Sarah Jessica Parker responds to questions about Kim Cattrall in new 'Sex and the City' series
"Sarah jessica parker is responding to comments that the sex of city cast. Does it like kim cottrell. You know the story is all this time so the questions over cottrell came up because three of the original cast members all posted teasers on their social media for at just like that. Which is the new chapter in the sex and the city saga which also. I did not know what was happening. I was very surprised. But anyways samantha controls character was noticeably. Absent from the teasers. Cottrell said she wouldn't appear at sequels and there's been beef between her and former cast members in response to rumors that the cast didn't like each other. Sarah jessica. Parker responded to a comment on her instagram announcement saying quote. No i don't dislike. I've never said that. Never would samantha. Is it part of the story. But she will always be a part of us no matter where or what we do

"Sex in the city will return seventeen years. After its last episode aired for what tencent ten episodes. I'm so excited about this. Your this is breaking news to me. It will star three of the four original leads. Sarah jessica parker cynthia. Nixon and kristin davis carrie miranda charlotte. We'll all be back. I'm not shocked that the other don't like control they i. I was shocked. When i got into this. Deep dive about kim cottrell and sarah jessica parker and their feud and i thought their on screen relationship had so much chemistry. I thought there's no way off air. Apparently it was tense onset. Like they'd film the scene and then partways access is good. That's good acting right there. Because i wouldn't feel fake. It sex in the city will return seventeen years after its last episode aired. Hbo max that's where it
Sex and the City Is Coming Back
"Sex and the city is coming back. You guys parker cynthia. Nixon and kristin davis confirmed it with this teaser. They're bringing the show back to life on. Hbo maxima. here's a twist for one thing. The show has a new name. It's called and just like that. The other big changes. That kim cottrell will not be back. As samantha. super surprise about that part of it. But you guys here for this look. I think everybody has been waiting for this to happen for a very long time. Where that you like. The series are not whether you like the movies are not you know a character. You still know which character that you are. This show holds a place. And everybody's heart. I don't care who you are man ads. but also what if your character doesn't come back. Like i'm a combination of carrying samantha. So half of me is no longer in this series. And i think you know what i mean like me. That really upsets me. I i found out about this late yesterday was like what's going on. I didn't fully understand what was going on. I'm here for it. But the fact that they're trying to use a different title and try to differentiate from sex in the city as much as possible. I just feel like is the juice worth the squeeze like you have such an iconic franchise you did the show for however many seasons. You have two movies the second movie we let pass because whatever we're super fans and we didn't care as much as we should now to revamp it in like a smaller scale with only three of the women when it's really about the four of them and then also to know that whatever feud has gone on behind the scenes is so bad that somebody will not return sort of just jolts. I don't know the the magic of it all a little bit. Like do people want no samantha. In this show one time samantha. But i i. I love the other girls enough that i told him away without her own. No the problem is the show is called. Sex city remarried broadband. We know nobody's having sex in that city. Okay so give me somebody. I need you to cast somebody. Who's going to be that young sexy siren that's going to actually explore the city as a single woman and have these women go ahead and kind of guide her through now over the years i will say sex in the city has gotten a little bit of pushback because of their lack of diversity this is. Hbo's chance and sexy cities chance to show that they can cast somebody in that role at all. I want is a quarterly simmons or isa raid in that role. We had you know. I love the. I also think it's one of those things. Where if you're not gonna bring samantha back and i know i read a little bit about the show this morning. And it says it's about the women navigating friendships in their fifties. Then i think that you need to also include losing friends. People throughout their life people who have been friends for twenty years. If you're no longer going to have samantha around. I don't wanna hear that samantha's in la or central pay or dating. Some man tell us that samantha went awol. And y'all are not cool anymore. Like i love that. And pretend she's gone and it's all fine also. Don't you think that some are Critic his character is going to be like the one divorce because she's so least likely to be divorced. They've gotta have a good twist. They're already been divorced. she's dead. She converted also watch your language. Watch your language because you keep on saying if you're not gonna have some antibac- if you're not going to invite her in samantha. Was the one kristen her name. I'm i can into the one who said she would never do. Another sex in the city again never wanted to play that character again. It was not