Gavin Newsom to Ron DeSantis: 'Pack up & Wait a Few Years'

"A sound bite crossed my desk earlier today. That really got my attention. Gavin Newsom is the guy who I think is going to be the Democrat nominee for president next year. And he sat down and gave an interview with Jen Psaki circle back Psaki now has now she's a TV star on MSNBC. And she has a show called inside with Jen Psaki. And she landed an interview with Gavin Newsom. And Gavin Newsom had some advice for Florida governor Ron DeSantis. This advice really gets my attention. Check this out. So if you are not advising governor desantis, I know that. But what does this political path here should he be running away from criticizing Trump? Should he be speaking up for the rule of law? Well, he's going to get rolled by Trump. Trump's just going to roll him. Thumped. I honestly, if I were offering him political advice, I'd tell him to pack up and wait a few years. And actually do some of the hard work, which actually includes governing, not just identity and culture work. Actually go back and actually start to address and the insurance issues start to address some of the cost. Issues and particularly cost of housing. These are very familiar. I'm very humbled by all of this.

Jen Psaki: Joe Biden Is a 'Night Owl'

"Are we going to, are we going to rise to the occasion? Are we going to blow it? It's a good question. I don't know the answer to that. Biden runs again, that seems to be the best case scenario for us. I'm convinced he will not, I don't think he can. Jen Psaki yesterday said that Joe's a night owl. Yeah, sure he is. He drinks some warm milk at 7 o'clock and he's in bed lights out by 7 30. You ain't kidding anybody, Jen. He's a night owl. He's a night owl. That's why his announcement yesterday about the banking industry and the bailout at 9 a.m.. That was big for him because he's not normally up at 9 a.m.. Can you imagine saying that? But the president of the United States, he's a night owl night owl. So if he gives a speech at 9, must be a big deal. She said that. So good, good luck on her new MSNBC gig. She'll just fit in perfectly over there. She'll be a big hit on MSNBC.

Joe Biden Should Bring Back Jen Psaki for Karine Jean-Pierre

"Karine Jean Pierre again A human being who is uniquely untalented if this one it's amazing How few skills she has at this job They trot her out there again It's going on right now Right now she's being asked more questions about the biggest political scandal of our time The Biden classified documents on Ukraine as his son had a no show job in Ukraine and Biden was pushing for weapons to Ukraine Gosh that sounds bad And she is entirely incapable of thinking on her feet and answering a question Listen I'm not one to give Democrats advice because you're destroying the country I don't want to help you But I almost feel bad for her at this point Please go get Jen Psaki back She is one of the best liars in the business I mean Jim when you agree nearly unparalleled lying skills like we've never seen It is time for Jen Psaki to come back and start the line because she is hapless up there She's like I've got to be prudent We're not going to get ahead of the story There's a process that this story's escaped you Stop talking then Do you know there's precedent for you to not go out to the press podium if you have nothing to say The Trump team was smart about this I've used this example repeatedly They had Stephanie Grisham she was awful If you're asking who is that Exactly That's my point She was the press secretary between Sarah Sanders and Caylee I believe She was so bad at the job She never did a press conference Because the Trump team knew it was going to be politically damaging Why do you keep sending Korean John Pierre out there She is just so clearly untalented for this

Lord Conrad Black and Sebastian Discuss Former Press Sec. Jen Psaki

"You mentioned, I played you a cut from the current White House, press secretary. She was very, very angry today as Fauci gave his last speech from the podium before he retires. You said, who do you prefer more Jen Psaki or the current incumbent? Well, Jen Psaki was more competent. I mean, this was competent, frankly. But I find her rather an amiable personality where I found Jen Psaki really rather obnoxious. Well, let's talk about Kayleigh McEnany, which is the champion. I thought I thought she was great. Let's talk about the predecessor. Let's talk about Jen Psaki because she's in the news. This is from Fox News dot com. Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Monday that there wasn't a lot Democrats could have done to change the inflation reality. A federal judge ruled Monday that the former White House press secretary must comply with the subpoena and offer a deposition in a lawsuit that claims the Biden administration colluded with big tech to sense a speech. Now, her response and I must read it to you. This is directly from Jen Psaki to the judge, lord black. Sitting for a deposition would be extremely burdensome for me. I understand that I would need to devote several days to preparing for the deposition, as well as attending the deposition itself. And that would be highly disruptive to both my work and my family. My response on social media or black is, well, that's a great excuse that president Trump can use now that there's a special counsel coming off to him. Your response. That's just nonsense. But self indulgence self serving pompous statements. I mean, she knew when she was took that job on that there was going to be a good deal of controversy because her party. And so addicted to stirring up spurious litigation against its opponents, she might reasonably assume that some of it would come back at them. And as press secretary, she might have to testify and give evidence. And the president current president did her the honor of conferring that important position on her. And she had to know that something like that went with the therapy. So what did she talking about? I

Why Tell the Lie When the Truth Works Better?

"Brings me now to Joe Biden. This brings me now to the president himself when I look back over the first 20 months. I'm going to say this in a way that may surprise some of you. It's just an honest statement. Nothing legislatively, which has been very little. I mean, there have been four or 5 big things that COVID relief package infrastructure Bill, the build back mansion Bill or what they call the inflation reduction, which has no hope of reducing inflation. And then they've passed there so you are they pass there. But that's about it, as far as big plans here. The rest of it is not doing anything on, that they said, you know, in past own guns, a little bit on guns, they did a little bit there. But immigration, other things just not there. He's running by executive order, you know, destroying our energy independence, other things. But none of that surprised me. What has surprised me and whether it was Jen Psaki, who was always circling back, or whether Jean Pierre, who is just flat out seemingly over her head. I mean, and nothing personal, but when you don't even answer questions right from reading in a book and you can't come up with answers. And when you do come up with answers, it's not honest with the reporters asking you're starting to see the problem. Let's go back and one thing though that I have seen this is how they've handled these issues. Why is it so hard seemingly for the Biden administration to tell a lie to tell the truth? Instead, they choose to tell a lie or obfuscate a problem instead of just coming clean when probably coming clean would just be the honest answer. And people probably would respond better to an honest answer. Now, would partisan Republicans respond to it better? No, they're going to use it and you understand that. But at the end of the day, I still believe that there's a large part of the American public. This still look for honesty in their honest answers, whether it's a good news or bad news situation, so that they can internally say, okay, here's where I'm at in this where I need to go. This

