"What's your next step? You said I deserved. You have some empathy and and, you know, just give us time to evaluate this game, and then we'll figure out just like we always try to do. So Coach K doesn't need me to police him, and he does plenty of great things for a lot of people, and I know that later on, he went back and apologized, But he used the word empathy, so I'll use the word empathy. Let's remember that this was a student reporter. And this is coach K. That a guy is the most powerful guy on that campus. Probably the biggest name guy that kid ever talked to in this guy's. This is a kid who aspires T get into a profession. So I think we all have a responsibility and and certainly none of us have the stature of coach K in our worlds. But you have a responsibility on a college campus to foster and have empathy and understand that that's probably the biggest moment this kid's life. And now I just got blown up. He was embarrassed. Let's use a little empathy with on a day to day basis when we're remembering how how we interact with with the students on the college campuses that were on and the truth is, that's not an off the wall question. No, it wasn't really out about And you know what? There's a There's a different way of answering that, too. Don't you think you could have said? Well, you know, we just haven't gotten there yet because we're still smarting from last night, but we'll get there and and we all have bad days, But But I think time in place we I think it's always good to step back and say, Who am I talking to? What are they trying to do it? And, you know, how can I put myself in that person's shoes? And maybe maybe go a little bit easier on the on the Cub reporter from the Duke? Is that? Yeah. I mean, coaches are teachers. That's a teaching moment ago. Interesting. Chris. Use a piece of audio there, so I don't have a piece of audio from my parting shot. Nothing. Well, we let that go. Yeah, OK, good enough. We'll never outlives a documentary of last week. It's all I got to say. Ever so for my party shot what I wanted to do. Of course, we now have the Super Bowl set right? It's Tom Brady in the book. 10 years versus Pat Mahomes in the Kansas City Chiefs, and we talked a little bit last week about some of the big 10 representation in the NFL playoffs. Well as we get ready for the Super Bowl, this is Tom Brady's 10th Super Bowl appearance. And, of course, he's from Michigan. We're gonna be talking about this a little bit more next week, by the way, the Big ten's involvement in the Super Bowl and Tom Brady, but it had me thinking about Just the career Tom Brady's had in the NFL How it's easily the most decorated accomplished career and individuals had in the NFL. It got me thinking about what about the big tent. Who's had the most decorated big 10 careers for football and men's basketball, and I came up with two different answers by one open up to the table, saying any candidates pop in mind. Most decorated careers. Well, let's see Magic Johnson would pop up. Yeah, and that's a fair candidate and be a champ and see a champion gold medal winner. I'm thinking, just big tent. But you're right, especially if you include those but just big 10 career most decorated I got two Buckeyes in mind. I'm thinking Archie Griffin has to go too annoying to time Iseman Trophy winner That's right knee before time. Big 10 champ wasn't for Rose bowls. And then for basketball. I'm thinking way back Jerry Lucas back in the sixties, three time all Big 10 Player, two time national player of the year. And, Of course, this is during the time period where freshmen couldn't play varsity sports. So all three years he was big 10 Player of the year. He ended up in three final fours. Those three years 11 of the national championships. He was the most outstanding player twice. I think when you look at big 10 careers for football and basketball, those might be the two leading candidates now, Jerry Lucas. You you forget about that is that you're going into the way back machine, but good six decades. The other interesting thing about that Ohio State team. The state of Ohio own college basketball at the top in because the guy that kept them from winning more than one was University of Cincinnati. It's right, 61. I believe or 62. They want the bear cats one too. And I think they beat Ohio State both of those games because they went three straight years. 11 loss to the bear Cats Any any rebuttal, Chris? You getting in Canada to stick out better than that do not have audio of will calling those games. I thought we would have those in the archive somewhere that really it's gotta exist. You got next morning. That could be my shiny little production piece. My call of the 1961 Nancy.

"At the age of ninety seven a war war veteran who was born on veterans day nardiello was hired at the journal august since nineteen forty seven and planned to get six months of experience than find another job. What's funny is that six months turned into sixty one years. That's how fast it happened. Nardiello once said why he covered covered cincinnati reds cincinnati. Bengals miami university football basketball and middletown athletics and also the school in columbus he regularly wrote is off the bench. Columns in the paper also wants the director of media relations at lebanon raceway. One of the comments on the facebook post shared mentioned that jerry was always on time on the deadlines and always very cordial when announcing the results in lebanon. Raceway which i don't think is a thing anymore but i still think it's up you go by forty eight in lebanon north end of town. You should be able to see the old Stands there nardiello and jerry. Lucas will be forever linked. You might know jerry lucas for his impressive throughout middletown college and the pros and the first article. That nardiello wrote about jerry. Lucas was when he was in junior high middletown every high school game. Lucas played including the seventy six game. Winning streak and back to back state champs. He's an icon of middletown jerry. Lucas said i really enjoyed our relationship for decades now. Jerry lucas has written a book. Midi magic and my magic should be available this year in twenty twenty and nardiello is mentioned a lot throughout the book. So it's definitely one that i'm gonna keep my eyes out and i like to buy now jerry. Lucas at eighty mentioned that he'll be remembered forever. As far as i'm concerned you can read the rest of the article mentioned journal. Hyphen news dot com. And just see how much he meant to middletown ohio. The middletown journal and local sports. Like i mentioned middletown high and cincinnati reds. Bengals and miami. You just mentioned a few personally. I didn't know him and personally. I not familiar with his work. Because i'm not sure when the middletown journal you know went away but the same time you know. That's greatness right there in a time where you know journalism as seen so many changes and you know paper journalism is you can still struggling but remember your local journalists. Make the news happen or bring you news. Rather it's it you can't ignore the fact that sixty one years of same job.

