Under this plan, federal executive branch workers will now face of vaccine requirement and could extend that to employees of contractors who do business with the federal government. White House press secretary Jen Psaki has said. These next steps are intended to make it So federal employees have no option other than to get vaccinated will be related to access to testing. Some will be related to mandates somehow be related to how we ensure kids are protected in schools. We'll have more on that coming up in just a few minutes with CBS News White House correspondent Stephen Portnoy as we anticipate the president's guidance on that, And as we mentioned yesterday, Idaho hospitals are right now rationing health care. You know it's just it's amazing like i don't take any of it for granted. It's just awesome. That i actually get to do some open source work here and people appreciate that and that's awesome so that's another way to support the project and then the last play. Is you know if you build something with bridgetown weed left to hear about it lease get the word out so we can help you get the word out so outside of bridgetown are there other back. End frameworks beside rails. Even keeping a close eye on. Yeah there've been so many. Good ruby frameworks for web development. And i always feel a little bad when i look at different ones and start to play around a bit and then think i just wanna go back to rails because i do believe in a rising tide floats all boats. It's good to have different projects in different things going on contributing to the ecosystem. However i think i finally found something. I'm kinda falling in love with and that's rhoda was initially created by jeremy evans. Who's been in the ruby community for a long time. I think he's actually one of the core team contributors to ruby. And it's a really interesting take on how you'd structure a web app It's it's based on this idea that you kind of have this tree of routes and instead of the sort of invention idea you might have with rails or even sinatra where it's like okay here's a route and then do something of that and here's another route. Then do something with that instead. It's like you kind of start with essentially slash right. It's like the root of your website and within a block. That handles that you know you might have more blocks. To handle whatever's next on the trees there might be several options there and then within each of those sub tree portions. You might have yet more blocks a handle part of that tree so know kind of in this potentially single file your literally building a tree of logic for your site and for really large applications. That might seem bananas but for maybe a simple. Api that static site might connect to the wheelhouse. I'm i'm definitely in here. It's really appealing. So i'm experimenting with that and that's been really fun ball. I definitely gonna have to have jeremy on the podcasts as well so connor recommended you. I'm just going to keep the chain alive. I'd love to hear a rota themes podcast. That sounds awesome. all right. it's on it's on the list. So jared i know you are a self professed nerd and i know you love the marvel cinematic universe for the listeners who might have not dived into it yet. What do you recommend as the must watch movie or series doctor. Strange i love benedict cumberbatch. So i will second that yeah. It doesn't always come up as someone's favourite movie or even top five everyone's always ranking and making lists so. I don't always see doctor strange float up to the top again kind of a funny thing. I didn't grow up reading comics. I wasn't into the you know the comic book scene but my dad had been in his teenage years. So i kind of heard these like second hand stories of like the comics. He loved most to when he was reading them back in the day and doctor strange one of his favorite characters. So he tell me all about you know these wild stories of like alternate dimensions and mystical arts. And all this kind of stuff. It sounded really cool as somebody. Who's like what kind of comic would. I wanna read about. That definitely sounded appealing. Asai went into the movie with kind of high hopes that it would be as just wild. And mind-bending is the you know the comics seemingly had been and i got all of that so yeah i love doctor. Strange i'm super excited about the sequel. The most i really enjoying low key so far. That's i think that might be my favorite of the new disney series. I think the character of low key and just the whole premise of it is awesome and then have to check that out. I washed wanda vision. But i haven't gotten into loc- yet. So i'm almost waiting for a couple of episodes. Be out so that way. I can bench it. Oh yeah it's hard to wait week from week. Oh my gosh yeah way. Too much energy is being expended on thinking about what what's going to be in the next episode where the story's going know. I find myself watching. Videos of people speculating about what's coming but it's fun. It's fun it is fun. So jared what are your thoughts on the future of the ruby and ruby on rails communities. I think the community is really healthy. And i might not have said that a few years ago i think a lot of people kind of have this angst around. I mean it's a meam at this. Point is ruby dead or israelis dead and i distinctly remember even a number of years ago now but before angular kinda rewritten so in the initial like angular days. I