"That's a whole other one. All right. So Tyler, this is such a great book, by the way, I encourage everybody to run out and buy it. And if you know Tyler, if you know his writing, I mean, he's done stuff on some of the grittiest players in the NFL, Richie and cognito, like the full backs of the world, the NFL's like toughness underbelly. I feel like he's like a doctoral student on. So I would say if there's ever a perfect marriage of subject and subject matter, it's this book, but we're gonna throw some tight ends at Utah, 'cause this is what this book is all about and you gotta tell us some of the coolest shit about these guys. That's what we wanna hear. You get me, Connor. You get my football soul. Not upset it better myself. Thank you so much. You're right, throwing, throwing the bush lattes back with Andy janovich or, you know, we went to your boy, Wyatt teller's whisky bar, go along, so it just seemed right. The tight end, you gotta do it all. It's the purity of the sport. It's but we love about football. So this cross country to hanging out with dicka and the whole gang man. It's been a hell of a ride. So thank you. Let's let it riff, man. I'm ready when you are. Connor, do you want to go first? We're just gonna, so what we're gonna do, we're just gonna throw out tight on names. Maybe in the book, maybe not. And you'll just have to give us, you gotta give us something. We said in the pre show, anecdote is great, but if you wanna give us like the second best anecdote so that people will go read the book for the best anecdote. You can do that too. I like it. I'll try to think on my feet. So it's good to know it's not like rapid fire. There's not a shot clock. So if something comes to mind, or is it, you wanna go in and see? You tell me. Okay. This is gonna say, Gary might throw the Chappelle show wrap it up box on here, on you. I don't know. I'm gonna go out of here. What are those Gary? Because I'm gonna go out of order because one of these, one of these players is very near and dear to my heart. And I actually got my second kiss wearing the Jersey of this person. Isn't that wild? Wow. I remember. That is. All right. It's worth this Jersey at your wedding too. Not where anyone can see it. So all right, and I read there's an excerpt of this in the New York Post too, which is really great, but Jeremy shockey is the guy to me that I think people of a certain age just associate. I mean, there was that great. Remember the Sports Illustrated article about him where he was doing crunches in his room and vomiting and like he's just like a complete and total wackadoo, but what can you tell me about Jeremy shocky because I just love the idea that you can go to a bar one day and there's Jeremy shockey, like and he's just hanging out and looking terrifying. If you're gonna talk to Jeremy shockey for a book on the great American tight end, you better do it at yard house down in Miami Beach. His bar, his territory, you know, throwing a drink or two or three back and just hearing. All the crazy stuff. I mean, I don't know where you would even begin. I mean, we could talk about bar fights, you know, as a high school senior, a dude throws a bottle at him. He kind of reenacted the whole scene when we were talking. He just ducked his head and the bottle wizz over his head and he avoided it like the matrix. And he said the guy came after him next and then Jeremy shockey just beat the ever loving piss out of this guy. I mean, he's in high school still. This guy's older than him and Jerry's reenacted it. Like one shot, boom, broke his face. And if I remember correctly, his victim to get his face fixed to get medical care and the nurse who greeted him was actually Jeremy shaky's mom. So she's like covering up her name so that I wouldn't connect. So I said, he couldn't believe that I've never been in a fight. Like that's how we started the conference. You've ever been in a fight. He was just incredulous. How could you never have gotten into a fight? But he's still at it, you know, not necessarily in the states because of litigation and whatnot. But down in Brazil, his presence is known. He's a world traveler. I feel like Jeremy shock, what people should really take is he lived hard, he partied hard. I mean, he just lived like there was no tomorrow and I think that those I mean at the U from the U to the Giants, sure. You know, when he's getting into fights with Ed Reed, he's bringing the swag back. Like it was contagious. He really was at the at the eye of the storm kind of bringing that program back. And everybody loved him for it. The coaches loved it when he just stirred up and get into these fights. Same thing with the Giants. Jim fossil loved it. I mean, day one, training camp practice one after he ends his holdout, him and Brandon shore are just rolling around the cafeteria in front of make a wish kids there to just be beating each other up. He doesn't want to go through the elementary, like rookie hazing, where you have to recite your fight song and say you're signing bonus. He didn't have enough energy for shorts liking and called him be short and that was one too many B shorts so they went at it and I think that that's there's a lot of similarities by the way not to get off track between like Mike Ditka and Jeremy shaki where they both had to kind of draw the line in the sand like this is how far I'll go. Like I'm at the top of the food chain don't mess with me. I'm seeking vengeance if you do take a cheap shot at me or any of my teammates. It's very primitive. And lo and behold, there's a kid here in Buffalo Rob Gronkowski, who's looking up to Jeremy shockey. And basically kind of took this model, you know, shoved it into a cannon, lit the fuse and became the greatest tight end ever, but I just feel like what kind of gets lost and people will figure it out when they read that chapter in the blood and guts. Yeah, he partied hard. He hooked up with a lot of girls. Didn't really, you know, no girlfriends and you're probably not staying for breakfast because he's got things to do. He's got to work out. He's not getting tied down. He said, he said, there's a lot of teammates, you know, talking about all their girl problems and cheating on their wives and creating all this drama. He didn't want any of that. And that's the thing with him. I think we kind of misconstrued it shocking as this party animal who was like unhinged. No, he wasn't tied down. He worked his ass off in a million ways if he did drink if he did go out. He'd almost feel guilty about it and wake up and do, you know, 70 push ups or sit ups or whatever. So I think that, you know, that live like there's no tomorrow but play like there's no tomorrow aspect to Jeremy shocky is what people find really fascinating. You know what's crazy is Gronk did the same thing. Like after he went out with his brothers or did something crazy the night before, the next morning he's doing P 90 X insanity workout. Like they've got like this thing in their brain where they feel guilty almost for having a good time and I think that's kind of what makes some of the greats. Like there's probably a lot of guys that didn't have that aspect. They partied hard, but they didn't really have that shred of guilt. Like, oh my God, okay, now I gotta run through a wall the next day. By the way, that make a wish is awesome. That's the best part. I want to go to the Giants facility that I want to see a brawl while I'm there. I was gonna say, if I delivered, if make a wish came to me, I'd be like, yeah, I want to see like, you know, it's like, okay, cute, you want to go to eagles practice. It's like, no, I want to see Nick Siri and Shane steichen fight each other in the practice feeling or something like that. Like I want to see something totally wild. All right, Gary, you get a tight end now. Well, I'm gonna, I'm gonna fly right by Gronk. Maybe we'll get to Gronk later. I'm gonna ask about toning Gonzalez who I think in a lot of people's minds, especially with his career on TV now, is probably a little more of a, you know, you'd say polished, maybe mainstream appeal to him. That's

