"And so he's had this whole hulk monster inside of them. So that's the premise is not that the gamma rays gave it to him. But that the gambler is unlocked, right? He's trying to get after. So. Cuts adult Bruce banner because we see him through several phases before that he's a baby, and he's kind of like a toddler and teenage jerking off in this room. And then which by the way, nothing neither look the similar Dell. The other ones. Teenager, bruce. Eric Benhamou nut. That's totally Eric band. Your face turning into not different. Her face is like that. But a little bit weird. But now Bruce banner is world renowned scientists or not wilder now. But rather he's like kind of student little above a student trying to get this research done has a presentation on gamma rays are still trying to heal frogs and kind of have the same project his dad, which he had no connection with. But somehow ended up in the same field kind of convenient. But actually address it. Sure, let's go ahead and keep with that. So in the midst of all this was Betty, Betty Ross surname, many Ross they just broke up they had their relationship. So kind of another thing not not quite an origin for their relationship more. So just a natural continuation of it. You know to have the relationship they broke up. That's good storytelling. Right. Just sometimes you don't need to have everything being exactly like the comic books. Right. So we'll just focus on how they are still working together despite having just ended their romantic relationship, and that's one of those things where it's like, you know, that's that's interesting. I don't think I've seen a movie. Open with that. Right. It's interesting. But I think the big problem with that is that they are awkward, and they have no chemistry throughout absolutely. Kindle that role. Guys. Don't not even look at each other. No, no. And it is funny watching Jennifer Conley act against Eric Bana as opposed to her acting against Sam, Elliot, right? I'm sure we'll get into Sam Elliott. Moore later semi Elliott is actually good really good. And and bene- doesn't have facial expression know, someone for someone who needs to rage Hoke out. We'll get a bit. But the conversation he's having hell you're gonna look in the body language of this experiment. Going horribly wrong. You know, the frog explodes. Whatever he's supposed to angry Jennifer Connelly puts her head dash shit. And he's yeah. Dude. See right there. You know, people are talking. But now Jennifer Connelly's there twice and then it cuts back and stuff like that. Where it's just basic camera setups that have been tried and true hundreds of years, and they decide oh, we got digital cameras. Now, we're going to start putting everything it everywhere because we can do it. Now Sam it's a comic book. I knew it. What else do you want that? What a comic book does movie isn't doesn't a comic book move. I'm just gonna cut the shit. That's why this doesn't work. Because because it's a comic book. Yes. Film and comics are two very different mediums one moves and the other one doesn't right and I'm not even going. So it kind of what you can do with a million. How much was the budget on this one hundred thirty seven million? Spoiler alert. Lady death doesn't come out in endgame. She's in the comic book. That's what is doing this whole thing. If you're from the comic book to real life that would be absurd and angry was like, no. And then he adds even more things. And and some of the transitions some of the things that he does even start affecting how seriously you take the movie. Yeah. Certain points. You're like all right. The here's a moment where you can kind of attach yourself to a character. Maybe you can understand their their their sorry back story or the sad nature. You can kind of empathize with them. But then the editing is done in such a way in the storytelling is in such a way where the way he executes it kind of makes it all joke..