"This message brought to you in partnership with Adah and Chad. In Jerry Lucas is fascinating new book where the Tour buses don't go, which is joins a crowd of you know, as I said before 800 guide books, but it is very distinctive in the way, he writes, and some of the places he Tells you about. You don't hear much about the Reed Dunning Memorial Park in ordinary books. You don't ordinary or cliche ridden tour books. You don't often find Jack Ruby's grave. You don't often hear the whole compelling story of Helen Brock or Andrew Cunanan or at Dean or those two charming Weirdos Patty Colombo and Lori Dan into how long did it take you to do this vote? Jerri. It's funny. You know, one of your other guests had mentioned the swooping and bashing styles of writing. Yes, and from my whole life every time even 1/5 grade composition. I was a basher staring change mess around until what I came out with was utter. Yeah, Available stopped, You know, And then I throw up my hands and walk away with this book. I actually evolved from how into a super And I think it's because all these years of things crammed Yeah. Years. Yeah, all the neighborhood talk that I knew the basic story, Right? So for me, it was just sort of backtracking and actually having to nail down exactly dressed well, you did You know, one of the other nice things about the book is you You did a lot of research and you cite a lot of places and you recommend other websites on it. It's You're sort of giving kind of author. You're not this, you know, holier than now know everything. And I think that is a huge, huge bonus for the book. You have a really Creative side. I mean, I know that you wrote a song that was in that run Howard movie. How does How does that happen? How did that I had a publisher, Music publisher. That was so old. He sold Sophie Tucker. My God. Your father didn't know this was your father. Oh, no. I could have done my great grand. OK, but he heard that Ron Howard was looking for a song for the film and he submit their mind and you know, it's better to be lucky than good in a lot of cases and and run our chose mine. And so it's just a little little conversation piece for me. And you still get royalty checks for how much? How much? Oh my god dot the biggest I ever got any year was about 7 50 a day least I ever gotten a year was about $60. That's not bad. That's not that. You also I know you were on this stage You were on with Bob Collie, I You know, I don't know this I know from your book because you talk about Bob Collins and your And that you were on his show talking about a game that you had developed. I have developed a game called Rock and Roll Trivia. And Bob Collins was very heavily into rock and roll. Yeah, he was kind enough to have me on his show where I had the first chance to make a fool out of myself on the radio. You're not doing that now, man. You're good. You're good. You're good. Well, you know, one of the ways I really wanted to write. The book is I didn't want to write it. Number one, you know, ponderous way were nothing like I know everything and you don't write. I threw out things. I threw out my own conjectures and I and I said, you know, I can't prove this. This is what I think, right? Here it is. Well, In fact, I even give one ghost story that I am. I'm like psychically challenged. I mean ghosts either. They're afraid of me or I just can't Pick anything up. But, you know, for years of wandering through graveyards, where most of the time I never get anything, and I had one little my own ghost story with my wife up in Richmond, Illinois, eyes up near the Wisconsin border, So I threw that And I mean, now that I know is in the other book, and I can't prove it and I can't document it's just here It is. You know, believe it. Don't believe it. We're other thing I wanted to do is I wanted to let people you know, in reading the book, pick out what they really wanted to see. And maybe they're not interested in this. This this They are interested in this this this and again if you want to find out more about it. I tried to steer him in the right direction to learn more about it. Yeah. You really killed that pages and pages? Yeah, I guess I totally I totally get that and you also You know, you also follow your own interests. I mean, it's It's so obvious to me that you are more much more interested in the lives and and legends of Ah Two fellows named Ricardo in Jean Connor than you are and going over the old old Well trod Capone stuff and you have Have Sam Giancana's last meal, Right? Dine like a mafioso. I wrote about MGM kinda, and then I just happen to know. That a time somebody took him out in his Bassano park. He was preparing an Italian meal. Sure. And then I thought, Well, I'll throw in the rest of, you know, I don't think many guidebooks have recipe. No, it's a You know what it is. It's a friendly friendly guide book. It is literally like To me. You're the kind of guy who would be fun to sit next to on a couple stools at the tavern. I mean, it's a kind of I think every tavern in Chicago the shrinking number of taverns. Should should literally have this book you've got. You know Jack Ruby's grave site, for goodness sakes. Gee, I had no idea Jack Ruby because he is great, you know, And you know what I find now? Is I ate so badly, so fewer the younger generation if they really lost touch with a lot of history, and I'm sure there's people out there who were saying Maybe the name sounds dry draft. Yes, see, I just find that said a Studs Terkel used to say that the This country suffers from a collective Alzheimer's were all we're interested in is what's what's the new thing is. Well, you live in the suburbs Now you've been married for a good long.

