"Today and tomorrow produced and U S taxpayer expense. We continue on with the pregame show now and go behind the bench. Blackhawks head coach Jeremy College in before tonight's game between the Black Box and the Carolina Hurricanes. Jeremy It's the first of three meetings and four nights against Carolina all down in Carolina. And you've got five games remaining in the regular season. Have you said any short term goals for the Blackhawks from here now to the end of the regular season slate? Yeah, well, so 11 game in the time Still, you know, we were gonna put all our energy and the one game, the reward of winning and the feeling of competing and putting it online coming out on top. That's what we've got to be focused on. And obviously it's a big challenge here. Carolina's an excellent team, so we we really gotta be sharp on the details of the game. That's gonna allow us to have a chance to win, whether that's puck management or being on the defensive side of the puck. When you're winning, you're 50 fifty's. Those little things give you a chance to have success. No, I'm going to come back to Carolina here in just a minute. But I have to ask you this. It's May 3rd and the Blackhawks still haven't been eliminated from the playoffs. Hunt, though there eight points behind eight points behind Nashville, with only five games to play, But Is there any kind of a collective level of teams satisfaction that the team has been able to derive from the fact that here they are, It's May as I said, close to the end of the regular season, and the team still hasn't been eliminated when many of the prognosticators and so called experts around the NHL is that all the black Hawks, they're going to be a last place team, probably not team satisfaction. I think we're all competitors in here and we want to be in. No, I think credit to our guys that we we've been in the race, but I don't think there's any status. Action with it. Having said that the focus and the goals of our team this season have been too Continue to improve and give young players opportunity and focus on getting better every day. Certainly it's It's definitely not always a straight line, and it's never going to be But we we gotta focus in on this last week. These last five games to continue to get better to Can you continue to improve way have been young all year were even younger now. And we gotta push the group and push, obviously, particularly the young guys individually to do more to get more comfortable lead understanding what we need to do to have success. No, you and I have talked in these interviews about the growth that we've seen with this team pretty much throughout the year, and it's been noticeable and Saturday night against the Florida Panthers, a team battle back from a five to deficit. The final score was five before but There's been a number of games where the Blackhawks have fought back and just not given up in games. He didn't just allow the final score to play out and go into the dressing room and say all the right things. This team battled back and to me that represents big growth with this team. But from a mental aspect. How much have you seen that mental growth with regard to this group? Well, I think it's important that we do have you know a relentless mentality. We talked about it a lot this year and never give up, you know, resilient. No matter what the circumstances were going to keep fighting. I think that that has to be a pillar of what we're building, so it's important that we see that his team should never quit and no matter the circumstance. Where we want more from the team is the attention to detail that is going to allow us to do more than just battle back and be in games we want if we want to be in a better position to begin with. And finish the job, so we need all of it. It's not just the men you were in pick and choose it. It needs to be the full picture so very positive. No question that we have that mentality and we've seen it. Fairly consistently all year. We need more with the details of the game all right, three games against Carolina down in Carolina, yet finished with two at the United Center for the regular season. What kind of an opportunity is just for you the coaching staff of the organization for evaluating this group as you head toward the off season and prepare for next season? Yep, For sure. It's uh, you know, important games for these teams and they're gonna They're gonna give us everything we can handle. And so that's a great opportunity for I think both evaluation certainly for the guys that play and they have Tolo. They shouldn't take any game for granted that they're in. They're in and they got to give us everything they've got and show put their best foot forward and show how they can help the team in the future. And then the second part is it's a development opportunity for us to continue to get better, because, you know, obviously we're not. We're not satisfied with where we are. We're looking ahead. We're looking forward. How can we be a team that's competing at the top of the league? In the future here so again, don't take the opportunity for granted to get better, and there's it's a great the conditions for getting better being tested against the top teams in the league is you couldn't ask for more. When you're talking about the Carolina Hurricanes. Your opponent for these next three games, you're talking about the number one power play in the NHL, the number two home ice Penalty kill in the NHL good on special teams as they mentioned and a fair amount of team speed. You know all about that team speed with the traits of the Blackhawks have made here the recently It seems like they've acquired a fair amount of team speed as well. Are we looking at a track meet type of pace for these three games? Well, we definitely want to keep up we want Oh, I think that's something that's important as we build our team in the future to have the speed to get 200 ft, you know, back and forth. So that we can have a talk with numbers but also defend with numbers. But you know, as far as the track meet its We want the track meet when we have the puck, but then when we don't have the puck We want to slow it down and get members back and be in a position to defend..

