"Here's your host Jesse Cohen. Welcome kings fans. I am Jesse Cohen. This is all the king's men's last week we asked Jim Fox and Nick Nixon to decide what the best first round series in kings history was this week. We're taking another look back into kings history. John Rosen Rich Hammond. Join me to see what would happen. If we could rewind the clock and redraft the first fourteen picks the two thousand and three NHL entry draft considered one of the deepest NHL history. The kings had three picks in the first round including the thirteenth overall which they used to select Dustin Brown. After we hear from our insiders we go back to nick. Nixon and the two thousand and ten first round playoff series against the Vancouver canucks. I am joined.

"I am Jesse Cohen. This is all the king's men for those of you. Observing Passover or Easter. I opened went as well as could be reasonably expected. We've got a quick episode for you today because of the holiday weekend but we are hopefully going to make it up to you later. In the week Kohl signed his entry level contract over the weekend and there were some other things I intend to get deeper into but I think I criticize McDermott. Signed a two year contract. Extension and bark. Madness is wrapping up. So let's deal with that. I will the final for of Bark. Madness is concluded here to walk us through it. Pumpernickel pumper I have nothing to combat. You're horrible final for comment. So I'm doing well and of course the woman with near perfect racket. Dutt's how you doing. That's I'm good pumper. We just gotTa move past his Bad Jokes so let's Let's start with the The Western final meatball left versus axle. Mcdermott now meatball. Love is the defending champion. And if he passes Axel McDermott and wins in the finals. He will become the first ever repeat. Champion of Bark Madness bumper. I know axl had an early round lead. But what who is the winner of this match up? It's me ball left world and we're all just living in it. That was a right but you know what I was going for their me ball. The last three days I thought Matt Luff's twitter campaign was a strong one telling people that if if a meatball did win that he'd be moving out here to La full-time. But honestly I think I think it was the PUPS instagram account. Put it over the top Kazaa nipple took off and you know once once dog starts going downhill there's no agent. That's entirely possible. But I know that the Hamilton bulldogs Matt Left Junior. One of love's junior teams also tweeted out and encourage people to vote for meatball. So I feel like Village might not have just been the left puffs social media presence but matt left's fans from Multiple Cities Bagging Robin. I think you had axel though right I did. Yeah with the Matching Pajamas. To Curtis Mc Dermott. Yeah well I took on Lucy for the final so I feel pretty good about that. Still but Yeah I did have access to an Jesse coming coming into this match. Aksoy at the most votes out of any dog Through the first two rounds so you know he he had the whole competition his hands and I gotta Say I think Curtis Mc Dermott choosing not to have a public twitter in a public. Instagram may have heard on here at the end. You're probably not wrong. There's no question although Look people responded really strongly. The matching pajamas axles. A great name is a beautiful dog but ultimately the meatball left propaganda machine is a is a tough opponent. Let's go to the eastern Vinyl Eight Clegg versus Lucy Anderson. I think we all know how this went. But wanting to and tells who won that match up it's a it's it's Lucy Anderson. An absolute You know show landslide showdown here. I actually pad ace Clayton Mismatch but I think The the andersons again a social media they'd gone with water balloon fights. They've Gone With the garage hockey tournaments in. They know how to play the here. I mean look I stand by a statement of wanting to join the Anderson family. Like water fights. Are you kidding as Clegg at the second ace in the tournament to be eliminated but I believe appears to be a chocolate lab? Everybody loves labs and chocolate. Labs are gorgeous but Lucy Anderson. I mean just prototypical golden retriever right and appearing in those videos with that. Excuse me with Mikey chasing. They are Chaki Ball. She made an appearance on the intermission. Report with Mike and Joey during one of the Stream Games rob and he said you feel good about this matchup You think Lucy can take down Meet bombs called MEATLOAF meatball. I.

In case you don't understand what the hell you're talking about searching around my place for bubble bath and I didn't have any but I found this It was like from Was that plays bodyworks. "The state lock has gone out of his a little bit. Here's Bradley Dagger. This is an all the king's men post game podcast so be set to the line and out of the hill put saw picks it up. Slides Clause Brown Boorda has now. Here's your host Jesse Cohen. We are I above the ice in the Bob Miller press box at Staples Center joining tonight. Jacob Lonski Harry doing it. I'm sorry Minnesota Native Jackson Bonski Harry doing tonight. Jack Thank you very in putting that I'm a I'm okay. You know. There's some good some beds not just for the wild turn the kings as well but they were hell low. Who are we watching and Dave Joseph the human right David the human t shirt cannon? Joseph how're you doing day the wings a little bit tender but Still feeling good. We're ready to go. What a what a game. Yeah Yeah Right. Yes I'd Sam said if this is the first time the team has ever scored seven. I said yes I mean. It's not in all no not in franchise history season. I think the first time we've made me look it. We're just GONNA go ahead and works for me all right here also. Yeah Yeah. I mean. They've had five right because we have the conversation about right like three out of the last five. I don't have to look at seven. Yeah this is. The first and dea rule yes after we gave already scored that sorry. Gabriel Velocity scored. That goal is it. Officially Gabriel Yeah. Four seated is hit us with the Monday night football lou I liked bombardment and I happened to bump into him in one of the rooms up here on the press box level where you might wash your hands and I just said that because it was seventy said not just because it was having because seven two three seven three two. Football football is on top. He is and where the xfl it would have been straight eight eight to four on audio from one to twelve. So Alex Taylor. How does it feel to let in six goals Jack at one tonight? That would've been the interview after I coulda sworn ounce steak was a bomb. Okay okay okay. Let's start you're going to try to put me down here? I'm just saying disorder sorta Native Jackie lockdown. Well he he did not have a good game but the thing is we were talking before the game and I just briefly Minneapolis Minnesota Wild here. Because it's an ugly. Maybe I should have called him. Alex stay unlock. Oh that's a good one. You talk for living. Can't tell by this. You were saying you know. What's the chances that the Minnesota wild make the playoffs? And my response was if Devon do nick and play like Devin Nubrik and the reason that he's not a net is because he hasn't been which is unfortunate because stakes played great but Here's another reason on why you know. Maybe he hasn't been starting goalie for a lot of teams in his career so now unfortunately go for him but we talk about the Kings. Yeah let's five wins in a row. Whoa WHOA WHOA. Whoa GUITAR RIFF. Into this game. They were seven to one in their last. I mean eight to nine hundred eleven. I mean I mean who is this Ontario rain team or watch. Well let's focus on the part of the team. That isn't the Ontario ratings are plus Von. Braun heading into were some