"Videos. Oh, yeah. I am. And finally five just weird old actor, right? That's kind of like what he looked like. Yeah. White wizard. I. Ben Kingsley's best role. Would you say there's so many on? What was his name there mantis or though mantis different villain? I don't remember. There was something like that. Okay. What would you say? His best rhyming, obviously got he was good in Jesus. There's so many. He was in that movie. Jennifer Connelly where where he bought her house went into foreclosure that. Would that? That's a really good reheat. She's like, a young mother young girl, and her dream house goes into foreclosure, and he buys it with his family, and she's trying to get him out that he kills her one of my favorite roles that he has sopranos sopranos was yes sneakers. Oh, yeah. He's great. He's great sneakers sneakers, remade sneakers at all. No, that's such a great movie DNA to remake that. Yes. Because there's so many it was cutting edge of technology. It was about hackers and technologies of it was on the it was on the cutting edge in the eighties. So they were using dialup modems. So you make it and you make it with the new people that had Dan ackroyd and had Radford Phoenix river. Yeah. His name was the Mandarin. Yeah. Also searching for Bobby Fischer there as well. So. Great actor, sir. Ben kingsley. But he's by the way, if you've not seen him in the sopranos. Yeah. Really? The big news in science yesterday was the first ever photo of a black hole. I it looks a lot different than we thought. It was gonna picture up on TV. It looks like a blurry glowing orange Donut to fifty five million light years away and took a global team of strana mors years to capture it, and the they say that that just shows you that there's a lot of stuff out that that's to another dimension could be monsters out there. No, no, no, no. No, no. Let me ask you go read it. What is a black hole? What does a black hole? Don't care. Don't worry about it. Because it's so it's it's so a black hole. Black hole is a tear in the universe in. The black hole o clock causes it. I would say implosion of a star something that is exactly what it is. Yeah. It's an implosion of a star that impose so strong and create such a suction inside of of the star that it pulls everything into it, including light. That's what a black hole is. So if you're in its vicinity, you're getting sucked in if you're light and everything and your. Well, you're not going anywhere. You're being drawn into it. And you're what's happening is you're being destroyed Rubio part molecule by molecule, however, they say that these black holes if you know, how to go in them or whatever you can figure out a could you know, in one and come out somewhere else. Now, they're able to track down one they believe at a black hole is a center of each galaxy that you think we will eventually find out like the great movie contact which already foster one is that these black holes are nothing more than a hell of highways. And and you know, but who's going to be the brave China fly into one torn from Bittu bid. Would you like to hear from a Harvard? Scientist, I gotta go..

"Locations real actors around your show, really biting orange, and then the effects company has to match her in which a lot of extra work for them. But it'll feel real and then really grounded with people like Christoph and Jennifer Connelly, Marsha, you know, really classical actors, and in just just take it up towards the level of what Jim normally does white feels so different from my movies because his script was so clear that he could see it. But I could see it to with his eyes. And and I wanted to see that movie really badly says I'm gonna help make that think of describing so he doesn't feel like he has to be there. But he could check in often as he wants. I could Email him a question. He'd sent back. A masterful answer there was like a film school. I mean, it was so great. That's awesome. As a couple of things I'm asking about that. Let's start with the casting his I mean, you've got, you know, relatively unknown Roseanne delayed like she's done. Some some great stuff in you know, the scorch trials and maze runner films and think she's in divergent as well. So she's a bit of a background with these films. But this is still this is a whole other level. This is all on hers techno technical challenge. But she's so great all disappear. The technology disappear with her you have a helmet on this whole sued backpack. And it would just be her coming through almost like neutralized or in a way. So she didn't have to worry about costumer or anything just be from the inside out playing the character, which is the best. And then how about like like, you said marshland, Jennifer and Christopher Rondo I mean, three Oscar winners kind of embarrassment of riches. And it's such it's so amazing to work with people like that whenever I've had like a actors of that caliber. I mean, you really can tell the difference. I mean, so well trained professionally help you so much 'cause they just they just know the job, and they can come in and effortlessly become someone else. They're always super collaborative. They love to be directed because they know that they are, you know, they've achieved such a status that sometimes someone might not want to direct them so much because they're little intimidated, and you just they invited there and they try to really break the ice. They know come tell me what you think I wanna I don't wanna just do myself. I wanna I wanna be pushed to try things and always helpful suggestions on how to combine this or this scene work a little bit better. So always really welcome to have people like them. And you've got some of your old collaborators in there as well. Jeff, and oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Jimmy worked with her to own avatar. So we both knew her. But that was like the first thing we said, we should get Michelle Rodriguez this for all we both love her. And she is she would be the sense eight to alita. She's so bad as is so funny. So she was great, Jeff. Yeah. There was a small role for like a cowboy cyborg, and I thought that artwork. Even kind of looked like Jeff Fahey Jeff in there. Jeff Jeff would show up with bells on always helpful. No matter what it is no matter how small roller bigger role. He's always right there. And cyborg dogs is something. I haven't seen thought you'd have some cool cyborg dogs round you that will look totally real like, they're really they're and they're fantastic. There's so many great details in the movie, the weather guys, just you know, are on a whole, you know, the talk about Oscar winner, Utah screen actors Oscar-winning, there's overly so effects company is just like with the actress they set the bar so much higher than you could ever set for them. So if they sent me a FEC shot..