her. She wanted to move on. So we can't because a lot of people are pointing fingers at sarah jessica parker a nephew of why shouldn't come back but she said she wasn't going to come. Was it on like kim yet. Her but there was. She couldn't get the last. I think we're done with samantha. They hate each other and the fact that they hate each other to the extent that they hate each other and we still don't really know why is fascinating to me couple. Let's get a couple like major things about the story. What do you think so you think you guys both in kristen's karat. Why can blink charlotte. You think charlottesville. What about big and kerry together or broken up together can carry gonna be together. I don't think it's going to be. I think the new adventures are gonna come with the new woman. I think we're going to get the fashion. I think we're going to get the city. And i also think we're going to get a diverse for the character that we have always need it in this series or something like twenty twenty one like i think it's i think it's just give me comoro. You like let me get my life. Yeah i'm excited about this. I am excited to see what it's gonna be and how they're gonna do it. I'm sure it's going to be good no matter what the way. Let's be honest if kim control really wanted to come back on this show. They would have done it. She worked the last two seasons not liking. Sarah jessica parker joy behar and go back and rosie o'donnell crossing each other at a table for three years. These two can be on together at young to be kuenz. Has no interest was over sad. Can
'Sex and the City' is coming back -- but it's missing one key character
"John. Were you a sex and the city fan are not necessarily but I think I'm going to go back. I watched episodes here and there, but I wasn't like it considered. I I'm not like so ingrained in the culture of sex and the city that I breathe it right, But I am excited that it is coming back. Great news for fans of the show. It's coming to HBO, Max. Sarah Jessica Parker. She put out a tweet that was it was like B roll of New York City, obviously produced by the show, and then it was, you know, her typewriter typing and it said, And just like that, which is famous from her. You know, from her column, she wrote. And so that's gonna be the name of the show. And just like that, so, okay, So this isn't like all the episodes are coming back. This is no. This is a new new content with Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte. Oh, what? I'm in their fifties. Oh, yes. So, um, you know, won't Well, that's that's fun. I really like this idea. 10 episodes half hour long. It's scheduled to begin production in New York late spring. So I think we're going to see it in the fall. I am so excited. Me too. I think I'm going to go back and binge. The six separate six seasons because you know why not? What else? The old episodes an hour long. I think so. Eh? So I like that. These are a little bit shorter. Yes, I couldn't help but wonder where are they now? Yeah, that's what everybody wants to. That's exciting. Well, and Cynthia Nixon. Didn't she run for office in New York? I believe sounds right? Yeah. Um And so Cynthia Nixon's going to be back. Kristin Davis, Sarah Jessica Parker, but no to Kim can could trail right. She won't ever be back. Nobody likes her. Hey, Donna, you know we talked about this morning like, you know Sharon Stone. Somebody asked her if she would be interested in she said Yes. Just like in the interview. I was ever that it sure, And I think she'd be perfect. He's a little older, though she is, but I don't think you can tell that's true. And And then there's the possibility. You know Samantha had breast cancer. In the show at one point character, and, uh, I think that you know if you wanted to I think, do a service to you know women with breast cancer. It would make the story bigger than just you know, and have her pass away from breast cancer. It would make it bigger than Him control as a person because I think that her personality is sort of taken over and all the negativity with it. You could actually do show a real life. You know, women. We deal with losing friends and sisters and mothers to breast cancer, right? And so that would be a real life thing that I think they could, You know, wrap up the story line, but also do something good. Bye. Yeah. The majority of this show I was. I was deaf, too, until The final two seasons. Maybe The girls who lived upstairs from us in college in the apartment above us knew that we had HBO so on Sunday nights they would invade and it was like, okay, we're watching. And so we're like, Well, if we're gonna watch it, just fill us in what's happening here? Well, it's great. I I think I watched it like I watched two seasons and then I forgot to watch another season and I was just kind of pop in and out. Yes, you could kind of do that. I didn't watch that last season, though, and I don't know what happened with neither neither. So maybe I'll just go back and you know to get ready for this season. Wow. Kristin Davis will be nice to see her. Yes, Queen? Yes, it was Mr Big gonna be in this. I don't know. That is a good question. What? He ended up being on the good wife. Oh, yeah. I'm the good one. Yeah, one of my favorite shows ever I didn't finish the last season. The only season I didn't see E No. I'm usually a good finisher. I don't know. Stop it, Dodd! Sorry. Clean it out. Take a walk. Almost. You got 15 years.

