They weren't met. And he knows that, but Hey, listen, It's much easier as he says to try and in Fort reinforce something when you've got a bunch of guys that are feeling pretty good that they won the game, but you can't let them get too far above the curve here and say, you know, we're playing good just because we won. So you know, you have to be better and you give credit to Detroit. I mean, they're working hard and it's been a tough season for them to start and it's been a better season for the Blackhawks to start. Um But you have to be better and for 60 minute performance. It shows you when you play the right way and how you play the right way can make a big difference in the outcome of a game. And he was bang on talking about some park management issues and not getting pucks in when they needed to do what Not sustaining enough offensive zone time. They defended a lot in this game and Su bin You know, he said he didn't want to critique. I mean, he basically did critique of when he says, You know, he was maybe the difference in the game because he was he was great. But you want to count your goaltender to make the difference in the Blackhawks have gotten great goaltending from Lincoln and Malcolm Suban in his last three starts. You like that part of the equation, But I think for a coach, it's a little bit disheartening. I don't know. Maybe you play down a little bit to your level, but I mean, I don't think the Blackhawks are in a position where they could look down on teams that they've been able to have some success here, maybe some unexpected success throughout the league. But at the same time, this is a process that they're building on. Some of the younger players were good in this game. They made some mistakes. I think there's a lot more to give on some of the veteran side of the equation here that you're still waiting for. On outburst of solid play, but at the same time, I think that you like the fact that that this group is learning together and they're gonna learn good and they're gonna learn bad. But you got to reinforce and again. This is an easy game. You could break down in the tape. Matt meet you will break it down and they'll look at the mistakes that they made that put themselves in a position to not be successful, and they had enough guys to pick up slack. "Yours truly Chris Boden joining you, we will be joined in a few minutes by Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Carlson, and he's coming off a win last night. He and 21 22, maybe even more other guys. Three won the final over the Columbus Blue Jackets and Next second straight Monday. We, You know, we have a game to talk about in which you know, we we both came away impressed it Last week's instance they were coming off of victory over Detroit. We want to see how they would handle that tasting success for the first time, and they came up with an even better effort against the Red Wings in that Sunday afternoon match up And this Monday. They fall the Columbus Friday 2 to 1 in the game. They probably easily could have win in some cases may have deserved to win. How would they react to that when they get frustrated or what? It's further our spur them on even more to and even better performance, But the latter is what we saw last night in the 31 victory. Yeah, Listen, I love the I love the adaptability of this group. And I know we're going to talk about it later a little bit, and we'll get into it with coach too. But when you think about the situation that these guys have been in this year, it's really impressive where they're at. I mean, Like I've said a million times the shortened training camp the weird summer right into a, you know, a season of some some uncertainty. And then on top of all of that, you've got a virtually half of the line of brand new and different guys in different looks and then a taxi squad and Ah, complete changeover in your goaltending situation from last year, So the fact that these guys have been able to do what they've done and to be where they're at right now, I think is very impressive. Yeah, they're a little bit below 500 at the moment, but keep in mind. I've got nine points there. Two points off the top of that off the top of that division. And on top of that they have nine points, which is the same as the Tampa Bay Lightning. You're Stanley Cup champion from last year, so everything if these guys are doing is the right thing, but take take numbers and stats aside and get rid of that. I just like the way that this this team has complained playing, and I like the way that this team is competing on a night in night out base. Yeah, there's there's just so many wild cards in the equation here this year that that everyone just kind of has to keep an open mind roll with the punches. Is, and I think that's very much with this Black Hawks team has done since opening up in the All those first four games in Florida, where a little bit bumpy, but it's about growing and taking incremental steps game by game and again. It's not always gonna be linear and smooth and the arrow pointing upward. There's going to be setbacks here and there just by the makeup of this club, but You like the direction that they have been taking in the consistency. They are gradually beginning to show and coming up this week, you know, I mean to other, you know big dogs who have been impressive here from a postseason standpoint lately. Carolina coming to the United Center for Games Tuesday and Thursday nights off to Dallas to take on The Stanley Cup runner up for the first time this season, coming up on Sunday and then the following Tuesday, So we're gonna take our first break here. "You know, I've got this guy or tried and that's where I'd like to go in and talk to those players and say, Like I use saying that I've got this guy Are you saying Take this guy pointing at him? I'm a little bit confused on that. But again, national tried almost the exact