"It's about not only declining efficacy of the mRNA vaccines for COVID but you had a stunning little tidbit You had charts and everything in the peace and conservative review That the vaccine in some cases or maybe some evidence that it's actually wiping out natural immunity Now Dan that's a whole different level of inefficacy We're talking about here Sure so I guess my listeners by now are probably familiar with pax lovid the size of drug that seems to cause a rebound So the more you take it the more you get the rebound the more you have to take it again It's a brilliant model Now has everyone has anyone wondered why it is that we're two and a half years into this and it's still going on I mean no one thought it would go on that long the Spanish flu didn't go on that long And what we started to notice I mean you remember some very famous people Jen Psaki and others got COVID twice even after getting the shots Now originally it was very clear the shots weren't working So we thought all right well everyone's gonna get it but by hooker by curriculum get your immunity and then it will be over with But the problem is it appears now and by the way this was a study published in the weekly Journal of Medicine So they wanted to say hey buddy you keep you keep running the risk of getting it so you have to get more boosters That was their conclusion But if you look at the charts what they were showing is that it actually erased you natural immunity

"Jonah wrote this piece that there's this difference right He compared the cigarette the war on the war on cigarettes to the liberal war on guns and how liberals just don't understand us how in other words when it came to something nonpartisan like stopping smoking you know it generally worked because liberals and conservatives both kind of agreed that this was a good thing We don't want people to smoke And we knew how to talk to people We understood how to talk to our moms I came home She stopped smoking it's really bad for your lungs But Jonah's premise sorry for the long winded question but was that that's not what liberals do to us because they think we're bad people with ideas not people with bad ideas they make no attempt to understand us And that's why there's this communications disconnect in the country today Your general thoughts on that Yeah I think that's a 100% correct I mean this administration in particular might be the most out of touch with the American people in the way that they just talk about real issues that people have to face It's so condescending and clearly is coming from people who have never had to face real struggles There was Jen Psaki talking about the tragedy of the treadmill that's delayed when people have legitimate their ability to get groceries or baby formula or any other number of necessities And then you had Pete Buttigieg and Jennifer Granholm telling people to just go buy a $50,000 electric vehicle just so that they wouldn't have to worry about gas prices right So constantly from the Democratic Party and particularly the Biden administration It's clear that these people live in a different universe than most of the country and make absolutely no attempt to whatsoever to try to understand their constituents or at least be sympathetic to their concerns

How Much Trouble Is Joe Biden In? Chris Kohls Weighs In

"You may not have worked in government, but you know what dang lot about communication and how to effectively communicate. It looks as if anybody in any kind of position of communications in The White House is jumping the ship from Kamala's speechwriter to Jen Psaki. Jen Psaki seems like such old history. It doesn't it? If I say gen so it feels like years ago that she was who is that? Yeah, who is that? What is going on as a professional communicator? And supplier of content, do you think they're just out of steam? Is it just changing of the God? How much trouble is bow jaiden in? No, jud. Yeah. When Korean John Pierre took the job, it was a bit shocking. I don't know if you remember the first month that she was there. Everybody just thought, what is going on? How can they have somebody who can't read? I mean, she was literally like, anytime anybody asks her a question, she'd flip to the page. Well, one second I just have to find my okay talking points. I will read them for you, and she would read them verbatim, whatever was written down for her. And she had trouble reading it. She can't actually read the notes, Chris. It's incredible to this day she can't read what's in the binder. I understand, look, look, guys, if you're a trucker, you work in construction, you don't have to read out loud as your job, that's not part of your job, okay? If you're not good at that, don't get a job in communication. Korean Jean Pierre goes into a job where, as press secretary, where she needs to read off her talking points and she can not. She's like a second grader learning to read out loud in front of the class and she's obviously like completely incompetent. I think has a lot to do with the diversity hire problem. On the left, there is this virtue signaling thing where they say, oh, you know, we can't have white men, right? We can't have men generally. We have to have women and preferably women of color and preferably preferably women of color who are lesbians and immigrants and all this kind of crap, you know, they got like this a couple of trans dudes in there. There's just peppering their whole administration with all of these diversity hires. And of course everything's going to fall apart. Of course

Why Is the Media Ignoring the Attempted Assassination of Kavanaugh?

"This is Kevin from Rhode Island, Charlie. What do you make of the assassination attempt against Brett Kavanaugh? Why is the media ignoring this? Or they're ignoring it because that helpful. To mention it, the fact that there was a legit assassination attempt against Brett Kavanaugh and his family. Now we still don't know how the U.S. Marshals knew this person was going to drive up to Brett Kavanaugh's home. I would imagine through cell phone surveillance and all of that. That would be an interesting thing to find out and actually be the best case for the Patriot Act that I've heard in quite some time because I haven't heard a good one in a long time because the Patriot Act and all this stuff seems to just be abused and spying on moms and dads that show up at school board meetings. But this has been bubbling up for quite some time. Remember back in May, Jen Psaki said that protests have been peaceful today, and we certainly continue to encourage that outside of judges homes, even though that is a federal crime to go try to influence a Supreme Court opinion outside of a Supreme Court Justice home. Do you think of a bunch of maga hat wearing Trump supporters showed up at katangi Brown Jackson's home? Do you think they would be arrested? Play cut 62. Know that there's an outrage right now, I guess, about protests that have been peaceful to date. And we certainly continue to encourage that outside of judges homes, and that's the president's position. They continue to encourage it outside of judges homes. And that is the president's position. Thankfully, the U.S. Marshals were there to intercept this soon to be lunatic. The soon to be murderer, he had rope, he had knives, he had a gun,

