"Going a mile one eight sanity came back to one and allowance rates down dalbar opening leaks progressive. He's getting five genes. It's been better than star before and again at twelve to one. Can certainly you know the horse with a winning abbots. There's no doubt that he's going to run his race by how good he is. And regarding andy mathis. It's funny that you brought up rape five yesterday. That was seven sisters and ricky gonzales. Going wire-to-wire seven sisters pay twenty eight dollars and this is all hindsight. Twenty twenty handicaps. Seven sisters went into cowbridge one of the van off of a maiden went that earns a circle graph figure that compared favorably to the favorite Taming the tiger who got left at the break but the point is seven. Sisters was a horse that could have been wagered on based purely on last race thorough graph number so that was interesting. Anti mathis had a good summer down here. A couple of days. And jimmy bluejean. I i wouldn't. I would not sell him. Short wide open joe mark mark. Let's go to the john maybe Here is a mile and an eighth for the phillies in mayors the great sioux and Ellen j. foxwoods well represented to say the least. Well yeah this is kind of scramble of a division in california The billionaire grass horses in california. Really they're not that great. i mean. sometimes they show up sometimes they don't we talked about charmaine's mia. She went off form this summer. Princess grace shipped in one. The yellow have been very impressively for mike. She's back east she's pointing to the first lady at keenum and and what we're left with is is kind of a mishmash of the favor of the morning line is number three dog tag and i suppose that you know you can make a case. She's the white favorite. I'm not so sure. She will be there for maximum as the favourite but dog tag three consecutive runner-up finishes she's a non greatest stakes winner She just seems to ball short time and time again she always gets that and she doesn't always deliver. You could probably say something similar about maximum rate and watching the yellow ribbon again. i probably should have picked. Maximum rain on top rather than going to its maximum. Break did not have a great trip. She's not have trouble per se but she got stuck in traffic on the far turn. One hundred ended the wait and wait and wait and by the time he finally bowed room. Princess grace and dog tag had built kicked away and that's raisins all she could do to get third. It would be better than look third-place finish by maximum rate. And then her previous start at a mild one eight in the grade. One gamely all she did this posted thirteen to one upset so maximum rate. I think she's going to be tough on Saturday john maybe. The worst is intriguing. Community that she might be a little bit of a price that still hoping for that is number eight. Going to vegas boy. Begs is greatest. Letters issued the grade three winters so she has a little bit of class he wanted to that last time out by more than three length and three of the horses that she defeated came back to win stakes races including three of them came back to win races to them one minor stakes races going. Vegas is razor sharp right now. I don't know he's good enough to win. A grey too. But i don't know that she's not either. She gets pratt she. She has a running style keepdriving trouble excessive to at lead outrun her odds. I'm not sure if she's good enough to feed maximum rate but those are the two in the baby and again the gravitational california they tend to take turns spend no dominant member of the division time and again we see horses shipping in from the east coast all lot. Princess grace To come out here. Just clean clocks out here in california but the field of mostly moguls. And i expect they're going to vegas and maximum rate will be two principles in john. Baby raised nine on saturday. What do we know about Mike mccarthy's brazilian import. This fast jet court. It's not like michael to just throwers into a great to You know willy nilly well. It actually is because there's really no options. We don't have qualified allowance races out in california there it's still. He's she's group one class in brazil. There's no place else to run and it's fast jet court. Who won six out of nine. And she was a top-class philly down in south america. If she were to pop up and win the maybe it would be a rarity. These south americans tend to require a lot more time to acclimate horses from europe. Northern hemisphere horses coming in from europe retired zero appalachian but when you're switching hemisphere is going from the south to the northern hemisphere. It takes a while for these forced to come around. So i think that that's jet. Court is probably in here just for a prep race race to get started. There's no place else to run I'm i don't really care for her. But i'm extremely interested in watching house. You run because this division is open for a new face and certainly fast yet quarters new face so i think she's up against it but we'll find out a little bit more tomorrow afternoon. You've also got the smoking tomorrow These are the state. Bread phillies The two year olds and Walter sali's with the rock and rye The looks fairly imposing. It seems like Pd miller with the zubov Straight fire philly Might be okay. Who broke through last time when getting on the grass and returns That was actually against open company to which is a kind of an added recommendation Anything in the smoking of note. I'm curious we can. Because peter miller interest bauchi in the generous portion this afternoon as well friday afternoon. But i'm not sure which race she's actually going in unless she's all scratched today I'm not sure either way she's going to be paid faster. So i'm smoking saturday. Afternoon is open to both genders calibrating tools and it kind of looks like walking. Lie lays over the field. We on speed figures she does. But here's the problem with rock and ryan. I mean. he ran fast last time out but he only had three horses behind him was a force field. It was the graduation stakes. He ran fast and he beat remorse. He faces a little bit tougher company tomorrow afternoon beyond smoking. Having said that you know he earned the seventy two buyer going four and a happy and then he came back with a sixty eight in august in his comeback and he should move forward he should be tough to beat them just reluctant to take a short price on a force that earned a big number in four horsfield. I think that there's going to be a little bit more competition on saturday. The i'm smoking for locking ri- heavy said that he's definitely the and walter lease who has won only two races from thirty four starters this summer that stat is so misleading because so we forces are running wild this year there this summer. They're outrunning their price. Time and time again Thirsty is emerging as the top sire out in california. And i think that locking why certainly the horse to a so. He's also had thirsty. Always thirsty always was overmatched last time out in the grade. Two best pal. His win the everett nevin to starts back at pleasanton was decisive. He also is a state thirsty colt. He's dropping from gray to into calibrate restricted race. I think that walter so lease has pretty much wrapped up. Probably with walking y and thirsty. Always they happen to be ninety five five to two. I wish i had a long shot in here. That i kinda liked but i really don't so looks like Rapid lion.

