Bengals beat Ravens to avoid coin flip, set up home rematch
"The Bengals beat the ravens 27 16 to avoid a coin flip for home field when the two teams meet again in the AFC playoffs next weekend. Cincinnati scored touchdowns off three first half turnovers by quarterback Anthony Brown. Joe burrow was 25 of 42 for 215 yards one touchdown, and no interceptions. If you didn't win this one, I guess technically we would have won the division, but wouldn't have felt like it. So it's good to get this one. We're going to have to play better next week to get the win. Especially me. So it's great to get the win, but on to the next one. Jesse Bates the third and Mike Hilton picked off Brown who was making his first NFL start. I'm Dave ferry.

"Since any Bengals, welcome Joe burrow back, throw it through in 7 on 7, so with Tom Brady taking two weeks off, Joe burrow had taken a couple of weeks off and now back in the fold. How much of their success last year surprised you TJ? All of it? I'm just being honest. I don't believe anybody including the people involved with the Bengals thought that they could make a run to the Super Bowl. But now, you don't expect a Super Bowl appearance every year, but you expect at least I do. I expect a pretty good run for the next at least handful of years. It concerns me that Jesse Bates is an encamp. They're not going to re sign them the draft kind of showed you that they're not going to re sign them. And who they drafted, the defense was a big reason why they made it to where they made it. Played the chiefs twice in the last month. Both times in a second half, they pretty much shut the chiefs down, and so that's the defense. Yeah, the offense, they get a lot of the credit they're in the headlines, but the defense is the reason they had the type of year that they had. And so if they can't do that again, they'll be good, but making that type of run, everything about that run surprised me. So you weren't, you weren't the former Cincinnati Bengal going like, hey, watch my boys are going to be really, really good this year. No, I thought Joe would be good, just training out here. His confidence, it was just different. It was just different the way he carried himself. But being there as long as I was, no, I didn't anticipate it. I felt like they would be good. They had good players, but we had good players when we were there as well. They're just better now than we were in this year will show me that what I just said is true. They're better now than we were because I believe this year, they'll have a really good year as compared to when we went to the playoffs and like, oh, we're going to come back and be good next year. We're all young and we weren't. I think it's an interesting part to it is that if you go back to the start of last year, there were questions about the coaching staff. Remember they'd only been there. He was going to get fired. Correct. Going to get fired, and now he's the defending AFC champion coach. But now it becomes on some other, on some level, maybe more difficult, right? It's hard to make that climb, but even harder to sustain. One because you have a more difficult schedule. But two, because everybody, people are up for when the Bengals come to town, which is the opposite of how it was for a good portion of time there. I mean, you go back two and a half years ago. That was the worst defense in the history of the NFL to two and a half seasons ago. The worst. So to go from there to now everyone's not just taking you seriously, but they got you circled on the calendar. It is going to be interesting because Pittsburgh, you're working through what's their quarterback going to be. Baltimore, Lamar is going to be there going to be their quarterback, but they're coming off a little bit of a disappointing year. We'll see what they are. And then you got Cleveland.

"Matthew Stafford never had a playoff win until this campaign now can he go win the Super Bowl. Stafford throws the fate back shoulder Cooper cubs got it. Matthew Stafford's done it again. They need to gain one to keep their hopes alive and Super Bowl 56. He flings it away up north down. Aaron Donald got there the greatest of all time on defense does it in the biggest moment of Super Bowl 56. A Lombardi trophy for Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Rams are world champion. Welcome to NFL live presented by Windows 11 and Intel. We'll hear more from you, right? But Marcus, what did you see on that final drive? Matt Stafford delivery. And brother, messed up for delivery. I was going to come in here and make you mad, 'cause he did throw two interceptions. But we gonna forget about it. They won the Super Bowl. Yeah. But here's the deal. That is why Sean mcvay brought Matthew. That last drive to get a touchdown was the reason why I show mcvay traded Jared Goff to get Matthew Stafford because I needed a guy to overcome when I'm not on my game. And let me tell all of America. Sean mcvay was not on this game. In this Super Bowl. But Matthew Stafford delivered Matthew Stafford experience showed up his arms straight shoulder, ball placement showed up, but more importantly, you had ten other guys in the huddle that said, this guy can lead us to a touchdown. Yeah. And so everybody level increases. Everybody job heightens because yes, if we do our job, our quarterback will get us there. And y'all know I said on this show a long time, a year ago, two years ago and I said, man, I just I do not trust Jared Goff. He a liar. I trusted Matthew Stafford in that situation. Even after two interceptions, I still felt confident that he would make enough plays in order to give his team a chance to win it. I think two things stood out for me throughout the game that allowed that drive to happen. I thought he was phenomenal with his feet. Specifically early against Lou Anna rumo, their defensive coordinator for Cincinnati's. The Bengals is a set that he gave them, and then really good job using his eyes. Look at him, just climb the pocket on second 11, don't force the football. Go get 7 yards in a scramble. Dude, this is the getting to number 5 in the progression to Cooper Cup on third and four, just watch his feet bounce, balance pounds. Look how quickly he's getting through that. I'm telling you, this is a different guy than when I played with him 6, 7 years ago, his feet, his feet, the reset, and then his eyes watch this angle. Hold, hold, hold and then come back all the way holding that safety jet, Jesse Bates to find Cooper Cup. And I think the thing is when you do that when Matthew does that, he listens to his feet, and then he uses his eyes great. Then he plays really smart. You know, I know he threw the two interceptions, but I would push back and say, there wasn't there was not a single throw that was careless. That was reckless. It was like an armpit. Right, he's trying to make the fit the ball. Right. So, you know, that was really impressive to watch. And he doesn't get the opportunity in the game to go on that game winning drive. If he doesn't do those two things throughout the majority of it. What struck me about the game winning drive in particular is something that markers said, which was McVeigh to not have a very good game. And that drive in particular, it wasn't Sean mcvay using the joystick, manipulating the quarterback getting those wide open play action throws. We're so used to. It was talent. Yes. It was the quarterback making special throws and then a special wide receiver getting open and the play calling really didn't have that much of a big deal to do with any of it. The 22 yard throw, do people come. I just can not stop watching this throat. You know, for a long time with Matthew Stafford, he would make throws similar to this in Detroit, these kind of no look trek passes and what would happen was the videos would come out and Lions fans would say, well, if this was Patrick Mahomes, it would be on SportsCenter. Well, the problem was they were in meaningless games. In the most meaningful game at the most meaningful point at the pivotal moment in Matthew Stafford's career, he delivered. He looked off the safety, held him there, looked at Clinton or pardon Hopkins, and then he threw one of the most beautiful past I've ever seen in my life. I honestly can not get over how you do. You know what was super impressive about him even with the two interceptions. And I actually retweeted, I was like, I'm not that mad at the first interception. You could tell that Matthew Stafford came into this game saying, I'm going to be measured. I'm going to be patient. And I'm going to let things come to me. And he could have gotten lost in the Super Bowl thing. And on that drive in particular with the Bengals DBs were playing off patiently working his way down. You know, how much though of the trust and Cooper cut allows him to be patient at times. And then take those risks when he needs to. But reps and reps and reps of all the off season together and believing you're going to be where you're supposed to be. And I also think this. And we mentioned this a little bit throughout the season. Matthew had to transition a little bit from I'm in Detroit, we stink. I've got to play hero ball and try to make the crazy throws to I'm on the rams. I got a great team around me. I don't have to force the issue. And then we saw in the last month when they needed him to play big time ball. He was able to do it. But I think it was that transition from him to believing. I don't have to make all these crazy throws all the time. You know, the other thing too that has been prevalent in his career is that Matthew Stafford doesn't play well in the biggest game. So I think he shattered that. Significantly, too. A little bit more on it. Yeah, let's go to this. He led the NFL with an 89 and a half to VR in the fourth quarter of one. The season. That's insane. Join 2007 Eli Manning is the only quarterbacks to lead three game winning drives in a single postseason. So the Super Bowl win caps off an incredible postseason run for Stafford. That may not even be the best way to say it where you can't come up with enough adjectives to describe what he's done. How does this change the narrative Dan first Stafford's career? I think he's a lot Hall of Famer. He's a lock Hall of Famer and he's a Super Bowl champion. And I think he's been called a lot of things by a lot of people. You have to call him a Super Bowl champion and you have to call him the Hall of Famer now. And I would put into context of this four game run, I would say it's one of the, if not the