"Want to mention this. Is the era. Where as we said earlier. Jim crockett's expanding so we're running to cruise. So like when you're in trenton. new jersey. There's a whole other group of guys working in marion. Ohio at the county fairgrounds coliseum. Guys like dusty rhodes where there dick slater and here when you're in pittsburgh working really long match. The other crew is in columbia south carolina. The mate of over there is magnum. Ta and buddy landale the main event on your show here in pittsburgh is ron garvin and tully blanchard at the time there the national heavyweight champion and the television champion. Did you ever preference which card you'd rather be on. I mean conventional wisdom would say well the one that pays the most duh but in terms of working in front of columbia south carolina fans working in front of pittsburgh fans have a preference fans have nothing to do with it but that ninety miles from charlotte bego had everything to do with your shopping. Ucar our twenty minutes. You were sitton in the doorway in columbia. That's the kind of stuff where you're in this for the long haul and you've been to some places already that had horrible. You know travel schedules. Which bid south and then you had pensacola. Which was a piece of cake. You knew the difference where you saw your booking. Even if pittsburgh did you know really good business for that time still you had to get onto planes. You had to go through to rent a car lines. You had to find building all that stuff probably had the first flight out the next morning there was just a lot more involved and i'm not complaining. That's what i signed up for. You know it wasn't a matter if our had three connections to even get you there on a plane it would've been outstanding because i'm living the dream and it's all kicking the in about that time figured out you know. Hey we're we're going all these major cities and you're the good position certainly don't bitch about the travel and it went. There's a big difference when you're twenty six and when you're forty six talk to me a little bit about you know your attitude towards wrestling in how maybe it changed because we've talked a little bit about big guys or time talents. Who probably could have performed on a bigger stage. A guy like bullet. Bob comes to mind. I mean he could have been a much bigger national star but he wanted to be close to home. And you're all pow mr stubb's he sort of felt the same way based on your testimony but you eventually have to make a decision. Do you know what i mean. Do you want to be a local guy. Do okay or do you really want to swing for the fences and try to see how far you can take this thing is that really. What motivates you to make that trip to pittsburgh scooting over to columbia if you didn't want to be in the main event and the biggest company in the world or the second biggest company in the world or as you're making your way to the biggest company in the world whichever one you happen to be working for if you don't want to be on last you don't wanna be figured in the event and if you don't want to have a bearing on the success of the company and you probably ought to find something else to do now keep in mind bob. Armstrong and the fuller's jimmy golden jerry. Stubbs all those guys had decided in their mind. You know i ach can make plus they had you know. Here's the key thing. Kyra had points set for jerry. When you got points and the company you know. Let me see now. What i want to go to charlotte which is rebuilding. Maybe may Sixty seventy grand or what. I won't stay right here. In pensacola and make seventy grand travel a miles a week and a lot of them because they were you know they all bought homes. They all put their kids in school. All the armstrong's went through gulf breeze. You know school system. Ns just a a heavenly life. But if you're a young single guy like i was at the time Which has nothing to do with anything. Other than the fact that i don't have kids at home and a wife yet and all those responsibilities all i had to do was learned the business i can just concentrate on the business and in those days it was very important because you are working guys. You've never worked with you. Go into towns you've never been to and people different towns perceived you different ways and everything was a challenge but every day was fresh and brand new to. That's why i looked at it and the travel didn't bother me. it was just. I knew the difference. Hi now everyone.

"The story played out Just being partners with lowly was one thing now becoming champions tag champions with only was even bigger having happened in charlotte just threw fuel on the fire it was. It was one of those things that you knew once it came together and it went down and you know the fans were not happy about it. That's for sure we were not a baby faces. We were respected not liked Very few people liked us. You know there was a few hard ashes in the crowd. That knew what it meant for the andersons to be champions again and how hard it was going to be to change the complexion of that by any team out there. I think they just felt it. They knew it was something they could. You know sink their teeth into so it was at the ending of the angle. That was actually the beginning. It's pretty important moment. You know you've talked about the first time that you one attack strap and we you know it was an old territory belt back in the day but this is another. This is another thing i mean. This is the end of a national tag bill and your partner is wrestling royalty. All the anderson is this something that adds a fan. You're sorta like wow. I can't believe this is real. I mean well tell me about your celebration or just how you internalize such a big moment if it doesn't feel real a you don't conduct yourself bell to bell and coming through the curtain from the time you go back to the curtain if you've done don't feel it like a real thing because it is a real thing you know Yeah good. I slam a guy harder if i wanted to sure cut off portugal on the fan. Harder absolutely You know the part of our business is you know you're not trying to cripple guy every time you go to the rink you're just not but you know it's very physical business. You know guys get hurt all the time you don't hear about it you know. It's not announced most towns. They just disappear for a while. And you know you start to wonder okay. we'll show. I haven't seen that guy the three or four weeks when they're what happened and you would get back to work as quickly as you can. Because she didn't wanna lose your spot but when something like becoming a one. Half of the national tag champions lowly anderson occurs in your life. It's something special and you know that if you handle that position right and you hope that you do all the right things and it gets over properly. Then you know people will be talking to you talking about you years down the road. I didn't know it was possible to be thirty. Plus years down the road they would still be talking about. But i knew it was a big deal so it was like the beginning of you know even though i have held the tag titles. Like you're talking about in pensacola with jerry stubbs. This was kinda beginning of becoming a national on a worldwide commodity star. If you wanna call it there that But you went to a different level because we had a television show that went national as a platform. The name anderson was its own platform. And the fact that i was a new kid on the block the fresh in.

