"You need more information, toe make decisions about your life and your future. And that's where Jesse Jones of the Cairo 17 come in to reach out to them because they're listening. And when you get home watch tonight. 5 to 6 30 PM on Cairo's seven television. Welcome back to the Tom and curly show. Races over there. I am over here I am Mike Lewis and the issue we're going to talk about now. Well, I'll tell you what I think about it. And just let me tell you what the issue with the issue is. First issue is first that That it's a story on common is about the fact that police officers are meeting now with or not in bright now, but they have been meeting with the with the King County Equity now. Association to to sit down with folks who have been pushing the defund police concept in policies and to find out what they conduced have come to a meeting of minds as to what we need to do. Moving forward with policing. In Seattle now before I get into my hot take on this, um, trays when you saw the story. What did it make you think? Um, man, you know, I go on like a bunch of different directions. I'm happy they're talking. I think it's important. Um, I'm not a defund the police guy. Um, However, I do recognize that there is need for massive change. So It's kind of like how how Martin Luther King kind of says that writing is the voice of the people right when they're unheard, I feel like that's what this is. This is us and our communities saying, Hey, there is a major problem and someone said, Oh, yeah, we'll get to it. And we're like no now and so I'm encouraged because the fact that they're talking tells me The police. Now understand? We are not playing around. You're going to, you know, I mean, you're gonna have to make some serious sweeping changes, or we're going to demand the changes because where a government for the people by the people, this is all still a part of that concept, And so we're going to get the changes that we want and need. How we get there would be better if you guys would work with us, and we all work together because we are essentially one whole community. But we haven't been that for so many years in particular in the black community. It is never felt like since I was a child. The police officers were part of our community know they were. They were a threat. They were someone to bully. They were someone to to harass you for no reason. Right? So now Hopefully, this will start some long needed discussions. Sorry. I know that was a long winded answer. No, wasn't all. No, it wasn't it on. And the funny thing is, it's sort of Ah. It's along the lines of what I was thinking, except I was, except I wasn't quite quite so eloquent it just when I first read the story I thought like Man. What a shame that this is a story And to the extent that There had been mean what you're saying, Essentially by making this a story is not so much that we are doing the latest generation of of you know, the defund the police issue, and the protesters were not what you're actually saying is that No one had been listening. And this is this is such an unusual thing. That is now it rates at the level of news. I mean, like, they say, always say internal is like we don't write about every plane that lands we write about the ones that crash and so and so the issue here is that For the life of me. I could not understand why these conversations haven't been happening all the time. I think part of it is that there has been, you know, I think I think there is not as much community engagement and I don't still mean like the community based policing and like there's a lot of sort of like window dressing that's thrown on these issues. But I do think that There is something to be said about having police officers who live in the neighborhoods where they patrol and I do think there's something to be said for having police officers who are actually not just isolating in cars all the time. And I understand they have a lot to do. I like the idea of it is At least extracting some of those duties that we call police were now that really don't need to be. And they would agree that we don't need to have police force and I do hope then we take that opportunity to find some way. I mean, I have. I own a business in town, and my relationship with the police has never been lousy. In fact, when the very few times I've ever had to come up if someone was acting up in front of the bar or something like that. They've been spectacular really nice. I also know that my interaction is not the whole in a whole sub total of interactions that people have with police. But here's the thing I have four or five times called the Seattle Police Department and said Hey, I'd really like to get to know the officers on duty who are patrolling on those evenings Not because I want special access, or I want to build a ping him on the cell phone so they could come by. But I just want to know I want a real to walk outside and no one by name, and they made this like, well, we move people around a lot and while blah, blah, blah, and it made it very clear that if I can't as a business owner in, you know, uptown Get some sort of regular relationship. Cash knows if anybody else can right, Mike, let me be honest. The thought even what you're thinking is so far from the realm of how many of my community or even thinking right like that It's so far because When you're treated one way that you're not, you know, Have them come over here. Oh, no, I don't want them to come by my business. I don't need them around. You know, it's there's so much to this that that kind of moves me. So the people listening, Think of it like this, right if you were to look at these two sides, So you have King County Equity. Now you have the police department and they're sitting down in there having a conversation. If you think of the idea and say we'll both people have a point. Right. If you were to say, Well, both of them have good points. Well, then you're actually in agreement with King County Equity now, right? Because what that is saying, is that There's a there's another side to this that has never ever had an opportunity to be heard. And so when they start proposing things don't be so afraid of everything that you hear when they start provoked proposing things like, um, re investing money in different places. This is important stuff. It's not bad. We have been giving a boatload of money to places that aren't getting the job done. This is just a matter of our community. And not I don't mean black community. I mean Seattle community. This is a matter of our community going. Wait a minute. Maybe we need to take another look at this. Why? It's not working. So they started with three questions. What creates community safety. Number two. What creates community Health and number three what is needed for communities to thrive when you stop and you really start to enter those questions? Um Now you can start to get it things through this story. I was reading about officers who were starting to share racist behavior.