of the guys leading this team over the over the past ten game and as I said on this podcast many many times. This team goes as the Andrzej. That's right yes right and obviously dustin brown a hat trick as I in two thousand eighteen. She's on Jaco. Petar had a goal goal which was a replication of the of the Martinez. Double-overtime Yup Chassis and Matt Roy. Plus for love it. He was a plus eleven in the last ten going into this game now. There's no way I think that the coach with earlier in the season where he used to work. I think it worked. We haven't heard anything bad about Matt. Roy Have War alternate theory. Okay that defense playing ghost who I thought had concluded its unfinished. Business is now back to you know to possess the body of Matt Roy about it. Look Matt Roy is an NHL Defense. He's a pretty good player. Yeah Yeah I like what we see from doubt and his partner whose name. I'm blanking on Mike Anderson Forty Four. Yeah also I mean. Jack pointed out they showed his stats up on the screen. And I just sort of blankly said like not bad EGAS not paddock. Or that's one way to describe it. They were quite good. What were the stats? Seventeen minutes hints plus one or something. Oh yeah which is impressive. For a guy who's played is what now two or three games seven minutes forty three seconds plus two Shots on goal and four hits hits. Yeah that's great. Yeah we'll take that out of what is now third period offensive and he just got stitches in his mouth. Got Right thank God for the permanent. Retainer Matt Roy Played Nineteen fifty-nine drew. Doughty played twenty four twenty which is great when you don't have to have dowdy playing thirty minutes asks. Let's I mean this is where he's been a lot lately which is a testament to the to the bottom for dense bit because they've taken a lot off drew and I think it's helped improve his game as well. Ben Hutton. Seventeen minutes twenty eight. Got Away with a couple of crosschecks to the back of a Minnesota wild head. Can I say this yeah? No I like that pairing actually which fifteen eight I like Ben. Hutton plan with drew doughty. Okay Reserve said. Who's GonNa play now that Derek Forwards Calgary who's GonNa play with doughty everyone said I don't know right and I actually I like it? I don't mind it one bit. I think they fit well together. Do you agree no not at all no eighteen and my straight wins. Seventeen criticized McDermott. Fourteen hundred six Jesse pretty much take balance across the board the way it was earlier in the season with but yeah I mean and doing with Jeff Carter Right which is.

"Jesse Cohen. Walking makings fans. I am Jessica. This is all the king's men we've spoken Rob Rudnik from northeastern university about Tyler Madden. We'VE SPOKEN TO THOMAS. Grants from the athletic about Tim. Schallert we've heard from Rob Blake. We know the hall. The kings got back from treating tyler to fully but in this episode. I WanNa talk about Tyler. Toffoli and what he and Tanner Pearson and Jake Mohsen. Kyle Clifford Jack Campbell. And all the rest of them meant to La Kings joining me now from Fox sports west Carlin Bait. How're you doing it in Harlem o? I'm wonderful Jesse around ten fifteen pm and I'm in a hotel in Winnipeg so doesn't get much better than hells no all right. Well kept for them. The reason I wanted to talk to you. It's bittersweet day. He's really just sort of bitter as the kings trade topic. Toffoli reason I wanted to talk to you is obviously. He scored a hat trick in stadium series game against the Colorado Avalanche. You were there I didn't think it was appropriate for the NBC guys to talk as much as they did about the potential of him being traded. But I'm assuming it had to be a topic of conversation or at least started hanging in the air. Did you get the sense that it was? You know that the the the guys tyler in particular knew that this was going to be some sort of last hurrah. I am not sure if they knew when but I think it's it seemed like it's it's always just seems like on this journey to the deadline that everybody kind of soaking everybody. Cotentin last Hurrah without putting a label on it and I was a little shocked that you know in in a game that has so much theater to it where they're outdoors and the whole dry. The fact that it's this you know epic stadium series battle. I was a little bit shocked that questions. We're asking on the post game. Presser but about potential trading and reporters got a report totally respect that. But like that's not where my mindset was wrapped up in in the theater and the production and the the entirety of Of what that game was rather than what the future could be for this player. So I my head wasn't there. I can't say with the where the players had four but it's just been this kind of eerie looming sense of what's going to happen next and I think everybody's been a little bit more friendly. We're making sure where our last interactions with whomever we're talking to is a good one just in case moments like tonight Hafid were. You never know when you're gonNA see them again. I gotta Say I am a little stunned. At how hard some fans are taking this. I mean it's never fun to lose a guy who was drafted by organization at won the Stanley Cup with your team. You know who with roots in the community? The way he does but people are. I mean there's there is wailing gnashing of teeth. Renting of clothing people are upset about this trade. I mean I would be too. I were in there shoes. He's he's one of the bigger names in the bigger faces of that organization and I mean the Kings such a good job at leading you take a peek into their lives and people know his wife's name people know his dog names. People see him when they're around the South Bay like it's so hard to not take it personal and you know I think fans are expecting some big moves but I mean people just kind of create this persona. That goes along with. Who Tyler to fully is and I think they're losing a part of that. They're losing the cupcake means like you know what I mean. That's seventy lines. Officially totally demolished in being reunited are reunited in Vancouver. But I I totally advertise with with the fan base and can completely understand why. There's just a giant uproar I mean are you are if you take yourself in. Put it in the human element of all of this. Jessie are you. Are you a little upset as well as kind of something that you kind of look at in a business way or do you totally upset I for me? There is a a huge scar on my sports fans. Soul from when they traded wrote a tie and so every subsequent scar you know has to contend with that original one so right so there's nothing that can devastate me anymore because that was that was the one but but yeah yeah but but for me the issue is I see a guy in Tyler Toffoli and in Tanta Pearson in another players who have been traded and who ultimately probably be traded. Who seemed like a really good guys and who I enjoyed watching you even when the team wasn't great even if I had complaints about his production or what have you. I still enjoy watching Tyler Foley. Score right in. There's tons of pictures of him from the Stadium Series Game. You know in the silver bucket. His hands stretched out after scoring one of his three goals. Any just looks right. You know. He's a king and rand. That's for me. That's the part that stings. Is that you know. I've spoken to my father about these players. Who have these moments that cement them as quote Unquote Real Kings Entire Foley absolutely one Kyle Clifford as well So yeah I completely understand again. I'm just surprised I guess. And it's part of just being old man I guess there's there's a new generation for this into a row so I was just going to say I think I think any member of either of the cup championships will forever sting.