most clutch, stretch performances, we've ever seen from a quarterback. You just mentioned it three straight game winning drives led by the quarterback that hasn't been done. I mean, when they need him to make the biggest plays on the biggest stages, he did it week after week after week, and I think that to get in the Hall of Fame and Michael Irvin said this this morning, you gotta have great stats and you gotta have moments. He's gonna be top 7 in everything when he gets done. And now he's got one of the greatest postseason performance stretches we've ever seen. I think two man, what I was gonna talk about is even being measured in that game. We ain't seen there are Henderson all season. And Matt was like, oh, you got to match up? Yeah. That's where I'm going. Right. Van Jefferson. Same thing. When they lost OBJ, you could see this offense kind of go flat. And it was Matt Stafford and that final drive saying I am the best guy on the field with the ball of my head. Yesterday he did all that without Odell Beckham junior, Robert Woods and Tyler higbee. Yeah. But I was gonna say an in and also it's an interesting contrast to what happened in Green Bay, where Aaron Rodgers was so locked in on devonte Adams didn't really target any other wide receivers, some open guys, staffer didn't miss those open targets you mentioned OBJ, it's a moment that really makes you sick from yesterday's game. No don't Beckham junior goes down with the non contact knee injury, and it was that same knee where he tore his ACL back in 2020. So Nina, what do you make of that news? Well, it's absolutely brutal. I mean, it's thrill for OBJ to get a Super Bowl ring, but obviously headed into free agency. If he was completely healthy, you'd have to think.

"The Super Bowl is set and just like we all thought. Bengals versus rams in LA for Super Bowl 56. Just kidding, but I really did want to pick the Bengals. Anyway, welcome to NFL live. Got a jam packed hour coming your way here. Did our skis here? Mina Kim's, Marcus spears and Ryan Clark, Adam Schefter here throughout in a bit. We'll tell you the one thing you have to know about the Super Bowl, but first, let's revisit exactly how we got here. And for this, we go to the AFC championship. The chiefs and the Bengals ready to go and right here in the second. You see an opportunity there at halftime Dan, but they don't get in position to score. Yeah, I like the aggressive mindset from the chiefs, but you can not call this play for completion and bounds or throw it through the quarterback Patrick Mahomes, take a shot at the end zone, guarantee yourself, three points, cost your team there. Chief sleeve, 21 to ten at the half over two minutes left. Chiefs up 21 13 mahomes intercepted by BJ Hilbert. And this really makes that play before the half matter. You come out, you get a couple stops, and then you get a takeaway as a defense, beautiful job by BJ hill getting his hands up. Ensuing Bengals drive burrow finding demar chase in the end zone for the touchdown. They're coming back. They go for two and they tie it at 21. Beautiful job, Jamar chase going to catch that football in a contested fashion. And then you get money back here. And the 52 yard field go on the road. It's good. The Bengals take a 24 to 21 lead. Now chiefs fourth and goal back at the Bengals 26 Harrison bucker, attending the 44 yard field goal, that one's good, the game is tied at 24 headed into overtime and good for bucker considering the situation there in the position he was put in. So the chiefs win the coin toss, everyone's thinking, all right, Patrick Mahomes has the same opportunity did last week, but here he goes intercepted by Vaughn bell. Is a really nice job by Jesse Bates though. He saw this very same concept out of the same formation in the second quarter. It was a big completion. This time he plays with discipline, that's a Devon bell. Enormous turnover. The angles give it to Joe Mixon finds an opening, picking up 13 yards. He was so clutch and Patrick Mahomes looking on as once again, McPherson attempting the 31 yard field goal. This can win it and sit him to the Super Bowl and it does just that. They win an overtime Cincinnati does to advance to LA to take on the rams and burrow had quite a game. Patrick Mahomes, though, came out red hot in the first half yesterday, average in over ten yards per dropback while throwing three touchdowns and no interceptions second half though in overtime look like a completely different quarterback. There were a couple interceptions posting a 1.42 VR, averaging just one yard for dropback, both those marks, the worst in the second half of a game in his career. Her foot mahomes said about that after the game. Which guys that were open. And I didn't hit at the right time or I didn't, I passed up on a sudden shorter. I went for something I wanted to get something deeper down the field. And when you're playing a good team and you don't hit what's there and you try to get a little bit more than what's necessary, you kind of bite you in the bite you in the butt. I guess you would say. But I mean, I gotta be better. I mean, you're up 21 to three at one point a game. You can't lose it, and I put that on myself. All right, so rest assured, we're gonna get to the Bengals here, I promise. But Marcus, how much of the blame lands on mahomes shoulders after that one? A tremendous amount of it. And it's the responsibility of the quarterback, but not only the quarterback a guy that we see ascending to being great. It's his responsibility to win that type of game. We coming off a game where him and Josh Allen goes toe to toe and if you don't have Patrick Mahomes, you don't win that game. I don't believe any other quarterback would it be Josh y'all in that day. But to see how pedestrian he became in the second half. I'm gonna take you out to the hood real quick 'cause it's a 5 of us. I gotta be fast. All right? When you hooping in the hood and you playing before all of the OGs get out there, you are dominating. Yeah. But then when the OGs get out there, you gotta kind of curtail what you're doing on the court to make sure everybody good. 'cause you get the most impacting mahomes from the first half to the second half. It looked like the OG showed up and was like a broken all that out. Stop doing all of that. Stop doing all that or you gonna have to fight and Patrick Mahomes did not respond. And not only to lay that at his feet, we talked about this early in the season. Eric B enemy and Andy Reid failed the Kansas City Chiefs as well. There was a sign of arrogance. I didn't see them run that team, run the Cincinnati Bengals out of the defense and the coverage that they were playing. I got so much to say, but I gotta let my colleagues talk. But this was on Patrick Mahomes more than anything. Let me see if I can be quick. Listen, a lot of times when you play the Kansas City Chiefs, they're offense cast this big shadow, right? And a lot of people don't like to fight in the shade. But the Cincinnati Bengals were cool with that. It's kind of like when Tyson Fury caught that uppercut from Deontay Wilder in the first fight and then he popped up like no undertaker. He then knew what the power tasted like. So he wasn't scared of it anymore. And if you watch the second half of the Cincinnati Bengals game, they go, they go man to man instead of zone on their three man rushes, and they weren't afraid of the Kansas City Chiefs. They had taken their power before. Come back from 11 after halftime against the Kansas City Chiefs in one four weeks earlier. So when you watch this team, they look confident. They played confident. They were the team that had more belief that they would finish it off than the Kansas City Chiefs. And I just absolutely couldn't believe that. So we can say whatever we want about the Kansas City Chiefs not playing well, but let's give some credit to the Cincinnati Bengals. And what they've been doing to teams in the second world offensively because on the back end, they were great and on the front, they got after that keister. Yeah, and credit to the defensive coordinator Lou Andrew for making that adjustment at halftime. Look, all things along we were saying, too high was the killer, turns out, rushing three dropping 8, but reality it comes down to the execution of the players because that three man rush long. They were able to contain him. They usually had a spy at one point it was Sam Hubbard dropping back and keeping eyes on him and then behind them is Ryan talked about the man coverage was exceptional. But that said, Patrick Mahomes had rush lanes. He had opportunities. He talked about passing up on some checkdowns. And I think when we look back on this game, you have to give a ton of credit to the bangles, the defense game plan to execution, but you also have to look at all the opportunity big OG showed up. And I'll just say one more thing here. How remarkable for the Bengals? They have Joe burrow who was literally getting surgery this time last year in the hospital just down the field from where he will play in the Super Bowl remarkable turnaround that he brought in Ellis. You he then does it at the pro level. That can not be ignored here. We will have more on that so rest assured there. Let's check in with Adam Schefter for a field report brought to you by Windows 11 and Intel Adam lots of news out there off yesterday's games. Let's start in Cincinnati, where yeah, they got the win, but their attention now turns their tight end position. What do we know? Well, there was a rough day for tight ends on both the winning teams and Cincinnati CJ suffered a knee injury was carted off the field in tears. They were concerned that it was significant, but as it turns out, it's just a sprained MCL and CG ozama believes its encouraging and is not giving up on the idea that he could be back for the Super Bowl game against the Los Angeles Rams, which you would not have thought when he was going up the field into Tyler higbee, avoided an ACL injury on this play, and there were people who thought it might be an ACL initially, but it was not as severe as people thought and he also believes that there's a chance that he could be back potentially for the soup bowl's unlikely is look when he was limping off the field yesterday with the assistance of doctor Neil eltra amongst others and the forty-niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, his future is now in question and what the forty-niners will do with him. But again, he counts $25 million against the cap, this upcoming off season. The.