"But if you are going to officiate Tom Brady in this fashion, and I understand that because he's 45 years old, he is fragile and brittle, like the rest of us 40 something year olds. And if he gets hurt, the bucks become utterly unwatchable, like for entertainment and enjoyment purposes for not only their fans, but anyone who watches football, it's just, it's a bad thing all around. However, if you're going to officiate Tom Brady this way, you also have to do it on the other side and basically play with the old 90s in the grasp rules where if a pass rusher gets two hands on him, that's it. You just got to blow a dead because if you're saying he can't, you know, you don't want him tackled, you don't want him thrown around or slammed to the ground and even the lightest manner. You also have to say, okay, well, we're just gonna blow it dead. Right. And I don't know. Minus a world where like maybe if Tom Brady becomes part owner of the dolphins, he goes to competition committee and then he passes a rule that he's not allowed to be tackled at all and that he just gets to continue playing quarterback for the rest of his days, which should represent kind of an interesting turn. In the NFL and where it's going and how many other quarterbacks do you give that to? Does Drew Brees unretire Dan Marino? I don't know. The possibilities are endless at that point. If the rule is in place where maybe you can't tackle someone who's older than 45, do you think that that would be kind of a fun rule, right? Yeah. You get, I don't want to make it too hand touch, but there's got to be some sort of technology where it's like, it's two hand touch technology. But there has to be a certain amount of force behind the touches for it to really count. Like it's not you can't really like tag them with your fingertips as you're running by, but you know, if you really like grasping, like that's it, blow it dead. Would there be any, so let's say that's the rule. You're not allowed to tackle anybody that's over older than 45. But then the 45 year old is not allowed to leave the pocket, right? Would that be the, and then in that case, or the 45 year old is not allowed to advance the ball beyond the place where they get it, right? So that way you can do some receivers and you can do some other stuff. Would there be any other 45 year old that you would want back in the NFL? With that? If you're saying you can't advance, see, I think I would disagree with that rule. I would shout you down at the competition committee meeting. 45. So you would allow a 48 year old Jeremy shockey to come back and you get him the ball in a tight end seam. And you're going to allow him to just continue moving the ball forward in this fictional scenario. But he's tackled. He's tackled if I'm well, I'm talking about my rule with the sensors, right? Okay. With the sensors that measure your grip. If you're saying just they can't be tackled like they can't be sacked either in any way. Yeah, that's a thing then. Boy, who would you get at that point? I'm trying to think who like really. Dan Marino's too old. Like ten years ago when Dan Marino, right? Yeah. Bring back like Dave Craig or something like that. I don't know why Dave Greg was Dave Craig. Accurate or something? He just played forever. Why not? Why not? Sure. Lions, patriots. Jared Goff against the Patriots. Man, this is a horror story. This was, yes, it was a Bailey zappy win in his first NFL start, and so good on him, but man, what another just annihilation of poor Jared Goff by a Bill Belichick and company here. This was this was a ton of defense, a ton of run game for the Patriots. Stylistically obviously that's how they want to win. And but man, what a bummer for the Lions. I can't believe they're one in four. I know, like this, they're the best one in four team I've ever seen. Yeah. They're the best, most well coached one in four team that I've ever come across. But yeah, this game stunk from the beginning for Jared Goff, he was first drive. He's trying to advance the ball out of he's trying to run the ball out of bounds and then just gets absolutely thrown into a Gatorade table and no one throws the flag and you're just like, oh God, this is gonna be a long night for him. It would be among the weirdest superpowers for Bill Belichick to just have towards the end of his career that he can just only kick the shit out of Jared Goff. That would be pretty cool, right? Just at the very end of this, it's just like he just comes alive for Jared Goff week to just torture this poor man who's just trying to put it together. Just trying to put some W's together. It's gonna be so weird when Belichick resigns and then takes like the Vikings defensive coordinator job. Just a torment Jared Goff again. But yeah, nice win for the Patriots here. Again, I don't think there's a whole lot to read off of Bailey's happy's performance here. The Lions also lost, I think it ended up being 5 defensive backs to injury in this game. They were just, they were, I think, Jared Goff took some reps at cornerback in the second half. They were just running out of players. This is a game that patriots should win handily. And they did 29 nothing. That's a blowout. Yeah. Sort of a regenerative performance for New England and I mean, I don't know what it means in the long term. But just good to see zappy out there slinging it, you know? I mean, does this change your perception about New England in any way, shape or form? I don't know. No. It would have been horrible if they lost. That's all I'll say. But yeah, obviously Bill bubble chick has Jared Goff's number and on top of that. Again, when you were just running out warm bodies in the defensive backfield in the NFL in 2022, you just can't compete at that point. True. Nice reminder, Stevenson game, too. Oh yeah, yep. Dolphins jets. So teddy Bridgewater, this was a bummer. I really wanted to see him operate this mic mcdaniel offense. I wanted to see what he could do here. He ends up getting hit on the first offensive snap for the dolphins. It was a safety, it was intentional grounding, but he does not come back. It was an elbow injury and an abundance of caution with a potential concussion. So Skylar Thompson goes in there. And yeah, you know, good on the jets. They took care of business here. The dolphins did stick around for a while, but in the end