"All right, thanks for doing this. Thank you. Bleacher tweets, already buster bleacher tweets for a Friday. A couple things to clear off the top here. Some rant related things. Let's go, let's go to you because you ran it about people saying they don't like the mic'd up interviews during games. You were vindicated when Patrick wisdom came on here today, said he enjoyed doing them. And then Jessie Bates all at context collapse rights and due to the recent rant in defense of Mike players. I'm forced to join the chorus of fans who despise in game quote unquote interviews, aka listened to the players grunt and hearing Mike's fail and as the single greatest factor destroying the game today, buster, that's a hot take from Jesse. I don't think he was. Well, and I can't tell. I mean, that sentence right there is a single greatest factor to destroying the game today. Looking for the evidence, the game is being destroyed. It's an $11 billion industry, ratings are up. Attendance seems to be up early on. I'm kind of I'm looking for the evidence that the game is being destroyed, Taylor. Jesse, can you present some? You know, maybe Mookie betts, Mike will go out and Jessie will be vindicated. Oh my gosh. As I said to Patrick about, you know, players with. God help us if Mookie betts makes a mistake on the field while he's talking on the microphone. That's all I'm going to say. We'll be collectively crossing our fingers. What did you think about Ali marl's quote unquote, rant? I'll say, he was very, he's kind of a soft spoken guy, so I feel like he could have taken the energy up a couple more notches to sell it because his team's not a bad way. He's pretty intense. I will tell you that. Oh, yeah. It was interesting to read the stories because of the understated nature of that you cited. It's not like you screaming at reporters the other day, but it certainly got a ton of attention in St. Louis and people understood. This was Ali trying to make a stand. Back his players to let everybody know, I think it was Derek gold, my good friend, it covers the cardinals who essentially wrote like you could feel that he was looking for an opportunity to say something like that. Maybe to fire up his own players. If that's the case, man, they're going to need a lot more than, you know, a manager rant in a press conference setting. Yeah, and we've talked about this before. You mentioned with Ravi. The cardinals are so buttoned up. The fact that this the video of this is out there on the Internet, I kind of feel like that was purposeful almost. To just to make sure that the players didn't, they couldn't miss it and could see that he's serious. He means business here. One last thing before we get into more tweets here, buster, you've been we've buried the Orioles here. I mean, they are, they've won 7 straight series. They didn't look great against the royals that game yesterday was weird. They've got a really tough series against the brave this weekend. They've got the raise right after that. If I could extend any advice to people listening right now, dean Kramer against max fried tonight bet it all on the braves man team Cramer's been so bad. And I'm looking at it as you say this. I should say, as you're telling us this, okay? You're wearing an Orioles cap. Yup. So you understand your team, right? Yeah, that's I said it. Don't be afraid to bet against your team because you know him better than anyone else. Dean Kramer has not looked good. I mean, maybe one time this year, maybe like his second start, but he was really bad last time out. And then the oh, they're going against max farid Spencer strider and Bryce elder. Kyle Brady on Saturday, Tyler wells, who's been pretty good this year. I mean, it's gonna be tough. And then the race on Monday. So I don't know, you know, they had a good April, good start to May here, but from now on, I think it's just trying to keep things at 500. What do you think? Well, if they play 500 against these two teams, that's pretty good, because I think there's no question. Raise are the best team in baseball and the braves of the second best team in baseball. And I think and then there's a gap. You know? And then there's a gap in the Orioles are trying to be the team that's going to fill that three spot, especially with the Astros having dealt with these starting pitching injuries and the American League west being thrown into some chaos. All right. It was fun. Let's get back to the tweets here. Mark Stevens at writer Stevens writes, and hey buster, the chat with Bruce bochy on the rule change that protected catchers from dangerous slides was great. Think bean balls will ever get back in the forefront as a rule change consideration what will it take? No, I don't think that's going to change, you know, I've always often wondered if they were to ever invoke a rule that if you leave the dugout if you leave the bullpen you would face suspension that would end like the bean balls and the brawls in that whole thing. And here's the thing about bean balls. I think there are a lot of cases in which it's really hard to judge intent. And I would not want to, especially in this era where pictures are basically this generation pictures are training to throw the ball as hard as they possibly can and they're not focusing so much on command. I just don't think you can just suspend players without knowing exactly what's in their hearts and in most cases you don't know. Right. Does that make sense? Yeah, yeah. I think and they'll do it. Like if it's an obvious retaliation, I feel like we've seen suspensions am I wrong there? But