Dems Are Rewriting History as if They Never Called for SCOTUS Protests

"Yeah and meanwhile the Democrats are trying to make it out that conservatives and Republicans and Trump supporters are the purveyors of political violence by hosting this January 6th symposium as it were They're having these prime time televised hearings a year and a half after the vast majority of people trespassed onto a government building that their taxpayer dollars pay for but that's another discussion But they're having these televised hearings to try to continue this narrative that Republicans are actually the violent ones as one of their supporters goes and tries to subvert the justice system by assassinating a Supreme Court Justice And was actually egged on by the Biden administration Jen Psaki when she was first asked about these protests when we already knew that they were illegal insisted that they were peaceful and said the president certainly encourages us as a quote certainly encourages people to show up outside of the justices home And it wasn't until after pro life center started being firebombed masses were being interrupted at Catholic churches that she changed her tune a little bit and said we certainly condemn anything that's illegal or could be perceived as violent et cetera et cetera Now you have Andrew Bates the deputy press secretary lying and saying that Jen Psaki never encouraged people to show up at the house Like they're rewriting history now It's like the ministry of truth is not just targeting people who speak truth but they're also manipulating it on their own end as well

Just When You Think It Couldn't Get Worse Than Jen Psaki...

"We have a new press secretary at The White House. How did she perform? Well, let's have a look if she knows about economics. The very basics about economics play cuts. How does raising taxes on corporations lower the cost of gas because we use car, the cost of food for every day, Americans? So look, I think we encourage those who have done very well. Especially those who care about climate change to support a fair tax code that doesn't change. It doesn't charge manufacturers workers, cops, builders, a higher percentage of their earnings, that the most fortunate people in our nation and not let that stand in the way of reducing energy costs and fighting this existential problem if you think about that as an example. And to support basic collective bargaining rights as well. That's also important. But look, by not without tax code, which is what I'm talking about, then manufacturing workers cops. It's not fair for them to have to pay higher taxes than the folks that are not paying taxes at all. They say takes a big man to admit his mistakes. I'm going to do it right now. Joe Manchin Will Oppose Bill That Would Codify Roe v. Wade

"Mean, let me add just one other breaking news from today. Joe Manchin was pressed very hard yesterday on whether or not he would support the what they're calling the codification of roe V wade into federal law. It's this accessibility to abortion act or whatever it's called. And he had to call a press conference and come out and say, guys, this is not the codification of roe V wade. This is an expansion of abortion, roe V wade said you had a federal right to abortion. What this law wants to do is wipe out 500 state and local laws nationwide to basically force abortion availability via taxpayer dollars into every corner of the world that it's not currently at. And to your point, it's a zero sum game. If you give them a half an inch, they will take 6000 miles. And that's why we can't, we can't just sit back and say, it's okay for them to simply state their disagreement. No, every time that Jen Psaki has said stuff crazy in recent weeks from the press room, we've got to denounce it. We've got to call attention to it. We've got to say that is not true. We've got to force facts back into the conversation because these people do not have nerve endings that receive the normal receptor messages as to, oh, I shouldn't say that. It's blatantly not true. Well, they are, we're in a new world. And that's why people like Tim Keller and others who they're good people. But what they said 20 years ago, 15 years ago, the reason it no longer applies is because the world has changed and they refuse to see how dramatically things have changed so that they're anodyne platitudes, they no longer hold.

"Drilling the argument spilled over into The White House briefing room today With press secretary Jen Psaki an interesting exchange here with the Fox News reporter Peter doocy Remembering that the president referred to 9000 unused drilling permits said they could get to this tomorrow Here's Jen Psaki First of all nearly 60% of least acres remain non producing That's a lot In the range of 20 million acres So there are 9000 unused approved permits to drill in They should not require that should not require us inviting them to do that They should do that themselves But the additional permits so would the president one additional permits that they need They have the leases are there the permits are there I don't think they need an embroidered invitation to drill They are oil companies What is happening What is happening The permits have been granted Peter What is happening here is that we are seeing these are private sector companies We recognize that Many of them are making record profits We see that That is all publicly available data They have pressure to return cash to investors and their shareholders What we're saying right now is there is a war where asking them to go use the approved permits use the unused space and go get more supply out of the grounds in our own country Okay there's Jen Psaki in the briefing room today now you've heard both sides of this You heard from The White House you heard from the Republican senator from Louisiana We wanted to talk with somebody who's been researching this independently Steve Ellis The president of the group taxpayers for common sense and independent nonpartisan voice as they say for taxpayers His take on this from his perspective It goes beyond leases and permits and are all of those going to be good wells or not And the fact of the matter is that they are squatting on a lot of projects particularly onshore that you can't make them drill You can't make them drill but if you're the administration saying that they can drill any time they want they can start tomorrow Is that an honest statement.