"N. now here's your host Jesse Cohen Welcome back fans I am Jesse Cohen this is all the king's men well the Golden two or three years ago pulpits are that MVP season this year. They're they're fine right they've been pretty good they're pretty good yeah yeah they turned the Puck over everyone you already know what you have in Kyle Clifford Trevor Lueth Act and Michael Radio right so you want to see the youth more on display honestly it's for me and I think for McClellan too I think at this point it's more about seeing the vets I mean the comment he made eight after Vancouver game about some guys you know what did you say the guys that we need to be here for us so the guys that we've relied on if they're not going to be here maybe they don't belong in league like Wolf that's pretty well he just called out guys without saying their name Yeah essentially well but let me let I'm not gonNA say their names either because if he not gonna I'm not GonNa but I think we all know who those guys are well how many players currently on the La Kings roster have the option -tunities to go play in a different league good point right like wine that's people choose words for a reason right he didn't say they like some people need to retire or some people need to get their butts in gear whatever he said like they don't belong in the League right so it doesn't seem that failed to me I would I would agree with that would you not I he's looked I mean he's been here he's been here for a short time he's only had a about colds are five five five games well him and others yeah we five games in now and I think he'd he conceived the right being on the wall for the guys who are showing up every night and the guy's McLellan's dinner time yeah and and so I think even in that short time even even in that short amount of time time he knows these are the guys who are showing up these guys who who are gonNA say mailing it in but maybe not giving the effort that they could or should be every single night I mean this is how good a Mario Lewis are just as an and this is this comment is directed specifically at everybody on read it who said as they want to get rid of Trevor Lewis a Mario and Louis Line there Corsi was seventy point eighty three percent okay we're on the ice for seventeen in strength shots against and seven sorry seventeen four and seven against everybody else got got dominant I the Wagner Campaign Clifford Line as much as we love Clifford that they were eighteen percent like they were on for two and on for nine against Cope Araya follow on their about fifty percents Lozad Carter into fully we're about forty eight so I mean Cambay Wagner Clifford your one grinder in two guys that maybe you need to pick it up and that line got pushed around but Amani Owen Lewis like it's I don't think it matters so you put on a Monte on this line I like the John Walker I'm also in love with the motto and I don't feel like I'm that clever for pointing and everybody's in love with him likes I saw a bunch of tweets like the Amati Walker show guys Ed yeah they're good they're good players they're they're diamonds in the rough right yeah there weren't team as rough diamonds they weren't they weren't highly sought after player they were they're both undrafted both undrafted Oh man yeah I'm not sure of locker I drafted right out of bowling green so it make me look but they're not they're not guys who are top ten draft picks or guys who now people had their eye on saline Walker under undrafted right Bowling Green Mike Amalio third round draft drowsy so again you're not talking about a first second round you're talking about guys who are diamonds in the rough and we're seeing that they can play at this level so when I said I don't even remember if I said this on this episode Dave that's how we go a lot I've said in a long two days think I just set it to Davis on his show before you showed up for the Great John Davis yes but this is how totally lost with WHO I've said what to or what I've said Hutu anyway sad again this to me this season is eighty is a collection of eighty two short stories Eh and each short story is a murder mystery or whodunit or some kind of like detective Slough type story and every every game opportunity to answer a question so tonight for example the question was how are the kings going to perform in their second of back to back nights in five games and we got her answer gotta answer here's my here's the question I want answered in the next chapter is also Wagner Good Long Pause there well I think it's going to take time to figure that out yeah is it going to are we going to figure that out on Tuesday probably not but we right I mean maybe a little let me let me scored a goal tonight yes but here's here my whole thing with kind of a kind of strange goal but a lot of his goals are and and I like Austin Wagner Awesome Wagner was a bright spot in an otherwise dismal year last sure but how many times have we seen a guy shine on team that was no good and then failed to find a spot as the team improved or is he moved onto another team and I'm not saying that that also wagner mm-hmm have a role in life sick is that kind of leading in that kind of sense you're not to single out players but it's when he got here he didn't have any skills that the scouting staff of the coaching staff would have said were noticeable other than the fact that he is jaw-dropping -ly unbelievably fast right and so last year he was on that fourth line it was Clifford Lewis and Wagner and as we've previously stated Lewis and Clifford or so I mean that line sort of jumbled a bit because Louis half the year with a broken foot but now right we had the top line is bad back Yep we've got clifford a motto and Louis or Amalio Louison whoever and Clifford into wherever what is what is often wagner role right leg last year I think he had a role I'm not sure that they've sorted out what his role is this year and fast guy isn't a role it's a description right so so so I guess the question shouldn't be awesome wagner good we know awesome wagner has talent the question is what is Austin Wagner's role because right now I don't know what it is his fault yeah I don't I don't have an answer I think time is going to have th that's the next chapter of the of the of the collect well let me ask okay so I'll ask you this is is Austin Wagner a legitimate player I think he could be but they have to I mean somebody was saying that part of the reason doc is struggling to fit in the league right now is because the you know in back in the good old days of eight years ago you could free Range Rover and now every team has rely so much on structure and systems that that if you can't right you can't mold your game to fit your coaching staff than you're you're gonNA have a bad time right so that's the again I go back to the question of role is often wagner a speedy forechecking guy that they're gonNA look to to score goals or is it going to be the he was last year where he's on the fourth line and they're asking them to bang his body around and play a little bit you defense and then every now and then blaze past all you know all other nine on the ice and pot one so far this season they seem to kind of think while he scored twelve goals last year and look McClellan said he didn't want to rely on previous opinion about players so maybe McClellan sees this guy he has this one elite talent and let's be clear his speed is illegal lazing yeah and maybe mccollum is just trying to get a handle on how best to use this this unique tool because wagner speed makes him unique right it's not something too