"Odo Beckham junior right now? Listen, he had 12 teams in his workout and everybody that saw the tape was impressed. The issue I think is the price. The price hasn't matched so far with what a team is willing to spend on Odell Beckham junior right now. Now there are not a lot of top end wide receivers available in free agency. The draft is not as deep at that position as it normally might be. So you're waiting to see if there's a team out there that's willing to go spend on Odell Beckham junior who worked out for all those teams last week was coming off the knee injury who looked good during the workout. It's a question of where does he fit? What is the price? Who's going to work it out and who wants to make that connection? And now we just wait to see. Yeah, I mean, and I'm looking around thinking of teams that really probably need him. And one of the teams that comes to mind when you think about actually meeting receivers in general, wide receiver Jacoby Myers, a former patriot, now to the Raiders. Dan, why did the country maybe like somebody else? Well, I think if you're New England, one, you have a bottom 5 skill position group in the NFL right now. I can make the case bottom three. So it's really OBJ, got to go get them. Are you going to trade for de hop if you can? Or if not the draft. Those are really like the realistic choices. Let me read everybody what the Patriots pass catching group looks like right now. First of all, you don't have a single receiver on your team or past catcher over 500 yards. Hunter Henry, your leading receiver at 41 catches last year. Your second receiver, Kendrick born at 35, devonta Parker had 31 and taekwon Thornton at 22. That's right now where you're going into your third year with Mac Jones going, hey, we got to see if you're the guy. This is what right now on March 14th, you're rolling out with the only two teams that I sit here and go are worse in that unit as far as pass catchers are Houston and Carolina now that they've traded DJ Moore. Tennessee's at least got a first rounder. Baltimore at least says Mark Andrews in her first rounder, Arizona. Right now has Deandre Hopkins. New England, you have the third worst pass catching unit in the NFL. If you think you can make any kind of evaluation on Mac Jones in his third season, you have no choice but to go get Odell Beckham and somebody, Odell, diop, the draft. You saying what's logical? And you talking about it from the prison annually. Odell Beckham junior don't want to go to New England because you ain't winning nothing. And the stage ain't big enough. Because you have a decent amount of control here. You don't have some control now. Adam brought up a great point about the money, right? Like based on what he's looking for is two destinations, I think, Odell Beckham junior is looking for. He'll win more in Dallas, he'll win more in Kansas City. Because Odell Beckham junior has to have the mindset that I'm on a one year deal, right? The injury to me caught should cause him to take a step back and say, let me go and do what I did again for an entire season. Like I showed up for the rams and showed that I was still a number one guy and an elite receiver coming off this injury. And then go out to the market next year. The only pushback I would say to you is I don't think Dallas and Kansas City have to pay him. That money that he wants. I think New England does. Well, that's, but if it's strictly for him about money deal, we are very on the same page and logical. But I just don't believe at this stage and Odell Beckham junior's career that he's going to be a building project for a football team to try to determine if your quarterback is good enough. 'cause he ain't even gonna win his division. Let alone trying to make a playoff run and be in that moment that he wants to be in. That's the only reason he went to LA. I mean, I get your point. The only thing you wonder is if they got him and somehow he knew they were also getting a Deandre Hopkins. But also, but also what makes you think, what makes you what makes you think that Bill Belichick gonna pay $20 million for Odell Beckham junior? He not gonna do that. I just gave you what they are as a kid. He's not gonna do that. They gotta stop thinking Tom Brady still there. We living in a time with New England where we've been talking about being devoid of talent. This is the first year we talked about having issues with that wide receiver. I don't hate Dallas in Kansas City forum. If it's about like, I wanna go prove my production and go catch it. Absolutely. That's what I'm thinking. I understand that. And at that point, if he thinks about winning championships, you probably relent a little bit on the money. He already has Super Bowl champion. Right. Right. All right, day two of free agency underway, Adam. What's been going on? We just talked about Jacoby Myers to Vegas. What else do we need to know? Let's start with Darren Waller. Darren wall traded today to the New York Giants for a third round pick in this upcoming draft a hundredth overall selection, which oh, by the way, the Giants got from the Kansas City Chiefs for kadarius Tony, which the Kansas City Chiefs got when they lost Ryan polls to the Chicago Bears. So Ryan polls essentially started that pick and it ends with Darren Waller going to New York in the selection going to Las Vegas instead. And that trade was made possible by the fact that earlier in the day the raiders signed Jacoby Myers who reached agreement, the dolphin sign, a pair of their own running backs today, Raheem mostert and Jeff Wilson, both re up on two year deals, most starts worth up to 7.6. Wilson's worth up to 8.2, both incentives in there, dolphins get to keep both their running backs and that is something that that was important for that offense here moving forward. They'll Los Angeles chargers running back Austin was granted permission today to seek a trade. He's got one year left on his contract, $6.25 million left in that deal. The running back market right now is bad in the National Football League for free agent running backs, but Austin Eckler wants a new deal and feels like he deserves one and his production is almost unmatched across the NFL. We'll see if the charters work out a deal for him and the New York Jets are closing in on an agreement for Alan lazard that would be a four year $44 million deal. Just told moments ago, it's not done yet, but they've been working to this all day long overnight, denied those numbers overnight, but yes, that is going to be the deal of him when it does get done with the New York Jets and that is obviously a breadcrumb to what's going on in New York as we all wait for the Aaron Rodgers decision, right? But Al Lazar going to the jets. Oh, that's interesting. And they're interested in Randall Cobb and Mercedes. That's interesting. As Brian winners say something is going on. I think that makes sense. I think that makes their offense