Let's move to another laker target bradley. Beal and i will come back to ben simmons. Because i think there's a chance of that. I don't know if it's a fit but bradley. Beal has not committed to to the wizards. They don't have a coach as of now they might be going to bradley beal and saying who can we get to make you to stay answers. Probably nobody but if bradley beal says i want out and i want to go to the lakers. He's got one year left before he hits free agency. Who can stop him from saying. I want to go to the lakers. And don't don't trade for me boston or whoever because i'm not signing there because anthony davis did the same damn thing. Why can't bradley beal do that. And ken lebron get him to do that. Yeah yeah all comes down to your agency. In what type of agent you have as well and what type of personality the player has because know you do that when you make that demand you're going to deal with the bags and some players are not accustomed to their backlash because they've always been seen as liberally bill has always had a pristine image immediate as far as everything he'd never really been viewed as a bad guy or been viewed as a villain by any means So if he were to come out like tomorrow and say we saw headline tomorrow on notification. But there's another guy that i probably would Sacrifice one of my family members for to be on the lakers. I'll say rarely bill i. I mean he's high on my list. You had to give me a top three. "And they know they know what he can do right. And so that's why. I i wonder i don't see how he gets better. And what's interesting about. It is so with with just under nine minutes left to go in the game. Joe harris cuts the lead to five. And so you look at it and go okay. They're really in this game for sure. And then milwaukee proceeded to go on a fourteen overrun and went up by nineteen. At that point everybody comes out like maybe not. I wouldn't even take that long but everybody comes out for me. I agree with you there. So you're talking. It looks like about three minutes. Maybe a hold onto long. But i'll make one last point in about ten minutes and thirty seconds. The was fifteen so we went from five at the end of the third and went up to about ten and then it went up to fifteen real fast start in the fourth so at that point maybe with you know ten and a half minutes left you downgraded t now maybe you sit him at that point. It's not like your backups. Can't potentially come back. you know. That's the funny thing the spurs when. They had that two year run. They played the heat in the finals. There was a couple of games in the western conference. I was watching that every spurs game from start to finish that year Boris diaw was kinda my spirit animal in the nba. I thought if i play the nba. Like boris diaw. But but the reality is that there was two games in which were down by about twenty and You know this wasn't in the finals. And they put in their whole second team and his second team brought him back to light. Five points and pop left in the backups and he ended up losing those games and pop said. Hey the starters are the ones that had is down twenty but to put in a high energy second unit and say go for run. It really play hard here. Probably had a good of a chance of coming back and you would have gotten the rest. Yeah i i just. I wonder at what point. They're going to regret this decision. And look who knows. Maybe kevin durant wasn't going full speed last night. You know maybe. He was being conservative with his energy because he clearly wasn't the same player who was the previous game. And so this this could all be a moot point. But i just every advantage outside of homecourt is in the side of milwaukee heading into game seven like every single advantage and we got the line on the game. So have you seen this. I have not. I or i saw earlier today but i was wondering because i was doing the show with brady quinn and we were talking about. How much could possibly move the game. Seven line we saw when it was at pick them early early this morning. Yes or right now. Brooklyn is a one point favor and now about this so the games in brooklyn home court right now probably for brooklyn. I'll give it two and a half. So what we're saying is with a hobbled harden and without kyri more walkies the better team. If you're supposed to be a two and a half point favor at home if you're brooklyn and you're one point favorite means you're the lesser team with the g- given the givens. I don't agree with that. Which i mean. What's your gut feeling. I i think when it comes to milwaukee and when it comes to milwaukee going into this game. I just so hard to trust but i look at brooklyn and i go in. I'll say this crunch time. If the games close late i trust brooklyn but overall i trust milwaukee to have a more complete game just based on their health and just based on who's available is so let's take our first break because this game is going over the weekend and we usually don't do this when we come back. I'm going to give a pick on this game an early pick and one of the reasons why i'm going to pick the way i am. There's a trend home away split. That really is an eye. Popper be sure to catch. This of course after milwaukee gets a one oh four eighty nine win last night at home forcing that game seven this weekend the third lowest scoring output of the season for brooklyn. Obviously milwaukee stepping up on defense. The line in game