All inside a rich chocolate coating, these little pint slices, very convenient, their hand-held you throw them in the freezer, and they're there for you. Company comes over the love you. They make friends. One slice gives you all Ben and Jerry's in, like I said, the handy easy to eat flavor. I will list some of the seven, iconic Ben, and Jerry flavors of pint slices that they have valuable tonight, though, chocolate chip cookie, go cherry Garcia, American dream. It is Ben and Jerry's any way you slice it. Listeners can find out where to buy them, just get them delivered Ben, Jerry dot com. That's been Jerry dot com for more details on how. Get pint slices. Let me be explicit right now. In this podcast, there's some explicit language. It's Thursday, August ninth, two thousand eighteen from slate. It's the gist. I might Pasqua Representative. Chris Collins arrested for insider trading frantically calling his son and telling himself. So for God's sake sell after a drug trial in a pharma company was invested in went south, though, is an Australian pharma companies, or maybe it started off south. Sometimes insider trading cases are hard to prove. One seems like Collins was unsophisticated and brazen and did nothing to cover his tracks. Now that's in contrast to the opacity that characterized his personal public disclosures. Oh, that seems like an oxymoron now that's see now that's in contrast to the pass ity that characterized his past public disclosures. A few years ago he spoke before local constituency serves a constituency near buffalo and at issue was roiling issue in. His few of his races. Why doesn't he show how he makes his money? Why doesn't he disclose his taxes beyond what the federal elections commission requires him to do? And here was how he explained it. Then. Line by line the in for long. Are you never even that information to my. Every jeopardize. You don't know, goes to their competitors, says, let me show them how much money. You just don't do that. He will not disclose to the public his sources of income because it will be competitively disadvantageous. This was by the way exactly the line of reasoning that Chris Collins laid on me when I talked to him before one of the presidential debates when I asked him, don't you think Donald Trump should disclose and open up his taxes? No, it would be bad for Donald Trump's business. He said now failure to be open with the public. It is different from insider trading, but it is also of a piece in this one regard, it proves that the personal fortunes of the Representative are more important than the public interest. In fact, it might be disadvantageous for the business of a public official. Were that public official to inform the public sufficiently about his business, but that's what you do. Just like it might not be the best investment strategy for. Someone who runs for office or run for the presidency to put his holdings in a blind trust. Maybe that person would say, oh, I'm better actively managing the money, but it doesn't matter because we're talking about the public interest. This is what you do when you're a public official or you don't do as is the case of Collins and Donald Trump. Now, I think if Donald Trump disclosed his taxes, it would represent a lot more than his business competitors getting an advantage. I think it just might hold keys to a lot of areas that Robert Muller would be interested, but I wanna make an ancillary point about this Trump seemingly fears the release of his taxes, and that's why taxes haven't been released. Now realize that there are people within the government who know what the taxes say. There are probably I don't know tens or dozens of people who've seen these taxes who've gone through them who know their exact content and Donald Trump is constantly degrading and denigrating the role of bureaucrats. Or worse. He paints a picture of government officials who swore an oath and yet somehow are out to get him are motivated by political or personal animus against him. He lodges this charge against the FBI, but they're in the IRS. We have government officials who have been trusted with the responsibility, and they know what their responsibility is. They act ethically and they keep to their oath and they don't have to if they didn't. They probably be called heroes by more people than call Edward Snowden a hero. But still they don't break their oath. They know what the professional code is, at least someone does on the show today. I feel about some weird words in the New York Times, but I with LeBron James, the aforementioned President Trump squabbling and by squabbling what I really mean is the president of the United States is embarrassing himself and the power forward of the Los Angeles. Lakers is acting with dignity, but let's now take the time to think about to consider the place of the black athlete, the place that he has. "Nothing makes people happy like the site of ben and jerry's part of what's fun about ben and jerry's is the funny names that all the ice cream flavors have and the pint slices are available in seven icon of flavors including the tonight dough chocolate chip cookie dough cherry garcia and a mirror cone