the jets just sort of separate themselves and they're sitting at three and two right now. Yeah, I mean, I think that so we'll address teddy Bridgewater first because, you know, I thought it was I don't know, I don't know what we should do, right? Because these are the moments where like, it's almost like the NFL orchestrates it where it's like, okay, you guys are gonna complain about the teddy the two a tongue I love a thing, which we had every right to complain about. And then it's like, okay, more than we're gonna make it like this for a week. And then everyone's gonna complain about it being the opposite way. Yeah. Our former boss Peter king had a quote from some anonymous executive in his column this morning saying that it was overreaction Sunday by the officials and in the concussion department. I mean, I think it's nuts that we're complaining about this. Personally, but I don't know what the right situation is there. You have to overreact after something happens like that to tu a tongue of a little. Like the guy was posturing on the field. His fingers couldn't move, you know? What's the alternative? Like, okay, yeah, you have one game where you have to watch. You can't watch teddy Bridgewater. I'm sorry, you know, that's too bad for you. These are human lives

"Is Braden Gaul filling in for Paul. Honored to be here this week. Hanging out with you guys talking season less than a week away next Monday. We get things started in college football. The way they deserve to be started. Although the big 12, I believe, is getting started right now. Today, tomorrow, I think tomorrow may be in terms of media days across the country. So we are in full swing, talking season starting this week and next. Of course, the SEC in Atlanta coming up next week. The player list has been announced. We'll get to that in just a second. Also, I'd like to know I was arguing with my buddies about favorite towns and uniforms and stadiums in the SEC and I was trying to tell them, no, no, listen, guys, you can't pick your favorite school where you graduated as your favorite. Give me something else you love about the SEC. What are some of the other uniforms and stadiums and towns you enjoy visiting? My answer, auburn. I like LSU's uniforms. I like auburn the town and I like Sanford stadium. It would be my three votes in the SEC. So if you're going to call 855-242-7285, I'd like to know what your favorites are in the SEC that don't have anything to do with your favorite team. It doesn't seem that complicated. That's not your favorite team. The players that are going 7 quarterbacks will be in Atlanta next week. Bryce young, of course, for Alabama, hen and hooker for Tennessee, KJ Jefferson for Arkansas. They will be there next week. Of course, you've also got Mike Wright at Vanderbilt is going to be there, which is some insight into maybe how Clark Lee is feeling about that quarterback battle. You've got Anthony Richardson going for Florida, the quarterback who is only a sophomore, one of only three sophomores that will be in Atlanta next week on media days. I think that is a huge statement of belief by Billy Napier in his star sophomore quarterback to send him to Atlanta on media days to represent the university of Florida. I think that is a bold statement and I think it says a lot about where they are with Richardson because I think he is like, listen, I know we wore number 15 and I know he's had that run past thing. Shades of Tim Tebow and you watch him play even though he's bigger. I just think he is a super freak of an athlete and if he's in Atlanta as a sophomore, to me that says Anthony Richardson is your starting quarterback for the Florida Gators moving forward as if there was any doubt. But I think Billy Napier put all that doubt to rest. Will levis, of course, for Kentucky, gonna be there as well with major expectations around that Kentucky team, new offensive coordinator, Mark stoops, has a great offensive line coming back and a really good defensive line crop of players recruits from 2020 that should be stepping into starting roles to try to reload that defensive line for Kentucky. So I'm fascinated to see that. And of course, the guy that no one talks about. When we rank quarterbacks, when we rank quarterbacks in the SEC or around the country, it seems like we go down the list and we always forget about this guy. And I think he gets a bad rap for being this quote unquote game manager. He's a better athlete than that. You look at his yards per attempt up around ten, 11 yards per attempt as a passer. One of the nation's most efficient players and oh, by the way, a national champion stetson Bennett will be in Atlanta next week as well for the Georgia bulldogs. So I think stetson Bennett just kind of gets lost in the shuffle. Are there still Georgia fans? Here's what's fascinating. Are there still Georgia fans? Like what percentage are there still like 10% of you that's like, yeah, I don't know, maybe JT Daniels could have could have beaten Alabama in Atlanta too. There's still some of you that are worried about that and bothered by that or you guys all just moved along and moved on and said, no, no, no, no. Stetson's our guy. Man, that was unfair for a while, right? Listen, I'll be guilty. I was one of them. I'll put my hand up and be accounted for. I always thought JT Daniels was the mortality player. It should have been starting, blah, blah, blah, blah, feeding the narrative. I was guilty of that. But man, the offense evolved last year for Georgia. So stetson Bennett going to be there. We'll see what the offense does this year because I would argue that Georgia, we know how great the defense is. I think you could argue Georgia has the greatest collection of tight ends. We've ever seen in college football history, and that would include that would include the Miami hurricanes of the early aughts, which would be what, like Kelvin Winslow and Jeremy shockey on the same team. Like that's insane. They have three dudes that are almost as good. I mean, Bowers is a freak. So however Todd monken wants to use those tight ends. Stetson benet will get them the football. And they all do different things, right? Gilbert Washington and Bowers. It's going to be a lot of fun. Georgia's office is going to be a lot of fun. So we'll talk with stetson Bennett coming up next week as well. I thought interesting again, 7 quarterbacks going. I thought it was interesting that Mike leitch decided just to just to pick three graduate seniors only graduate seniors for Mike leech. That's so unbranded. I don't even know what to say. I appreciate that. Will Anderson Jordan battle going to be there for Alabama. Those are two first team all SEC defensive players. At least two guys I'll be voting for next week. Jalen Catalan bumper pool for Arkansas, along with KJ Jefferson that Arkansas team is going to be a very, very hot topic next week. LSU Arkansas, Mississippi state, ulnas, that group of teams in the west is going to be a very hot topic next week. Auburn bringing tank bigsby a star tailback, first team all SEC player, Derek hall, first team all SEC edge rusher for auburn as well. Samuel schenker there the tight end going to go for auburn. So there's a lot of star power.

