"They almost like forgot to get intimidated right. They haven't been injured yet in lost two years. Do a knee rehab so they they don't realize how truly special this opportunity and that's fun to watch. Why but that was the way we grew up. We watch tennis. Like tracy austin was like sixty place. Finals jenner capital was fourteen. Yeah we're ti she. Jennifer capriati won a tournament and they. They gave her a porsche and she wasn't loud enough to drive it right. Yeah right all right so my last question be did drive it. But she proven high. She was a then. She opened that great sandwich shop. All right so. I wanna ask you before we take a break and then do some quick kids. You know i want to ask you. Is it possible. And how do we essentially revive. American men's tennis like is that a possibility are there guys in the pipeline that we should be excited. But who who else well brad. Gilbert has been a broken record on this topic and his said until american juniors play thirty to forty percent of their competitive matches on clay. We will not create more champions in europe. You play on a slow red clay court for half the year outdoors indoors. You plan a fast. Indoor carpet have no choice but to develop a complete all around game right I came through the american junior tennis system with no thanks to the. Usda who never had any support or any money from them but played their tournaments right. It's all hardcourts man. I had a big serve. And i could run to the net and then if you hit the ball to me twice. I didn't really have any you know. I had a very low shot. Tolerance if i watch these medvedev. There was a joke of each very of point in the semi finals. They were kind of like back and four in the one. No one was really showing their cars and all of a sudden have fifty three ball. Rally ask just opened everything up and opened up the emotions that opened up the crowd and opened up. Zverev second serve was getting a little wobbly. After that. And i was just thinking i bet you in all of my life of playing tennis. I've never even. I bet you have played sets with less than fifty three shots as a junior tennis clubs cities that have courts they need to. They need more clay courts. That's my answer. But that's basically a copy dancer of brad gilbert who agree with so. Why don't they do that. they should i mean the. Usda makes roughly four hundred million dollars every us open now. This us open was weird because last year they had no fans and i'm sure they're operating under a deficit. I know australian open lost like seventeen million dollars last year. All sports is crazy. Weird this year. You know the country clubs do have clay courts. But it's a very good question. And i don't know why i got a little crappy little court down here in my neighborhood in brooklyn like it should be clay lined up every day to play on it. Let's throw in ten bucks label klay on. It just ruined your shoes a little bit..

Coco Gauff stuns Naomi Osaka at the Australian Open, taking a straight sets win in the third round

"Cocoa Gov. We talked about her the other day and how she comes back in matches says he dropped a set but then as the comeback. He's done incredible number of times the two years. She didn't need that today the fifteen year old over Osaka six three a six four defending champ. Kp what does it mean and are you willing to say the future is upon us of course futures are put us. You've got to love the cocoa right. Look what she did. She extinguished will stock of their. Who beat her? The last time out in a in a in a slam She got by Venus Williams earlier. She's advancing quicker and faster than anyone thought. We've had three sixteen year old winters winters. I believe in the women's side and Slams Austin and sellers and so that's what her opportunity is here. Right now with Serena out of the mix of course course is still there who beat her last time out so she's got to get over that and then some other really good players out there but this is a chance for history right what he page which you can see improvement. I mean she's the only player very joe neither side men or women to get to the third round and win in in three majors or I three majors so you could see the improvement. Let's look at her serve. I think that's the most important thing that I saw was that she was the last time she did lose. Who's she was around? Forty five percent of first serves seventy five percent in this batch. I mean think about the difference there that we're talking and her experience now that she's able to actually do more things because she has been here before he does not. She still has nerves. But we saw with a double-fault twice in a row except that she's going to improve on that as she goes along becomes. It's absolutely remarkable just historic the numbers. I mean she's the youngest player to beat a top five opponent on the tour and nearly thirty years that was Jennifer Capriati Serena who came forward but actually the number that jumps out to me. The most Tony was seventeen eighteen. That's the number of unforced errors. She had which was about half of what saga had. And I think signifies the level of poise. She's playing with which must be infuriating. ASAKA UH admitted. It was infuriating losing to someone that much younger than her. I know some of the fellow panelist today show. How about that Thursday? I'm just glad we're not talking about how Osaka might never win again. because she got beaten by someone that sheet so easily chip you and we're talking to mean to menas point Most of the players that are in the Australian junior open right now are older than cocoa golf off. That's how young she is. She's doing this at an age that we just haven't seen before and everybody's points are valid the poise. That's there the ability to play without too many errors in the future is