All this due to a trough of low pressure, which will continue digging into the Eastern region, and if we take a look out into the upcoming Mother's Day weekend. Not gonna be too pretty across much of the East. It's not going to rain the entire time. Earlier this month, the Census Bureau argued in federal litigation that there's a high likelihood of quote irreparable harm unquote as a result of inaccurate census data. The judge issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting the Commerce Department and Census Bureau from implementing the shortened sentence schedule until September. 17th court hearing My mama heard men for KPFA news. A federal appeals court ruled today in a case that could have broad implications for the November elections that Florida felons must pay all fines, restitution and legal fees before they can regain their right to vote. Reversing a lower jet court judge's decision that gave Florida felons the right to vote, regardless of outstanding legal obligations. The order from the 11th he was sicker Court of Appeals upheld the position of Republican governor Rhonda Santis and the Republican led state legislature. Leaving voting rights activists aghast under amendment for which Florida voters passed overwhelmingly in 2018. Felons who have completed their sentences would have voting rights restored. Legal dispute arose after lawmakers the next year moved to define what it means to complete a sentence. In addition to prison time served, lawmakers directed that all legal financial obligations, including unpaid fines and restitution would also have to be settled before a felon could be eligible to vote. The appeals court agreed with the Republican lawmakers, a decision that voting rights advocates called an affirmation of a pay to vote system that primarily disenfranchises minorities than for people. The ruling runs counter to the foundational principle that Americans do not have to pay devote, said Julie Evan Stein, senior staff attorney with the American several Liberty's Union's voting rights project. She said. The gravity of this decision cannot be overstated. It is an affront to the spirit of democracy. The decision came on a 6 to 4 vote for judges dissenting. They argued, in part that it is sometimes extremely difficult for returning felons to even know went outstanding financial obligations. They may still have And that, at the very least, the state should create a mechanism to provide them with that information. A federal appeals court dealt another blow to vote by mail advocates in Texas. Pushed by the States, Democrats and some voters to allow mail balloting during the Corona virus pandemic had been upheld by a federal district judge, but a divided three judge panel of the 50 U. S Circuit Court of Appeals. Vacated that ruling. Lee yesterday the panel rejected an argument that vote the vote by mail statute in Texas discriminates on the basis of age. That argument was based on the law allowing people ages 65 over to vote by mail, but not younger voters. Unless they have a disability or other specified reason for casting and absentee ballot. Voters in West Virginia must now go online to request an application for an absentee ballot. Critics of the system say it's tougher for older voters and those without Internet access. And Bernard has the story. The value is calling on West Virginia's secretary of state to automatically male absentee voter applications, as was done for the June primary. As it stands now, for the November election, voters must for the first time in the States election history access the voting application through an online portal to receive one by mail, according to JI, John Stone. Oaks with the view of West Virginia, he says. That's a concern. Because many West Virginians don't have broadband access decorates a bigger problem of Internet access. And then people's access to information, which is why we're asking the secretary of state's office to send out those absentee ballot applications again, Uh, what they can do and which hurting counties like Lincoln County are already doing. He knows his organisation met with Secretary of State Mac Warner who, since he's leaving it up to county clerks to make the decision whether To send out absentee.

"You without a full show getting ready to come on up if you don't know by now the phone number is eight five five two one two for CBS that's eight five five two one two for CBS I encourage you feel free to call in yes I will take your calls that's what the J. R. sport re show is all about I want to know exactly what you're thinking I want to get your thoughts after up mine out there you know it's it's it's really that simple it should be no different than the than the bar that you know I I can't necessarily go through right now wore the backyard because we are exposed to social distance so we're gonna act like we're at the barber shop the backyard the basement we're gonna act like it all we're gonna talk some sports obviously we are post NFL draft so I will be talking about you know a team that we didn't really get a chance to talk about yesterday that is the New England Patriots and I'm really going to drill down a little bit more asked to it's all over folks you know what Tom Brady is going I think that's a reality I think a lot of New England Patriots fans didn't get exactly what they wanted and and in thinking that we're gonna have a transitional period with a quarterback and you know in about fifteen minutes from now I'm gonna get on the phone with Eric at home he's the lead NFL draft analyst for Yahoo sports and he's going to help break down exactly what the New England Patriots did and the strap and what their future is because when I look at the patriots future I basically see avoid this upcoming season so we're gonna talk about that Joe burrow you know that what we're starting to see a lot of these these odds makers pop up in in in Vegas about who's likely to do this and who's likely to do that yesterday I told you the odds were were were highest that cam Newton was going to be joining the New England Patriots I don't know if that's going to be true but you know Vegas also says right now that the odds are highest that Joe burrow becomes the offense of rookie of the year I don't necessarily think so so we'll talk about that for whatever reason Draymond green and Charles Barkley continue to throw lobs back and forth at each other in this time you know Charles Barkley being Charles Barkley he wanted to include our panties and not one of his insults okay so I will provide you details on why the word panties came out of a Charles Barkley's mouth and I at this point in time I just wish Draymond green and Charles Barkley would stop okay speaking of basketball Dacian mix you may not have heard of him but you will probably hear about him much more often he is an NBA prospect who just said I am not going to college I am entering the NBA's reformatted G. league system to get players out so it's a condo insurance of the NBA system and forgo college so we will talk about that in addition I'm going to go ahead and give you my top six NBA players out of high school all time and then you know we've heard some conversations and this was even pre draft about sewer Tonga below in Justin Herbert and you know would go to Miami it went to a fall what Herbert go to Miami and then you have basically what throwing smoke smoke smoke screens around each other and I'm gonna give you some details as to who I think is actually going to turn out of being a better quarterback in who's going to have a better season taking all things into account that we have a sixteen game season SO many things that you hear when you turn on the news or you go online or you read it's like Hey you know the season my get pushed back Hey you didn't know you know we may have a truncated season Superbowl may be at the end of February so everything is real touch and go as we you know continue to go day by day and that's about all we can do and not speaking of day by day it's unfortunate and I think this is something a lot of people need to come to a realization of the New England Patriots a done okay I'm just gonna come out and I'm gonna say it I mean for a team that is has just been legendary the NFL let's think about this for many here that I felt just celebrated one hundred years okay