SEC Atlanta Anthony Richardson stetson Bennett Billy Napier Braden Gaul KJ Jefferson Bryce young Clark Lee auburn JT Daniels Kentucky Georgia Sanford stadium Mark stoops Mike Wright Alabama football LSU

"Is breaking this news and then it kind of became a thing and I think moments like that really had me thinking differently about journalism and I think immediately, especially because I felt like I had so many eyeballs that were paying attention to that tweet or any tweets that I was sending from being on the ground there. It made me think about the responsibility of being a journalist in a different way than I thought about before, because you know, as a newspaper journalist, you have to wait until the next day for the paper to come out. It's not happening in real time in the moment. And I was literally on that ground getting phone calls from news outlets, TV outlets, asking to get me on the phone to provide any kind of context and it was overwhelming, but also dare I say it gave me a bit of an adrenaline rush. And I liked being the person responsible for telling big impactful stories like that in the arts entertainment space. And of course, as these things go, I was laid off after a year at USA Today after running away from the Chicago Tribune. Because I didn't want to be laid off. I was laid off literally after a year at USA Today and I didn't even have a time to think about what I wanted to do next. Thankfully, because at that point, the news of the Emmy win, and had been written about and it was out there. And honestly, the conversation as it was relate to me from different editors or even producers and other outlets. They were like, why would they lay off a woman who has this kind of a vision, you know, who can do this kind of a thing? And honestly, I think it was just the numbers game. They were probably laying out people who had the least amount of seniority because you have to think about severance pay and all of those things, but because those stories were out and because someone Richard prince who covers journalism and journalists wrote about the woman who won the Emmy, the newspaper reporter who won the Emmy was laid off. So I started getting phone calls immediately. And the first phone call I got was from a network. And it was ESPN. And they had the site it's been dot com, but they had a site page two specifically at the time that focused on things off the court off the field, like entertainment doing doings. But page two. You page two, page two, and what was so great about page two in my page to freelance experience is they didn't want me to just write. They wanted me to do video too at times. And I did, in some cases, I traveled the world doing pieces for them. I went to tequila, Mexico with Oscar De La Hoya. I went to Scotland with Jeremy shockey, you know? And I was finding stories at an intersection of sports and entertainment, and I wasn't always writing. I was doing video, which I had not professionally prepared to do. So I was really learning on the job. We're going to take a quick break to hear from our sponsor and we'll be right back. I'm Christina ko associate editor at custom. Digiday medias in-house agency. In this podcast interstitial story sponsored by mountain, we speak with Ali Hari, the company's vice president of marketing, about the creative production side of connected TV and how commercials are ripe for change. Which stands out to me the most is advertising that capitalizes on a cultural moment. That may be something that's happening in the news, something that's happening in pop culture. Whenever you see an advertisement that acknowledges it, it's just inherently more noticeable to reviewer. TV by nature has a slower production cycle. Because of this, many advertisers have begun to explore platforms that allow them to be self sufficient and manage their own production cycles. In order to better respond to cultural moments and hopefully create more effective TV commercials. TV advertising is one of those channels that's not really the quickest to market when it comes to creativity. The production of the creative is certainly going to take a lot of time effort and money. And we've been kind of blown away at the creativity that it's unlocked. A lot of advertisers found themselves being self sufficient with TV advertising the same way that they are with social media. That means quicker speed to market, and then there's measurement with performance a huge focus for CTV advertisers. Ali told us how brand marketers are finding ways to integrate metrics into their creative processes without completely disrupting those processes. The interesting thing about ETV is that despite the fact that it's so performance driven. You know, it's programmatic advertising. You can measure it very similar to all the other performance marketing channels that you have. It shouldn't really change the role of the brand marketer or their creative process. We're not asking brand marketers to completely change the way that they think creatively about TV advertising. We still want really clever ads. But what we think is particularly fascinating as an opportunity for brand marketers is the fact that on the back end of campaigns, you're now empowered with so much more information that you can act on in the way of measurability. Being able to precisely know how many people visited a website, how many people bought a product, which networks showed an ad. These sorts of things are just, they're not metrics that brand marketers are used to. And using this granular data into the creative process shouldn't really, again, unlock some really interesting ideas. With so many channels moving toward personalization, it's no surprise that CTV is falling suit as well. With a difference in production cycles for CTV, it's key that advertisers make the most out of their production shoots, and find ways to strategically personalize their creatives. With personalization, what's great now is that advertisers, they're kind of freed up in a way. You don't need to put all your eggs in that one basket of that one who created running in that one placement. We've seen some advertisers shoot largely the same creative, but leave about 5% of it to be sort of altered based off of the different audiences that they're targeted. It's things like that that really drive great performance. You've been listening to ally Hariri. Vice president of marketing at mountain, our.