quickly look but I just don't feel like they've quite sorted out what his role should be on this team I agree and I think Wagner's speed is a lot of what keeps him in the lineup night after night yeah because maybe he's not finishing but he does give you that threat that you can open up the game a little bit if you have a guy that has those type of talents but I think you're right and I think I'm guessing here I'm just throwing darts but I would think they would want him to be a score and find that finisher aspect to his game mm-hmm added to his game so you have the speed demon type guy but he's also capable putting pucks in the net now if he scored what you say score twelve last year I think so okay so if you plan for a full season is awesome wagner capable of scoring twenty goals I mean I think he could be yeah certainly could be I mean part of this problem Tom is I've already I remember this specifically it was you I gave the Rhino in the Rhino and I remember I remember leak gas leak and that's right I mean last so so so part of the problem is you can't really dig too deep into the weeds on the negatives from last year but I also think you can't necessarily look too deep into the he's on the positives right we see Carl Grunt is not in the lineup every night Austin Wagner's online up every night and when they are they're not they don't look as good as they did last year and part of that after believe is because the rest of the team around them last year hit essentially given up by their own admission and so which made them look better yes those were the guys that were out there fighting for their fighting for spots right yes they'll they'll be the guys that score the one goal or the two goals in a five two loss also the guys that are fighting to keep their spots is this year yeah but when here but here's the thing when you come to the rink and there's eighteen guys who have who have called it a year and your giving one hundred percent you stand out right when you come to the rink and you've got on Jaco Petar in Dustin Brown and drew doughty an Al Martinez Jeff garnered illegal doc Tyler Toffoli Michael and Matteo's et Cetera all giving one hundred.

"Here's your host Jesse Cohen Welcome back Kings Fans My name is Jessica and this is all the king's men with the rain playing Friday night then back to back kings games on interview process and the only reason that burs El Cerro to meet your commenters and Sarah Out of the top ten in his draft was to start Ritzy was too cocky anything or views and he gave me a new talking points ahead of the draft and ultimately my I was talking what makes not far not brazelle sort of the best players nice yeah yeah of course that helps out slave your Not just need to focus hockey in Ricard every day throughout their defenseman through his legs yeah how does the level of play like all teams are where he defines about here I am I game I saw there's Nick Small Rink does he thought that years more chances than there are an Gimme slivered faster on unit to be due to NFL bank excuse me thank you very much for joining us and good luck with the rest of your season tax big thanks fans were asking me and each other what happened in that eight to two loss to Vancouver joining me now for the first time in a long time my personal goalie Guru Cat Silverman. How're you doing today cat and girl how are you I'm excellent now you and I have disagreed in the past about whether or not John quake is Hashtag leads you know that I think he is I know that you think he's not and generally speaking my personal philosophy is not to get into the weeds on blaming goalies for specific goals. I don't think it's terribly instructive for your average fan most of the time if you see a goal and it's your team MM scoring at you just go I'll add a boy that's copay that's you know that's drew nothing they could do to stop that one and it was your goalie everybody just wants to pile on him unfortunately we we find ourselves in a position where Jonathan quake has allowed fourteen goals in two games and a lot of that could be chalked up to a young defensive core I shouldn't say young inexperienced defensive core Ben Hutton is new toby Orne foot is an eighteen year old rookie Walker in Roy are relatively young in their career and drew doughty's obviously drew doughty but for the first two games of the season I do WanNa Kinda get in the weeds and that's why I've brought you here Cat Laura we're going to be asked is not going to be how was GonNa Save Funds Funds Maybe not very word for the weather whether I think the Jonathan quick is elite per se or or not it's never fun watching a goaltender give up fourteen goals in two games it's been kinda hard to watch pretend as accomplish this quick exactly one who very clearly loves winning and loves representing his team in a positive way which based on the stat lines right now is I don't know the light goals all right let's start with the Edmonton game we're not going to go through goal by goal I wanNA start off by saying hang from my perspective that First Minute Fluke goal that's one of those cases where like I said I'm not interested in assigning blame it's the first minute it's Connor mcdavid it trickles in bounces off a guy's foot like that's placing blame on that one but not on quicker kind of interested in placing blame on his teammate 'cause that's the second goal or I guess that would be the first of two the the first of two goals that his teammates kicked in of those fourteen so we can scrapped twelve goals in two games but sure but if not just I'm just not like there's just there's always every year there's GonNa be a handful of goals where you just have to shrug and say okay what are you GonNa do right and a first minute goal in the first game after the team's been offering days at bounds off Roy's foot I'm anyway we're not GONNA get it at one what's your quick summary of the Edmondson game for the other five goals it's it's kind of funny because obviously the oilers in offensively gifted team they may not be a cohesively gifted team they made have a goaltender who likes to allow empty net goals which quick didn't allow any of those like but the there's the reason then NHL teams should have been allowing as many cross ice passes in the slots as the kings were allowing from Edmund some of those goals were very much Jonathan quick spot I think both of the James Neal goals were Jonathan quick spot I believe that was the second and maybe the final goal in sixth yeah and both of those I think the first of the second goal Jonathan Quick makes the initial stop it's not his fault that the team has allowed James Neal to sit directly on its front doorstep he doesn't seem to know where his rebound went he looks to the right pocket bound slightly to the left he starts lifting his pads off the ice in all the James Neal has to do with Tuck it underneath him I think he could do that and can you kind of see the same thing on the final that's another one where once again James Neal had no business being that close to Jonathan quick I that's that's on the defense but once again Jonathan quick just didn't seem like he knew what was going on directly in front of them and that's that's kind of on him but the rest of them mm-hmm if we're talking about the Jonathan Quick who won two Stanley Cups yeah he has to stop all because cross ice pass happens during every show gain you have to be able to stop a shot off of across ice path but they're hard and they're all happening in the low slot there and that's not that's something that you know if your goal tender's not at the very top of