"jessica parker" Discussed on Origins with James Andrew Miller
"I sat down with Sarah. Jessica in Chicago before it live audience for an in-depth discussion on how she has turned her business ideas into gold. Best known as the EMMY award winning star of sex in the city, and countless other appearances in television, film, and on Broadway. Sarah, Jessica Parker is recently added successful entrepreneur to her list of credits. And because this is Arjun we began by tracing the pedigree of Sarah Jessica's interest and involvement in starting her own business. Please join me in welcoming, Jim Miller and Sarah. Jessica parker. Two. Thanks for having us and thanks for inviting, Sarah. Jessica Parker, I think I've probably interviewed two thousand people over the past decade, and she's one of my fav-. So for those of you who are expecting Mike Wallis tonight. You ain't gonna get it. We'll see how you feel about an hour might change your mind. I've been to my eyes for the past month with sex in the city because of this podcast and. One of the things. One of the things that you mentioned when I interviewed you for it was that when you're first approached by Darren star, I think it was eat restaurant side. He had made it clear that he had written to pilot with you in mind, but he also said something to you, which you said was somewhat provocative, which was that. He wanted to talk to you about producing the show as well. And you hadn't done that before. And I just want to see if there's some kind of connective tissue between you becoming a producer on sex and the city, and you starting to really think about being capital business. Yes for me. There is it is the connective tissue. It is. I see a very direct line. And I tried to to mention that as often as possible not just to try to find a new way to thank Darren for the opportunity of, you know, the show in general the part specifically, but also. So because because in essence, he handed me another career, he did he said in that initial meeting he said, and you should you should produce the show with me. And I said, I have not produced television. I've not produced anything at that point in my life. I've always been a journeyman I was an actor for higher. I was extremely happy with that. I thought that that was pretty much as good as as it gets to be a working actor was really what I wanted. And and he said and what he said to him. I don't know anything about it. He said, no, no, no. You learn you learn, you know, you you pay attention you're in a room, and you're with people who've done it and do it. And he said I the first season. We'll just call you a consultant, and I said, okay. And I basically just did exactly that I went to every meeting. I could I listened, you know, I said nothing I knew what I knew I knew what I didn't know. I tried to ask questions, I never contributed a thought of feeling an opinion. And I also started to see the ways that people conducted themselves, and I would admire some and I would. Use others as cautionary tales. I wouldn't want to behave in the same way. Or and so that whole first season was enormously. Well, it was normally beneficial. But it was a it was a masterclass in producing because I was watching Darren star. And ultimately, Michael, Patrick and. Yeah. And the thing that I discovered that I loved was was numbers was business was not just the creative conversation that you are privileged enough to be part of. But eventually it included numbers. Like, it really did include thinking about, you know, pay and contracts, and unions, and churches, schedules, schedules, and budgets and being smart about money being strategic about money being clever about money and as somebody who. Hated mass because I was bad at it. And thought that I didn't have a head for it. And you know, have a terrible PSAT's scores. It was like. Nauseous before I took them, especially the math section. This was like a whole world opening up to me. So yes that is the beginning. In fact, is entirely due to DARREN'S generosity long answer to a short question. You'll be getting a lot of that tonight. I also talked to people on the crew and other cast members. And I think toward the end of the series in particular, you.