"We go behind the bench with black ops head coach Jeremy Collison down in Dallas and Jerry the team coming off consecutive wins against very good opponents. The Carolina Hurricanes and the Dallas Stars. And the overall record is now 54 and four and they're in a three way tie for third place in the central Division. The Blackhawks have earned points and nine of their last 10 games. And the talk of a Byeon by the Black Hawks players has really been notable. This has become a fun hockey team to watch Jeremy as you approached the quarter mark of the season. What your evaluation of the team so far. Well, we've We've got better as the years gone on, and that Z one of the major goals we out right now, Mr Proof. And we gotta keep him perfect. We're no doubt happy without competitive we've been and Finding a way to stay in hockey games. And that gives you the chance to make those plays to come through and get points. So that's big, positive and builds belief in the group and the idea that the work ethic and the commitment to the details is worth it. But, uh, we gotta understand that the work is just beginning and we need Tonto. We need to keep pushing to improve every day. All right, well, it's great to see Alex to bring that shooting the puck confidently again. He's wanting the pockets, working hard at positioning himself in order to receive the pocket, Get shots away. Alex to break into scored the last four goals for the Blackhawks, the two in the win against Dallas. And, of course, the last two against Carolina. What's been notable about his play this season so far compared to last season. I think he's just he's continuing to build on eyes improvement as your employer. I mean, he's still He's a veteran in the league at this point, you know, fourth year, but he's still very young player and that's exciting and he continues to get better. I just love the confidence he's playing with right now. He knows he's a A part of any success. We're gonna have his work ethic away from the puck is outstanding. Hey, sees relentless CC. He embodies a lot of the qualities that we're looking to have as a team. All right. Well, Jeremy, as I watched that game against the Dallas Stars on Super Bowl Sunday, a very subtle thing kind of popped into my mind, and it had to do with the overall team defensive effort against the Dallas Stars. I thought it was pretty strong in that 2 to 1 over time when you got some excellent goaltending. Of course from Malcolm Suban, but I'm thinking you're going to need to see at least that same effort tonight and possibly more. Would you agree? Well, we would bait we'd be naive to think that they are not going to come out harder. Better, Um And we're definitely not going to catch them by surprise there. Excellent team professional team. They got some guys. You know how to play and They're they're gonna be a big challenge for us. But we got to embrace the challenge and I think again just making good decisions protecting each other with our decisions to allow us to stand the game ST. Stay stay close, and I'll give us enough chances to make plays to win. You mentioned the stars mindset coming into tonight's game. I would totally agree with you after losing, you know, at home on Super Bowl Sunday. Are you thinking that you're going to need to remind the boys early, like maybe from the drop of the park that a key to this game here this evening is going to be the match The intensity early of the Dallas stars. Yeah, We definitely want to start on time. I thought that was one of the things on Sunday. We had a great start Our 1st 68 minutes world standing really good energy and pace of play and getting his own time and Creating chances and by doing that we were able to limit their momentum right off the bat. So we'd love to duplicate that and recognizing that we're gonna have to be even better. Now, after one game against Columbus and a game against Carolina, you had a better idea of what each team was about. I mean, you had a pretty good idea of what they were about going into those games. But after playing them and after being on the bench and watching the teams compete and seeing how the other teams did what they did You were able to adjust accordingly, if necessary in the following game. How about for the Dallas Stars? You see in them once Anything that might look different here tonight for the Blackhawks? Yeah, we We know Dallas. Well, you know, obviously we play them quite often. Here being in the same division normally. But I think that the major things with back to back games, a special teams so Those are always trying to first see what they may do what they may adjust with and then what are we going to do to counter? So that's that's fun, and it's a big challenge there. It's a great coaching stuff on the other side and Will be war. See how it turns out in the end, all right? No. No team at any level in hockey can win consistently. Without good goaltending. The Blackhawks have had the good fortune of having some good goaltending here in the last 10 games where they've gone. 51 and four. That's points in nine of 10 games. That's pretty good. Malcolm Suban stopped 30 31 shots Sunday afternoon against the Dallas Stars. You come back with Superman tonight or do you go back to Kevin Lincoln? It Gotta be liking it. All right. Well, you're looking to win a pair down in Dallas and pick up two more important points here tonight, Jeremy. Thank you for this investor. Looked you in the boys tonight against the Dallas stars. Thanks drunk. That's black Ox head coach Jeremy Collison. We've been behind the mention