"And the newcomers had a lot of snaps and this is on cincy. Jungle dot com. Share this with you here. Okay by patrick. Judas this is the week one snapped and you see the headline bengals newcomers dominate the snaps in week one verses the vikings So here are some of the tidbits. Here i will put. I'm not gonna go through every single one of these will go through some Here are here's the link in the live chat for you all but the bengals were out snapped by the vikings eighty three to sixty nine. So that's kind of interesting there. The defense was on the field quite a bit. I think there was. Also you know some scenarios in which minnesota had some extended drives and things of that nature to kinda 'cause at and of course five full quarters of play will cause that He had jomar chase had a sixty two. Snaps at receiver and higgins and boy. Only at fifty one higgins left the game with some cramps. so that would explain that But you know at march as had the most snaps on the field of the wide receiver. Group was interesting to kind of see a little. Bit of a quite from tyler. Boyd expected a little bit more from him. He did have a couple of nice catches but expected more from him. Darius hajj only at one snap so that was kind of telling a little bit as to where they think he is at from a rotational basis. Plus the bengals were able to get a lot of great pressure from the interior Larry ogan jobe and bj hill were outstanding on sunday combining for three total sacks on the inside so they didn't really have a lot of us for hajj they had a lot of snaps with trey hendrickson and You know they. They moved around guys a lot. And then of course you see here. Here's my next point. Sixty eight snapped trey hendrickson. It's seventy two from sam hubbard so those two dominated the snap counts and you can see why there was only one snap on defense. For darius hodge cam sample was on the field on a rotational basis. Twenty nine snaps. So they'd really open jobe fifty nine snaps. Bj hill only twenty four snaps in had to to saxon an additional for loss. I believe so great. Great job by larry oregon jobe. Bj hill in dj reader was one of the higher rated pf players by the bengals as well so I'm taking on the field very much. Just eight snaps. logan wilson. It's seventy two snaps but it was drained pratt He had i believe eight or nine tackles. He had the forced fumble recovery the end of the game. They're tackle for loss. He had a pretty good game. Statistically had the big play at the end there so kind of an interesting day overall from the linebacker group. I mentioned the high pass. Defense grade by davis. Gather he only had sixteen snaps on defense. Ricardo allen also had a pretty good. pf score. as well. I had kind of assumed that the bengals we're going to run a lot of three safety sets in use ricardo allen out. There are quite a bit which they did on bell was out there. Jessie bates was out. There card allow was out there and they were doing all kinds of different things on defense there so that that kind of is a snapshot of the snap count and hopefully you can follow that link that i put in the live chat there to see all of how everything played out right there. Some good news and bad news here in terms of the injury front on what's going on with the cincinnati. Bengals is scary. Moment in the game. After joe borough took a sack at came up limp living a bit on one of his legs and he is apparently fine and he was was limping off the field after a drive but he is apparently fought fine. He had his knee worked on a bit earlier this week that he is good to go by all reports in this is essentially jungle dot com as well but trains is out another week in that is not good news because Ally apple was one of the defensive players as we kind of expected who had struggled a bit on on sunday unfortunately we knew he was going to We knew he was going to have some issues there. In relief of trains we knew ayla even with trae wings in we knew that the trio of offensive weapons from the minnesota vikings. We're gonna be hard to corral. We knew that and so that they can prove to be the case Ally apple had a couple of of issues on defense but overall i thought the secondary played pretty well but regardless Tradewinds is going to be out against chicago kind of figured. That may be the case. It may be about two or three games. At least we hope that that is the worst case. Scenario by zac. Taylor confirmed that this week. The joe bureau is okay from that injury that he came up Limping a bit on On sunday and then. Of course trade wayne's out so not good news on the injury front on the defensive side of the ball but some good news for joe borough and company keeping it rolling here this. Jessie bates contract situation was not resolved before the regular season started which is usually when the bengals like to take care of these kinds of things and they did not they simply did not get it. Get it done Jesse bates wants to be paid like a top safety as he should. The bengals do want to keep him. I believe but. I'm of the opinion that they just don't like to pay that. Type of money specially guaranteed money to.