better. I think lazard is the number two outside of Garrett Wilson elevates their office. Listen, they've got a lot more of these guys they got to add to make Aaron Rodgers happy. And by the way, speaking of the jets interest in former packers, Brian Clark tweeted this thought, he said, Aaron Rodgers is going to keep the homies employed. He's a real friend. RC, when your deal's up, can you do the same for us? I know, yeah, what RC, tell them they got to keep all of us or you're leaving. That's what the power he has. Okay, here's a look at ESPN's top 5 free agents entering this off season. As you can see, four of the top 5 have already agreed to deals, which Ivan hargrave going to San Francisco, Mike mcglinchy, headed to Denver, Jamal jamel dean staying foot in Tampa, Jessie Bates, going to Atlanta. However, the top free agent Orlando Brown junior still remains out there. Remember the chiefs agreed to a blockbuster deal with juwan Taylor yesterday, so kind of looking a little iffy for Brown, but Dan if Brown does not return to Kansas City, we have concerns for mahomes protection when you think about what that O line will look like? No, one because Brett veteran general managers drafted creed Humphrey, their center in Trey Smith, their right guard in the last couple years. So this organization does a great job of identifying talented draft and then developing that offensive on challenge. Number two, Patrick Mahomes, the ball out, the way that he controls the pass rush the way he's learned to do that over the past couple years and then Andy Reid. I'll go back to the Super Bowl. They put against the team that had the most sacks in the NFL, and I understand the surface wasn't great, but in most sex and the info on what 40 years in Philadelphia, they got nothing. So I think the group can control that unit still really good. And it's really Lucas kneeing who should play right tackle for them has to stay healthy. Yeah, look, Chicago Bears need to be on the phone. That's number one right now. New England Pittsburgh, England Pittsburgh but to meet Chicago, right? When you look at what they've been building, pay attention to what Chicago is doing. They're solidifying their front 7. This league is still about the line of scrimmage and guys that can make plays down here. Protecting your quarterback getting after the pass. Orlando Brown is one of those guys that has proved this protection, Justin feels movement will help him as well. I think the Chicago Bears make this move. I think it's taking so long shifter. You would know more than me

"He's going to answer questions. I'm sure on a regular basis. Maybe not every single week but on a regular basis about jessie bates bates today talked about that fourth. And one yes he said i was pissed off right. He made that decision right. I wonder in an alternate universe. Where jesse betas a four year. Shiny extension is pissed off is he. Does he say that he probably pissed off but does he say or in. That's the part. He knows like the first time that jessie bates has a great game where he makes a game changing play and now all right zach. Talk about the play of jessie bates. How about that play. That he made the save the game. Yeah oh by the way. Why haven't they paid them. It's not saks decision but but he's got to face the question. That is a tough spot. Not fair to the head coach. Who for two years. I'm not saying zach is great but for two two and a half years. I said to answer constantly things that he had little control over or that. We're working against him. Why why create the hassle for your coach. I don't know. I don't know why you create the the headache again unless bates is asking for the world in a contract. Maybe it feels unlikely that he's asking for the world. I might be wrong right but like you can't give them seventeen million per over the next four like that contract really going to be that bad because that's how the bengals but say they will look at it. They'd be like look. We do things with twenty twenty three and twenty twenty four in mind. How how part.

"And they're not that's mystifying to me. If i'm t- higgins and i'm having a conversation with my and i'm like man you know if i catch one hundred balls this year gopher yards next year i do the same. Are they really gonna negotiate every penny with me. Is it really going to be this hard for me to get another deal. If i'm tither boy. I got a couple of years left on my deal. I do everything right. I'm a captain this year for the first time. I'm leading this young wide receiver core. I'm probably the best receiver in that room. Which is very talented. Are we gonna nickel-and-dime each other during this negotiation process as we try to move forward jonesboro. Same thing are you gonna are you not that. You're going to negotiate with him like that but is me on defense. He's the leader of the defense. Yeah and he's the captain and he's the guy that steals the steers the ship and makes all the calls and and you're really going to do this with him. Like just get it done. And my theory on this and it's not source Is guaranteed money the bengals. They're like the steelers they do not give guaranteed money outside of joe bro. And jomar chase thirty. Plus million guaranteed on both of their deals because rookie contracts no guaranteed money outside of the most guaranteed money. They've given us the dj reader of all these free agents sandwiches around twenty million. Jamal adams i said it. Thirty eight million guaranteed. The steelers broke their mold in their their norm to get the t. J. watt deal done Will the bengals do it for bates. So far i think what we're seeing as they won't that they're not willing to come close to that. And i think that's what it's gonna come down to marvin jones guaranteed money. I think they were offering him similar money But maybe he wanted to be a one like everyone talked about. He wasn't really a one in detroit. Ever but guaranteed money. That part matters. And if i'm if. I'm jessie bates agent why would you let him sign a deal where he's getting. Eighteen million guaranteed or fifteen million dollars. Guaranteed when jamal adams got thirty eight. I agree wholeheartedly. I mean i agree wholeheartedly. And you're right about all that and make sense..