We just thought that was an amazing situation. He found himself in Gary Grimes. Well, it's funny because people don't know let me just say, what the situation was he's on an island. He spends the summer on an island on the east coast and Jennifer Neil is there and she's beautiful. And he does odd jobs for her legitimate, odd jobs. Fixes stuff around her her. Yeah. Handy. Maybe here, let me pull it up from nineteen seventy-one, by the way, seventy one director, Robert Mulligan's, he related to Richard because they okay he they look so much alike. Gary Grimes was her me wanted to know how old he was at the time I think his character would have been about sixteen. I think he was probably around there. He wasn't in many other things he was in the Cowboys. The John Wayne movie in one or two other minor movies. But nothing major the Curie Houser was in a thousand things. Was on, we'll get by with. We'll get by that was a sitcom with pulse survey. No. Appall servino. He was sitcom Mira Sorvino to. Oh, I'm Daria. Jerry. Oh, I know him as an adult. Oh, that's right. He does the voice, he still does someone slam. So, yeah. Curly hair. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of Michael Keane. Yes. But not as good looking like a right, like a goofy, like before they perfected, Michael on. They were just kind of put this on the joint board. We'll see how it looks Jerry Houser still here. He does commercials all the time. Still hear his voice on commercials. All right. Somebody says can we stop saying that Angelina Jolie, still Brad Pitt away from Jan? He wasn't a five year old you know, technically that's correct. We have to put as much blame on Brad Pitt his engine Lena, Julie and someone wants to know if you would like Jennifer Coolidge. Oh, she's interesting. Stiffler flers. Mom. She's interesting. But I still think, right. New feel on this. Yes. Yes, it does about now. Yeah. All right. So let's say hypothetically, you won a Jennifer. It could Jennifer Aniston. It could be Jennifer Connelly. It could be horri- love Hewitt's Lopez Hewitt for a while. But Bill back down poster of her in college. She's the one way crossed off first on my list. Guys. Thanks ninety. Eight when can't hardly wait came out. That was that was that was my thing. Thing. "The sixty minute man there has to be more. Jennifer Hudson is great. Who else there's a couple of others? There's just something about that name if you name, Jennifer love Hewitt, Jennifer love Hewitt, sawn. You don't want her. I don't think I'd do the first one. I'm sorry for listening. Jennifer love Hewitt, but I think she'd be the first one I would cross off. You know why? Talk show once she was on Rosie O'Donnell show on this is years and years ago before I started a relationship. View back. I could watch any show. I wanted, but now it has to be the view and Jennifer love who is on. And she said Rosie O'Donnell, I wish people would just call me love. And then Rosie o'donald just called her love through the rest of the interview and it made my stomach hurt. I was watching it going. That's ridiculous. Call me love. There's Jennifer McCarthy, I guess she technically goes. Yeah. That's too much for me. Because he's had a Walberg. Yeah. Jennifer Tilly remember, her great actress. She's interesting too interesting. Jennifer, Jason Leigh. Interesting again, but not, not in my opinion that for you, not up to the level of the other jennifers that we've mentioned Jennifer gray. I like Jennifer grey, allied, post-surgery or with the bigger knows I would ask her. I request but could you please have your old nose back? I would like I like the more pronounced knows on her. I thought that was better for her. He's all good. Jennifer beals questioned lovely. Yeah. Jennifer beals though, but I'm still leaning toward either. Jennifer garner. Jennifer Aniston, but all the other jennifers, you've mentioned, all points, Jennifer Capriati. Oh, do like her. But she was big dope. Head. I would have to ask you, please not be a dope pet anymore. Santa for Jones, Jennifer Jones, the actress from one thousand years ago. Yes. Yeah, I guess, more than nineteen nineteen jobs for nettles. She's a singer. I don't know who she is Jenny slate pretty funny. I do like Jenny slate. But again, she's a big dope. Head. Did you know that she's a big user of marijuana? That's not a Dell pad. She's a dope head. She I just read that she's going to be is that in wine country. We were talking Anders album from decider dot com on the regular part of the show, and I think she's involved with