Jeremy College and stay tuned more upcoming in the pregame show right after this message. "Welcome back to the United Center Chris sporting of you during the first intermission here, where the Blackhawks in Carolina find themselves tied at two couple late goals by the Blackhawks to even things up a sweet talk about The 1st 20 minutes of actually which one Marie. So So, of course, Troy Carolina comes in with a league leading 1.67 goals against average and second in the league, allowing just 23 shots per game. Here. The Black Hawks are with 15 shots on goal for 20 minutes and a 22 game because hockey, I guess right. That was a fast period time wife. We're gonna have a three hour postgame show. Now time will hang around and speed wise Jeremy College and talked about the threat coming from the Carolina Hurricanes in a lot of it is the pace of how they play the game and I really was impressed with the way the Blackhawks We're prepared to play this game, even though they were down one. Not that I was a visit. Great passing play by the stall line, and then they got down to nothing, but it just didn't seem like it even affected them. They just kept going. They kept pressing. They know that they could Find a way to generate some opportunities. They got 15 shots on goal. You mentioned that. So you know, all of a sudden you've got Carolina on their heels heading into the second period and the Blackhawks feeling pretty good about themselves coming back from that two goal deficit, so A lot more of the same is is probably what you're going to see here. I don't know. Carolina changes the way that they approached the game. I don't think they're going to shut her down at all. "Give back Let's unite the world for good. We are lions, you can be to visit we served out or g'kar. As we continue on with the pregame show, we go behind the bench of Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Collison. And tonight, Jeremy the Blackhawks are back on home ice to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. The team is too old and three in their last five games, taking two out of a possible four points out of the two games in Nashville, with both of those games going to the extra session, and you've accrued points in five straight games, so going forward what we look to build on from that progression? Thought the defensive game was solid in Nashville, their particular the first two periods. We need to continue that continue the growth. They're just coming back home here. The urgency pressure on the puck Execution with the park. Those things can help us control the tempo of the game playing the offensive zone drop penalties just you know, it's important. We start on time, and we don't wait 10 minutes or a period to show the desperation that we need to win. You know, one so far, Shots on goal are concerned. The Predators got away a total of 81 shots over those two games down in Nashville. One of the boys need to do to bring that number down to a more acceptable level. Well, we need to sustain more his own time in the offensive zone. Protect the puck more, you know, forced them to defend that'll help. Obviously, I think In the second game. They had a lot of shots, but the chances were Well, we're solid, so that's important as well. If they are going to get sone time, making sure that we're good in our coverage, and we're sorting out, you know that who has sued down there and then when we do when the puck back Being quick to attack and being clean to attack so that they don't get 2nd 3rd 4th crack at it in our end, which typically that's where your breakdowns happen. All right, well, so you're younger players have been stepping up of late. It's been noticeable. Brandon Hagel, Philip Kirsch of and, Of course, Pew suitor of all been contributing in different ways. How great is it is the head coach to witness that progression and to see the team feed off their energy? Yeah, it's fun. No question, and she gives you a lot of excitement about The future. And, you know, certainly tonight what they can bring. But looking ahead next month, the month after The end of the season. We're going to keep getting better here as we go. We got a lot of young guys playing and playing minutes Z gonna help us. They're gonna improve and they're going to provide energy to the team and competition in depth and help us get to where we wanna go. You know, the Black Hawks organization went out and signed a veteran center and Carl Soderberg. He's 35 years old, but he seems to be in great shape, and he seems to be able to add to the mix. He's now played three games for the Hawks. How do you feel he's performed Yeah, It's uh, you know, he's still getting up to speed. I feel it's been it was tough with, you know, took us a long time to get him in, but he's a very professional. Guy. He understands how to play and where he's supposed to be. Compete level is excellent. He wins. A lot of 50 fifty's. That size is nice to add. Down the middle and you can play. You know both special teams. If we need it can be in big situations defensively, So you know, obviously we're down a couple centers, and he's gonna help fill that void. Okay. It's the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight in the first of two meetings over the weekend, and if you know, the Columbus Blue Jackets says, I know you do you know that they bring a lunch pail mentality to their games. They're known for winning games with hard work. They won't have Patrick Wine a available after the trade because immigration issues but that's really not for you to be concerned with, obviously, But what do your thoughts about the blue jackets and about how you'll need to be ready to play them tonight? Yeah, We know exactly what we're going to get what to expect. They're very tight. Structure, disciplined team. They're not going to give you a lot for free to make you come through five guys. Whenever they can. We