"Hundred. Wwl w before talking about jessie bates Quickly here the the fumble. The dalvand cook fumble. That is just not a play. That's going to be overturned with the angles. we saw. Would you agree a hundred percent one hundred percent. That's when the bengals favor in sometimes you get lucky I know a lot of bengals fins like our unlucky and never get lucky. Got lucky there and you'll take it and you run and you don't complain and that's it because i'm a vikings fan today. I'm like come on. Now it's unfortunate. I'm walking out and somebody said to me. That is the second most famous fumbling. Paul brown stadium history. And i go in this moment of triumph wide. Why do you have to remind me of jeremy hill. That's proved in this moment of elation. I thought you were talking about andy. Dalton diving fumble in two thousand thirteen against the charges. I was joking. The point is is there's been hartsville. Giovanni bernard one as a lot more than yesterday but yesterday was one that worked in the right direction was in our favorites in one thousand nine hundred so this is how much of a nerd. I am nine hundred ninety seven season. Open okay larry. Centers of the cardinals had a critical late-game fumble which opened the door to allow jeff blake. To for the game winning touchdown. Pass to carl pickens seven and nine that year. I believe the seven and nine ninety seven years. Sounds about yeah. Ninety one game 'cause it led them to nine or seven and nine and there was hope. Yeah that ended up three games. That was his first full season. Okay season opener. Larry centers critical fumble bengals boomers last year. Yes so boomer comes back and play the last six weeks. Yep right yeah. So he went four and one down the stretch. But yes so. The season started with a larry centers fumble larry centers fumble. They go seven to nine. Larry centers fumbled this year. Eight nine. there you go. We're not a larry center. You okay with that eight lens dude..

"So again just just. That's just having faith in our players that we're gonna make it work but we're gonna be aggressive and we're going to have that mindset we're not gonna let other teams dictate what happens in the game that jessie bates said that he was a little ticked off. That you guys went forth unwanted your own thirty. He was upset. Gave up the touchdown. Maybe he's not as upset if they don't give up the touchdown the defensive unit but i'm just curious. Are you going to say anything to jesse when he voices his displeasure with you going for it on fourth and one there. I've talked to the team about it. So we're on the same pitch. Can i ask you one other thing about details when you're looking at film in the fourth and one that you converted with cj. It seemed like he did a great job of selling line of scrimmage a great crackdown block before he released for the past and also mitchell wilcox coming across the field drawing two defenders as a coaching staff. How much do you look at little details in a play like that and tell everybody else says is what makes that play work. Yeah it's it's it's A concept within a family that we've really spent a lot of time this offseason detailing. I'm not so much and thirteen personnel time. It comes up in eleven personnel but this is part of that family and everyone has a job to do and the players certainly works. You know in a really short yardage situation where they're all mugged up in there like they are there dan coverage and there's essentially a mesh concept going on or there's a bunch of picks happening and so again everyone just understanding what the role is doing their job. When you got all twenty two guys in the frame that it's going to be a little bit messy because there's so many bodies people are going to cloud But but fortunately joe has run that play enough where again he can get a one two three and his progression and not panic and nowhere. Everyone's gonna be and cj ended up being the right spot began us knowing what to do them. Having to fight through. All the traffic at the end of the day is what helps that. Play work coach. Can you talk a little bit about facing off against andy dalton this week in a little early look at the bears and he's obviously been pointing a high level for a long time and he's a smart player is going to put his team in a great position to do really good. Thanks and so we certainly have a work cut out for us. It's a really good team. twenty two fourteen there in the mid third quarter. Yesterday i stayed awake to watch the first half on tv and looked like the the rams got a lot of momentum early but the bears were able to fight back put themselves in a position before the game kind of broke up in their late but It's a team that that point over the years..

"They're going to face all year at wide receiver that was really really encouraging and part of that also has to do with jessie bates on the back end. Those guys can hide hide flaws. And i do think that it was fair to say that. He is cornerback. one. I know they're not paying him. What they're paying wayne's right. But i think plays he's quarterback zero guys not play snap. You said that. I look nothing against the guy. But that's what he is not his fault but he's in the crazy part about it is i think he makes that tackle like he's tackling. Cornerback right and i thought that dalvin cook was going to be able to be the one that forces eli apple to. Misadventure tackles now. That didn't happen because the defensive line how they played. But not having wayne's if they do get him back at some point he he certainly upgrade from apple which probably isn't hard to do after yesterday's talking about the offensive line five sacks. Yup joe was hit if you pile on top of that. The twelve pressures. He was a bunch rolled his ankle late in the game. The i think we put some j. p. rhine vacation not have him in pass protection anymore because that was terrible. Assess for me that unit. Because i can point to mix and still had a one hundred twenty seven yard day on the ground one twenty seven one fifty total with three passes and had a productive day on the ground really. Didn't rip off any many long runs but still productive day on the ground. Doubt joe was good enough to have a statistically the day that he had at the same time it did feel like he was under pressure. More than we were hoping in the five sack total. That's not gonna work. That's not going to sustain. We talked about this season being one. You've got to keep joe borough upright. It's very easy to do this. He's on pack to be sacked on pace to be sacked eighty times. I ain't gonna work. No it's not gonna work is entirely too much. You got hit too much in the thing was is. The offense was running through mixing He leads the team in touches. Has a bunch of touches. Twenty nine carries like you mentioned for research also design. That's what's supposed to happen for sure. Yeah yeah i'm not complaining. That he was on the field for fifty four snaps. And i might be wrong on that. Seventy percent of the snap had sixty nine total on offense and he had thirty-three touches so that's great especially if it's productive But if you're doing that burrows shouldn't be getting hit like he was and so there's the concern that the issue and this is why i would have played trae hopkins in the preseason. I think he clearly looked like he was rusty. I get it hell. I didn't tornado in january..