They're like get the braces off except like four shots cool. He's that's dope. He loves them a lot of. But you know. I got a theory on these now. Now that like female rap is like at the forefront dakota right now i i see like i understand why women females auditory tour female rap. Is that bad. I mean the grammy say it female the words or so say like best woman. The breath today say should the grammy say best woman rap artists. But they don't say best guy they say now male and female okay. so that's why coached member. I remember you got coaching but took. But you won't hear me say female. Outside of saying i was saying. Was you circle female yearbook application. Because sometimes when men say they use it like they wanna say bitch but they say female day and let me tell you about this female. Would they really mean. Let me tell you about this big. I feel like don't even. I won't even give them. I feel like bitches to is is is less degraded and how they actually use. Female is like the change in your pocket. You know what. I'm saying like the way me and talk about females eight says it sounds more. It sounds possessive to me. You know what i mean. It's possessive is. So i am and i had this one female over the other night. I had a ten. Ps you know what i mean. I think that's so many women's share that mean that i was looking at the news. One all men doing social media how to be women if you'd have to say that used to the database though and is far as like without straying too far away from what we talked about the they just don't really they are done though but they love to tell you what they like. As far as the problem with that though. But i'm looking at it in those specific foot. You bet the piss me off my girl drug chains it kind of draws wore what she changed the kind of draws or two years in brief i am now. That's a good choice it is it is. I was wearing boxes but she changed the kind of make you anymore. Did she buy you some briefs and you like the more bottom. She brought me song. I like them. Yeah and then. "Been around for 50 years and you're not around for 50 years. We're not doing the right things. You know what you will never see Jesse Jones from Cairo, seven at a Bucky's auto service to never come together unless his car needs that's true. He will take it. They're just guessing. Alright, Wilderness. Rescuers face a busy winter and it's all of course. It's complicated by covert 19. You gotta go out and catch the find These guys that are trapped up there. Didn't they find somebody recently? A couple days ago out of Mount Rainier, right, Tom? The guy had been lost out there, and I think it actually did. That does sound familiar. Yeah, this is the again like the perfect storm. Outdoor recreation skyrocketed this summer and a lot of it a tribute to the fact that pandemic has kept people locked up. And so there's doing more. They're doing more and more things outside. We are because it's safer and they expect the same thing to happen with winter sports as well. And because of that they expect more rescues to be needed. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic. There have not been as many sessions. Usually when they're new people. They're heading up into the mountains. They do a lot of like teaching and training about what happens if you get in trouble, But they also have serious classes and courses on for the rescuers to go relieve them, you know, define them and to save them, and they have been able to do as many because of the pandemic restrictions. So it's like there may be more people that have less information about what they're doing, getting stuck. And then they're gonna have, you know, maybe Fewer people out there knowing what they're doing to help kind of rescue them, And that's the big concern. So it's just kind of Ah, warning that the resource is going to be strained. And if you if you're going into the back country, know.