"Well of Bengal snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and then victory from the jaws. Of overtime, baby. Today. Probably. I think the most exciting game of the week quite honestly. So Bengals representing or off to a start Saturday college football action Sunday NFL action Sunday was like Christmas morning. Getting ready for week one and joining. We had Dave lap. Um we had lap calling the game and now we've got wrapped James Rippin with the breakdown. James rippin from Sports illustrated all Bengals dot com. Good morning. How are you doing, buddy? I'm wearing any. How are you? I'm doing fine. Um So obviously it came down to 2/4 down calls, right. So you go for it on fourth down, Give the ball to the Vikings on the 30 yard line, sets up the TV to a feeling who exposed the mismatch with Eli Bad Apple and absolutely stupid call by Taylor like he was huffing glue. Then all of a sudden, later in the game, we're in overtime. Jesse Bates strips the ball from Dalvin Cook, one of better running backs in the NFL, two minutes fourth and inches, hits, his AAMA and the call of the game. Sets up the field goal. Great call. He looked like a genius Coach Taylor dead a tale of two tailors. So that's basically the summary of the game right now. It came down to 2 4000 calls. I did and honestly going forward on fourth them at first time, you're right it if you're in control of the game position at the same time, if you're going to do it, and Taylor talked about this after the game, maybe don't run it right into where the Vikings are hoping you run it on fourth and one and I don't mix it Swift. But it was just, you know, maybe that's when you run a little pie action or get the ball to someone that no, you're not expecting. Because if you're going for it there, you've got to be creative. Explain, James, Did you explain why he did. Sided to go for it on his own 30 with Game in hand. He's trying to end the game. That was that was just thought. Alright, Work two scores. If we go down and score here, it's over. It's fourth and one. We have all the momentum and I understand trying to be aggressive, but that's like mad and aggressive. We're going to do that. Then it's a little bit. Then you've got to have a play called that's foolproof and just running it up gut. You know, it's it wasn't up the gut. I think it was in the Yeah, That's a tough ask even though you are getting pushed all day. Tapping said the second one I was upset, so they had to place called in the huddle. Taylor called him like you said, and they want to sneak so they could have snuck it. But The thing is, is the way the Vikings will look. They showed it was like, no, we're not doing that. Because they're going to have guys here and here in both age gaps around Trey Hopkins, and so that's going to happen. Well, let's call this play. And oddly enough, Scott, they ran this play. Zero didn't like how they ran it, I guess in practice last week, so they ran it again and he threw to use drama. And apparently, they've run this play for three years or so since Taylor got here never got the ball until this past week at practice. Burrows idea. And then it turns out being the game winner and runs for 32 yards and sets up in McPherson for the game winning. Yeah, um, in the thing, too, and I don't want to play. You know the what ifs here. But if that fourth down pass in overtime, let's say that doesn't work. In Minnesota takes that football over with a good field position at the 50. What is the fan base like today? I would think it would be mutiny because all of the goodwill that and to her credit to Elizabeth Blackburn is built up with the you know the throne and the atmosphere in the jungle, and it's a whole different field. The marketing element with a ring of honor. All these great changes and Goodwill to the fans. I think it evaporates. After that, Maybe I would have gone for it there, though, because you're not playing the top like if he would have punted. I would have been more Yeah, Yeah. Yeah, You have to try to win. And you're right. I mean, look if it doesn't go right that Minnesota with their weapons their 15 yards away from getting into field goal range. And Greg Joseph had made a 53 yard to force overtime. So it's not like he doesn't have the legs like get it. I understand that. But good news is at least for one week, though, Scott, we don't have to have those conversations in McPherson fiercely through Yeah. So, um, there's a lot going on here, too, And it's a great one for that was certainly I think the most exciting game in the weekend to be honest with you. It was a fun game to watch the Vikings 10 penalties 90 yards in the first half. I think that there's a lot of credit there. Um, and it doesn't take away from the Bengals at all. But you're giving up an entire football field in the first half. For sure. And the crowd had something to do with that in Berlin, acknowledged it afterwards. You have all those false starts early on, and man, what a help that was. Just to get the momentum on the bangle side and part of that, too, with how dominant they were in the trenches on that defensive line. I mean, those guys were moving people. And putting opposing offensive lineman in the Kirk Cousins lap. That's the worst when you're getting your guys in that in the middle, not only outside the tackle spot The Garden Center. You're pushing those guys back right for the laps of the quarterback. It just makes it hard. Even if you go back and you look at that first drive second drive that the Vikings had Kirk cousins, Mrs Masters a wide open Justin Jefferson in terms of behind him, and that would have been a first down and that suddenly you're moving the bottle and things change in momentum in the defensive tyrant. Incredible pass was off target because they pressured him. And that was probably the thing that I don't know about surprised me the most, but the most encouraging take away I have from yesterday. Obviously, the resilience and everything like that. Right. This defensive line pressured cousins. They helped keep down and cooking check who is considered one of the best running backs in the game, And that was a tall task..

"Good morning, sir. How you doing? Good morning, Mike Magic how you'd be doing Okay. Let's say two key fourth downplays yesterday. One good one bad that call from the 30 map. That was the momentum shifter. It really was. I thought Yeah, I really was. I mean, if it it, obviously, if you if you make the first down, you're in total control. But if you don't exactly, Yeah, you're in trouble. I mean, it's you know, but when you look at the total circumstances again, the field position included, obviously, you know, gave the Defensive short field that defends and got to give the Minnesota Vikings victor pro advantage, particularly on fourth down the Bengals. 10 coverage. No safety is deep, and they hit a 24 yard touchdown pass to feeling Which just changed the momentum back in favor of the Vikings, for sure, but then in overtime Yes, in overtime. And the only turnover Yeah, the only turn over the game sets it up. I mean Minnesota's driving for a game winning field goal opportunity. And two main practice strips. It recovers it. Jesse Bates stands stands. Cook up, Jermaine Crack goes in there and they practice this all printing camp. Get in their second guy in stripped the ball, knock it out of their punches. Whatever. All comes out Bangles get possession and then fourth and a Scotch. Go up top 32 yards procedure on a crossing route from the right side of the formation. Tight end runs all the way that towards the left sideline. Joe Burrow feathers a ball out there 32 yards later. Sets up the game winning field goal by the rookie McPherson, a man Does he have a freaking Howard's are hanging off that right there he does. In the game ball went to him his debut as a rookie matter of fact. Yeah, he hit a You know, He's one of those guys and there's a lot of kickers in the league. Now that that's the case. I mean, the Vikings field goal kicker hit from over 50 McPherson from over 50. Everybody hits from over 50 years you get all you have to do is get to the 47 yard line. You ever legitimate the 40 Yard on your the legitimate shot with seven yard staff? A lot of these guys can make these 57 yard field goal. So man puts a lot of pressure on the defense. Once once an offence crosses big field, they almost have to change their mindset. Now we're going to knock them backwards, Man. We got to be aggressive. We have to blitz. And that leaves you vulnerable and the back end and causing all kinds of problems. These kickers, there's a ripple effect that's pretty, uh, pretty significant. Well, I'd ask you to break down the bears and one second or less, but we don't even have that much time. So all this is indeed Dalton. Got it. You got it. Looking forward to it. All right, lad. Great talking next time. Are you doing to my audios? Same to you? News ahead..