vaccinated last saw Biden on Tuesday and skipped the trip to Europe to attend G 20 and cop 26 talks saki is among the highest profile figures in the Biden administration to test positive Biden tested negative on Saturday And vacs has been chosen as the word of the year by the Oxford English dictionary Words related to vaccines have spiked in frequency in 2021 due to COVID with double axed unvaccinated anti vaxxer all seeing a surge in use if you're wondering both facts with one X and two are accepted spellings But one X is more common Global news 24 hours a day on air and on Bloomberg quick take powered by more than 2700 journalists and analysts in more than a 120 countries I'm Hannah George This is Bloomberg Caroline Oh I like that a little tidbit about how to spell a vaccine Right let's go on to talk about some of the data this morning China's economy showing signs of further weakness in October as power shortages and certain commodity prices weighed on manufacturing Now while the kaisin reading suggested a pickup last month our colleagues at Bloomberg economics say that actually the official gauge is a more accurate reflection of reality So let's get more on this for our chief Asia economics correspondent Cohen and a good to have you on the program How bad is this slow down then Well good morning Caroline It is the second month of contraction for the official PMI reading And it does indicate that the economy now is under some pressure A couple of things are happening at the same time There is an energy crunch whereby manufacturers have been impacted by power outages at their plants Of course on the other side they continue to be squeezed by this global supply chain crunch and in particular that means very high cost of raw materials for these companies And of course very high transportation costs And then of course a kind of a third pillar to it all is the ongoing disruption from the very aggressive policy China has in controlling COVID which has led to disruption that port manufacturing So to your point I mean it is a material slowdown in the manufacturing sector but we should say exports are holding up very strongly at the same time So it's kind of a message of weakness but a global demand for Chinese goods still remains firm Okay and from that global perspective what about inflation from China being exported around the world Well this is a big question Caroline It's a tough one to answer actually But there's no doubt on the one hand the Chinese producers are facing their highest producer costs since the early 1990s economists are divided over how much of that does travel globally because we've got lots of variables that play the exchange rate is a factor for example and of course you have to consider what makes up CPI baskets as well in the first instance but nonetheless though at the same time there is a view that the breadth of price increases for Chinese factories has been to such an extent that the RNA are having to pass on their cost to overseas customers That is happening Certainly anecdotally when we speak to manufacturers and I've been speaking to manufacturers and throughout the year they do all say that they are passing on their costs The question then becomes Carlin does the buyer in Europe at a buyer in USA pass on those prices to the end consumer underground too But at the very least you would have to say China's PPI is not taking pressure off the global inflation story It is at the very least adding pressure at least at the margins Yeah okay interesting And then in terms of the broader context in Southeast Asia there is interesting I was really on the terminal factories in the rest of Southeast Asia perhaps doing a little better than in China Absolutely Carolina is a good point What's going on there though is a slightly different dynamic basically there was a very very bad COVID outbreak over summer months and into August in Southeast Asia and big manufacturing centers were effectively locked down and shut down So in particular Vietnam was impacted and you know you're talking about factories there for some of the world's biggest brands They literally were out of production as workers had to stay at home for their own safety now That's kind of being rebooted at the moment Those factors are coming back online not just Vietnam broadly across Southeast Asia as we shifted this kind of opening up living with COVID salt strategy that's happening out here now And that's why the PMI is really got that lift There's a sense that the demand is still there so the manufacturing story across Asia should continue to hold up There was one little wrinkle though of softness that might come today Carolina which was South Korea's export numbers They're all seen in the bellwether for where things are going And it was a little bit of a they came in a little bit slower than expected in terms of export growth So people are saying perhaps the export story might start fade over coming months Demand is robust now It's the holiday time of year but that story might start to fade in early next year Okay and a really interesting thanks so much for that explanation that is our chief Asia economics correspondent across of course all of the data out of Asia force including from China It's a really good to speak to you this morning Right let's also tell you what's coming up on the program And we're going to bring things a bit closer to home Straight ahead a closer look at the UK's budget.