"Today, we're reviewing phenomena or are we reviewing creepers starring Jennifer Connelly Doria Nickelodeon with Dahlia Delos REO and Donald Pleasants as John MacGregor directed by Dario are Gento. This is the now playing goes to prefers Richard Wagner to Richard Gere Arnie Stewart, and I'm not crazy, schizophrenic epileptic or stone. I'm just trying to make sense of this Bill, and this is the Lord of the flies. I don't know what this movie is fire starter with bugs. Yes, this Jacob. Thank you silver level donors, because well, I think you wanted the three mothers into spirit of but we just decided five podcasts are better than four. They might have just wanted some night. I mean, let's be honest. This was just the thing in their way to getting what we're doing in November perhaps this is m night worthy though. Wait to get into it. I feel like it's a warm up for some of the crazy ass shit. We're going to be talking about in just a few weeks. Yeah. Back in the day. This would have been one of those eastern Bod cast, man. Wow. This film. This could have been the concluding chapter of three mothers had things gone well on inferno. I think we see trace elements of the story that Dario was plotting. It is known that he had cast Jennifer Connelly to be the third mother one of the witches in the poem one of the fates as it were that he was going to make a witch out of the young one. And so he was going to go with other worldly woman child fourteen year old that looks fully developed and Jennifer Connelly definitely plays with that both here and in labyrinth. Here's the funny thing about this movie is that's the whole podcast is the funny thing about this movie. Stewart had mentioned phenomenon mentioned that it was. A good to do for a couple reasons you said that it could have been the concluding trapped of the three mothers trilogy, you mentioned starry or Gento favorite of his own Yalo. Yes. Says it's a very personal film which begs lots of questions about what he's done in his life. He ever I think I know what he meant. But boy. Yeah. But for me, I picked up the synapse Blu. Ray? It had the nice art on the cover three cuts of this movie. And you told me it was called creepers in the US and had Jennifer Connelly. And I'm like, okay. Yeah. Whatever don't know it. But then I finally look up creepers, and I see the poster and that video box haunted me like I loved the art on that video box and came so close to renting it so many times in my high school years together. All those years, we talk about just trolling our local video stores when they had sections devoted genre. And being in the horror section seeing this creepers and Jennifer con. Only silhouette and all the bugs, and it was right next to the curse. I think. That's why didn't watch because I watched that will weep and piece of shits and like, I don't wanna watch another young person with bug stuff. But this box had long vexed me. So I'm actually getting to see a movie that I'd been thinking about seeing for twenty five years now absolately I saw this movie back in the heyday of renting the HFS, and it was because of the box art, I didn't know who Dario agenda was that meant nothing to me. I think I had seen labyrinth. I think I knew Jennifer Connelly, and I certainly knew with Donald Pleasants here. I gave it some horror credit and certainly watching insects eating away. Jennifer Connelly's face on the cover of it. They call the creepers, and it made it seem like the bugs, we're going to eat you. And so I just thought that was really cool idea and branded it, and I told you guys there are three cuts of this movie is Arnie mentioned whatever you do. Don't see the creepers cut because it don't make no. No sense. No, kind of this ever gonna make sense..