"Chase works out the top five teams. I will be catched. A few balls early on for like for him for the bengals. everybody like they. They tried to do that in boroughs. One thrown preseason. They tried throwing this quick screen. Easy completion early on didn't work. Out that way he higgins was really really good as rookie year. tyler voids always good. They have joe mix. And i think a lot of bangor guys count on bagels scenes before borough got her. That's my only thing here. Like dow galvin could score plus touch three ten. Going to have a big. Who's on the bengals defeats. They brought in hendrickson. That's a pickup. They brought in mike. Kill them from the steelers. Who was incredible. Incredible corner safety. They paid sam hubbard to gave him. A deal was a big time signing last off season but can get the play because he got hurt in october so he basically missed the entire season. he'll be back and then jessie bates says that's who it is. Yeah so you got some guys. Let's see let's see what the bengals art. Let's see how joey be looks. Here's one here's a good one. Dolphins at patriots minus three mac jones versus to tie up town tonga below. Is that how example maggie by lola. Okay but what about that. Guy who wrote tonga javard. That letter forget about that guy. Never mind yeah you don't ask me. I mean we know where. I stand on this police. I mean i think patriots win patriots cover on this me to age. What do you think i'm. I'm intrigued to see what the dolphins look like. I mean i don't know. I have no idea doesn't just lay like they need to have a good game whether they win or lose. They need they need some hope out of that position. So this is the thing the way they've kind of redesign their offense is everything's motion. They're moving everything if bill you know shuts them down. Keep that offense going. Like i've said this a million times give two of the year and let's see what the hell we got. You drafted the guy for a reason you also to go we'll fuller and he's not gonna play for the first couple of weeks so you got to wait till he's offense to work. I mean i to have weapons with with fuller and devante august. He's flying around leschi sca- skins gaskins. Yeah but i mean. The patriots are going to be way better than they were last year. Patriots defense they got all their guys. Back like yeah. My biggest thing just with the patriots is that they're not gonna have their starting left tackle and basically all words out of camp bit about mack jones but when they do talk about the defense they talk about how it should be a top five defense on top five patio lines fucking top five lines very good on this matchup to historically the home team covers and with. That's just how this matchup has gone forever. Miami miami news new england. Hopefully that remains the same. Because i will not be able to sit here in a car. You do not play the money. That's right to spread million all right so you pick two games against the spread. You win those two games and use hashtag. Pms feel good friday. You will have a chance at winning ten k. How is a feel-good front. How do we know though. I would know that you guys just aren't going through and picking your your butts. Nobody knows giving them ten grand. Because while many many many many times as part of that profit we have shown how we picked this and zito puts in the hashtag also. You don't want to give our buddies grand. We want them to. You want to give them ten though if you if you have a deal where you get five not everyone's shit like a benefit three goddamn right. How much money do you give the refs when you're coaching on the weekends. Maybe i should try that. Maybe that'll help me out. Let my put the crown of his helmet through that other fucking kids. Jog assign a jersey. I was thinking with your end zone. Problem with my kid with the four and five year olds play electronic football where you just turn on the electricity and the football players on the field. Just fucking bezerra course. Just put dog collars on the kids next an electric fence around the field and they won't get by week four or five. After they've gotten shocked one hundred times they will probably figured out. My dog is currently doing it and he is getting it. He understands it very well now. Okay i'll send on the email all the parents. I'm sure they'll be the babies live up. Hold one question for aj while we're still on spreads go ahead. What do you think about the ohio state game tomorrow. Aj minus fourteen and a half against the oregon. Ducks does not seem a bit high for this. Was supposed to be like a big blockbuster matchup well. They lost their potential number. One overall pick the end Pretty sure he's out with a high ankle still does feel like that's a lot and a half. Yeah against minnesota. you would think that oregon's better than minnesota even though it's home versus on the road showed rock and timber does not playing. He's not playing. You know so fresno state catch a pretty close worthiness looking ahead out. Yeah big noon. Kickoff is here. It's a big big week weekend here for us home. Open cody you're letterman check. "As much as we all want to stay here. I think what. Luke fickle has done is he has highlighted the attractiveness of this job gig. So really really good. You can win here. There's good recruiting in the area. Fans are engaged to beg people to football games. I wasn't always the case. You don't have to beg to get the stadium. Redone wasn't always the case. By the way the big twelve money jason points out in his piece big twelve money can be used to build a facility. he's looking for. There's there's a lot to love about this gig. Took good job might have been a good job five years ago though. It was hard to say you see. Football was an asset now nationally. It's an asset. It brings something of value to what matters most in college sports. A football program that can carry the athletic department football program