gotta be prepared to match that work ethic. Be patient. Maybe it takes us, you know, 55 minutes to breakthrough. We've got to make them work for what they get and be sharp defensively and then have killer instinct when we do have been vulnerable, so it's a good challenge their their team that they're always in the mix because they don't beat themselves. I'm excited to see how we respond. Coming into training camp. People around the NHL that run talk shows and whatnot say they looked at the black card goaltending situation, and they said, Yeah, Malcolm Suban Colin Delia, and Who's That other guy, and that other guy was Kevin Lincoln and, and his name lately has been mentioned prominently on a number of NHL talk shows for a solid playing goal for the Blackhawks. Got points in all of his games. Too old and too, and I know he wants to keep that going. I don't know what your goaltending situation is going to be like tonight. That's part of the question. But has Lincoln and Splay made it a challenge for you as head coach in choosing your goaltender. Well, it's a good problem to have. He got multiple guys playing while Lincoln and we'll start tonight. The Gold Tang situation is it's a microcosm of how our team has been viewed, You know, not not a lot of people. Taken us down much success this year, and I think they've used that as Fuel to prove some people wrong. And that Zagat to be our mindset to is we're gonna We're gonna show that we're not going to quit here. We're gonna play hard. We're gonna be relentless. I will add it up the end. All right. Sounds like a plan. Jeremy. Thanks for this. And good luck to you. And the boys here tonight in the 1st 22 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Thank you. "Hawks are going to the shoot out. So for Kevin Lincoln, and it's gonna be his first foray into the shootout on for You see sorrows. No doubt he's got some shootout experience. But ah, harder and point for the Hawks to take the predators 65 4 minutes And this one hasn't been decided. There were some opportunities for both teams in that. Three on three. Yeah, Mark Boy, You know what You talk about, you know, he says, I got some offensive ability to my game. But you know, sometimes, when you get slotted into the equation like he was, the Dallas Stars had to two lines that were basically their top line their top goal scoring. People and young mark wasn't including that in that, so he ended up moving down a little bit there, but certainly has shown some flashes here that he's got some good hands and made some really nice place here. That's the first shoot out for both teams this season. We don't have the career numbers in front of us here. I would have to think that For sure. "They have to have a mindset here that when you get in the offensive zone, spend some more time in that area. But when you have the opportunity, you've got to get bodies and park to the Net. And boy it just When you look at the gold look at the goals that they scored against Detroit, and they had five even strength goals in that last game, and you sit here and say, Well, Jeepers, we're going to the net and throw in the park to the Met. There's rebounds there. We're doing what we need to do. And all of a sudden it it it went right out the window. So you got attacked the middle of the ice tonight against Nashville, and I don't know why they've had such lack of success and scoring against national. Yeah, the Ah good team. They basically rolled with four defenseman. They didn't really play there. Third pairing. In the game last night, And when you've got Yoshi and Alison that comb and Fabbro out there, you got to make it tough on them. You gotta make them defend a lot more and use up some energy and their own into the ice, so they don't have the energy and the offensive side of it because those big fork back there Nashville expect them to play a lot of ice time tonight. But if it's an easy amount of ice time because they're not working hard, not battling. That's bad for the Blackhawks for those six goals on Sunday against Detroit, came below the dots. And between the circles building better by design is sponsored by architect of Chicago and creating thousands of gathering spaces for Chicago and families. And on yesterday's pretty game we heard from Brandon Hagel, who continues earning his time in the lineup and how he made his NHL debut on March 11th the final game before the pause. Ready after waiting and putting together one of the more impressive training camps that kept him on the taxi squad. Yeah, I don't think it was a lost opportunity for me. You know, I just came and I played one game and I think I did well, so I was really happy about that. And just here. It's just about getting better every day, you know. I want to show that out of my place here with what everyone continue to be better, You know, gapping up, killing, placing the DEA's own making some place and I think all of those stuff. They just it just gone with confidence, so I just need to build build up my confidence, continue to build it up, and I think it's just gonna be good for me. Well, he instilled some confidence in the coaching staff with the way he worked in the off season since he put on about 80 £10 still not a big defenseman. He won't be all his. You know, Bread and butter is going to come with his stick work in his footwork and reading plays and he gets another opportunity here tonight, And I know Jeremy Carlson very complimentary. I think he was tempted earlier on to insert Bohdan into the lineup. The opportunity here comes tonight. What have you seen from him and training camp compared to previous camps. I think there's a different confidence level and an awareness of how you have to play in the NHL. When you first come in you. You really have no idea. You have no clue. What it takes to play in the NHL. And that comes over coming into training camp, Seeing how guys like Duncan