his game of course he's going to allow that goal so quick little rusty if he's frustrated if he's tired both like physically and emotionally what's going on with this team it's understandable that he's allowing these goals because they're high quality shots it's not like he's allowing a bunch of stinkers although he did allow one that I believe in the in the gaming Vancouver that was like a point break John we'll get to that one no most of the most of those ones by Edmonton were high quality shots that he was allowing an it's concerning the team allowed essentially six high-quality chances in that game it's just also unfortunate that all six of them were allowed to go in which that's the party it up but that's where I'm willing to say listen I'm not gonNA blame a two time Stanley Cup champion one time cons might when you're an Olympian for getting a little bit older and a little bit slower so there's one goal against Edmonton where roy gets beaten badly on the outside as as crosses the Blue Line and he and he sends a a wide open uncontested pass a two the goal scorer liking which goal was but but Adrian Kempe as Oh covering that man and he puts sort of half hearted effort into disrupting the guys shot and so he winds up with a wide open shot from the Hash marks in the Slot what uncongested with speed and that's where I say like okay maybe Jonathan quaker the peak power stops that one but I'm simply not gonNA blame him for an uncontested shot in in between the Hash marks on a rush right like that's just you know if if that pass had been an from Copa Tar to Brown and Brown and buried it we wouldn't be spending any time thinking about whether or not the other goalie at we as kings fans you might because you're good the goalie golden but but kings wouldn't have spent any time critiquing the goaltending we just say like amazing amazing shot and we move on with their life so let's move to the Vancouver game because that's the that's the eight that's the most recent one it's the eight goals it's the one where people are wondering why not pulled Donovan Quick at some point now Jack Campbell played the night before so from your perspective as a goalie coach analysts and the goalie before we get into bringing down the goals do you think leaving quick in was the right decision from the coaches standpoint I think entirely depend on my not bay Tim I know that we saw last year ironically enough it was games I believe eighty eighty one for the kings and then for the game eighty one for the Arizona coyotes where Jonathan Quick played the game the first night allowed something like seven goals cold with eleven minutes to go Jack Campbell finish the game and then he played the subsequent night against the coyotes got shelled with like something like thirty five shots in the first twenty minutes consistently and I think that if they want Jack Campbell to be the reason they win any games this year they do have to ask Jonathan quick every once in a while when he has games like these re allows you know eight goals they have to say hey are you willing to just see this one through 'cause Jack late last night and we're gonNA need him to be a healthy for the next game and we're going to need him to play the lion's share the starts this year you willing to stay for the rest of the game and Jonathan Quick Cares about Jack Campbell which everything we've seen from him suggests that he does you know he's a fantastic teammate in a fantastic goalie partner I think he probably says yes leave me in for the rest of the often calmer gains no additional benefit by being put into a game behind teammates who are fatigued no longer care about the game as a faint purely as a fan at about I think it was the sixth goal 'cause I think five and six came in rapid succession and at that point have I was I was thinking Oh my God get him out of there what are you doing what are you doing and then I saw your tweet and a few others about you know let Keno Campbell just play the them Quinn Hughes first goal I'm inclined to think that that was just a really nice shot yeah that was really good angle shot might my exact note Ansari to these goals and wrote a senator frightening right the no goalie finishes the whole year without allowing when the the sutter goal less good yeah that one once again in the common seen here is going to be bad defense allowed the connects to all but walk into the slot path to center ice and he was just beaten and that's one of those things where I don't know if he's not tracking correctly I don't know he's not moving as well as he irresponsible for me to assert anything based on my speculations but a something is not looking correct there when shopping it's like that are coming at Jonathan quick and that was one of them and so it's early in the early in the period now student nothing then.

"You can come down and watch the practices. There will be scrimmages during practice and won't be as organized as one Thursday night, Tuesday Wednesday, Wednesday Thursday morning early in the morning. So again, if you have to battle that traffic, I apologize, but it is worth. It is fun. It's a chance to see some of these guys for the first time. And it sounds like everybody from this year's draft will be there and like I said, party, first time to see him live gave Lardy will not be there. Unfortunately, but everybody else. Can you say total non sequitur the best mascot in the NHL Bailey has been listening to the program? I got a note that Bailey has been listening to the program, so shadow to Bailey, I told him, I would I would say Hello. Did he say anything about it? No. Did he signal anything with his? Yes, he said, get down here to development camp next week, and you get to meet Jesse Cohen. That's what he that's what he's signal to me. It really should be an awesome time. It does. He said a good opportunity to watch these kids any opportunity to watch hockey during the off season is great. So why not come down here? It's what makes this facility and being here on the west side of LA, and you could see all the renovations done to this acidity. It's been remarkable. All the changes that have happened. You could see the changes right when you walk in from outside there's changes to their get down here to the Toyota sports performance center. They added Ord. Yes. Okay. Yeah. I wanna make sure I'm saying click one quick, disclaimer. Yeah. Not a ton of actual hockey to see a lot of drills, talkie. Sure hockey drill. I just don't want people to come down thinking they're going to be watching these guys playing game. Yeah. You know it's Rasmi with the exception of Thursday night. Will there will be like I said, inter practice scrimmages, but it won't be, you know, there's now look, having said all that I was watching paying rapt attention to Matt luff shooting rish shots against a dummy two years ago, and I really liked that guy. Yeah. So, so don't tell the people that they're not going to see how should absolutely impersonal. It's not like you. You're not watching it. Like football stadiums. If you've never been here to Elsa good note to the sport. Toyota sports performance training center. Whatever it's called. Now, I should really know that come here because it's a very intimate experience. You get up close and personal with the with the players Dave electorally show. You his desk where he works. I wanna hit you guys up about the trades that have today even though the kings haven't been necessarily one of the teams in the the top list when it comes to the big move so far. They did make the one trade when they were swapping draft picks move up