"Was par fit so beautifully into those ideas and just glimpses of things. This show is not a period piece, but it is. We helped hell it with music from the seventies, and even the composer, I really wanted him to find ways of using the flute because I felt like it had been ignored for too long. And I, I love the sound and it's so Avakian give anybody of a certain age group or who's interested in music would have a reaction not just to the obviously to the source music, but to the compose music as well. So the mustache was this gift because it was so beautifully fit into these ideas. Just Parker. I'm I'm at a time with you, but I'm so grateful that you came into talk to us. I, I really appreciate you taking the time. Oh, it's been such a treat and just did not. Let me down at all. And you ask such good smart, interesting questions, and it's been a real privilege to have time with you. So thank you so much. Sarah, Jessica Parker. You can currently watch the first two seasons of divorce on HBO. Now HBO go. She's also starring in and producing a new movie called here. And now that set to hit theaters, November nine. It's bullseye. Jesse thorn. My next guest is Chris gathered, Chris was of course the host of the legendary Chris Gifford show it aired first on New York City public access television than later on the network fusion. You might have also seen him on broad city or in don't think twice Mike Moore, bigly improv movie. Chris also stand up. And when we talked, he didn't really interesting special. It's called career suicide. It's kind of a one man show gathered produced it with Judd appetite. Genuinely moving special gathered talks very specifically about alcoholism about depression even death, but he doesn't ways that are totally human, very identifiable. Very funny. Chris has a new book coming out. It's called lose well, and it's sort of a self-help book. He talks about the lessons that he's learned in life shortcomings and successes in show business stories of family and friends. And there's even a section on his high school band. The lesson. If you really want to be good at anything, you're gonna fail. And if you wanna know the right way to fail, Chris gathered has some advice anyway, let's take a listen to a little bit from the one man show here. He's talking about his early days in show business running from addition to addition to get bit parts in commercials, I get active. I start getting acting work. I'm getting mostly commercials, mostly commercials. If you search my name on YouTube to this day, you go deep enough in the search results. You can still find a very annoying commercial for our block where I, where later hosing find that. And I once auditioned for a subway sandwich commercial to play the role of men who is unattractive to women. That was the characters in the script. They couldn't even call them dog or something like that. I didn't book that part. I'm assuming because..

"It's both Jesse thawing. My guest is Sarah, Jessica Parker. We talked in two thousand sixteen. She is of course the star of sex and the city. She's also been in films including l. a. story footloose and the first wives club. She's currently starring in the HBO show divorce. Your husband is the actor, Matthew Broderick. Did you have a relationship with his work before you knew him as a human being? Like I mean, like I'm not. I'm not telling you anything, you don't know, but like he was ferris bueller. For example. Not only did I have a relationship but with his work. But before. I met him. I when I met him, I realized, Wow, I've paid for all your movies, meaning as an audience. I couldn't say that about a lot. I could say about Woody Allen's movies from the time I was young child be always went to see Woody Allen movies. And when I was in Utah shooting footloose that summer, I think Matthew had maybe two movies out and I didn't have a car. But on my days off, I would go to the movies, one or two of which were Matthew Broderick movies. So, yeah, I was very familiar with him. As as a performer as an actor I look, I'm I think that any relationship is including a relationship between two very famous people as the two of you are is about like just regular people. You know, like I've done this job long enough to know that like everybody is, is a person. If you find a point on it, but like, yeah, people are, you know, human beings. But at the same time, I do like the idea that there was some part of you like the first time you and your husband made out or whatever where you were like guess making out with Matthew broddrick. Ecorse. Yeah, I'm never shared that things you are so probing. Yeah. I mean, I I, I thought he was. I mean, there was a reason I kept paying to see him. Yeah. So when we