"On defense. Big strong top makes the simple place that he's doing that. You're not gonna notice them as much, and that's what you want with a big guy like Griffin loose a good weekend. Grandpa played with coach read, right? Yeah. I think my dad played against Don Luis. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Sure, Don was at big w I don't remember watching dawn play. So I remember watching a play. Griffin's a big big kit. Goes all the way down to the ice has Jack Becker racing down the ice. After the two number eights. Go after land puck that race won this time by coal Krieger. Center ice Sasana Krieger over the fireside house Asana river, Michigan state is losing one of their better defense would here at the later stages. It comes in. Here's slight early just missed boy had that open corner. And I'm not sure if somebody tip that or he just missed the limit. The International Space Station Begins

"So today is another very special episode because we're celebrating the twentieth. Anniversary of the beginning of the international space station. The I s a critical mission in this story is S T S eighty eight. It's the shuttle mission that brought the unity module to join the first element Zara in space. It was the first ISS assembly mission for the space shuttle, the first time I s elements join together and the first spacewalks for ISS assembly and maintenance SDS Eighty-eight launched on December fourth and return, December fifteenth nineteen ninety eight so tell the story we're bringing in Jerry Ross, he's a former astronaut and flew with Mr. Cabana, Mr. Bob. Cabana the commander and currently the director of the Kennedy Space Center on SDS Eighty-eight. Ross went out with astronaut Jim Newman back during the mission for the first three spacewalks of assembly and maintenance to give you some idea of how cool that is where over two hundred now for I s assembly and maintenance base walks at the time of this recording. So with no further delay less giambra head to our talk with mister Jerry Ross for the twentieth. Anniversary of the international space station and the milestone mission SDS Eighty-eight enjoy. Jerry. Thank you so much for being here today. I really appreciate you actually taking the time to come on here. I'm glad to be with you. So today, we're going to be talking about a milestone mission SDS ADA. This was a lot of I this was the first time that the first ISS assembly mission, the first ISS, our international space station space walk to actually do assembly and maintenance very important milestone in the beginning of the international space station program. So I kind of wanted to start by just sort of setting the scene. This is late nineteen ninety eight hour talking about what is what's going on at NASA where we coming from what's going on right now. What's going on one thousand nine hundred eight? Okay. Well, for me, personally, I'd been on one of the MIR missions SEO seventy four when we'd gone up and visit the MIR station, and we actually added the docking module to the MIR station that all subsequent SP. Official visits. There used to dock to the MIR station after that was done. I went into a fairly lengthy period of leading the spacewalking team to try to figure out how we were going to build a space station from spacewalking standpoint, we build a large cadre of crew members and engineers and and flight controllers. We went through evaluated every piece of hardware to make sure that we could physically do what we're supposed to do. Or what the engineers needed us to do to do the assembly and maintenance activities on that? We found many things that were not adequately designed and sent those back to the program and said, we can't do that. And we worked hand in hand with them to figure out ways to fix things and get things ready for us to be able to confidently build the station and maintain it. So this was coming from experiences on MIR to right because that was also a collaborative. Endeavor even said, you were talking about the docking module that fit the US shuttle to the MIR. Right. We didn't do any spacewalking on MIR except for one or two times. Okay. And that really didn't feed into to this effort. But certainly what we did learn on MIR about longer term stays in space in the logistics of it and how to do the care and feeding for the crew members that were up there for long periods of time. That's all certainly folded into our our thought processes in our planning and our execution of station. Once we start staffing it. Okay. So then how how did you even start with if learning to spacewalk, and knowing what you were going to do to actually assemble the international space station. Okay. Well, I had done five spacewalks already by that sorry for spacewalks by that time

"Yep. And rainy Brown, or can you coach who's who's who's with us on a regular basis? You know, we all know we know each other well enough to, you know, I I wouldn't say nitpick, but I mean, that's kind of what we do. Sometimes, you know, we just grind on the details of what makes a kick the best it can be. So you know, I might hit one that looks really good, but we, we all know coulda hit it just a little bit better. Our specially, no, I can get a hold of that ball better. So you know, we line it up again and we, you know, and that's, that's stuff that we're doing. Like you said, you mentioned earlier when you know I'm off on everybody else's on field one and I'm over on field three or you know, later in the year when you know we'll have a little bit of weather and the rest of the team needs practice inside. You know, Jerry and Randy Morgan salmon, I will go outside. And will you. We'll try to get as much experience outside grind through the details of what we do. All of those things lied to us make kicks when we need to make them for sure. You know, you always hear about offensive lines. They're better when they stay together. Never forget. One of the first teams I ever covered was in New York Giants in the eighties, and they had an offensive line where the some absolutely was better than the individual talents of the parts. If there was a pro football focus in those days, I think most of those guys would be in the