is the NFL they generate billions of dollars they put together fancy commercials over the Super Bowl in pro ball if you watch the Pro Bowl well of all of the legends that have come through the NFL we even saw it are you know out on the field the pregame ceremonies we had all these living legends including bill ballot check who is you know very keen on showing off his his championship rings at any opportunity that he gets and the NFL's been around for a hundred years bill Belichick in the New England Patriots have basically run roughshod through everybody and have been competitive and have been competing for a title for twenty damn years okay one hundred years and almost superb mathematician here but that's off of the league's existence that the New England Patriots and Tom Brady have just been kicking everybody to hell all over the place all right I mean is this twenty years that's that's nine Super Bowl appearances that's six Super Bowl titles us congratulations to the New York Giants and also the Philadelphia Eagles representing the NFC east in preventing Tom Brady and bill Belichick for picking up more but you know what all good things have to come to an end in Tom Brady is going to be in Tampa Bay and we even have a several colors and people who've even tweeted me online and you can also find me online at J. R. sport brief I mean we had a call of the of the day called up and said Hey Jay are you know what if I can get on a plane and travel I'm going to temple to root for Tom Brady I'm getting my Jersey ready getting together with my my buddy and I you know I'm not going to these patriot games I'm not sitting outside in the cold I'm going down the temple to root for Tom and rob Gronkowski in a you know basically this is like New England Patriots south all right and I I think after the draft post draft what we have seen from bill Belichick is that you hate this year this upcoming season whatever it's gonna be for the New England Patriots it's gonna be a wash I'm sorry say there is no competition there is no magic bullet there is no snap your fingers and and and we're gonna be back in and competition that's not going on this year all right if we need to come back to reality about what the New England Patriots are going to do okay this is these are the facts they have not brought in a quarterback okay you go from the arguably the greatest quarterback of all time this is someone who has not thrown up more than four passes in his NFL career in Jarrett Stidham all right I don't care what he did in Auburn where he also was out was okay quarterback he wasn't someone was gonna light the world on fire he wasn't gonna necessarily Ron the only touchdown I saw last season I keep telling you was to the wrong team Jamal Adams of the New York Jets court his only touchdown last season and and why are we to believe that Jarrett Stidham is going to walk out on to that field and now all of a sudden B. not necessarily on par with Tom Brady but be a serviceable NFL quarterback how many quarterbacks in the NFL do you actually trust to go out and win a game think about that if you are an NFL fan and you think about your favorite NFL team and start thinking about all the quarterbacks around the league does your team have a quarterback where you feel confident that you will be in every single game that you can come back from you know maybe let's say two scores down are you confident that your quarterback can lead a two minute drill or drive down the field to win or do you think about your quarterback as someone who is capable of having the **** fumble or running into the opposing a warning it's his own offense of linemen well how about in the case of a Janus Winston you know going out and throwing a pick six and congratulations to James Winston for now well actually signing with the the New Orleans Saints Janus Winston says going into the saints quarterback room is basically going to be like joining you know Harvard it's like Harvard for a quarterback so congratulations to Janus Winston are hopefully now that he has his Lasix eye surgery and he's going to be learning from drew Brees hopefully he can also stop throwing the football to the wrong guy okay so having said that about a stadium what we don't know what the hell he's going to do that's my point if he is of Tom Brady you know they they won twelve games last year they won twelve games in New England patriot's day if you ask me what are our a backwards on offense I mean what help did Tom Brady have I mean he could go ahead and he can give the ball a Saudi Michelle he can go out and throw the ball to James White or Julian Edelman and James White he necessarily even a receiver coming out the backfield what was Tom Brady supposed to do and so what is it I'm supposed to do with okay basically I want to say the same offense what difference is it going to make is he gonna get them seven wins is going to be eight wins well they have a less than that and let's be realistic here unless they go about bringing somebody else in at quarterback you have Brian Hoyer what the hell is to be excited about their nothing nobody nobody wants to see Brian or you're on the field I am not a fan of the New England Patriots and if I saw a Brian wore you out on the field I probably tune in for a couple minutes just to see you know how bad he would mess up before I would change it but nobody expects anything out of him so I don't know how many Jarrett Stidham to Julian Edelman combos that we're going to see I don't know how many they kill Harry touchdowns we're going to see and granite over the years the New England Patriots have drafted you know late in the first round if I don't okay this is what happens when you when you're the best team you ain't gonna drop time that's just it but when is the last time that the New England Patriots actually got someone who can catch the football and do some damage on a consistent basis the reality is it was twenty ten one of those players is named rob Gronkowski and now he's.

"You also have a situation that you guys had to deal with organizationally and feel has given his thoughts. I thought rather eloquently, but there are people that are on both sides of this issue Addison. Russell has not yet met the media. I think that is going to be something he does when he arrives at spring training. But there are people out there who say hold on a second. You're standing by Addison? Russell why how would you answer that? Yeah. Well in this situation in in these situations. There's no there's no one size fits all answer. And there's certainly no easy answer. In our case. We we talked to domestic violence experts. We talked to as in multiple times we got as much information as we could the situation. You know, the fact is that we have a choice to make the choices you can let the player move on. And but it'd be his problem or you can try to let the team be part of helping him deals what he has to deal with and in our case after all of our conversations with both the the outside experts with Addison himself, we decided that the better thing for the player and his family was to kind of help him write it out. And hopefully, he can do what he has to do to improve and to make sure that these. Situations never happen. Again. You know, a lot of ways easier way would be to let them go. And let them see. What happens? I didn't. Go fight is about alone. But you know, we think he's committed to avoiding any type of anything like the closely situations, and you know, we kind of feel like it's the better answer for everyone involved to not just wash our hands of it. But to see if you know, we can't help address and get through this and become a better person and someone who avoids getting himself in situations doing things that that we all find reprehensible if I had said to you ten years ago, people are going to be really ticked off with you, Tom because you cancelled your session at the convention. What would you? You know, if you would have said it two weeks ago. I would have laughed funny part is we can't tell you after last year's convention, and this is a this literally was a decision that was made a while back. We had like the lowest ratings. So we had the lowest rated panel, you know, that day. So, you know, we decided well, look, I mean if it's boring people. And it's not something people are enjoying