"I'm on your side. And he's there to fight for them and that appeal was incredible word and especially in the context of their. Which is mitt romney. He's with the guys who fucked up the economy and then got rich on the solution. Why you all got left behind. And what democrats those cold. All politics is identity. Politics policy based appeals specially today. Yeah do you always have been. I think always always happen. It's just we funneled that terminology into race in gender and sexuality. Beth not really what it is right in his s. reclined podcast but in our clients book why polarize he talks about. How those buzzfeed quizzes. That are like thirty seven as your from ohio. We're thirty seven ways. You went to high school in the mid nineties. Those were the most popular things on the internet. Because we are looking for where we fit in this very crazy world and politics is that it's not just where your farmer who you are the color of your skin or anything else it like you. Identity based appeals matter in are important and just think about the this is goes to the popular verse unpopular sort of thing is if republicans are making a cultural grievance identity appeal and we're making policy based appeal. We're gonna loose. The problems are saying you see those people over there. Immigrants elitist people in washington hollywood types. Gay people transpeople. They are changing america. And that change is going to hurt you. we're gonna save your way of life democrats alike. We're going to mail you a three hundred dollar check once a month you in will and you know this is why in the biden campaign. You saw them do this. In the debate they revived at recently. That the fight over bill back better and a lot of these proposals is scranton versus par. Gaffe right this is this. It was more of an identity based appeal that joe biden is the working class guy from scranton and donald trump is the rich asshole from park avenue trump over the years successfully Even though he's a rich asshole Made himself seem like some fucking working class populist which was quite a feat. But you saw the biden's attempt to do that was trying to to change that into into heaven. Identity based appealed. It wasn't just about economic policy. Think there was something else to obama in two thousand twelve. That as rene were tweeting about about this and ezra was tweeting. I think the truly underplayed part of obama's politics is his level of rhetorical patriotism in his genius at wrapping his candidacy. In a highly pro-american story. I think that more than moderation is what liberals and leftist underestimate in his success. I completely agree with this as someone who helped him. Write a lot of these speeches I thought his rhetorical patriotism was also was also more honest about america's faults than a lot of politicians are which is why it worked for both folks on the left. An folks in the center center right maybe And then you know as you pointed out that the right correctly understood that obama's doing something very dangerous for them constructing a patriotic story identity in which the real americans are the ones who recognize in work to overcome our flaws. That is what. I have been looking for and democratic candidates since then is who can tell that kind of story i think that with his message about the soul of america being at stake like biden did get close to that. I also think for obama. That message was wrapped up in his identity as a Biracial guy with the middle name hussein. Who came from the south side of chicago but You know grew up for time in indonesia and then hawaii and we had foot and many different worlds his identity and the story he told at the two thousand four convention about himself and his family were part of his message and part of his appeal. And i say that because and saw a man to lytton made this point during this debate is that you cannot always separate message from the messenger. Thank you can't separate it right you. You can't no you can't you. Can't separate the message from the messenger and that part of the store you tell on the identity you convey has to do with who you are not just what you say. And that's something that we need to keep in mind with candidates as well i think in terms of like other other things strategist and organizers can take away from this debate do you have any other last Less takeaways for folks. Just i think we have to think about. We have to understand why the republican message has been so powerful in this media environment and understand the all of the incentives to ensure that identity based cultural appeals travel so far in this media environment and think about how we take our message and our agenda and package it in a that can actually move in this media environment because we should you know your point about. Ads is really important. Like add certainly matter we. There's we need to spend more money as a party in more creative ways to get our message front of voters but donald trump almost one in the middle of a pandemic that he absolutely screwed up against a great can't ever any better campaign and joe biden had tons more money. that's because republicans dominated the organic media. Space ride the clinical to earn face. We're going to have to figure out to make our message trouble that way. Because our policy based message aimed breakthrough like we've seen in the polls that show the only thing people know about biden's agenda is the price tag and that's sub optimal and i will say that you know even though i used to write speeches for a living. I'm not someone who thinks that like a good message can fix everything but one of the only things a campaign can control is what they say with the candidate says. What the field organizers say. What the volunteer. Say what the ads say like. You can't control what your opponent says. You can't control what the activists in your party. You're saying you can't control what the press saying. You can only control what you say. And i do think that's why it's it's really important to come up with a message. That's appealing i. Also thank look the idea that we can afford to keep losing non college educated voters of all races because there's some bigger pool of college educated voters just waiting for us to knock on their doors is a fallacy and i do think that like sometimes and and by the way that is back to the diagnosis that the diagnosis part most people agree with and i think sometimes we lull ourselves into a complacency that like oh there are a whole bunch of progress with just like us out there and they're just not voting that often and if we just go knock on their door and tell them our message. They're going to come vote because the truth is like even mobilizing younger more diverse. People who don't usually vote requires them requires persuading them to understand that casting. A ballot is worth it and that takes work and i don't think that we do the work of persuasion. Well enough like a not has said this on our podgy said this many times. The job of a good message isn't to say what's popular but to make popular what needs to be said. And i don't think that we've thought enough about the work of making popular. What needs to be set. Because i think we are in a lot twitter echo chambers and sometimes we just say what we believe and say what we think is right and it is the right thing to believe but we have to figure out how to say it in a way. That is appealing to the most voters. Possible an in haney lopez had a great point on this as he was reading about this again in haney lopez worked with a not worked with heather mcghee all of them on the race class narrative that we've talked about a lot on this pod a lot on the wilderness he said or he wrote democratic messages alienate voters when they are predicated on a sense of identity that voters do not share for instance define the police and abolished. Ice are deeply connected to a story of the police and ice white supremacist institutions that press communities of color in turn. This story depicts the country as locked into a historic conflict between white people and people of color it thus asks white voters to see themselves as members of an oppressive group. They must help to disempower in asks..