Who will be a breakout tight end in 2021 fabs? It has to be Kyle pits, right? It has to. I mean, we're talking about a guy Matt Ryan throwing two. We're talking about a guy who Is being selected as the fifth tight end overall, and he's a rookie, which is bananas. Alright. I mean, you look back to the eighties, okay? And you've had three guys in their rookie seasons. Go over 170 fantasy points. Keith Jackson, Jeremy Shockey and have an anger. Um, right. All in the NFC East. Surprisingly enough, right back, right. So I love the old school stuff. So If he doesn't break out, he's going to be a massive disappointment. And so you've got to put them there. I've got him fifth among tight ends, so I expect him to bust out and be. I set unicorn, right and then John you Smith. And initially I was down on John and Smith because Henry Henry sign with the Patriots, and it seemed like they were going to cancel each other out. But Hunter Hunter has been dealing with an injury, right and John knew Smith looks like he'll at least enter the season as the guy the top tight end in New England. And Matt Jones, right, young, accurate quarterback right young guy who potentially could utilize both James White and John knew Smith as his security blankets in the passing game. Right. So I like Johnny Smith to potentially end up being a top 10 to 12 tight end from a fantasy football perspective. May not be the most consistent guy in the world because they've got a lot of mouths to feed in that offense. But Smith's value is rising up for me. So intrigued to see what that Patriots offense looks like. With Mac Jones this year. Who are your sleepers at the tight end position? I like Gerald Everett and effort is a guy who really never popped in Los Angeles because he was splitting work with Tyler Higbee, but he did leave the ranch tight engine targets last year. Now he's in Seattle. Who's the OC? Shane Waldron, who comes from where Los Angeles right, So there is certainly a connection there. And Pete Carroll in the off season, had said that if there is a guy who's going to break out on this offense, it will be Gerald efforts. So I certainly like him as a late round tight into with upside, no doubt about that. And then cold commit in Chicago the last four or five games in his rookie season, We started to see a little bit more success from a statistical standpoint. Jimmy Graham is still there. Yes. Could that mean potentially losing out on red Zone opportunities? Yes, but you've got Alan Robinson. You've got Darnell Mooney and then Maybe Kolka met could end up being the guy who's 13 targets on that team, so he is certainly worth that late round pick as a tight end to with potential top 15 upside. Does it matter if it's Andy Dalton or Justin Fields at quarterback there in Chicago? It doesn't because I still feel like at the end of the day, he'll be at worst, the third target in that passing game. They did sign Breshad Perriman, but, um, he got cut by the lines. What does that say about Todd Pyramid? So I think, um, it should see maybe not enough targets to be an elite tight end. I don't think he's going to get up to that level, but at least A matchup based starter and maybe somebody who sneaks into the top 12 time now for the busts, and I'm going to start off with Robert Onion now is value certainly is much better now that Aaron Rodgers is going to be under center for the Packers, and we know that right is not going to Jordan Love. Here's the issue I have with onion last year. 59 targets Okay. 52 catches 11 touchdowns like that's bananas efficient. That's crazy. It's not gonna happen again. So I feel like Tanyon. We'll probably see that touchdown total. Maybe. Decreased by five right. So if he has six or seven touchdowns, that's a really good season. For him. I liked onion is more of a low tight end one where last year I mean he was among the top tight ends in fantasy football and also Mentioned Hunter Henry Hunter Henry is a guy who we have always drafted as a top 10 option in the position at least since his rookie campaign and now well the injuries. He's not been durable during his career. John New Smith once again a lot of mouths to feed in New England. Henry stock has dropped to the point where John, who is now being drafted as a high, too, and Henry is being drafted as a low tour high three because of the risk. Can't help a team if they're not on the field. And that seems to be the case too often, and Hunter Henry s stability here. It's availability. That's right. We'll wrap things up. When we return. We're going to look ahead to opening night as we are days away. This is NFL fantasy forecast. If you've got an insurance question, you could talk to a park Ranger. But the only quotes they'd probably give you would be about the beauty of a fallen leaf or ripples in a pond. Not the kind that could save you money on your.

Travis Kelsey Tyler Higbee Aaron Rodgers Theo Harris Pete Carroll Keith Jackson Matt Ryan Andy Dalton Matt Jones Jimmy Graham Shane Waldron Johnny Smith Darnell Mooney Justin Fields Michael Fabiano James White Alan Robinson Gerald Everett Breshad Perriman John New Smith

"Close game with Minnesota, Bro. It's not how it's going down. Alabama would have beat Minnesota about 35 points and been laughing at him for the most part. What we're seeing right now with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Is the best NFL factory we've seen. This side of early two thousand's Miami Remember that Miami team. Where Willis McGahee, he had to come off the bench. Clinton Portis, Najeh Davenport. Andre Johnson's on That team. Jeremy Shockey is on that team. Just guys after guys after guys that went on to have strong NFL careers. That place was an NFL factory. Their practices were probably more competitive than some of the games that they played in. That's what Alabama is doing right now. That's what Nick Saban is doing right now. I'm not going to say that college football is based in Paraty because it's not But we haven't seen one team dominate the landscape for as long and as consistent as Alabama has Sam has been doing this for what a decade. That USC run with Pete Carroll. It's not a decade run. Chip Kelly. The uniforms are great. The offense was great. They didn't do it for a decade. Miami. Larry Coker and Butch Davis did not have that thing going for a decade. Jimmy Johnson didn't have it going for 10 years straight the way that Saban has That place has become an NFL factory. What we've seen today is Not everybody's roster can overcome players going in the league. Alabama's can Things change in Clemson. Things change in Oklahoma. Things change in Ohio State. They haven't really changed in Alabama. And as we sit here, wrapping up The first weekend of college football. It appears to once again be Alabama versus everybody else. And that place has turned into an absolute machine and a factory of talent. Clemson right now is getting barest on television haven't scored. Alabama might have scored again in the game ended an hour ago. The message with her loud and clear today we are not you guys were better than you were more dominant than you. And this run that.