"To Reds baseball against the Cubs here in just a little bit. We'll have the inside pitch coming up in about an hour in about three weeks, maybe a little less than that. The Cincinnati Bengals report to training camp. Hopefully with a healthy Joe burrow. Hopefully with a healthy Trey Hopkins hopefully with Jamaar Chase, ready to be that blow off the top of the defensive, secondary kind of speed, Hopefully, hopefully hopefully Lot of teams are in a lot of different places with players right now, players that have been really good players for them for years, and players they're hoping can bring them to the next level. Every single one Of the 32 NFL teams is hoping the same thing. But I saw a couple of stories this week that caught my eye, both written by a writer that I think is terrific. Sam Monsoon. Sam Munson was with the original pro football focus group. When it was in Ireland. They now operate at, um Cincinnati in over the Rhine. And he wrote a couple of stories. One was five NFL teams with an Achilles heel that could derail their 2021 season. Another words five teams Have something wrong with him physically, structurally, that will prevent them from chasing a championship in 2021 the other story that I wrote that he wrote that caught my eye was this one? Corey Davis and more regression candidates for the 2021 NFL season. In other words, players that excelled in 2020 that may be looking to fall back to Earth, either from a statistic goal or from a performance standpoint. So when you get that much information out of San Munson, you've got to get him on the air. And here he is today on the Fourth of July to join us to talk about both of those articles and more Sam Bronson, How are you on this glorious fourth? Doing great. Let's start first with regression candidates for the 2021 NFL season Now I saw that I said, Whoa! Is he trying to make us believe that these guys are going to fall off the map? But no, The articles just is that these candidates of which Jesse Bates, the third is one of them are players that had such great seasons in 20. 20 or players that you know we're just so long term, very good that it just stands to reason averages will catch up with them, so that's really the basis of the article, right? Yeah, I think you know, one of the things we've learned from all these years of doing. Kids have data that we tend to assume the players just kind of get better and better every year where they're young, and then they Reach a level and that's where they're going to play for the rest of their careers. But it doesn't really work that way. And you see these guys kind of bounce around all over the map a little bit, and the the reputation might not change, you know, player might might be held in the same esteem year on year, but he's going to play a little bit better or a little bit worse. Every single season it fluctuates. And depending on how good he was a year ago, you can have a pretty good chance of, you know, just ball parking, whether he's going to get better or worse, based off where that wants, And there was a lot of these guys that either had a breakout season last year that was so incredible that the chances are they're going to take a step back or You have a pretty good idea of what this guy's career baseline has been, and he had a career year last year, So you know, just by logic, he's probably going to come back down to where that baseline has been. Rather than continue this incredible season, the bait that he had in 2020. Well, how would you then? Great baits? Because Bates obviously was terrific. I think in pro football focus is rankings, he graded out to 20/90 percent. And as you point out in the story that's almost 30% points higher. 30 points are than the year before, so you could see where he may be trending up. But when you see a spike like that, it makes you wonder. Well, okay. Is that a career year year or in some guy's cases? Not necessarily him certainly is. Is it a contract year? Some say the same thing about Trey Hendrickson. When he was in New Orleans. Last year. He had all those sacks and they were saying, Well, you know, it was a contract year. You and I have had discussions about sex in the folly of pointing too much emphasis on those things. But with Bates, you could make a case that he simply continuing to trend up. 90 Plus is pretty damn good, not sure how much harder he could get. But the law of averages with him is, I think based or this story is based on the fact that he had that big spike last year. Yeah, and base is interesting because you know, that was year three. And your three is typically the year where you do see the development and a step forward from young players. So it fits the narrative, right. It's like Jesse Base hit. Your three took a big leap forward, and now he's the best 80 in the NFL or one of them. He was, I think our number one Great and safe. You last season. Um there are a couple of things that jump out of Just a little bit of areas for concern in terms of backing that up next year. One just how big a jump it was from the year before. I mean, it was a 30 point. Great jump over all, it was 25. Point great jump in terms of coverage when you're talking about leaps that big it just screams. Um you know, outlier, more than necessarily true development and the true raising of a gaze level. Then the other thing that jumps out is how to the heavily depended there was on Big plays in coverage. Obviously, that's a good thing for safety. But big plays and coverage are just a difficult thing to repeat your on year because it's not all down to what you did you know, as a safety or cornerback, you're a little bit at the mercy of where the ball goes. You know how much quarterback or receiver gives you a chance to make those plays? So Jesse Bait, let all safeties in combined interceptions and pass breakups. Forced incompletions. All those kinds of things did it while playing, you know most of his time of a single, high free safety where you've got more space to cover, but just the fact that so much of that grade was built on those plays that themselves fluctuate on her volatile statistic year to year. Again. It just stands logically next year. He's probably not going to have as many of those plays and that immediately is going to take some off is great, right? Right? No, I think there's no question about it. And if and if a receiver or a secondary guy is a victim as to where the quarterback may or may not throw quarterbacks figure into this this next category, you say both Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers Are prime candidates for regression. Now, now, Rogers a age may catch up with him, and there's certainly more going on with Aaron Rodgers than any football fan her team would want with regards to his contract. Josh Allen was so good last year that it just stands to reason that to expect that another year or a build off last year would be asking quite a bit. Even as good as Buffalo is. So is it aged with Rogers? And expectations for Alan, where to each one of those fit into this regression candidate thing. No, I don't think it's even age with Rogers because you know he was all last year, and he had the best season of his career. It's just that it's the fact that it was the best season of his career..

"With lyndsey patterson from the cincinnati enquirer and bengals. Beat podcast hopefully. She's got maybe a couple more minutes so we can ask a couple more questions We were levin the time here. Appreciate that i guess. I want to back a little bit on the last question from john. They're a little bit. Because this roster has been made over a bit in the in the image of zac taylor and his other coaches And a lot of these guys haven't been here very long. Some of the guys who have been looked at as quote unquote locker room leaders are no longer here. Geo bernard just left this offseason. He was looked at as one. So i guess based on maybe some of your limited in person interactions in locker room. I dunno if access were. But i guess the lack of in person stuff over the past year or so. Who are some of the guys that you're seeing. Maybe step up as new leaders. I think john and i would say mike daniels. This guy has kind of stepped up in that role a little bit and speaking with him. But i mean are there others and or do you see for see. Some new faces kind of stepping up. Maybe as you mentioned. Jesse bates he guy that maybe assumes leadership role. I don't know. I love to kind of hear some of your predictions on that front. Yeah i would actually say jessie bates in just getting the chance to talk to him. I know we don't know what's going to happen with the extension. I feel pretty confident that that'll happen when the bengals normally do extensions in nets during training camp. I i'd say you look at him. And sam hubbard on the defensive side. And he's really taken a leadership role in. It's crazy to think because just your base is not that old. I'm flipping over to the other side on tyler boyd in new tyler boyd. Because one thing that always remember it was just a couple years. Though we're at training camps are doing in person interviews and in tyler what we were talking to one of the wide receivers and i don't even think the wide receiver made the team but tyler put his around. I mean he was interview. What the guy is bringing confidence. And we've talked about that a lot with them and he's he's gonna joked kind of being the older guy in the room when he's and he's not even that old. I mean there's a lot of young guys on this team. And i think that's what's really telling his the houston who's who's really wanting to step up and lead offensively and defensively I we stayed to be determined right now. I mean i gotta. I gotta see these guys warren and obviously get more access to when we're doing in person interviews again but at the moment i would say jesse basin that is not a bad guy to be leading on on this team right now. Offense of lean defensively in. It's always easy to say. The joe burrow Would be the guy but in the wide receiver on my definitely us. A tyler boyd. Right now in terms of not being that old like my co host told me earlier this week. Do not get old because of what happened to him. And i'm just like to look up jesse bases age real quick Hate to say that he's actually younger than me. So nothing. I'm entering that stage now but i lindsay. I don't remember the first game that i ever attended but we do some research around here. We found out that the first game that you've ever attended with your father was on an october afternoon. When a certain corey dillon rushed for nearly three hundred yards and broke the bengals rushing record. Now the ring of honor has been I it's obviously a thing this year is going to. It's going to populate a certain game to be determined. We know that. Paul brown nathan Inducted and we don't have the official is on this but we can assume that the cans can anderson riley probably the front runners to go in there. If there was a third nominee that you could vote in. Would it be corey dillon. For that experience or would it be someone else off of your head or would it be some to another to i in combination aside from the two kids. I'll say this about the ring of honor credit to the team for finally doing it. I i know we've talked about elizabeth blackburn in her role and and just kind of speaking to to my brown about this and how excited fans we're going to be and they're finally doing you can look back and say this should have happened years ago but i always say better late than never. It's exciting for fans. And i want to know when the next one is going to be because i think the next conversation is where it really gets interesting Throw chad johnson. You you mentioned corey dillon. Honestly if if there was a third one that they could vote on. I would say it would be willy anderson The guy is so underrated. He should he should be going into the hall of fame in and that will happen one day and obviously they have to praise their own players. I and the that may help some of these guys get into the hall of fame but can enersen ken riley not. My third would be williamson. No fence to corey dillon. Um his time will become into. I think that's just such a while. Corey such a wild story. I don't know when you guys when you became. What what year did you guys become interested in the bengals I'm i'm the old man here. So i will say i was like five the first while the second time they made the super bowl and eighty eight. So that's like one of the first football game ever. I remember watching. And that's kind of what sparked my interest in the team at my brother. Older brother was fan My name being anthony. There is an anthony munoz on the team. Obviously who ended up being a pretty decent football player so That was that was me. But i'm i'm an old dude so i can't speak for john. I mean i started watching this. Don't time with the bengals came to an end. But i don't remember ever watching like accordingly game live so i think i was more like consciously probably two thousand four like earliest memories of team. That's a good point. Because i was look i grew up in a football loving family joke about it all the time. If remember the titans was relived. I was the curly hair. Dad's water bottles one. My brothers played i. I really had no choice. I thought the cincinnati bengals were the only. Nfl team exists. So when i went to that game didn't know a whole lot. My brothers didn't want to go because the bengals were not very good at all. He's like do you want to go. And i thought yeah. Let's do this and had no clue you know everything was about to happen. I think kind of even going back on corey dillon's time had the chance to talk to him back in two thousand seventeen and you know unfortunately it ended in cincinnati. The way did you know it wasn't all happy. Happiness went when he left cincinnati. But i was just so happy to see him get success with the patriots and i think we'll the hall of fame conversation. It's fun i throw it out there. Sometimes i'm i'm a little scared when i do it when i say that..