"Ask you all. I ask you all to rise and join us as mark. Lloyd leads us in the pledge. Cool really cool. It's an a jet. Another president has talked a lot about. The challenges are democracy. I just curious sort of what. His reaction is. Some of these things that are happening out there. They're threats that democracy and whether we're sort of that's something you expect to have him talk about more. Obviously as you get through the many sugar honey. Iced tea sandwiches on the current menu. But that's for my mother-in-law it's it's very premature the for household right. Now bring it's lengthy but you can feel free to steal it Yes i mean. Look i think what one thing. Yes people will hear the president talk about this more and i think just because we have a lock going on in the agenda right. Now that's consuming a lot of the oxygen. It shouldn't lesson Anyone's understanding of the focus on some of these key pieces. I mean look at the january. Six commission and the work that they're doing And as we approached that not only has the president spoken out about how this is the darkest democracy but as we've considered and will consider them case by case we've not granted executive privilege to The request from the trump administration On documents or on individuals to date will keep considering because we need to get to the bottom of what happened that day. we can't stanford The virginia race is really. I'm virginia resident. So this is a little custom here. It's a little scary As a as a as a progressive woman in the suburbs. We need to pay attention to what's going on here because this could really change things for us And what is happening a little bit or visit. I guess my assessment is. We're kind of normalizing people who were not trump but are republicans as if they're fine and and some we can work with certain things that is part of the unifying message there are roads are not a partisan issue right on even child. Universal childcare is not a partisan issue clean drinking water but ultimately when you have people who are denying climate change exists not allowing women to make choices about their own healthcare. That's not moderate that is not normal and that should not be normalized. And so some of it. I think is Needing to identify meeting to make clear that being unified does not mean every republican in congress is agreeing with us on everything. They're not there are going to be things we can work with some republicans on to move them for by necessity. We have to do that to get some things passed but it also means calling out when things are are not a mainstream are not even moderates and are not and shouldn't be considered that way and there's a lot of things iphones in that category that kind of wash through and they really shouldn't. Is the president. Going to go back to virginia to campaign with terry mcauliffe again before the race. I suspect you well. All right I was just wondering has working in. The white house started to feel a little more normal than when you guys i got there. Delta kept it pretty weird. It's still a little weird. I mean i Because we do all of our not all but we still do a lot of meetings in our offices on zoom and so what's missing Which is just sad. Is that moment where you're in the where you're in a meeting. And their sports people in there and you say oh look. There's the science advisor. I'm going to go. Ask him about lars. I don't know there's all these experts in here and you just run into them in meetings. Sometimes you didn't even realize you're at a follow up question and that doesn't exist. And so i have a bit of a sadness for this amazing group of people who were a part of the press team who haven't experienced that right where you're just in and out of these meetings and you look over and you're like wow. There's a world renowned economist. I we're all nerdy here right so l think this is cool. You know. that's a cool fare rates call. There's there's gina mccarthy you know they're susan rice and that doesn't exist as much and so and i think that's part of the white house experience so a lot of people i mean you guys know this because you've been in here you know. I would be able to do my job if i didn't have the team. That works for me right. And they they are embedded with these policy folks but they don't get to experience things in the same way. There's no south lawn events. There's no events in the east room with right now. The side benefit. There's one benefit is. I hate heels. Look really hate shoes. And i was telling you guys when i came. I were sneakers. Basically all dan right desk. And i got up to go check on something like a nut. Somebody else's office. And i was wearing a black shoe and Cream-colored shoe in kenya delegation is here and they kind of looked at me. Oddly so there are things like you know you. Can you can get some things done later office. But there isn't elements of it. That's missing that makes me a little sad for the people who haven't experienced working here before you're not sitting at my desk all day in a tie every single moment would be. That was the only upside surveys there. Joe biden. that's that's change. You can believe in origin. I did something that. I didn't even do when i worked in the white house which was in preparation this interview. I watched the briefing yesterday. So i just have a very so many supply chain questions. I felt so bad for you. I was like leave her alone. Now for the supply chain christian. She this question john because jen important issue important issue. I'm i'm deeply. President biden is dealing with a delightful set of challenges right now a pandemic and economy that hasn't fully recovered from the pandemic an ongoing assault on democracy by the other major political party in two extremely annoying democratic senators who continued stand in the way of his agenda passing congress here to talk with us. About how much fun. She's having answering only the most thoughtful questions from reporters about all of this every day of the week. White house press secretary. Jen psaki jen. Welcome back here. Thanks for having me. So i know we've been friends for a long time but i have to be a serious journalist right now and ask you pretty hard hitting questions. About which tweets ron clean has been liking that. What is it like to have a political reporter whose entire beat is a runs. Tweet likes mysterious. I mean there's a few things going on in the world so you'd have to find yourself kind of giving the context of the tweet that was re tweeted and what the May or may not mean. Sometimes what we're doing here sometimes what we're doing here. So yes it's quality it's quality journalism jets so the three of us were all at the white house together through the two thousand financial crisis tea party protests twenty ten midterms government shutdown debt ceiling crisis. How does what you guys are dealing with right now. Compared to all those other Shit sandwiches that we had to eat. Well i wish i could Sugar honey iced. I'm going to say as a government official these days Sugar episodes you know. I just have to keep a pg pg so look. I mean i think having been here before And a lot of us have helps because you having lived through this some of these journeys before especially in the legislative fronts. Means that you don't really freak out right And none of us are freaking out here and you guys remember and lived through and hopefully don't have ptsd but The affordable care act journey and battle and the battle to get dodd-frank passed and all of these pieces that had so many ups and downs. And we were never hiding under our desks or laying under a desk in the fetal position. We're not now but yeah. Look i mean we always knew that at this point and the administration it would be hard and it is hard because there are things we control their things. We don't control getting legislation done. Take some time it turns out. Democracy means people have a lot of opinions and different points of view and they're going to argue them invoice them. That's what's happening now. Jan one of the things you have to deal with every day is sort of a lemming like hurting towards particular narrative phrase earlier which seems maybe like a hundred years ago you. The narrative was joe biden is the next fdr and lbj all wrapped into one passing everything. Everything's great and then for the last few months it's been the exact opposite of that denson. Disarray are coming off the bus etc. What is what should they actual. What is the actual correct narrative about. Where you guys are the presidency right now. Well since you asked me. I mean a lot of that is around. What is proposed legislatively right so having these big bold proposals the bill. Back better agenda. These huge packages And there's no question that the fact that this has become a focus around numbers has not been helpful are. We can't entirely control that we have. Is they wanna talk about the substantive pieces but right now i mean the thing. That's challenging with the with the daily lemmings as you said about the about. The line of questioning is that it's not really a cut if it's a package that doesn't exist right. I mean essentially if you don't get a package passed or there isn't enough support in congress to pass a three point five trillion dollar package. You know the alternative is not something bigger. It's it's nothing right so are right now. We're thinks it or we're trying to piece together. What we still think is going to be a hugely historic package. That's going to do a lot of really really good things that haven't been done in the past including making universal pre-k a reality something that we know. Statistically will help more people go to college you know investing in climate change. Something that we know is long overdue and the us is one of the worst in the world making college reality for people investing in paid leave. So sometimes we get a little short handing refocus on the the process. The legislative process hugely important. I guess reporters to ask about it but we miss the point right and the point right now is. We're trying to put together a historic package. That will be bigger investments in a lot of these key things. Climate universal pre-k paid leave Making clean water reality than ever happened in the past and we get mired in. Is it three point. Two is a two point seven. What did senator manchin half for lunch. I mean Which were kind of missing the point so you know. That's the reality of what we're trying to do now. We think we're going to get there But it's hard to break through the noise of the game of where the numbers are and what the emotions are of different numbers of congress. I will not ask you. What dimension had for lunch. If it's if it's something that's gonna lead sort of package passing. I will get that lunch whatever you want. I know you can't like divulge almost you take you almost. No one's listening to you. Guys right nonstop man. I heard you on pods team american. That happens all the time. There's reports that mansion in cinema themselves are disagreeing with each other so much that it's nearly impossible to square the circle right. There's like people close to the white house saying this. Is there any truth to that or are you more optimistic than these reports. Yeah don't feel that bad everyone. Here's the thing. People negotiate a lot in public this Privately of course but alive public and sometimes that's their job to do that. People want more of something they want something to be smaller because they wanna to go run for office and say i'm very fiscally conservative. Or i want more and i fought for more years of a program that's democracy working Ultimately when it comes down to it no bill is perfect. It's not going to be everything. That joe biden wants. Soccer be everything. Joe mansion wants or shearson cinema wants or or a formal giant paul or any member of congress..