"To government statistics, Washington State is home to more than half a million veterans and thousands of active duty military It's go to Cairo Radio Realty Time traffic. Tracy Taylor, What's going on out there? Wanna mess all of a sudden I would say within the last, like three minutes of sub wreck on a self five and just south of I 90 we can't crash there. That's blocking and it looks like we're taking up 12, possibly three lanes. So this is causing quite the quad for drivers not only coming through the convention center Coming up the bridges, too. So if you're coming off the collector distributor lanes or better yet, the West Seattle Bridge, you're going to find this to be a bit of an issue. Bronson watching the lineup on that North found five drive that's been a mess from, say, the start of the afternoon. We're looking at a line up right around one 48th. And then you're going to hit the brakes just after 1 20 eights, and that goes all the way out towards Marine View Drive. A lot of that has to do with the state Patrol is still taking up that right lane for the crash has been on the right side for a while. Lineups on the Valley Freeway. Continue leaving Highway 18 just got a tweet. Go on Trace. Why're we stuck all the way up to 4 10 1 of this has to do with the earlier crash near Ellingson. That is long since cleared. Now we're just dealing with the residual backups and the problem on westbound 5 12 pioneer. That's what's causing the clog their traffic. Reach out to them there listening and when you get home watch tonight at 5 to 6:30 P.m. in Cairo, 17. He's fighting for you. Okay? The pollster who thinks that Trump is ahead. This is the same guy. Is this the only guy that I actually thought that Trump is going to win in 2016? He's the highest profile and to just to give you an idea of how accurate he was. He predicted in 2016 remember, everybody was like 89 98% Chance. Hilary Supposed gonna win. He predicted that Trump would win the electoral college 306 22 32 Trump got 300 for yes. That is how close an accurate he was. So of course, people are curious. Nate Silver made a name for himself when he got all 50 states right when he predicted it. You know, whatever race that was, and he became a star. Now the Trafalgar group and this guy named Caylee who's running it Now He's the lone guy out there or one of the few people other that thinks Trump is ahead right now, Obviously nothing happens until actual election day. But he says that he thinks that he's got. He's picking up the same kind of tendencies that he picked up that no other pollsters did. I think he's got a fascinating ah sort of methodology and part of it. John is based on something you've sided on this show cause time. Oh, that's the Bradley effect. Yes, he says. There's something called, so there's something called social desirability bias. And he says that they're certain Do you want to quickly tell explain the Bradley effect? Do you want me to Canadian town? Bradley was running for mayor of Allah and he was black. And when pollsters would get on the phone and they would call people at home and ask him who do you think you're going to be voting for? People would say, Tom Bradley. I'd like Bradley, and the reason was because they like the fact that in 1980, it was a big deal for them for someone to blow vote for an African American, and they like the feeling of telling some complete stranger that yes, I'm voting for Bradley, but then when they got into the voting booth They looked at the thing And you know what? I'm I'm sorry. I'm not and Bradley got completely blown out the water, But all the polls had him winning. I think of 67% of the people thought would win, and it's now known in polling circles as the Bradley effect. And he calls that social desirability and for whatever reasons to say that you're for Trump People don't want to admit that they think that they be looked down upon all of this and says so. You have to figure out what do people really think you have to get past this Bradley effect past this social desirability, so he has different ways to do this first up, Jesus. Most of these polls they give you like 25 to 30 questions now, he says. No normal American is gonna want to sit around for 25 minutes and answering all these questions, so he has 5 to 7 questions. Max. That's the first thing he does because, he says, that's more typical than the second thing he does. That's important is that people face to face don't want to admit Tio voting for Trump. People on the phone might be more easily person, you know, persuaded to tell the truth or see what it is really in the heart because they don't they're not face to face with them, And they may even be more faith truthful in an email or a text. So what he does instead of doing 11 consistent way he does all forms because he figures you need to get what wherever people are comfortable..

So maybe there's some sort of an interesting very plausible fast enough on Mercer to get an accident. Don't happen to Jesse Jones really now from Cairo seventeen running into somebody and you crash car and the bad scenarios. It's a police officer guitar, okay? But it's just such an hour scenario. His jesse. I'm so glad you thought of that. That's exactly what I was thinking. Like, oh, no. What are the great Seattle memories? I have is during the snow being up on Capitol Hill where we lived. And there are people daring themselves to go down the hill, and in the streets were absolutely code with snow and a guy gets up. He's a BMW. We are by Virginia. Mason by the Sorrento hotel sitting out in our window drinking hot chocolate watching this guy gets up to the top of the road. He's looking down the hill. Like, no this dude is nuts. I know and that he inches for no no in the inches Ford. And then he's passed the point at all return, and you look at his wife, and you could barely see your face. But she said something along the lines of. Now goes side another road. Now, we're watching and it's starting to go caddy compass starting to spin the BMW going down the side street headed down straight down the hill. And then a car is coming through the intersection, and that car can't stop and that car had a really cool logo on the side of it. And it said Seattle police side of the car and the cop is look it up the hill, and you can know the two people in the BMW or realize we're going to slide straight into police cars and thank goodness. No. What is hurt? But you know, the cops get out of the car with not just license registration hissy an IQ tests, something like that does that ever happen to you. If you've been in a circumstance like you've just know it's coming, you know, it's going to be bad. I had I had not like that. I had sort of. The bad. The almost version of that when I decided to drive down a portion of Queen Anne hill in the most recent snowstorm, just because the other road was blocked. And I thought, you know, I'm a decent snow of downhill doesn't matter driver. You are you just get lucky or not? And as soon as I turned the corner, and I thought well, there's probably no one out. I can dislike sneak down the three blocks. It's kind of steep. But even if I slide it'll be okay. And that I look at the bottom of the hill. And there are four news cameras. Down there. Just waiting on me. And I and my girlfriend is in the car making that same reaction that you're that that guy's by just inch down instead of.