"It's anthony because with the orange. Bike insider bengals podcasts. It feels like it has been a year and a day. Since i have taken the area and or we've talked and bengals with you and i guess i should start off with a little bit of an apology on that front. Because we had a great show lined up for alaska last wednesday and i unfortunately had a little bit of a sudden in freak injury. Occur to me on that day So i apologize. We did not take the apologize. It's been awhile since we have not taken the air. I'm still recovering from that. Still trying to find out more about what happened with me personally but At any at any rate i You know just trying to hang in there a little bit in and work through it. But i apologize to the listeners. Because we had everything set up and then it was just kind of a freak deal and Went to the er and the whole thing so not not fun but getting through it and happy to be back talking with you. All about the bengals about mandatory minicamp and all kinds of different things going on with the cincinnati bengals with the afc north with the rest of the nfl. There's a lot of news to get to. it's been an entire week. i can't even can't even believe it. It's been an entire week before we get to the news. I want to let you know aside from this show. We've got a big show plan for tomorrow. We have lyndsey patterson prominent espn espn prominent cincinnati sports media member and You see her all over the place. Bengals beat podcast. Cincinnati inquirer all kinds of different places. So we are excited to have her on the program and talk with her about the sights and sounds from. Ota's mandatory mini camp and everything. So we've got that show and then we will be doing listener. Questions live where we answer your questions live on the air on friday so join us for that submit some questions beforehand and have yours answered on the air. Let's start were. Here's here's what we're gonna do. We're going to start with the kind of general news with the bengals. Some things that have been happening over the past couple of days. And then we'll go into the we'll go into the A slash mandatory mini camp updates and things that we are seeing there. And what you know. What all kinds of different things that are happening there. So let's get it going here. I'm trying to pull up one quick thing before we do in we'll get it set up Let's start if if we can with a little bit of some stuff. That kind of came out yesterday. This is we gotta share this for a variety of reasons. But we want to share this. Because he's one of our personal favorites on this program. He's been on our show. I guess i think it's been three times now. Mike daniels one of our very favorites. Great great guy. He's incredibly personable guy and A good football player. A good solid guy in the bengals locker room This is something through the player's tribune. Where players right kind of their own articles and put it out there. A lot of are long form type articles but this is on cincy. Jungle dot com. Mike daniels calls for juneteenth to be a federal holiday and you can see the entire kind of what his way his take on this growing up and why he thinks it should be a federal holiday. It is june nineteenth Can we won't go through through the full history lesson here. But i do recommend that you read. His article on the players tribune. There's a bit more on cincy. Jungle dot com. Obviously you can see june. nineteenth eighteen. Sixty five is is the date in history but It's it's a really really neat article from a guy who just is incredibly charismatic and has been a great addition to the bengals football team. So we would be remiss if we did not at least highlight this a little bit in in and tell you all about it. If you haven't seen it to go to the player's tribune. Or since he don't go dot com. It's linked the article it to the players tribune in checkout. What mike daniels wrote about juneteenth very very just an important article and a very good read by one of our favorites on the team. The bengals are also working with in case you have not heard. This is since jungle as well working with five coaches in the nfl's minority fellowship program. There is one named mike brown. But not that mike. Brown is our our chief. Jason markham notes in the article on cincy jungled dot com. Coaching interns kenny. Ray augusta's who is a co defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at mckendry university Larry black i believe this is larry black who actually made a stop. Yeah went went on to sign with the bengals college free agent. He was a guy I think it was. He was chronicled in the bengals. Second hard knocks where he had. He was one of those guys that everybody was kind of pulling for. Unfortunately had a pretty bad injury but has gotten into. Coaching is the defensive line coach at the university of toledo. So bengals are bringing him back in this coaching program. Mike brown wide receivers coach at the university of cincinnati Tessa grossman a grad assistant in sports performance coach at illinois state university A graduate of dartmouth college which i believe runs pretty prominent dartmouth college alums in the brown family. So they've got a good A good pulse on things there. Steve langa hopefully. I am pronouncing that correctly. Offensive quality control coach at the university of north texas And then It is bill. Welsh bill walsh fellowship program. Obviously bill walsh spent some time with the cincinnati bengals so the bengals bringing in five Coaching interns. They're pretty cool stuff. There's been a lot of talk. I think the last time. Unfortunately not last wednesday but the wednesday prior we talked about jesse bates in his ranking in this pf system and all this kind of stuff but basically there is some good news here. The bengals secondary overall is listed in the top. Half by of the nfl by pro football. Focus you know. Say what you want about that but that does speak a little bit of volumes. Based on the fact that the bengals lost william jackson top corner they did bring into dobie a ymca. They did they're getting back. Trae wayne's they brought in mike hilton. They added von bell last year. Of course they have jesse bay twos emerging as one of the best defensive players in all of football it the unit ranks fifteenth in the nfl by pro football focus. Ben lindsey of pro. Football focus writes quote a collection of secondary starters that includes trains to dobie a woozy. Mike hilton von bell won't necessarily scare opponents but there aren't many weak links in this group. Either the bengals have done a good job. Solidifying the unit through free agency over the past few offseasons. It kinda reminds me a little bit with the bengals. Have done in the secondary this year. If you go back to like the first few years of the andy dalton era member. They lost jonathan joseph. We'll have more on him and a little bit. They lost johnson joseph to free agency. They got like nate clements. They got terence. Newman they've got reggie nelson. That was in twenty ten and they kind of collected these guys via trades and free agency. And all this kind of stuff and all of a sudden day You know they ended up kind of piecing together through different means a pretty solid secondary. Not one that was absolutely outstanding but one that played pretty. Well under mike zimmer and obviously that's the hope here with this group performing well under lou room. Oh mike zimmer was familiar with quite a few of those guys in that secondary before he got to the bengals in now You know this is kind of a little bit of a similar deal. Flew in a remote guys. He's comfortable with familiar with all that stuff. So pro. football focus has the bengals secondary ranked fifteenth with their rankings..