Keith on the blue line, Brent Seabrook, the veteran players prepare themselves and how hard they have to work Tonto shin themselves to play at at this level, and that's something that for the younger players, they just don't understand. They think they work out hard, but they don't understand how hard they actually Have to commit to what you do in the off season, and it sounds like Bohdan did that this offseason. He put on some weight. He said that he feels better that way. And I think Justin awareness of how the game is played at this level. Is something that that he can build on from the lessons that he's learned when he's been in camp when he's been in the all of the groups with it with the veteran players, So you know, we'll see what happens tonight. Looks like Jeremy Colton is gonna roll seven defenseman I thought last night when you had some guys on the blue line struggling Um, that it was tougher for Sheldon Brooke Banked who runs the defense and Jeremy College in to find guys who were ready to go out there who were playing at a level that you needed to have. So actually much time was they spent in their own zone last night. Yeah, so I think that by going with seven defenseman, you know, he's basically telling a lot of people in the line up on the on the blue line there that if you don't play well and you're not performing, you're not going to see the ice because we've got an extra guy in the lineup for that reason, all right, Thanks for the knowledge, Troy let you go. Ready for the call with John and stop the are Thanks for the swag. Thanks for the swag is How funny is that way? Didn't talk before this, So, Yeah, we're the Bobbsey triplets, I guess coming up. Next we go behind the bench with head coach to hear me, Callison. I will create opportunities in transition, or, you know, we get a puck back in the offensive zone. You're close to the net, and you're ready to create a chance. Like all Taki is sponsored by Bud Light. There's a Bud light there. Vandal Sports book You look Leon Citgo Feeling good plumbers..

"The United Center tonight looking for their first road win, while the Hawks they just want to win period high and everyone John Weidman, along with Troy Murray and Chris Boden, we want to welcome you into our broadcast and Welcome you back to the United Center. It's been a long time. Troy. Since I've been able to see that March 11th of 2020 when the Blackhawks played the San Jose Sharks and seemed like the world shut down after that, we had no more games to talk about here. He eventually did get to work during the summer in the playoffs, which was cool. And then finally, this season came back around in the month of January, and we're all happy about it. It's great to see them playing hockey on this ice surface right now, and it troubles our hearts to know that the greatest fans in hockey are not among us here. That's going to come in time. But for tonight we have an original six rivalry that I know you was a player love to take part in. Welcome back, but well, thank you. I remember that, like it was yesterday. The N B A. If you recall it. Postponed their season that night breaking news that the MBA was postponing their season. So you knew something was gonna happen, But I don't think anybody had a clue. But but what? Actually Was going to happen just an incredible amount of time here that we've dealt with this pandemic and it's not over yet. And we wish everybody who was dealt with the issue. All the best in every way. I know from heartbreak and It's just been tough. But we're happy to be back here at the United Center, doing what we love to do, and that's called the games and I'm excited to see this rivalry blossom again this season, the first of eight between these two Original six rivals, and for so many years I was a part of it in the old North division throughout the eighties and The Blackhawks. The older players were a part of it while they were still in the same division, so it's changed a little bit. Obviously, you don't see him all that much. But I'm excited for this opportunity here at the United Center to see these two teams play. It's a very meaningful game. Um, Red Wings is we've talked about it, Chris said to wood to all on home Ice Blackhawks getting their first taste here at the United Center looking for their first victory, so should be exciting. Should be good. Now it is the home opener, and that means that there are ceremonies involved before the start of the action here tonight, right now. Members of the team that are primarily part of the taxi squad being introduced right now, and some injured players taking part in this. It's great to see Brent Seabrook come to the Blackhawks bench and give a wave to everybody. He's dealing with back issues will get to his segment here in a minute, along with That of John Seabrook could wave to the crowd. The young guys, they can't That would be a little too much. That's right. That's exactly right. Well, let's get to some sponsored items right now, starting with the injury report it sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, the card to carry through it all. I'll go ahead and start with veteran Brent Seabrook. He is on injured reserve with back issues and we're hoping he'll he left real soon would be great to see him back in the lineup and of course long term injured. Reserve for Alex. Knee Lander. Jonathan Tapes, Blackhawks captain And Kirby Doc, all with different ailments. We wish all of those gentlemen all the best and hope to see them back into the line up real soon, and now the Blackhawks regular players introduced down below us on the ice surface. Let out of the tunnel by Blackhawks goaltender Malcolm Suban and followed by Colin Delia, Kevin Lankan and then companies. So it Z gonna continue on as it usually does the kid. Let's get to tonight's keys to the game. Troy if we can, they're sponsored by Bud Light. Hey, there's a Bud