"After the food kiosks of clothes. That's the thing in there. They loved. I mean, I love the doubles here. They love a home player, but yeah, it is so. You don't need it. I'm not nothing about that man. But I agree. The lateness of it all. Crowd and those players won't be put through, you know, whole evening of waiting and wondering, and anyway, day session on that court, nuria produces Diaz against Donna vekic, then under Rublev against Dan Evans, interesting one that, sabalenka mertens third on, there there of course doubles partners or have been doubles partners lots in the past one slams together. And then it is the trauma. The anxiety, the sleep deprivation that is, Andy Murray, against Roberto, Bautista ragu. How is this happening? What's on the John Cana arena tomorrow Hugo and Berg and holger una Lexi popper in against Ben Shelton, the sitter past brothers, a playing in doubles of the care arena. I had no idea they were entered. Yeah. Stephanie got their first planned slam wins. Petros has won a Grand Slam match. Wonder who did the work? Do you think he has signed autographs that he gives out as well? Oh, if he does, I want one. I really want one and I want to post it. Nothing would surprise me. I bet he does. JJ Wolfe, Michael Moe. Stephane said that no tennis player works as hard as petros. Yeah? Yeah, actual quote. Sorry, Rafa. Caroline Garcia Laura sick when that is on care arena. We have a fruit of a Linda against market of Andrew shiver and intrigued by that 1573. And Katie volley next, that's the one I was looking for. And Tommy Paul against Jensen Brooks B that's on course three tomorrow. Both for paying doubles. Tomorrow. Tommy Paul against Jenson brooksby feels like a bit of an aggro place to be. I think all the places that Jens and brooksby goes are potentially a great place. Which gives people up. Brooksby is not one of the Bros. He's not in the gang. And he's okay with it. I love that. I want to see that. Marissa curry has not got the job done and she's got a lead at the moment. So it's all hold on to everything. Hold on to your hats, folks. Thank you. That's 6 years ago. She a young thanks so much. And finally, we've got Stefan, I'm not sure how to pronounce this surname. Maybe in odor, which is next to Zürich in Switzerland. Ah. Well, I've been to Zürich. I've been through it as I say Zürich. Stefan, like edberg, the old. In fact, I've been to Zürich with Stefan edberg. No, it's all good. We didn't travel together. I made that sound misleading. I've been in Zürich with Stefan edberg. What's Stephanie Burke like Catherine? Exactly as you'd expect. Lovely. Lovely doesn't age. Yeah. Actually, a bit of aggro between him and Gordon even is at the legends, the champion saw event I was working out there. It's a story for another time. This happened. Pre podcast days, Matt. I just remember I think it was like an early omen that we were going to have a podcast, because Catherine was very quickly in touch to tell me all about it. And we've got very excited. We'll tell you the punchline and I'll promise to tell the story in full on a podcast in the future. I'm getting good at these teases, aren't I? The punchline to the story is Goran even as throwing a runner's up trophy in the bin. And on that note folks. His plate is Blake. He doesn't like plates. On that note, folks, I'll say thanks for listening. Thanks for supporting to our Friends of the pod and we will speak to you tomorrow. It's today.

"You know, but if he crashes out to Jack Draper in straight sets, I will be bringing up the paddling pool thing. I reserve the right to bring up the paddling pool thing. Here's a question for you. Do you read anything into if you watch a warmup on court the knock up? And you see a player shanking or hitting a topspin forehand that lands in the bottom of the net. So something like that. Do you ever think, oh, that's amazing. I think if it's if it's clearly a sign of nerves, yeah, I agree. I assume that they'll come through that. For example, Alexei crow tech today in the final round of qualifying in the warm up and in the early games of the match, he was rubbish, completely different player what we ended up seeing in sets two and three. I was thinking, couldn't middle the ball at all. They weren't quite shanks, but the ball just didn't sound right off the racket. You could tell it wasn't coming out of the middle. And he was, you know, he was the biggest match of his life, biggest day of his whole life. You know, by qualifying today, he yearned more than his total career prize money to date. Wow. So no wonder, but yes, in that sort of instance, I think you can read into it. But I don't think you can read form from that kind of thing. But again, brackets reserve the right to raise the paddling pool thing. And we also know that form as match just detailed is not good in terms of his recent record. Yeah. Nor was it last year. I mean, I know he had won Melbourne one or two. Was it who could sign? Maybe Nadal's trophy says Melvin one or Melvin too. You'd want one of them. But then before that, it was on crutches. And you know, there are caveats to his form at the end of last year, weren't they never plays well indoors. Fairly sure. I did promise I would not have this type of conversation about no doubt again. Yeah. Every every slam I say I won't doubt on the dart again, and yet here we are. But I mean, the thing is, it's not just Draper. That makes his draw tough. You know, I think if he comes through Draper, he'll probably be playing quite well. But Francis TFO is a potential fourth round opponent who of course beat him at the U.S. open and then daniil Medvedev is a potential quarterfinal list. And okay, Nadal won last year's final, but it was kind of a miracle that he did. Medvedev was really on top of him for half of that match. It's tricky for Nadal. I really do think that it is even even potentially Brandon nakashima in the second round. He's got a great backhand nakashima and Nadal likes hitting his lefty forehand into players backends. And I think nakashima will be okay with that. So that sort of match up, I find quite interesting as well. So yeah, just tricky for Nadal, but fascinating to see how he how he tries to navigate it. The second quarter so a potential semifinal opponent for Nadal or Medvedev, who were the top seeds in that first quarter, he got Stefano sits a pass there. He faces contact at least in the opening round. I mean, it's busy as the favorite. But Elise's after being a sort of hotly tipped junior is finally starting to put a few results together, isn't he? The French man. He pushed Djokovic, last week, a couple of tiebreak sets, and he really was hurting job of it. He was 5 two up in the first set, probably should have probably should have won it. And I think it got to the quarters in Auckland this week. So yeah, he's playing quite well. That's a little bit tricky for sits a path. Lorenzo musetti is in this quarter as is Yannick sinner. They would potentially face off in the third round, which I think could be very interested is interesting indeed. Cameron norrie is in there that is TBC though, because he might be stuck in Auckland for the rest of his life. But where are they? Genuinely not sure if they'll ever finish that tournament. Well, he's into the semifinals to face Jenson brooksby at the time of recording the two other semifinalists and not known. And that this is half past 9 on Thursday and they're supposed to be playing tomorrow. Gasket and Goffin are just in a rain delay at the moment. And then I think laszlo gero is in the other quarterfinal. I can't remember who he's playing. He beat Casper Ruud. So a long way to go. A lot of matches have been moved indoors, but they're trying to blow as much of it outdoors as they can, because obviously they do due respect to the tournament, a lot of people are playing that to get practice for the Australian open and play themselves into form and indoor form is pretty different. So I feel for them over in Auckland, but we're all Cameron nori. And feed it socially seem down at the bottom of that second quarter of Azure possible countrymen for him in the opening round and a potential second round with stammer rinker. Anyone want to throw out some predictions into the ethos, see anything unexpected happening. What do we think the usual suspects are likely candidates are coming through? I do think, actually, you're seeing could be threatened in that section. I think he's vulnerable against whether it's nori or charge personally. I think that that's a tough section to be. And that not say can't, you can't come through it. I mean, I don't know, I kind of think norrie might be a marginal favorite to come through that section of the draw and end up facing sitter pass. That's how I feel about it. What do you think? I think Felix needs some Auckland rain, doesn't he? That would change the picture. I think I'll probably end up going with auger aliasing. But I don't disagree with your analysis, David. I think that's, that is a tricky, tricky section for him. I just sort of, come on, now is the time, Felix, to get through a really tough section like this and go really deep in a slam. We will find out a lot about him. Over the course of the next few days, maybe a couple of weeks we'll see, yeah, very interesting one to watch Felix augers theme, looking at the bottom half of the draw Andre Rublev is at the top of it. He's drawn Dominic team. In the opening round, I wanted a good draw for Dominic team. I want something to happen. I know Rublev lost yesterday in Adelaide to the Nazi kokina. On paper, not a great result, although kokina does seem to be an Adelaide specialist defending champion of course. I think one again tonight reached the semifinals again. Still though. That's a rubbish draw for Dominic team. I think the bigger point really is team. It's a bit like you were saying about Garcia. If Dominic team was Dominic team, that we remember. He would handle Andrei Rublev, no matter what rob left did. But the guy isn't the same player anymore. I'm afraid. And we've seen flickers of him reminding us of how good he used to be. But that's all we've seen. Really run to a semifinal and I think it was. We've seen some matches where he's hit the signature backhand and you just, you're still drool and pear over watching it. But he doesn't walk around with authority anymore. He doesn't walk around making you believe that he's got it all under control. My rational brain does accept that your right David, but I actually, I'm just not I'm not ready. I'm not ready yet. I'm going to stay in denial.