seven brooklyn at home only favored by one as we talked about that. Means it milwaukee right now with a hobbled harden on the other side is considered to be the superior team the better team milwaukee. Speaking of harden jonas. Let's give credit where credit's due here. And i'm saying that. Because i got some good credit coming up on the six game but is we asked you impromptu. No prep time. "Billips. Not at a score on that team. Mr bigshot destroyed definitely hit a couple of big shots. Down the i mean. I don't remember exactly how they initiated their sats. But i mean the fact will going back fifteen sixteen years to even start thinking about a champion without a one or a one initiator tells me milwaukee's problems and it's also being on the same stage next to durant because look jaanus is a great player but when you see him on that stage next to durant it makes it makes it look that much worse and the fact that one of the conversations afterwards were okay so you are not effective at the foul line. Maybe they can't trust you to get a shot when they need to. You're supposed to be a defensive. Mvp you're a defensive player of the year type guy. why not take the responsibility of covering durant. And he didn't do that. And that was one of the discussions afterwards in which he said. I would like to take that responsibility in game six. And i'm hoping coach budenholzer. Let me. I don't know if that was throwing him under the bus now. Speaking word for word but i just i wonder if that if they're sort of a rift developed between those guys if not already fox. I mean if his own if his only games when the playoffs and if that's all we knew of them is he a great player is he one of the top fifteen players in the nba. In the playoffs. I would say yes. But i would put him in the probably past the ten range. Ten to fifteen is where where i would. I would need to look up his number. But i mean he's had big games in the series. It's just when you play on stage like he did last night and he come up short. I think sort of come up short for three years. Yeah no i. I i agree that i just But it's like last night you know he's got thirty four and twelve. It's not like he was out there scorn you know four points and was completely gone but it feels like you're right. He fills up the stat sheets and then he seems to disappear. And maybe this is coincidental. But i tell you this. The time they said and i was not a kobe fan where i appreciate his tenacity. But i wasn't a big fan of his but when he the thing that always interested me was when he shot those like eight shots or whatever his rookie year in a playoff game. Any air balled like the first three and he kept shooting. They get jerry. west said. That's when we knew he was going to be great. It's like what when he had a horrible. You know because he knew that to be a great player he had to keep taking those shots and eventually he'd make them now. You could make the case jaanus you could make. The case is doing that with his three because a lot of people are saying eight threes. A game that's too much blah blah blah. Maybe this is him saying right now. It might hurt my team to take these shots but for me to be a great player. I'm going to have to hit him. I don't know if he's ever going to start hitting him because he's now you know he's not a rookie anymore. But by the way if we want to talk about pr and playoffs in the playoffs this year fourteenth best pr so not every player that could be in. The playoffs is in the playoffs. If you think of all the teams that didn't make the playoffs. Is there anyone on those teams better than that. Yeah i mean steph curry's so it feels like at least based on this year he'd be out of the top fifteen if you accounted for everyone that could be in the playoffs hypothetically but what we know for sure is you're not gonna win. Let's see if we agree with this jones. You're not going to win a title on his back with him. Plan like this and now as of right now no you can't say that. And here's here's another thing and this will take a ton of research to look into. But i wonder what he's numbers are in the final two minutes of games like especially especially in the postseason even five minutes. Yeah like final five minutes for whatever. I wonder in those chicago shut up. Yeah in those crucial numbers i would. I would love to see what his numbers are at that point. Be sure to catch. It wasn't a magic rackets overnight. Thing was an overtime in conversation. I had after a church service in said you know. I don't know what this is gonna look like. But i do know from this on. I'm going to try. Because i wasn't john for the first several months and i did tell that what i was going to try and i think that was the starting point better started to get better. The two of them talked about having more kids. But i'll will say. I wanted at least three. I honestly wanted three. And i wanted to. We also recall is one of those things are finally just kept growing. It was like eight different decisions to go off family and they were unique. All eight hundred. Shekels a surprise and people are. How'd you have a surprise it out. Well like klay called. It said there was a sibling. We didn't we and louis was a complete surprise. You some surprises in they are. We also had some the athlete. Todd was a little more surprised me. But i really okay with it. He was a little more. We want this other super careful. I think