"League baseball games or all Star games that we see and joining us. Now I heard media's Gerry Bell, who lives in Denver to talk more about that, and the game itself and the festivities tonight. Very welcome. And thanks for being with me, Uh, pleasure to be with you. Why? I tell you the move from what is traditionally a conservative organization. Major League baseball jumping into the I guess, progressive way of thinking. When Georgia legislatures passed the list different laws and and tightening up in order to secure more transparent and I guess less potential for cheating and fraud in the elections. And all of a sudden people are up in arms over that. So Major League Baseball even jumped in the political arena and said, Well, fine. If you're gonna do that, we'll just move out of Atlanta. Uh, what's the feeling in Denver on the political angle of this whole thing? Well, you know, I think the feeling in Denver is that this opportunity became available to get the All Star game and Denver was already preparing bids for future years. And so they jumped into the fray along with a lot of other cities. To say the Major league Baseball will come here and as it turned out, the Colorado Rockies were on the road this last week, so it gave them a lot of time to stage the game and do all the things that needed to do. Um, uh, Denver is on the political side of it. Colorado has very, um, liberal voting laws. Everyone, um it was registered to vote is mailed a ballot, um, for elections, and we conduct our elections of by mail in ballots. And, uh, so and we also have dropped boxes and things like that, So it's a very, very wide open way to get participation. Robotic. Certainly that played into the role of getting the game. Really it was that Denver had already had planned how to stage a game and, um, it was ready to go on a very short time table to get the game. Major league Baseball usually doesn't jump into politics. Politics, Jerry you were you surprised at this? Where, where people in Denver kind of surprised that politics entered into the game? Yes. Absolutely. I think that you know, people were, um, surprised that that happened. And but once it did, Um then Denver was looking at it as hey. We're coming out of a pandemic are restaurants, Uh, been hit really hard. This is $100 million. You know, money maker for the city of Denver. Having all these fans and activities with MLB going on, so they jumped on it. Yeah, I I certainly understand Denver being more progressive and liberal. I think the world knows that and it's a natural fit. Uh, if that's what you want, as far as how your election process runs its exactly what They were trying to get away with in Georgia and in tightening up that potential for cheating and fraud. And as we went through that whole process, we certainly saw that mail in ballots. Uh, is somewhat questionable at best, but, uh, at Colorado deserts of any evidence of fraud. In our mail and elections. I'm sorry. All the ballots all the ballots. We've not had any fraud, um, that we've seen with male and balloting here in Colorado. And all of the ballots are signature verified. Um So it hasn't really been and issued all Let's talk about the game itself and the festivities leading up home run Derby. Always fun to watch. That is tonight. The game is tomorrow night, describe the feeling there in Denver for the sporting side of this whole thing. Well, I'm going to tell you in Denver because of the mile high altitude when the Rockies play to keep the balls and, uh, human or before the game, and then they bring them out. And that's cut down on the home runs here. If you remember if you go back far enough when Coors Field just started, it was You know, a launching pad for home runs? Um, the interesting thing about the home run Derby tonight is the balls are not being kept in that human work so they should be flying. And, uh, I think the thing that people are really wanting to see is show ahead, Tony. Who already has 32 home runs on the season. I believe, but it is and Just this player that seemed to they used to be so amazing. Um, uh, What can what can he do in that home Run Derby. I think a lot of people registered watch him. And perhaps use even in just to watch him pitch and it all started. Hmm. I'm excited about it, too, And it will be interesting to see and I never knew they kept the baseballs. And a human door like they've got cigars in there right next to the baseballs to keep some of the moisture in there. Yeah, And it's really, you know, cut down on the home runs also, um, raised the height of the fences, particularly and Bostic sort of go out to, um, right center, assuming to travel the furthest in his bulb marked as sort of the the jet stream if you will raise the fences out there, right field. Um But I think you're going to see some man of manners. Shots got out of the park. All right. Very good. Jerry Bell. I heard media's correspondent living in Denver getting ready for the big game tonight. Is the all Stars home Run Derby. I'm looking forward to that one, too, Jerry. Thank you so much. Six 28th. That's what i do like if you open the thing of milk and it's past the expiration date is smell it right and if it smells find that you drink it right your after anyway back back payment that there is a woman who gets it even open. We know what's you don't even have to open it if it if it rattles like a box of marbles mills horrible you just throw it out. I'm never home so that happens sometimes. How horrible when you drink a cup of hot coffee and you poor old experience. It's