"And he's he's been making some waves and raiders camp so so probably not he's not being drafted right now but name to keep in mind. If you're desperate tight end yeah. I do kinda like taking a late round fired or mr relevant if you if you have have a bench spot open. You don't like anyone else there. I like him there and different division. I turned in there from the jets as well. You know that he's suspended engaging those late guys looking for upside. <hes> there's lakes and i do like waller there. If you're going to punt the tight end position <hes> waller herndon combo pretty good pretty good los angeles charges charges twelve and four last year fantastic record that record usually wins. You didn't miss last year second in the division. They blame in what stadium i don't know where they have the coliseum. They play a dignity health sports good luck. They played in the coliseum now. They're not playing because they lost <hes> jason barrett and tyrel tyrel williams that we just mentioned <hes> they added did <hes> just thomas davis but it was more about the people that are going to be returning from injury like the main one hundred henry someone else i was going to mention one hunter henry for sure and then they took jerry tillery who could play right away on that defensive line in the first round. Do you like the chargers. Do you see them being similar to what they were laster. Yeah i can see them being gone a little <hes> a little bit down. I mean twelve twelve wins last year. That's a lot i- vegas has at nine in the half..

"And that probably means more pressure on japan and certainly more pressure on in book to generate bigger plays score more points while the defense is figuring it out but a little bit of a role reversal now as you look at twenty nineteen what what they need to do on offense is they need to generate more those big plays. I don't know how they do it but the vertical passing game last year was an issue for ian book. Look some of those passes he threw deep when he had guys open where not great dan not great at all macaroni bob not great bob. Gotta get better accuracy see on that deep ball. They need to convert just a handful more of them and it makes them better as an offense. That's the first thing secondly. I don't know what the run game looks like this year. I i have no idea why well they lose dexter williams. He's gone and now they're in a position where they've got jaffar armstrong. Who's a converted white out was nicht up last year. He's more of a jack-of-all-trades kinda guy and then got tony jones junior. Who's a senior physical more north south. I don't know if either of those guys is is really the answer at running back but they need to get something that is a little bit more consistent out of that ground attack and then on the defensive offensive side. They need to get better at stopping the run game. There's some questions this year about defensive tackle. They lose jerry tillery wata turnover over at linebacker as well drew tranquil. He's gone my guy but the secondary looks pretty good at corner. They're loaded back there at safety with low. Oh he gilman and jalen elliott. Maybe kyle hamilton fits in. Who's the new guy you like you. Hi hammocks all hot and bothered kyle hamilton. He had three picks off phil djurkovic on the first day of fall camp <hes> which probably says more about filled your cova than kyle.

"I think we were all sleeping, everybody really except for Robert Mays were sleeping on the eagles, who made huge investments in both our lines and obviously showed that, that season is there a team who've done such a good job, building the lines of both offense of defensive that maybe they're going to be a lot better than we think in twenty nineteen so Qatar offense and defensive. Yeah, I mean it it's tough to take herring. I mean defensive line wise. I think the Browns really jumped out and underrated all entered of line. I mean. I think that the Broncos have a good chance of making a significant Joe because the hired Mike month check and also bring Vic Fangio in on as the head coach of defense at coach with good personnel on the defensive line. I think both their unit are gonna she of pretty significant jump this year. And with the Broncos signing Jalaun, James. Right. Tackle having Ronald Leary back healthy and then also drafting don't rise to play the other guard spot. It's really contingent on their bowls can get to solve them level or not. And if and I mean, I think he is he's ever gonna do it. It's going to be under my mom check. And I would probably think he isn't good of a chances. Anybody to make him a player or at least a solid putter? So I think there's pretty good chance that you're gonna see the Broncos have offense and defensive line that might surprise some people next season. I think that on defense, one of the things that one of the teams that I'm looking at is the chargers just because they have those guys they bring in Jerry Tillery, who just is such a penetrator disruptor in the interior. And I wanted to ask you similar to the idea of technique technical ability and just being a technician on offense. What do you think are the underrated traits of being defensive player, if you had somebody that was kind of incomplete on the defensive front, but really fit what you wanted to be a team. What trait would you say that is, and you rephrase that a little bit of? So if you're looking for like Jerry Tillery I think somebody that people were a little bit down on, but he has one elite thing he gets he penetrates Russia's the Palestinian into your very well. So if you had to pick that thing for you, if you're looking for a player that maybe a little bit undervalued because he's not a complete player but has one significantly Lee trait. What would it be? Well, yeah. I mean you're talking about a guy in I always look at valuate offense and becomes more especially defensive line through to have Trump card. They had some. To where they can rely on it. Yeah. Has been guys who can have sort of like a go to move a signature move. I think that that's probably the most important thing especially in today's NFL to how to defensive linemen that has a signature move. And if they have that chances are that they've perfected one that they at least have secondary. One more time for not. But really, if you had that signature movies, and go to I think that that's invaluable and there's several that come to mind, especially lately has been studying as I've been going over a defense blind play from last season..