the more you grow you just adjust and we're just used to chaos now in. Todd said they all help. I had with one of my favorite musical artist carmen rodgers about her experience as an artist and her thoughts on why investing in your mental health is important as an artist. If there's something that resonates with you while enjoying our conversations please be sure to share with us on social media using the hashtag. tv in session. Here's our conversation. Thank you so much for joining us today. Jennifer thanks for having me very exciting to dig into this topic with you. So can you tell us a little bit more. About what dance and movement psychotherapy is and how you got into this view. Of course yeah dance. Movement psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that prioritizes the body. So most people think of therapy psychotherapy they think of talk therapy sitting in a chair and talking in dance movement psychotherapy we start with the body and of course we can process early but we tend to think of the body as the priority in the brain as the interpreter of what's happening in the body so in session you might be invited to notice what's happening in your body on a sensation level. You might also be invited to notice body posture. You may also be invited to move your body. Where on that spectrum. We can explore in a dance movement psychotherapy session and i got into it. Because i was a dancer answer. I dams all the way up through college and for me. Dance was very cathartic and thought well. There has to be a way to make this like a thing like a job. Profession like helping people with their emotional concerns and invite movement into the process. And at the time. I didn't know there was a whole field called dance movement psychotherapy but there isn't one side discovered it. I started moving in that direction. Yeah so cool that you were able to kind of marry the two the things that we're really interesting to you jennifer. We hear a lot about mean. I think even more in recent years around like how so much inside our bodies right like they are often memories encoded in our body in our brain that we're not able to excess verbally movement. You know things like dance and movement therapy really helps you kind of release some of that. Can you talk about the mechanisms for how that happens. Yeah so the way i look at. It is through the lens of the nervous system and when we experienced something the nervous system takes that in our autonomic nervous stem we can experience things in a place of regulation or presence. The space of the nervous system that within vega theory is called the ventral bagel branch of the nervous system. tend to call it the window presence or we can experience something and be present with it but when the nervous system is overwhelmed we might experience things that set us into a fight or flight. Response that like sympathetic nervous system activation or we can experience something that puts us in a more depressive place where we start to shut down that would be the dorsal vagus space of the nervous system in so the nervous system collects all of those experiences based on what came up for us in the moment and where we ended up within the nervous system at that time and so if we experience something similar the nerve system will trigger us to move into the response that worked for us in the past whether that be fighter flay or shutdown in sometimes. We don't actually know what's happening in that process because it happened so automatically so a lot of times people will say like. I don't even know what happened. I'm just responding in this way. And that's because the body's really wisely wired to protect us in so whatever has worked in the past based on that imprint of experience we start to move into this. Come up in the future in memory can be stored in the nervous system in a very somatic way. Meaning we feel it in our bodies even if we can't quite interpret or we don't have the visual memory that comes up with it especially if it was like early childhood trauma before the age of five where we often forget a lot of those experiences that we had so when we work with that in dance movement psychotherapy we come in with an understanding of the nervous system and how the nervous system processes experience in we invite clients in patients to explore their nervous system. Responses soda really befriend. They're nervous estonia so that when those somatic experiences come up when they start to have sensation we can really curiously explore. What's happening there on track it from sensation to the brain interpreting with us Means to reaction and if we retrieve the visual memory we can still help the nervous system discharge process in integrate on a sensation level. What has happened in that can be through more somatic work which tends to be slower kind of meditative work or bigger movement. So i feel jennifer like. I'm wondering how people would even know that something's going on for them. 'cause like you mentioned like thanks often happens so quickly that i don't think a lot of us are able to register. I'm having a reaction to a thing. And so i'm wondering how people even can kind of do a better job of like engaging with these sensations that are happening in their body and takes practice. We're such like top down society. We have this hierarchy that the brain is primary and so a lot of folks that come to see me for therapy.