"The to max is i did set long are to to. We're going to open up with your today. We're going gonna take the east who is. They're they're more heavy hitters will probably spend more time on them. My first notch comes from mid south resting which was one of the many territories. The paul orndorff left a marketing tread the eighties. He were all the major territories from florida to To admit atlantic to georgette to mid Force wwf and inmates at wrestling. He was a part of some great stories angles on the part of their great tv. They had in the early eighties and i found match. Wage was from one of those tv episodes emanating. Of course from the irish mcneil's boys club us all about early eighties. Mid side did on paul orndorff took on an animal of mr olympia and lee. First question for you or you familiar with mr olympia or who he is. I am not familiar with when you say. His name can be tweaked. My head boy am. I actually haven't dog as deep intimate as probably showed. But now tell about mr olympia please. Mr libya Was he had a good run More known as am continent wrestling guy where he wrestled loves career as jerry stoves and he was basically the guy who mentored arn anderson when he got into wrestling and are now under some. What he became was essentially jerry. Stubbs jerry stubbs. I guess an f. I haven't seen a ton of him but every time i've been so impressed and he had a reputation amongst rosters people in the businesses. Just a guy that could have should have been so much bigger. He was an incredible wrestler. Just massively respected. I might've been injuries. The ramey stopped him getting this far ahead in his career as he would have was kinda like arn was he was going to be able to go any further and he created this mo the image of himself on our gone to kind of be the rest of that everyone talks jerry. Steps could be so it was kinda like kinda poetic Has jerry still can really doesn't do a huge amount after save it. I know eighty three eighty four to my knowledge. Kobe ridi wrong on but His definitely early eighties will where he where he keeps the law his best work in he had a very good run here in mid south on. He had a hell of a match on this episode of tv with paul orndorff. It was an eight minute match it. Saying with bill. Watts on commentary Along with boy pearson his flamboyant soups. But you can pretty much say his soda. Commentary lee because bill watts Being the cowboy. He dominated the broadcast. The bill watts style of cowboy was a lot more in your face. Dominant alpha male than the Hammond hey dj version of a cowboy easy nowadays in touch feelings etcetera etcetera. Yeah now the bill. Watts was he dominated this broadcast. He felt the need to talk about v high-level former college athletes that he was playing racket ball last saturday and the different things about that. He was traveling it at the same time. He really is a hell of a job getting across the story of the match. I'm getting across where both guys are asked. And what they're trying to do in this match. It was a really good presentation of tv wrestling Ups from start to finish on a getting somebody. The little things i loved. Badness in a minute just the as view thinkers just to thoughts on what you were saying about. Am bill what anytime i have watched. The it's out and watts has been accommodate. I do find that he does going to take over the weekend. You do only get like little. Bits of whoever may be beside him. But what's again like you say he was talking about this high level college athlete that he was playing racquetball with what had been talking about..

"Together and Jerry jerry was tremendously hard worker during took his body and then in this in a one year period of time absolutely he changed it so much. So that That bob armstrong went to him and talk to him and he said jury it goes to look like he's trying to figure the name. I heard the conversation says you. You look like you look like you look like one of those guys in the though olympia contests and And right there jury goes. Wow because he thinks so. And bob says yeah. Because you've done your just look at you man you you've done you this change everything about your body and And these jerry says i. I've been thinking about wearing a mask wearing a mask. The bob says mr limp. That's what you need to be mr olympia and jerry. Stubbs became mr olympia. Probably within the next two weeks after that and worked at big program they worked together. Those two guys aren't in jerry for a long time and then and then split up and then had the big war between them and what very matches those work. Jerry's great guy we went on to He came to us as a policeman and once he retired he went back and became a policeman again. And he's still working And just outside of atlanta and the police force Does some little bit of work for them. Obviously he's not a cop in everyday duty anymore but and a great individuals. Great guy Well a role model for young. Aren't you know. I mean i could kinda see that when when we put them together. I said you know this is going to be really really good for our. You know jerry juries. Just just perfect for him to end him to copy what he sees in the ring and everywhere else would. Jerry aren't didn't a whole love that he you know on our that just He he had his. He had his act together And it wasn't just as stuff in the ring. He had his life and in hand he knew where he wanted to go. And you know he. He didn't need much of a role model. he he became the robot. I'm We've had a lot of discussion about your territory and we just recently touched on win. Aren't finished up. And when all the chips were down and it was time for orn to Move on to mid atlantic championship wrestling. he's going to take on robert fuller in a loser leaves town match. I bet you know a thing or two about him. What can you tell us about that. Loser leaves town match and the way aren gave notice and our fortunately His run with you guys is gonna wind down. He's looking to try the carolina territory next. Well you know robbers left in a way. Because he got the work. We wanted to great workers of all time mad and that loser leave town match. And and i'm sure rob v the same way you know. I never discussed that with him but That's the way we'd happened to be booked that way and Aren't aren't they aren't i think aren't came to me and told me that it got to call. And then jason. I was through for you know you. You hate to lose a great talent like arn high you never gonna get. You may never get another talent like. Aren't you know when you when you lose somebody like that. But i always felt like I i realized that i recognize that. We didn't have the monster territories that other places had that we weren't ever going to be able to pay guys what they could make in resort can And other places Carolina is a good example And so i i remember i think i told darn you know teased on that your time man you got it you you're going to be a star you're gonna you're gonna do great you know. I never has never once even considered and now no don't do it don't don't go Because that wouldn't have been fair to hard and You know he'd given everything he when he worked for us He's doing everything he could get himself. Folk and You know i've been. I've been at been very selfish to say anything to him about. Oh we're think about it aren't would you like to stay little longer. It was his time. And i recognize that and You know what's really odd in interesting when you are Becoming good and you're becoming the star you reach a point where where it's your time and win that time is there You need to make proper move to push your your your your your Your future of forward you need to move forward and And arnett reached that spot. He needed to move up. He needed to wrestle. The there was he needed to make the big money he deserted and by. Golly meant a dorm up he went up there and he did. The same thing didn't southeastern he ripped them up there men and and he may everywhere. You wendy just kept kept doing it and It's just aren't. You're very very rare individual in the sports And i. I don't think i'm probably the only person sitting near as promoter of that. They recognize that Or or arrested I mean All of them you know i never. I never hear bad things of any kind about aren't and that's a that's a good thing to say in wrestling because You know it's it's it's not the easiest to businesses to make everybody happy and but aren't sure did.