"Evans. Dan Evans? Incorrect. Oh no. I thought he won one before AO or was that 2021? John Evans not on the list. No. I can't no, I can't give you Dan Evans. I'm afraid. That's not a good way to go. I was contemplating. I don't think you said Daniel Medvedev. We should have said as well. Okay. So we have so many to give. All of those correct. You could have said RBA as well, Kim. I was going to go for a cheeky sonic go. Oh yeah, he probably won one ago on the list. Jenson brooksby. No Jenson brooksby. You could have had guile Monfils at the very start of the year. You could have had an issue. Alexander bublik, who I believe beat zverev and I was a gay man. It's early on in the season. Kim golden swing names for you, Ramos. Christian

"I mean, as a Sloan fan, it's something that you have to come out and without getting to. So frustrating. Yeah, it's frustrating, because I think everyone knows how good she is and how well she can play when she puts it together, how much power she has. And some of her shop making, it's almost like she said previously that it's very hard for her at times to dial it back and to find that balance. But I think it's a little bit reminiscent of the Sloan that didn't really turn up. Post COVID when she was going through an awful lot and she was not having great results like it wasn't particularly competitive. And a match that it really should be and in previous years, she has been competitive even when she hasn't had the form. But I mean, as a Sloan fan, you have the highs, you have the lows. We were having a few more loads at the moment, but I did think after our first round match where she went down 6 one and then she went down, what was it? I think it was two love against Greek men in the first one. I thought maybe it's one of those tricky first rounds and then she'll power through in a second when the pressure's off. But disappointing, I think a lot of people were disappointed with that match and it was given a good slot. It was eager's first match. On as I believe in, it didn't live up to the billing, which isn't great for tennis, but I do think it's good for eager and it seems like she's really knuckle down again after a not necessarily great U.S. open swing in. It's quite a statement victory in many ways. So I'm looking forward to seeing how eager progresses and I think it would be good to have a deep running this tournament. Well, she's got Lauren Davis next who had a bit of a bizarre drawer. Yeah, Davis lost the first sex day. Alexandra 6 love and then came back to win. So I do love it when you get those rogue score lines. I just Kim, I just always remember when we were at the Australian open and I found myself just going around the site during qualifying and I actually found myself next to Lauren Davis and she's tiny. She's so small, yeah. She's very petite. It's impressive. She is able to be just like, you know, get to the third round of that's impressive given, yeah, she's not the most imposing player on a tennis court. And I'll never forget the bulk of her, sorry. Yeah, small and powerful. Yes. I'll never forget that much against Halep at the Australian. 2018, that was amazing. Absolutely. Fantastic. I've just round up some of today's action on the men's side. Obviously, nori's through everyone's history. Alcaraz is through as well. He will face Jenson brooksby next, who knocked out born a courage of Cincinnati fame. This was a straight sets victory, but I mean, Brooks, we had to save. Second set. Hell of a lot of that. 7 set points had in the second set. How did he not manage to get over the line on that set? I mean, must be really frustrated, not leveling it up. He let the frustration control him. We know Jenson Brooks bees a player who is awkward, he upsets the rhythm that you can find yourself in with his variety of shots his jump ball shots, all the spins that he uses and the variety. And his general demeanor on court as well, I think, got under the skin of torch. I think he said at one point, he was just shouting, come on, you know, after literally every single point. And I think the way that third set just progressed away from courage, I just think he let Jenson brooksby get under his skin and as a result, he ended up losing the match in a pretty comprehensive fashion that would have been disappointing given just how many opportunities he manufactured in that second set, but on break points, he was one out of 15. Yeah, he will be annoyed, I think, given the platform he gave himself coming into New York. He's not really been able to deliver on it and he had his chances. Yeah, there was no plan B for ball next day I felt that his answer to sort of the retrieval skills of brooksby was just to hit harder and harder and go for more because he hadn't had those success on his bigger points and maybe he was slightly passive at times, but it requires an awful lot of patience to play against someone who's a little bit awkward like that. He was great retrieval skills. And in the slams, it's obviously over multiple sets. So multiple more sets in terms of the 5 sets. So I think maybe he's just a bit out of practice when it comes to the big stage and that side of things because you would normally not get that third set if you'd love for the first two and he mentally seemed to have exited at that point. It was tough to watch. So it's a shame. You'd have thought someone like Bourne would have had a plan B but at the same time I said another U.S. player who's a young player who's doing really well and it's good to see some of these young players doing well. It's a shame obviously for someone like boner who has had injuries and is coming back. But it's going to take a lot to be a Jensen brooksby in the U.S., especially when he's pumped up. Yeah, he reached the third round last year. Lots of Djokovic support. But he has got alcaraz next, so that will be a very tough test. Another young American who's doing well, nakashima is two sets up over Dimitrov. So I'm hoping Brandon can get through that one.