in the second round. But as far as the big trades, go, Jesse PK, sue ban is the biggest name that has changed homes. Now these so far today going from Nashville to New Jersey. Devils team that is somewhat in a rebuild. I think they still would consider themselves rebuilding team. They made the playoffs two seasons ago. They missed it this year. They wind up with the number one pick falling in their lap, essentially, so they get Jack hues. And now they get a defenseman and PK sue bam. This looks like at least on the surface like a complete salary, dump by Nashville PK is thirty years old, but he's still a tremendous defenseman and an all star caliber defenseman. They haven't for three more years nine million per season. Now, talk is that maybe Nashville goes out, and they spend that salary cap space on one of the free agents that's available. On the market. So it could just be a swap in that regard for them. But ultimately, doesn't it just look like one team? Really hit by the salary cap that just had to dump that salary. And the devils are saying, hey, we got tons of room. We'll take him. Yeah. First of all, don't think I don't know what you're doing. Rob. For those who don't know robs New Jersey Devils fan. So this is his way what you're talking to me kills. No look, I saw tweet today that I thought was fascinating. And I, I asked Dave. Rub. Can you name the two trades that have included a player with a cap it of nine million dollars or more? No. They're both PK sue ban straits. So look, I don't think there's any. PK sue ban brings both on the ice and off the ice. However, we may be we may be entering the stage of his career where the word overrated might start to rear its ugly head. I think he's everything the devils needed. They needed that guy in the blue line, the leader, they need a reason to keep Taylor hall. We'll tell me defense old. They definitely need defend. Is he really? But they also need offense from the times, drew doubt even traded zero. So it's either he's really highly coveted or. Yeah. Someone didn't want. Okay. Patrick Marlowe second. Big move of the day goes from Toronto another salary cap dump if you will because Toronto's got the cap to worry about and trying to sign Mitch. Martyr is going to be the saga that plays out for the next several weeks or months, he may hold out like we saw last year. I mean, we're talking about a guy who is a stud that they have to find a way to sign, and I don't know if somebody wants giving him an offer sheet or not, but more lines are being the casualty here lease the first one as he's going down to Carolina for now. We'll see if you ends up staying or if they ultimately wind up having to release him and make him a free agent again. It looks like a move that helps Carolina though on the surface. Yeah, you're getting a veteran but they probably needed a veteran a mix into that club. My understanding is, they're gonna buy them out. Is that is that Marlo has said he only? Wants play for San Jose. His family's moved back to San Jose. And I'm absolutely tickled pink, with what I think, might be coming down the pike, which is that San Jose might have to yet again, change their captain, because with the signing of Eric Carl Belsky might not might not be back. Dave. I don't know if you remember, but all those years that San Jose was coming, just so close, and then choking horribly in the playoffs, it was, like every two or three years, they'd be like, well, now the captain is Marlow now. We're taking it away from him. Now it's Rob Blake. Now rob lake's now show Thornton. We're taking it away from Joe Thornton house Marlowe again, we're taking it away. It was like every two or three years. Someone new somebody new, and they finally shed their reputation as chokers. They finally became you know, a c-, quote unquote serious contender whatever, and now they're looking like they may lose pavilion, ski and if they bring Marlowe back and honestly, just from a PR business amp. Can't imagine why they would. LA kings on the clock. By the way, picking one nineteen we will update that in a moment. I just think it would be fantastic, if Marlowe left the sharks and then came back building win a Cup and they have a new, I just it would it would every time the sharks, do something say is this. The shark is thing that they could possibly do the kings, picking Kim new scene. And at one nineteen defenseman good job on the pronunciation name you can barely read right now defense Kim it looks like new seen a nice job obvious. They are the saga that kick, but they are very good team. And all they are pretty good goaltending is questionable. But they're still a quality team unless they lose guys. Well, I hated the the Carlson contract, I think everybody outside there were going to Asian hates the Carlson contract. Just too many years for a guy who's at his age with the injury history. Got an injury this year with a groin just had surgery. So it's just another one ad list. I, I understand why they gave it to them. I think they want to be. In contention right now. And they're trying to win a Cup right now and he probably does help them right now. But when it comes to down the road, I think they're really gonna hate that contract from year, maybe four or five on the other big trade today as we go around the league with the big trades that have happened. So for Tampa Bay trading JT Miller to Vancouver. It's Vancouver team that is stocked with young talent young prospects with Brock Besser and Elias Patterson. And now yet JT Miller is only twenty six to that group. Looks like they gave up very little just a couple of draft picks. Not a first round pick involved. I don't believe so just picks for him, maybe it was a conditional. I, I have to look at that deal again, but regardless you bring JT Miller guy, you probably can have in that organization for a few years. I like the way that, that organization is taking shape. It, it still early for them. And they're still very much rebuilding. But they had a good year, a year, I thought they took a nice step forward. Didn't wanna make an a playoffs but still nice step forward for them. They weren't playoff contention for a long time. And they have those young studs to pretty good team Travis. Screen is on a really good job. Yeah. In vancouver. And I think he might be a little bit underrated. I don't think he gets the obviously they didn't finish well, but, but considering the pieces he hasn't placed there. It seemed feels to me like he's a little bit underrated as a coach. We'll see what happens in the next couple years, once these guys really start to develop Pedersen's only gonna get better. There's only gonna get better. My question. There is. Okay. You bring JT Miller with goaltending situation, which is which is a big question Mark in Vancouver right now. And there's only so much you can do about that. But that's your team goes as your goaltender goes. So if you don't have the goaltender good luck, but one of the, you know, we talked about the timing and how important is this is one of those off-seasons where goaltending is going to be available. Sure, right. Whether it's Bobrovsky or one of the guys from Carolina or the guy from Colorado who's named Varlamov you know, could be Jonathan quick. Like they're going to be opportunities for Mike Smith. Maybe. Yeah. Fans stage that is that is Colorado team by the way that is going to be very dangerous. My goodness. Ideally, they wind up drafting Bom Byrom with the number four overall, pick MacArthur, they already have Macara, and it looks like those two on the blue line for years to come..