"Ninety four point five FM on the greater east side, an elderly couple moving from California to Florida found out that the movers kind of dumped all their stuff in a storage unit in Federal Way, and the movers aren't gonna help the storage unit not really being helpful. And so they turned to my next guest. Jesse Jones from KIRO seven Jesse. Thanks, john. Bye. Jason what's happening, man. What's going on? It sounds like you're trying to figure out this. Crazy. So this couple was just doing the right thing. Moving from California to Florida. They get to Florida. They're waiting for their stuff's. No. Once they're what's there? They call. The mover nothing. They call the broker we don't know. They get absolutely nothing. That guy has to do. The husband has to do some investigation. They find out their goods aren't a storage facility in Federal Way. How does it get from California? That's mostly in Florida up in Washington. I have no idea and obviously the company's not returning phone call or write or emails asking them. What the heck is up that being the case? So the couple of in says, oh, we finally found out who the storage company is let's give them a call. And the storage company says. Yeah. You can have your stuff for three thousand bucks. Well, here's the deal the movers damaged some equipment. When they were dumping their stuff course because the is invalid because this is what kind of company. Yeah. These movers are then they had back when and the law allows the law allows the the storage company to go after the owners. Yeah. For which to be fair to them, right? They didn't ask for this mix up and they were holding onto it. So I I have some sympathy I suppose on the storage company was really caught the milk. Because here's the thing. The lease is not in the person, the family who stuff is in it. The Lakers the Lisa's not in their name in the name of the people who dropped it off. Okay. So they literally even if they wanted to pay they were like they were going to try to work. So now, it's gonna be three thousand bucks nothing. So. And here's what makes matters even worse. They can't get worse. The moving company. During all of this. Loses. Its license to be a mover. The US DOT now says. They have a stop work order. They can't drive anybody. In the meantime, we come to find out they had seventy eight complaints, the two thousand eighteen alone. Okay. So this is just not a good organization. No, no. Were fined ten thousand dollars, and they still haven't even paid the fine. So you have a family. Who's in Florida? Eating off paper plates by new mattresses sleeping. Literally, those mattresses are on the floor and their goods are up here in Federal Way. It was a tough situation the storage company, obviously pass to set a precedent. They can't let somebody come in. So they basically say you have to sue us to let you in. And I called him up. And I'm like, yeah. Well, is there anything, you know, we're not talking to you. We're not talking to you. They they fight. And then just this week. Just this week. The storage company decided that it can work something out with the family, and they're gonna let them have their stuff for free just this week. Meaning because you were on their case. I mean, obviously, hey, listen, I'm will take credit. This one was a matter of the courts, I think it was a number of factors. I think I was one of those factors in. But there was a court case. I don't want to throw a lot of shade on the storage company because their earnings that spot Dern, really bad. Yeah. But the movers come what can be done in that regard. When they've already basically been been told you can't operate anymore. Have to find a new mover, and I'm trying to help them out there. Okay. So now the issue is the storage unit is saying, okay, you can get does the family have to pay anything. No. They don't have to. Yeah. So. Wiped it clean, and they cover themselves in case of any future potential lawsuits. Exac, exactly. So now they've got to figure out how to get it from Federal Way to Florida. And I'm I'm trying to find somebody to help them out with that. How can we help with that? Because that's a big that's a big job. It's a big job in some of it is going to depend on how much. Stuff is actually there. I have some pictures that I have I obtained that show. Like tape over some of the mattresses and whatnot says leakers on it. Okay. Showing the kind of people they are. There's also tape around another one that says Arezzo black lady. Jeez. Arizona blackley. Now. This just tells you who these guys are not the storage facility the movers. Exactly, no name. No, nothing. But at least the bleachers can say, so we don't know how much of their stuff is actually near because who said they dropped it. Yeah. And you can't figure out or they're not telling you why they put it in this storage. My guess is they were doing another job that was in the area, and they were going to share some of the space. I guess I don't know. And and