"jen psaki" Discussed on The News & Why It Matters

"Of course a lack of supply. So why them to. Those states only never our role as the as the government overseeing the entire country is to be equitable in how we distribute were not going to give a greater percentage to florida over oklahoma. Nor do i think. Are you suggesting that we have to move on okay Notice her aversion to the word. Facts yes you're going to point out. I yeah i and of course also a couple times. She used the term equitable right. That is the that is the term that they keep using of vitamin station keeps using. I think thinking that the general public will just hear that and think that it is the same as equal. It is not of course. But they said we're not going to give a greater percentage to florida over oklahoma well if florida has a greater percentage of cases it right. I didn't like there are certain factors. You have to consider when you're dealing with a virus that people are getting author than what we have to send the same amount to each state if once eight is hardest hit and they just so happened to be a state that voted against me and also a state that we claim or refusing the vaccine. Oh well sorry if you die. Not really spoiler. It's not about the virus at all. It's entirely political. And they'll gas let you into thinking that you're the one making it political when the government is literally favoring states over other states based on how they loaded. Yeah i know. I love that point because it really. The gas lighting is at an all time high especially when they're talking about people making political like i've never once said i'm not going to take a vaccine because i don't even understand how you get to making the vaccine political right like like trump trump trump presidency brought us vaccine if we if we were making a political and it was all about trump. I'd be like please inject this into my arm. Because it stands for president trump so much wrong political was so much wrong with it was she said i almost because she's first of all she operated among this moron ideas of vaccinated people couldn't spray it this way. Look the which we already know factually. She's talked about facts. Ironically that is not factual in terms of what it is she said. And that's what this whole antibody deal is about. It's about there being an alternative to that jab in the first place you know. Maybe it's a case of people getting sick and then trying to treat it so this is more so what. We're looking more as a form of therapeutic. But then i think about the vaccine it access. Same damn way brian. You know because it doesn't prevent you from getting it. We know that it doesn't Will they changed. What vaccine actually is now. It doesn't necessarily make you immune anymore but traditionally that's what we thought of it as and that's not what this is. But i particularly took issue with. I always have to make about decentralisation. She said she would out on that limb and this is people should see the problem and she said this is our she said. This is our over city overseeing all this. That's the fundamental problem. I was reading this morning. Descent is saying all right. screw it. i'm just going to start trying to go directly to the manufacturers to make sure i get all of this if they're gonna sort of brought on me see i've lived that we saw jesse kelly tweet about this response to the sarah silver situation. I love when stuff like this happens. I hate that it sucks in the way they did do us because well you're trying really prevent treatment from other people that may may want it however people are starting to realize the fundamental problem in the middleman at the federal government plays ass. How unnecessary that. They actually are. They like unnecessary. Unfortunately the indoctrination work the propaganda work. Well a lot of people can conflate federal government to country or the culture that the country supposedly represents when it can be anything. Further from the truth is exactly what jen psaki says as moronic as a may be damn vida population she says about what's accurate equitable and all sorts of my question is what the hell is. Why do they get to dictate. How much if. that's indeed. What they need. How much florida can bring in. The texas world can't can bring in in terms of this sort of treatment. There's a fundamental problem with that but that's really extending to a lot of other things cova just showed everybody the problem ears and some people are conceding. Definitely have to what happened with cowboy. Nfl rico going to be starting to consider this as a viable alternative. So i think they got a couple of years and then i have everybody on this. Show saying the federal government. We need to succeed. Or whatever decentralisation. I'm looking forward to that. So eric brings up a great point and he also was speaking on california the recall election. I know you are now a proud resident of a texas. It was the best decision in my life to context this and unfortunately the recall was on my birthday. The fourteenth and it didn't happen doesn't affect me anymore But yeah i think honestly people are having more conversations about national divorce. She saw sarah silverman doing it to come out of her mouth. Who's like okay. Let's see where this goes. I know and it does feel like we're living in two different countries as someone who was born and raised in california and then moved to la from northern california was more It feels like a different country here. I catch myself reaching mass. That isn't there. I catch myself like in my allowed to do this and have people saying because of a question. Are you allowed to do this. Insert whatever this you want it. It is like a different country. It it is funny because we have people. Come here. i remember Dave rubin maybe not the last time he was here by the time before last and he was like. It's just feels really weird. We're all sitting at a table together. We're not masked up like when you are in that for so long. It's to me dummy to us. We've been living here the whole time. So i like life. Hasn't been that different. Even i wasn't wearing a mask. I never got told to leave or told off or anything like that so to me it was like. Wow yeah our people in other sting on and other countries and other state just a little flat away. Yeah i mean blue states california in particular and give you stockholm syndrome. Because for the first week. I was here in texas happy. I was like what is all this freedom have to deal with like things are so different here and now i'm more comfortable. And unlike how was unhappy at all when i got here but california will literally convince you have to be there mutter how bad it is so with all worthy mandates the breaking point for you what what was the tipping point. Yeah i mean right before. I moved here one of my friends a birthday party at a bar and i couldn't go because they were acquiring back scenes and anti vaccine. It's so sick that people will call you back over simply being slightly president. Went flashback to six months ago. Everyone the other side was saying they would not take it if trump brought it to them and you know so so yeah it's just the feeling of the government releasing things that you're not allowed to walk your dog outside and often without a mask rather how anti inside is because we know. Kobe can't really spread outside. So we don't need to wear a mask but but it's it feels like people in california and i was just talking about this..

