biggest air quotes possible. Return back to normal conversation yesterday morning with someone that had the traditional office. You know the eight to five. Everybody goes to lunch at the same time. Everybody takes a break down. You know that soldier office atmosphere. He was saying I could get used to this. I said why not want to build that new building. But he said he ever with one time. 'cause we can even put cameras in their homes with a workstation and I thought I just like a brick hit me I was gonNA put a people's houses to watch them work right now in Beijing. That just bothered me. Up and down. But the intrusiveness I o hate intrusive but the mindset of people have been so productive and not been micromanaged with somebody watching over midnight. You're GonNa Watch me all right. Where mistrust right lanes of rebellion and resentment? I think all that's gotta be thought out in. Actually people got out to the teams absolutely one of the things that I've been concerned about specifically for my clients that have allowed their people to work from home in. It's the concept of productivity. What is productivity me so I have a garden and I think I've talked to your back? Multiple Times up planted a garden in my backyard and I am super productive in garden with a glass of wine out. The air you know pruning might tomato plants in pigging hamptons off Ma Okra plants. And I'm really really productive in garden but that doesn't mean that I'm doing all the things that need to be done around my house okay. So that doesn't mean that I was washing clothes. That doesn't mean that I'm you know painting that door all the things that were actually on the to do list in order to make sure. My houses maintain my garbage is pristine but what about everything else and so the question that I have for my clients that are allowing their people to work from home is what are the performance expectations. Did you tell them what you wanted them to do? Do they even know while they're doing what they're doing? So things are different today than they were three months ago. And so yeah. When you were working back in January February I needed you to do went to win three because this is the client base that we had. We had to make sure that we had all these things but businesses changed now. So is your team working productively to do the things that the business dictates in order to be profitable at this point just because they're busy and they're giving you a time sheet. That says that they work eight hours a day. But did they spend eight hours a day doing the things that the business needs in order to be profitable in this new environment and so by setting singles performance expectations in sometimes having to go under. Obasanjo's job descriptions say this is what I need you to work on and sometimes when I need you to work on where before you were just working on servicing clients doing tasks it may be calling all of your clients and having a conversation with immense saying. Hey Are you doing? Is there anything that I can do for you? It may be. Hey you know this project that we put aside because we were so busy with people coming in and out the door. I need you to focus on those projects and so you have to still set those expectations in can't allow the team to just work on the things that they think are imported the managers and the lawyers have to tell the what's important to them at this time as not your possibly pain-free hours a week or work. That's not value added for the company in this new environment. I've never minded if somebody did. Six eight hours worth of work done six hours. The accounting bill for the last few years was going against hourly billing and go into value building that means about performed the service for you for the value of that service. Not How long it took me are so that being said our workers now going to be paid more like that but the value of the worm based on a eight hours a day forty hours a week that structure that we've come from because I think the accountability is going to be so much more important Ryan will just wondering how that's going to fall into place you know somebody wants to put up. Ds needs to be accountability. We actually already put out a post on payroll ball. 'cause girls are loving it at home. And so productive. I've always said that every day you leave your of team. I want you to fill productive instead. They get excited. They want to do more so putting that that prisoner Chisholm. Or WHATEVER THE HELL. It is a round somebody. I don't think I think it's lost. Its power in some respect. And so how does that come in with not Hr but with we wouldn't punishment punishment's not the one I'm looking for but you know how do you control your business when you can't see them to go back to your former point You have a lot more flexibility about the value building. If the person is a salary You have way more flexibility. In that regard I do causton employers with their hourly employees to allow them to work six to pay them a only. Because once you start it it's gotta be nearly impossible to end you know and so you've gotta be very careful about setting precedents because there's a concept called psychological contracts and with the psychological contract it is. What my expectation is you are. Promised me being unpromising? You a certain thing and even if it's not a promise that's been made verbally on paper. I think that I come into work at nights you pay. I come into work and I work. I expect you to treat me fairly and so when there's a reach of this I vo contract engagement. Stay Enzo in scenario where you pay someone. I'm GonNa pay you a hour for doing six hours worth of work right now and then when things go back to more of a normal and then I'm working sixty hours and I'm like okay. Thanks for my pay. Oh no actually. Now we're going to have to change things up a little bit. I do caution people to make. Sure the dose start anything they you're not prepared to get around in that built resentment as well when it's taken awhile boxer. Yeah I was told a eighty year old psychologists who I love. I love that woman adopter last weekend. And she's eighty six now but I told her one time. I said appreciation turns into expectation every time. Yeah she says well you don't do that care and I said Oh. Yeah do she said how do you do it? I said out you the property example when women in our house whoever got to the mailbox I got the mail I was laid a few days. Mahathir was getting it while he'll get it. I appreciate it at the time but then to this day. I expect it. He'll get it right. It's hard to do something nice and be way out there because unfortunately sometimes too many Atta girls will backfire on you. Yeah this is gonNA sound so pessimistic. I've been in. Hr over twenty years. I have been. Hr person for thousands and thousands of people thousands of terminations in hires in my career. And I will tell you. They're very e- circumstances. We are a good deal. Go unfortunately You know I always had the conversation with people about you know things such as bonuses and making sure that win you are attempting to engage. Your team were attempting to rewards ended. It has to be something just not monetary gain because the first year that I get a bonus in December. I'm really appreciative A second year I hit it. It's confirmation and I'm excited. I'm like Oh my God had enough host in a again by the third year. Even if the business takes a downturn in the don't get about then it is you've broken eh psychological contract you have taken away many out of my pocket in your Feeding my children now was not going to buy.