"This is the lightly round podcast. I am at gear on Twitter. Jamie is at lightning underscore around. A we are viewing the chargers two thousand nineteen draft picks, and we have a lot to get to. But first, we got three donations. First nations from Thomas bliss ski who says for much-needed beard, either down our sorrows or celebrated great draft either way looking forward to the next show. Thanks thomas. Thank you Thomas next. One's from Christopher do he sympton donations. Pretty sure this is going to be Tillery number keep up the pod. And you were right. Christopher that was exactly the number Jerry Tillery. So thank you Christopher and last, but not least Josh Albertson who's been regular donate a regular contributor to the show. So thank you. Josh for the generous donation we appreciate it Thomas, Chris and Josh thanks for donating this week. And we're going to go over all seven draft picks. This might be a little bit unique because I was talking. Jimmy a little bit earlier. But I developed a relationship over the weekend. And I have a little insight on how these picks went. So and a little context. So we'll go ahead and go over it. And I'll tell you what they were thinking picks coming up. So let's go ahead and start in the chargers went with in round one Jerry Tillery the defensive tackle at Notre Dame. Yeah. Knows interesting looking at the charges draft as a whole, and particularly I two picks really felt like they were responding to what they were seeing on charges Twitter during the draft the draft season because all these are most of these guys. Anyway, at least I think three or four of them were guys that charters Twitter was very high on one of the draft. So with Tillery they get somebody who played up and down the defensive line of Notre Dame. You know, we talked about him was at the last show the show before the office of tackles, we skipped on Tillery. But we ended up talking to him in the office of tackle podcast, right? We both had second round grades on him. But were coming. Out of the chargers camp was that. They he was there last player on their board with the first round grade. So they get a guy who can play three technique. He's got power. He's got the lettuce ZIM. There are certainly big time flashes in his game. It's not all the way put together yet. It's not he's not what I would call finished product. But he's a good player who will definitely help out at a position of need right away. At the very least probably expect him to step in as a situational rusher on the interior in in obvious passing downs. If not you know surpass Justin Jones for the starting three tech job at camp. He's definitely their most talented interior defender right out of the gate. Definitely has the most upside has a lot of really impressive physical traits and has flashed the ability to get after the quarterback so all things at this team needed badly. And if he wasn't fact the last first round player on their board than it's hard to argue with. the pick. Yeah. Chargers. Finally, get their pass rushing interior defensive linemen. This is definitely going to be a theme. But Jerry Tillery a high athlete had the highest spark score among all interior linemen. Obviously generates a lot of power with those long arms wins with speed on the inside love, the Ben Affleck's ability at that spot as a lot of experience at a high success rate with a lot of stunts twists, which I love..