"Come unstuck like we've seen him do it slams before. Some kind of touching wood for that one. And then like you said Marin Cilic, you know, semifinalists at the French this year sort of out of nowhere. So former champion as well here, not forgetting. Back in what 2014 that was. So yeah, possibly some interesting players that could throw a spanner in the works. Jenson brooksby also down bottom section possible dark horse to throw in an upset, although he would face courage, yeah, second round. Let's take a look last but not least at the fourth quarter. My favorite quarter. Here we go. We've got certain Rafael Nadal back in action. He's the second seed. He's going for his 5th U.S. open title. And actually, draw wise, not too horrendous on paper. Once again. It's great draw. Open against the wild card rinky hijikata. It could have corrected second round. Both of whom are not quite where they used to be. But cam norrie at the top of the draw 7th seed really intrigued to see if he can keep up his solid form from this whole season. Wimbledon semifinalist can he make it to you so he's a slam in a row. And then Andre Ripley, of course, allowed to play a Grand Slam again and back in the draw. Joel initial thoughts on the fourth quarter to start with? I think Nadal got really great joy to be honest. I think he can, you know, I think obviously he wouldn't have got as much time on court in Cincinnati as he would have liked, but I think this draw enables him to feel his way into the tournament. I don't see too many dangerous dangerous players around him. Yes, there is four Nene or cats have potentially in round two. But they've not really been playing at the level that they've been at a few years ago. I think for four newly, for example, is in the twilight of his career. I think he's doing better on the doubles court than on this. On the singles court. So yeah, I think the Dow's got a good draw. Yeah, tiafoe might be an interesting one. I think that could be really fun, evening match, but I still think Nadal, yeah, it's got kind of a strong shot coming through. And yeah, could face, I wouldn't be surprised if it could be a Nadal norrie quarterfinal. I feel like nori always runs into Nadal at grand slabs and feces. It was like more like in round two round three and now because of his rank kick, it's more like four of the quarterfinals. But yeah, I think he's also got a good shot at going deep. Certainly into week two. Yes, he has Benoit pair in the first round and you just don't know what sort of what sort of tennis you're going to see on the tennis court from Benoit paire. But looking beyond that though guru, I think, could be tricky. John Isner as well is their unseated, which feels very, very nasty and difficult. So yeah, there's a few challenges along the way, but I think, yeah, the way cam's been playing. Well, again, how we handled himself in Cincinnati. I think he's, again, got a very good shot and I would not be surprised for me if he's the last Brit standing, and he lives up to his seeding, I think, in New York. I can see that as well. I think I'm too quick to discount norrie because I think obviously he's shown, so consistently how well he can play and how well he can get the results and players like when he beat Carlos, I thought that Carlos would very much have the measure of him as he had done previously, but you know, he pulled out the win there. So I think that he will do really well here. Having said that, I'm now thinking, I think I may be predicted, isn't it to come through this part of the draw? But I'm sure I can change that, but I think that would be a tough one. I think almost if you, if you take the game away from norrie, so if isna serving particularly well, then potentially he can't, we've sort of his web of, you know, the flat backhand a bit more tops with the forehand and make players lose their rhythm if you're not so reliant on rhythm like John Isner and the way that he plays is almost to hit kind of as few ground strokes as possible. I also think that Nadal, this is a really good draw for him. I think I will never count Nadal out. We've proved us time and time again that no matter what form he has going into something, no matter what injury, no matter what is going on, you can not discount him. So I've got Nadal having a really good run here. I think it would be good to see. And he just hit some tweeners with English film tech oh, if you can beat John, if you could beat John rap McEnroe, I think you can win the U.S. open. Exactly. We're in trouble now. Yeah, exactly. What about you, Kim? Yeah, I agree, I think Rafa has got an on paper, decent drawer. I just, you know, always have a question marks, or will there be an injury or something popping up, you know, like a Wimbledon, very unfortunate there. But Jack sock is beating Diego Schwartzman. Oh, definitely. Yeah, I could see that. That could be a long 5 setter, though. Do you not think? Not with Jack socks fitness, I don't know. But I think Jax, I think shorts are a bit on for me on upset alert there. And I also think Denis Shapovalov against Marc Andrea husler, who Draper. Yes, exactly. He's having a very good run in Winston Salem. Another player who I think has just shot up the rankings this season has been a little bit under the radar to me. I've not really known much about him. I saw that match up against Draper on paper and I just thought, oh, Draper will come through that.

"This tournament, I think, is pretty much normally won by a check player, obviously they've got they've got so many of them and I think booster is the 5th Czech player since the tournament began, I think, about 7 years ago to win, so they used to having someone at home win. It wasn't critique of her who perhaps would have been the more likely champion she went out in the second round to hibino of Japan. But yeah, she's got that title duck off her back. She's our 5th new WTA champion on the tour, so far this year. Instantly alongside Potter paper who did want to title earlier in the season. So she's joined that exclusive 2022 club. Yeah, it's an obviously it's a nice club to be in. And for Potter pover, you spoke very quickly about the wind she had against cultivate the top seed in the quarterfinals, 6 one, 6 one. That was a kid. I think it just shows how hot and how cold I think plotted over can be in the same tournament. And I think that's going to be her kind of issue and a challenge kind of going forward is. She's got to have that level of consistency and although she was able to bring it against cultivated. It just wasn't working in the final, she'll be disappointed, but you know, again, good tournament for getting to the getting to the fun in itself is an achievement. And I think a lot of these players, unlike the players in the Poland open, the fact that this is on a hardcore has already given them I think a little bit of a head start when it comes to going over to United States and getting on to the American heart. I think this will do them a bit of a service. Yeah, for sure. I think it's a nice, I guess, transition. At home in Europe, off you go to the states who yeah, I think there's quick keeping up how good form, as I said, after Wimbledon and cultivate kind of getting a few a few wins under about as well. She's had a obviously we alluded to this couple of weeks. Well, over the last few weeks or so, post COVID getting it back into the groove. Ever so slightly, although I don't have high hopes for the hardcore. I mean, I don't have high hopes compared to where she was at last a stages of last season where she was just, you know, the dominant force in the game. But yeah, we'll see how it all goes as the WTA Tour moves over to the states. But the men are some of the men are already in the states. Let's go to Atlanta, Joel, because we had hard court event out in Atlanta. This is the event that was just dominated by Australian and American players. And funnily enough, we got surprise surprise. We got some Australian champions. In fact, they did a complete sweep of the singles and the doubles. We had Alex de manor winning the singles and we had curios and coconut is getting their second doubles title together of 2022. In an all Australian final as well. So what did you make of what we saw out in Atlanta Joel? Yeah, it was great for de manor's straight sets in the final against Jenson brooksby 6 three 6 three. I think what I noticed in that final watching it on TV was I think we've de manor. I think we're just know him as a speed demon. We know him for his footwork, his movement around the court and actually in this final. Yes, that was all on show, but certainly when he was getting to the ball and certainly from the back of the court, his forehand, I think is really kind of developed over the last over the last 6 months or so. I think he's added some more speed to it. I think it goes through the air a little bit quicker. And I think it's a little bit hotter to handle actually. And I think that's been the issue with de manor on the tour is that he just didn't feel like he had a secret weapon in terms of his shots. And it was sort of like, yes, you've got kind of great footwork and agility and you can get to the ball with lots of time, but I think there was a question around was he doing enough for with it once he got there and I was impressed with him in the final given his shot making from the back of the court and although I think brooksby plays a similar sort of game, another player I think doesn't really he's still quite young and still developing, but I don't really think he has a shot that you could say is his X Factor. I think there are certainly a few shots you could actually be working on. His serve, but I think that I think they both had very similar tactics, but domino was just basically able to execute on a level that wasn't able to deal with. And I was very pleasantly surprised by how well yeah, I think Domino's ground strokes have come on. Certainly since last year. Yeah, I think curios had pulled out of the singles as well. So you were saying that perhaps kiryu should have been favorite to win the singles, but obviously having regardless of what he's up to, Alex de menor, very, very consistent player. Perhaps he doesn't have that killer weapon, but you know, as you said, he's known for his speed and movement around the court and able to nullify a lot of opponents weapons. And yeah, really impressive week from ADM. He won this title a couple of years ago. So yeah, he loves it in Atlanta. He absolutely loves the courts here. And good week for brooksby as well, you know, home event. He does really well on American soil, I think. He has had less success overseas, but American hardcore Jenson brooksby is where we see visiting. I feel like we just obviously he plays he's a good tennis player, but yeah, he's not he's had a sort of underwhelming I think last couple of months in Europe and I think he'll be looking at the hard courts here as feeling right at home really kind of familiar and he'll be looking to kind of play his game and it's served him for the majority of tournament really, really well. He picked up some very good wins against Mackenzie MacDonald, TFO in the semifinals and John Isner also in the quarters. But yeah, in the final, I just think he just came up against a player who had a very kind of similar game style to him, but was just kind of executing it on a better level. And I do wonder if Jensen brooksby is like Alex the manor in the sense that he's like Alex de menor, maybe a few seasons ago when he didn't have an X Factor in, I think, for me, brooksby is in still in that category of what's this guy going to what's this guy got that is really going to kind of propel him, I think, up the rankings.