"They like it jon. Gruden always likes the quarterback who's not his quarterback it feels like daniel jones in new york. Boy that one might be the best. One carson wentz in indy. I'm going to say yes. Jared goff in detroit. I'm going to say no. If daniel jones plays well then they then they got to resign him but if he plays average he gets the trubisky treatment. Yeah wow you could probably make a case to say. None of these quarterbacks are going to be with these teams long-term. It doesn't it. "To make sure you don't miss conversations like this one so you have one of the rookies that i feel like people are most excited to see on your team in kyle pits. I just think that he sort of in a tough spot because the expectations for this guy are incredible. I think i saw the over under on yards for him is eight hundred on the season. Which is something only four other tight ends in the history of football have ever done and only one in the last thirty years. I think that was jeremy shockey. What is your advice to kyle pits when everybody just expects him to come in and dominate from day. One it's it's it's become harder than ever to Eliminate the noise. It's just constantly there every everybody look and so you know the the thing you tell them. All the time is is the opinions that matter the people you need to listen to the people in the building. The guys at work with every day. The gosh you're in the hunt west and my expectation is simple for him. You know improve every week. Be a better player. You know like. I mentioned talking about myself my rookie year. Being better player at the end of the year. Then you were at the beginning and I think if he keeps his mind set on that And just tries to find little ways to get better as the year goes on That's a success for him. I'm i'm rooting for him. But i just think that. Like i can't imagine a tight end coming in having seven hundred yards or six hundred yards and people being like. Oh you kinda disappointed. Like i've heard people say the tight end other than quarterback is the toughest transition to make from college to the pros. I wouldn't disagree with that. I think you know you're asked to do so much. You know you have to learn the run game inside out. You've got to learn the different combination calls. All of the different things they have to do in the run game. You have to learn and you have to be willing and physical In what we're asking them to do to to get our run game going and at the same time we're asking you to learn everything that's wide receivers are learning as well and to do that and so you know it's it's a lot. I think you know advice. That i've given him just trying to keep things simple right in and focus on on gross everyday focused on improvement every day. And just keep it really. Keep your focus really narrow And just hammer away at those things and eventually all that stuff is gonna come together. So we're going to have to wait another week now to see you and kyle and obviously everybody. You've got a week off now because there are only three preseason games. What are you doing with yourself. They got us practicing. Don't you worry about that. They wednesday thursday will be going hard. But it'll be a good you know it'll be a good chance for us to get some rest and recover after training camp And get ready to go. Get mentally ready to go for for seventeen weeks or eighteen weeks in seventeen games. Yeah you know then hopefully some football beyond that as well one more question. I wanted to ask you actually about kyle pits. I forgot to to slip this in the second he gets drafted. Do you techs tony gonzales. And be like hey. Can you help our guy out here. One hundred percent. But it wasn't the second after. I put them out. We had a little group tax You know after. I met with college for the first time got throws say man a guy might be good for you and so Yeah those guys were able to connect. Oh so that they've they've they've touched base. That's that's music to falcons fans ears. Yeah you gotta use all your resources so. I'm sure kyle's going to come in now. Play like fifteen years you know. Never miss a game revolutionized position right. It's all set in stone. Well i've told kyle. He's byproduct of tony tony. You mentioned revolutionized the position. We've got players. You know were skill sets like kyle and a bunch of different guys across lee because you know tony forge that passed and You know i feel really fortunate To to kind of have played with guys like that you know be young in my career. Play with one of the trail blazers of that position. And then you know to have guy drafted high later in my career and see what he's capable of it's been it's been really cool. You just give me a seat back as that sent. it's fun it's part of the experience. Wrigley field gers the bleachers. It is fun being seven beers deep and walking down the bleachers. It's exactly the kind of thrills life or death game. bet that. I put my own hands every single saturday. I love it and when it rains in the seats are all wet. And you're trying to climb down them and you slip talking about the orange bowl. Saturday bleh wasn't useless and on rain was useless on urine. I will say the college atmosphere is a lot that a lot. Better the best game. I've ever been to was miami florida state and ken. Dorsey jeremy shockey game. That's the most exciting sporting event. I've ever attended that. Eighty six world series gave six and game. Seven new york metropolitan not metropolitan basketball can get there with intensity and light atmosphere. So does the nfl depending on the game but there are just certain sports that you can always count on the live experience. I mean and it's college football baseball. Those a tough one. It's so exciting on tv and so exciting in person so like which ones baseball basil comes with. The baseball comes with the death as well chuck in there now football right if you don't go to a baseball game though you can't do your own team when they strike out all the good point we're not hitting on the thing that is the reason why. Nfl football and pro basketball is not fun to go to. Its commercial breaks. It's them having to fill three minutes every twelve minutes. Love with with with something to do with in the stadium commercial. Breaks to eddie. But you're in this but you said the atmosphere is better when there is game action right so you couple bad atmosphere. But i think when you're at the game when he doesn't commercial break no you want those breaks at the you do you. Do you want to get a beer. You're running a thirty two year though certainly enough time. There's a pint and then they take a minute break. That's not long enough for me. The worst is extra point. Commercial break kickoff commercial break on tv though. No it sucks at any period trying to do the fun and frills of the they put a football under under a helmet. They put three helmets. They.