"Everybody above him or all the orders on So you know and that's how you how you did it in those days. That's how you sold out these towns. It same ones we got. The week is a hugest had phenomenal cruise. You yet phenomenal angles. Guys went out there and work and gave their hearts and their souls and the fans knew that they're recognize. They saw it. They could tell these guys are really doing it. Man and There's the it was just a phenomenal period. And they there was a lot of other territories. I guess that we're doing the same type of deal back in the day. And i think that's one of the territory days were so spectacular and You know that's why they be old-timers and fans it go went back years ago that they would want to go back and talk about that there. Will you mentioned a minute ago. We just recently lost bob armstrong and everybody on on this call knows what a great legacy. He left behind not only in the ring and entertaining fans but with his great wrestling family. That still lives on and is still making history these days. You got any good bullet bob stories. You can share with us today. Oh man i love oh bullet. The bullet guys one intact. So far bob denied head of had had a brother relationship he was he was not just a friend he was. He was like a brother to me and And i i got one. I just thought of bob armstrong was one of the toughest and that is human alive man. I mean he had that marine background and Anyone just irregular marine. You was be marine. You know when he was there he was the guy was the best they had and he was just like that in the business and then i got a call one time that his why whose name was gail and she's no longer with us either. What a wonderful lady. She was just like bob I've got a call one day. And i lived just down the road in pensacola. I lived in the subdivision. Was maybe two miles away from bob and and gail calls me up. And she's she's panicked in. She goes runs he goes. You gotta get you gotta get over here right now and i go way. What's going on because they're finding their who's fighting. Oh the hall of bob. And then steve and it's gonna brands there in the front yard. Hurry kind like. I hung up the phone. And i'm thinking oh my god what am i gonna walk man ours dog and his boys have some kind of battle in new york. I'm like i don't know if i wanna go. No that's pretty much up again. Nobody else didn't go. And stop that guy the deal and thank goodness when i was when i got there. They kinda finished with it. Oh boy in. Bob and i went back in his bedroom. And we had a long conversation and You know he had a lot of testosterone full young guys that You know really hitting the weights. Big time they had all this energy that they needed to release and while is just that family though who oh they were so phenomenal Bob armstrong was this he is. He's the pidonia word of them. What a man should be about. Not just in the rain but in every aspect of his life He raised four boys. That were just all gentlemen Dow and his and his wife Did a lot of that raisins. She deserves great credit or because every wrestler as a wife at home. That handles the kids. And that is a job in itself and especially when you got those boys about that age A little phenomenal family. And they they were in Bob his tremendous one other one. Bob used to smoke cigarettes and we had a cadillac tournament and knoxville. The nineteen seventy six and we gave away a pink cadillac four door paint cadillac to the winner and bob armstrong won the cadillac. And this is the type of angles we were doing. Conrad induced in this the championship match and we drove the cadillac into the coliseum. Calcium act you know as always and we drove the cadillac in. We said it. We're everybody to building could see it. And it set there during the entire batch and then that night The winner was going to go over and get the car and drive it out of the coliseum and there was ronnie garvin against bob armstrong for the thing cadillac and when we When when boban song one the car Gardening rolled out of the ring and song was down. Seven and gardening went straight over to the cadillac. Everybody in the buildings watching me. You know what's he gonna do. You know which would nobody had any idea. And they had those feels stanton that Had the little Available courts that you snapped onto them. That was around cadillac if fans keep the pants from getting too close to it and Ronnie garvin goes over there and he takes one of those feels dancers pros of the cords off of it and he drives it deal sanchez through the front windshield that brand new cadillac. Wow i mean that building you know you can imagine what what action everybody was. And then what bob. The reaction was when he two minutes later then. Garbage goes onto the restroom curves to see its car is the big steel stacking through the windshield. So he's driving that car one night we phone back from some competitive someplace. And he's smoking a cigarette. People didn't know that like the smoke cigarette sometimes. And we're driving on the freeway interstate. Seventy five bob's probably driving miss bank cadillac. We'll probably doing eighty miles now. We're coming into the suburbs of knoxville. And we're in the fast lane and we come over hill toe. There's mountains and hills there in the knoxville area. And we come over the top of this hill and about Seem like thirty yards in front of his is no gun and trust novel and twenty miles an hour and bob. His cigarette is just about to take the pup and And we pops the hill. And i see the car and he sees him suit at the same time. I vote the i like. Oh my god you're never going gonna be able to avoid hitting this guy and he just takes the cigarette in his mouth and as he's putting in saudi whips around the car he just you have family goes around in the other lane and right back into the wrestling and then louis smoke out the window so cool. I thought we were going to die right here. And then they would miss the pup on a cigarette a bob the guy a missing greatly another guy. we've We've talked a lot about here on the show. Were sort of chronicling arns trip through your territory. Is jerry stubbs and how influential he was to orange career and how well thought of he was by the fans the promoters but he was more of a territory. Guy never really got much of a platform on a more national stage. What can you tell us about mr stops. And what made him so special. Jerry stubbs is a hard working guy And he was dedicated to his business. They jerry stubbs is another one of those guys. I couldn't come up with a name that came from southeastern and we started him in knoxville. Probably be nineteen seventy seventy started coming in to work and tv's and any. We gave him a few shots and and he worked his way in because he was he was so ambitious in a warranted to learn he was perfect card him and arn were so alike in so many ways i thought and to team up with just a natural i mean when i when i figured out aren't where he was headed and Jerry already was there. He'd been in the business for a while. And jerry liked darn. We all liked arms jury in particular. He says gosplan a love that aren't and he's a great guy and In men bob riding down the road that we need to put aren't and jury together and that was a you know wow it. It wasn't just a great thing for aren't and it wasn't a great thing for jerry. It was the great thing for the territory because those guys were just dynamite..

