"I think sure fields transition to big 12 is maybe a bit smoother, a bit more productive, a bit more efficient than maybe a schumi when you consider really the bigs that are playing around this league. I think Iowa state will again look to slug you out and win that way. And also burger will thrive off of people doubting his team, me picking him 9th. He has been cleared. He will play a Kansas state this season. This is a player who, before the heart issue, was projected as an MBA pick and a top 40 pick, if not a first round pick there. So we'll see how much burn he gets, how effective he is. And if his presence on that team, among others, desi sills is a big transfer on that on that team as well from Arkansas state. We'll see how they do, but Kansas state fairly and objectively has to be has to be bringing up the caboose. You got any thoughts on the cyclones before we make our awards picks here? Well, the other not so great thing at Iowa state, you know, losing all the pieces that it lost. Jeremiah Williams has a torn Achilles. He's a transfer and that's obviously not helpful. So a bit of an uphill battle for TJ, but not any more uphill than it looked this time last year. But he had, I believe, the most surprising team in the country. And so bet against him at your own risk. With Kansas state, the county George thing, you know, heading into the season where he collapsed. I think he was preseason SEC player of the year. He was supposed to be great. And obviously that was a scary, scary moment. I'm not going to pretend to be a doctor. I mean, I might pretend to be a doctor. Do you have many times? In fact, I have. I have actually pretended to be a doctor. But on this specific case, I will take my stethoscope. Is that what doctors wear? Yes. Do they steal though? Do they still wear those? We got cleared to play Kansas state. What I hope obviously is that the kante George moved to the big 12 goes just as awesomely as the Jared butler moved to the big 12 did. All right, preseason projections on coach of the year player of the year freshman of the year and whatever order GPU go first. I'm going to go code to the year Scott drew. Because I've got him projected to win the big 12. And if you win three straight big 12 titles like Baylor, then you're the coach of the year. Stop, stop it. I'm going to go Chris beard for coach of the year having Texas finished second and listen, I'm going to come out and say it. Scott true, you endorse a 120 18 tournament. I'm not voting you for coach of the year this year. I'm going to go ahead and say it. Scott drill would never turn my back on you like that. You can expand to 400 teams if you want, then I'm still I'm still going to be on the side of Scott drew. And Baylor is one of the schools so closely and directly associated with this podcast. And we'll continue to be. But I say it in jest, and yet not. So Chris beard gets my preseason coach of the year. Nod. Player of the year? Timmy Allen, give it to me. Timmy Allen will win player of the year, Texas key, big man, do it all forward because Texas will get to second in the league. Timmy Allen will lead the league and scoring and by nature of that, he gets player of the year narrowly over the likes of the guys I mentioned earlier, canto George could be in that group. Kevin mcculler, Texas, Mike miles at TCU. Freshman of the year obviously has to be Quinta George. He sets up as the best one. If you're looking for a non George name, I mean, maybe we Texas has got a couple of good players there again. We talked about them more on the Texas episode. But maybe Grady Vic steps off right onto the campus off the bench and averages 16 points a game as a freshman and is one of the best three point shooters in the conference. "So the Iowa state bodies. Coming to Ames Iowa. TJ Alzheimer has added a couple of saint bonaventure players via the transfer portal, Jaron Holmes, shooting guard who averaged 13 and a half points 5 rebounds 3.6 assists this past season. He's headed to Iowa state and osun, a who is a two time Atlantic ten defensive player of the year. Really good player. 11.3 .7 .5 rebounds 2.9 blocks per game this past season. Both have committed to Iowa state. So this is interesting. Iowa state fans, some were really upset they thought it was the end of college basketball as we know it. A few weeks back, when Tyree hunter entered the transfer portal. And one that we talked about it here on the podcast, one of the things I tried to explain is that this is just going to be the way it is with the one time transfer waiver. And you're going to lose some to, you know, that you want to keep. And you're going to get some that other people wanted to keep, or you're going to, it'll all work itself out. You might lose your best player or best returning player to a situation that that player deems better or preferable. But you'll got to be able to pull from other places. And if we want to start creating tiers of college basketball, perhaps there's the blue blood tier, and then there's like other power conference schools here. So we'll throw Iowa state in there. And then there's everything below it, which with all due respect, might be the saint