that has nationally relevance this is great for the big twelve and look sure they'd rather have oklahoma texas. I'm sure they prefer to not be rated constantly by the sec but understanding that those things have already happened. You're looking for assets. The university of cincinnati is absolutely one absolutely one but more importantly for me in to me. This is what is so exciting about where this goes next. The american athletic conference let. Let's face it. It served its purpose right when the big twelve or i'm sorry when the biggest unraveled almost ten years ago you needed a home. The the was sort of born out of necessity. Here's a bunch of sort of drifting aimlessly schools. That are they need a home. There's some commonality but there's not a ton of commonality and so almost out of necessity. The american athletic conferences born. But it's been hard to say that the league is an asset. I'll go back to basketball man in two thousand seventeen mick cronin. He had a really really good team. Two thousand seventeen. This is not the nevada year the year before phenomenal team very good team. Nobody ever talks about it outstanding club. They lost two games all year long in the league. They're really really good for a long stretch and a lot of the guys who made up even better team the following year. But that's a thousand seventeen. Ucla basketball team went sixteen and two in the league. They went thirty in six. That was also the first year that they revealed the. I sixteen seeds in the ncaa tournament about a month before selection sunday. The you remember that day. I do beck has had a great record. A great record. They didn't show up on the screen. They ended up getting a seven seed in the ncaa tournament. The conference was not an asset recruiting wise. Think of everything. That luke fickle has done in almost five years repairing the program building. It's brand winning. Some big games winning a conference championship putting it in the top ten this year. They've made the schedule better by the way the previous ad deserve some credit for that. But they've done all of this without the acting as much of an asset. I noticed the name brand of the big twelve. Which just has more cachet than that of the ac and maybe not the cachet of the old big twelve but luckily let's be honest. The big east has more cachet for xavier university than the it does. It's not the old big east. I think everybody understands. That doesn't mean it's not an asset. For xavier university. Same logic applies to the big twelve in uc. But then there's also the the financial part of this that can make luke pickles job. Easier can make west miller's job easier that can make the jobs of various coaches at school easy and i'll get told a home for saying this but the basketball things gotta be fixed a little bit here. But i've watched uc basketball. I've watched basketball become one of the best most consistent programs in the country for the most part without the conference being an asset. And i'm not talking about the last seasons. But i mean even as bad as things where it's not like they bottomed out on one like six games. Each of the last two years of watch this program succeed without the league being an asset of watch this program succeed despite having to hear about well recruiting disadvantages because traveling plane access and all this stuff. I've watched the the league getting away when it comes to. Ncaa tournament seeding. I've watched the some of the other sports do well. Baseball's done better volleyball which we've talked about women's basketball but mainly football luke. Fickle is never been armed with the conference affiliation of the school as an asset. And assuming he's here when you see does move into the big twelve. That is no longer the case now. The league is an asset now. The league can help branding and financially. And what's really fun is thinking about. What good coaches can do with now the conference being something that you can stick on your polo. Stick on your your pullover and feel good about saying we're the university of cincinnati. We've got this conference at our disposal. It's higher profile. it's more lucrative. it's a league that matters. You got a better chance of playing for championships. Come to uc jump on board. Sound kinda hokey. I i admit that it sort of does but that to me is the exciting part. You're giving a football coach. That has already succeeded without the conference being an asset. Now it's going to be one and new west miller. Look obviously jury is still out dude. Hasn't coached to gain. The early returns have been very very good. But i've seen a basketball coach. Do well here. Despite over the second half of his ten you're not having conference affiliation work as an asset and now for west miller it will if you care about university of cincinnati sports. That has to be extraordinarily exciting because it is for me. Seventeen after four. Jason williams on this topic coming up in just about twenty five minutes plus brennan jones on baseball richard skinner in just about one hour of david bell pre-game comments as well for the five o'clock hour. But first joe borough talked today. Loveland joe borough talks. You'll hear the cincinnati. Bengals quarterback talk about teammates. Like a t higgins and jessie bates talk about the minnesota vikings. He'll talk about a number of different things including having more freedom. Joe boroughs gonna talk jonesboro talks. You wants to listen. You wanna listen so Joel talk you'll listen next. I want to do like a twenty minute. Tangent here on getting tickets to sporting events in two thousand twenty one. I am pro technology. Just print damn tickets just time to get into this. Can we just go back. And we'll give you every technological can we just tweak returned to printed tickets so i don't have to open an app if somebody's going to give me their tickets and just jump through. It's seeking stinks..