all these funny women in the movie. Wine country. I think Jennifer Flavin ten aflame. Wasn't married to still. Thinks she still is she still is. I think so. Yeah, I'm pretty sure she is. Jennifer O'Neill do, like Jennifer O'Neill some reforms to boy. That was a quick did you when that was on the ABC three thirty move school moving? Did you did you like? All right. I don't know how I would feel if I was watching this movie, and I was a girl. But as a guy just for me, but all my friends, my guy, friends, who would watch it. We would just say that be the best thing in the world. We just thought that was an amazing situation. He found himself in Gary Grimes. Well, it's funny because people don't know let me just say, what the situation was, he's on an island spends the summer on an island on the east, coast and Jennifer Neil is there and she's beautiful. And he does odd jobs for her legitimate, odd jobs. Fixes stuff around her her. Yeah. Handy kid. I see. Schick, her see Shak? Steve see shack, which is for the cubs. So, so then she finds out sadly that her husband has died in the war, and then she's lonely, Gary Grimes, which, you know, in it, how old were we when that came out in the seventies, right? I came out in nineteen sixty nineteen seventy all right? So we were. Yeah. I thought it was romantic and all in, and then, even as I got older. I'm like, wow. That's, that's kind of cool story. Her me, you know, for me. Hermes ascii. But then as I had boys. Yeah. I'm like that can't happen. Yeah. I've said this before there were a bunch of movies that were out when we were pre teenagers teenagers, and of that era, and when you're a kid, and you watch y so great, but as an adult, you watch them, they're very cringe-worthy, that is not accept not acceptable. How old would he have been in that movie like sixteen or seventeen? And she was in her late twenties. Oh, neil. Pretty. She really was. Who is Oskoui, his friend was Jerry Houser? Ascii was Jerry Houser her was Gary Grimes as you mentioned. There was a third kid with glass. Mulligan was in that movie. Not, not Richard mulligan. Robert Gulligan at looks very much. Like Richard director a revolt. Okay. Directed at maybe here, let me pull it up from nineteen seventy-one, by the way, seventy one. Director Robert mulligan related to Richard because they broke okay? They look so much alike. Gary Grimes was her me wanted to know how old he was at the time I think his character would about sixteen. I think he was probably around there. He wasn't in many other things he was in the Cowboys. The John Wayne movie, and one or two other minor movies, but nothing major. But Kerry, Houser was in a thousand things. Was muffin. We'll get by what's, we'll get by. That was a succumb with pulse survey. No. Appall servino. He was sitcom Mira Sorvino. Oh, I'm Daria fair. Jerry. Oh, I know him as an adult. Oh, that's right. He does the voice, he still does so much. Yeah. Curly hair. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of a Michael onto Qianlong, but not as good looking, like, right. Like a goofy like before they perfected Mike along when they were just kind of put this on the joint board. We'll see how it looks that was Jerry Houser still here. He does commercials all the time. "Live. Hear you. John setting. How can you guys were frontward facing caps and have headphones be comfortable what what's stopping them from not being comfortable? Like, there's nothing. There's it's the same. Exact same exact thing for me, man. I don't know. For some reason I am unable to wear a frontward facing ball cap and headphones at the same time to throw on rookie. Let's take just struggled with it for two minutes and thirty. Pull it off. Well, like, maybe you just need a little coaching. I'm on edge because I had a very frustrating time trying to deal with that. And now and the bone TV has to look at this hair that I haven't prepared for them today. Why you don't you don't like it anymore? I don't I'm not saying I dislike or like it. But had I known that. I'd be exposing the world to my hair, I would've at least tried to do something as opposed to throwing by Tampa Bay Lightning cap on it special lightning dated it what the hell is going on. I'm not allowed to say. Yeah. No, sir. I mean, I don't know what today's a special day. Well, I don't know. There's something going on at the game tonight. Is it the fact that we're all going that probably pretty special the selling point? I think I don't want to make us feel less special. But I think everybody in the local media has gone tonight. Now why because Danielle from ninety four nine got invited. So you feel like the flood gates are open. I did not know that. Who's going? I will. Who I'm sitting by? You're sitting by who wo- guys little aggressive. Well, who am I sitting by? I don't know. On the air each other. I say nowhere. You're sitting just give me one of those opportunities to put me in my place. I'm not going to be in the three hundred and how do you know where I'm sitting in my being honored tonight. And they gave you a heads up. Because I I gotta get ready to be honored. That's what I initially thought was that they will be honoring set the