I mean, one of the great college shooters of all time, JJ Rettig, and he. Played for Duke you play for like, I don't know. UCLA or cows. And like that cool. He's a great show that will write it wouldn't. He wouldn't have been as polarized because he played for Duke. And he was great. You hate it. But people didn't hate Jay Williamson. Jay Williams is pretty great before it got around anymore. It's a good point. What I mean, there's other you know, other do I Williams Williamson? Everybody loves him because he smiles though. Yeah. No. He's got such a great person you he's infectious you can't help. But like him I want to be around him. And obviously he jumps out at the gym and as human highlight reel. So it's he's like Dominique. But but eighty yeah. All right. So he's he's just inherently likable. I found this little I just actually pretty cool to get an update here. Get it back studio with that comeback is gonna join us on set. And I saw a great slide show. Sometimes it's rabbit holes. That are knowing sometimes in ones that are great. And you know, magic there Michael Jordan's there. Bernard king from Tennessee. My guy, of course, Leitner Jerry Lucas for the puck is Danny Manning's name. I didn't bring up that should have Pete marriage as well, although Pete never played into w tournament. But the capsule listen to this capsule for its short for later, possibly the most hated college basketball player ever Hama, but he was really great. He led the blue devils to four straight final fours. He played in twenty three of a possible. Twenty. Four NCWA tournaments in his career while anyone back to back titles. The only thing about that bother me about Chris the way he was positioned, which was completely aronie. It's not even by the media. But I think it was the thought that permeated I hate to pull the race thing because that's lazy. But I do think it applies here and sometimes unnecessarily combustible. And that's not how we don't do that on the show. We don't reach for race to get clicks. But I do think at least with Leitner. There was a perception early. That because he was white automatically affluent. I and later, and we'll talk about this with his mom was teacher. Yeah. He was a blue collar kid, right? He really not. He looked like a J crew model with the with the flow in hair, and that rice smile and stepped on people's daddy was little look like a blue, Duke, blue devil. He did. But he did not grow up with any sort of value. I e p scrapper. Yup. And I don't know that it gets the respect on that that he should. We'll talk later coming up next going to be awesome. What what kind of response there's going to be out there. I mean, and what you're telling this school that you you don't want to be a part of the program anymore, and you're kind of throwing out to what might be out there. I mean, it's a lot of things that could happen in that process. I think the the portal itself has been sensationalized a lot by the by the media. It's really in my experience and seeing all these way in seeing all these releases and things through the years. It's just about the same number of releases that you would have got to begin with except now they sit in one place instead of coming one at a time via Email to the director of recruiting you're director of ops or the head coaches or compliance. They're coming. They're all in one place. So there really isn't in my opinion, much difference to what it's always been other than. I can click a button. Okay. See that. He's there, and we can communicate with them. You don't hear via Twitter this that or other have your compliance contact their compliance to get the it's made the process easier for us on our side? But it it's not really that much different. It's. I kinda disagree a little bit. It's it is different. I mean is different that. That there's there's more guys that are transferring and. You know, because I've I've, you know, we experienced that this year and talking to guys I mean, there's as a parent. You know, there's not even a good reason. You know, I mean, did you wait where you're shaving this morning? And you, you know, in in in your woke up and decided that I wanna I wanna transfer him. That's my son or daughter. You know, I mean Gracie comes to Michigan next year. And then I mean, this is going to be it's not gonna be you're shaving your legs one day. And then and then I want I want to transfer. There's let's talk about this. And let's unless there is an issue. Let's try to get that that correct that fix because you know, the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the road. I remember hearing that that cliche cliche for a reason. And it could be even you got to have a girlfriend. She calls you up, and she's found another guy, and she's not interested in you anymore. Can't be there anymore. I can't go to school anymore. I'll hit the button and transfer. Well, I remember store used to tell. All the time when I was growing up, and I can't remember the name right now. But I mean, the best athletes that ever come out of Chris line Ohio headache scholarship to play at the state university. Was it Ohio State Larry Cima Macher? He would have been in the class with Mel know he'd been in a class with Jerry Lucas heated classmate. John havlicek. He was recruited in that class had a girl friend down there about six weeks or so and decided that he was gonna come back home and didn't transfer. You just you just came back home a farm is that two one. We're that's that's what I remember. I remember it was like, the it was it was a story that always stuck in my mind. He never gave it a chance. I mean, he could. And he was good. Now, we talk about the great athletes. It came out of night, which I'm not a member of that group. But I'm gonna tell you Larry Cima Macher, maybe as fine athletes. It's ever come out across night. Football basketball didn't play football. But every thirty three points a game and basketball player, and he would have been a great team at Ohio. State if he had stuck it out. Those teams were really really good. So come on the football things real quick. I saw you sent your recon advanced trip down to South Africa to scout out the site for the spring trip. I saw a couple of pictures on Twitter trip..