light there. Go get him with the keys. Thanks, John, the first key And they kind of talked about this. They want to get off to a really good start here. You know, they played four games on the road. They're back home. Familiar surroundings. Get off to a good start. That's that's the key here, and the second key is they don't want to chase this game. They haven't had the lead, but about half a minute. Yeah. This so they they just can't keep chasing the game. Get off to a good start score the first goal. Don't fall behind and then chased the game. I mean, everything has to adjust and Jeremy College and has to look at his vengeance. And try and figure out where he's going to get those goals from where you're gonna have that comeback ability in the last game. They did it a couple times, but you don't want to keep put yourself in that position. The third key is keep working on the defensive structure. Still too many breakdowns Jeremy Collins and talks about it. Is there still a work in progress, and that's true, but I thought we saw some signs that it was heading in the right direction in the last game, and hopefully they continue that here in their own and tonight and play better. Defensive. All right. Thanks for those keys. Try it. Now at the the Introductions. Continue way see some new faces in the lineup in these these guys have played four games together, all on the road down in Tampa, and, of course down in South Florida. Team record now old, three and one, But trending, I'll say are the Blackhawks in the correct direction. They picked up their first point in that last game down there went to overtime. I think that their confidence is built with each passing games. Yeah, and you look at these. These younger players that they organization really wants to get a look at it. They actually made a move. To give these guys another opportunity. Brandon period was sent to the taxi squad. Carl Soderberg is with the team skated yesterday for the first time. You know when he's available, he's going to fit in there. Everybody was kind of. Well, you know Jeremy Collins and said, You know, we want to see what the young guys could do. And yet you're saying OK, Well, Brandon period didn't sent to the taxi squad. And Carl, Sir Soderbergh is with the team. Um He wasn't talking about all sort of burden. When he made those comments he was talking about what a few suitor has done, and Philip Curtis shatters done. You want to see them because you know what Brandon period could do. And.

"As we continue on with the pregame show, we go behind the bench with Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Collison before tonight's game, the home opener for the Blackhawks against the Detroit Red Wings and Jeremy Talk about that a little bit. If you can there be no fans in the building. It would be a little bit different. Ah lot different. In fact, from what we're used to seeing 21,000 of the greatest fans in hockey assemble in the United Center. Tonight. It's just the people working the game, including yourself in the Black Hawk players and, of course, the Detroit Red Wings. The adversary fortunate one of the feeling's going through you right now, and the thoughts about what Tonight's game could be. Yeah, well, it will be strange. No questions the first time for us playing in this building, you know, with without the people in the support that we so appreciate, you know, it's it's gonna be different, but at the same time we it's we gotta perform and we know people will be watching on TV and Take a lot of pride in how we playing this building and Yeah, we We want to make sure from puck drop that we have. You know, a relentless, determined mentality that we're on the park and we're We're trying to assert ourselves from the beginning as far as how we want this game to be played. You know, we didn't have the results We wanted to on the road trip, but now it's a chance to come home and build some momentum and we've got to take advantage of it. Right now. Before the last Florida game. We talked about how close the team was to playing a 60 minute game, and it didn't take us long to find out that game they played 60 plus minutes could have won that game against the Florida Panthers. They lost in overtime. But there was never a time where I saw the Chicago Blackhawks team take their foot off the gas. Although they'll enter tonight's game with an old three and one record. What is their confidence level? Well, we played better. That's for sure. I think we've gotten better every game and it's just finding a way to be more consistent and shift to shift build. Build 1234 shifts in a row, and I thought the second period last game was a perfect example. We kind of pulled herself back into it. And, you know, we just you know, Of course we want to, you know, Finish it off with a result. So confidence. I think you build your confidence by how you prepare and with the commitment to get better, and I think we have that We just got to keep pushing through until we break through. Jeremy, You know that game never developed one of those uphill battle kinds of fields for the voices. They were in it right to the end is I mentioned which is really a tribute. To the work that you and the coaching staff have done and the boys as well. Have they hit a point in their development now as a team where they're going to hold themselves accountable to a higher standard with each passing game? Well, that's how it should be. We want to be raising the standard every night so that your minimum level rises and then you keep pushing the top end and We're gonna need to keep that mentality. All your I highly doubt we're going to get to the point where the finished product is there and and ultimately That's I think the People who are performing at the highest level. That's their mentality all the time. So, um, yeah way can't be satisfied. We gotta be have the mindset. We're gonna improve every