you know, we can fill another panel in and we can celebrate Lee Smith making the hall of fame or something that's really want to hear about the the funny part is for a couple of years. I got a lot of grief for having a boring panel. We cancelled the panel suddenly now everybody wants to ask questions. So if you're going to convince you this weekend, I'm sorry. We don't have a panel. If you really looking forward to it, which I'm sure you weren't. But if you fill out your questionnaire and ask for us back next year happy to do it. I think I'm as accessible as any odor in sports. And and it was just kind of just kind of a funny situation. Where people want the panel, they can have it. But we were told by our surveys last year, Eddie nears passage. It was it just wasn't a winner. So we tried to move on. So that's about the size of it. I have had multiple fans. Tell me I wrote Mr. Ricketts, and he wrote me back. Your Email is actually accessible and that you answer the emails. Do you find it funny that you try to be acce-? Decibel? Will you continue to be that guy that is in the stands and talks to fans because I think even in the hundred lost seasons that was something that was appreciated or are you going to change the way that you go about your day to day in the ballpark? No changes on the day to day stuff. I I still walk around. Like, I have every year during the games any out, the baseballs and say hi to folks and this weekend, I'll be around to be in the, you know, season ticket holder lounge and walking around and we'll we'll make some appearances. But the yeah, I like that stuff. I really I really enjoy talking to people in the park. And you know, it helps it we've got a lot of feedback from these conversations over the years, and you know, in those lean years law shares it was kind of kept me going when when you have there's a lot of people when you're losing games, and they all want to pile on and a lot of people particularly in like the print media. They wanna you know, they really want to talk about how bad you are. And how stupid you are. But, but when you talk to the fans nineteen out of twenty fans, I talked to during those years, we're just supportive. Okay. You know, we got you know, we know we have to do things differently. We know we have to have a longer term plan. So yeah, I like I like the people that really I like the fans I like walking around I'm not going to change any of that. And if if you enjoyed our panels in previous years, I apologize, but apparently a lot of people. So we got bumped we are ratings were down cap. We got cancelled you've got cancer in terms of the TV network. I know the White Sox bulls and Blackhawks announced their deal at NBC. You guys are going to do your own network. Will we hear anything about that? This weekend is imminent where is the status on that? You know, we're still working on it. I don't think be any announcements this weekend. But you know, the fact is that for for us. It was just time and one of the things that I think marked the Tribune era, and maybe even the Wrigley era before that was not not create long-term decision making. And in this case, you know, given. Given the profile the team and the opportunity to present. I think what's best for the team in the long run is to go down the path where we we look at having our own channel. And and so it's the right thing for the club in the long run. And we have to we have to do it. The details on how it's gonna get done. And all that stuff is all forthcoming last couple things. I have for you. You have a manager. That's averaged over ninety wins. He erased the hunter Nate year ridiculousness and won the World Series three times to the. But he does not have a contract beyond this season. That is a decision. You've always said that. But as the chairman and the owner where is your stance on Joe Madden? Well, you said a Catholic this is this is really up to THEO in Chad. And what they think is the best long run. I actually chose been extremely successful. He's a great guy to hang out with you know, the players love and fans love him. He's he's been a critical component and all the success over the last few years. And we'll see where it goes. I mean, it's not, you know, it's it's as everyone knows it's it's not my it's not my way to to get involved in jumping on these things you hire smart people, and you expect them to make great decisions. And and you judge them by that. So I think that you know, we'll see how it plays out. But this is really, you know, in the jets court last night Barry Bonds was at the Golden State Warriors game, and he got a standing ovation. He's been welcome back to the giants. And he's a hot button topic. When you talk about the all time home, run leader, whatever goes on in that era of baseball. Sammy Sosa did a. A couple of areas. One with me one on ESPN on television. It said I just wanna be welcome back. I don't want a job from Tom. I'm fine in my life. I've got my career. But I wanna be welcomed back as your stance on Sammy changed. You know at the moment. The answer is no nothing's changed. Like I've said in the past. I mean, we everyone loves Sammy as a player one of the greatest players in history of baseball. And we, you know, and and and but he played through a pretty awkward era. And you know, we owe all the guys that played to that area. A lot of understanding. I mean, there was a lot PD's being used by a lot of players. I mean, there's a sealed federal investigation that has over a hundred players that tested positive. So, you know, we we don't wanna I don't wanna judge those guys in a way, that's too harsh. But on the other hand, we all that a little bit of understanding. I think they always a little bit of honesty, I think we need to think it through. So I don't know where it goes from here. But there's nothing new on that front..

He's guy guy. He's not like, Cody parkey. Now, you would love a Jesse Rogers. Here's Tom Ricketts. Joe madden. The one thing. I noticed here is not only does he defer to his baseball people on Joel Madden's future. Putty certainly to Coppell then Jodi am I wrong here? I felt that you felt this is with the cap today when asked about Joel Madden's future. Well, you said a Catholic this is this is really up to see you in Chad. And what they think is the best long run out. She chose Ben extremely successful. He's a great guy to hang out with you know, the players love and fans love him. He's he's been a critical component and all of the success over the last few years. And we'll see where it goes. I know you're the owner. But I I get it. He went away. He went. Yeah. But you're right. I mean, I chuckled as well. But I chuckled knowing also that to me that was the right answer. Yeah. As far as footballs concernable preview championship Sunday as well. Plenty today and tomorrow Todd Furman is gonna join us. We have the. I have this is great because whenever I do. Mitch Trubisky poll question shut your mouth. He's not even directed. At me today. This is just it's people arguing with each other. It could be any sort of question. But one fan is yelling at the other fan about it really is. It's very similar to Cutler. And we did the poll question would you rather have Mitch Trubisky or Jared Goff as your NFL quarterback? And you say why would you guys put that up? Well, it was because there's so many similarities they both had down first years. They were both paired with coaches who won the coach of the year in their rookie seasons as head coaches. They were both surprise teams. The Rams a year ago the bears this year they've sort a mirrored each other with their success in the road. They've been down as while said, they're not comps as far as their game is can they're different players, totally different. Like a lot of people young about we'll Trubisky. He's got the higher QBR stops with all of that. Well, the QBR factors in mobility in rushing yards. And that's where this trubisky's the better athlete, but everybody when you want to support Mitchell Trubisky, everyone goes to QBR. Cutie are is to me is is really not just my opinion is not the thing that you want to look at and favor most, okay, because it factors in running more than you should be factoring in running to a quarterback position in my humble opinion. And who said it before maller. Was it someone that