started dating, we met through friends in the theater. He was brothers, Matthew, and. Matthew's best friend founded the company called naked angels, and I hanging around there and that's how we met and. For sure. Part of that was I'd seen that in on a big screen and liked what I saw. How do you feel about Thomas Haden church is distinctive moustache the show divorce. I like it very much. I'm I'm, I'm so glad that he did that because it really has become a six character on the show. And it's been a wonderful conversation. I, since I had a whole conversation, we had Sharon Horgan on the show and we were in London a couple of months ago. She and I had an extensive conversation about it. Backstage. I am ready to make out with him with my fashion. I think he is. I think he looks so hands with that mustache me too. I think it's so great. And so it is also a little bit. It is both incredibly like dashing and handsome and a little ridiculous. We in a very perfect way that really helps define that character who has those qualities at totally. Absolutely. I will say one other thing which fits into this idea when we were in prep for the show. And in fact, earlier than that, I started thinking about what I hoped the show would look like cinematic Lii and and what I wanted the music to look like. And the costumes and seventies cinema played was the central in inspiration from me. I mean, that's what I kept circling around and I encouraged everybody else to circle around and you know all the great movies from the seventies and how they were shot and music from the seventies. I wanted that to not only play really important. Role, but I imagined that that music was the music as separate young people. They fell in love to, you know, I kiss, you know, skipping school, all these things that were narrated by seventies music, and you know, Albert Wolski all the great costume designers and, and so this mustache..

"I was listening to you talk to Alec Baldwin on his show. Here's the thing and you were talking about your early career and I was thinking of a great actress who's who's been on this show and is so wonderful and brilliant named Judy Greer and and also about other women as actresses women actress who are funny and the world of quirky, best friends. Which seems to be often the world that anyone who is a woman who is funny. It's changed somewhat, but anyone who's a woman who's funny is consigned to or given the opportunity to play in. I mean, there's good things about it too, but, but like the your early career was standing next to. Yeah, it's like, yeah, like movie star looking. You're you're real pretty, sir. I, I'm not. Put you in a terrible position. I think you, I think, you know, the kind of thing I'm talking about and I think for some people that feels like that feels like a prison. You know, there's some people who just, I mean, I know like for example, Sarah Silverman. She's just like, yeah, I'm just not going to do that ever. And for that reason, she's, you know, she's worked a lot more as a comic than she has his an actress because that's what show business wants to do. And I, it sounded like partly, you kind of liked. You kind of like the part where you were, you know you were just working and doing different stuff. I, yes. I mean, obviously there are there are a lot of jobs I just simply took because I really needed to, you know, pay my con Ed Bill or, but the jobs, the things that I remember most and that we're most meaningful often were the three best friend of the pretty girl. And I say that because don't sell yourself short. Sarah also the quirky, best friend of the pretty girl. That's true. That's true. But I, but those were well, maybe it's just the way I'm choosing to remember them. But those were always for me, the more interesting role anyway, they weren't on screen as long and they never got to kiss anybody, but they always had insight and they were source of comfort and they were. Council and ears and eyes and witnessed to. And you always knew that if they could just survive until college, the world was going to be there always Stor, and maybe that's because that's how I felt. But I, I liked them and I, you know, I used to people used to say, well, you know, maybe you should pluck your eyebrows or get a nose job or all sorts of ideas about the an easier avenue toward something else that I guess seemed you know, like success for me, everybody is mired and I, those that I looked to. Ever seem bothered by other people's opinions of them in some way. They just wanted to work more of my conversation with Sarah, Jessica Parker after a break, she'll tell me about the first time she kissed her now husband Matthew Broderick. She says it was just as cool as you'd think it would.