in the bottom half of their individual jobs. But collectively they played forty eight games in a row together, and they were really good because they knew what everybody was doing. And I wonder, do you believe that in this is such a layup question, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it that the fact that since the moment you walked in there or really for a long time you've had event John Harbaugh had Jerry Ross. Berg is your. Special teams coach, you know you've had you've had for so long. You've had the same holder in Sam, cook your punter. You've had the same snapper in Morgan Cox in you'd. Have you've had you what does that mean to that? That sort of togetherness that cohesiveness? What does that mean to your job and your success? Oh, it's paramount. Having that continuity between all of us having that open line of communication between each and every one of us. To where we can pull out the best from each other. That's it's huge. The way the way Morgan approaches throwing the ball back there. Sam works on his hands to the point where I I would. I would say SAM's hands, rival, you know, like Odell Beckham any day of the week. You know, you got a, you got guys that grind on these on these details together. You know the ball, the ball almost kicks it self. You gotta have the right guy to kick it, but the, you know, the way these guys serve it up for me. It's, you know, it's, it's the best possible situation that a kicker could cook, kicker, could could possibly want to be in. I'm gonna finish with this question. I wonder I I would consider in Bill Belichick just talked about it this week. I would consider the best kick for the circumstances that I've ever seen in my life at events. Harry's kick through the snow in the playoff game. The tuck rule game against Oakland in two thousand one that was the patriots first Super Bowl year. Do you have any recollection of watching that kick when you must have been whatever, like eleven years old or something? Do you have? Do you? Were you watching that game or d. remember seeing that kick at all? I do. I do. I remember seeing. I remember that whole Super Bowl run and Attari knocking down the winter. That was when they played the, they played the Rams of that year. That's right. Okay. Yeah. So I remember, do you remember the kick against the raiders that forty five yards in the snow? Did you watch that? I do far and I'm with you that's far away the most impressive kick that I've ever seen anybody make to to be able to come through in that moment as big a moment as that that is in tough conditions as you could possibly be facing. And that's why he's goat..

"DM me at organizations and biceps be is e and biceps on Instagram, Twitter. All right. I have a good job and I'm happy with it. I also have a business idea that I have been putting some effort into on the weekends and nights when I have time recently in the job I'm getting paid for. I've been getting some more opportunity which in turn has taken up more of my time. So I'm curling position where I can use my extra time to get head of my peers at mckern company, but to do so I have to sacrifice most of the time I spend a working on my business idea. What questions do I need to ask myself in order to make sure I'm allocating my time in a way that I won't regret in my future. I don't think it's questions, man. I think it's a fucking feeling man. If you're working on a business idea and your question, whether or not you should get ahead and your corporate job, which I'm not saying that anything wrong with or dive into a business idea. If that business idea is destined for success, there is no questions in your mind. It is like autopilot answer. It is. It is instead of the gentlemen saying, I'm taking some of my time. It's taking him saying, I'm taking every waking hour outside of work to develop this. So I think he's answering his own question and I think he needs to focus on increasing his productivity at work because it sounds like he doesn't at this point, have what it takes to make an outside idea work. What I would tell you is that if you're trying to question, whether you're ready to go, do the side thing, I would never ask this question basically, meaning like if that was me, I would've I would have just moved out. So you know what I'm saying to that seer, the seriousness that John spoke to, and I think that you need to sleepless. Everybody's always talking about this or that. For twenty years. I haven't slept that much. I still fucking feel pretty fucking awesome. So I just don't buy it like you got more time and if you're fucking serious, you're going to do it. If you're not, you're gonna keep asking this question to me. That mean knows me. It's not me because to me when he asked the question, that was a lot of indecision. Yes. And when you know what you want, you go to such yourself, say, hey, this is what I want. But like you say. You can't Biblically. They say, you can't serve two masters. You know, you might get serve two masters and you can't be chased. Like I say, you can't chase to rabbits as like, hey, I'm I'm either all the way over here. All we are transitioning into this because this is where it won't be, but rocky only caught one chicken. Exactly, exactly. You could you, could you make me fuck aid infra graphic for Instagram for that? Jerry Ross. All I'm thinking about is chickens Jane to fuck barrels those amazing. That's some fucking country Appalachians shit right there. Next, the hardest thing you've had to overcome in business. While I would say. Learning that just because. Partner shares a business he does or the same ideas or the same goals that they are a good fit or not a good fit for you. It is just like it's extremely rare to find the woman that you can marry. It's extremely rare to find a business partner that you could coexist with for years in years in years, when there's emotions in the mix, there's money in the mixers business growth in the mixed. There's location in the mix. So I think the hardest lesson I learned is the true difficulty of coexisting with another human being trying to accomplish a business goal in that the level of prequalification that I know that needs to be done..