had people basically telling me like you're gonna have to learn angular j. ass and that's where all the energy is now. In the era of react being dominant does seem funny. But i think there was a real concern and that concern. Canada drove people to make various decisions on some teams in various projects and whatnot. And it really feels like that's turning around and you know maybe it's anecdotal maybe it's just hearsay. I don't know it feels like a lot of people who have kind of stuck around in the ruby community or rails in particular. Feel much more confident to say like you know. This is the choice we've made and it's working and we're excited about it and then there's like a whole lot of new people coming into the community. Just you know with my little bit of presence on twitter lately talking about ruby. I chat with folks who are learning ruby or maybe picked up a little bit of a few years ago and then kinda got sidetracked with other things are coming back to it now so i think it's good you know there's always more to do. There's always places to go with how we talk about. What's beneficial about learning ruby. Perhaps for the first time in a number of years it really does feel like the community is growing and is a great place to be. I totally agree. So how can listeners follow. You can follow me on twitter. And on get hub at jared see white and i also have a website. Jared white dot com on my serve. Professional web studio website is white fusion dot studio fantastic. Jared thank you so much for coming onto the show. I so admire all the work that you're doing on bridgetown and i am just so excited for the work that you're putting in there and introducing new community members through it and we'll be excited to have you on when it hits one dotto i appreciate that. Yeah thanks you've been listening to the ruby on rails podcast. Follow us on apple podcast. Google play or wherever fine. "1300. I wanted to get a sharper mind than mine to discuss the whole name, image and likeness stuff that is now okay? Starting today, and they don't get much sharper than Jeremy M. Evans, Esquire. He is a founder at California sports lawyer and he has found a great avenue for his knowledge on these kind of subjects as the host of believe in sports law. On the believe podcast network. Jeremy Appreciate you joining me. The proverbial floodgates are open. Have we seen a flood of college athletes cashing in today? Well, hey, thanks, Ryan. Appreciated being with you and great being on the show with. Yeah. So, Yeah, We're definitely seeing a flood of opportunity, and I think there was one athlete who signed the initial deal. For $20,000 with a moving company. And we're just seeing things kind of grow from there. I think some of the larger deal is going to take some time to develop. But there was even the athlete. I think, the star quarterback at Wisconsin who created logo So this is just the beginning. And as some of these other states get their laws in place, or get their universities in place, and in terms of their programming, this is, uh, going to open up some serious opportunities for Athletes in all sports and men and women, just depending really on how many followers they have, Because in my mind, that's the real catalyst to N I l It's It's their ability to reach an audience directly and not have to go through a broadcaster. You mention that the bigger deals with bigger companies are going to take a little while and that makes a lot of sense. But do you think once we get Into the middle of this, and it becomes kind of more normalized, and we're a few weeks, maybe a month or two into this thing. Do you think that will have more smaller deals like the moving company? Or do you think that will have more? Uh, you know, big deals like with cell phone companies and things like that. You know, that's a good question. I think it's definitely going to be state by state because You know, the interesting situation here is that we don't need state law to tell athletes that they can make money. State. Basic California was the catalyst and getting this going because the answer to the lay wasn't moving on it. And so California passed its fair pay to play act. And then the anti responded and admittedly, Mark Emirates said that it was California's law that really got this conversation started. An existing state law already protects name, image and likeness, and people are allowed to profit off of that. The problem was that police said, you know, you basically can't do this and so I think once answered, really opened up those doors and you know, and obviously state law was kind of opening this up in universities were saying yes. I think that in states that went live with this on July 1st and they had laws in place and universities were already on board. We're probably going to see more opportunity there. But California's law did not go into effect. I think until 2023 And so I think state by state, we might see some bigger deals. But what we also have to keep in mind is that a lot of these schools are signing with companies like open doors. And, uh, Altea sports partners in terms of so they can manage this. N I l sort of structure. So I think that once those things are in play, people have been educated. I think we'll start seeing bigger deals. But the last point I'll make to that. Ryan is this idea that like in California, for example, There's going to be limitations because In my mind. It was the most