"As you know and so she went to the cook on. it was a just turning lunchtime. You know i'm just into breakfast and they about to start a over doing lunches and And i heard this big conversation back there. And he's like you want what you really want to. All of the both sides they started bringing this food and we don't miss the plane. I mean reset there. We andre just beaten in need and they would bring one course and then they would take the plates away and they bring another finally. I've finished my breakfast. And i just kind of backed off and let them fill the table. And then they'd take the table away and they fill the table and it was like. Oh my gosh. Well people were lined up. They were watching from outside the windows him to bring the so Andre was a real trip and a crazy crazy due to to be around a whole lot of fun. A lot of fun Andrea a great sense of humor. A lot of people probably don't realize that him. But i made a lot of trips with him and oh he was such fun to be around. I'm i'm fascinated by old andre stories. And obviously arns career has been synonymous with ric flair and the four horsemen. And he's probably the last. Nwea touring world champion. I'm sure you've got a ric flair story in your back pocket. You can share with us today. Don't you. I got. I got two of you know. Ride the jump out by brad away man. One of them has to do with on as a matter of fact Rick would come in and he'd say he would stay a week in southeastern pensacola and then continental to and we need came Aren't would take him around. I think i went to oregon originally and said you know. I need somebody to carry a rick around and armless like well. I'm really wanted to learn everything. It could about the business and he jumped on his like. Are you serious. You won't mean to take rick player. I said i won't be taking town. And every place. Take him out. After the the i want you to handle a there rick and he was like. Oh gosh man. It was a big honour plan. Anyway we're resting in tuscaloosa alabama and six man tag is me and bob armstrong and my brother against arm and jerry stubbs and and required and Early in the match aren't starts in that and he's doing these these phenomena as colonies tight spots and i mean one right after another with all of us baby faces you know. We're in taganrog bumpy mad. We tag out and he just have another spot for the next year another. He's got this crowd going crazy and he he called the spot and he hits the road so you drop down leapfrog whatever it was. I can't remember. It might have been my brother in the ring with him and hit. The top rope broke on the rank and he went out on. He went upside down and disappears off the apron. You couldn't see how he landed. But i really had to have landed on the back of his head. Maybe broke his neck. Was one of those deals. Where bob armstrong. And i on the eighth and we look at each other and go. Oh my god man. These days he they get mighty killed him and we've got off the apron and walked around the corner and look and and he was already flared jumped off flares paramus not sought because he was right there where it happened and he was already down there he was helping off enough and armed with this like almost popping up on his face and i was like wow man i was so happy to see was alive and then i figured you well. You know he'll get up on the apron and flare tag in or stubs tag in and are aren't got right back in the rain and players come here come here man you this herbal bump you gotta get out and are shaking their no. No no. i'm gonna go and he started right back into it again. How wow. I told on You know. I said. I think that was the night that require fell in love with ric flair really saw. What arms all about and so rick used to come into the territory and he would go out on these nights with arn and and always he wanted to take all the heels the okra. He whatever count. It was in especially like a pensacola. The sunday night. He wanted to take the whole crew out to the bar afterward with him on dolphin on fridays he would go into. Everybody had to go far with rick and he would by the camera. Qazis bond drinks just wants to kick you to drink call cameras and He would he'd have all of them drinking drinks man while there's And then they they would all get drunk in the aren't told me that in a conversation he says rani said he said he was getting all of us drunk for years and then rick would get him drunk and the deal was between me and rick is. Rick would get him drunk especially on friday night because he knew that tv on saturday and then he would he would try to get them to booking so that he had the league on saturdays so he'd be there like from saturday to the next friday and he'd get everybody drunk and the crew on us on a friday night and then he'd leave the territory and i get the tv and he knew what time is doing tv. He would call the tv station. Claire wood and he would say get getting fuller. Please come to the phone. And i would. I'm having to deal with them. And they're all laying on the ring man. You know you're cutting interviews. Nobody's studio but just the cameraman and now they're laying on the floor and now than ring and hanging off the sides of chairs that they're all dead right and he would. He would get me on the phone flare. Getting on the phone he would start laughing. He would go out of their lips. Oh drink you've done.

"Yeah well yeah just take care of the place you know. That's great so we're making scott's house note every month that's not a bad thing no Boris was like myself. He loved to go to the beach. And we would go down in you know after going to the gym and he would get out there and some people when they get in the sun they just get mahogany. Some get burnt and glowing. Red boris was a glowing red type and when his head was glowing and old About on that beach in his under tights at three hundred pounds. I would position my chair off. It'll distance and like kinda behind him. Where i could just watch. The people walk by and get their reaction quite the reaction. That young man got out on the beach i bet and he would you know we would have few beverages frosty beverages there during the day we would go back home about the same time in the afternoons and and he would always stop. By general dolphins fried chicken get him a twenty one piece dinner. Wait wait wait you say. Twenty one pieces general dolphins and he would always say it in the voice of the sheikh. Hey man you're gonna stop. Get something to eat on the way home bars. Har- general dolphins friday cheeky. Twenty one piece and brother our come home. I will usually leave the beach at the last possible moment i would come home. I would hear him snore. I would crack the door open. The man would be supine to the salen with chicken crisps and chicken. Crunches all his goatee on his back completely. Flat snoring i don't know what to say. What say there. So i didn't say anything right. I just creek the door back. Shut when in my room laid a pillow over my head and lost cost to say that the man was not nude would be lying to say that the the chicken crunchies were not the size of a quarter would be lying. Oh yeah it was. It was something to behold. So he. And i were part or not partners but roommates for awhile and Then bars finished up and he took off to somewhere else and the search for another roommate. Emily hanging will come back to it or do you want to go right into. I don't know what you want to put something in the middle here. Sure absolutely let you absorb or being nude with chicken skin and crunchy stuck in his goatee. How does the chicken not bad not bad. It was in those days. We were young nothing. Nothing killed us but it was real fried chicken and it was greasy the way it should be and the scan was heavily battered but twenty one pieces. Orne three hundred pounds while i get you. I'm more than that. And when i go when i go get you know they tried to get you like a breast and a wing and i'm like now i want to. I don't want the wing. I want to brass dark me again. See here's a man. Does i had lunch with jeff. Jarrett once took him to my favorite fried chicken place and he said i want he said that sounds good. I'll have to breasts two wings to thighs. And i turn my head and the lady taking the order said damn baby you just want the whole chicken and they started out the legs which i thought was hilarious but still he eight six pieces and i'm looking at him like is this man versus food. How is he eating with me. Casio kid and dave silva three fag is and he's eating three times the amount of chicken. Now you're telling me that bora sukhov didn't have to peace. Didn't have a six piece. Jeff jarrett special twenty one pieces a chicken that's unbelievable. Let's say that he knew he had a big match that night there was going to be some time and maybe he was eating late in the day maybe he would start out by just eating ten paces. That box would sit right where he left. And when we get in from the