"And I can shoot it straight with you and I'm not going to hide by a high end anything. And so when you watch these interviews, you kind of you see what the players are protecting. You see what they're scared of. You see what how they respond. You see if they're very confident and I always joke around like the basketball and stress, like when they're first winning, they look like Steph Curry and Michael Jordan and all these guys when they win their first NBA title, right there, like it's celebrations, got kids on their laps and they're all happy times and Disneyland. And then by the third one, they're just like laying on the ground, hugging the trophy. So stressed out and like just like, oh man, I'm going to, is that a joy is relief? It's relief. It's not happiness anymore. It's like Nadal is one of the best I'd ever doing it. As far as making it, making it happy and making it where it's still amazing from the looks of it, but most of them that I see about the time relief, but that sports, right? Because it's always what have you done for me lately. So it's very much that mindset of like after you win like, are you going to win next time? Are you going to do this? Are you going to do that? So expectations go up. So the interviews that so funny, you said that. The interviews I watch quite a bit like I watched, even I watched the guys who get asked questions about and I watch I watched what they had to say at the interviews and what they were saying and what how they were articulating it and what their thoughts were. About them because like you said, you can't they're just not good at hiding their answers that much. And if they do, I do they look so blatantly obvious. Like they are hiding it because they're like you said, most of them are just kids. Yeah. And we're probably homeschooled, right? And probably didn't go to college, right? And now we got some college educated dude with a master's in journalism. It's like, it's like really trying to catch him off guard or bring or opening up an insecurity that we as a coach try to hide for at least 14 days. We go to French Open. I know you feel a certain kind of way about this or feeling scary about this. I'm going to try to build that up. I'm going to try to bluff the hell out of it. Yep, issue to believe, right? And I can't have one person. So I like to just know what I need to bring up at dinner. What was said today, as I was saying, come out the locker room, don't spend too much time in the locker room because also. What do I need to reverse? I mean, it's so good. I talked to you this way because then it kind of confirmed so much of my gut, right? Like so much of my, you know, because you are out there on your own a lot and you are kind of figuring out and I do ask questions and I do talk to some of the coaches out there, but I also like to sit back and kind of watch, right? And kind of observe and oversee and kind of gain a perspective here, everybody and then like, okay, this is what I see and I believe. So really, really appreciate talking to you. I appreciate your time and you know it's been great you ever want to do it again. I'd be more than happy to great. Well, this has been a tennis dot com podcast with Joseph Gilbert. He is. Producer of tons of young champions. Mostly known for being start to finish. Driving force behind Jenson brooksby who's now one of the highest ranked American players, sort of his mythical player that everybody now is trying to figure out how he wins right without the quote unquote big weapons, right? "Yeah, yeah, no. So I'm never so what I tell all the parents, whether you pick our academy or you pick another academy or you pick a coach, you got to learn their philosophy and their I go, if you're going around learning ten different philosophies, right? Like all you're doing is, in my opinion, confusing the kid. Like, there's no way you're going to come to our academy, and then I know go down to the academy down the street and it's going to see eye to eye. That would be like, does Bill Belichick run the same system as Steve Kerr or Greg Popovich or like these are all cultures on its own? And they're all successful for certain reasons..

"Committee coach of the year. Now famous for producing two current pros, Katie vol units, which is one of the nicest young up and coming players on tour. Most polite and Jenson brooksby. And I think when you meet those two players, the personality, their discipline, their respect for other people is what stands out. Not just their game and a hard nosed style, but just to kind of kids that they are and how they greet people they don't know in the respect that they show, I think that directly reflects on not only their parents, but also the coaches, because the coaches in this sport really have a big impact on how kids behave. On the court and just in public and with their peers. And so I want to welcome to the show, Joseph Gilbert, who is known for his discipline. And it shows in the way Katie and Jensen behave and I've had very intimate interactions with both of them and it's legit. It's not fake. You know, you can fake it for 15 minutes. Before a whole week, you can't fake being nice. You can't fake being polite. You can't fake respect. So that's kudos to you, Joseph and welcome to the show. Thank you so much. I appreciate all those kind words. Yeah, no, the gentleman Katie good kids, hardworking kids, just disciplined kids. And yo, it's a joy to work with them. It's been a lot of years. And just in general, the whole academy now we've got good families with that big kids got a good staff. I can't take all the credit, my staff doesn't amazing job an amazing job there and I spent a lot of time developing staff as much as developing players..