your last cup of coffee and you say to take a sip of it. What is horrible advice or was it. And then you take a sip and it's disgusting. It really is totally this. Even i would not drink that. Where do you want to go next job. Let's go to sheila calling from rhode. Island she'll hi guys third time caller and related to apparently that's all i may have This is a pretty timely conversation. You're having because. I was looking for something for lunch a couple of hours ago and i rifled through my pantry and i had a stack of cans of tuna and cans had expired some time back in twenty twenty and Who i was just like. I'm not going to take the risk. And i threw in the trash so i did have one. Can that was good. Which i kept so i guess i'm polar opposite of you jared. I guess i'm paranoid. But then listening to the last caller was like should i pull him out of the trash. Or should i send them to you. Jared l. maybe knowing that they're in the trash although if you scrub them off. I share all eat them or they're not federal standards. I mean does every company. I should know this every company to decide what phony scam like date. They should put on their projects. Is that sell by date on. you know. it's the sniff and scratch test. That i mean if i want bread i want to really fresh homemade loaf. Eat dark rye. And i going anywhere to buy. That stuff is like disappointment general array. How long has turtle meat supposed to last. I assume seventy years is beyond. Its normal shelf life. Well if the candidate has been over thirty years get probably that's a good criterion to apply if the person that can that has been dead for thirty years. I think that's i could live by that right. Thank you for contributing to your turtle meat. No i've never had turtle soup. I've had turtle soup. Hurricane Season Will Be Above Average, NOAA Warns

"Hurricane season is coming and federal forecasters are predicting that there will be between six and ten hurricanes in the Atlantic this year. That's above average Jerry. Bell is the lead Hurricane Forecaster at the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. The Twenty Twenty Atlantic. Hurricane season is expected to be busy one. Npr's Rebecca Hersher reports. If the forecast turns out to be correct. This will be the fifth year in a row with above average hurricane activity in the Atlantic. That's the most consecutive years ever recorded bell says we're expecting yet another above normal season and now is the time to make sure that you're getting prepared. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is asking state and local governments to consider issuing evacuation orders earlier than they would have in the past in order to give people more time to safely leave their homes while maintaining as much social distance as possible. Carlos CASTILLO OF FEMA says Americans in hurricane prone areas should also pack different supplies than they would have be prepared to take cleaning items with you like so panna tiger disinfecting wipes or general household cleaning supplies to disinfect surfaces. You may touch regularly. Fema is also urging people to stay with family or friends or in hotels rather than in shelters if they can forecaster Jerry. Bell says the main reason for the large number of storms in the forecast is phenomenon called the Atlantic multi. Takeo Oscillation basically the wind temperatures in the Atlantic have been really good for making strong hurricanes since about nineteen ninety five that will probably change in the next few years as normal climate fluctuations happen that's separate from manmade climate change but climate change is making the storms that do form more damaging for one thing bell says sea levels are rising sea levels mean more storm on Dacian as a hurricanes approaching and warmer air and water mean that hurricanes are more likely to drop catastrophic amounts of rain. When they make landfall think hurricane harvey in two thousand Seventeen or Hurricane Florence in twenty eighteen and he says rain and storm surge affect more people than they used to our coastlines. Were built up tremendously over the last several decades so that there's potentially many more millions of people in harm's way every time a hurricane threat together normal climate variability plus the effects of human caused climate change plus the pandemic add up to a potentially deadly summer and fall hurricane season officially begins on June first and runs until November first Rebecca Hersher NPR needs.

"Kelley federal storm. Forecasters say this year's Atlantic hurricane season will be near normal, as NPR's Rebecca hersher reports that still means a lot of potentially damaging storms. Federal hurricane forecasters are predicting between nine and fifteen named storms this year that includes tropical storms to four of those will become so called major hurricanes, which means wind speeds capable of tearing the roof off a house. So, yeah, Jerry bell of the National Hurricane Center says, don't be fooled by the term normal nine to fifteen named storms is a lot four to eight hurricanes is a lot to the four major hurricanes is a lot. So the key messages were expecting a near normal season. But regardless, that's a lot of activity you need to start getting prepared for the hurricane season, now at a press conference today he and other federal weather officials repeated that warning over and over be prepared. It's a reaction to two years in a row of above average damage from hurricanes hundreds of billions of dollars hundreds of thousands of homes