"How are you, sir? I'm telling you, I'm doing, well, my friend you I'm doing all right? Yeah. It's starting to warm up a little bit in here with a TV lights on and everything breath. Well, yes. So that's a positive might be chilly, but you could breathe I'll be honest. The other studio going home is burning a bit. I told him to tell the engineer what's going on. Goggles or someone oxygen? Not wasn't that good. If they don't fix it. I'm sure Michael bring it up to someone that that is a possibility that that is a positive. I'm not sure fifty fifty that ill mentioned it twenty five thirty five. It's not a solid bed. It kind of green. I'm doing great, Tony. How about you guys? I put the heat up pretty high. So we're doing pretty good because the thermostat hits seventy five, Dan. Seventy two over here. It's pretty accurate in this control room lying. Yeah. No. That's just that's just for show. Yeah. Yeah. Are you going to show show house? And you know, it's the things that set. Not supposed to use it. But it's kind of like the Knicks draft picks which show right? Don't really don't that means but system show. Yeah. You can't pass on a draft pick somebody, right? Tony, tony. I mean, honestly would not trade went down with porzingus. Everyone was jumping to conclusions. Didn't get anything back on blah, blah, blah, blah. But it really all depends on what happens with the draft up. And if they're smart enough, if they don't sign guys like Durant. They don't sign guys like Irving. Don't just give them max deal. I remember my colleague a max deal while back. Yeah. What does he done for for nothing? You don't need that you you don't you? Don't overpay to say see we got a superstar just because you gave them superstar money. But we know you know, what he is. Right. Who I was just twenty and all of a sudden, he's averaging thirty doesn't work like pulled out as long as possibly can just try to rebuild as best. You can. Yes. It's it's it's it's a process. I guess that is building a house and put a foundation, and it's nothing to look at. And and and and that's fine. Because you know what? Nobody cares because guess what the guard cells out almost every game. Anyway. Yeah. So what does that really gonna affect well people, stay home? It's the way it is you go people are going to watch the other teams superstar wonder T one with you could play here. That's all. But that's still shocked to watch that other superstar. They'll be okay. Let's go I six who are they who are they playing right? That's the thing. Nick minimum Mets thing who they play in the plane. Ooh. Okay. Kershaw's and tell us watch him, absolutely. Strike at a bunch of guys to Andrea. And then we could leave by the seventh inning and you'll get home early. Eight seven seven three thousand seven sixty six sixty six let's go to Mardian Faulk rhythm mardi you're on the fan. Hey, tony. Hey, what's going on? Hey, don. I I have to totally agree with you on your your statement before about the game tomorrow. I could see a high scoring game. I could also see a game where. Scoring as many points. In because up to. Quarterback of Los Angeles. Bill Belichick span there. I think the patriots have a chip on her shoulder, you know, and I just can't see you know, and most of the super bowl's almost all the same bananas have been very close game. I have a feeling that this is going to go in the opposite direction. I hope not because I'm not really a fan of either team. But I'm looking for entertaining me, you know, that's a good point. If you're not a fan, you just want to be entertained. Because if it was it was the pats in the Rams in the middle of the season game three it'd be like, okay. If we if you had access to it you might watch SuperBowl probably get to about two and a half quarters. And then I'd be or a quarter and a half excuse me. And I'd be asleep on my recliner. Yup. What Tony not to get off topic? I heard you mentioned I only called station twice. I've I've been listening since. Nineteen eighty something. Who are the toll collector jury? Okay. So that was my payment. And I didn't hear you say you're so went to rolling university. Yeah. He was there for a little while. I was a soccer player there, man. He was I wanted. I thought he was going to play sports when he got down there. But it just didn't work out. He didn't wanna do it. Anyway. Yeah. Yeah. Now state school as I went there in God. In the early eighties. And the soccer team was saying, I'm from Kearney? Harrison, the jurors, okay. Originally referred? That's that's like soccer town USA. Yeah. It was I thought I went from like the metropolitan area. I thought I was living in North Carolina. Okay. When I first went down there because there