"But hey we've got stop the top seed this. No you know. Asaka new bossy new williams sisters so Sampling case headlining on dress gave. It's the second age which i know you were quite shocked by. I know she won this title. I think last time around or at least will what would have been held. In toronto two years ago when she won a owned rescue still because of the ranking freeze and everything still op there despite not having one very much and just looking at the bottom bottom quarter. I mean is a pretty loaded. Quarter as quarters. Go because you go on the rescue in there you've also got samana highlight returning now. She must be feeling pretty. Good about self given you know. She's taken a wildcard yes. It was disappointing. She wasn't able to defend a wimbledon title. She was able to go to the olympics. But it's great to see her back in a main draw but she come up against danielle collins In in her opening match because collins has got jill titan and if she comes through that that's going to be is gonna. I think quite a tough ask for the help. And you've say go concert jessica gular as well and peculiar unseeded again. A player who last season in swearing to build up to the sap was just literally burning up the the heart. 'cause really really quality player on a hardcore orange jabbar's in there as well in that that boston boston. Cool to cass akina. It feels it feels like a lot of the a lot of really really good players already. Bunch too clever At the bottom of the yeah. I mean joe is also in the bottom half when she hasn't played in wall and she's zhang in the first round so who recently beat amerada to win the winner of that place which leader so even if joe gets through that agency hugging getting very far. Unfortunately i mean i've got my own. Yes subline crossing would do very well. i wanna say moog aretha. I think she's actually sitting jaka in the first round. He came through today against ostapenko but if a garage there because ostapenko was well. I send you a thorn. She was faking. Okay sorry for mats it. Yeah i mean you've got say is a reagan as well pishva in that top off. Your suppling is the top seed. Yeah she i think she's going to be riding high on some some confidence. I wouldn't be surprised if she goes to eat. Beg gain. I could see. I could still see as earn kroll. Mugabe thought they all my personal faves. Say i'm going to be a little bit biased. But some yeah. I do wonder if the the women might come out of that bottom quarter given the it's there are some very hard matches very early on. They're not my set them up while i think for the latter ended the tournament. So i'm mike gave yeah. I might gopher. I'm danielle collins jessica. Geula to be honest getting through to the final. I think someone unseeded could come through that given an on rescue. Haven't really been on the on the tennis court late. Yeah absolutely coca gophers. Well what can g day time to to get out there and start shining again but we will be back next week to round all of the action up from Toronto and montreal say we shall be watching always a eager eagerness this way for quite friendly and all on the type sites actually we can watch it on a after after term. "It's unlikely joe but that may happen because he has pulled out of toronto and cincinnati because of a setback with his injury. So is he going to participate in the year as apron. Potentially if he does is he going to. Just be very undercooked with with no matches in advance. And if so you know he's you've got thing he's not going to do realistically that well as a result. Yeah i mean it's not it's not. It's not great news. You know hearing the fact that he's had to pull out of toronto in cincinnati. And i think that it will be of big disappointment for fat fans is a big disappoint. I think for tennis fans in general. You know i was hoping to see you. Know flushing meadows Just to see you know the big three. I think just out the fact that they are all on twenty grand signs it. Just be great. I think just to see them all participating there That might still happen. It might not. Yeah we all know. Federal construct was at the moment particularly with this kind of pesky knee injury and it has got people thinking in terms of well. I if if he's not going to be paying these mosses events and not puts his you know his participation. us open in doubt law slam of the year realistically. You won't see you're gonna come back for and yes there. There is the you know the labor cup Basel as well so you know that's probably still things that could tempt him to kind of come back play some tennis. I mean the labor cup. I guess it doesn't necessarily have to be there in a playing capacity but yet the news at the moment is is not great and yeah. It's a bit. it's a bit disappointing. And i think the most disappointing thing about it is you know someone of roger federer's stature. You know you want to go out on his terms you know in the sport you know the disposal. He's given so much to just feels like at the moment. Maybe this this injury It's is arguably robbing him of being able to to do that. Yes as row shame. Because i just thought after the surgery in that time off he had that he would be able to withstand the tool for bit longer but perhaps not You know he has already paid an awful lot of matches. Then the lost seasons and lost your of c. Diff difficult from forever but we will await further. News from from camp fetch. I just wanted to where he still like. Just dropping out of the french open because he he this is officer shows. He's obviously in a fragile state at the moment. And you just. I think take grand slams for. He will grandsons for granted. But you know you should just take them as take them as they come and you know yes. You have to plan strategy. Is you'll season and you'll see his felt. That was the best thing to do at the time and it was a great cheapen i think in hindsight him getting to the finals of wimbledon. But yeah you do what you diesel. Wonder that he was in the second week of the franchise from whether he could have given what's gone on since whether he had a had an opportunity perhaps to perhaps not go out in the necessarily in the in the way that he did. Yeah that that decision did some people say. Yeah she kind of temporary forgotten about that say perhaps it was By on the bummer. Bet but some. Let's look at the National bank opens joe. It's going on this week. Basically the rogers cup. They've kind of changed the way it said So the men are in toronto but just tried to make it a bit more concise and pithier with that with that mutahi to him. Yeah i mean it sounds so much better. Doesn't it anyway. Toronto montreal for the women the men. There's no jovic So no zverev after the olympics We've got medvedeva top seed rougher seconds aid pretty much of. What else is there. I would say Overseas sinner going into as the washington. Dc champ Go back after his wedding lovely. I would go casper. Rude omaha court so interesting. See how he can transfer his recent klay prowess onto the north american hardcourts. Yes quite is quite interesting drawer and again is there's no real letup really for the top two seeds. I mean let's start with with method. I mean he's going to face. The winner of dan evans versus alexander booklet. Which could be a that. Could be very fun. Match i think. And then we kind of A boxer early came rather could face lloyd harris again in his opening match in Toronto lloyd house has to come through qualify first of all Also in that section of what we do have carrio specis radio poker. I think that's all the night session tonight. and the winner plays grigor dimitrov. Yeah i mean a a harrison adele matt second match that could be called. Og not could be quite interesting. I be inches that he surely think that would be able to as revenge if that much. If that much came to fruition. Well i think yeah. I think harris paid quite well tactically last week and i'm sure rafeh wouldn't let that happen again. He definitely would learn from from harasses tactics and put that in the bud. I think i think yeah. I think i'd give the edge. You think would make the same mistakes twice. I think that was a one off. Upset torchwood she says we've also go. I mean unseat unseat. Both players unseeded by feel plays up in the you know playing really really good. Tennis amendment cam nori ss karen kachin of With the wind plane crash save. I mean nori catching. That could also be quite as quite tasty. I think first match. Ben perr against because but dodo does well and bricks be is on a on a wildcard. Actually he's in quite favorable part. The draw could come up against alex manure if he comes through bassil billy as well in in the fast around. I mean brick speed manual. That is going to be if that happens. That's the number of extended rallies expected. Batch is going to be off the charts. Because i feel that both those players are quite be quite defensive and it will be a very much. A game of chess will decide to school. Yeah it's quite cool. Some of these matches none is that that opening for a owned the uso swing. Say i mean you predicting any joe are you gonna go top seed mevdev eager to think is he her cash gonna gonna ask sheba how she's a cha i'm wondering if shop olov At home he does have. He does like playing. Hey but he also except coda in in his eight-match which again will be quite tough casper. Rude is he going to be able to just kind of continue on his On his full yeah. I'm not sure. I mean i'm i feel i'm going to have to go with a. I'm just looking at the drawn out of my head. I think yeah maybe. Yeah i think maybe medvedev. We'll get to the get to the final. I'm not sure about nidal. I think he'll do better than he did. In in dc I'm wondering whether maybe an unseeded player. Maybe mackenzie donald again could Spring a surprise baton. Yeah i think medvedev early. I think i will be able to get through to the final. Not not hate life doing so like he like. He did like you did at the olympics and they become free with the title. Yeah my my inclination is also towards medvedev. I think yes. I'd love rafferty well in cd better than last week. But a date thing. He has enough yet to go all the way he needs to be on. I know i think he's building opposite. I e stephanos sits pass. Haven't even mentioned him he. He's there as well so it's quite it's quite report when you don't have the likes of chuck rich In the. But i mean what's even more even is probably the the monetary all of the women which is. Oh sorry because it's the montjeu. It's the omnium bonk nationale which i probably madrid with my fred jackson..