bonaventure tier. Mark Smith, incredible job there. But it's a hard job. It's a difficult job in a league outside of the traditional power structure. So I will state loses a player, I'm sure it wanted to keep on some level to the transfer portal, but as predicted TDIs burger, it's doing just fine. Reloading. And this is just going to be the way the sport works. And, you know, I bet you, even the Iowa state fans who thought the transfer port on the one time transfer waiver were the worst thing in the history of college athletics a few weeks ago, I bet they're not feeling so bad about it right now. Yeah, they've got to be feeling pretty good. It's a huge addition. A journalist, I think, is going to be a difference maker. He's a fantastic shot maker, but a junior to me if it's a fits and need for Iowa state 6 foot ten. I think one of the best shot blockers in all of college basketball. And average 2.9 blocks per game, each of the last two seasons, two time a ten defensive player of the year. He was top 15 last season in block rate at 12.1%, just for reference, Ted holmgren, who we've been talking about as a potential number one pick. Was 12.6% in block rate last season. So that ranked tenth in the country. So in terms of what he's going to bring to the table for Iowa state, he brings shot blocking. That's really what Iowa state lack last season. And guess what? Iowa state was really good on defense last season, despite not having that. They were top 5, according to Ken palm's efficiency metrics. So adding him, I think, is going to be a huge difference. Obviously, I was state set to lose tyrese hunter. You're going to lose Isaiah brockington, but they're bringing in no sunnier Holmes. There are also adding transfer from temple and Jeremiah Williams and VCO forward Hassan ward. They're also enrolling three top 200 high school recruits and Gabe coucher is expected to come back. So in TRE king as well. He transferred from Georgetown. I think during the season and he'll be eligible. So it'll be a new cast of characters, but this is I think Iowa state. It's the main reason I wanted to bring this up. This is not about Iowa state. It's just that the Iowa state situation, the way this off season is unfolded is a pretty good reflection of the state of college basketball. You're going to lose a player that you probably wanted to keep. And then it's your job as a basketball coach to go out and try to replace those players. By getting guys that I'm sure other schools wanted to keep. And, you know, and TJ has done a really good job at that. Given what he did after getting the Iowa state job last off season, how quickly he used the transfer portal to take Iowa state from a two win program to an NCAA tournament program. That should have suggested to everybody, like this guy is going to be able to operate in the space and he'll be just fine. And, you know, so this shouldn't be a surprise. But still, I just think the roller coaster ride Iowa state fans have been on this off season is a pretty good reflection of what it's going to be like for a lot of basketball problems. There's going to be a day where you curse the transfer portal because you just lost somebody you want to keep. And then there's going to be another day where you're like, woohoo. I love this transfer portal. We just got a two time AT&T defensive player of the year. Yeah, no, that's exactly right. That's exactly right. And this is kind of reflective of the college basketball landscape at large right now, where you're going to lose players. But programs are adding from the transfer portal at such a rate now that you can lose players, you can lose stars and you can still get back really quality players. I was state, they may take a slight step back, losing tyrese hunter. But I do think they're going to be able to replace at least some of this production. And the talent that they're adding elsewhere on top of who they're bringing back. Maybe they don't take a step back next year. Well, let me ask you, let me ask you this. Yeah. Hand a, I give you tyrese hunter. Hand B, I give you Jared Holmes and Osuna shooting a, which hand you want. Do you have your feet? What you got in your feet? I can't show you my feet. Now to get too weird. That would get too good. Aaron Rodgers. Yeah. Shoot, I think I'd rather have tyrese hunter, but yeah, probably, but like, yeah, probably, but it's not like obvious. I'm just saying no, that's right. Yeah. Yeah, like, you know, you probably got two players neither of whom are as gifted as tyrese hunter, but you got two really good players. You know, they have come in since, since you lost tyrese hunter. And you're fine. You're fine. Yeah, I don't know where Iowa state will be at this point in the season. Or a year. I sort of look at top 25 and one candidates. And I don't really look much past that right now. So every once in a while, you want to put a situation in some of the so how do you think Penn State is going to do? Well, I've got to take a closer look at that because you're either on my top 25 and you're not on my radar. And so I don't have Iowa state as a top 25 and one contender. But you start looking at how the roster's taking shape and.