open market legislation that was put out there, and it basically said You can find whatever deal you want. You just can't conflict with the underlying university. So if the school is signed with Adidas They would be able to actually wouldn't be able to sign a deal with Nike, for example. But if you compare that to let's say Georgia, they're going to pool 74.9% of the money that come in from the athletes give it to the other athletes that are in the programs they're not making. The money. There's also limitations on you can't sponsor anything from the sin industries like gambling and alcohol and cannabis and that sort of thing. And of course, you can't take the money. The money goes in an escrow account until one year after graduation or one year after you leave school. So there's going to be some limitations on this state by state Conference by conference school by school, my guess would be California will probably be one of the last ones to pursue this. Especially since the schools and the Pac 12 seem to be a little more conservative in their approach with this Um, but I could definitely see schools in the Midwest and the South and in the East, maybe having particularly in Florida, having a bigger effect in some of these bigger deals happening. Jeremy Evans. My guess he's the host of believe in sports on the bleed podcast network Talking about N I l I want to go back to the to touch on the Georgia thing because one of my questions was Is this only going to or the vast majority of this is going to benefit only men's basketball in football, or will there be? And and does that matter if it only On Mostly benefits those two sports, but the Georgia thing you just mentioned what is that about pulling the the money to give to other athletes? Right. So basically what's going to happen in Georgia's that let's say the top athletes, so I entered that in two parts so The athletes that are in Georgia. Going to Georgia schools will be able to profit from their name, image and likeness while they're attending.

"Well, let's take you honest. You know, Janice had to win two and VPs. I don't. I don't see that Janice. Get as much love as a k d or as of Russell Westbrook or a James Harden, or he who shall not be named. I don't think the honest gets as much love from his peers as you might expect. And if he does now, it's only because he's won multiple M v P I think Manu Ginobili in some part in Tony Parker. Went through this now They were never the level of player and that's why it's tough to Manu Ginobili was not the level of player that Nicole Yokich is or Janice's Ruka, dance your chest. I think you're honest, Luca. Nicole. Yo, kids, you notice that those guys are quick to praise each other. Because, while I agree with Paul Klee's point overall I do think in their little circle. Remember Yanis raving. About Yokich at the All Star Game. They have an unbelievable amount of respect for each other. It's a two way street. Luca is the same way with Yokich and Johannes. I think this is An American versus Non American. Saying more than anything else. I think that's number one on the list, and I think number two on the list is what Aaron pointed out that Nicole Yokich is does not play an appealing brand of basketball and basketball players themselves are still fans of the game. They still like to watch. And I'm sure they don't watch many Nuggets game. I would say those are the two per Bailey read. Why maybe Nicole Yokich? Uh, doesn't Get the love. Uh um. From the seven or nine as a lifelong Cleveland fan. I'll always love the who shall not be named for bringing a championship home, but I can't wait for him to retire. I think the league will be better. For it. Yeah, And we've seen this. We have evidence. Based on ratings. Saying that the appetite from the general sports and basketball fan is enough. Of that guy in L. A I'm not saying that they want him completely out of the way. But we have seen him at the top of this game and be this black. Hold this vortex just All the conversation in the league around him. And we're seeing that the the NBA playoffs without him. Are some of the highest rated ever. And I think that tells you a lot. About the appetite to move. Just again. He doesn't have to be out of the way. Just his time to rule the league needs to be over. He can stick around and he could be a villain, and he can You know, he's still a box office draw. You know, I'm not saying he needs to retire. I'm just saying we need the NBA will be better off. Moving forward without him dominating the league. And this late in the playoffs. They're being teams like Milwaukee and Atlanta, and even the Clippers and the Phoenix sign. 5229872. There are some thoughts on Montreal in Tampa. I want to get to here in a little bit. So if you text about the hockey game, hey, type as you can. I will get to those in a little bit. And some other theories about why Nicole Yokich isn't embraced as much by his NBA superstar brethren. But I want to get to my next guest on time because the big news of the day is And I l baby. Name, image and whiteness. If your college athlete you can profit off of those three things, the floodgates are supposedly opened. Has there been a flood of college athletes cashing in? I will ask Jeremy Evans. He is the host of believe in sports law and the believe podcast network and he is a sports lawyer, and he will join me next. Another day. Another unknown It could bring your biggest order yet, or.