according to the family, they came up in a writer truck. And so they didn't even have a name truck. My supposition is that the feds are coming down onto them. And they just wanted to get off the road. That's my feeling because the feds had we're definitely looking into them. Hit them with a ten thousand dollar fine. And at that point, they might have been like, you know, what we're out. Yeah. We're out of the ball game. They haven't paid they're fine. So they, you know, they have the stop work. And I think throughout the sad thing is I think for all of us is that when you're moving you are trusting. Yeah. Never ever ever ever ever ever go cheap on moving you find the most reputable person. If you ask them how much it costs, and it's going to be in the ballpark of a couple of thousand dollars from that. You know, who the reputable movers are the promise, folks. Just don't have a lot of money, and they wanna go cheat. And then they look on the internet, and they say, oh, this this group does it for three thousand and they'll move your for five thousand if you look at a legitimate company, and it's eight or nine you need to pay the eight or nine this family paid the broker three thousand dollars the movers came down and said, we're not gonna move unless you give us four thousand dollars more. They negotiated that down to two thousand dollars more. And then they start their move the stuff went to Seattle. They went to Florida. And now they have a longer move than they had in the first place. Now, you have to take it from Seattle all the way down to these guys in Florida, which if they end up having to pay would have been what they would have originally paid if they went with a reputable company, but but they as you said, I mean, it's a lot of money. And when you see a deal of two or three thousand dollars. You jump on that thinking, hey, I'm not gonna get taken advantage of because you just don't think that way. Exactly, I think, you know, the reputable company. Yeah. And you can go out there, and you can see them the everything from the beacons may of all the companies that are legitimate. All those guys you go to those guys. And it's the one and only time I will tell somebody to spend more money than they should. Yeah. It is the only time I feel so bad for this family. Do they have hope at this point? No, the family is going to be up here next Friday to get their stuff. My hope..

It's people calling nine one one when their pets get into marijuana. And it's not just their pets who get into marijuana from ABC, San Diego guy named Mark Grover men. Some some praying as well at the vet a quick diagnosis said just about every day Moscow likely ingested marijuana, which has later confirmed experts say in some cases, eating marijuana for dogs can lead to seizures. And in rare cases death scary. Because you know, what else is bad for dogs chocolate? You know, what else he like is? They will see the cat stuff. But eaten pot? What are they doing? They're coming across a brownie something that they're going to snack on because that'll marijuana jerky. CBD oil treats that you can give your dog. That's totally different than what this is. This is a consumer adult product that for people that the animals are getting into. And then, you know. Yeah, you're absolutely supposed to call your vet. They'd probably ask you do you ever around the house, you want to go look and see where you keep it. So THC is Don toxic channels, but it definitely affects their behavior. The funny thing is that if it is a pot, brownie, for example, the chocolate is way more dangerous to the pet than the actual THC is, but one of the things if you actually look into there's been a variety reports in this on the increase in calls to nine one one about about potted animals, the the one person speculated, I think fairly is that the rises coincided with legalization. They call the mover and the movers like not answering the phone they call the broker their hot. They hire. No one's answering the phone come to find out their goods were taken instead of going to Florida. It was heading northbound to a storage facility in Federal Way where it was all dumped there. Now, let me let me tell you what happened. So this family. Trying to find somebody. They go to a broker the broker says, hey, you need you need is three thousand dollars. They pay the broker three thousand dollars the movers show up. They thought they were moving with the broker a different company. They chop out and say you always four thousand more the movers head to Seattle. They call the storage facility. You have our stuff the storage facility says. Yeah. But it's gonna cost like three thousand dollars. What why fees that have been racking up this whole time? And the knucklehead who was driving the truck broke some of the equipment at the storage facility. Of course. He did. Right. So they're going to charge them for all that the stores facility two storage facility. Goes you know, what? Now that we think about it.