mbassador of hockey to me because I would not appreciate hockey if not for your early assistant. That's right. Everybody needs to know that. But unfortunately, no, they're not paying homage to you there tonight. Pastor. I don't know there's going to be something special tonight because they said being your seats by seven fifteen so I will do or no earlier than some fifteen and no later than seven thirty or are they announcing that they acquired Anthony Davis at the deadline, man. No. But neither I think are the Lakers, and we don't talk a lot if any NBA on this show, but what a weird messed up situation, and we shouldn't talk about the NBA. But I will say this the most fascinating thing about the NBA is where the players going each year and that that's the I can't enjoy basketball game. But man, I love hearing about the specs speculation about where these guys are going to end up next and how it's going to shift the balance of power in the NBA. Well, from what I keep here was hearing this morning. They're now saying that this was all just a big ruse. But from the pelicans to screw over the Lakers. Because now they were they pretty much had a trade on the table that the Lakers were probably interested in that would have given away the entire team. So now the entire team hates the coach. And LeBron, and it was probably just all a setup to make them all hate each other. We're talking about how we don't talk about the NBA. Now, we're talking about the NBA. The thing is you're so right about the off season trades because I can't even watch the regular season anymore. I catch the highlights on ESPN. But I have so fallen out of love with that sport. Because there's no defense at all. It's it's a joke until you get to the playoffs. And then you pretty much know Golden State is gonna win anyway. But the fact that there's so little I don't wanna call because the owners don't have loyalty to the players and vice versa. But there's so little hometown feeling of you've got a guy for his whole career. It just doesn't happen anymore. You don't have the Larry Bird in Boston. The magic in L A the Isaiah in Detroit. You got guys who two years go. I'll go back to the city that I just left five years ago. Well, that's why I'm happy to have had stamkos and men and guys like that for their whole careers. I read a write up Sports Illustrated dot com about coach Cooper last night. That was just fascinating about the whole coaching staff and the room that they have to watch games in their relationship with each other. They've created their own lingo that they use Cooper's a big wine guy. So he'll unwind with a with a cab. Or whatever, I know. A and and it just seems like such a good bunch of dudes. I guess coach Cooper. And I would have had no idea. How to not read this relies on? Stamkos to be the pushback guy to him. He he an stamkos will butt heads. But still respect each other. So he knows that he can bring him something. And if it's bad he's going to get some pushback or some tweaks or whatever, and I think that's incredibly valuable between a a Phil Jackson and a Kobe Bryant if you and I've been reading a lot in the Tampa Bay times or wherever calling now about hey, it's baseball season. It's baseball baseball's. Here the baseball. I know people are excited the raise look like they have a good young team this year. I saw they are predicted to make the playoffs. But this is about the lightning right now the best team in hockey and they're here to win the Stanley Cup. And and we gotta get on board ride this out look at New England right now, they are celebrating their sixth Super Bowl, and whether you love hate or indifferent to the New England Patriots. That city got to celebrate this past week something that every city envy's right? What's our best chance to celebrate? That ourselves. Your Tampa Bay Lightning. So you know, I they should sell out the rest of the year. And if they don't that's a crying shame because going to a game will make you a fan if you were not one before. And I'll tell you this is there is really something special. You want to know what to me embodies the the raise, and I'm not looking at trash anybody or anything. But do you see this on Twitter today? Do you see what happened? I guess a fan of theirs. Begged them for a follow on Twitter. Okay. Not bad. But said, hey, by the way, that's very unseemly thing to do. It's kind of gross. Like, hey, would you follow me? But then again. You're a brand or a team. I think I think that's okay. All right. So you don't really know who you're talking to us. We'll just say, you know, no, actually, Alpi block organised charity thing where you kept asking. Stamkos follow. That is true. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe he's gonna confront you tonight. Maybe that's the special lightning thing. That'd be good. And we'll fight in the punch out fourteen after he's long retired. And I still won't be able to kick his ass. But the thing is if you ask me like will you follow me? I'm just gonna I might or might not do it. You ask a team though. Like, you said, they kind of have the obligation. So the the race tweeted back thirsty. Oh, that's funny. It's funny. But do you have the luxury of doing that when you're the third sports franchise? But I don't know second is a flaming hot you hurt that guy's feelings. But how many people looked at that and laughed? The people were like, oh, they're on their social media game funny. Let me find out. I'll give you a live. Also, did they follow him after that question? Hold on one. Second take a look here. Because sometimes what do you say? Yeah. You got a crack a few eggs to make an omelet. Sometimes you have to get after a caller to the show for the thousands of people that are listening. Maybe they have to get after one guy who's tweeting for the hundreds of thousands of people that follow them or talk radio program based on a bombastic confrontational style. They are team in desperate need of filling their stadium with people who go see it. They're closing off section. You no longer will be allowed to sit in the upper level during any. Here's the thing. They're all making money still would love free to shove to the game. Yes. Horrible some of the worst in MLB, but they're all still making their money. The players are making their money. The owners are making their money the people in the front office or making it sure the players certainly are so okay. So they at midnight, by the way, tweeted thirsty leg middle of the night. Some social media person goes, thirsty, whatever. So first response. He asked nicely guy rug emoji next one you want fans at games yet. Call them thirsty when they for a follow y'all be the thirsty ones. When no one's at the games per usual. And then someone did use the gift of the girl. The spitting laughing you've seen her. Chubby chubbier, Jennifer Capriati. Sure. Well, I mean, I don't have any call, Jennifer. I hope I hope that that's not insulting. Struggle. She's still alive. Right. I hope so man, when's the last time you heard about Jennifer Capriati way. We'd we'd arrest a couple of like probably fifteen years ago. Maybe that was all that was when I was a kid that was a long time ago, maybe twenty years ago, we'd arrest and then something else in the last in the last ten years. I wanna say the people who don't know who you're talking about. What who doesn't know former? Jennifer Capriati the hot young on the scene many years ago. She lives in Wesley chapel. No. She liked to apologize for. That was a big fan residents. Wesley chapel was a Tampa, Florida. Now, it looks like outlet mall is where Miguel total. Lagoon over there. Oh, yeah. They got a lagoon isn't that big lagoon is that big manmade lake? They just put in in Wesley chapel. I don't know. I don't know. Nothing about man. This thing looks awesome. We should get out there. Sometimes it's not a it's not a black lagoon. Racially insensitive way. I just mean. A creature from the black lagoon that was right about this is the first three D movies if I'm not mistaken Wesley chapel's crystal lagoon. All right. I mean, it's a real thing was is a place where you can visit take the kids vacation. What is it live in Wesley chapel? Four months of coming. God's is Wesley chapel is crystalline was supposed to open and residents are growing more anxious supposed to open this is from August, though, they open I'll do a whole I'll do a whole expose on this lagoon coming up later in the show the podcast. Boats. That's what we're talking. I wanted this. I wanted to say, hey, I I think I might have some insight on what what might be the special announcement. Thank you. I appreciate that very much awesome. Thanks look forward to that insight tonight. When I get in my seat or very plugged no spoilers two seven five seven five to seven point five acre crystal clear lagoon, it is open and it's just a lagoon pro-. Yeah. It's a big lagoon. And I don't mean that in an insulting way he's killing people. He wants to he says he says he feels like he was alliance sent by God to heal and kill people. Oh, yeah. That fits right down in Florida in that order. I well, I think I don't think you can heal them after you kill them. So next to this guy at the lightning game tonight. No, you're you're in a great space home. I buy I don't know. I don't know who your neighbors are. But what? But when I sat where you're sitting there there were very nice people all around. "I think it is one of many very good times. I am really enjoying what's going on imagine tonight MIR soccer. The Serena Williams is still Venus Williams is still there you go into Salamanca count, Almasy Aki and cement heartbreaking that ducks and becoming Wellborn this this could storylines out there. But goodness me over the years. You think back to when Kleist isn't where where where there and Jennifer Capriati, Artie and Steffi Graf before that and then go back further Martina Navratilova, and Chris Evert this being so many good years and decades and generation. So much. I'm delighted you're enjoying grant. And I get why why the variety of win is is some people might not like it some people love it it. I find it very exciting. I lo- to good plans to watch lots to get your teeth into dubbing is the best year ever know that. I think that's really well said I mean, my memory doesn't get back as far as yours. And I I it's great. I was