"I as a referee, I'm I'm kind of on the periphery. So it just I, I was I was lucky until that one one Linson it, the new kickoff rule. What do you think? You know, we, we didn't see much. Of it last night. But I, I love it. I spent a lot of time talking to Jerry Ross Berg, the great special teams coach for Baltimore, who was a big part of developing this. I mean, the fishing didn't develop this and you know, competition committee had a lot to do with the special teams coaches did and and it's a great next step because I had moved to the point where I felt kickoff needed to go away. These massive collisions that we were seeing both the college and the NFL level where nobody did anything wrong. But the the chance of severe head and neck injury was was was significantly higher. So something had to be done. And I think this is a great step, and I think is, is it develops, you know, we didn't see it last night, but I think the advantage is a little bit to the receiving team so it it sets up maybe a more exciting play if there is a return with less chance of injury. And if you have the big leg, like we saw last night several times and. It's kicked out of the end zone. Then there's almost no chance of injury, and we start the ball on the twenty five yard line. So I think it's a great next step. I think there's there's things talking to Jerry that that the coaches have to figure out the officials have to figure out how mechanically deal with the double team blocks, and you'll eat a wedge blocks, but but overall, I think the committee the competition committee did a great job protecting players with with this change. There was a play last night, the ravens tight end had the bold dislodged from him and in the end zone. And I think you even said they should've called a penalty on that for a defenseless receiver. No, they did call one like, okay, so they did call you, you agreed with that call? No, no. And in real time, those those do get missed. I mean, that's, that's just, you know, you see that bang bang play in real time, and it appears that he's into the head and neck area and in slow motion replay. Well, he just didn't quite get. There and and but that is kind of the the, the philosophy, it's not winning doubt. But if if it's that close than than than we'll throw the flag to protect the players and and it is week one. And I think there was just they just made a mistake. I think Walton nounce just an unnecessary roughness fell. He did you kinda let us all into the kind of the wrong direction that it maybe it was the new rule because we didn't get enough information on the announcement. But as we looked at it more and he didn't make the same announcement, we did deal with it as a as a defenseless player, and there just wasn't forcible contact of the head neck area same same with the play later in the game as well. So Terry, I'm trying to figure out defenseless receiver. If I'm in the end zone, I'm a defensive back and you go up for the ball. I'm not allowed to hit you. Oh, absolutely. But you just can't make forceable contact to the head neck area. Okay, so that last night. So that wasn't a foul. So defenseless receivers, only if I go up top correct yet. Well, that and one other thing, if you lead with the crown of your helmet into a so you're, that's also that's it. That's okay. That clears that up because I was trying to figure this out of if I'm a defense by the way, are we ever going to give the defense rules in their favor? I, I'm personally a big fan of defensive football. I don't like sixty seven sixty eight that we see in college football lot these days. But you know, they they do pretty well in the NFL, but we take it away everything. Terry, we taken away, you can't head slap and the five yard penalty. Can't put your hands on somebody. Well, people ge- generally like scoring and I do think they the the rules tend to favor the offense..
