The right side is blocked with the work. Keep an eye out northbound 270 in the local lanes. It was before Village Montgomery Avenue there was a broken down bus on the left side, but not really seeing much of a backup. We do still have the delays approaching Maryland 97 in both directions between Roxbury Road and Jennings Chapel Road. The the road remains closed because of a crash investigation. Expect to be under redirection or police direction in the area. Northbound New Hampshire Avenue at Piney Branch Road is a report of a flash also in the district southbound DC 295 near Benning Road. A single lane gets by the work. The delays approaching Edsel Road, not the same crash as was near the Beltway, but it is over on the right shoulder, so it is just drawing the attention. Southbound 395 approaching Edsel Road, then it looks good into Springfield whether you're heading on to the Beltway or on to southbound in 95. 95 Southbound sees a little bit of volume in Newington, then it looks good crossing the Occoquan into Fredericksburg. Eastbound 66 just some volume approaching Centerville. The problem here was on the ramp to northbound 28 in Centerville. The right side of the ramp was getting by the wreck. In Maryland, the northbound 270 spur after the Beltway. The left lane was getting by the work, so you're starting to see delays spill onto the Beltway on the interloop trying to get on to the northbound spur. No problems reported on 270 in either direction. We did have the problem earlier northbound in the local lanes before Montgomery Village Avenue. The left lane had been blocked with a broken down bus but not seeing really a delay. We still have the problem on Maryland at 97 between Roxbury Road and Jennings Chapel Road. You're under police direction for that crash. The outer loop topside is still a little heavy from New Hampshire Avenue toward 89 Colesville Road. "Good morning. I'm Michelle Bash. And I'm Mark Lewis with the top local stories we're following this hour. Still no deal in Congress to fund the federal government. So we remain on track for a government shutdown that will start at the end of tomorrow. It would have wide ranging effects the across country and of course here in our region where most federal workers live. Our team coverage begins now with WTOP Scott Gelman. It's a terrible situation. That's how Jacqueline Simon with the American Federation of Government Employees describes the consequences if the deal to avoid a shutdown isn't reached. People are going to start receiving notices that will inform them whether or not they're going to be furloughed or whether they're going to be expected to to continue work. But in either case neither will get a paycheck on payday. The last shutdown, she says, really stretched people past the limit. And there were some workers who couldn't even afford to put gas in their car to get to work or pay bus fare to get to work. Scott Gelman, WTOP News. With more about the concerns of federal workers, here is Federal News Network's Drew Friedman. Missing a paycheck is the number one worry for about 35 percent of federal employees. Jury stations will resume this hour in the trial of former Loudoun County School Superintendent Scott Ziegler. on He's trial for two misdemeanors related to the firing of an elementary school teacher allegedly in retaliation for her before testimony a special grand jury. That panel was investigating the school system's handling of of two sexual assaults by the same high school student in 2021. NBC 4 reporter Drew Wilder says the retaliation charges in this case are uncommon. One of them's actually never been brought to trial in Virginia ever and that's this notion of retaliation from a public figure in their position. We'll keep you posted on any developments in the trial. Since June Montgomery County Schools saw one principal accused of sexual harassment and bullying. Two Transportation Department officials plead guilty to misconduct and misuse of funds as well as a settlement in a case involving alleged sexual assaults of high school athletes. One parent says the announcement that the county's Inspector General's office is conducting an independent investigation is good news. As Montgomery County Council members grilled school officials on the system's handling of allegations of misconduct by employees, they praised Inspector General Megan LaMarzi who's leading an investigation into the issue. And Janice Sartucci with the Parents Coalition of Montgomery County also expressed faith in LaMarzi's ability. She stays within the parameters of her job. She does what she's supposed to do and she produces results. LaMarzi made clear I cannot comment about specifics related to the investigation or review at this time. Sartucci echoed the calls by the County Council for more transparency from the school system when allegations of employee misconduct are made. Kate Ryan, WTOP News. Two people are hospitalized in critical condition this morning after a shooting at a liquor store in Charles County. Police say they were called to Jimmy's Paddock in White Plains on Crane Highway just before midnight. For reports of a shooting, they found two people with gunshot wounds. They're still looking for a suspect and motive. a More than 100 swimmers were set to plunge into the Anacostia River last week, but it got rained out. This was the second actual postponement of this planned swim and it's probably a good thing as it has just received a failing grade, the river has, and the grading says river's the not safe. The Anacostia River Shed Society says despite invisible river signs habitat, of improving including the return of otters, the river has still failed quality tests because of high level of fecal bacteria that comes from the city's sewage runoff. Another measure they focus on is submerged aquatic vegetation and over the last year the group says the Anacostia saw a sharp loss in these threats. The group's State of the River report card shows that the fastest growing source of pollution is stormwater runoff, which flushes trash and toxic chemicals from paved areas. The group says with more work they hope reach to a swimmable and fishable river by 2025. Luke Luker, WTOP News. Well it's not looking good out there. In Virginia, this is southbound 395 near the Beltway. The two left lanes are blocked with the crash. So this is the side, this is exactly at the where point it splits. We've got some lanes to the right and some lanes to the left. That left