Normally on Wednesday, we have the What's your beef? In the middle of our number two, But we put that thing where we put that thing, so there's going to be an enormous plastic tower of beef. That's coming up and that will be in our number three. Going to be with a key to leave. I'm gonna put myself out on limb and say, I think it's gonna be great. You know why I've already taped it. I know it's great. Guys so great. I keep to leave is awesome. So we're gonna push that out after the program today, 18006368686 and I need you to hit me up on Twitter and Instagram at Jim Rome. Well, let me start some NFL. And not the game itself. And again. I will be in Tampa at the end of next week. There is no radio row, but I'm gonna do this Show one show only a one off a week from this Friday, so I'll be in Tampa for that. And these Super Bowl coverage on Sunday. In the meantime, let me be honest about one thing after the season that Aaron Rodgers just completed the last thing that I thought that I'd be talking about in late January. Would be his future in Green Bay. But here we are here, The BLEEP we are way are exactly what we're talking about. Earlier this week, Packers team President Mark Murphy went on W T H Q W NFL radio and said the following I quote I'll say this. There is no way in heck that Aaron is not going to be on the Packers. I mean, he is going to be the M V P of the lake. He might have had his best year ever. He's are unquestioned leader and you know, we're not idiots and quote. So that should put an end to that right there, right? The Packers team president says they know how good Rogers is that he's their unquestioned leader. They're not idiots. That should be the end of that story, right? Especially when Rogers himself was on with Pat McAfee. I got this that there's any reason why I wouldn't be back. But look, I think there's there's not many absolutes as you guys know in this business, so it's a to make an absolute statement about something. That is not an absolute It's just I didn't do it, you know, And I guess that's why I went kind of kind of nuts. So there you go. There is some wiggle room there. When he points out that there are no absolutes, but certainly it seems like he's fine. They're fine. Why would they bust up one of the best things ever? I mean, sure, Losing the Tampa Bay in the NFC title game at home sucks badly. But Aaron is bawling out, and they've gotten amazing thing going, right? And as the Packers and the president said, We're not idiots will do absolutely everything we can to keep Rogers. You know, I'm not just keep him, but they should do everything they can to keep him happy. And not just because he is the unquestioned leader. And because he's the M v P soon to be. But for a host of other things and reasons. Absolutely. They should keep him and keep him happy. So nothing to see here, right? Everybody just keep moving, right? Let's not get into that just yet. Actually, my guy Jason, locking fora already has gotten into it. He's got a piece up on CBS sports dot com That adds a little spice a little juice to this conversation. It starts with a story jail, See writes quote on Sunday night. I got a text from a number that I did not recognize. Within minutes of sending a tweet about why I believe the 40 Niners make the most sense to be Aaron Rodgers next team. The text inquired as to why a different team would be an even more fitting destination and quote, jealousy. Right said he proceeded to lay out quote in fairly blunt terms and quote why that different team doesn't make sense as a destination for Rogers. TLC says he thought that this text was coming from producer at CBS Sports HQ who was looking to get info for a graphic for the money morning show and sure enough It turns out it was coming instead from the head coach off a different team and that head coach said, quote. Everything you said is true. But trust me, we want in on this thing. It's never really been good between him and the coach. It's been a long feeling out process and it looks like it's over. Aaron knows exactly what he's saying. And exactly what he's doing. End quote. Hello And, oh, jealousy goes on the right that what the head coach was saying was an echo off other things that he has heard from coaches, G, M's and other league personnel, all of whom quote Are convinced a bitter divorce is pending between one of the greatest quarterbacks off this or any generation and these stories Green Bay Packers and quote And then if you want another quote on that check this out from an assistant coach D. J. L C quote. It's been the worst kept secret in football. I don't think they've ever really won him over last year, They held him back. And then they picked his replacement in the draft. This guy is nothing if not calculated. He's sending a signal to the rest of the league. Come and get me. And quote. Again. Oh, Aaron Rodgers is smart as hell. And I don't know if he's looking to send a message or not, if he's looking to bust out or not, But if he is, can you really blame him? The guy led the Packers to the NFC Championship game last year..

"Lewis, he may be headed to Detroit or Houston or wherever, well, a lot of people who were interviewing. I don't know if he's got a chance, but I sense Marvin, I'll be back in the NFL somehow some way next year. Let's see here. Let's say pro football focus. Brought to you by Cris Collinsworth naming their 2020 NFL all protein. Travis Kelsey, Of course, the tight end and former You see great with the Chiefs. And also the bangle safety Jesse Bates. The third on that on that first team, you got college football tonight. Or college basketball. Excuse me. This is a problem before you get it. This is a problem here. Yeah, This is one of the things that I'm struggling with during covert 19. I don't know what teams were playing when games were getting canceled, left and right. That's true. Yeah. I mean, Xavier is playing at 11 A.m. on Sunday morning. That is correct. Then this is not something I normally you got your schedule, right? You got your TV You got you pay for the college basketball package and you're sitting there and you, You know when you're gonna watch games now, you don't know who's playing went well and then a Saint John's had their game last week postponed due to an outbreak there. But now they're okay. So ST John's is coming here tomorrow night to play Xavier Askew, said. Xavier's playing Providence at 11 A.m.. Sunday, Right here on 700, wlw, Villanova and at Savior January 13 that was postponed for a second time. Yesterday's I can't write for with the Wildcats program. So who knows when that game's gonna be played the current list of Browns with covert, BJ Goodson, Malcolm Smith and Rusa dejo Harrison Bryant, Denzel Ward, Kevin Johnson, Joel but Tonio Jamon Patterson can drill Hodge. Bill Callahan. Shadow Shade. Jeff Howard.

"Healthy for week? 1 100%. Are there gonna be any lingering issues? I certainly hope not. There's the peace now around the piece. How do you build exact Taylor, the coach that can bring out the most on Joe Burrow? I will say this and defensive Zach that for everything that you can point to and say he's not the guy Joe Burrows rookie rollout went quite well. And, you know, I think you have to give Zach the offensive coaches a degree of credit for that. But to me, it Zamora about organizationally. They're offensive line has been bad for five years. It was bad this year. Their defense has been bad for a number of seasons. I don't think there's a true difference maker on that side of the ball. Maybe, aside from Jesse Bates, who plays a position that the Bangles themselves Have never really valued that much. I don't think aside from that there's anybody who scares opposing team's offensive coordinators. Carl Lawson is certainly a piece moving forward, but their pass rush this season was an absolute mess that Joe Mixon contract. I think you can wonder about the wisdom that went into giving him $48 million when that money could probably better be used. On the offensive line on the defense. Health l healthiest Joe Mixon gonna be moving forward to me. This is not to absolve Zach of any blame or it's not even to say that he should be the coach next year. Anything teams that moves on from a guy who's 6 25, and one can't be blamed. But there's two things number one. Are we really sure that the Cincinnati Bengals are gonna hire somebody better? And Jack Taylor and against along with that are the best most qualified in the world. Do they want to come to Cincinnati and work for Mike Brown worked for Do Tobin Watch Game film with Troy, Katie and Mike every Monday morning? I don't think the answer to that question is yes, and then number two Willy for years. There's been severe roster shortcomings two seasons ago, This team had one of the worst defense is in the history of the National Football League. Over the last 32 games. They haven't gotten appreciably better. Theofanis of line started becoming an issue in 2016. We've turned the calendar to 2021. The offensive line is is still an issue. Um, they have handed out contracts and haven't worked out to guys like Gino Atkins and AJ Green and Carlos Dunlap. Great players in this histories in this franchise is history. But guys who haven't played to their previous level while they've been being paid Maura than their previous levels. Are they going to continue to do that? Are they really going to bring back Gino Atkins? Or they're gonna save his money and apply it elsewhere on the roster. What? Who are they going to replace the departed coaches with Are they going to go and get a defensive coordinator who is better and more qualified than Lou in a room? Oh, is the structure of the play calling, gonna remain the same. Where is active, the coach and the primary play clothes because it feels like that has unnecessarily worked. There's a lot of questions. Obviously, Zach is his apartment. Those answers and