"Go up and hit you safety out of Maryland. People say, that's Bob Sanders. Reincarnated the star for the Super Bowl winning colts back with Peyton Manning. And Tony Dungy twenty two Philadelphia traded up with the Baltimore Ravens. They have kind of thing because they traded up last year to thirty two or traded back last year with Baltimore because Baltimore Lamar Jackson. So another trade Baltimore Philadelphia for Andre Dillard, the tackle. From Washington state. Obviously the Jason peers replacement there for the Philadelphia Eagles Twenty-three was Houston, Texas. They took Tyronn Howard the tackle out of Alabama state. Josh Jacobs was taken by the Baltimore. Good Lord by the Oakland, Raiders at twenty four and he is the running back out of Alabama Markey's Hollywood Brown wide receiver have Oklahoma taken by the ravens at twenty five. And then the Redskins again, concluding they're good first round took Montanez sweat the edge rusher from Mississippi State, so sweat was there. People didn't I heard there was concern about character? And then concern about of course, his medical condition, which was refuted earlier tonight. So I'm curious what the whole deal was in terms of why he felt it was the character. Or if it was the heart. I would argue the medical indefinite and fall, but he is a Redskin with a twenty six overall pick Jonathan Abram the state data Mississippi State was thinking by the raiders at twenty seven twenty eight was Los Angeles. Charter that did they took Jerry Tillery and Notre Dame Seattle traded back in November. This was the this was the Frank Clark trade. So they had this one twenty nine took L J Collier, the Texas TCU defensive end. And then the giants traded back into the first round and took the Andre Baker out of Georgia at thirty the falcons traded back in with the LA Rams gave up their second and third round draft picks to take Caleb mcgarry the tackle out of Washington at thirty one and the patriots took Nikial.

"More of a concern than the offense. I understand there were problems with the offense last year. We'll fuller only played seven games KiKi. Not played sixty onta- form wasn't in their sublime was bad. It was the Shawn Watson. It's first time as a full time starter. But with that said it was still the fifteenth best offense in football. I think it's realistic to expect. I know we joke about this. But I think the offense can be better than it was last season. John, I think that's at least safe to say given all that. I'll just say, you know, peaked or not peaked. The offense is not peak the defenses peaked. I'm scared of this defense. I think the defense. Needs to be improved significantly through the draft. It scares the heck out of me when you've got two guys accounting for twenty five of forty three sacks. She got Cornerbacks one of which just turned thirty five years old. Another one is on a one year proven deal. Another one couldn't even get on the field last year instead of cherise right in Aaron cove, and there's just a lot of concern on that defense. Which is why when the Texans come up at twenty three I would not mind them trading back, and then selecting stockpiling picks Jerry Tillery defensive lineman six foot seven out of Notre Dame. And this is the scenario throw out there for you, John. Let's say the New York Giants don't take Dwayne Haskins number six overall. And with all the draft picks. They had they decide they wanna trade up and get their quarterback. Whether it's Daniel Jones out of do will Greer out a West Virginia. Why not trade that first round pick number twenty three overall for the giants? Second round pick thirty seven and a third round pick ninety fifth that would give Brian gained five picks in the top eighty six three picks. In the second round that he loves him. That's heaven. And there is a very very strong chance that Jerry Tillery. Your guy will be there when you select in the second round, and if not you can trade up again because you got more second rounders Jerry Tillery on this defensive line alongside DJ reader alongside JJ watt with JD clowney rushing on the outside, and maybe some Whitney mercilus. Maybe some Duke edge of four that makes me feel very good about this defense. Jerry Tillery out of Notre Dame has become my guy. I look it's hard for him. Not to be anybody's guy watched a lot of yet. We did an NBC TV contract. They got up there. Yeah. They. He's big time. I I still think it's going to be with what McLean says lineman offense, lineman cornerback or trade back. But I mean, that's that's that's on the table for sure because they need big time improvement on the defensive side. We know what they can do. We know what they have. But they need improvement on the defensive side. Big news out of the NFL. We have our first draft age trade has nothing to do with collar Murray in the Zona cardinals. Instead the Kansas City Chiefs improved their defense. They lost just in Houston in deforested in the offseason they acquired defensive in Frank Clark of the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a first rounder this year a second round next year, and they swapped third. So they move up a little bit to improve their draft stock in the third round. Why is this significant cause Frank Clark an edge rusher light JD clowney franchise, tag, light JD, cloudy? He gets traded. And we have an idea of what the compensation is like for a player in in clowns class also twenty five years. Old just like cloudy. So first rounder second rounder. That's the market value right now for guys like cloudy. We've seen it right now. John lopez. I'm offering you right now, I'm giving you Brian gains job. I'm giving you a first rounder. I'm giving you a second rounder. Are you moving cloudy for that? All right. A couple of things, and I just tweeted this, and I think it's really important from Texans. Perspect- at Lopez on sports at Lopez on sports on Twitter. Now that Frank Clark and the details are already out there. The he's gonna get with Seattle. Now that he's going to be going with the chiefs. It's going to be very similar to the deal that DeMarcus Lawrence signed five years one hundred and five million dollars, sixty five million dollars guaranteed..