day and that's what's gonna pull us, sir. Right. It was great to see dominant. Kubelik make a contribution with a pair of goals in that game against the Panthers, and I spoke of a team confidence level. But his confidence in that game was certainly noticeable. What thoughts do you have? That he might hold the hot hand right now? Yeah, He was really good. And I think that that breakthrough was building for a couple games. I thought, you know game too. He took a step and I thought came three. He was even better and Uh, you know, he had eight shots. I think he had multiple chances yet a shooting mentality, and they said he could have more made a really nice play on your chef school. So you know, that's that's something we hope you can build on. He's uh, we're looking for him, Tonto step in his game and improve and even if That may not be the goal Total like obviously had a fantastic year production wise, but we want him to continue to improve away from the puck as well. And It's gonna be good for team. Yeah, Part of that will be part of my next question. Which is the fact that the team is averaging five goals allowed per game. I know you don't want to see that number continue to rise. You want to see it come down. As far as defensive zone adjustments are concerned, maybe even the back checking game. What could the team do in order to limit the opposition rush chances? Yeah, As you say, we're not happy with the amount of goals were given up. You know, he kind of hit it. I think we're gonna make sure that we don't get beat up ice in transition, making sure we have numbers back allowing our Dita to play with a You know, a tight gap, and in with the knowledge they got help coming Toronado numbered in our own end being stronger around the net. Finding a way to You know whether it's off turnovers, the zone, turnovers or rebounds, doing a better job that it's not. We gotta recover quicker defensive side and making sure that we're We're sorting all that net front area. And you know, I think the penalty kills gonna get better. So there's there's lots of ways There's lots of areas to improve and we need to improve for you to get someone's alright. You haven't seen them in person. But I know you've seen a ton of video on them. Your opponent tonight the Detroit Red Wings. How do you size him up? Yeah, well, they have some speed. They have some size. They got some good young players coming through, and that's you know, similar to us where they're trying to. Build back up on identity, but I see a a team that wants to play with a fast pace. And, you know hard for checking. And so we gotta be ready for that. And they want to so far and you know it. Czar chance here to kind of pull him back. Close the gap. Certainly that it's fun. You know, all these games were playing their divisional games so and dippy playing divisional games against the Detroit Red Wings. That's pretty fun looking forward to it. All right. And finally, the play of Kevin Lincoln in from that game against the Florida Panthers, of course, was in overtime loss, but he got his first NHL start. You've used all three of your goaltenders right now, First of all your appraisal of Kevin Lankans performance in that game, and who gets the nod tonight in between the pipes. Yeah, we're gonna go back with them. Uh, you know, I thought he was solved for us and made some big saves. You can think of a couple in particular, You know, the one in overtime. After rush and It's he's got a confidence to him. Um, that can transfer to the team and we want to see what he does with the follow up opportunity here, so excited to see The response from him. Well, that sounds like a great plan. Jeremy, I want to wish you and the boys all the best of luck here tonight in the home opener against the Detroit Red Wings. Go get him. Thank you. "Here with your Hawks free game is Chris Boden. Well was 5.5 years ago that the Tampa Bay Lightning We're just two wins away from a Stanley Cup only Be denied by the Black Hawk says they captured their third cup in six years. But it seemed only a matter of time for that Talented bolts team. But in a textbook example of how difficult it is to win the Stanley Cup, they swung and missed four more times before finally raising above their heads. September 28th after a couple of months. In bubble life. Tonight, they get to raise the banner without fans in Emily Arena, while the Blackhawks begin the next chapter and trying to build themselves back up to what the lightning now own and what they previously owned three times in those six years, they 56 game four month sprint of regular season starts tonight for the Blackhawks, the bolts and eight other teams. Good evening, everyone and Welcome to the Fanduel, Chicago Blackhawks pregame show. Living up tonight's contest between the Black Hawks and the Lightning in Tampa Bay. John Wadham enjoy Marie are standing by to bring you the call here in our WGN studios coming up in less than an hour, but let's dive into our Black Hawk story lines. It is January 13th, which is not only opening night this year, but Jeremy Carlton's birthday every year, And on the eve of his 36th birthday, the Blackhawks and Stan Bowman announced a two year contract extension through the 2022 23 season. Connor Murphy has been a Blackhawk for the duration of Jeremy's time here. It's a hard situation for anyone being coached stuff to step in mid season and then let alone with after cues such a Um, experience and big name and had so much success here and then on a team that has some older players to that are similar to his age. So I imagine that that would be hard, hard todos with and I think he's handled it well and definitely can see his comfort level and still has confidence in what he has to teach us and even teach those guys. Was older guys in our team, So that's a big part of of it. And imagine that was probably a hard hard thing. Toe come into, and and I