show the burying you know that very same not. I would hear him go in his room and start crystalline that box and he was gonna polish it off through a twenty four hour cycle. The man never failed to polish also twenty one piece. That's really impressive. Maybe two two encounters with immediate some days some days like if we had an off day on wednesday or if it was sunday was pensacola and he had all day. He would eat the whole damn thing because he could take a huge nap. Pretty impressive meaning very impressive. Let's get back on track here after you Have the steel cage match. Johnny rich and scott armstrong beach. You guys as we mentioned. Scott is a team with the rapid role the be you aren't anderson Course the eliminator and tommy gilbert but then The next time we're back in town it's September seventeenth and now. Mr olympia is going to defeat arn anderson and they do that rematch a week. Later again in birmingham. This time it's falls count anywhere. Mr olympia beats aren't anderson by d. q. I don't know how you have a d- hugh and a false count anywhere. But they did. What do you remember about The big dust. Up with mr olympia. Here you are once upon a time super olympia and then eventually tag team partners and now things are breaking down. Well sounds like to me because skipping in and out here that This angle with jerry has went. Full circle started out. Mr olympia super olympia partners adversaries. Back to partners as heels. Correct and algeria's back in the baby face rollers. Mr olympia again. Yes which is a hell of an evolution in that short amount of time. I would think but in those days jerry would go in and out without wearing that he'd wear the mass for a while and then he jerry stubbs and they were talking about it and the guy just looked so good and he was such a good performer. Nobody cared wasn't wasn't a big deal So we're back at it again. Ari you are and you keep it going even on october. First you're going to pick up a win over mr olympia in birmingham you'll be back On the eighteenth this time working with Pork chop cash and going to draw but by november fifth of eighty four. You're still working with mr olympia. This time it's a no contest so it's a it's a heated issue with you guys but let's take a timeout and talk about pork chop cash mentioned a little earlier. We haven't spent a lot of time talking about him. It's a fantastic wrestling name. And i'm sure that some of our younger listeners have no idea who were even talking about. Catch us up on all things pork chop cash. Well i think. I remember about him as she had a lot of charisma and he you know he was much in the vein of thunderbolt patterson but a a bigger thicker guy and you know he had that wrap. Tennessee was kinda think whereas routes were from so he had that stall he was an entertainer. Who was you know. He was not a world class. Ricky steamboat technician. You know he had that you know swagger to him and he looked upper body was big and he had a good rap and the you know he was it was a great middle of the card guy save with conrad dot com. We wanna be your.

"Iron on wrestling and listen. Take it for me. This is a personal endorsement of all the wrestling. Podcasts out there. This is certainly one of them. Its iron on wrestling mat. Got an arm tattoo. What the fuck is wrong with these guys. Check them out iron on wrestling. You gotta see this picture. Chemmy up about what's going on in real life You're having fun. We've talked a little bit about Some some pot roast stories and whatnot. But i think you've told me a story once upon a time that Scott armstrong started tagging land with you guys to right. He's your opponent on tv but in real life you guys become pretty close. Well what i got there. The one i spent two nights. Jerry stubbs and Second night scott. Armstrong comes over to me and he goes it room here. You're looking for place to stay. I've got a new condo with two beds. Really need somebody to help me with the rent. You know you're welcome to move in. Its move in ready. Yeah we talked about that in gulf breeze. Right yes sir. So scott and i lived together and pretty quickly thereafter brad. Was there as well. Okay and tim. Horner got booked and tim lived in the eight plex. Right around the corner. Brad bought a condo also and it was it was a group of eight places and brad was like down to our right. Tim was in our building so a bunch of young guys own tv. None of you know with the exception of tim. Horner had girlfriends or wives so hell weather. We took out led out and went to the beach and timana and discovered holy man. This is awesome and then we started to meet some bartenders and one of them was a young lady named jackie. Who bartended two thousand one. And she was the head bartender there on wednesday nights. They would have quarter bar brands. You know what that is. Don't you sir do. you've never drank it. I don't what it is though. it's cheap she yup. Yeah and you have never tilted glass with cheap shannon. It adopted down your neck. I'm sure of that. Well kabashi listening royal that type stuff. Maybe i'm a tito's guy cheetos well that's that's the hip brand these days. The young guys stalemate. Okay so ma'am we started going out now. I'm living with scott. We're having a good time. You know at that time. Scott was about two hundred pounds and we're going out and two thousand and one on wednesday night was supposed to be for a quarter bar. Brands in some type of mixer suddenly became because we all knew the bartender. Jackie and she was poor crown and seven. Oh for one quarter. That's a different deal for two fifty. They will take you out in a wheelchair and was part of her deal. Gentlemen prepared to be wheelchair bound here in a couple of hours. Oh and scott man. He was a guy. I didn't know who was a naturally small guy but had jacked himself up and worked out and had been eating really really good and live in the way. You should live prior to me moving in and he got up to about two hundred pounds. We'll man he started dropping weight and in just a couple few months. It could have been a couple of help. Lamont's man he dropped about thirty pounds. So i was a rep door. One day and bullet. Bob darkened our doorway each. I was in the bedroom and giving them a privacy and he pretty much told scott. Pack your shit and get home all that weight that we worked so hard to put on you. You have partied off of you. Look at yourself. Scott jesus christ skied inaugural bullet right. He ended up moving home And it was one of those things that happened so quickly you didn't even and i didn't even notice it but i guess it was true because russia scott did not argue. I guess he had a hard time putting a way. Look great but it one seven these big dipper since two hundred pounds. Yes it is so and so scott move back home and now the scramble was on for another roommate. I had budgeted now my my party money. I mean i didn't have any girlfriend wife. No kids not a lot of deals either. So if i can get someone to come in and split this with me and the party will continue and hoodie find. Well you would you like to take a couple of guesses or Yeah sure let me look. let me. we got Pork chop cash. Were not the first option would have been good senator. Johnny pork chop wood. A wet for johnny rich lived up in montgomery so he didn't live in pensacola. He was in and out tonker kid. Too young eighteen years old still living at home can't drink not wholly. It's not ronnie garvin. I don't know throw a name at you. Okay boris zuko okay. Now wait a minute. You teased this before. But i i thought you were kind of ribbon you lived with. Boris zubkov boris. I just met boris for the first time and he had just left not too long ago. He had the Don colonel partnership with with and he was like a private to charge slaughter. You remember that from the from the mid atlantic day yep He then. I don't know what the deal was about guys weight fluctuating. He then blew himself up about three hundred pounds and became a russian. For god's sakes or soup off so he came in. No one knew who was private. Jim nelson he was born zhukov. And you know for god to put on probably forty pounds. Which i would say or fifty you know. His head grew with his body. Yes it did you go back. And you look at early pictures of him when he's in mid atlantic like you're talking about his private jim nelson and then you look at him as more sukhov. That does not look like the same person at all nickname buffalo head. There you go. I didn't give it to him. So boris don't get hot at me. That was just a nickname that we inherited and man his head when he would start working the man which starts to glow and his head was glowing as well. Good solid worker. Good good you can tell you. Been around sarge. And some steamboat in those guys because psychology and work rate was up their big solid go-getter good-looking russian. Well he needed a place to stay. So i asked you know they armstrong's there's okay if i took in a roommate..