"Ncw has the potential to be suit here But i think the wise move would be to work with these students and try to find a way to to navigate. This new space of offering scholar more scholarships and having the ability for name magen likeness on occasion you will see in a certain state that the legislature or the state senate is debating name image and likeness legislation for that particular state and everybody gets all excited and the nc double a. Was this conversation to be sort of centralized on the federal level. What does yesterday's ruling do for that. You know really good question and you know. I actually want to call him on this this week and i talked about this debate between federal versus state law. And you know from from a supreme court standpoint. What this case really does is it says. State cannot pass a law or university cannot have a regulation. Aa cannot basically act to restrict athletes for making money. That's a broader interpretation of this narrow interpretation would just be has to can't collude. The limit scholarships right. But i think ultimate was where the discussion is going in the country. I think that it's a broader interpretation. And what it means for states is that regardless of whether a state has a law that says you know we're going to have an i l. regardless of what the aa does. I think this train is moving forward. And i think a lot of these states. Because you know what's going to happen is coming to live. I when he's five or six other states have passed laws like florida. And what have you. Students are gonna start going out and making money. And i just don't think the nc don't is gonna have A legal principle to stand on To challenge that show. I think ultimately just up the market. I think it defines the market a little bit more. And we're gonna see a lot more competition everything that i've read about. This refers to related benefits that the nc double a.'s. No longer going to be able to put a cap on education related benefits. Is there a specific verbiage. Now to me education related benefit would be a laptop or paying for an internship or study abroad program. Something like that. I would imagine if you really wanted to be creative. You could really expand the umbrella to include things that really aren't related to education but the school may say is related to education in order to keep a kid from leaving the school or to come to school to play Collegiate sports That verbiage specifically the the education related benefits. Is there anything. In the court's ruling that places restrictions or limitations on what specifically could be defined as an education related benefit. Yeah that's a good question. And i think that's where the schools and the ncw have to come in and define what that is..

five yesterday this week six other states Ncw florida double a.'s.

"9 39 is a time on carry news radio and talking about the Supreme Court ruling yesterday. Jeremy Evans is a sports attorney. He's also The host of believe in sports law and the believe podcast network founder and managing attorney at the Colorado sports lawyer or California sports Lawyer. Excuse me and Jeremy joins us now. Good morning, Jeremy. Thanks for your time. Dave Logan, Rick Lewis. And Kathy Lee, How are you? Good morning, Dave. Kathy, are you guys doing this morning? You know what we're doing? Fine. Thanks for your time. So break this down in in as concise fashion as you possibly can, as you looked at the ruling yesterday. By the Supreme Court. What exactly were two or three things that you took from that that you will see and play in the very near future. No, thank you so much for having me on so very briefly. I guess Three top things remember one. What This does is, it sets the stage for schools across the country. To open up the opportunity for student athletes to profit off their name image in like this. That's the biggest thing. Ultimately, Supreme Court Since we opened the door to say, regardless of what the incident does, regardless of what's called game, you cannot prevent athletes from, um sort of profiting from her name, image and likeness. In sort of opening up that scheme, and it's going to be interesting, I guess. Two other points. It's going to be interesting how that plays out because the question gets asked. Okay, well, what happens if a state passing a law that says you cannot profit? Well, that would potentially, you know, come in conflict with the Supreme Court decision. And then the other aspect is what if a state does nothing? What if they don't pass a law operating them to likeness or what? At the level? A, Uh says No, we're not. Allowing this at the end of the day with this decision says, is that You cannot prevent them from doing it, meaning that if there's an opportunity to provide additional income to the student athlete, whether that be from the school directly in a recruiting