was nothing. Yeah. I mean, I I saw pictures what it looked like. And now it's all built up like a little town. Yep. My dad was the only one in new that the door, and again, I hate to get off topic. Because I know I'm sure yellow let's say how course online that the the meeting. Between Khrushchev and Lyndon Johnson with that it was a glass borough state when they glassberg glass borough that was it used to be the name of it that it was glass prostate glass vile, but where they actually met with Holly Bush, okay? And it was a meeting. I spoke one night previous. And we spoke about Jerry Lucas. Yes. Remembering the what was able to to pull pages out of the dictionary? And. Every site. Wasn't it also was the phone book? Also, fault exactly mistake, and I apologize. All right. Yeah. He did he didn't a lot of a had a great memory and take so much for the call. Let's go to Mike and Tom vivid. Mike you're on the fan. Tony how you doing? All right, man. How are you? I'm doing good. I'm your age. I probably logged in listening WFAN morale within whatever one. And I gotta tell you one of the most incredible. I wanted to make this call to you for minimum ten years to tell you what happened on your show that night, you're going to know very quickly. What I'm talking about? Because I'm sure when you I'm sure you've heard it a million times. I watch all the seasons of twenty four, and you know. Goni I used to listen. And I said why is Tony telling people you're gonna get a guy on there? Who's gonna you know, just mess it up, and I'm listening show when I get that guy who talked real flow. Tony how you doing? I'm going. Oh, how anybody get rid of this guy? Something bad is happening. And you sit the first thing you said to them look don't spoil it. I didn't watch it. It's the finale tonight. And he said something like, don't worry, the Japanese hijacks. The Chinese did it. Yeah. The cia. And it's like, I I could I was like, I couldn't believe it. I don't want to make two other points. Brad. I always wanted to tell you that. And I said, I got it. Now, did you ban that guy from you know, he just never called again? I don't know what happened. I never heard. And if I thought act I in person, I tell you I would have ridiculed him you all like, why would you do that? The guy that was his great pleasure in life. That was probably the high point of there's life get to your point where we go. Okay. What I wanted to say is. And I had I was really on hold. I wonder if some of the Super Bowl, but I I thought of the fight would Adrian Brodie. I gotta brunette up real quick. If you can I know real quick, okay? I sorta fight last week. And after the fight hearing grown at talk about how they want. Everybody knows. I won that fight. Like was he in the fight? He got destroyed. He was he was greasy. Oh, yeah. It was. It was no no question. No comment. Attitude, and I liked the way what's his name handled? It back in interviews, Jim gray, Jim gray. Yeah. He handled because look we could do the civilly and it really went nuts. But I mean does he have I guess he won't listen to anybody? He's in denial. You know, he's never lost. He always wins. And here's my Super Bowl question. You ready? Yep. Okay. The big play. The Wally only give you a hypothetical. Let's say Roger Goodell is sitting in the stands, and I don't think he wasn't at that game. I think he was knowing on game can't city. Let's say Goodell was sitting in the audience and while the VM broke to discuss it. He's still a replay like a secret replay. Let's say he just interjected and overturned the call right then and there, and you know, you think he would be a hero today. And finally be accepted. If he did something crazy like that. I'm just curious what you would think. I I don't think. So because I don't think he has the power to do that. You know, you just can't come down from the commission, boxers say, wait a minute that's wrong. And I'm changing it because that's that's that's what they have the referees for if he if he attempted to do it in a reference told, no you can't do it. But it's that's not the Commissioner's gig is just not going to do that. It's it's women. Nice. If he could have done that like, wait a minute stop this. But that's why they're going to have this the committee meetings and try and change things. And I think you're going to have more and more television involved. We'll come back with your calls all the us at type a second. But we'll talk to Brian Mahoney Associated Press get his inside of what happened with this week. It Madison Square Garden. We'll be right back. Oh, hi there. Al dukes here from the boomer and geo show it is freezing cold outside today and probably will be again tomorrow..