"Jesse Cohen. Welcome back kings fans. My name is Jesse, Colin this is all the king's men there hasn't minutes hung going on. That involves the kings bought things are about to start happening, and they're going to happen fast. So spooling up the old podcast in advance of this period. Once the finals end, we'll have the buyout window. We'll have the draft the award show prospects week free agency all sorts of things. There's only rumors involving the kings of this stage, but I thought it might be fun to dig into some of them before we start seeing any real action. So without further ado, here's me, and my father. Joining me now all the way from South Carolina. The man who taught me everything I know about hockey but not everything he knows my father. How're you doing dead good? How're you doing? Just a maximum. We're halfway through the Stanley Cup final. I suppose if it goes seven games a little bit more of a go six. So I thought it'd be a good time to address a lot of the king's rumors that are sort of swirling regionally to really one of Vardi been debunked, but we haven't added podcast in a while, so I taught and then I was gonna time as any, so let's dive feet first into the one that actually will matter. And that is the conversation of whether or not they will buy out Dion phenomenon now their opportunity to do. So is forty eight hours after the last game of the Stanley Cup final, and they have until June thirty th after put him on waivers he has to clear unconditional waivers before they can do it or because he has no move clause. He can bypass the waiver process and just say, by me. Out. Obviously, the ideal scenario is putting him on waivers than somebody claiming him. But I think everybody realizes that that's not likely now. Not unless there's some team that needs to reach the floor, which there very well may be, but we won't really know that unfortunately until after. Right. You know, all of the bad proxies unlikely. Yeah. So the question is good. They rather than will they because we have, you know, I have no idea. We've heard different things. The question is should they I think you and I disagree on this aisle boy? I say, yes. And I say, no, so, yeah. Why, why? Yes, What's your argument three as my? Well. Here's the thing all doing the right. And, and taking a side, apparently, he's a really nice guy. I can have a lovely wife. I can speak from personal experience. He is a lovely. Yeah. Yeah. So taking that aside. But, you know, hockey wise all during the year every time he was on the ice. I remember I'd be tweeting you, like, okay. He's got a go it and honestly, it's almost like watching chara. They seem to like Charlie little better. But he is a Bruin, right? But like he's not charity more. Right. He's just an old guy who used to be chara, which is, you know, okay for noth- was, so was always, right. Like, okay he didn't do what he was supposed to do in Calgary save the franchise he didn't do what he was supposed to do in Toronto. And he didn't do this supposed to do in Ottawa, and he is and fine. We got him on a salary. So it's and at the time I was all for it, and I still think it was a good move because it was a better thing in this situation. But it turns out he's just really not right. He's not helping at all. And a lot of cases he's hurting. And so I always think with a guy like enough, who's a veteran who's a nice guy. You can't keep benching him. Right. It's not. It's not good. It's not good. It's just not good. Not good now. Okay. So you think it's not good for anybody writes, clearly not good for him. But I just don't think it's good sound good for the fan base, right? Like when you start benching veterans in any sport, you always just run into like, what that what the heck's going on. So. And so I don't think you can do that. And so if you can't do that, then you pretty much basically, you gotta play them or you got to buy them out. And to me playing them just doesn't seem like an option. He's, he's just bad out there. He's makes mistakes. He gives up goals. He's not, you know, he's if he was the big tough guy that he supposedly supposed to be, then I might think you know what he's worth having. But it really isn't. Well, so I don't feel passionately about this one way or the other. I mean, if they've I'm out, I won't, I won't think it's the sign of the apocalypse of the franchise or anything I understand all the reasons I just think. It comes down to expectations and what you think the team is going to be over the next two years. Because if you think the team's gonna have a bunch of exciting, energetic players who are who are maybe if they're if they're not even competing. But if they're interesting to watch, let's say than, than you're right? Having him out there, if you're trying to figure out who to Param with that sort of a brutal decision. And if you're gonna bench him, you're right than there's an article every other week in the athletic cry. You know what is the end? You obviously after specially after last season, you want to avoid any kind of locked room, dissension, I get that. I just don't think that there will be that many exciting or interesting nights because as you and I have said, a number of times on his, I've said on this podcast. I just don't think they're going to be able to move anybody. Only say with that. But what you also have since I don't know if this is what you mentioned up, but it made me think it by the other reason I think you need to buy them out. Is that you do have right now a whole bunch of young defensemen? Right. But you still have like we think Dow, these young, but, you know, I look in the calendar and realize, I'm pretty old so he must be getting a little and you know what I mean. So doughty is old Martinez is old. I and as an old, I mean, you know, better in there now they're now veterans. Yeah. And, and I forget who else is on the team. But even. Okay. So you have those two that I think there's one, other one isn't there when forward, right? Who's which he's not? He's not all, but he's been around a couple of years. Right. But anyway, we have all these young guys. And I think they all need, we the team needs and yeah, it doesn't matter win or lose. I'm not saying gathered in front of 'cause. Oh, then we'll be Stanley Cup people. I just think look you've got all these guys that are young. They moved a couple of minute out last year. Some seem good some not. So sure, I say rotate 'em in and out for the whole year, and then, you know, was just getting much better idea. Yeah. And they and they all need a chance to play. Sure. My only pushback on that is, as you mentioned this drew doughty there's out Martinez. There's Derek Forber that's three right there. That's an Doughty's twenty nine. Martinez is thirty one. This is according to cap friendly, Derek Forbes twenty seven, and then there, Sean Walker, and there's Matt ROY they're both twenty four I think Sean walkers, irregular NHL defensemen. I do too. But again, twenty four is not really that young. No, no. But he needs a chance. No, I agree. I agree. I Sean Walker assuming he's healthy. I think should appear in eighty two games next season. And Matt ROY ROY look say, watt ROY look good. But then there's also clay, there's also Mike Anderson. No, there Sean does either all those guys money likely yet. Well, sure. But, but again Brickley is also not old and was brought in last year with I think the expectation that he would play regular NHL shift and then spy in spent the entire season in Ontario. So the question I have is, is it better? And this is just a personal belief. I just think it's