I'm not going to be a widow. I think given by my previous record of mysterious players. But i'll give him my show. Okay rights listeners. I hate you already to play along. And you're thinking caps on say. Hey we got a clue number one. I was born on the fourteenth of may nineteen ninety-three okay so slightly slightly younger than me I'm going to say also can be like twenty twenty eight twenty seven. Twenty eight just said malia francis t.f. oh no. I'm not. I will give you more claims which will be narrowed. I'm pretty sure that we have an old memorize birthdays. I was born in a country to which my parents had moved to the year before. Nine hundred okay. I was going to say. Dennis chiappa valve. But obviously that's not correct because a bit younger than that I'm gonna say mckenzie mcdonald. No that would be quite rent. But they wouldn't yeah. He's got like if family origins in i think china scottish and english descent as well. Actually i was reading a little bit. I would hate with a name. Like mckenzie with donald. He had some kind of skull judges very true to scottish names. Possible okay right clearly number three. I am currently ranked number fifty seven in the ta. Singles rankings k. w. ta player fifty seven so and can be they just been like a. I wonder if they've just been like a journey journey. Women just made around iraqi. We'll we'll wherever they the slide or on the way up. I'm going to say. Come on joe's it's out boozing eski that's steve require decent shout clearly you number four. I think this is. I have made to grand slam singles quarterfinals. But i have won seven. Doubles grand slams. They pretty handy doubles player. And how sorry. Why did they get to in the grand slams They have got to quarterfinals at singles slams that career but they have won seven doubles slams. Okay despite run Okay sydney akiva. It's sitting akhavan. Yeah you guessing warmer joe. You're getting warmer. I okay number five. I think this is. I won my home slam with my compatriot back in two thousand sixteen but shortly after our partnership ended. I think this is home slam. I'm thinking i'm thinking. That's the french open a. I think it's is it christine. Not that vich. It is so that might give it way that clay. But yeah i had a couple more at my save. My my most favorite cly was according to gubbay amiga aretha. I speak about twenty-five language. Yes we should have rate brought up way higher. I would definitely go. I left till the end of the liberty because he's become folklore in tennis but yeah. I decided to go with this week as listeners. Enjoy that and it did quite well Maybe you to before. Joe will maybe not. I also had That she won the fed cup in two thousand nineteen what winning all three rappers in the final beijing s. Yes that was in the in australia. As wasn't it woes. Yeah and losses. Short people would have got this. I was in a relationship with a fellow. Tennis professional for two years and up. See that was dominating team say there. We go mysterious player. You should have brought those gossipy clues our relationship state all that stuff that much better for me the the the that you achieve the cool but then you would have gone to joe. "He's very difficult to play against. He you know. He's not the most orthodox suppliers as well so Is very tough. Very tough opinion. And and i think american tennis for the for the young guys they've got some really good prospects oversee expe- coda nakashima. Who as being doing very very what. I was disappointed. That nakashima o.'neil to the third round and lost out to dennis cutlip out. He's probably a bit tired after the few weeks. But yeah lots of quite quite exciting. As if american tennis fans. I would say i mean duct sheba cape through don evans. Seven sixteen. Probably less about that the better. I don't know what happened in that. Second set but yeah it's been a very impressive. I start for you know for americans that might not necessarily be on people's radars and this might be know time kind of leading up to your sapien. It might be full. One or two of these payers to make their mark. I think the thing we have to say is that. We're gonna take a picture. So kim because americans they loved. We know they love hyping up that players and that juniors and it doesn't necessarily doesn't necessarily always kind of pan out like that. I think back to la donald young for example when maybe to an illicit to a lesser extent francis. Cfo i mean. Don't don't cheat me. That i feel like he's still got a lot left in him to give. But some yeah. I think at the moment this american males tennis is certainly riding on a on a high wave and mcdonald as well and he's not necessarily necessarily say he's a junior bricks be seems to be leading the line there and as he said that unorthodox nature that he possesses is something that just players to tucson able to figure out yet and although i think he comes from that background of yeah having sold it kind of ground strikes from the back of the cool. He also loves starring in light. Double-handed backhand dropshots which i think catches a lot of players like a of god. So yeah it's really. I think exciting times in. There's no doubt they can be absolutely dangerous. Kind of opponents four seeded players to come up against in the the main jobs to come up to You know up to flushing meadow. Yeah what happened. Donald john die is the question of the day i think joe now you mentioned his name. He took a set of murray. I think kid the davis cup in in like in when it was in scotland when that when it was the tie gets america in glasgow. I think anna's like whoa. Whoa i to like do a quick like double check with. Did that actually happen. But yeah it's You know he's a great you know. He's a great player. He was a great personality as well. But yeah just felt like a note of expectation was kind on him. And i think that that's not an isolated example. I think of a cases as well and yet the nakashima quarter as well. Hopefully they fall into that trap. Absolutely i was like is the gasquet effect as well as the player. That so very much in line with that and let's talk about job because we had to. Wj events happening loss week. Five hundred events in san jose in california where we had done yo collins Winning his second straight tournament To claim this won the biggest title of her career. I mean she's ought to have a role at the moment isn't cheese. Won ten straight matches one amongst the fans they subject to fat as we get onto that and a bit but she came through against daria kazakina. A six three six seven six one They played a really epic tiebreak which was twelve. Ten kaseke no saved. Well much boys. In seconds i think three of those were in the tiebreak to take it to a third but yet daniel collinses faulty strong in not third-set and yet really backing up Kind of maiden title-winning in paloma which was on the cry and then to go win. You know your second straight title and different surface very impressive. Yeah that was. That was seriously good stuff that you able to transition say quickly girl across the guy across the world as well. I mean that was very impressive from danielle collins. And i think danielle call it is. One of those is one of those players. He's just so she's battling the player across the call but she's also battling herself i think and it was quite clear i think in that tiebreak in in the second particularly she was up against catholic kina but also she was up against the fads of the fans were Let's call is either their barricades as well. They were just dot letting her play her game. She felt that they were cheering and hollering during the points off the points it was really her off a game to the point that i think you know she was caught on tv saying shut up to you to her home. Fans and I don't think particularly to her fans. But daniel collins is so a player. Who doesn't she just does not care she. You know she wants to win. You know she is a you know she can be at times allowed an intense player on the tennis cool and the it was just a very very impressive victory from her but it was a victory. I think yeah came from k. From anger that she wasn't able to get get it done cedar. You can see that. Walk to the net. Even though she'd just wanted the pick is hlavac career she booed was on on the exterior. It did not very happy. Yes she didn't look yes. She didn't look very pleased when she won. But i think for me. I felt that that was because she felt should have one definitely in in straight-sets she doesn't always bit like she's having a stroke on the call. You know how she she is know she gets it yeah. She doesn't have to be with sweetness and light as she as much as some people might warheads bay. But i mean i think that was he pops in his speech. She didn't so you say thanks to funds for coming and ebay that my of course they've concentration especially the home crowd but you know she's she's just getting on with it and like yes you do have to. I mean does she won't crowd's going forward like what she liked the and to be be like it was last year without growls. Probably not say. I was thinking that wherever that they'll call it. What does does she actually like play without crowds. Because she would have to deal with all of this. We'll all of this kind of madness noise going on around. I think maybe was kind of interesting. Is the fact that you know crowds have been an fans have been deprived of tennis for so long. Live tennis for so long. The fact that you put them then back in in a fuca paseo. Whatever does that mean. They're gonna go an extra a an extra bit crazy because they haven't been in this situation for eighteen months. I'm not sure. But i feel like in america We've seen the the crowd new york for example if the is are some of the most You know it can be. It can be well. You know wild night wa atmosphere on on the night session..