"I'll i'll do it. I'll do it. I the most likely buses kyle pits. I don't like it but there have been two tight ends. Since i started playing football twenty three years ago that have scored at least one hundred sixty fantasy points in their rookie season. Bay score one hundred and seventy three and one hundred and seventy one. It was a pair of giants. Jeremy shockey and ingram. Kyle doesn't even play for the giants damrau if he scores hundred and seventy fantasy points this year. You're not quite getting value. You're paying for around four. He needs to have the greatest tight end. Rookie season ever just to justify his. Adp you're not necessarily profiting if he does that. It's just to to be worth what you paid for. That's not the type of bets that you should make and fantasy football. You should not bet on someone needing to break records to justify the cost you're paying for when when do you think that you'd feel okay taking him. Well i'm not taking him until round seven but it does the whole thing is. I might reach form occasionally at the end of round five early round six just to make sure i had some kyle pits if that was an option. It's just never even something to consider. Okay jamie bust. i was gonna say pets. Which pains me. Obviously as a gator. I think it just it just makes the most sense And give me the adp again because all right here we go kelsey. "Get my My research computer screen upgrade your on the old build outs you know yeah. Research tools off the top of drunken brain top of a drug brain which is honestly usually better for you. Like be real over is really not something people experience. No but i mean you've also got i mean. Yeah ken dorsey as a quarterback at cut back and the but the that running back that chart alone still just rose my mind. Bryant mckinnie started at left tackle. He was a longtime minnesota. Viking left tackle all probably wanting. Of course got ed reed other defense over their safety senior year. Jeremy shockey is. You're starting tight end brent. Rome recognize that name. He was a center guard for the lions for a long time thick white with on that roster to who can yup he was the second second strident freshman. There's it's insane. It's insanity couple years before that Ray lewis on rosser so those a string. What was it almost a solid decade or they turn out in venice nfl. Well the management in miami obviously went to. Larry coker mistake. Hey larry are you okay if we pay these players money to come here and he was like please play the players money to come here and he was like thank you and they were like no thank you larry and then they fuck. You won national. Titles that's what helped so okay. So i wanna talk about this because especially with the nfl staffing and we kinda talked about talked about that earlier on the sports report So at the nfl stuff. I know that you you have a little bit of experience around the college. Sports cited so i mean obviously there were different ways. And we can't go into specifics. We don't want anybody getting trouble or anything But there were different ways players players get paid they call it living stipends You know or you know. The benefits are tucked into different other things right but we're getting most of them at a very early age. They started coming from just academic a like dude. I didn't have to do homework high row for like i didn't have to home junior senior high school and not have to do homework because they were just like. Yeah just like just keep him. Eligible and that's in highschool bro in nebraska. Imagine what level this happens at at bigger schools in texas five and stuff like that where these kids are planned do. These kids are getting advantages from a very young age. Start to believe in those advantages and think that they're real all the time. Which does something like. Richard sherman case. Does something to you emotionally right. But there's there's a psychological part with that though light light. Let's head on this. Because you and i have talked about this but it's never been more of a thing and i liked this conversation. You know when when you talk about these players these elite players and this isn't just limited to football this basketball baseball hockey of those kids. That are bred for hockey here. The same thing if you spend all this time during the great all this time. You're you're great when somebody when when when when it all finally starts to slip away. The athletes have have a shelf life like they start to crack because not real right and it's such a huge part of who they are at that point. What i'm saying like because because of these advantages that have been been giving to them and things like that their entire life they think. That's a structural part of who they are as a person right that they played a sport and it and it is to a certain degree It's it it allows people to do all sorts of things like One of the things for me was taking out stressing anxiety things like that. Like in a not even not even like a game just like getting out when you're working out and after you know what i'm saying like practices and stuff like that that physical energy out of you and you feel a lot for one like that's just off the top right and incorporate incorporate that into all of these advantages that you're getting from it and like it's a structural part of who you are at that point especially if you're a professional athlete like that's not just you now that's these networks of people that are. Were lying on how much money that you make. And how much and how much like influence that you have in a community like. There's so is there so let me ask you this so so we understand. These kids are getting paid and someway were college lower even sometimes at the high school level because they wanted at that specific high school because especially the big football areas like down in texas on east coast in some of the rural areas. Especially you know that that that that football team that friday night football team. That's that's money. That's money for school that money for the area because people are spending money at the businesses in alabama. So it is. It is a part of the right it there away. You put these players in the position to succeed without continue. Just hand them everything so that they could be still mentally set up for success after the game. That's have somebody have somebody literally they're like. Who's that who's that old roman emperor that used to have that guy follow him around and the only thing that dude said to him was you are just a man. You are just a man. That's all he said to him because he was an emperor. God like amongst all these people you got to have somebody in your corner. That just does that. It's got to be a hero. You're talking you're not even the best wide receiver in the fucking district row. Like you need to get better like you're not if you're you're not the best leniency. "Because Travis Et en is very versatile, and I love the kid as you mentioned at the top of the segment. Listen, just ask Vince. I mean, some of those bridesmaids were pretty good. You know what I mean? They were pretty good. Um, you know, I love when somebody No matter what league or sport was talking about. I love when somebody comes in, that is, you know, counter to what has been either verbally espoused or schematically. Implemented for years, and they've got a different notion. Now. Chip Kelly was that way. Didn't really work out, though I do think In large part, his NFL tenure is largely underrated. I mean, like he had a couple of decent years he did and games he did you know the whole thing with Riley Cooper went sideways. That was a bad look that lost in points rightfully so, but You know, I think people misremember Chip Kelly was actually producing point being chipped came in with different concepts and different thoughts. And it was interesting, and it seems like Urban Meyer's company with same Different thoughts but the same way of being different and I think that's fun for us, and I think it it forces people to to adapt and you'll get to see just how smart some of these other franchises are on the flight. Yes, adjusting BT I said When we're talking about this in the slack channel, who did I compare him to Sean Payton right. A matchup is he's searching for matchups. Right, John. He would do this with Jeremy Shockey. When Jeremy was, you know, one of those early I got a mismatch. Tight end. You're gonna how you cover him. Put a line back out there. CIA put the safety back there. You have no shot because he's so big. And so urban Meyer is searching for matchup