"I think like 'cause Kingsley Nagy dash Lou all three of them shipping on anyway. And so she still at this point, like a prestige actress, and she's kind of like now the Queen of cinematic suffering. She's long ring. Yeah, the long suffering wife emotionally, or she can be like requiem for throw everything at her because five, you got dark water, which is a decent little Har. I think six. You have little children. Like has such an uninteresting do. Yeah, winslet's movie is is let's wins that's moving. And it's so weird. You go like, okay, so now it's two thousand six, Jennifer collies five years on from winning an Oscar, and we don't know what to do with her. She's already in a rut. I also think she's one of those beautiful actresses, very pretty. I don't know. I don't know what it is like. I don't know why it is that maybe it's just 'cause she plays a lot of like dark characters like she rarely got like she by the time she's in. He's just nothing into your, which is nine. She's also really fucking good. I, I don't remember honestly is bad, and it's another one of those things where every time they cut the Jennifer Connelly plotline. You're like, Jennifer, you don't have to work this hard. I know. In house of Santon. All right. But it felt like one of those things where she's like, Finally, I get to play like a not suicidal characters. She plays it really sad. Yeah. And then it's just it's just over for her. I mean, obviously she's in. So she's in like the dilemma. She's in no of just like playing with With her. her former recommend director, which like she solid all these things, but you feel like she doesn't really get. Got got the fucking dilemma. We ma'am. But anyway, she's good miss. This is her big post Oscar. Lap. Yeah, she's good. And she could throw. Betty Ross is a rough road because it's basically like a certain point. You just wanna be to Betty wrassling fucker. You doing this like outta here, but I think what helps us movie is making it so much about her relationship with her father. And so we're giving her the reigns of the story because yeah, very shortly after this Bruce gets into the accident gamma accident the in the lab, he pushes rank in out of the way and stands in front of the sans in front of a big metal ball and everything turns green. Yeah, because like you know, the classical accidents like a nuclear test accident, and I guess they just keep on seeing what We we say. saying they decide to link it through that, like dual thing like, yes, in the past, there was a nuclear test and then this is what I'm locks it. I guess just deciding like no one tests, nuclear bombs in two thousand three. So it's not do that. I guess that's the idea which like, here's a thing. I love in this movie like amazing Spiderman to a garbage film made garbage people. Tried to do the thing where it's like, but he was destined to be Spiderman all along his father experimented on him, the spider by I've forgotten walked it. Yeah, like he was always gonna be Spiderman. Who cares? Who cares? This movie's actually saying something which heroism Spiderman is that he gets the powers and realizes there for good, right? Like learning, very tragic. But like you know what I mean? Like fun. If he's been groomed for the role, Spiderman is that he was not a likely superhero uses to do the right Ben. You wanna God this. It was a spider and not like another kind of net net. Now massing. Massing. They make it this whole fucking thing in this movie. It's like a pretty good sort of analog for like, he's got this repressed trauma, and the gamma radiation is like the triggering incident, you know? Exactly, right. It's like, it's not the thing that turns them into the hawk that's been inside of that's always. His name. It's just a monster, right? It's not him. It's his worst or whatever most angry, but that's also what happens to people who experienced great trauma is it's like they usually don't breakdown immediately afterward, especially if it's childhood trauma. It's fair like very often you have people like Bruce banner seem really boring and really together and then just have a complete psychotic break at some point..

"That's that is the fifteenth. Embarrassing thing. I've said this hour. Yes. Yeah. You you like, you know, got coffee this morning probably said six basing things. Yeah, I said x. raspberry, please. Hulk hulk two thousand. We were going to do hulking the hulk way back when, right? Yeah. So. This was going to be one of our first one offs when when you're still in the Star Wars days, because I think this is like it's a fascinating movie. We we both think this is like totally fascinating movie. And such fascinating is the like superheroes genre emerged after it like right, and I think this is exactly the kind of movie you only get to make when industries in weird transitional stay right. Trying to figure out what these movies even are. Exactly. You haven't really cast the die yet or set the mold for these things, but also this is the kind of movie you get to make when you direct a foreign language film that makes a hundred twenty million. Sure, right. Exactly. And that's like the blank check phenomenon that unite talk about which isn't just like. I made a hit. It's like, how? How did that were? Right? You did something that on paper would never go. Right? So the studio just has to give you money because they can't rip you off. They're like, they've figured something out. We need to give them another bat and beyond that, it's like they can bell even give you a property like this one beloved comic book character, right? And you're going to say, like, I'm going to do these five things that a lesser director would just get slapped down for us. And this is a movie that was in development, hell for decades, right? So it's not like people had come with, takes in the studio would always be like now. No, I don't think so. You know, like so an angry is like, yeah, I wanted to look like a comic book and it's going to be about like boiling Freudian rage and like I'll play the hulk and they're like, yeah, do it. That's like, what's fascinating about this movie is he like plays both extremes where it's like you have these dramatic scenes that you would never see an accomplished movie ever again. But then he visually designs those scenes to look like a comic. It's crazy. It's crazy movie to watch so much of this movie is Jennifer Connelly talking to her father? Yeah, a lot of it. Yeah, like I was watching this time for how quickly it all goes down, which is moving..

