Let's start with the protests that were marches were here in Phoenix that were cancelled. What were the circumstances that we heard that you guys have gotten some credible threats? Yeah, Yeah. One credible threat. Um, last night, maybe more than that, but 11 threat that we thought was incredible. Honesty after it's a rare occurrence that it's nothing compared to the threats are people have to endure every day going about their everyday lives from police officers that threat of cages the threat of death on the threat of violence, and that's from salary that we pay for. When you look at the circumstances here in Phoenix versus other cities, and how how marches and protests have gone whether there were black lives matter or just protests. They've been very peaceful here in the valley. What do you attribute that to Well, um, we have some great organizer's that put together these protests, but you know it. It depends on what you mean by peaceful way aren't seeing sort of this, You know, right wing sort of response at most of our events. But the police are out there threatening us using weapons against us using chemical weapons against us Other Ah, mechanisms of violence. So you know, peaceful is an interesting word to describe what's been happening because it certainly aren't peaceful from the police response perspective, But have you are you saying that the police have initiated violence against you or they were they responding to something that was happening, whether it was property damage or it? Was physical violence that was initiated by someone else. The police initiate violence against us every day, Not just after protests. You know, it's it's a shocking and revolting thing to have police murder and abuse us on and you know the responses, Silence or or the description is peaceful. Every time that some of these protests we hope for police restraint and only see police escalation, honestly, last night was probably one of the most peaceful nights I've ever seen from the Phoenix Police Department. And this has been going on for months. Now you know the issue and I'm not as I want to ask me Devil's advocate here with this Chief Jerry Williams has said she has been listening to the protesters into listening to what people want. And we've seen some changes in the Phoenix Police Department. Jerry Williams grew up in this city, an African American girl to an African American woman, and she's raised two African American sons. And she runs that agency. Why would you accuse that agency of being violent against you? When the head of that agency has lived a similar life to you? Um, yeah, You know, maybe Chief Williams have lived a similar life to me. But just because you put someone in that office who maybe can relate to my experiences doesn't mean that the system Is going to allow that women woman to make changes or that the system is going to allow that woman to listen to us when when you when you hear a asking for accountability from our Phoenix police department So those requests are ignored. Um, officers keep their jobs. We asked her transparency, and those requests are only met with delay and even unbearable condescension. So just because Chief Williams may relate to a couple of things in my background or my history doesn't mean that she's making the changes that we need to be made. I mean, this is a violent institution chief Jerry Williams without the head of this institution in 2018, when we had the most Incidents of officer involved shooting in the nation, this violent institution that it is violence and malice for so long on DH. We need to shine a light on that and I agree. When there are bad cops, they should be exposed and go to prison and they should never be on the police force. But you have to admit that a lot of those incidents of police shootings are justifiable because they're responding to violence against them or other people. Are you saying that those were not justifiable shootings at all? There is no justification for police officers to murder people on the streets. That's not how our system works. The on ly reason you're saying that to me is because the public narrative That support the status quo that supports police violence has convinced you that these murders Extrajudicial murders. Are necessary. How sad. I can't take what you just said, and go to these families who lost their loved ones whose loved ones have been subjected to grotesque bindings and tell them what you just said. That's unacceptable. Listen, I I'm not saying it from any other perspective. Then there are times when police officers are interacted are approached in a violent way or defending people against violence. And that's why they use their firearms. They don't look go ahead the large if I may, I'm that's no. Absolutely no. The large majority of what police officers do in our streets. Has nothing to do with responding to violent crime. I think nationally only about 4% of a police officer's job actually respond to a violent crime. Um, you know, it's really just a false narrative that convinces people out in the streets that The violence that police keep on our bodies, some necessary public function or some necessary public good. It's grotesque. I'm saying that the shootings that are happening in the streets of Phoenix are necessary because it's a violent act that they're responding to. Not all of their reaction. Interactions are violent. None almost none of them are but when they turned violent, what is an officer supposed to do? Mike, Can I ask you this? How could you fixed your mouth to say that the shootings and murders in the streets of the city of Phoenix are necessary? I didn't say that the murders were necessary. I'm saying that not all officer involved shootings. I would say the vast majority of officer involved. Shootings are not murders at all. The vast, but the vast majority of officer involved. Shootings may not be murdered, but that does that justifies that the attempted murder on our community members. I mean, just because someone survived an officer involved shooting by here. I wasn't look I wasn't talking about his officers were trying to kill. No, I wasn't talking about them. Not dying. I'm saying even when death occurs, it's not a murder. You're a lawyer. There is a difference between self defense or defending other people in the officer's capacity as a police officer and murder because you've murdered somebody that didn't need to die or didn't have to die, and it wasn't life or death situation for the officer, so I don't believe they were murdered by definition. Mike, you're wrong. The definition of murder is murder. When you take someone's life, it's a homicide. Just because you Khun justified later doesn't mean it wasn't murdered. So if someone's in a life or death situation if your life is being threatened and you take that person's life, you consider yourself a murderer. Absolutely. I have to go to court. I get charged with murder. I get charged with homicide. I have to go to court and tell a jury of my supposed peers that I had a reason for doing that murder or I had a reason for using that violence, the police officers because of the growth of lack of accountability and aren't in our jurisdiction..