says it's actually goes it's somebody made a reference to it that factors in winning quarterback isn't always responsible. Yeah. So that's and by the same token other people look at another stat. And well, this is the reason why use your is your collection of stats, but don't just don't just fall in love with one particular analytical tool somebody. I just started following this guy to on Twitter. He does a bears blog has some really good thoughts. He tweeted after the chiefs game he the comp between Trubisky and Mahomes first playoff game and their numbers on paper. And he. But yet Mahomes is over loved and no one ever highlights Trubisky. That's where again, the is tell you, and I liked Trubisky. And I think Trubisky set a successful year. And I think he should be pretty good. But by no means should you have ever watched that chiefs game and ever thought in your I don't care what mitch's final numbers were in his first playoff game. I know he threw for over three hundred. He was crap for the first three quarters. He certainly was crap in the first half. Yes. Patrick Mahomes got off to a really big lead early. And then linked true. Andy, Reid fashioned. They sorta dialed it back, and it was a little closer. Then look but Patrick Mahomes played a really good game. No like, you should never look at Patrick Mahomes number in that first game in his first class came in and say, well, you know, what Trubisky it better stats Ninette? No, no, no. Patrick Mahomes at this point. Is in a completely different league than Mitchell Trubisky scored seven offensive points seven they scored one touchdown scored one touchdown in the at home. Nobody could watch Patrick Mahomes play that first playoff game and think that Mitchell Trubisky in his you know, what the fact that you put your suit on and you decided to dive into that pool surprises me because that's a pool that I'm just gonna drive by them and go to another another pool, but the over the top dislike for Trubisky to is in the same sort of vein. It's just it's stupid to say that Mitch Trubisky socks. It's stupid to say, the Mitch Trubisky didn't grow. It's it's you know, there's all on both sides of the Trubisky. Hot button, take it there's weirdness and both side. That's a good good. There's overlap. On both sides agree. And it's not just the people that that Tweety you, Sylvia. I've seen national writers that have commented on Trubisky. And then tweeted, what did I get myself into right, right? And what's his name Lombardi? Season. Mike Lombardi like his over the top dislike for Trubisky is just it's silliness. And he knows way more about football than I could ever dream of by the way that she scored twenty four points in the first quarter of that game. I mean, I'm not I corps first half of that game. Twenty four points. Look at the weather was too. There's a lot of factors that went into that game. But but there's no way at this point. I'm not telling you that in seven years from now things could be different not saying that they may look maybe Trubisky gets there. Maybe he does. But at this point Mitchell Trubisky is not in any league close to Patrick Mahomes. Right. I again. No, he's not I'm with you. I it's like, I don't even want to justify your statement with a response because everything you said doesn't there's there's no dispute. I mean water is wet. Russ's is in Saint John you're on ESPN one thousand eight Ross. Hey, why don't Sylvie thanks for taking my call. You got it chiming chiming in on the Trubisky golf debate. I would definitely take your Bisky just for what Waddell said his skill set. I think is better than galls. However, skill set and how you process information. That's I think that's what makes it. Good quarterback a great quarterback. And my question to you guys. Tom brady. Do you think he'd be the quarterback that he is without Bill bell check in his coaching staff? You know, it's so funny. Russ, thanks for the call. This is like one of those. If there is an unanswerable question. This is the. This version of chicken, or the this is the question in sports that I really wish I could give you a great answer. And it's really think I can it's always been a fascinating one. We've had this conversation over the years who's the more valuable asset. Is it the coach Bill Belichick is it the quarterback Tom Brady would be as successful with without Brady. Oh, we'll look at the year. They had with Matt Cassel then get to the playoffs, but they were eleven and five that year. Well, Tom Brady. I mean, he's never gone anywhere without spill ballot. Check. He's always had Bill. Ballot. Check in his corner. I mean, this to me is the quintessential they both both of their careers have been enhanced greatly by the other person. And I don't want that to be a weenie way of answering it, but I would always listen, I would probably always I would always side with the player. My tendency is always side with a player. I get why some people would. Tell you ballot. Check is the more in disposable component. Yeah. I'm with you. How many rings do do they both have? Now, they both have the same amount. Ballot. Check would not have five rings. If Tom Brady wasn't on his roster. If Drew Bledsoe continued to be as quarterback he would not have five rings. I don't believe that. If Tom Brady was drafted by another coach that he'd have five. Right. I'm with you. I think it's just one of those things where now say the bears would have taken a chance with pick one nine thousand five with Tom Brady still be playing with Tom Brady have won a Super Bowl. I don't Tom Brady be one of the all time greats. Like, I think it's a fascinating it is. It's an aunt for me. I it's just an answerable question. I don't know. I think Tom Brady would find a high level of success. I can't sit here and tell you. I don't think Tom Brady would be all that you know, whatever because. He didn't have Bill ballot. I think you'll good players find success at some level. And he has not been only a good player. He's been a great player would Bill. Ballot. Check have one title without Tom Brady think. Yeah. Probably bill. Pella check would have won a title or two without Tom Brady as well. Because he's the best that has ever done his job in my opinion. There you always talk about football soulmates are certain guys when they find it like Nick foles is a great example of that. Yeah. You know, Nick falls when he found his football soulmate in Doug Peterson became a different quarterback. Just think of the big again when we talked about this the other day Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are playing in their eighth consecutive AFC title game. Tom Brady has gone to thirteen AFC championship games. I think the stat was when you factor in Bill ballot. Check stops at different places as an assistant. I think he's been in the title game in seventeen different years. I believe that's the case. I believe he has gone to seventeen title games. Championship games as a member of whether it was the giants for awhile or is the head coach great giants team. I mean, it's just insane. The level of success that both of them have had both of their careers have been enhanced by the other. Yeah, sure is gonna join us here in a minute Waddle and Silvy on ESPN one thousand Ryan's in Naperville, right? You're on ESPN one thousand. Sylvie whenever really called. I was like. Mitch to not have it down first year. He had a great first year rookie all those circumstances. And you know, I won tickets to the loss. There's soldiers feel for the Rams game. If there's one thing we should all agree on is that if you're never have to come back to Chicago, and he'd be pretty happy about that. Yeah. And if you told me that Mitch was never going to have a game the way he played against the Rams that would be great as well. Was freezing. It happens in his please look bad. But. It was hard to hold the ball the place for which quarterback well for both. Was. About there. This is it. I don't know how you could look at your one of his. Oh, yeah. Can't I know he had a lot working against him lack of creativity with the offensive coordinator not allowed to work with around him. I get why he had limited success. But he had limited success. Let's bring him in our buddy Warburg from the cubs. Joining us in town for the cubs convention and newly engaged as well..