"I'm a believer. This is one cool cat and he knows how to pitch. And i i was listening to jeff brantley yesterday and and even just saying this guy really has the art of teaching were supposed to be for his particular talent and he would be my number one starter in any playoff game right now. What complicates that. Mike as always thank you. I think what complicates that from. A reds perspective is. He's lefty india. Trust any other left he out of the bullpen. If you use wade miley to start. I mean look. There's a there's a better than average chance that at the reds make the postseason. They're not going to have it wrapped up until african one sixty two. There's a chance that the reds play in the postseason. They may have to play a game. One sixty three and if either of those are the case you're going to have less control over who starts than than who doesn't and look what we're seeing from. This year could be considered to a large degree a career year. I know is this when that dude's on the mound i feel calm. I'm not gonna see a lot of home runs. I'm going to see a guy who throw strikes. I'm going to see a guy who doesn't mess around. I'm going to see a guy who gives his team a chance to win. The ceiling might not be extraordinarily high although he has no hitter this year but the floor isn't very low. There is a degree of reliability that he brings to the table that is worth investing in. I know he is wade. Miley is thirty. Four years old. And he's gonna be thirty five years old well before next season One year bringing that guy back. I know look. I'm not talking about this in the same terms. we did. Trevor bauer last year. Why not hell not with his experience his know-how pitching in this park here. Why not couple minutes away. From four o'clock. You'll hear joe borough before. The bengals play the vikings this week. Joe talked earlier today. A lot from him coming up at four twenty and we have to get to our poll question which is bengals related. It's on my twitter. Feed at moa. Plus jason williams from the athletic on his reporting involving the university of cincinnati and his report that they've officially submitted their big twelve conference application. Jason joins us at four forty. When i think of uc in the big twelve the a word comes to mind. I'll tell you what the word is next. That's six five after four this is espn fifteen thirty allegra. Glad you're here. Richard skinner five twenty on the bengals as they get set to play the vikings. Joe borough in about fifteen minutes on t. higgins jessie bates and more looking forward to that and another thought or two on the reds as they get set to play the cubs this evening in chicago plus brennaman and jones. On baseball jason williams will be on this show. Jason beat his beats normally politics but going back to two thousand sixteen his side hustle for the inquirer has been writing about and talking about possible big twelve expansion and what it might mean for the university of cincinnati and we had jason on the show a bunch five years ago. We had him on a couple of weeks ago. He wrote an opinion piece about kind of where. Uc was positioned as it looked likely that the big twelve was going to do something but for the first time we have some concrete movement here specifically as it relates to you. See if you. At least by jason's reporting and i don't see why anybody would. He writes that. The university of cincinnati has officially submitted. Its application to join the big twelve conference. According to a to university sources with knowledge of negotiations since the first confirmation from uc officials of what national media outlets have widely reported. The big twelve on friday is expected to officially announce that you see and fellow. Afc rival central florida and houston and current independent. Byu will join the conference. Jason won't be on this show in just a bit. This is this is great news for you see and talked about this a little bit late last week. But there's a lot of folks. i'll be honest with you. If i've been asked questions a couple of this question a couple of different times if you're in charge and i wish i was but if you were in charge where would you put the bearcats. I put him in the. Acc that to me would be a dream. Come true from a basketball standpoint. It'd be cool as hell to have duke and carolina here even duke without coach k. You would reestablish your ties to luvell. You would have a geographic rival potential in pittsburgh you get a chance to play football against clemson. I mean just. There's be so much to like that to me would be dream come true you may differ in. That's okay but just because you don't get your dream home doesn't mean the house you've just moved into isn't good for you. Good for your family and a significant upgrade. Did you see what happened in the american athletic conference this weekend. Where temple was blown. Out by rutgers and uc davis beat tulsa. An easy you got boat raced at st to lane played very competitively against oklahoma in that game. Is i think a little sneaky. Tough for the bearcats this season especially because it's on the road but if you paid attention to this league this week also the confirmation you needed get out plus from a financial standpoint. The word that comes to mind is asset in. This is why this is why. I've enjoyed to a degree this process so much more than five years ago. Obviously this is resulting in uc making lead to a better conference and that wasn't the case five years ago but five years ago man. It was really hard to say that you see. Football was a bona fide asset. It was a potential asset. It was it was a job that was desirable. It was but it was a program that in the summer of two thousand sixteen was just like this chaotic mess of the season. They had been so bad. Tommy tucker ville was crying about the recruits. He couldn't get it was nationally very much. An afterthought bearcats going to have a top ten program every single year maybe not put that. Football program is an asset by the way. We all want. Luke fickle to be here forever. I don't worry at all about. Luke fickle leaving. Because i haven't the first four years he's been here and i've slept one night. Chances are luke. Fickle is gonna coach somewhere else. One day. I think we all understand how that works. Maybe it's the nfl. Maybe it's ohio state. Maybe it's notre dame maybe it's a job we're not talking about but he's in his fifth season at the university of cincinnati and but.