"Scrimmage, get off press coverage. Maybe you can teach him how to be a slot receiver the NFL, and he's got the physical traits succeed. But when you consider the rest of the draft, what have you accomplished at this point in time? Like, you just have not made this team better at any particular way. And I did it. You don't want to reach for quantity. Time. But how about any position of need up until this point? This is the first draft in player into the doesn't fit the mold of the chiefs defense. That's the only player that's really address in any of the biggest needs right now. There's no way that every single safety defensive Ed interior defensive line than and so on have been a complete reach like this claim about the cornerback. So I just I don't get this draft. It doesn't seem like there's much of a picture in mind. There's no real method or way to make the team better. At the end of the strap is just adding a bunch of random talent to team already has talent at these positions. So I wanna oh sorry, go Craig. Yeah. Go ahead. No. You just he he is fast. He can't fly, and he would add an element of this defense that would be a positive thing. But Andy the body catcher is Bella is a guy that when we saw the senior bowl. He just he wasn't like Florida's impressive. And if you're trying. To add a wide receiver early. You're trying to add a guy that can transition to the boundary and be able to replace a tyreek hill or a Sammy Watkins if you don't wanna continue to pay them like a top receiver. India's ability just going to be a slot guy. He doesn't make a ton of sense. And I get maybe these score one hundred teams throughout this. But the problem is you're not really getting significantly better at any of the three positions that you're adding on offense right now. I just don't think that maybe you now score sixty. It's a score sixty draft not as or one hundred draft. And yeah, take a corner twenty nine if there's a corner at twenty nine in this. I have a lot different view. And kinda actually wanna just let's remark this because every time we've mocked the mock, we've remarked, I'm yeah. I there's. I have a lot of odd is going to go to this. Let's just do this. So the available players will just we'll just take three highly rated players Jerry Tillery was available at twenty.

Saw a redshirt freshman sophomore really stepping in and his first few plays were big deep throws confident guy. Hopefully in his mind. He's this is dream because call it at Yankee Stadium against Notre Dame and leads the comeback from victory. Nope. Not today. That he fired up football turnovers and passing game have been the story so far Ian both well over two hundred yards passing. Near seventy percent most of this game. But the Irish defense they picked off three passes from Syracuse quarterbacks while yearbook book has been intercepted only once keep in mind. Syracuse was plus thirteen and a turnover game coming into this one second down five now fifty nine seconds until halftime devito drops straight back now sprints up in his sacks. By drew tranquil at the forty six yard line clock ticking forty nine forty eight. There was a loss of four Syracuse. Thirty seconds. Also play right there. Call by Clark Lee, defensive coordinator, Notre Dame defensive end, Julius war. Actually, dropping coverage and cover the underneath of a route to the right that the veto the quarterback for the Orangemen wanted as he looked left. He found drew tranquil for the sack both teams have gone to their respective sidelines here as you heard Syracuse just used their last time out of this half. They'll be facing third down at nine for their forty six yard line. They come out forty nine seconds left until halftime with Notre Dame leading Syracuse twenty to nothing looking down at some of the stats before we begin play. Again, the Irish already over three hundred yards of total offense. They have three hundred six Syracuse just with one thirty. Notre dame. Also with a lot of third-down success devoted forty percents. We supposed to be a strength of that. Syracuse defense devito now has the ball. Shotgun drops. He's in trouble. Plus now to just throws it away Julian oak Worrell was there to apply the pressure. Hayes was also there four nine coming up now after incompletion Syracuse sense it's team onto the field. Julie. Jerry Tillery us also entering his way through to Orangemen linemen to get to the quarterback three Irish defenders on the quarterback as he threw the football that has in effect long-term on this game. Good to see college Korean back on the field. Couple of days ago. He stayed down and walked off the field. He's back playing through tranquil same situation who came out earlier drew has been playing since then as well so forth down to nine the punt is away. Chris fake gonna let that one drop. It bounces out of bounds. And we'll see where they Mark the fall. And just inside the twenty yard line will be on their own eighteen yard line. That's for Notre Dame will take over thirty five seconds left. And I would imagine ride just a run player aid even taken me as they're