"You know, there's guys that have a few good weeks a few bad weeks. It's hard, and it's something people tweak all the time. So I would imagine that you know, we're not done filling out the bullpen. For the beginning of the year. But I wouldn't lose sleep over what we'll come up with. I think we'll have we'll have guys that can finish games. And you know, and I don't think it's going to be a weakness in our team. You also have a situation that you guys had to deal with organizationally and feel has given his thoughts. And but it'd be his problem or you can try to let the team be part of helping him deals what he has to deal with and in our case after all of our conversations with both the the outside experts with Addison himself, we decided that the better thing for the player and his family was to kind of help him right out. And hopefully, he can do what he has to do to improve and to make sure that these sich. Never happen. Again. You know, a lot of ways easier way would be to let them go. And and let them see what happens. I didn't go fight is about alone. But you know, we think he's committed to avoiding any type of anything like this the closely situations, and you know, we kind of feel like it's the better answer for everyone involved to not just wash our hands of it. But to see if you know, we can't help out and get through this and become a better person and someone who avoids getting himself in situations and doing things that that we all find reprehensible if I had said to you ten years ago, people are going to be really ticked off with you, Tom because you cancel your session at the convention. What would you say? You know, if you would have said it two weeks ago, I would have laughed the funny part is we can't after last year's convention, and this is a this literally was decision that was made a while back. We had like the lowest ratings. So we had the lowest rate of panel, you know, that day. So, you know, we just decided well, look, I mean, if it's boring people, and it's not something people are enjoying you know, we can fill another panel. And we can celebrate Lee Smith making the hall of fame or something that's answer really want to hear about the the funny part is for a couple of years. I got a lot of grief for having a boring panel. And then we cancelled the panel suddenly now everybody wants to ask questions. So if you're going to convince you this weekend, I'm sorry. We don't have a panel. If you really we're looking forward to it, which I'm sure you weren't. But if you fill out your questionnaire and ask for us back next year happy to do it. I think I'm a successful if any odor in sports, and and it was just you just kind of a kind of a funny situation where? If people want the panel, they can have it. But we were told by our surveys last year in years past it was it just wasn't a winner. So we tried to move on. So that's about the size of it. I have had multiple fans. Tell me. Yeah. I wrote Mr. Ricketts, and he wrote me back to your Email is actually accessible and that you answer the emails. Do you find it funny that you try to be accessible? Will you continue to be that guy that is in the stands and talks to fans because I think even in the hundred lost seasons that was something that was appreciated or are you going to change the way that you go about your day to day in the ballpark? No changes on the day to day stuff. I I still walk around. Like I have every year during the games any out the baseballs and say hi to folks and this weekend, I'll be around two. I'll be in the, you know, season ticket season-ticket holder lounge and walking around and we'll we'll make some appearances. But the yeah, I like that stuff. I really I really enjoy talking to people in the park. And you know, it helps it we've got a lot of feedback from these conversations over the years, and you know, in those lean years hundred law shares it was kind of kept me going. You know, when when you have there's a lot of people when you're losing games, and they all want to pile on and a lot of people particularly in like the print media. They wanna they really wanted to like talk about how bad you are. And how stupid you are. But, but when you talk to the fans nineteen out of twenty fans, I talked to during those years, we're just supportive. Okay. You know, we got you know, we know we have to do things differently. We know we have to you know, have a longer term plan. So yeah, I I like I like the people that regularly. I like the fans I like walking around. I'm not going to change any of that. And if if you enjoyed our panels in previous years, I apologize. But apparently a lot of people that we got bumped. We are ratings were down Catholic. Got you got cancer in terms of the TV network and all the White Sox bulls and Blackhawks announced their deal at NBC. You guys are going to do your own network. Will we hear anything about that this weekend? Is it imminent where is the status on that? You know, we're still working on it announcements this weekend. But you know, the fact is that for for us. It was just time, you know, one of the things that I think the Tribune era, and maybe even the Wrigley Arab before that was not not create long term decision making. He erased the hunter mate year ridiculousness and won the World Series three times to the NFL CS. But he does not have a contract beyond this season. That is a and decision. You've always said that. But as the chairman and the owner where is your stance on Joe Madden? Well, you said a cap like this is this is really up to you. And chad. And what they think is the best of long run. I chose been extremely successful. He's a great guy to hang out with you know, the players love and fans love him. He's he's been a critical component and all the success over the last few years. We'll see where it goes. I mean, it's not, you know, it's it's as everyone knows it's it's not my not my way to to get involved in jumping on these things you hire smart people, and you expect them to make great decisions. And and you judge them by that. So I think that you know, we'll see how it plays out. But this is really, you know, in the jets court last night Barry Bonds was at the Golden State Warriors game, and he got a standing ovation. He's been welcome back to the giants. And he's a hot button topic. You know, when you talk about the all time home, run leader, whatever goes on in that era of baseball. Sammy Sosa did. A couple of areas. One with me one on ESPN on television. It's an I just wanna be welcome back. I don't want a job from Tom. I'm fine in my life. I've got my career. But I wanna be welcomed back as your stance on Sammy changed. You know? And at the moment, the answer is no nothing's changed. Like I've said in the past. I mean, we everyone loves Sammy as a player one of the greatest players in history of baseball. And we, you know, and and and but he played through a pretty awkward era. And you know, we owe all the guys that played in that area. A lot of understanding. I mean, there was a lotta PD's being used by a lot of players. I mean, there's a sealed federal investigation that has over a hundred players that tested positive. So you know, we we don't to. I don't wanna judge those guys in a way, that's too harsh. But on the other hand, we all that a little bit of understanding. I think they always a little bit of honesty. I think we need to like think think that through. So I don't know where it goes from here. But there's nothing new on that front. Your sister is. Very involved politically. And she wrote a very eloquent piece that I read I think in Crain's about Tom Tunney who has virtually ruled the forty fourth word ward unopposed. And now, it seems like he is in a battle to keep his seat in large gave a lot of different reasons why she felt change was necessary in the forty fourth ward. What was your take you of your brothers to governor of Nebraska? Your brother Todd has been involved in the president's administration at some. But you take a more reserve role, politically what was your thought on what Laura did? Well, I think Laura first of all I was very well said Laura. Is voicing their frustration. That she has in the family has that for almost ten years now. Right. We've we've contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to the to to the economy of Chicago, thousands and thousands of jobs. We've renovated Wrigley field. We've built up the the neighborhood the hotel the Gallagher way plaza. Like, we've done all this stuff. And and the one person who's fought us all the way, but our own alderman, and you know, going back to the first Toyota sign, you know, to to to fighting for years about the rooftops trying to prevent us from doing video boards. The you know, it just it's it's been an extremely aggravating. You know relationship, and I think we've proven that that what we're trying to do is make the ballpark better and make the neighborhood better. And it when we look at this year's election. We see our aldermen who's very much the old school kind of alderman politician, who you know, who has run the word with without much position for about sixteen years and this year, we see a couple of candidates who might be breath of fresh air with some new leadership. And we basically kind of believe that there's a there's a better answer. So we would just ask people who are voters in the forty fourth ward to take a look at some of the alternatives and and ask themselves, I think they couldn't get better. So that's about the size of it. I mean, I think that all of Chicago is looking for new types of leaders, and we're trying to get out of the past and trying to get away from the kind of things that hold our city back, and and the business practices or the political practices that that makes us. A weaker city and hold us back. And I think we should I think everyone should be looking forward looking for change and trying to find new leadership, and I think that'll take the city forward, and this is an opportunity for people to to get involved with that. So, you know, we'll see where it goes last two things I have for your Cuyler Murray. I know your sports fan. I'm a sports fan is a great player..