"Check that out leaving rating to if you could appreciate that and hello. I'm seeing a lot way. More hallows from some people joining us continuing to join us. Live good to see everybody christner and many many others get to see a lot of familiar names. A lot of new names Hello everybody thanks for joining. Thanks for listening and Be department let's roll on hough. Let's roll on just money. Says you need to get mike daniels back on. Yeah we'll try. His representation has been awesome to us by the way. So we will We will try and do what we can on that front continuing on the bengals. Vikings week one News year bengals announced their team captains. This was yesterday as well. Yes it was and they announced the seven players. Job bro tyler boy. Joe mixing a new one. Jessie bates von bell. Sam hubbard kevin huber. Now the to that kind of stand out to me in that. I will make the most comments on would be joe mixing and jessie bates mixing stands out to me. Because think back a handful. And i wanna go back in rehash you know ugly instances in the past from anybody but you know when you think back to joe mixing in the as a prospect coming out of the draft. There was kind of this other story that followed him. And i think we all know the deal. We don't need to go into the details there. you know there were just some off. Field concerns with joe mixing. He has been nothing but essentially a model citizen since entering the nfl and being with the cincinnati bengals has asserted himself as a team leader. So when i saw his name at the captain level unfortunately you know. I did think of an ugly situation years back but it also made me really proud as someone who covers the bangles a fan of the team a really proud of a guy like joe mixing who has really kind of turn things around from that ugly incident and really matured and is now a team captain of the team so kudos to him on being one of the seven captains of the team and then you look at jessie bates. That's an interesting situation because the bengals in he apparently are in a contract stalemates as contracts. Donate at this point in time they have a few days are not They haven't agree to a long term deal. Jessie bates now team captain. He's also been a big part of their marketing endeavors. That they've been really pushing out with new jersey's in everything and so he is a A captain there and you see the ones last year borough. Bell huber were captains along with Sean williams aj green. Geo bernard josh buying so Interesting stuff there but That's those are the seven captains right there. Borough boyd mixing bates bell hubbard and huber. So congratulations to those seven and got is at our In a lot of a lot of different ways. They are deserving of that designation. Unusually quarterback is the the team captain there so speaking of the team captains speaking of joe. Borough there is a a feature. That is going to be aired. I believe it's going to be on sportscenter on sunday so it it's an interview with him Talking with espn. But basically there's more talk of. Hey we have high goals as a team in terms of level of success that we want to attain and then of course the knee injury where he's at mentally where he's at physically with all of that and there were a couple of quotes that he sent out with Was with dan graziano in it was. Espn so this is probably going to be on. The full interview will be on Yes fiene and and i think their you know their website and all all kinds of different outlets but quote. None was the answer when graziano asked him if he had any concerns about his surgically repaired. left knee so quote. It shouldn't affect me at all. Meaning the knee brace. I don't really like wearing it because it's big and bulky but i don't think it'll affect my play. I think he also went on to say that. He doesn't think it's something. He will need for the entirety of his career. At least he doesn't hope so because of those reasons. So that's that's joe bureau on there and then of course you see here. The the goals for the season quote make the playoffs win the division. We really need to get better closing out games. Which is definitely something that has plagued the bengals for a while there quote we had leeds in the fourth quarter of something like seven or eight games last year and we ended up losing all of them. We just need to be better down the stretch. So they host the minnesota vikings and look while this seems like a winnable game for the bengals and they very well could win the game especially at being at home. The vikings are are pretty high quality team. That's probably going to be my. My assumption is that it's probably going to be something that is going to resemble a one score game or something that is relatively close so the bengals very well right away could have a contest in which they will need to be able to get over those hurdles of these one possession games week one last year. I mean. I don't wanna remind everybody would happen there last year but that was a one possession game You know the in subsequent weeks after that. The browns a week to the bengals played played. Catch up there but You know that was a one possession game yet. The tie with the eagles. I mean there are a lot of these situations where the bengals were in. These games had late leads all that kind of stuff and they couldn't close it out so that is a big focus which inevitably will lead to the first two points. Joe borough brought up in terms of being competitive winning the division making the playoffs all of that so that is a lie. Some interesting quotes there from joe borough. Now you've got some more quotes from his buddy on offense demar chase. I guess i should've talked about this after the depth chart. But that's okay we're going to get it anyway. Jomar chase speaks on his pre season drops. I i feel for this kid. Because there's nothing quite like trying to get over a mental hurdle and doing the work that you need to do in order to get.

"Counter programming. That's supposed to talk during reds. So we'll save some of that for the five o'clock hour. Hopefully bottom of the six. Three two three mike daniels has been moved back to the bengals. Practice squad. the bengals named captains today. Joe borough joe. Mix and tyler. Boyd sam hubbard. Jessie bates von bell. Kevin huber is your special teams captain. Fc cincinnati did you know alex. There's an mls soccer team in town. I do because. I generally run most of their games out of this studio. That sounds awful. It is now that they've left nipper stadium. I wouldn't mind seeing them do well. Boy they'd better figure it out because they not only are they they. They bad per se but they're not entertaining. There's nothing especially when we get to football right when you get to this climate and you've got options. Why why are you watching. Fc cincinnati right. Now if you have other options because you're a fan. I get it but like they're not playing a fun brand of soccer. they're not playing an exciting style. And if you're if you're you're boring and you're bad it's not a great mix start a great mix boring in bad you heard him mention it. Yesterday at the end of sunday morning sports talk. He feels bad for fc cincinnati fans. Because it's such a rabid loyal fan base and yet they aren't getting anything out of it. I don't know how rabid and loyal it is it. Sounds like a good crowd there every game when well. Yeah i mean you're a you're in a right around a thirty thousand seat stadium which is a lot of people. Don't get me wrong. It just it's not indicative of this like million person. Fan base is what i'm saying. I think they're very loyal to what the idea of. Fc cincinnati was when it was started but the product is bad product. Just bad and it's hard to continue to keep asking people for money when you're not giving them a good product to pay for. Let's take a break when we come back. Everybody wants to talk about jober. Oh i don't think he's the key to the season cincinnati. Espn fifteen thirty log. Amac cincinnati's espn fifteen thirty chad.