efforts or an outside money There is the ability to do that. So those would be, I guess the three sort of top things that came out of that decision. Jeremy. Why did it take so long to get to this because it's been a long time since the has had a monopoly. On college athletics. Of decades and decades, and especially the power five conferences. Those guys make an unbelievable amount of money off of these. These kids talent and mostly football players, in some cases, football and basketball, But why has it taken so long to get to this? Yeah, You know, that's a fair question. And And I think that you know who would have had this conversation. Let's say 20 years ago. We wouldn't even be talking about this. Maybe even 30 years ago where it was, you know, I think the incredible aim universities really opened up this hand dollars box if you will. By shining, you know, million dollars sponsorship and apparel contracts by signing, you know, you know, Million You know hundreds of million dollars in terms of billions of dollars in terms of Broadcast contracts. Can't really opened the door to this and then for them to turn around and say No, You can't pop it off your name. Imagine like this. You know that sort of thing. And then, of course, simultaneously, the NFL and the NBA instituted rules that said, you cannot enter the draft. Until you've had at least 123 years of college. With the one year being the NBA and three years in the NFL. So to me, why did it take so long? I think it was just a matter of the student athletes basically stepping out standing up and saying, Hey, we'd like to have a Basically a piece of this, you know, financial pie. And then I think it was just a matter of the school, seeing the benefit of this But I think maybe technology has a huge partners. We would not probably having this conversation. But for social media, social media is really the catalyst. In my opinion, it's opened up this opportunity to wear Everybody, including you and me can have our own broadcast channel. But they don't have to go through a distributor. Whether worried about advertising that sort of thing, So I think that directed consumer approach really allowed for this to move forward. Jeremy for some people in our region text we just got I mean, I have an answer, but I want to see what yours is from the 33. So how much is a college education going to cost when they pay engineering teams, debate teams and women's cross country teams, etcetera, your opening Pandora's box. Those You know you're looking at right now. As I understand this you're looking at, uh, Division one football Division One basketball. Those two sports and football, in particular generate the lion's share of the revenue. That is that has spread around the university. But how would you? How would you answer this textures question in terms of other teams and whether or not they would be Included in some of what what is about to take place. Yeah, No, And that's a really good question and again a fair question. I think. You know, Part of the problem right is that on one hand, you know, free market sort of open market is a good idea in the sense that it raises the value and It potentially could be a situation where student athletes are, Um, you know, getting paid more money because they're getting recruited to go to the best schools. But you're right in that It does create some issues when it comes to, you know, should should you know, college is being the you know, sort of open market competition space when we're talking about The idea of going to college is all about, you know, education. Now what I think is going to happen is, I think the market is eventually going to correct itself, meaning that A couple. Maybe a couple of a few things are going to happen. Number one is, I think the name image and lightness space is going to be important and big, but it's going to be important and big for, um, maybe the starting quarterback starting running back. That sort of thing, right? It's not going to be for the left. Starting tackle Mr very positive person have a large social media following so I think the market is going to kind of dictate that. People want to watch the starting running back. They don't want to watch the starting debate people right or the person who is running an engineering team. I think it's sort of the market will dictate that. But It's sort of an interesting thing, because it does open up this Pandora's box. As you said that with regard to paying athletes and how does that work? The other part I mentioned this is that we've already seen the N B. A And so many other leagues provide opportunities to where folks don't have to go to college..

Dave Logan Jeremy Evans Rick Lewis Kathy Lee Jeremy Dave Kathy three years yesterday Supreme Court 20 years ago two one year 30 years ago Two other points two sports million dollars NBA this morning three