same place several times in the Blackhawks still had a hard time defending at the Reed was not there. If you look at the other side of the equation, the Blackhawks haven't had those Those type of opportunities because national never broke down in either one of these games. "They have to have a mindset here that when you get in the offensive zone, spend some more time in that area. But when you have the opportunity, you've got to get bodies and park to the Net. And boy it just When you look at the gold look at the goals that they scored against Detroit, and they had five even strength goals in that last game, and you sit here and say, Well, Jeepers, we're going to the net and throw in the park to the Met. There's rebounds there. We're doing what we need to do. And all of a sudden it it it went right out the window. So you got attacked the middle of the ice tonight against Nashville, and I don't know why they've had such lack of success and scoring against national. Yeah, the Ah good team. They basically rolled with four defenseman. They didn't really play there. Third pairing. In the game last night, And when you've got Yoshi and Alison that comb and Fabbro out there, you got to make it tough on them. You gotta make them defend a lot more and use up some energy and their own into the ice, so they don't have the energy and the offensive side of it because those big fork back there Nashville expect them to play a lot of ice time tonight. But if it's an easy amount of ice time because they're not working hard, not battling. That's bad for the Blackhawks for those six goals on Sunday against Detroit, came below the dots. Well, he instilled some confidence in the coaching staff with the way he worked in the off season since he put on about 80 £10 still not a big defenseman. He won't be all his. You know, Bread and butter is going to come with his stick work in his footwork and reading plays and he gets another opportunity here tonight, And I know Jeremy Carlson very complimentary. I think he was tempted earlier on to insert Bohdan into the lineup. The opportunity here comes tonight. What have you seen from him and training camp compared to previous camps. I think there's a different confidence level and an awareness of how you have to play in the NHL. When you first come in you. You really have no idea. You have no clue. What it takes to play in the NHL. And that comes over coming into training camp, Seeing how guys like Duncan Keith on the blue line, Brent Seabrook, the veteran players prepare themselves and how hard they have to work Tonto shin themselves to play at at this level, and that's something that for the younger players, they just don't understand. They think they work out hard, but they don't understand how hard they actually Have to commit to what you do in the off season, and it sounds like Bohdan did that this offseason. He put on some weight. He said that he feels better that way. And I think Justin awareness of how the game is played at this level. Is something that that he can build on from the lessons that he's learned when he's been in camp when he's been in the all of the groups with it with the veteran players, So you know, we'll see what happens tonight. Looks like Jeremy Colton is gonna roll seven defenseman I thought last night when you had some guys on the blue line struggling Um, that it was tougher for Sheldon Brooke Banked who runs the defense and Jeremy College in to find guys who were ready to go out there who were playing at a level that you needed to have. So actually much time was they spent in their own zone last night. What When you look around the division, the Hawks in the wings are the only two of the eight teams who haven't had to reschedule games. And condensed the schedule even more. You just hope other teams stay healthy enough as well, including the Hawks. I know the Blackhawks, like most of the teams in the NHL are taking this very seriously as follows as far as the protocol that they have to follow. In Chicago and on the road, and that's all they could do. They can abide by the rules do the best that they can and and hope for the best. It's gonna happen. You're naive to think that it's not gonna happen. So you know for the Blackhawks her like every other team that the depth this season For all teams in the NHL are really going to come into play. If you look at the goaltending situation, a lot of teams air scrambling around for that third gold tender because all of a sudden Wow, we need this guy. We need that guy. Taxi squads, whatever it is. They put the taxi squad in place for just this very reason, and you're going to see it all season long and it's just it is what it is. And the next man up mentality is the right attitude. For all the teams to have. There's nothing you could do. Washington. Had Ovechkin and whose nets off off the other night. They weren't in the lineup, a couple other guys as well in same covert protocol, and they want a game. So it Z all about your attitude. If you hang your head and say, Oh, man, we're missing a couple key players will always us. You're not gonna get any results. You just have to look forward. And for a coaching staff. Hey, you coach the players that are on the bench. There's nothing more that you could do. You can't worry about anything else. You coach the players that you have on. That's the approach that I think every team has to have. Not Only Chicago. As we said, we circled back now, to some of our our catch words and phrases that I think we're already close to two wearing out two weeks in, but Things like next challenge next step. It's about carrying the way that Ryan Carpenter and company played in the two wins, versus on upgrade in competition and now to do it on the road. We definitely needed to carry over those four games on the road. We didn't get The points that we wanted to. And so it was nice to come back home. Definitely different