The video and my daughter, eyelid say, hi. Hi. She was one walked out the doll. The police are trying to come at her. They're kind of hurt us because she took a doll. It is it hurts to see this is what happened when someone's shoplift or whatever if you think about stilling or whatever I take you to some of the things that you saying there. I don't think the police are going after a four year old and a doll. I saw the surveillance video within the dollar store. There are items that were stolen and I can agree with Mr. aims that nothing justifies. What's in that video? But also, there's no justification for shoplifting. Tribute to being coming into the focus of the police. I can't acknowledge that the way the police behaved was wrong. I can also acknowledge that shoplifting is wrong. I think nobody's bathed in glory here. Exactly. And I think that's where you and I, I would like to argue can stake out the middle ground here a little bit, and say, we can look at this and say, if you had not engaged in shoplifting, if you were aware that your daughter had a doll in her hand that she didn't walk in the store with right? Then police wouldn't have had the reason excuse probable cause to interact with you. Okay. Full stop secondarily. The attitude and demeanor of the police, interacting with you, I still believe was completely inappropriate and completely unjustified so things can exist. Exactly. That's my point. And, and so I think there is there is two sides to this, don't get me wrong. And, and you can you can control gum. So we've just heard the side of victims, then there was a moment where you had the chief of police Jerry Williams step up to the Mike in speak. "Laser eye center. Here was one of the audience members who spoke at last night's community meeting at pilgrim rest church. She as a white woman said, when police shooting or police brutality happens. She tells her kids that, that will never happen to them fence me that we apologize, followed by this isn't a race issue. That's a lie. You're lying to the public. I love it. When people talk and absolutes, because unless you're talking about physics reality is rarely absolutely anything. A lot of people would assume as a primarily white guy, that I've never experienced racism, but I have I lived as a minority for many years, and I didn't have to go to my father's homeland of Jamaica to experience it. It happened here in the United States, albeit on what's supposed to be sovereign land the Navajos nation. There was one kid who was quite large whose favourite interaction with me in ninth grade was to come up behind me and smack me in the back of the head, I didn't fight back, but not because I thought everybody was be against me and they'd back him because he was Navajos when I was white, but because he was huge. That's why when I hear people use terms like systemic racism like that lady did. That's just to me that there's something wrong with the entire system as opposed to a few bad apples. Here's chief Jerry Williams last night. The levering ally. Line that made her no friends in the room. Real change doesn't start with the police department. Real change.

"So that is another, I guess issue or part of this story. Some officers have body cameras, but now, Phoenix is the largest city in the nation without them that will be rectified, very soon. Police chief Jerry Williams with Jim Sharpe yesterday in Arizona's morning news. We are implementing body worn cameras. And we're implementing body, one cameras faster than than we had been. So we now have Mary about precinct Mountain View precinct where this incident happened today. We're rolling out in south mountain precinct so by August all of our patrol officer shop I didn't want. Okay. So if these cops had a body worn cameras would anything have been different now. See I don't think so even though because the cops are watched at all points in all time. There's a dashboard, Cam people have a cell phone and they know that they're most likely being videotaped by someone whether it be an innocent bystander near the situation or someone directly in the car. We don't need this, this particular case doesn't need some. Kind of viable or credible evidence. We have it. We already have that. So it's a body camera gonna make a difference. Oh, we get to see another angle from the cops perspective or whatever we know what happened. We understand what happened. So I don't know why there is this rush to get everybody body panels. They have to cover their rear end. You know all the body cameras. So what if they would, you know if if that person wasn't taking a cell phone video, we'd never would have really known about this. But here's the thing, they're always taking cell phone video someone is always taking one police are being watched twenty four seventy without body cams. Number three. "News ninety two three SM police union announced a no confidence vote against Mesa. Police chief Ramon, Batista. There were five hundred Mesa. Police department employees took a survey and the numbers are awful for the chief. I mean, it's about if you look at it's about seventy five percent, disapproval. Yes. The police chief is doing a poor job. Brandon Tatum is joining us, a former police officer in Tucson and director of urban engagement for turning point USA over and we were talking earlier in the in the in the previous segment that you know, there's this disconnect with this. This wide chasm between what cops are thinking or feeling about how their job is perceived and what the just what the allegations are of the police chief. What is Ramon Batista the police chief what does he need to do? In order to earn the cops. Trust back instead of getting a seventy four seventy five percent, disapproval rating is there anything a police chief Ken do to get to get the guys and the women on the force back on their side his side. Unfortunately, I think it's too late for two Teesta once not done anything wrong. I don't I don't necessarily think that he's intentionally putting his offices in his position. I think that he's he's following the track that's been laid for him by the city council and by the public, and that's what police chiefs become the have become these days are public representations and not a representation of the police department. And I'll say this is probably too late for Ramon, Batista. When you have seventy percent that don't like it's over. But when you police chief, and you come into a circumstance like this from the jump from the get-go, you have to make up in your mind. Do I wanna take this position on not? If I take this position I need to be strong in my stance to support the officers on