"Hello and welcome Saltzman podcast episode three hundred fifty one Jesse Chap Marnie Wasserman and we are here to take your health to the next level. Each week we bring you inspiring and informative conversations about health and wellness covering tablets of nutrition. Lifestyle FITNESS MINDSET. And so much more and this week. We're speaking with Peter Walsh. He's the author seven previous books including The New York Times bestsellers. It's all too much enough already and most recently lose the clutter lose the weight. He appears regularly on the Rachel. Ray Show in his a calmness for o the Oprah magazine and Peter has hosted several TV shows including clean. Sweep in extreme clutter. Today we're focusing in on his new book. Let it go downsizing your way to a richer happier life and when I saw this book it definitely jumped out to me. Because I'm so into minimalism and simplifying and downsizing just fits into that realm and downsizing something that all of us are going to have to face at some point in her life. We're GONNA eventually get older and need to slow down and get rid of things in going to a smaller space. And we're also going to have to help other family members says we go through. Life and friends downsized so as parents get older and things like that so really interesting book great conversation. I know you're GONNA love this. And if so many great things at Jesse and about some of the things that they get into include helping people downsize what malignant clutter is. Are you hoarding digital photos? Do you suffer from? I might need it one day clutter and I know I'm certainly guilty of this. I love holding onto things that I just might need one day. So there is lots that I'm learning from this episode and lastly creating zones in your home for storage really important message for people who are really looking to get organized and think about downsizing and at the very least minimizing what they have around them and again. This is something that's gonNA apply to everybody so definitely be sure. Share this episode with family and friends help spread the good word and thank. You had time so here. We go with Jesse and Peter. Hello Peter Welcome to the podcast so excited child with you today. It's absolutely my pleasure to be here. I've been looking forward to this summer excited about this. I'm pleased to be here on. Love the new book. Let it go fantastic. Read and I really love this story. You share in the introduction where you get personal and talk about your father being yell for quite a period of time and your mom actually took care of them and then four years. After that she ended up moving into assisted living she ended up passing away. Which led to you? And your sister Julie going in there to clean things up into sort through her stuff and it ends up. Most of her stuff ended up donating to a local charity which is great and in the end. You guys are standing there after. You've completed this task and sorted through all her stuff and you only had two boxes and I think it's just important to highlight this message. Where a lot of people are going after collecting so many items and we have so much commercialism and things being pushed at us in a lot of people are valuing all these items and things that were collecting over a lifetime and this just shows at the end what is really there and everything was condensed into two boxes. That really mattered. So just a really powerful story and I'd love to get your take on that. There were chew stages that the two boxes actually will what was left over from room in the nursing home and it was a it was a really amazing moment. Julie my sister who on closest to weigh it kind of highlighted. What it all comes down to. And we know the CLICHE. You know you can't take it with you but you know. My parents raised seven of us. I've got three brothers and sisters. Neither of my parents finished eighth grade and put the seven of us through college and you know everything that my mother and saw the valued was not in the boxes. You know my mother off instead it to us that his his seven kids and the truth boxes were a anyone looked at them. They were absolutely nothing and yet somehow I don't know you know it kind of choked up just thinking about it that my mother had this incredibly rich lives.