Two hundred high-rollers juice finished in second which is Obviously great performance but at the same time man you gotta be like both getting another. One was new jersey grinders. Who has just just seems like a matter of time before he breaks through. He's come close twice now and and just falls a little short david peters almost one another race that he finished in fifth place for forty. Four thousand dollars also jeremiah williams. I was really happy to see it. When he made the final table about man it would be great. This is something that's gonna continue in my opinion. Dave yeah i think it is too and We'll see what happens with the world series moving to the fall world series starts on. September the thirtieth. And we'll be following all that of course but right now to fill the void is the wpa online event. That i mentioned. And i just wanted to touch on a few things. One of the most interesting things i've found From this whole tournament was The since it's being played online you know. Obviously the players have their names. And i think some of the names that the players use have been pretty funny and you know informative really about their personalities. A little bit Kathy lee gifford has been playing very well She recently followed us on twitter. are tweets on twitter so That was interesting to me and a lot of big name players doing very well Winning the The one of the monster stack which was one of the first. Big events was manny gloser and Just a couple of names. I just wanted to pass along. was ryan apollo who Who was the guy who won the The online tournament from the parking lot at a whole foods. I think it was up in new jersey. New york came into new jersey or something right right. Joey is a mush. That's his name online Nick schulman bubble this tournament but his his online name is cash. Us clay cassius. Clay and i thought was pretty good and then of course you got A bunch of other guys Andrew lichtenberger doesn't play as lucky chewy. Places watch guy forty two Kathy lee bird's name is lucky gal and You know you learn a little bit about some of these people with some of these tournaments but That was a win for manic. Loeser in that one Jeremiah williams won the thousand dollar buying eight max event Matt stout played very well in that tournament. He ended up finishing in sixth place. Was it No fourth place wanting forty one thousand jeremiah. Williams was a winner. One hundred thirty six and The whole Basically the whole scene online is really kind of Brought people out. And i thought it's it's it's done pretty well. Listen like we said before. I think people would just jonesing to get out there and do all of this so I think we'll be talking about a lot of these tournaments getting bigger and bigger and you know as as we keep going on In the very near future on our show some of the players just use another Another player's name. There's one guy who uses. His nickname is still ivy online. Which probably scares the hell. Out of some people you got Scott davies who plays his miami kane and Jamie kerr steadier uses. Dan bills area is her as her screen. Name that's amazing way. I'm having fun. They can have fun with that. That's one of the great things another question. Anyway that goes on thirty three tournaments in the schedule and they'll be playing Let's see until november right over while november is the is the main this live event anyway. i don't i don't have the couple of well here. It is august first through august. First event thirty three is the final event. There they're still a high roller for thirty two hundred dollars. Buy in but most of these are in the range of four hundred to six hundred dollars. So pretty affordable When people play on waso p dot com commingled pools there with the different groups. But There's a story coming out of germany that There's been harsh restrictions put on a lot of the players over there so a lot of players have moved out of germany to other you locations. Here's some of the things that have happened there. They have created a tax five point three percent turnover tax so this is in addition to the regulations that they put in place last fall when they wouldn't allow german citizens to play more than four tables deposit more than a thousand euros per month on a site or select their own seats. A cash game tables so Players are just fed up and have gone elsewhere. There's the government getting involved against as a result poker stars raising their rake. They've eliminated a lot of the high stakes offerings from german players and You know it's it's it's basically you know they're cutting their own throat. Basically with these decisions. I think well listen Once the government gets involved in these things for the most part. It's it's never a good thing for the players. So yeah they said in No limit and pot limit games with blinds of one dollar to dollar and also limit games with three and six. The rake has been increased to thirty five percent. God that'll kill the game quickly. So i guess part of it is whether where you're from too because they said if there's a split pot between a german and a non-german player. The german player will pay more warren. Rake than the other.