a police department. I believe that the officers on the police department should be. Number one priority. And when you when you have good training when you support the police officers when you pay them, well when you fight for them, they were produce the type of officers that the city wants to see the problem. That's happening is that people jump into far on the city in a civilians who honestly don't know what's going on a police department. They have no idea what it takes to serve and protect. They have no idea what USA force policies are. They have never had a hostile situation in life more than likely, and they're allowing those people to dictate what the police chief does. But if you want to be a successful police chief, in my opinion, this is not a nocco, Batista. You have to come out with a strong stance and your support for the officers on the ground. I will tell police chiefs get in a patrol car, which are officers where the body worn camera and go through what they go through. So you can make a bit of perception or make a better announcement when things do happen publicly Brennan Tatum showing us so. What I'm hearing from you is this. If you're going to be a police chief, you've got to decide whether you want to be a cop's cop, or or almost a politician esque type of chief someone who's going to try and smooth out the wrinkles someone who's going to try and maybe get in front of a problem, or if there's a shooting you gotta get in front of it. But when I hear you say that kind of stuff, I don't know what we have here in Phoenix. I don't know. I guess I'm confused is Jerry Williams a cop's cop or she a politician as or or Mesa PD is Ramon Batista, kind of this politician ask kind of police chief or cops cop. What's the? I mean is that is that changed in in recent in recent time, do we used to have cops cops as as chiefs and now while the act like politicians. Yeah. When talk to someone offices used to train with twenty thirty years on the department. They said times we're completely different when they were patrolling. Had the support of command staff they have to support of the city now, it has become a s j w social Justice warrior nightmare. I mean, literally any kind of political rhetoric that comes from the news media is is emphasizing forced on police officer. How about activists are they hurting our too? I mean hurt especially because the fear is that if a police chief makes a statement about shooting and say, you know, what to say of Jerry decided to to tell the truth Jerry away. Jerry williams. The chief of Phoenix police department. She's a cop's cop from what I hear. If she was the tell the truth about why they're so many shootings in a community. I mean, there will be people protest in front door her house because usually comes back to personal responsibility. That you always say why were you out at that night? Why did you have a gun? Why were you? Yeah. Right. Right. And people don't wanna hear understands that her officers will train. She know what it's like to to do the right thing. And she knows that people are doing the right thing majority of police department. She noted people are acting a aplomb food nowadays in a street. They have their own drugs. They're tech and police officers, obviously because of belief political rhetoric against police. She knows that she can't say that the city council's going to force her to spend a hundred and fifty thousand dollars to do an investigation to politically, correct. She came out and set it on the news. And she because she already knows the results of that. She's been a cop for a long enough time. She's not an idiot. And I think that this was happening all around the country. This is not a phenomenon in Arizona. I go around, and I've talked to police police officers when I do speeches everywhere, I go, and they say the same thing that the command staff has become so politicized that the mere USA force that that they teach you to implement will be used against you. If it's not politically expedient. For the environment in which the city council. One wanted to be so is potato gonna lose his job. Does he survive a no-confidence vote? This is I think he's gonna lose his job. And just real quick. This is why when the police department have shootings in controversial useless uses a force as much as the Mesa. Police department has had he has lost the confidence that city. Unfortunately, even though he's not necessarily cities the city's the one at hired him. If you non-citizens of the city, I see and when the police department that were under you have lost confidence in you. It is easy to city council down make a decision to say the city. Don't like the fact that there's so many controversial incidents happen on your watch. And in the police officers saying that you're not good on your watch. It's easy for them to to utilize that process as a scapegoat. And now try to replace their reputation behind somebody different when it's been there the entire time. The reason why some of these bad policies are these anti cop policies have been implemented on this department. All right. So you go, and you talk to people all the time, you do speeches. You got one. Coming up Saturday may eighteenth in Scottsdale. And what are you gonna talk about? We'll talk about these very issues. I want to dig deep into issues in Arizona. I mean, we're going to talk a little bit about politics obvious, and I'm a conservative, but we're going to have a deep discussion about a lot of issues that are facing Arizona's and also across the country when it comes to the freedom of expression of freedom of speech the greatness of this country. And also, I'm going to do something unique in my speech. I'ma have it opened for question and answer. I won't anybody who's interested with you agree with me and not you come to the event, and we can have a dialogue about about issues that you may not agree with. So this is an event I feel like is is unique about law enforcement, though, is not just about is not just about is more than that. Because I think that obviously there's more to life than just law enforcement politics, but we're gonna get into all of these things and to be open and honest, it's coming from a conservative perspective where can people get info? So people could go to. I.

Received a call possibly a man with a gun literally across the street where they were and were responding on foot to this with apparently again, I'm trying to put things together. Here officer was struck by woman who stayed on the scene and is cooperating because I mean, there were a lot of questions yesterday. I mean, there's still a lot of questions as to the driver in.