"Google getting you'd be locked into the band that. We'll talk a little baseball. Understand what they're doing jets. They're going to defend four. Now, you gotta go find some players net at five hundred. Nice win over brackets things. And fifty eight point three pasty become anywhere else. Joe in Manhattan. Joe what's going on? Johnny Johnny, Tony. How are you? I'm doing. All right, man. How are you? Oh life is good listening to your show. Life is good. I appreciate it. Well, I I wanna talk a little baseball here. It is. Even analysts even some media, folks. Some different people talking about how the Mets should be signing price offer when they just Voisin got rich. Jay, Bruce as too much of an outfield problems too much of a cluster situation. Anyhow. Thinking about it. About maybe. And regardless if he wants to play shortstop and not get a guy like that. They're about a hundred and forty one million frankly, it's an insult. The Mets fans to have guys traded in the last couple of years old. He's relief pitchers. Five six seven eight nine ten true spits in all sorts of other relief pitchers, and you can't have that guy. Those guys step up you fade. Jerry's familiar ten million Ukraine discuss temple you. You're lacking. The stars the stars. Garlic Machado base helps guy like Peter Lonzo develop. And I just don't understand how the priorities not the airfield media. Supporting even the idea price offer when they have a bunch of outfielder may just alleviated that problem to begin with. I don't understand all was the I still I would have kicked the tires on it. Just find out what the deal is. You talked to Bryce Harper and anything or you know, we want ten years and three hundred million. Okay. Thank you. We will. But but the not even participate to find out you may maybe there's something they could have gotten like. They still have a problem with the fan base if they had signed with charter or Harper, it's a buzz and people buy tickets, and they'll come, but, you know, you'll giving us lower your giving us giving us pieces, which is okay. But is there any other than the Graham, maybe Syndergaard? Is you want to rush to the stadium and go watch play? Well, let me ask you question. How am I reading articles last year to that? They're actually getting colds on the tariffs unless that's fake news strategy, come in house match from J Harwich, whoever and our calls on the garrisons made a glass, and they haven't stopped that contract. Get I don't get it as a fan. Now, I think there's this. I still like him. That's the thing if everybody if if to say it's healthy for the Yankees. Let's say they'll Machado, and he's he's he's he stays healthy until DD shows up. You might put up some nice numbers if he stays healthy, if lagaras stays healthy, we know what kind of defensive players, I think he can hit and he'll be fine. But it's like great bird. If he stays healthy. I think he's gotta swing for forty home runs. But the way he played the way keeps getting hurt. He hit forty home runs and five years, but because you have that potential. That's why they keep you. You you get frustrated like remember, Nick Johnson. I mean, good luck. Could he hit anybody sneezing break a finger or hurt his back or something? And there's always something serious. I think it's like. The Mets just given pieces and said, okay. But where's where's the where's the big knockout that we're looking for? Where's that guy? That's gonna make people come to the stadium that person that's gonna make them come to stay everyday in. No. I don't Machado was the perfect fit for the for the Mets. They didn't do it. Harper would have been like, oh my God. Where do I where do I buy his jersey? I mean, those guys would generate so much income. From this people sitting in the stands buying the jerseys and all that kind of stuff. I just don't see that nine make. They're not very good businessman 'cause it's it's if you build it, they will come is not will will spend. If you come doesn't work like that. Let's go to Oren in western Armenia on the fan. Hey, what's up? Tony. A big fan. Thank you. How you doing man? Well, good. Well, I want to start. I want to let you know, a friend of mine, actually, lows you talk. It's only pays to work for. Thank crazy way dog. I figured they would ask you. Oh, man. I was talking about the also basketball to house the the files normally will be in about. For the four would be in a box to was basically the people that shoot threes and one would actually orchestrate office and stuff now every game like all star game. You know, and it's not even fun. I think they play it to the millennials because they. Unfortunately, they they short attention span. So everybody gets in love with the with the three stuff. And I just wanted to talk to you only paid and one more thing before I go out there outdoors growing up with Julian who the hawk. Yep. It was good. All right. Well, I appreciate it. If if a big man left the box back in the day where are you going? But you know, well, this week could shoot a nice jump shot from the topic. But you know, I never saw him shoot from where Jerry Lucas shot from Jerry, Lucas you. I think Jerry Lucas marriage that they were playing today. Good lord. It's like and Lucas was a guy that average twenty but he was pulling out like sixteen seventeen rebounds. So he he'd go outside. But then on the other end, you know, he'd go down there. And and and he'd be banging. But these guys it's it's. I'm sure of a six foot ten inch guy walks into a high school gym is a freshman. The first thing that coach is going to say is let me see a jump shot. Let's face it. If you're six ten freshman is who you're going to dominate because nobody can put the hand in the face. But I bet you both of these guys when they come to high school they can handle the ball, and they can shoot because everybody wants to be mad. You know, Magic Johnson. Can do it in six eight. Why I gotta