side of the roadway was completely blocked with the wreck but you able are to get over to the left side of the split once you get past the crash scene. are We seeing some delays growing before Edsel Road northbound 95. The delay is heavier probably a rubbernecking delay if you're getting onto 395 from the Franconia Springfield Parkway trying to make your way onto 395 or trying get to onto the inner loop of the beltway. Before Braddock Road there was a broken down vehicle on the left side, then delays approaching and passing 236 in Annandale with the wreck on the right shoulder, then a delay coming off of the Dulles Toll Road toward Georgetown Pike with nothing reported. If you're on Georgetown Pike, that's a bit of a delay in both directions, basically between 123 and the beltway. Keep an for eye out anything that may have happened there. You'll also find the outer loop top side of the beltway, slow from 95 around past 29 Oldsville Road. The inner loop delays begin on southbound 95 near 212 headed onto the inner loop, the passing Baltimore Washington, actually passing Route 1 in College Park toward the Baltimore Washington Parkway. On the Baltimore Washington northbound Parkway near Powder Mill Road, that wreck was along the right side. Delays seem like they begin inside the beltway now from headed 410 to the beltway, then continued slow through Greenbelt toward the crash. Southbound off and on, delays from 198 headed past the scene. Looks like that is just a rubbernecking delay. While in Glenwood, it is Maryland 97 between Roxbury Road and Jennings Chapel Road, you're under police direction for the crash. You're first going to find it slow in Springfield before 95 and coming off of 95 headed toward Braddock Road Before Braddock Road the left lane was blocked with a stopped vehicle. Then you're going to find a delay approaching and passing 236 in Annandale. That wreck was reported over on the right shoulder. If you're on 5 North Bounsome volume in Lorton. Then in Springfield whether you're getting onto the Beltway or continuing onto 395 to Edsel Road. Then a delay from Duke Street to King Street and after the Pentagon headed to the 14th Street bridge. Back on the Beltway the interloop slows coming off of the Dulles Toll Road toward Georgetown Pike and then in Maryland from 355 around toward Connecticut Avenue. Southbound 95 slows in Calverton before 212 headed onto the interloop all the way to the Baltimore Washington Parkway. The outer loop is also seeing a delay from 202 in Baltimore Washington Parkway. There's also volume inside the Beltway on the southbound Parkway toward the Goodluck Road overpass with nothing reported in the roadway. Interloop slows approaching the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Now on the Baltimore Washington Parkway outside the Beltway northbound near Powder Mill Road the crash in the right lane. delays Those are out of Greenbelt southbound slows from 198 headed past 197 that now looks to be a rubbernecking delay. Also westbound on Maryland 200 or the Inner County Connector before Shady Grove Road that along wreck the left side still has the delays approaching and passing the scene. In the Glenwood area Maryland 197 between Roxbury Road and Jennings Chapel Road. You're under police direction for the crash. In fact, more people are expected on the roads and in the air compared to last year. Two people dead, another injured after a shooting in Fort Washington. It took police hours to end a standoff with a suspected gunman who is now under arrest. Keep it here for full details on these stories in the minutes 8. Traffic and weather on the 8th. We continue to watch the getaway traffic as well as the rush hour traffic today and it looks like now the westbound span of Bay the Bridge, the left lane of 3, is blocked with two -way traffic prep. They aren't quite wanting two -way traffic just yet. We were starting to see a little more volume eastbound near sandy point getting onto the bridge but not by any means a big delay. Both lanes on the eastbound span are open and we're just waiting for the moment when they do end up running two -way traffic on the westbound span. Now the other trouble spot is going to be southbound 95. Delays crossing the Occoquan into Dale City. This is the scene of the tractor trailer crash. You were staying to the far right to get around it. Then near the Dale City car rest area crash had been on the left shoulder and then it looks good all the way into Fredericksburg. The earlier delays in Springfield onto northbound 395 toward Edsel Road have eased so whatever was there should have cleared. A little bit of volume headed towards Seminary Road and then if you're on 66 that actually looks good coming out of Gainesville headed all the way to the Beltway. In Maryland southbound 270 a lot of the earlier delays have cleared out including from Father Hurley Boulevard passing 118. You're still in good shape all the way to the lane divide onto either loop of the Beltway. Inner loop of the Beltway still a little heavy from 355 off and on getting around past Connecticut. Outer loop delays from New Hampshire off and on passing 29 Colesville Road. We still have the delay on the inner loop basically from 202 headed all the way past Richie Marlboro Road where there had been a report of a wreck. Maryland 97 near Jennings Chapel Road had been under police direction for the crash. Northbound Connecticut Avenue the ramp to the outer loop the broken down vehicle was on the right side and in Riverdale watch for the wreck affecting Kettleworth Avenue near Rittenhouse Street. This is going to be trip a solid from the Occoquan into Dale City. The tractor trailer crash still there in the roadway. You're staying to the far right side to get by. Once you do get by however that remains a good trip all the way into Fredericksburg and continued south into Thornburg. This was according to workers that we heard from this morning. So times you may find it slow along the right side of the roadway. As people try to turn into NIH. You need to stay to the left to continue south bound on 3 55 to avoid any of the delays. You can drive in all three Lanes, but you may find it a little slow along the right side. Eastbound span of the Bay Bridge left Lena to blocked with the work westbound running two way traffic. We may have worked on the very nice Matt Middleton Bridge today. They will be restricted for commercial vehicles, but everybody else will be able to now cross those bridges.