think you know it really well as we welcome in Troy Murray from down the hallway again is that we said he and John continue. On the road games of the season, at least to start off monitors here in our studios. Jeremy still hasn't had a full normal season since he's taken over here after three Novembers ago when he took over and he won't this season, but his future has been removed from being, you know, potential distraction. He has certainly grown. We've all watched him in shown promise, as you know, now, unbelievably, he is the league's 14th current longest tenured head coach, and, you know now he looks to develop the players. The Hawks will continue to try to bring in under his watch. I think if you're Jeremy College in this is a real good move for the organization. You need some stability for so long you had you know Joel Quenneville here and everybody knew when she coming into the season. What to expect from Joe Quinn villain? And for Jeremy, you mentioned of you, man. It's been tough on him. You look at it. Ah, tough season When he comes in to replace Cube last year, the season was canceled or postponed. I should say this year's starting late and everything That's kind of gone into Jeremy Collins owns 10 Year here just hasn't been smooth, but it's a It's a big statement. I think from from the Blackhawks down Bowman and the organization That they need some stability. You need that same voice here. Give him an opportunity, especially some of these younger players coming in that they only know Jeremy College and they didn't know Joe Quinn Ville, so give him that opportunity. He's got a two year extension, which is good for him. I know that he's probably excited about that opportunity to continue on here as the head coach of the Blackhawks, and I think it's a real smart move by the organization. Yeah, And we know by now this unique schedule will be mostly played out in two games sets in each city. With a few exceptions, such as You know, the Hawks will host Tampa Bay for three straight home games. That's the lone exception in their schedule, but the league and the players they have to do what they must. Theo get a season in these continuing unique times. And that is something that lost on Connor is as he and his teammates prepared open against the reigning champs. Yeah, I'm excited to be finest. It's ah! Different year with this this alignment, So be cool Toe. Tonto, kick it off, And I think that's the game's all definitely mean a lot. Winner lose with each one of them. You're you're playing those teams so often that you gotta be able to take have Ah, lot of takeaways from the games and no, um How to take advantage of how to play against certain guys and certain matchups. So it'll be fun to grow within that way against each of the teams on obviously fresh field to go down and being in January, get some sun right away and in Florida and start out theirs is different than what we're used to. So it's a good opportunity for all of us. Well counter better not spend too much time in the sun. He says, Fair skinned guy, so we don't want him put on the air not allowed out of the hotel. Unfit unfit list. Do this, son. Burned, but Yeah, Detroit. It's the same seven opponents eight times each. I don't know if you could have stood Cindino sister really eight times in four months. But, yeah, you know, Nashville in Dallas, They're the only teams from the most recent makeup of the central who remain in there with the Hawks that many meetings against the same opponent over and over and over. That means we're probably gonna see some ill will between now and May 8th when the regular season wraps up, I hope so. E really do because that means that you're playing the right way and you're getting under the skin and you develop those rivalries by playing a lot of times. You know, back in the old days of the North Division. The rivalry was really established in the postseason. You played a lot of teams on a regular basis of division heavy schedule, but the rivalry was always developed in the postseason, and when you're going to play a team eight times It's going to be interesting to see how that rivalry develops. You don't have much of a anonymous city with the Carolina Hurricanes. You don't have that with Tampa with Florida, so you're quickly gonna gonna get used to that a little bit more. As you play into this season, especially with the back to back Sometimes three games in a row against the same team on bat will be a situation where players if they get hindered, feel that somebody's taken liberties, you'll take a number and wait your opportunity, and I think this is for a coach. It's going to be different as well. A lot of times. During A normal season. When you're only playing Tampa one time you might go over their power play their penalty killing, but you really kind of concentrate on what you need to do as a team to be successful, and that's against Tampa. That's against everybody else. But Like when you play a team in the playoffs. It's like you're going to play a playoff with these teams During the regular season, you will find that coaches will get more into the tendencies of the opposition team just because you're going to be playing him a lot more. On a regular basis, and I think that's kind of important when you factor in how these teams will prepare for one another when you're seeing town, but you really want to break down their game. You want to look at how they attack how they four check You wouldn't really normally do that to the level that you would this year s so there's a lot of factors going into playing a team that many times and certainly when you're playing that you want that animus the animosity. You want a little bit of hatred developed between the two teams and, you know, for your sake, taking a look at this is glass half full. It's good that you're here in the studios because the saves your four trips to Detroit, right?.