"Loved them absolutely loved him and they caught. You know. i think the kid was only eighteen years old. He's very young at this time so We had a run with those guys that you know as the tag champions we can now we would. We would work it. Totally different from. Save bob in enron the match right we will get two sets a heat on those guys and give them what they thought was in those days. You very seldom. We'll do that but we would go. Long enough guess a made on one get one to tag people thought. Were going home and almost immediately. We cut him down to and it was like. Oh jesus these older more experienced guys have just got more experience. They've been champion for long time. They're men grown man and these are kids and that was the pretty much the way the audience felt about it which gave us a median advantage of. Get nate and man. It was just a whole different dynamic. Working with those guys and a very interesting story came from that So we had our run with him. And i don't remember how long we worked with them but once sunday night were sitting in jefferson room. In pensacola which were working there. That night and i don't know if it was offer sheikha wasn't sure i don't know which one was. The father of the tonga kid. Do you know. Let me let me look fast. Spac chance looking. Does it really matter because the story wouldn't change if it was either one of them but now they lived in pensacola right but they weren't working the territory they work in for new york right one or the other offer sika and this is when they were at their scariest seeker hours. Uncle was uncles. Okay articles hair was out to here. Now they're in their street clothes. One of them walks in to the locker room and he looks around and he comes right to me rest anderson. May i have a word in the bathroom or in the thank you said in the shower men in those days now or you know about the brody story. Oh wow okay. So you're thinking this is going to be trouble or at least a fight now. I have just immediately racing thanking god. That i heard the kid. He's eighteen years old. We were careful with them right. I don't think that we bumped him. I know we didn't bump him bad recklessly or anything like that on. I'm thinking what did i do wrong. What if i done wrong and beyond reality weak-kneed costs these guys. Are there different. Different level of tough. Yeah the boys walk in. And i'm thinking oh shit. I hope somebody's listening out for this gets too bad And he stuck his hand out he said. I just want you to know. You've done a fabulous job with the kid. He got a call from new york. He has a starting day ten days from now or something and we we owe you. Thank you very much brother. Home set down. Jesus sport that go the other way. Forget i thought it was going to be about to being a fight. And now he's putting the over. Oh at least sixty to get craned right. And and that's just how they are and invest. How the business was in those days because his he went from like six hundred a week. Conrad his first check was like thirty five hundred. Wwe wcau and they knew that they weren't there. They knew what that meant and they brought him in and they used him well and i think they put him with hakuou and it was just one of those stories that you sh- man but the business guys respected each other. They you know they took care of each other really was a family atmosphere and most places and especially in pensacola. That was part of the. What made it so special down there year and a half things like that. Don't happen very often and i just thought it was a really cool store. No it is a cool story. And i'm glad you shared it with us But the rat patrol getting the win here. Johnny rich is tiger kids tag team partner. I think a lot of our listeners are familiar with taga kid. But we don't know a ton about johnny rich. What can you tell us about him. Well you know he went. Is johnny rich. Tommy richest cousin when tommy was having his ron johnny kind of came in and got in on the tail end of that a at this time he was really young. Good looking good look baby face. And he sold tremendous I don't think he had a lot of success. Maybe outside of pensacola may be memphis and a couple smaller territories Just remember wondering myself. You know where he was going to pop up and he never did so. I don't know if he was an injury or whatever they was it got him out of the business but at one time he was really really good baby face. Well that's gonna do it for this next episode of arn. We're going to be back next week to pick it up where we left off of course after dropping. The tax straps to the rat patrol. What a great name. That was back in eighty four Going back to georgia championship wrestling is going to be working with sweet sugar brown. He's going to wrestle with ron. Garvin is going to have a strap match actually a couple of them with all the anderson. He's finally going to get a one on one match with tiger king. Ed and there is going to be another tag title. Shot for aren't and jerry stubbs coming up of course more with the rat patrol and rarely out of out of nowhere. Mr olympia shows up to wrestle. Arn anderson a lot of stuff coming your way soon including a taped fist match a stretcher match a cage match a four on three handicap texas tornado southern street and say that three times fast. And maybe most famously a mask vs a loser leaves town match a lot of fun stuff coming down the pike here in the old territory experiment. We're doing here on the show. Dude do not let me forget next week. We need to cover meeting mrs anderson. Oh wow okay. Pat rose being a roommate or zubkov being a roommate. Okay and all of these shenanigans that followed those occurrences. We got a lot of backstage stories. Detail that i think people will find amusing of all the people you could have roomed with. I never would have imagined. Boris zuko would make the list. Well since prior to mrs anderson and i getting serious of course once we got serious all the roommates had developed mooks. I needed so privacy. But there were some stories in boris zubcoff. Pat rose. You're correct are odd choices. But gotta remember trying to save that money once scott and that's a story to remind me to tell that story about how he ended up leaving his own condo and moving back home. There was a definite reason for that is fascinating. Tell your friends about the angle on the show. Here your favourite wrestling podcast arm. It's talking all about the territory days. We'll be back next week to pick up after orange loss as a tag champ to the rat patrol and there's so much more fun stuff coming down the pike. I can't believe this is even a real thing. Man a a mask vs a loser leaves town. That's.