just is great regret that I wish I'd experienced ever Nevada live. I really wish that. But I mean, yes, I point willing. And yeah, I n clauses in a. Yeah. All the ones you mentioned brilliant Martine hangers won Wimbledon when she was fifteen. Played the game differently too. You know? I mean. Yeah. You don't need us to maybe do. But look, I I end exactly David said, I'm just going to repeat it. But tennis women's is is in a brilliant spot at the moment. I really think that the Serena story continues to be exceptional. And if and when she gets to twenty four all and becomes. She might be the first woman to grand slam of the of the coming back from pregnancy. But to me, it's not just about coming back from pregnancy is about her coming back from nearly dying and all the rest of it. So if when she does that it will be one of the greatest sporting stories of all time he saw that. We just can't get enough of seeing lyrical about it's absolutely brilliant. But. It has been brilliant many points in the past if the twenty years we've had a mean Serena Venus Williams as as a I mean, they are one of the greatest sporting stories ever their success. There for the whole Genesis of all every aspect of it is one of the greatest sporting stories have and. Yeah. Women's tennis bidding just fine for long time. "So maybe what you do is you have Kyla Murray, maybe drift. Kyla marie? And you go the boys more ravens route. And you pick the quarterback who's going to run that run and pass. Or maybe you take Joe flacco haven't come down forty miles money house you lie manning, you wait for Alex Smith in a sense that you welcome him back when he's ready, but you cannot count on him. So the answer is you move quickly laws quarterback. There's some franchises that we've talked about on this air who have already named put together a depth chart and named next year's starter. That's right. I mean, people do that. It's ridiculous showy. But in the Redskins case, Tony they haven't had. When is the last time? They. Had an entrenched quarterback. It's been a while. It's they thought Alex Smith would be that guy goes Griffin was not and cousins he was a flash. By the way, I've just thought of this USB who should coach the Lakers. You only have to go fifteen feet, Jack Nicholson. Jackson, the games, he still paying attention. That'd be craving. Lebron both in the same movie business. Nickell Robey Coleman your boy. Yeah. The same Rams cornerback who should have cost his team spot in the Super Bowl with that uncalled pass it appears filthy New Orleans did a whole lot of mouth off to Bleacher report about Tom Brady slowing down. He would go quote age is definitely taken a toll. I think he's definitely not the same quarterback. He was movement speed velocity, arm, strength, whatever he was doing because of his age and all that he's not doing as much of it anymore. Close quote, Tony. These fighting words, are you? Okay. With some of this assessment. It is very possible that everything this gentleman says is true. And that he's seen it on film. Very possible. You have to be crazy to say out loud to Tom Brady, Tom Brady, and Michael Jordan are the same person they need to invent villains. And they need to play against these villains. My one would success, Michael Jordan famously did this. He invented quotes that he thought the Bradford Smith Braford said about him and destroy them in the next game. A little Bradford says said nothing in the car this guy. Said it Tom Brady who remembers every quarterback was drafted ahead of him nineteen years ago is going to do what he did to that. Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback some years back. He's going to target them. He's going to score them in any. He's going to run down the field employment at him. Well, Mr. Robey Coleman will be fine. If he's simply guests the protection of the zebras that he got. No. Is there Superdome? If he could just interfere with every patriots receiver. He'll be fine. He can turn around and point to Tom Brady. But in the meantime talks, and I really don't Tony. We're into period. Now, we've got six days a nothing. There's nothing coming out of Atlanta. And you know, one of the teams New Orleans, I'm sorry as New England and nothing's gonna come out, and they win anything say boot because the coach will bench them forever. Even if it means not playing, that's right. That's right. This nothing is going to come out of here. That matters six days of nothingness in insane talk. But I I expect Tom Brady and the patriots win the game as ralian open has come and gone in the middle of the night. Naomi osaka. Became the first woman since Jennifer Capriati in two thousand one to back up her first major win with a second straight major win and Novak Djokovic shredded Rafael Nidal to when his fifteenth major and his third row as he now goes to Paris for the joker, slam wilpon, which is the bigger deal Asaka. Tony tennis needs some young stars in these the one I'm not seeing the missile Sokha can carry it. But you gotta start somewhere. I mean, it'd be great. If tee off oh in his twenty first year sort of breaks out. He's got a couple of more guests the return of so. Yeah. Okay..