"It's a saturday afternoon in december twenty seventeen and someone high school's gym the girls basketball team scuffles beneath the basket with less than a minute on the clock instead of three to four thousand fans packing the gym only a few dozen people attend mostly parents the game ends the visiting team loses already six to fifty three the crowd fins pizza is a dollar a slice now at the concession stand this is what high school basketball is like in iowa now i never did like it when they went to the five girls teams liver moser is one of the very few people in the world who still plays six on six she is part of granny league basketball an organization started in two thousand five for women fifty and older for granted league players there is a sense that something was lost when the state abandoned its six on six play when you watch sports on say casey our channel line news and they're showing them playing basketball game or basketball game the bleachers are practically empty i don't even think the parents come to watch their kids it wasn't that way when i played high school the bleachers were full when the girls played the bleachers were full nationwide title nine has been incredibly effective at increasing female participation in sports but title nine also lead to a loss of something that made iowans feel special in nineteen seventy twenty percent of all female high school athletes in the nation went to school and six years later just after title nine the rest of the country had started to catch up only five point eight percent of female high school athletes where i win much more in line with the state's population jennifer sterling says more girls are playing sports in iowa today they're just not necessarily playing basketball now girls are playing volleyball volleyball most popular sport in iowa no but if you're talking about the decline in enthusiasm for girls playing basketball the lack of fans paying attention to the game the switch away from six on six might have had something to do with it laverne moser's daughter sherry lind plays on the same granny league team as her mom she to misses the six player game might think because of the way the courts divide and that that it's a slow game but it's not slow you know and it's just a very exciting and unique gaining they're still a sense of pride when it comes to six on six especially for the women from small iowa towns played basketball in the sixties and seventies guy went to the last state six on six state tournament i got a button there says i heart six on six i mean i understand but i love the game it's been twenty five years since the last six on six game in iowa basketball is no longer queen in the state but neither is at the only game in town in many ways the story of girl's basketball and ira is the story of the nation adapting to changing times looking back and moving forward all at once that story comes to us from reporter virginia marshall only a game is produced by martin kessler and gary while with help from matthew stock our technical director is marquee neil end our senior producer karen given we say goodbye this week to alex rotter who produced many great stories for the show and helped me a lot with the computer because he knows more about computers than i do okay low bar but alex we will miss you i'm bill little field we return next week with more sports on only game thanks listening

"Tina senior year nineteen seventyeight ankle beat the powerhouse like view auburn for the state title it was just surreal it was a lot of joy in a lot of celebration in throughout the whole community tina lives in iowa city now when she goes back to ankle people still recognize her they stop her on the street they'll say i remember when you played basketball or all remember you know the team that did it ended up you know it's just like okay thanks in nineteen eightyfive tina cope neck was inducted into the ira girls high school athletic union hall of fame her high school scoring average was zero tina played six on six basketball back then all of iowa official girls high school teams played six on six the game was invented a few years after men's basketball and the eighteen ninety s and it was thought to be an appropriate modified version of the game one fit for ladies there's the line down the middle of the court so the half court line there's three women are three girls and either side of that and they can't cross that line this is jennifer sterling electoral in the sports studies program at the university of iowa so the three girls on one side are guards the three girls on the other side are forwards and so the fords all they do shoot and then the guards all they do scarred the other teams for is tina was a guard which explains zero point scoring average and the even more rules that restricted the movement of girls playing six six they were only allowed to dribble twice before passing or shooting the ball he got a little extra half steps there is some roy rules around contact as well you can't touch the basketball and it's someone else's hand so it was a less physical game and it was a less rough game i began holding statewide six six tournament for its high school girls in nineteen twenty that tournament became one of the first sporting events to be televised in nineteen fifty one and was eventually broadcast in nine states basketball was so popular for girls that by nineteen fifty five seven out of ten girls in the state play basketball in high school even though most girls in the united states at the time also played six on six the game was something iowans in particular took great pride in but that state tournament it wasn't about supporting female athletes says former ankle player tina cope nick it was about state pride they wanted this culminating tournaments to be as flashy but certainly as entertaining as as possible for all of i was support of its state tournament basketball was for many decades the only option for high school girls only in nineteen fifty five to the girls athletic union begin to include other sports softball then golf tennis and track and field by the late sixties and early seventies women across the country were starting to demand sports programs equal to those for men title nine the landmark federal regulation that prohibited discrimination based on sex became law in nineteen seventy two i think a lot of title nine stories you know title nine mark the beginning of the end at the beginning of the beginning if you're looking out for women's perspective that's jennifer sterling again after title nine most states created programs for girls five on five basketball but i will held onto its six six game e wayne cooley the head of the iowa girls high school athletic union for forty eight years wrote to the governor of iowa to say that he shouldn't be worried about title nine affecting high schools because women had such equality and i awoke and such equality in sports in iowa it wasn't until eighty three that there was a legal challenge that year three iowa girls sued the girls athletic union on the basis that six on six it self was discriminatory by then women's college teams exclusively played five on five so girls from iowa high schools still playing six on six we're at a disadvantage when it came time to play basketball in college after the lawsuit eightythree the ethnic union let each high school decide which style of basketball they would pursue ended up plame division three college basketball and i don't think i did get noticed until i started playing five on five basketball it seemed like a no brainer to switch to the kind of basketball that most of the rest of the country was already planned in nineteen ninetythree the athlete union finally voted to end six on six tirelessly but the switch to five on five in iowa came with some unexpected consequences.