better to warehouse all of the young talent on -tario together. Let them do what the Marlies did right compete for a Calder Cup in the age altogether. Let them figure out who's the leader who's the cut-up who's the heart. Who's the grit guy who's? The elbow grease who's the skill right. Figure all that stuff out in Ontario away from the nightmare that you're gonna have happening in L A, which is even like let's say they do buy out enough, where somebody does claim him on waivers us. Still have what's going to happen with the do what's going to happen with Martino Martinez isn't necessarily the player that Martinez used to be, you know, who's gonna be paired with on the forward lines are, are they going to be able to move this guy, or they're going to be able to move that guy's Coble, Chuck in jail with the new coach is to Foley than abounds back. What's going on with Carter's injury? Like they're going to be all these sort of the list of questions in the main locker room is so long. Yeah, I, I hear what you're saying, like, I'm not, I'm also not, you know passionate about it. I just think comes time. Look, they only got the it's not like this guy was Ghanem on a salary swap deal. Right. And a and we need to move this other guy out. You know, he's he's done yeoman service for the team for a couple of years. And at this point, he, we gotta move them on, and let's, let's get on. So they swapped them out for Gabric and, and, you know, and that was to me. It was still a good trait, because we also got what's his name Thomson? They really liked. We gave up, make sure who I really liked. Yeah. I, but I yes you do. Like him, I like Thompson better than shore. But whatever. Right. That's fix a one. So I don't know if there's not a king, he's not a guy who you know, the fans or attached to he's a he's a deficit player on the ice. And I just haven't feeling that when you have a deficit old guy like that on the ice. Like, in other words, if you say to me, well, he's teaching the young defenseman. But I'm not sure that I want him teaching now maybe that's not fair. And he, he's really good at that part. But in terms of being on the ice. It's it's killing wherever else, he's on the ice with he just does make a lot of mistakes, and doesn't really add a whole lot. Right. Because he doesn't really fight like I know he's maybe one of our top guys, but I'd rather buy him out. And then figure out figure out, I rather get some young tough guy. You know, on the fourth time I mean I fought with David Jack about this all last season, and I sort of at the end of the year conceded that I thought they were. Right. But now I've gone back to thinking that I was right. I don't I don't actually care for the theatrics the post scrum, you know, shoving rushing. You know, their attitude was like, we need someone to show push back in my attitude is like not when you're in the last place in the league, doesn't it just doesn't matter. And it just makes the game. He wasn't. He wasn't like with that. Yeah. They don't need push back. They need someone to push. Right. The minus twenty one on the ice, which I think was second or third worse on the team now. I don't even I don't even necessarily know if I believe in the idea of teaching on ice stuff, like I think, players, are at this point in their career, especially on a team like the kings, once you've cracked the lineup a kinda think you are, who you are. I mean obviously you can refine your game. But I don't think Sean Walker is gonna learn. How to be in NHL defense from Dion enough, what he might learn though. What I do think actually might be worthwhile is how to be a professional athlete off the ice. And that's the sort of thing that I think you can learn. Yeah. That I wouldn't say that the value of that is worth keeping a player who.

"I mean, it's created by Jesse Cohen, weeds yet. So I already, I like weeds along. Humanizes female prison inmates. Also, what I love about the show is it's not your traditional like pretty boys pretty girls. No, I mean at all, but these people have now, you know, a transgender character, Butch characters, elderly characters, like Fronton center. Fantastic. And with no makeup? Yeah. And so realistic and graphic and brutal, and it would be on some bull cost. But yeah, I agree. Like my wife was instantly hooked, but the first season. Okay. Second season. Okay. Third season blew me away that I actually love to third was the one with the v. Esa main village. Awesome. That's what really hooked me. And then again, four kind of went down five. Last one with the whole riot was brilliant as well, but I understand why the most feud most popular show. And again, I think this is the one that really took Netflix. Store whole of level crazy is she won like awards. A lot of them nomination, some spectacular acting. And I mean, it's a great show of binging. It really Haussa consciously is a little hard to binge sometime that makes you wanna kinda take a break. What kind of silly orange is the new black is such juicy, drama, fun. That just moves along. Okay. Muster of none still have not seen that. I'm bringing up kind of towards the because it's so underrated love that Ari. It's just brilliant writing. It's very smart, very intelligent about exactly Jacksonville trades. Yeah, Mostert done the expression he's as he's kind of plays a fictionalized version of himself. Okay. And he's just kind of aimless and he's going through relationships and jobs, and it's not really about anything. You know, each episode is kind of. Vig net of a portrait of life for relationships or dealing with different issues. But while it's funny, it's very small. I know what else to say about that. It's a fun on well-written. Yes, show that deserves a much greater audience, I think, and it's actually won awards. It's being very popular. Okay. The crown. So that's a show that kind of think burst onto the scene. There's only been two season. They were both spectacular that made Klaff foil like an instant song. The class Foy. Right? Yeah. So the season one, I remember I forget which awards show is the one so much when the costume to. Anyway, she was amazing. Fricken doctor who's good in what's his name? He wanted the dog Mattis meth, Matt Smith. He's brilliant. He's amazing. Yeah, her husband. So obviously she plays the Queen. He plays Prince Philip and, oh, Vanessa. Kirby as the system is the system, but also in season one. Awesome. You know what? That's what really hooked me on the show actually because I was so blown away with an American actor. I actually love John Lithgow. He's as a Brit was like, really on this goes Churchill. He was. He was Berlin. Nominal was actually exactly how I pictured touch. Oh, yeah, he was domino. The show is so eloquent. Sumptuous -ly shots. The acting. Fantastic. Yeah. And now I'm realizing that made the star of cliff Wayne and finesse occur be who now was just in mission, impossible full out and now clad, foia. I'm really excited about that movie coming out. It's really brutal. Looks like a seat going with the dragon tattoo. I liked pick for that..

Yeah, people come from all over the Southland and then he comes out in a suit with like sunglasses on. He's carrying the torch like singlehandedly for Satcher. Satcher want the new like Clapton or something like that. Older crowd still wants like a new guitar gunslinger, but he liked plays recognizable tunes, but he has it all on the guitar. He looks like one of the guys from from what's what? The the were show skis, what's that thing matrix? Yeah. Oh, yeah. He does kind of make drinks. He wears a leather dusters. Got like slick.