"Yeah absolutely it will. We'll see how he progresses through the rest of the. Us open spring but like gin thaw a genuinely thought with food crowd. That would have been the thing. The would have got him excited. We've seen him go to the crowd and osc wedge will be to serve on. We're going to have the team. Have out white i was. I think he really loves that. The interaction say. I mean maybe in the future. Maybe that's the that's the source that he needs. Maybe he just needs to reduce rediscover that and that that means. He needs someone on his team to help him. Rediscover that is able to do that himself. But i certainly feel like yet. It's the fans obscene. Love him being there and yet maybe he can. He can use that as a source of inspiration going forward he probably needs to play the raffarin. A factor being a give him a a piece they were small of close to each other in the the drool. What what was that was on the cards. But it wasn't was eight because rafeh I mean raffle. I mean raff had a couple of matches. Were win very tough. Win against jack walk. And then he came. unstuck against loyd harris. Yeah and you love a bed. Lloyd harris thank you. You love his hair flowing so yeah. I was like typical lloyd harris. Yeah six four one. Six six four lloyd harris kind of getting of crucial break in the said set. I mean yet. Disappointing as a rapper found. They didn't go further for me. I was just pleased to see him back. And i thought you know. He's had six sets of tennis. Hopefully that's what he needed in terms of match practice you know. That's why he's probably comeback early. It's this event as opposed to starting out at the mall. Sary's and i think positive news was that he said his his kind of injury which is sort of still bear. Bear it's improving. It's getting better and you know he hasn't been able to practice kind of the time like he would have been wanting to say to be able to get through these team matches. I think he he seemed to be kind of fairly. Oh right Afterwards and hopefully you know in toronto this coming week he can. I mean he's actually going to potentially playing noy towers again but we'll get into that later. Loiterers could have two wins of his life in the space of two weeks paps but think that was probably lloyd is biggest biggest win of his career. I suppose as anything he's ever defeated someone of rafters caliber are. He's become the first player to win his first meeting with rafeh since eighty euro data chiappa valve Him in twenty seventeen in the The rojas copying montreal so Yeah it was really really really impressive from him. Think we've seen yes. We spits in spurts. I think from lloyd harris this season i think particularly earlier on. I think i remember in dubai. He put pretty good run to get the from qualifying all the way through to the final in the main draw in ever since i've sort of cut a been predicted to kind of go on and so kickoff on bataan yeah i felt like with dave that victory. He really did show The talent. I think that he kinda possesses and gay. He's any kind of twenty four years old he sort of. I think now the battle has been passed to him. I feel from kevin anderson In terms of kind of south african tennis. And i think yeah he should be a moment now where he can kick 'cause i certainly think he's got the the tools to to to go to go. Hi physically i think with his ranking so he will obviously take great confidence from that victory with ivan. The dow came the other match. The dow played. I think we need to talk about that as well. Because three hours against jackson walk the crowd were absolutely loving it. I thought he was actually one of the matches of the year. So far it was just such a it was it was such a surprising Surprising encounter. Because i didn't realize why think we've gotten actually is fans how good jack salt can be on his day. And i was really really impressed by the level that he that the salk brought the core against the dollar i think both players and it with more winners than than unforced errors yes. Nadal played an absolutely expert Tiebreak to to win in that third set but again that was not an easy That was not an easy opening match for nidal and it was just a fantastic fantastic battle between the two them. Yeah i mean. Jackson was seen a former top tan. One i think the paris masters like quite a few years ago. Now say we know on his day he has. The game is just black. That day has not been happening for a long time. And i guess when you're out on a night session with rougher you wanna turn off your date so if there was an occasion where he was carry on that is exactly what it curiosity needs the nights he needs tonight session. He needs the cameras on him. And then you'll be right is right. He just wanted to say tension doesn't play. Well an american as well. Jason brooks be. He reached the semifinals. And i mean he really is like on a hot streak at the moment because he is now into the pundit i think in the world whereas only you know a few afi wheat well it seems like a few weeks ago. He was outside the top two hundred and he's got the newport fine all. We got to the semifinals hair. And yeah looking looking really quite quite prospect but also you know andy murray been getting involved on twitter which might be paying the kype shorten him. We all know are berries. Prediction sometimes can be bit interesting. I but yeah he he so upset that jensen brooks bays exactly so apply that he loves to watch because of his variety and his his high tennis iky saying his backhand volley was almost identical to flurry. And maya which supply. The i had not thought about in a long time. How could you. How could flory remind won't be at the front of your mind kim on him and his back. I'm fully. i love that. That was quite a niche reference for berry by app see loveday and flora was a quality player back in the day. I remember watching him. I think against you'll see one on like an outside. Cool flushing meadows of the us open and it was just such a thing. I just that battle of of double-handed backhands dislike offices so good but yeah jensen bixby is was. I play this week. Who i gain think like mckenzie madonna. Just one lots and lots of fans probably not law players. Sorry fans at her had heard of him. He got to the final in in newport. Where las to to kevin anderson Yeah kane came in herod just picked up some really really impressive victories and watching know i don't watch much of him before and kind of watching him on tv again. He's just got this style that he's just a great defender. I think and He was just able to get the everything back. In the i watched against He took out a felix. Elliot's it was just really clear for me. Murray talked about the fact that he had high tennis. Like you and i completely agree with that statement. Because you don't sit to him on the net faa. I think the moment yes. He's got talent. But i think he's gonna low tennis. Iq i think he's strategy wise. I just not sure he's got it. I just don't think he's got it down yet. And when he came up against someone like brooks be between was just getting everything back and faa just didn't really know what to do and i don't think he necessarily has that variety yet the a thing she chiappa is so i think overtaken him in terms of prospects for canadian tennis right at this moment and doesn't have that variety and as a result you just of standing behind the baseline hoping to hit winners and win the match that way and brooks was absolutely having none of it and he was running around the corner gang app. See everything back in and it was just really really impressive. Yeah i suppose the faa win probably his most impressive as well as his win over in the round before an came out saying this is. He's very difficult to play against. He you know. He's not the most orthodox suppliers as well so Is very tough. Very tough opinion. And and i think american tennis.