"And we thank lucia for sponsoring this podcast. Well here's the thing There's been much sad. Abou- barnett sexuality. He was a homosexual. This is a different time these days. It's you know whatever but once upon a time it was it was it was his bert. It was a secret. Wasn't something you're supposed to talk about and thankfully we've evolved as a society and still longer the case but there were certainly. Oh i think he sweet on so and so type talk about a lot of guys and you know it's unfortunate that when whenever anybody brings up barnette always gravitates to one of those but it's like hey man. The dude was making a fucked hundred money in wrestling so he clearly knew what he was doing right. Oh god year. Nobody ever said. Jim barnett was not a brilliant businessman right. He had oli doing the book and he had only played. Hard ass of mr barnett was home watching. Tv and he saw something me dim light. It say about that. So-and-so yes jim fire him fire fire his ass yup and he'd fire him. Jim was the money guy. he was the power. He was the owner wholly-owned part of it and only did the day to day book in which he charged a booking fee. Now this was just what i heard but only was charging him like two hundred fifty grand a year to book plus whatever he made wrestling was on top of that. And i don't know if he had points and got points pay as well but only anderson made a lot of money for a long time working with jim arnett. Did you have any interaction with Mr barnett back here in. You're in your early days. Well it's you know for some reason for a period of time when they were changing bosses and i mean very ball of jim heard all those guys jack patrick and all all the guys that were had the big boss you know with the exception of kept fry thing. His name. kip fra. But they just not side. Been there a long time. And i kept hearing you know. Well he's been here a long time to go somewhere else and all that the problem with that is. That's fine to have that conversation but there was nowhere to go right. You don't wanna wcw. I'd already been to the only other show in town to where i could make that money and and and it was Maybe get at ears been here too long. Well we came up with this deal to where i was going to be. Dustin rhodes partner against bunk. Ouseba kerry faulk remember that angle right up of course and gm came up to me and he was dead serious and he sat down the side midday Across his legs any lane in at. I'd always been very respectful of mr barnett from you. Know for a number of reasons. He just went hope. That thing works out for you are and it was so serious and it was almost like this may be your last chance. Because they don't see a lot in you you not flashy. No one had realized that work right mattered. At that point it was more about the bodies in the stories and the cartoon characters. I don't think they realized what a guy like myself or bobby. Eating eight just brag on myself. But you know i was. I was a journeyman. I could go out and i could make us. Yeah just like bobby eaton just like brad armstrong and a lotta guys you know the you could make a match and make a guy and have a hell of a match with with buddy and i knew that when he said that to me was almost like a with. This don't work. I don't know it was sincere. Meant a lot to me and And i appreciate it. Let's talk about what's next for you here. After the solely anderson match In canton ohio. You're going to be back This time working in tags at scenario in georgia. Bob armstrong only anderson and stan hansen on one side in cleveland. Ohio against arn. Ted bbc in the spoiler boy. This is nothing but hall of fame guys. We've talked a lot about bob. We've talked a lot about. The bbc talked a little bit about oli. What can you tell us about stan. Hansen in spoiler talked to the spoiler at all were to them. Obviously which. I don't even recall this match. Stan hansen was eight. Steamroller never drew a breath. He never got tired he could just keep going and he was over three hundred pounds and rock solid and i know oli respected huge stan hansen. He respected him. Just probably as much as anybody in the business right so there you know. He used impair yada but having all those top guys in that match man you can imagine. I was the rookie again. And just in all of you know. I can imagine it was pretty good. Slugfest next up is something that i've wanted to talk about for a long time. We teased it very early when we first started our show You told me the name of this tag team. And i kind of forgot and it just tickled me But it's june fourth nineteen eighty-four. Were back in birmingham for southeastern championship. Wrestling's event in birmingham at the boutwell auditorium aren't anderson and jerry stubbs. The tag straps are on the line and you lose them to johnny rich and tonga kit. And what was their name. Arn rat metro wanted name. Johnny rich scott armstrong. There was three of them right. Tonga kid.

"Maintain as we mentioned jerry stubbs super olympia and the superstar and you guys are going to be in a losing effort. Losing to jacques. Rougeau rick mccord and robert fuller. Let's break that down rick mccord as best i can tell was just a journeyman territory guy. I don't think he ever was a big tv wrestler. Do you remember mcchord. He's a small guy. Blond hair pretty fair hand. I think he was from the carolinas. If i'm not mistaken and then he's seeming with mr Robert fuller who a lot of us. W w fans remember as colonel robert. Parker is this your first time being in the ring with robert fuller and he was part ownership to had points and he was a lifer down there. Jimmy golden had s- appoints. Bob arm show had points. Ron had a majority. I would sure robert had support wants and i think His wife's brother had a couple of points And you know back back. In the day. Robert was over baby face big handsome guy and you know they have been there for some time and he was well established you know he was top got goodell it was. It was a good group of opponents for us. Talk to us a little bit about the way you say points. I feel like a lot of our listeners. Won't know exactly what you mean. You're talking percentage ownership in the territory so if there's this big pot of money This guy gets so-and-so percentage and that guy gets so so percentage of the profits as quote unquote owner right. That's absolutely correct. Thank you virtually. Yeah and i wanna say jimmy had ten points. I want to say bob had ten points. Not sure about robert address know that iran was always. It was pretty clear was the boss and had the majority of the points and Had the final say so on stuff And you know when business was good. Those ten points could be pretty sizable. I remember being over roberts One week now. We were making edits asked. I was making around eight eight fifty a week. Well you know for eighty three eighty four. That's pretty good. Til i saw roberts chat plushest points laying there on his table. We went over to shoot the shit with him. One day have a couple beers. And i don't know if it was laid there for to be seen or he just forgot new sitting there but it was checked six thousand dollars for the week for the month ago. That was just points check. Oh okay just his points check. That's a big deal. So i'm sure those guys with points their weekly payoffs for a lot bigger than everybody else's as they should have man they were the owners. They were the bosses. And so if you do that kinda math now you just say that was your average tops. Twelve plus whatever he made working and a little territory down there. That is something we should mention which was another. I found out after. I'd been there a couple of weeks. Everything in pensacola is priced for military. Oh say because it's such a huge navy base in such a you know you get the guys in the military have to be able to afford to live there. San ran gasoline all those things that are staples were very inexpensive now. I think we should touch before we move on. It's december but you could still go to the beach. Yup it seventy something seventy two for a high with a little bit of breeze blowing. Yeah that's