"And a very young jennifer connelly jennifer connelly's only about two months younger than me and she's yeah and a monte i think was born the same year that i was and david is an out my two six months older than me so so a contemporary and so yeah when she was what fourteen or whatever jennifer connelly made labyrinth answer and she is she is the protagonist of of course david bowie gets top billing because it's david bowie but jennifer connelly's in almost every shot it's true she's the stock yeah i was thinking about as as like this is my eighth grade classmate or whatever basically because that's basically it like exum than than she was in a movie the your left left the th grade and went and and was in a movie instead a movie uh produced by george lucas two match him hell yeah i did it did i mentioned of course why not yet you've got to names into the number of people of all this there so now there's some there's so many but the george lucas is a good example but i was thinking about george lucas throughout this movie because of course one of the things that i was thinking of all watching it is interesting uses of mixing up puppets with people and i i've always thought that one of the interesting decisions the star wars movies made was saying know the new djeddai master that dr luke has to go meet it's going to be a puppet like to be like dotes falling we're going to have characters who are puppets and and i was thinking about that with with labyrinth because of course most of the characters in this film are puppets the main puppet isn't a puppet which i think is fascinating honggul is.

"Jennifer connelly's just terrific in the film miles teller plays a young man who's addicted to drugs who has to go through rehab whose life is a massey's just gotten his girlfriend pregnant and he actually this all based on real people they actually take him into this group the granite mountain odd shots and he finds himself together with the camaraderie of the other people who have committed themselves to fighting fires jeff bridges is a in the film playing a veteran old time fire chief and he's terrific two at every one of the performances is creates a character that you believe in now even if you know the story of what happened to these guys and that would be my only question is you don't really understand some of the details of of what went wrong and but you do feel some of the pain that some of the characters have to endure three and a half stars for only the brave and this is a rated pg 13 it's rated pg 13 because of references to sexuality and drunkenness and some tough language but you really do come across uh with a a real feeling of place and a real feeling of that every day heroism of the people who give their lives to this particular cause of keeping the rest of us safer and one of the things that i couldn't help thinking of watching this movie is for people who are very depressed about america these are not flawless people they're not perfect people uh they party hard uh some of them have drinking problems um but it's it's really the heart and soul of how decent this country is that we still produce people like this of all ages and that they can still make a movie like this that celebrates that kind of every day heroism three and a half stars for only the brave you'll be super prized at how will you respond and how much you feel satisfied and inspired by this particular movie we'll be right back bob michael medved show blossom and honored or the equivalent you got.

"He's basically got an iron mans to you know it's a stark constructed 'spiderman's it that he's using complete with essentially his own jarvis aka suit lady aka karen aka jennifer connelly who is voicing this character who is married in real life to paul bet knee aka a the vision aka the original jarvis so that's a really fun connection between karen and jarvis celts vitamins qasim once it gets off of training wills mode i thought that that was pretty spectacular but the thing that i really liked antonio is once again kind of taking a superhero trope and flipping it on its head the thing that you've seen in spiderman movies in fact but you often we'll see in a lot of a superhero origin stories or first instalments of a superhero franchise is like you've got that lake diy costume in your wearing that for like the first quarter or third of the movie and then you get the super awesome cost him in that your cost him for the rest of moving then it's going to get battle damaged at some point there's your third actionfigure in in this you know he started off with a with a diy spiderman cautioned that you see at a trace amount of in civil war and you see him wearing very quickly in the peter parker zone movies cut but really the movie is pretty much right out the gate it spiderman in goals biter man regalia and the thing that changes is once tony brings up the whole idea of if you're not you know if you're you're not worthy of the sued if you can't be important outside of suit or whatever it is that he says his basically his version of great our engrave responsibility and that launches into the final action know packed act of the movie wear peter isn't wearing the classic spiderman costume he is wearing his diy costume i think that the the flip of that that arc of like going to just like being a more natural as despite or manage as being peter parker more than being spiderman was really really awesome and a and a really cool subversion of that severe drought.