play gotta play center. Why you gotta play forward. I'm going to be a guard. I want to handle the ball. I want to shoot all the time. I want to be the next teams harden because he the suits all day. To Harry in Brooklyn Harry on the fan. Good morning, Tony. How are you? All right, man. How you doing? Okay. So when you just mentioned Willis Reed, I go back a few years myself. I remember those days. Knicks had a great team smart excuse me Cy smart team. Oh, yeah. Bradley Buscher and all those other guys run ro reach sure a great team. You know, something else is like when you establish positions. Like read was the center of the Bush was the power forward and Bradley was a small for. But the guards whether it was Fraser and Barnett or Frazier Munro or Monroe in Barnet, they wasn't a one or two they both could shoot a bulk could handle the ball. They both bring the ball up. There wasn't a wasn't a shooting guard. It was they were all student were all point guards. They did everything. Right. They were they were very talented. I mean to Bush who is great on defense. Dollar Bill Bradley could pop in anytime day, you know, they were great. But what I want to talk about. I was walking, you know, Brooklyn marine park. I was I was right outside marine park. I was walking. And I see this guy. He will familiar. I walked over the woman. I said, aren't you? Pistol Pete marriage. He said, yes. I said what are you doing in this neighborhood? What are you doing here in Brooklyn? You know, I think he used to play for the nets, right? Now, no land. Oh, no, he the hawks. And then. New orleans. Okay. He he'd never played some the nets now. Okay. Anyway, I thought I heard somebody mentioned something about that. But anyway, I remember him watching him. He had the quickest release. I've ever seen a basketball player have an accurate. It would go in. Did. He did he say what was he doing out there? Yeah. I know I said to him. I said what? Are you doing here? Marine very pot. He was walking a little dog. You know? No, I'm visiting some relatives. Okay. I said, oh, all right. Then he was going back home. Look out. What's what state? It was. He lived in Louisiana. I know he was he was Atlanta. Then he was with New Orleans and then went to Utah for short while and they moved to Boston for the last year. You know, you mentioned Utah. I think maybe he was going back to Utah. But anyway, whatever or maybe it wasn't always. Yeah. But whatever it was he was such a humble person and such a gentleman had a nice smile. You know what I mean? He was a real genuine humble person. Hey complain. Oh, could he play? Oh, yeah. Like, I said he has a fish this release. I've ever seen on a play at even till this day. But but he was he was he impressed me more as a human being as a basketball player. And that's what I remember him for. I hadn't heard about him in years. And then one day I'm watching the game on TV and outsor- mentioned his name. I turn up the volume to listen close. And he says he passed away from cancer. I never knew that, you know. Yeah. I it's a shame. You know, God takes over a good people and leaves the son of you know, what behind Sexto aggravate us. Yeah. You probably near the point guard up there. Yeah. Yeah. He probably is he probably, but he was such a nice person, you know, one of the nicest people I've ever met. Know he wasn't looking to run away or walk away. From me didn't give brush me off. Right each you know, stood there and talk with me. Give me a little, you know, what he was doing and everything, and I was very impressed with the gentleman. I really was nice. I've met a lot of celebrities actors actresses I worked out in a gym wolves Frazier used to work out in I met, Steve Garvey. There was a lot of people either sports figures or celebrities I've met through my years, I'm no youngster, and and he was one of the nicest ones. I'll always remember, right Harry. Thanks latman. Appreciate it. Okay. Tony. You have a nice night two to seventeen the back with your calls after this. State farm..

"Of sports. Sure security clearance on basis. Things one. All right Bill. So the Houston Rockets have played well of late winning thirteen of their last seventeen games they've done. So without two of their best players, Chris Paul and Eric Gordon while the team received some additional bad injury news today as ESPN's agent reports Senator clink Capella will miss the next four to six weeks with ligament damage to his right thumb Capellas is averaging seventeen point six points twelve point six rebounds in nearly two plots of game this year after signing a five year eighty million dollar contract extension this summer. I mean, this rockets team is just the most bizarre and interesting squad. And they keep finding new ways to test. The greatness of James harden. I I will say this, and that is a huge huge law. I mean, they have just been riddled with injuries and hardens been amazing last night hardened tied. Kobe Bryant for the most consecutive thirty point. Games in the history of the NBA while also going one for seventeen from the three point line. The worst three point percentage in the history of the NBA from three point line. Minimum. Fifteen attempts is blocked. That's a real make sample. The real big window. And to me. The takeaway is the guy is trying to do too much. And this certainly is not going to help number two. It was quite the weekend for Ben Simmons and the Sixers in yesterday's one. Eight two one five win over the Knicks Simmons scored twenty points grabbed twenty two rebounds, nine assists. Only four other players in NBA history have had that many points rebounds and assists in the regular season game at Madison Square Garden. Those players are Elgin Baylor Bill Russell will Chamberlain and Jerry Lucas this came just two days after Simmons had these critical words for the team after one twenty three to one twenty one loss at hawks on Friday. Physicality. I.