"I don't love you anymore. I want a divorce. Sarah, Jessica Parker welcomed the bullseye. Thank you. Thank you so much for having me. I want to ask you something serious to begin with, which is I this experience a couple years ago where a pair of good friends of myself and my wife split up, they were married and my my own parents were divorced when I was very young and I, you know, I always saw as for the better. I mean, they didn't get along. But when these friends of mine were splitting up, I sort of freaked out. I was really legitimately freaking out about it. These people have three thousand miles from me. Like I care about the very much, but they I see them once a year. Right? And it occurred to me like how intense I just I guess I just never acts. I just walled off that part of my my life experience and the wall just crumbled, all in one go. And I wonder what it's like for you to live with and the way that you live with this subject when you're making a TV show live with divorce. You know every day when you go to the office. The experiences, not not a personal exploration for me, you know, in terms of trying to sort out my own home life. But rather, I guess, in some ways what you've described as witnessing your friends marriage fell apart for me, it's a fascinating way to spend a lot of hours because I, I guess, you know, the reason that I was interested initially in developing this show was because I, I, I like yourself. I was watching friends, marriage fall apart. I was witnessing friends, contemplate affairs, friends have affairs, marriage survive affairs marriage, be better for having having one party have an affair. You know, people contemplating divorce, not divorce in all those things that surround surround you. When you reach a certain point in your life and people have. Been in committed relationships, meaningful, substantive relationships. And I like very much exploring it. It's the exact way I wanted to do it. It's the tone that I was hoping for because it's for some, it's devastating for others. It's an opportunity to sort of make alliances. And I think it's really complex and I think people's reactions to divorce when it's not their own, a really often surprising to themselves does it, does it freak you out? I mean, the the like wave when you spend time with it in your heart, do you do you feel freaked out? And I don't mean like in the sense, like does it make you feel like you and your husband are going to get divorced? But like it's it's like an existential dread for me. I think I think it doesn't freak me out sometimes it makes me very sad and. I, I, I don't know. I'm not. I'm not freaked out by it because it's. Both an artistic and academic exercise in some ways. And for me, guess I've been an actor for so long that I, I found a way to compartmentalize the work. I also come home to three children and a active household chaos, and I don't. I'm not at liberty to let it penetrate. Really beyond the threshold in some way of my own home. But I love the story. I like pushing on the bruise. I, I've always been that way and I've I'm much more interested in the potential to be freaked out the not. I wanna play a pushing on the bruise seen from divorce..

"Boy, I think they're a little more than boy witches. You told Louis everything. This house used to be owned by another Warlock. He's very very powerful. He left a clock in the walls. We don't know what it does accept something. Horrible. Well, I see some names in this movie. First of all it's gonna suffer from title. That's too long. Jack black as as the as the ankle who's taking care of his nephews parents died in a car crash takes place in the fifties. And Cate Blanchett's in it as well as sort of their next door neighbor comic Lachlan's in there. At a point. It's essentially a a Halloween issue kind of movies. But for kids, I mean, it's not, you know, it's not intense. It's not overly scary sorta like hocus pocus if you remember that movie from twenty five years ago, I with Bette midler, and and started Jessica Parker. This is it's a neat. Little of story. This misfit kid trying to find his place and becoming a bit of a Warlock himself. The most interesting part I found about it as directed by LA. Roth who is best known for doing like hostile in the green inferno. These really extreme violent almost a disturbing horror movies, but he's adapting a book to this. So he's working with someone else's source material, which means he didn't write it, which means it has a better story and characters and because he loves horror and Halloween so much. He adds all those elements to kinda works as a kids movie. Not perfect. It has some predictability, and and and such but I took my. Ten year old son and he loved it. It was actually a lot of fun. Oh, so I think this is going to have some influence on which movie you pick. All right. So we got three movies out this week. You got Michael Moore's Fahrenheit eleven nine life itself, which somehow you survived and the house with the clock in its walls. If you had only enough money for one movie this week, Kevin car what you're gonna pick. Well, we're less than two months from now I'm going to have to pick the house with the clock, and it's very good. Kevin car. Always pleasure to talk with you. You can learn more about Kevin and see the picks at fat.