perfect. Feels great now. The water is probably a little chilly but fierce going to hang out on the sand. You'll get no better. I kept my fat ass in the chair. I got this thing about sharks. Wait a minute. You don't get in the ocean at all new and i have been round and round every summer with my family about them not getting in aaron with all of her her standard reply ass. Look if the water is clear. I'm going in because you can see him comment. I love that. Oh you're going to take years. We're gonna outrun a- short athletic ass. You're gonna get up like jesus cross a walk on water ocean before they can bite your calf off. That's what you're saying. I i love the arn. Anderson ain't scared of but sharks by john tanto was on something in that dungeon a doomsday. Apparently out. you know. I don't know whether. I'm glad that i didn't know he was mad at me or i wish i would have so. I can fix it. But that's another tour but yeah that's that's a land shark that i'm glad i didn't have to butt heads with but man if you've ever had access or never lived in florida or california where you've had access to the beach any day of the week probably besides monday and if schools in after the end of september during the week you got to yourself private beach. Yeah and the way it was laid out. It's it's funny wrestling. Business is really crazy you would go to. We were pulled down to where the pier was a park. Our car and there would be a walkway straight up the pier. The bath house showers were on the right right there. Soon as you walked in the water pressure huge. It was ice cold but the heels. We'd be on the left side of that walkway. The baby faces on the right. And that's how we say. Now we're thirty yards apart. Never talk each other. Never looked at each other. The baby faces. Were get a little closer to the water so we weren't straight across from each other but that's and you can all go the same place she would have some Like on tuesday always just about. We go the gym. We have a change of clothes and our car will go to the beach. And you wouldn't if you had to say six thirty seven thirty show you go up to the bath house very quickly. Wash all the oil off of you. Clear your head if you had a few bruce greece out on the beach which is pretty much every tuesday and your drive the fifty miles walking. You're still in our early ready to go to work. Heaven hard to beat. We were talking about this six man before we went down the rabbit hole of all the fun. And pensacola jacques. Rougeau is the other guy in this group. The six-man mass talking about robert fuller rate mcchord and jacques gr. Joe is this your first time shock. You guys are going to have a hell of a run in the wwf. But i remember him ever even being in southeastern shows what i know. What can you tell us about this. It was one of those things that he was really good friends with robert and robert would bring him in and out.

"Let's talk a little bit about and boy. This is gonna be fine. Only anderson as a tag partner. We know you're going to go on have great success with only as a as a just regular two men tag as a six man. Are you nervous anxious excited. I mean you're in the ring with all. He's no longer on tv. He's no longer just your boss backstage man. You're in the ring with him. I need your teammate. This kinda cool I was in all. I got to say for the first time up. Close what i'd seen as a kid and truly believe that this guy's an ass kicker and even you know dear in his scuffles with you know he's not gonna get much on the road warriors and brooks wasn't a bumper but he would have been smart enough to bumper out for only i think because he was the boss and he was writing the checks so that's probably how that went. But you know you just got it when you see guys like ronnie garvin and oli and wa who had just you know flare when he was asked kicking flare other than so much entertaining flair when he really wanted to beat a baby face up you felt it. Yeah you're standing on the apron you know colorado's a fan you feel it. Would some mail extras going on sure. And that's what i felt in oli was just it became real to me. I had i wished i would have had an inkling or premonition of what was to come another year and a half down the road but for that time. It was a learning process to share the six-man man battles continue. You're going to be teeming with brett wayne and man mountain dr. So did you in berry. Just hit it off right away. Yeah yeah barron got got along day one. Still a good friend today before you know what. You're back in canton ohio. Now it's a regular tag match you and only against the road warriors Scale of one to ten how rough was working with the road warriors when they were green. Probably an eight so somewhere in there. Everything was solid. Everything georgia they never caught me on my head. They never knocked out my teeth or they never hit me in a nuts. And that's the only three that i really had hitting not says no fun. You're going to bounce around a little as a tag team wrestler We mentioned earlier brett. Sawyer he's going to be teeming with you a little bit you'll even a team with and how about this for a one off. I don't know that you maybe even remember this. Maybe you do. But it's at the omni across from me is carl fergie. And he's gonna be taming As oklahoma boy. And he's going to be teeming with norman. Frederick charles the third from the united kingdom and your tag team partner here in the omni. Do you remember. No fella named ricky rude about that rude at the omni tag team partner with orn little preview for the dangerous alliance all the way back here in georgia championship wrestling july seventeenth nineteen eighty three and We've only got a handful of georgia events. Left you'll do one more tag match with the road warriors this time teaming with david jones. And then you'll get wins over. Tony's zane twice once in chattanooga once in columbus it also pick up a win over joe and that will bring your georgia ruin to a close. Of course you're going to come back in and make more spots but it's time to venture into another territory so your last spot here is the omni beat joe lightfoot. It's august twenty eighth but fast forward and southeastern championship. Wrestling is the new thing. And before you know what. You're going to be teeming with jerry stubbs. And that's what we're going to be talking about next week southeast championship wrestling actually. It'll be two weeks from now we're gonna do and ask aren't anything next week. Take your questions about georgia championship wrestling. If you've got questions about matt. Born paul lowering destruction inc. Oli anderson the way the payoffs work and really somebody. We didn't even talk about. Because i don't believe oli was the the only guy sorta running the show there in georgia. There's another fellow we didn't discuss at all but maybe we'll get into next week and My boy you may have a story or two right swan. We're talking about jim burnett. Probably who doesn't get his. Just do i don't know why i mean i'm guilty of it. I just did it myself. Everybody does a barnett impression. Nobody really talks about barnet's impact but boy he had quite the story to tell and we're gonna do our best to talk about. His interactions with aren't and georgia and everything else that happened in georgia championship wrestling and then in two weeks southeastern championship wrestling. Now you're getting to my neck of the woods dude. Yeah well. I can't wait. My friend cannot wait. It's a huge part of my life coming up for the pensacola territory. I mean pretty. Much life changing. If you've got a question that you want to ask about all things georgia whether it's paul ayla ring man born or anybody involved only barnett anybody along the way. Brian blair then fight We want to hear from me. Ask a question right now over at the orange show probably get some roadway or questions to if i had to guess and we'll be back in two weeks for all things southeast championship wrestling. Don't forget leave us. A five star review. If you think we've earned and tell your friends about your new favorite podcast..