advantages, and that's how great offensive minds are able to take advantage of a changing NFL because it is changing used to never see this. We're running back with, you know, spend a lot of time outside of the backfield. I think we're seeing Maura and Maura and Maura of this, especially as he's running back, coming out of college arm or and more diverse like Travis Ctn is, you know, we want a church it up right? And we want to make it seem so elaborate, but the end of the day in the corps, the corps, you know, message point in the NFL, and from it often support of you is Get your fastest guy getting the ball in space. That's right. Maybe really matter how you doing? We're doing where you line them up. What he did in college. How we gets the ball. Just get in the rock and give us some space. Right? Football is not rocket science. That's it area. Take. Let's get the update Act is on top of that. We'll get to inbounds out of bounds at the rags update. There's some rumblings will hit this coming up at four Eastern one Pacific that Kawai could be poised to bounce from L. A. So we have a lot to do but inbounds at about his next at their act, Who's right now he is rich. See me? Yes. Where sports flag guys. "Put this kid split out. No. When they drafted him, That was obviously the intention that's right. And maybe they had their eyes on one of two other players of E T and was The board. Maybe they would have tried that with somebody else. Maybe I don't know that for sure. A couple things first off. I'm Travis et and I'm pumped because you're gonna make a lot more money. Catch the ball. Then you are running the ball guarantee. But in the NFL, no doubt about it. Number one number two my question. I would have probably this back to you. We have had You know, it's funny. It seems like a little thing. You know, it's not, but it's not the sexy conversation. But my partner and you were just being honest. Of course, some of the New York papers took it the wrong way. But when you said And you were not wrong when you said it. That's a quant. Barclay's not every down back because of his inability to pass, protect properly. And then of course, he got hurt. It was It was terrible timing, but you were absolutely right. If if Travis et ends, not spending enough time in the running back room. Is he learning how to properly pick up blitzes to protect this quarterback? Yeah, He's been pretty good at that, and it's really a want want to thing and at Penn State say Quan wasn't asked to do it a ton and in college is it's such a different proposition, then. You know these? These brutes at linebacker who are I don't know, screwed up in the head a little bit. Just wanna knock your block off and I'm only half joking, right? So it's a different exactly. It's a different proposition in the NFL than it is in college. Um I don't remember Travis Ctn being Liability in college, but also just like sake wanted us to us. To an extent. It's a good question. You asked me T because they scattered him a lot like they have free releases for him. So if you're gonna dog him Dog, the running back. You want the running back to stay in, They're gonna free release. And if you don't have someone pick him up, Guess who's getting the football? Travis? He did, And that's what's gonna happen. He's gonna go 60 yards because you're now you know, out, man, because you have everybody in man coverage behind that, and so It's a good question on what seat we'll only know we'll only be able to know when we see it right. Just like we knew when we saw it with sake, want a little bit, But I love this idea. For the Jacks. Will jaguars with Travis Ctn. The reason you know this makes sense, and you knew it was on his mind more so than just drafting travesty. Tien is that he even said this. Urban Meyer originally wanted to draft Darius Tony. Right from from Florida. But the Giants took him at 20. And we know this about Tony. He is a He is a kick returner. He is a wide receiver. He is. You can put him in the back field. You could do the Jets. Would you do everything with him? And so I think, Urban Meyer Had this in his mind. I'm going to take forever Lawrence number with the first pick. And then with our 2nd 1st round pick. I'm getting this multi purpose diverse playmaker. I want to Darius Tony member. He said this after the draft, he five C T and wasn't our first choice. Say that right? Anything. We wondered if he should actually say exactly. He said He was heartbroken, like like I'm heartbreaking because there is Tony. A lot of people thought he was gonna fall into the second round. Sir. Urban Meyer was like I'm gonna get him like he's my guy quietly. He's truly who I want. When he was gone. Travis Ctn became the the I don't know the bridesmaid, so to speak, but it's a hell of a bride's maid. Because Travis see Tien is very versatile, and I love the kid as you mentioned at the top of the segment. Listen, just ask Vince. I mean, some of those bridesmaids were pretty good. You know what I mean? They were pretty good. Um, you know, I love when somebody No matter what league or sport was talking about. "And he's gonna win right that That was the guys that I want. And, um, Dan Campbell was that player, right? This isn't like by acting. This isn't like him. Manufacturing. Um you know this is this the persona because he's now a head coach. That was what Dan Campbell was. That's what he's in the league to do. And he wasn't He wasn't he was on the team with Jeremy Shockey when I was their shock. E was our glamorous big boy tight and go score touchdowns with their flowing, you know, blonde hair and be that Dan Campbell was alright blocked that tackle D tackle you get into the scrum being an ass kicker, and it's gonna hurt, But you know what? We were counting on you to do it and he did it for I think what 10 years or 12 years was career was Hey, was a grinder, And then he went into the coaching ranks And this grinded got tasked with being the interim coach in Miami, and they suck that those years, but he came back and was like We're going to run the ball. We're gonna practice with pads on. We're gonna do all this stuff that football players should be doing. He brought that back. And now for the last four years or five years, Actually, he's been the assistant. Head coach and a tight end coast down on Sean Payton. So he's learned under some of them really a really good head coach, Great head coach and Sean Payton. So I think he's perfectly prepared for this job, and he's perfectly positioned to be successful up. There may take a little bit, but that's why I take a little bit. They're not very good, but that is a little bit. But that's why a six year deal is perfect. You'll see fight and you'll hear resolve. You'll hear energy and You know that that that fan base needed Ah, hand to palm off the mat. You know, the kind of just just kind of spark something again. There's nothing worse when and Lions fans. I'm not saying apathy is The most dangerous human emotion. I mean, when you start when you stop caring about something. Yep, That's that's that's not good lines. Fans never stopped caring, but Boyd, I do believe on a lot of levels that they stop believing. That they can ever find their way to where they want to find. And this guy he's galvanizes a great great job. By Dan Campbell. That was awesome. I don't know of Eagle fans will be is fired up about Nick's Syriani, but we'll find out Donovan McNabb's gonna join us next. The road ahead. Daddy, you rehabilitate Carson Wentz. Colin says Odell Beckham Jr. is everything the New York Giants are not

"Speaking of your dad actually wanna play this. This is know Colin cowherd was trying to do a speech about why the giants. It doesn't work out with Odell Beckham and he's saying that you know, Odell Beckham a little crazy, a little sexy and the giants. They are the opposite of that. And this is what he said about the giants and their history was star share. You look at the history of the New York Giants look at their stars Mark beforre, Phil Makanji, David Tyree, Jeff, Hostetler. Phil Simms. Anybody, anybody got an Espresso, even your stars are boring. Who I mean, you know, he did a really good job of trying to not name like the biggest stars, which would be who I, I mean, Lawrence Taylor. I mean, yeah, sure. Lacks co bursts. Well, I mean, there's been a number Jeremy shockey. He's been there. It's been like this choir boy setting, Tiki barber. Was he acquired Boyko? Everybody hated him in the NFL. Pretty sure I get the I know what he's trying to say. It is kind of an understated organization, the Maras or that type of family?