"I know you try when you do in the game, you sell always guys are great. And they're not great. Nobody is tackling. Anybody just to yourself. Make it flag football. That's how would be peeling flag football. If you don't wanna have eleven guys out there. I watched Ryan Kerrigan did not want, and I don't blame him touch me, bro. Tackling anybody who's going to stand here it you could have fifty minutes to throw the pass if you'll lime play is actually fun to watch. It's to me. It's funny. But it's just it's it doesn't even resemble. What is that show football? They have to just don't. Yeah. It seems it still seems not only is it stupid. And we'll be on later on. I don't think he watched it. It was it appeared to be cold. And it was certainly very wet. It was awful. Nobody what What is. is? Understands a Redskin game. It's no longer. It's no longer in Hawaii. It's sort of. I don't know that at all to Nate's it is played in both places when he SPN has the game if in their contract, they have the game Orlando because it's I don't know that they go does it alternate. I don't know Hawaiian next to in Passaic. I think I don't know why would anybody watching or playing? Do I think they should just I think they do this make it bigger like do a skills competition and like what they used to do on. Why will the sports or whatever where they do like they they play to onto? I don't know if their contract with them, but they do do something else. Because football is not a sport that you cannot. You gotta pay on dry. Gotta play. Nobody wants to be hit. Nobody wants to tackle. Nobody wants to guard. Anybody this foolish? It's just a foolish game at this point where the ratings they have five and six million people watch that they actually watch it all the way through gamble gamble. Pretty heavily on that game mistake game on that the third thing that I did not watch this is because it was on in the middle of the night was the finals in the Australians men's and women's women's was late Saturday late Friday night early Saturday morning men's was late Saturday night early Sunday morning. The winners. Naomi osaka. Who may well be a star. Naomi Osaka is the first. Person. I know I remember this because we talked about it on Friday. She is the first woman tennis player since Jennifer Capriati in two thousand one and this includes the entire career of Serena Williams, she is the first woman to after winning her first major make the finals in her next major like even Serena didn't do that. And serene is the greatest so she may be a star. I don't know. See maybe she'd be committed the I've no idea. She's a great players. Yes. Novak Djokovic who I think is a poser and a fraud. I have no feel for the wherever he's a great player. What I don't like about him is when you he's a great player. I don't think he's a star. I think the Dolon Federer's stars. I think Jovic is Larry Holmes. I think he's a guy who's going to amass a lot of titles and really big numbers and is not going to win the hearts and minds of people. And plus it's the Australian Open which is the least of the four, but let me get to this. Of this. When you run through the doll like laxative. Okay. I mean, you are killing this guy. It is three sets in a role like three three two or something like that. Don't hit the ground and do those stupid right phony gestures of great relief and triumph you killing this guy deck like you've been there before I don't like him. I mean, it's pretty clear from what I'm saying. I don't like him. I think he's a great player. He may very well surpass. He's got fifteen now he may surpass Federer and the doll Nidal's got the French and sort of in his pocket, but when you win seven or stralia opens doing something, but it's it's like the PGA. It's not pay attention. I still don't understand how you didn't see the soccer matches. It started right around when you're waking up. It. I don't share your your hatred for Djokovic. I mean in an I obviously dislike many people and disliked in kind by many people, just breezy. He I mean, he's he's just one a the huge. That is a big accomplishment a major championship..

We're going to have the results of the Australian Open mayo mayo soccer Japan has won the women's title at the dragon open defeating Petra Kavita and rumor has is a big football game of some sort next week in the United States Howard, Bryant of ESPN, the magazine and ESPN dot com joins us Howard. Thanks so much for being with us. Good morning, Scott. What do you mean you need a spoiler alert. You didn't you were up at three thirty in the morning to watch the women's championship. I was up at four thirty. And you know, there are people who complain when we put the results of a sports event in you know, on the news time. Yeah. Exactly. Well, you know, it's news not an auto in any event. No naomi. Osaka has followed a victory in the US open with his grand slam title, make sure number one of the world right now, doesn't it? First. Asian woman to be named number one in the world ever an amazing follow up to winning her first major back in September at the US open over Serena Williams. I women since two thousand one Jennifer Capriati to win the next two major following her. I go consecutively an incredible match. It wasn't it wasn't. It wasn't easy for her. At all considering the fact that she was upset and serving five three. I'm sorry receiving five three for the match and ended up having three match points. Lost them all ended up losing four straight games. And she showed a lot of hard for a twenty one year old to to finish off the match the way she did. And to to really come back in the third set and claim this championship was remarkable. And and tougher pitcher Kavita as well. This was a match that I really had. No, he didn't want to see anybody lose coming back from the knife attack that the patriots suffered in checked in the Czech Republic in two thousand sixteen. She didn't think she was ever gonna play tennis again. And it was just an amazing match between two champagnes. We got a note to a particular significance in Japan. Naomi? Osaka has become a national symbol there. She has mixed racial background. That's. Her Haitian father, Leonard who we never see we hear of him. We know he exists, but he he never sits in her