experience without fans, but that's just what it's gonna be this year. And, yeah, just just to get some wins and some confidence and tow feel like the things we're doing is leading to the reward. "Here for Chicago. Blackhawks hockey. Our final score here tonight was the Panthers five and the Hawks to the Blackhawks record now falls to 03. You know, on this young season, they'll get back together with this Florida Panther team on Tuesday night. And, uh, five goals has been the theme. Five goals allowed has been the theme for the Blackhawks so far. Roy and I were talking about that just a little while ago, something that they could work on, among other things, they did connect on the power play here tonight, and aside from the fact that the Panthers did get elite power play goal. It looks like the penalty. Kilis is improving to the point where at some point it might go on a run of the number of games where they don't allow a goal. But all of that aside, there is plenty to work on for Jeremy Collison and his crew and they'll get back. They'll get back to work as soon as tomorrow. They can't get frustrated. It's not the start that they were looking for two tough games against Tampa and This one here in the season opener for the Florida Panthers. It was a good first period. But if you flip the table here And you look at Florida mean they haven't played a whole lot. So when they got into this game, Hey, let's you know, let's work our way into it. Let's be smart in the first period and no score in the first period and They were able to get some separation, the second period, so I think Joe Quinn will be pretty happy with the outcome of this game. In the way his team battled and continue to get better. And for the Blackhawks, they still got to find a way to play that 60 minute game. Too many opportunities. Ah, simple center Lane Dr. Kind of missed assignment on a rush coming up the ice got the Florida Panthers there last two goals. And that was the separation that they were looking for. The Blackhawks had some good momentum to build on after they tied the game on the foreign Force situation. But right after that. It was Florida regaining the lead quickly, and I think that that was the big old boy. How many times do we talk about it, John that that important shift right after scoring a goal or getting scored on response from from Florida was tremendous, and rather than the Blackhawks being able to build on some momentum, it was quickly taken away from him, and they just didn't seem like they ever recovered After that. We'll put that on the list of things to work for, and the ditch. Well, they almost had a lead on a goal by Patrick King, but he was called for offsides on it. And once again the Blackhawks. It's tough, always playing from behind, and that's what they have found themselves in in every game. Every situation they finally caught up tonight. But once they caught up, it certainly didn't last. Very long, Just tough circumstances to try and dig yourself out of this hole. But they have no choice here coming down coming Tuesday night to close out this road trip? No, I mean it's It's frustrating. And, um, you know, losing the first three games of the year. The way that they have lost these games. There's been some moments of what you like to see if you're the head coach, and there's ah moment. There's lots of moments in these games that you've got to work on as a head coach. With the players, but you know again, I thought the first period was good. I thought they did an excellent job shots. They only had five shots on goal, but they had on those five shots. They had some good opportunities. You feel bad for calling Delia And you've kind of felt bad for the goaltender's, You know, throughout these first three games, Duncan Keith Redirects one in front of the net. They've changed that a couple times now and they've given it to Ekblad. They originally gave it to her. Hey, G, but it never got You never went off the stick of her. Hey, get went off the stick of Duncan Keith. Not much You can do if you're goaltenders when those happen another play a middle name drive, And if you're the Blackhawks, you could certainly take a page out of what Florida did well in this game. That middle eight lane drive was effective and they scored a couple goals off of it. Calvin don redirected one between the legs. Of Calling Delia and not much you can do there, but they have to find a way to play full 60 minutes and they have to have big shifts. After Connor Murphy scored to tie this game, up four on four It only took 20 seconds. 22 seconds later where Lusa Ryan and broke through and on a 212. And you know Duncan Keys, a veteran defenseman, but I don't know where he was on this play to begin with, But there's no way that Looser right and should be able to find that open space and he buried it with a real good shot past Delia, but that that can't happen. It's just a two on two through the neutral zone. All of a sudden, it's a glorious scoring opportunity. Horn quest from the sideboards throws one in towards the front of the net. There was net fronts presence there who bird always there. But Calvin don trying to defend on that redirected it between the legs of Colin Delia. But by Florida throwing guys towards the front of the net, it creates that havoc, and I need to see more of that from The Blackhawks more effort around the front of the Net. T Get yourself in those shooting lanes to create the the screen. Look for those 2nd and 3rd opportunities too many times what we've seen here in the first three games. Well, the Blackhawks open the season against the last team to win the Stanley Cup, the Tampa Bay Lightning and they drop old contest much more competitive night. Tonight. The final score of 5 to 2 is Tampa scores. A couple of late goes to pull away and put this one away. Taking the post came up until 9 30 tonight and we will dip in and out of some