"And shoot those Lucas bombs from you know, the top of the key. Now, they didn't have the three pointer back, then good Lord. I mean, Lucas was shooting from Steph curry range back then, and he would get Wilt Chamberlain away from the, you know, the backboard, and we'll have to come out a little bit near the the foul line at least and Lucas would bring him out. And then the Knicks were able to grab some offense of boards and that helped him get those two titles back in sixty nine seventy seventy three seventy four. So I do remember Jerry Lucas and enjoyed watching him play. Again, great Ohio State Buckeye, and they add I believe Honda was the six man on that squadron. What is six man, I know Havlicek. Made a nice career in the NBA as well and established himself at Ohio State. So a lot of good talented come out of Ohio State in that era that time back also in the state of Ohio, we add Oscar Robertson university of Cincinnati. So there was a lot of talent being played in the state of Ohio basketball during my time. There you go and Brady cannon with us. Of course, big warrior's fan and vk one thing you can say you're warriors have taken that three point shot to another level with curry and Thompson. Yeah. It's made it really fun to watch. I love the warriors brand of basketball. And I know there's a lot of warriors haters out there because you know, it's easy to hate the champion the Yankees the patriots. What have you? But I really think they play a beautiful game of basketball. And and I love the personalities on the team to I think Steve Kerr's a great guy. I don't really think there's any jerks on the team a lot of people, you know, Draymond green acts that way sometimes. But I think for the most part, they're a good club. And and a bunch of good guys. And and I really liked the way they play the sport. And it's been announced speculated, I guess that boogie cousins will be back on the eighteenth of January. It'll be really interesting to see how he fits into that team. And you know, if he's going to make them that much better. There you go. And now we've got tons of scores on the rich badgen Finley Toyota, out-of-town scoreboard that will get to do that. Now, we're number two. We'll go over the complete scoreboard. We'll go over some futures for tomorrow. But we're going to get into the NFL first and foremost because we do have playoffs coming up. And then Nick Bogdanovich joins us at the bottom of the hour. And then add? Rank from the NFL network will join us at about nine zero five so plenty of NFL football talk and Marc Lawrence three in the NFL playoffs last week. Mark just taking care of business. Let me just throw back one question though, as far as the college football now because Sabin in that Bama team they've been up on that pedestal for so long and now Sweeney's taken two out of three from Sabin in the in the biggest game winning two national titles. Is there a changing of the guard with Trevor Lawrence remaining as quarterback there for the Clemson Tigers? I don't necessarily think there's a changing of the guard Alabama is still has their recruits in and we'll continue to recruit they may even play with more of a chip on their shoulder. Now that Clemson took them down a notch. But the bottom line here is we've become accustomed to seeing Clemson and Alabama playing in the college football playoffs. Every year. And I think it's about time we can use that as an excuse to expand or widen the playoffs a little bit. Because while the game can be exciting. The bottom line is was a blow out at the same. Two teams have been watching for four years in a row. I think we need to change in the college football playoff format. You know, Mark you brought it up in your right up in your newsletter this past week at playbook dot com, people should really subscribe to that newsletter. It's great information and with his hot as you've been going as of late. It's very valuable. You mentioned that you know, it's back and forth revenge for these two teams it was revenge for Sabin and Alabama when they beat Clemson semifinals lashed year. And of course, this was revenge for Clemson this year, and obviously it'll be revenge for Sabin next year, and you know, off of the hands of a real blow out to and I think many people would argue when you look at these rosters Alabama should be a lot better than Clemson not a lot. I mean, Trevor Lawrence goes a long way, but their roster is really deep for next year. I think they're going to be better than they were this year. Whereas Clemson is going to lose some players to the NFL draft as well, Alabama. But I think it will affect the Tigers more than it will the crimson tide. It possibly will Brady understand what you're saying. They're going to be hit harder with losses. This year. Then we'll Alabama. But I think when Alabama needs to do is they need to do a better job defensively with their schemes they they had a first year defensive coordinator he was a former co defensive coordinator or on the defensive stamping Nixon but opted to elevate him. And it really really would. They were overwhelmed. You could just see it in the players. They were looking like they didn't know what they were doing on defense. And you look at their last three games. I think the proof is in the pudding. They allowed season-worst yards in each of the last three games of the season. And that was all against good quality opposition. And they'd got into the playoffs by playing a relatively soft schedule. And it ended up biting them in the end. And I think you're going to end up seeing Nick Sabin really fortifying the defense Brent Venables and Clemson held a huge edge NFL ballgame defensively. Yeah. Brent venables. Boy, I'll tell you talk about a guy. That's dialed in anyone who when it was sixteen fourteen. Bama venables. They they call that time out and Venables just laying into the guys Sweeney's come.

Sometimes you look in some losses are better than others Mark down here in south Florida. That's exactly how people felt when they watch Nick Sabin go down because there's not a lot of love. Obviously for him in the Miami area here. And like you say Kennedy a lot of people really kind of felt good about watching next. David turn humble all of a sudden a football game. There you go Mark. There you go, and I really enjoy watching Jerry Lucas when he went over and helped out Willis Reed in the next because read would be the guy that was down low and getting up there in years and Lucas was kinda come out there red Holzman put him out there.