box. Because he is so nervous to watch the match to see his daughter play that he sort of Rome's the stadium. He's never on camera. But he's always with her. And it's a fantastic story. God blessed fantastic story considering that this is one of the things that you look at what tennis. They did. At twenty years old eighteen years old people have been talking about her being a great player. Now, she's really backed it up, and it's also in this this tournament as well that Serena Williams had a five one lead against Klickovic in the quarter-finals to have a rematch with Asaka and Serena ended up losing that matchy injured her ankle in lost the next six games and lost the last match. That's the beauty of tennis. It's the reason why I love tennis so much. It's the reason why I love baseball. You can't run out the clock in this sports. Got you gotta get that. You gotta you gotta win. The final point you have to get the final out. Otherwise things can happen. Let's turn a little bit of that football game. Just a week away. The Rams are back in L A again against the patriots with what seems like their annual beer innocent of the Super Bowl. A lot of people though, still aren't over that controversial, no call of passion, her farance by officials in the NFC championship game between the Rams and the saints. And then also the officiating between in the patriots game with the the phantom roughing the passer call against with Tom Brady in the chiefs patriots game. It's a really interesting thing sky because you want to look at football and say that the sport is obviously in trouble for all the problems that it has aesthetically. Of course, it has problems. You can't tell what a catches you arguing about the the rules and the referees getting involved, but at the same time when you look at the revenue when you look at the excitement when you look at the interest, it's hard to say that the sport has a problem. But at the same time how you look at a championship game every year. We have these questions of these controversies at some point, maybe. You're going to start reviewing even pass interference calls. I can't imagine more conferences during football game. Do love or hate the patriots. I'm from Boston. I can't answer that. Oh, you can't answer it, which suggests you don't have. Well, I gotta respect Tom Brady Bill Belichick in that dynasty headed back for their knives. Through phenomenal accomplishment with that team has done Howard. "Well, just when we thought we couldn't get a better guest than Goran Ivanisevic. Who do we find have brunch with in Melbourne, but Mary Carillo, Harry? Harry's. Oh, it's a joy. And we have so much to talk about we're coming towards the end of another Australian Open, but it has been I think an amazing tournament. What are you thinking? I've loved every every single day. There's been something. Nice to say visit as yeah. I mean, I mean for us the that. I mean, that's that's where we is bull cost is money, right? Telling the stories telling the new stories that people don't know about. And there've been a lot of those what's been your favorite. What do you walk away with? Well, it depends. What happens tomorrow? The women's final. I mean, I think. I think either way that's a that's one heck of a story. I hadn't realized how incredibly rare it is for first time slam winner to to win. The next lamb is never been done in the apron era in men's tennis. And the last time it was done in women's tennis two thousand one Jennifer Capriati it. Yeah. I mean, it's just not just doesn't happen. It's a long time between drinks. That's right. Yeah. Naomi oh going for the double major. Yeah. And she looks then he live visitors. It that's that's that's that's that's one of the biggest most overwhelmingly emotional comeback stories in sports short. And I just read this morning that she would be the oldest first time major winner. Twenty-eight Kerber was also that but she was a little older than than. Yeah. Not not not major number one. What the first time number one. Yeah. Kerber was twenty eight but she's a little bit older. How about that? That's a good one. If it's true. It's how how is visited the oldest anything? I know Coney was telling me yesterday that Petric of its repeal reminded me that she was one match away from willna, but one in twenty twelve when he exactly against Sharapova. Yes. And that's seven years. Yes. And five years since she won a title may not she's back in the hunt. It's an amazing source. She and which he's been through how about her press conference yesterday. When she when she was telling us that her doctor didn't even tell her. But in the second month, he was very worried that the that the scarred for very tight, and he wasn't sure the, you know, she'd be able to really come good. And I mean there was a chair, and she would never be able to play any kind of real tennis at all. She still has nine terrors. She's she. She still, you know, worries about her safety, and your she is about to walk on the stage with Mamiya Asaka. It's remarkable. It's great, and she so she has a sort of quiets unassuming strength, doesn't she SAPA? Yeah. You know, what I I've been listening to to the tennis podcast for the whole two weeks. And you keep talking about players that sort of disappoint in important ways. Not really like Griego, or and you know. There are players like or for me, like medicine keys. They have to grow fangs right? And I'm not an and you know, like someone like Serena someone like Rafa some like, I think cease about hasn't. He just couldn't show it against rougher last night. Cohe mean rhapsody has been silenced. But there are something. Like VERA, we were at the press conference and with Gregg man, he wasn't nearly as disappointed and angry and aggravated after losing so badly around. I can see the same Yvonne Lendl at that point of exactly I had my hand up and they switch to German. But that's what I wanted to ask him like at what point do you have a true autopsy of that match, and what will Yvonne say to you. And and and leave. Yeah. Jimmy needs fangs and you so then here's my question..

Kerber Naomi Goran Ivanisevic Yvonne Lendl Harry tennis Mary Carillo Jennifer Capriati Melbourne Sharapova VERA Jimmy Rafa Coney Gregg willna seven years five years two weeks