"The senate but the fact the madonna. Mcdonald's came out fighting He's been he's great. he's a great talent. And i think consistencies the thing that will poets back. Think today i think in that final he kinda showed it. And i think he was able to kind of all of the day's lost points Behind him yeah. He's had get himself over the line but it wasn't wasn't easy for him to do and i think mentally that was so impressive about the cinema performance. Yeah when you say many challenges and then the you know getting the yugoslav recreate. Those jobs isn't just like clean slate. Let's let's focus on each point. And i mean we saw that as well in the daniel collins win which will get onto a bit later as well but yet in a very exciting time for him going into kind of the most is level events and then the like. What can he do for the rest of this year. So you can swing. Because he's made the perfect star and osa mckenzie mcdonald. Probably not someone you wanna come up against in in the coming up tournaments. Because he's he's getting you know he's been improving this this season i think he got to the fourth round of the so now into his first final. Hopefully he can stay injury-free and build on that. I swear we just associate because he done with the australian open. You had that had that batch. She gets A few a few years ago but yeah the story the story for him. He feels like he's like i think twenty five twenty six now injuries. Hopefully injuries are behind him. And he's just been. I think a slowing calm steady improve the disease. Then you look him on coal and i think he doesn't look the most imposing figure but he sort of reminds me a little bit of of how well kind of cam nor is doing. The season in terms of that game is a bachelor and he just makes the most. I think of his is talent. I certainly i think kind of showed that this week. Particularly with some of the victories he kind of pulled up because he beat kei nishikori in really tyke three-set battle in the semifinals out dennis cutler is while elliott ivanka and he took out a nick. Carry us in in the first round in straight-sets who is the defending champion. So you know we've had some very very good wins this week and generally speaking for american tennis at the maidment. It's been it's been on. The men's side is been really really impressive stuff there over the last couple of weeks. You must have been really annoyed. They beaten at tighter. You're looking to carry on and an wolpe a i was like. I don't know that would be for carrier. Say defending champion particularly. I think the fact that that were full full full crowd in In washington so i thought he would absolutely love the atmosphere coupled with big fatty. In your house like yeah. Surely he'll come. Come come through but dodo to give us that. Grad stabat sheds bed wallpaper. The at least maybe some of us wanted but no it was. It wasn't too bad but Yeah i think yeah. I think nick was probably disappointed with the mangrove that but the fact that mcdonnell went on to get to the final property says something about the you know the level that mcdonald was bringing to the core. Yeah and akshay kiro set that his head was in the shed after leasing that much he was particularly both of the two either way he you know he lost that much but he he was kind of saying he didn't really care that he lost an bit worrying because if he's actually that invested in what's happening on the core like does he really want to be there and you know yes. He hasn't played law and sort of just connie coming back into it but he was sort of saying he's he doesn't really feel like how he should or how he used to get used to get very worked up an emotional on the court say really kind of needs to rediscover his his mosier because even with the crowd that he just wasn't wasn't failing at yeah. That's what i was asked why. I was surprised by because you took quite him. He was saying. I actually missed the days when i was losing and i was carrying on and i was getting fined and i was frame my rackets. That just meant the cattle archie cad. What was happening now. i lose. i'm actually happy for the guy it was. Yeah it was. I think surprising to hear those comments and you know we know. I think nick carry offices either. His character i think has changed. I think dare. I say the pandemic has has changed him but It feels like at the moment. Yeah he's he's lacking that little bit of energy and not an x factor. The i guess gets him up in the morning in terms of playing on the tower. And i think that sort of coupled with the fact that he's not had a lot of experience in as much as he is a great talent and a great kind of competitor. He's just not had much much. Tennis is probably thinks he wants to be able to do is just not letting him do that at the moment and i think that was the case in in round one in in dc. Losing donald in straight-sets Yeah i think it was. It was disappointing and fa carry us. Maybe he needs to go away in. I think maybe get angry but maybe angry with a more sort of constructive positive sort of output as opposed to the fines the bands and with soda. Stuff that i think we saw that we saw pre pandemic..

American hardcore swig is here. We have got toronto at betrayal along the way this week. And we've just had washington. Dc and san. Jose as well as the fantastically they've widows open in romania. I think right now at this moment the olympics it is over we can. Now just get back. I could add focus on the toll. We're not we're not dealing in metals. Go silver bronze anymore. It back to its background. Psalms and at the moment it's all about the build up to the us open the winner. Takes all joe if your second plate or something but you have a ceremony and you know flowers and a nice medallion. I have to say it's a bit weird not waking up and having diving or cycling on the today on the telly so i've missing aspect of the olympics but there's tennis we have tennis still. We always have tennis. Say that's a nice constant and we came back to a point now where. I don't think there's going to be any excuses anymore. Oh you've been picking up titles because the roles have been very week because gang to back to a point now where all the big names are going to be getting ready to go on the on the hardcourts in north america and in canada. So yeah it's going to be very exciting to see less dot with washington. Dc eighty p five hundred event rafeh. Was you excited about that. Given a of raffin he was the top seed but we ended with a final. The i think many people may be expected. We had mckenzie mcdonald. Come through in the top path to face off against yanic sinner and we had yanic cinna. Come through take his biggest title of his career so far at nineteen years old and yeah it was a fantastic match. You want seven five in the third-set and it was it was it was a good natured match. You think the fact that there was a food capacity crowd that added to the occasion..

"You always with someone. Yeah i'm always. Let's coach on the road. Whether it's just for nick greiner usually joseph's but i'm always. I never travel alone. Are you guys talking at all about. I mean to me corrupts might be the story of the year cata so far. I mean this guy when we got out of it and he was playing last august he was outside the top two hundred and now the guy's beating jovovich and he's he's won a million bucks already and got to the semi australian. What a title. Are you guys talking about him. No i mean like you mean like challenger. Players are yeah. I mean it seems like this guy sort of you know like steph. Curry going from david said to empty yet guy with was with d two a year ago and now is speeding. Jovic that name coming up at all. That's true. I mean not not really. I mean players don't I mean does no like. Tv's if anyone we don't really nice Hearing the players talk about any other players are really limiting. It seems like everyone's just pretty focused on trying to do their best. Which which makes sense. I mean at least from my standpoint. Hear anyone talking about players. But i mean he's definitely the aslam's definitely improved tremendously. So how much attention do you pay to the To the top runs in theory with everything goes as planned. These guys are going to be facing sooner rather than later. How much attention are you paying too the day in day out. Atp results yes. That's my goal definitely is to be new playing with them sooner rather than later. I don't pay attention too much. I mean i. I i see what happens sometimes but i i don't i don't really pay attention to it. I just need a try to focus more on of the things. I need to do to get up there. Concert playing with them than competing with them consistently and.