dream find out where to buy pint slices or get them delivered by going to bend jerry dot com analysis it's time for a happiness hack yes this hat comes from sarah she says my friends and i sometimes find it challenging to spend holidays together so we created our own holiday eleven eleven is angel day we vote on something we'd all like to do together and celebrate being together we write cards with wishes for the coming year and we build onto it each year that i love this idea listen because it's sort of a mash up of several ideas that we've talked about one is in one episode one fifty eight we talked about creating a standardized vacation and but with this idea you don't even necessarily have to plan a trip you could live in the same city and like make a plan to get together for lunch or copy or if you can't even get together you can still celebrate it by sending cards and messages and things like that and it's the note of wins e from episode one fortysix this is just one like you they have angel debate you could have anything you wanted to make it like a spun and crazy as you thought yes and it's also related to one of your favorite things gretchen and we talked about an episode eight which is celebrate minor holidays right so in our house we make a big deal of things like saint patrick's day valentines day because the big holiday sometimes get to be so much work that it can be a little overwhelming so it's fun to just have a playful holiday an elegant you've just like creating your own holiday whatever suits you just pick it it it's fun it kind of reminds me of recently with the royal wedding yeah i feel like a lot of women.

"Before we get started with this week show a word from our first sponsor this episode of the w scott vest is brought to you by pint slices from ben and jerry's perhaps it's a hold over from childhood but somehow i always think of ice cream as a reward for myself like when i've done something good or i have successfully got through the day or whatever it might be that i just want to kind of give myself a little pat on the back i might especially at this time of year i'm likely to go to the ice cream section of the store and get something cold and frozen and delicious and one thing that meets that exact description are the new pint slices from ben and jerry's this is a convenient handheld treat that is to say a chocolate and robed slice of delicious ben and jerry's ice cream inside a rich chocolate coating and we're talking really good rich deep dark chocolate listeners you can find out where to bipin slices or get them delivered at ben jerry dot com that's ben jerry dot com for more details on how to get pint slices the following podcast contains explicit language welcome to the double x gab fest for thursday may seventeenth with new music by the way today's episode is what to do with batman i'm hana rosen a host of npr's this bill in the new york studios we have the great june thomas senior managing producer of slate podcast network hydrogen hey hannah and noreen malone of new york magazine hi noreen high hana so we have a big big big announcement the cabal that's the three of us in the producers and everyone else have made a decision double x is going weekly listeners have been asking for years and so we are finally doing it we're going to add new voices and perspectives to the show you can tune in next week for our first new new double x and there's another thing which is that the name double x is kind of outdated somewhat for obvious reasons you mean the one that you know not all women have to x chromosome yes i feel like the name.

"Hi mike pesca i'm host of the gist podcast which is an ad sponsored medium don't believe me check this out this episode of the gist is brought to you by pint slices from ben and jerry's shoot chunks and swirls surrounded by ben and jerry's legendary ice cream all inside a rich chocolate coating if one part of that description does not delight you you're dead inside and if so perhaps you can revive with a pint slice from ben and jerry's listeners can find out where to buy or get them delivered at ben jerry dot com that's ben jerry dot com for more details on how to get pint slices let me be explicit right now in this podcast there's some explicit language forty may eleventh two thousand eighteen from slate it's the gist i mike pesca here's one thing i like one phenomenon so someone or something associated with donald trump sometimes donald trump says or does something crazy and the high minded newspapers of record have to track down experts to say that was cruzi but the can't say crazy they say things like that was somewhat unusual so you get at and t paying michael cohen six hundred thousand dollars or novartis paying them one point two million and there's no reason why you'd pay this lovey guy who shakes down the daily beast for writing stories about donald trump sex life except you know he knows donald trump so you go to an expert larry noble he used to be the general counsel of the federal elections commission this guy would know and you quote him has saying yes it's an ethical concern if you have a lawyer who appears to be selling access to occur.