he's a part of those questions. But we're godless of what they did was act regardless of what they did with their head coach. To me. Those are all of the other questions that have to be asked. And to me that step that that goes well beyond simply whether or not exactly come back in 2021. I would ask him if he was let go today. I'm asking them now, knowing he's going to come back for the next for 13. Right now, Let's turn the page. I've had many talk about Luke Fickell. Good man, your friend. I met him a couple times excited with him. Tell me why. Third and two With the most exciting finish, but exciting game the undefeated You see season on the line. Why do you try to run a trick play, which is they pass instead of simply running the ball to take 40 seconds off the clock, which would probably win the game? Well that hunt Luke Fickell for the rest of his professional career. I don't think it's gonna haunt Luke Fickell for the rest of his professional career. I think he would be the first to tell you probably more privately than publicly that that is a play that is worthy of being second guessed and looked. A lot of us were first guessing it. I was there in Atlanta, Dan Horde on the radio broadcast prior to the third and to play said something to the effect of You know, the last thing in the world you want here is an incompletion. Well, the past fell incomplete. That's the last thing in the world you want. Um, that was the first guest that was That was something that, Dan said before the play was run, And I think most of us or sort of unknown in the same frame of mind that at the very least, Let's let's assume that they would have turned it over what's assume there's not gonna be a fumble, but let's assume there's not gonna be something completely disastrous. Let's look at the most likely downside of attempting a past. It's incomplete, the clock stops. The most likely downside of a running play. Not working is You're going to kill a bunch of time on the clock. You're next snap of the football is going to come with 48 seconds to go. And with that defense, and even if you choose the punch, I think most their cat fans would have felt pretty good at that point. Plus for me, you have the best. Running quarterback in college football. The Cleveland Browns did this yesterday up 24 22, but they had a third and one plate of ice the game If they convert the game's over. They had Baker Mayfield run to the right. He picked up about a yard and a half game over Cleveland goes to the postseason. I would have loved to, I would love to be able to go back and try Desmond Winter on the ground once One, even if you punt on fourth down one time, and I just can't help but think that they he would have converted and be. But even if he wouldn't have Georgia, who had no timeouts would have run out of time. All right. Lastly, what organization is in worse shape. You see Barakat basketball. The Bangles, the Reds or F C. E hate that we're lumping you Si Barakat basketball under the conversation, because what 55 consecutive games what I'll say about the Bangles, which team is in worse shape. Well what I'll say about the Bangles and they you said. What the Bangles have job to do and say what you want about the news today. So what you want about Zach Taylor? Mike Brown the framework of the organization. Any of that stuff they've got Joe Burrow. They have a guy who projects to be a star at quarterback. The players, the Reds are seemingly building around. Don't have as much confidence in and let's face it. The off season for the Reds is more than three months old. There has not been any significant additions to the roster, and there have been some significant departures. You're not as good of the team is the one that walked off the field in Atlanta, and that team last season wasn't all that good. FC Cincinnati just put together one of the most unwatchable seasons I think the team could ever have. Um, but it's the first season of a new head coach, and they're moving into the stadium. And if we could have fans this year, Willie There's a lot of people who only Care about that. You see basketball team. I didn't think they would be. I didn't think they would struggle this much now, you know, they played John Brandon talk a lot about the schedule, but they've had player departures. They're not very good defensively, and they've had a really hard time closing out games in the last five or six minutes. And they're really staring at, you know, maybe 2.5 or two and nine, you know, down the barrel because they've got to got to go on the road and play as him. You and Wichita State and I've got to come back home and playing easy, you team that is over achieve a little bit this year, they're in really rough shape. I don't know. What do you say?.

"Liam Mike's Car Wars, the official car wars of the Cincinnati Bengals. Michael also donate $1 your purchase to the Anthony Munoz Foundation. So far this season, we've raised $54,456 way to go Bangle fans. Now she covers the Bangles with features videos and stories throughout the week, and we're looking back at stories throughout the year. Marissa what a year it has been for Angles and for football, That's certainly write box you look at, you know 2020 as a whole for Aziz difficult and unusual as a year that we've had. There has been a lot of good that that's happened with the Bangles. I mean, starting off looking back things in January when they were down there coaching the Senior bowl and, you know, getting a couple of key guys with Logan Wilson and Akeem Davis gator that came out of that that They're now Bangles. I mean, I think that you're started off pretty strong when you look it, um you know them starting Tomo value a talent and then I mean, of course, rolling right into the draft, and obviously getting the guy in Joe burrow, but but not just burrow box and you look at the rest of the stretch class. You know, I think the Bangles really did a nice job and they hit where they needed to hit When you look at tea, Higgins And the season that he has been having guys like you know who came and energy having to, you know, get some start stepping up when he needs to. So you know, looking on early in the year and then, of course, the unusual off season with covert and NFL protocols and everything changing. Just never expecting to have to navigate that the way that they did with having virtual camps and virtual meetings and not getting as much face to face time as there usually used to box you know, it was interesting in that, you know, you knew the pandemic was upon us, but then, as it started become more prevalent in the day to day Factors of how we lived and operated football just took on a whole different dimension, especially even for us. I mean, you know, we were usually close to the players, and now we're on the scaffolding. We everybody's wearing the alert systems, and it just was a new brand of football. It really was. Yeah. You mentioned with the trackers and getting tested on a daily basis and Just every every little thing that you kind of might have taken for. Granted in the usual year was just so different in this type of year. But you know, you really have to give a lot of props and credit, Tomo not only the training staff and the coaches and the rest of the staff here who had to really alternate plans and and the way they used to go out of business toe change into the environment. That kind of we've grown accustomed to now, over the last 456 months here. But faction to another Really great thing that had come out of 2020 is the inspired change movement with the NFL, and you know, having those difficult conversations and you know, bringing a more just and equal You know, lifestyle to not only here in Cincinnati, but really making it across the country, and you know, it all started when the Bangles marched over to the Freedom Center. Earlier this summer and really making it known that black lives do matter and wanting to do more through the P C. I C and partnering with black owned to create the stripes don't come easy campaign, So there's really been ah lot in the community and equality and you know injustice that's really come out of this year. You know that's a great point, and I did pick up my black owned stripes don't come easy Apparel looking forward to sporting that, but I think all in all one of the other things that sticks out for me this year was the improved on. I'm going to say a Pro bowl play of Jesse Bates, even though he did make the Pro Bowl. I think Jesse Bates really solidified himself as a player in this league. I could not agree more with you. I think that was one of the biggest Pro bowl snubs of the year and you just look at his statistical numbers. He's right up there with the best safeties in the league and You also look at what I'll see he does on the field that's not necessarily gets marked down as a stat. I just cannot believe he was not a Pro Bowl selection this season, but it is really great to see the strides that he has taken. In year. Three. Um and you know, this can't wait to see what he's gonna do in your four then. Right, Right, right. My last reflects their 2020 is finally beating the Pittsburgh steals. That was That's definitely one of the highlights here in tow and the 2020 season and not just Eating them Box on Monday night, but the way they beat them having to have that next man up mentality yet again, Prime time and the fact that because of Cove it and the pandemic we can't have a full house here, Paul Brown Stadium. Fans were electric for that game. It was such a fun environment in a fun atmosphere. And, you know, talking about getting that went to that get some when MO mentum going into Houston and now into this week, and you know, ending the season on the right note. No question. We're in this segment on the right note by wishing you all the best in the new year. Thank you Box. Happy New Year to you as well. All right, thank you.