live coverage of postgame zoom interviews. With the Black Hawks down in Tampa Bay, and I appreciate Troy Marie's patients as we go through some Q and a with him as we listen to some of the reaction from the players and perhaps head coach Jeremy Carlson, by the time we're done here at 9 30 But Troy some good some bad to talk about now, once a bad but still areas of progress that need to be made. Let's start with the good because they got some offense from their offensive guys that are going to need to deliver tonight. I thought the line combinations from top to bottom or a lot more dangerous tonight with the help of, you know, a little bit of juggling and with the insertion of Philip Kirsch, Abou That looked pretty good out there tonight. Yeah, sure. Mike is active. You go ahead. Hey, Alex. I know that the result is that what you will get Detroit a minute, Alex to break it, meeting with the media right now, You guys feel that way? Yeah, I think we did way. Had a lot more puck possession. Uh, obviously still them playful. 60 had a few breakdowns there in the second. Go down three. Nothing. Uh And then in the third as well, when we need to score a goal. Uh yeah. Think way. Didn't play full 60. Is that gonna be the biggest challenge this season with so many young guys, new guys and getting that full 60 minute effort? Is that going to be the challenge? Um, you know, right now, it seems like it is I mean last game. We obviously didn't play that. Well, um, I'm dinner's on a lot, then. This game. I thought we came out strong. You know, the second period just killed us. We had to try to dig herself. Edible Hall had a few chances. Had a few power plays couldn't convert we needed to and that was the game. Myself. Misfortune problem. Early your lines active in Go ahead. Hey, Alex. You guys obviously fallible behind three to nothing for the second straight game. But do you guys like did you guys like to push back that you showed, unlike the first game Yeah, I think that's ah. You know, it's good effort out of us. But at the same time we should never fall down three. Nothing, I think. We gotta worked, You know, work part all all game and, um not have to dig ourselves out of that hole. How nice was it to convert on that power play really like 30 40 seconds into it and get some momentum. Yeah. So it's nice when you can, um, move the puck around getting a job and pulling in. I think we still gotta work on. Obviously, when we're down, 32. We had a few power plays, um, didn't convert. So, um, I'm still gonna be better. Exiles. We'll take one more for Alex Ben Pope with Chicago Sun times Your life is active and you go ahead. Alex after the sort of frustrating year you had last year as it nice to to personally get a few points on the board early on in the season, and maybe just set a better tone for this season. Yeah. I mean, obviously it's nice, but it points up, but, uh, you know, we're here to win games. Uh, try to do anything. I can't help. Team win. Um I think she got my heart and, you know, hopefully build some confidence and be good every night. Thank God that's Alex. The brink. I know you had your finger up your mouth was open. You're about to answer it. That we heard from Alex. But let's talk about that offense, looking a little bit better tonight. As I thought, I thought the line combinations and and the debut of Curry Chef, Sure, help things out and made make the Hawks little bit more dangerous tonight. Well, they ended up having 35 shots on goal so that that's AH, Big, plus and You know to break it talked about it. Hey, said not a full 60 minutes And I think that for a young team that has some experience on it in experience on it that you're gonna have to deal with these growing pains. You make a mistake and for calling dearly, you feel bad. He started off extremely good. He was playing while seeing the park well and communication problem between him and Duncan. Keith Results in an easy goal to start Kappa on a three goal run where the Blackhawks just couldn't find a way to toe stop that, And that's where you you, miss, Um, a guy like even even Brent Seabrook, who understands the key moments of the game. Jonathan tapes in that situation, those type of players could be out there to slow things down to solidify how you need to play. You're asking a lot from some of these younger players to fill that and they got to find a way to be better in those key moments of a hockey game and not let like they're talking about in Game one. These brief spans in a hockey game. That really hurt them, and they again happened to them in the second period, where Tampa scored the three quick goals and just under six minutes, you can't have that happen. And you have to take that personally that the golden moments in a in a hockey game. The opening man at the last minute of the period when you score a goal, and when you get scored upon those air key moments, and the coach has to have AH lot of trust in that next line that personnel that has sent out after any of those situations. It should be very Proud moment when you get to start a game, and in the last minute of a period when you get tapped on the shoulder, you got to take that the heart that you're not going to let anything bad happen and when there's a goal scored, whether it's so whether you score the goal. And that same line stands out there. You gotta you gotta know that you want to have a shift. Keep the mo mentum on the flip side of it. If campus scores the goal that next shift, you have to come out there with the purpose. Of taking the momentum away. Now, I think it's going to be easier to do that this year because of the lack of fans in the emotion inside the buildings, but we didn't see it the first two games and again. Tampa's They're really good. Game. But like Alex was saying too many mistakes and they're on the wrong side of the park on occasions and Tampa's good enough to make you pay in.