leading twenty nothing. I usually say that except one time in Detroit we had about thirty six seconds left on the clock. Peyton manning. Started calling plays. We went down and scored a touchdown. I'm not saying he books pay manning. But I'm saying I've seen I've seen more. Or happened with less time book right now eighteen out of twenty nine. That's a lot of attempts were just one half eighteen to twenty nine for two fifty three. He takes the snap. Takes me in thirty seconds left now and counting. There's no problem with the play clock. So. Notre Dame, jogging ensue the Yankees dugout down the first base sideline. Syracuse. Jong into the dugout down to third base side either visitors so hot here Yankee Stadium. As the final seconds tick away here. The first half the first half control by Notre Dame. They picked off Syracuse quarterbacks three times. Jerry Tillery there as well loss of three. Big defensive stop right there. Gary Tillery as you mentioned getting in on that action. Now, it's thirty in some distance here. France-soir really hasn't been able to pass for a first down yet, Kurt Heinisch. And Ryan I'm curious as a former player what a night for Notre Dame. This was really just domination as you and Paul and Jack of talked about since this one has gone final. How proud of this team as a former player are you right now. What's great for all Irish fans? I mean, one of the things that you wanna that did that you low 'bout Notre Dame is the tradition and one of those traditions of the expectations of excellence, not just the athletes, but everybody who comes here goes here in loves Notre Dame. Not so much a left tackle, but Jonah Williams is close to perfect at the position. So yeah, absolutely love his play. Like I said, I have the Pac twelve trae Adams is the guy out there tweeted at Tuesday morning when you look at him. I see a lot of Taylor Lewan. He's big physical in the run. Game. He's nasty at the point of attack. And then on the other side, they're Washington. They have Caleb mcgirt mcgarry a right tackle, who is a pro prospect is well, Stanford's got a couple of guys as always Nate her being a brand, Daniel Cooney down San Diego, and then Stanford also Walker little. So Stanford s. three guys that we watch and maybe the second or third best old-line unit behind, obviously, Wisconsin and then Georgia Stanford, they're always up there, but they're up there again this year. And then d. line. I almost had nothing. I threw Jerry Tillery from Notre Dame because I had no one. Then we should let you talk about Ed Oliver. Oh, jeez. Yeah. Let me please. He's he's done man. He's there's nothing more to say right. It's over. He's that good. He's going to be one of the top three picks top three pigs because it doesn't matter what scheme you run. He fits it right. He's like Aaron, Donald, it doesn't matter. He can play the three tacky can play outside at five. He could play nose tackle if you wanted to. And we've even seen him used as a standup rusher this off season Unity's working so anywhere. He's Aaron, Donald buddy, six, three. So I go only knock on air. Donald was is little short. Not at all is legit. I mean he's like Dominic ensue size with Aaron, Donald quickness, and it's just it's not fair if I could build the perfect interior pass rusher, it's him and you could get into a great bar fight with NFL coaches and GM's about, would you rather have interior pressure or outside pressure? Because Nick bozo is going to be the outside pressure guy. I think a lot of times I'd rather have interior lighting that's harder to get away from at all to find to it. Yeah, interior guys, like it's rare. Yeah. Like run sap. You see what he was able to do, and I hate him, but man that Duke could just disrupt offenses right there from the middle and he could get sax, it's just it's hard to find those guys. It's not that you can't do it. It's just hard to find him. Yeah, I also think, yeah, I think Aaron, Donald is the most disruptive defensive player in football. I'm with you. Absolutely. Other guys I had Greg gains at Washington is someone I'm going to be very interested to watch this year. Christian rector at USC briefly mentioned Jerry Tillery at Notre Dame. Another guy who was a big recruit, really excited if he can turn it on. Then a small school guy Kalem Saunders from western Illinois of only seen about a game and a half of his so far, but really intrigued by his ability as a penetrator. There's just something about great gains that looks like he wears overalls on and just like he liked takes farming up as a hobby. I think he's got that aesthetic, but I do like him as a run stopper. So obviously I kind of spoiled here. I still can't believe you guys gave me the SEC and ACC how that happened. We wanna do all the work. Yeah, I mean, but there's no work to be done. I watched it yesterday because like I said, I've only been back a couple of days and yesterday's refresher. I watched three Clemson games of coaches film, and it's a joke. It's an absolute joke. I mean, we were talking earlier how Dexter Lawrence does have some proving left to do to..