"Join me and Evan Roberts tomorrow. The great playmaker. Michael orvin will join us, and we'll preview the big divisional playoff weekend. Coming up in the NFL continue to talk about the jets coaching. Search. We'll continue to talk about what the giants may do Dwayne Haskins is coming out. Now will the giants be interested some hot stove baseball. We'll talk a little NBA is. Well, it's been in going Robertson. The midday ten to one on the fan sports radio one zero one nine FM and sports radio sixty six WFAN and WFAN FM New York forty three here on his Tuesday evening. It's JJ after Joshi's chess game here right here on the fan. So the latest from Adam Schefter age that Mike McCarthy is considering one job and one job only the New York Jets. Now couple of different ways to read that tweet from Schefter. He's in on the jet. He's putting the ball on the jets court. I want the job give me the job. Let's go. But this notion that Mike McCarthy not interested in coaching Couva Browns. I don't buy that for a minute. I think it's more. Did it affect the Cleveland Browns, not interested in hiring, my Bacardi that I think they know they want to hire their offense coordinator, pretty kitchens who got the most out of Baker Mayfield. And is that wrong with that? I was always of the mindset the status quo is probably the best way for Cleveland to move forward. Mccarthy has positives as a higher if he gets the job experience like that. You liked the fact that he's one that's great. What you don't like is the way the last couple of years have gone in Green Bay that's concerning. You don't like the fact that he can get a little pike coaching. And some of these games I've seen that before in the past the other thing, you don't like potentially this personality plane here in New York does McCarthy have the sort of personality that will work amongst the New York media. These are all questions he may be your favorite choice. He may very well get the job, and I wouldn't come on the air and say, it's bad higher. I would just say it's a higher that you have to definitely analyzed the pluses and minuses, and there are no modest is something I simply don't agree with let's head to Irving team. Carl Johnson Carl you're on the fan. JJ? What's up Carl? What's going on? My favorite. I appreciate that car to be great object. Coach, you know. I. GM and actors the. Look at Rogers for the last three years how beat up he got. How many Saxon gets a game? And it wasn't that. He was so agile that would be even worse. He's got the best quarterback in LA. Radi-? I arrived Gers Rodgers can move. Let me tell you something that guy got beat up and the last three years like you wouldn't believe line. I understand I want wanna get on Ted Thompson, that's fine. But I watch the Packers in certain games in question. A lot of the coaching in game decisions. I think a lot of us had those same critiques going back to big games. The conservative point calling in that NFC Tato game. I know people mentioned a fluky onside kick the way that game on folded was bizarre to say, the least conservative way too conservative. I'm also going to look at the last couple of years, and the overall fact that after winning the Super Bowl in two thousand ten twelve time ago now. Two thousand ten season the Packers. Since then the day maximize having the quarterback of all quarterback scenario Rogers, the answer is no. That means the negative. Let's head the Morris county algebra, Sal. You're on the fan. What's happening? Hey JJ. Are you doing tonight? I'm doing okay, man hanging. And now what's happening, bro? I disagree with you on on your neurological, y y you would want a quarterback quarterback coach like Adam gate he failed in Miami. Wouldn't you say that's the same as clip Kingsbury? No, no. No. No, no. I would I would not because Adam gays in the NFL took a team that wasn't that good and got them in the postseason that to me is a good coach shop. But he does players does not too hot a second though, Al they one nothing before he got there. I mean, the dolphins had gone eight years without going into the postseason. Yes, that's true. So what happened? Here's the problem player relationships were a nightmare. And I acknowledge that moving forward it's something Adam gays wherever he's coaching next is going to have to work on. I don't know if he needs a year off. I don't know if he's ready to jump right back into it. But I can find you a lot of positives and wafting Adam gays can coach here in this town and be successful. Why didn't anybody else jump on? While he's been hired a bunch of different PLA. Interviewed a bunch of different places. We'll have to wait and see if he gets another job. Listen, I don't know if he's a slam dunk either I wouldn't necessarily say all Adam gays, slam dunk. No questions asked I acknowledge their concerns there too. But I'm working for a young bright offensive mind with something to prove. And I'm wondering, you know, when you hire a guy hasn't gotten to the top of the mountain in eight years, you have to ask the question. Fair on fair has the game pass Mike McCarthy bio. He might have. But you know, what he might be good for checking, I'm not either. He's coached in cold weather, and what is your football in the middle of November. And December is cold weather coach now gazes coach in Miami. And I don't think he's coast to cold weather team 'cause the northeast he'll the NFL Hoban was an offensive coordinator in Chicago. No, he was an offensive coordinator in Chicago, you only coach one place. So I'm not like this guy's been bouncing around place. The place to place one team in the NFL Miami. Outfits coordinator in Denver is an offense coordinator in Chicago. People skills. That's adam. Now coaching skills people skills McCarthy if he was on the coaching carousel four or five years ago. I think I'd have a much different feel and perception about him. You're hoping if you hire him, it's Andy Reid. We can't city where Andy Reid was Philadelphia for a long time. A run. Its course he needed that new fresh start. He's been great in Kansas City without Smith and Patrick Mahomes. I know they have won the big game. But during the playoffs every year. Hope is bringing McCarthy here would be that part too. He don't want it to be a situation where it's obvious. It's clear as day. This guy shouldn't be an elite anymore. Giving an example Jeff Fisher Jeff Fisher going from Tennessee where by the way the perception around Jeff Fisher after leaving the Tennessee titans. Guys, gluco ch-? I remember I want him to my one of them down in Miami. I wanted the dolphins to hire. Jeff Fisher coach, I admit it. I acknowledge it. He took the Rancho what became obvious in Jeff Fisher's three or four years. Coaching Taylor Rams. The game pass them by. I'm not saying the game is passed Mike McCarthy by. Absolutely be concerned about but said, upstate New York. Sean, Sean, you're on the fact, hey, what's up JJ? How are you, Sean? I'm doing okay, man. What's happening, bro? I totally agree with your assessment on Mike McCarthy. I don't understand what the love fest is for him and Dale play calling. He's really not utilize down in the right way. And you know, a little thing. I find interesting is that this report I saw the same thing from you that Schefter set that Mike McCarthy just wants to be considered for the jets job. But I was just watching that tech thirty NFL total access year Rappaport said that the jets were thoroughly impressed with Adam case. So I don't know what to make of that. I think it's fifty fifty right now between those two guys. Now, it is possible among comes in and wiles them maybe be enemy comes in. And while some but you start to get the Senate to take the enemy for a coaching interview. Yeah. I think he's a guy that would intrigue me though, because. I'll look at Nagy and I look at Peterson. And I liked the fact that the last two guys to come off the coaching tree have gone places and have had resounding success. I think that's great. I agree. I just haven't seen them seeing. Like, usually you see that they asked to interview this guy this guy. They've only interview what three or four guys. And then that's it. You don't see anymore now. They're focusing on McCarthy who would be terrible just let's just beyond the kid be terrible for them gays would be a good higher. I don't understand the Abraham. I'm a die hard fan. I like how Shanahan offense of minded Adam piece. He he's young player problem. Well, that's the issue though, Sean Shanahan is beloved by his players denied owners play for Kyle Shanahan. He did. A brilliant job calling plays in Atlanta. And here's is quarterback. And Jimmy Garoppolo Adam days that has a reputation for being a guy that doesn't care. What you think doesn't care what his owner? Thanks care players think it's going to do things as well. That's fine. If you win a lot of games the last two years of Miami. Now he's had to deal with adversity. He's had situation. Go wall losing tannahill Zappa to begin with stop Cutler not having a bye week last year a lot of injuries this year. But. That's something. I'm sure the jets had to ask about. Why did these relationships? Going the wrong direction. Why did you develop this sort of reputation night you're impossible at work with? I'm finding out if I'm academy Johnson. But in the same way, I'm gonna find out that simple. I'm gonna ask Alec McCarthy. Why did go wrong green better last couple of years? Why did it seem like you play calls? We'll rather stout. Why did you not get more out of Roger I gotta find this out? Mccartney may come in that situation run. Its course. I'm ready for a new start. I'm ready for a new quarterback. I'm gonna mould him the way I molded Aaron Rodgers that may be good enough for the jets. It'd better be can't screw this up. Can't get this wrong. Too much on the line here for the Jess. Indianapolis Vinnie's up next on a foul is of any on brother. Thank you gotta bro. A check. And did. All right. I like this Mike McCarthy I like Adam gays. I think a lot of this stuff is gonna come down to these guys in clearly coach they proved to the NFL Adam gates horrible dolphins game took them to the playoffs. You may not like you got a lot out of them. But I think a lot of this is gonna come down to the canyon put the white players on the field because it seems like that Christopher Johnston all the coach to report the indirectly where and the head coach isn't going to have a lot of the input on that. So if he's going to be running the show here might be put together a decent draft and get a couple of guys in here. That's totally fair. I mean, you got a top five pick you gotta blow to salary cap space. This team's gotta get a lot better. No matter who the coach may be they gotta get a lot better. And. I would not be surprised to see the jets take that third pick. And maybe try to explore the idea of moving down think about how that worked out for Indianapolis Indianapolis found the jets their quarterback needed team. They moved down. They acquit Nelson. And also got a guy by the name of Darius Leonard as that working out. Ten fifty five here on this Tuesday evening. It's JJ after dark chassis Stransky company right here on the fan. So Mike McCarthy is the choice to be the next head coach are you satisfied you to roll the somewhere in between. I don't think it's as much of a slam dunk as many of you are making it out to be. So we got a lot more on that will get to the NFL plaster also gonna get to Saint John's what a brutal loss they had here against Villanova hour two JJ after dark, and it's coming up next here on a fat..

"I think that makes sense know look at the contracts they ended up just signed syrian so they have that kind of big bully safety in the middle of the field but it getting a guy that can be a little bit more of a center fielder i mean you emily cooker to logan ryan sip in all the guys they have in the front seven you're a guy that's really gets after the ball i think it becomes dangerous in her corner still their biggest need in my opinion outside of logan ryan but the general certainly he does not have a lot of money left on his deal out to the sheer so if you think hookers the guy and can really help your defense right away you figure out how to use him as a third safety in some packages i do think that's the area of their team with the the most help i we'll talk about this later there's one guy that i would love to see fall and fall to them but i think five as little rich for him at this at this point who's that i title i want we'll talk about i'm teasing danny we're talking about later the show i montana learn about this has buddy love let's get into the let's get into the jets at six my first thought i just i've written by notes here is a look at the jets roster man the jets are off the jets are so bad i it's really remarkable how every single shrink the jets used to have it's no longer strength go the jets office vice pretty good nope when the side all those corners the jets court defensive back because you know they fix it in a hurry it's going well nope there are so many spots where they could pick somebody and not even think about it and again quarterback is one of those spots for this team kevin i where would you even start.