That just happened to be red states. Just happen to incident. Yes just crazy coincidence right. Just the southern states. Florida georgia alabama which is like one of the hardest hit states right now with cova d- Texas all of these states just happen to be red states just happened to not vote for joe biden and only a week after joe biden himself coming out and saying we're going to be increasing the supply of regeneration of these monoclonal antibody treatments by fifty. Percents we're going to be distributing them out nationwide all of a sudden. We found out that they were throttling. The use the distribution of them in all of these red states just so happened to also be the states that have been hit the hardest by kovin at this particular moment so they were asked on. This and here is that exchange and jen psaki answering the question. Watch not accurate so let me give you the accurate information. First of all we are increasing our distribution this month by fifty percent in early august we were distributing an average of one hundred thousand doses per week now worshiping an average of one hundred fifty thousand doses per week over the last month. Though one thing that i think people need to understand for clarity fax to new facts this at monoclonal. Antibodies are lifesaving therapies. That are used. After infection to more severe outcomes so clearly the way to protect people and save more lives is to get them vaccinated so that they don't get the covert to begin with. But over the last month given the rise cases due to the delta varian and the lower number of vaccination rates in some of these states like florida texas seven states or making up seventy percent of the orders are supply is not unlimited and we believe it should be equitable across states across the.

Says that america's preoccupation with cancel culture is hardly different than that of communist china. Which i believe was blair's point right before we went to break and nikki. Mirage has determined this from all of her. She's been feuding with the left after she said on twitter. That's a friend bear with me here on the story. A friend of her trinidad cousin became impotent. After receiving the kobe nineteen vaccine and his testicles swelled up. I guess would be the professional way to bring this news to you and She said that she did not attend the twenty one gala because she was not vaccinated against corona virus yet requiring vaccine vaccines are requiring you to be vaccinated and she said they want to. This is what she tweeted. They want you to get vaccinated for the met if i get vaccinated. It won't be for the met. It will be once i feel. I've done enough research. I'm working on that now. In the meantime my loves be safe. Where the mass. With two strings that grips your head and face not that loose one okay so not not an anti vacs. Anti mask rant. Obviously telling people mask up if you haven't gotten the vaccine like not what you would call conservative views. She was slammed for that. She was slammed by. Msnbc host joy reid. She was slammed by all of these members of left saying that she was promoting vaccine hesitancy. How dare she do all these. Things and nicki menaj actually went to her instagram and was very upset about all of the comments that she was getting. All of the criticisms. Getting here is what she had to say on that. "Transportation on federal property requirements about testing before individuals come over from overseas. We've also were also, of course, stepping up our vaccine distribution and supply production efforts, which will help get it into the arms of more Americans, but He's hopeful that we can take all of these steps on beheld expedite this process, but you're absolutely right. And he said today and I'll repeat here. It's going to take months and months, and it's our responsibility here in the Biden administration, to be honest with the American people about not just the sacrifices that will be required, and the Americans will have to continue to take But also the length of time that it's going to take to really get this pandemic under control. While speaking of of leveling with or being direct with the American people. The president is promising 100 million doses in the first 100 days, But it's our understanding that there were there going to be twice that many doses available because they're already what is it 300 million. That have been promised that are that are on track right now. So are you under playing underestimating what can really be done in the 1st 100 days? Well, the goal we set a bold goal. It was called at the time and still continues to be is 100 million shots in the arms of Americans in the 1st 100 days on. Certainly, we welcome the Expanded production and expedited production of more Zach Vaccine supply. But we also need to ensure that Americans know how to get the vaccine where they can go to get the vaccine that we do A great deal to address vaccine hesitancy something that you heard Dr Fauci talk about today, So it's not a simple we wish Itwas Aziz. Lining everybody up on their way into a football stadium is requires a much greater Herculean operational effort than that. So you're saying it's more than just about the number of Doses available. But I do want to ask you about the period beyond the 100 days because what manufacturers and others federal state health officials are saying is that there just won't be vaccine available until April or or later for the vast majority of Americans is that is the administration acknowledging that Well, Judea. The reason that we laid out all these steps with the president laid out the steps today in yesterday's, because if we don't take steps now, it is going to slow on not just the supply but slow distribution in a couple of months, and we have, as you noted, supply vaccine supply now, But it is something that we need to look ahead. We need to look down the horizon to April May June. To ensure that we're able to continue to get shots into the arms of Americans. So this is a a long term effort. We set this goal for the 1st 100 days because we feel it's important to hold ourselves accountable on hold ourselves to a bold goal. But it is going to continue beyond that. And we need to keep looking in the months ahead beyond the 1st 100 days to make sure we're prepared when we get there. So much else to ask you about Jen Psaki. Certainly the pandemic has affected the economy. The president is talking about an economic relief package. But as you know, Republicans are already pushing back, saying it's not targeted enough, especially He's $1400 direct payments. Is President Biden prepared to compromise as necessary in order to get some more help out there? Well, Judy that the package was designed. It is a large package. Nobody's denying that certainly not the president. But it was designed with the advice of economists and the advice of health experts on what was required. For this moment in the crisis the country is facing. As you noted, it's the pandemic. It's also the economic crisis and about half of the packages for unemployment insurance. There's money in there for vaccine distribution for reopening schools. And the tricky question here is what exactly do you want to cut Because nobody wants to be having a conversation in May or June about why schools aren't re opening as an example. So No, but he's doing what how he thinks the process should work and frankly, how it hasn't worked in some time, which is the president of the United States lays out his proposal lays out the parameters of what he thinks should happen based on the advice of policy experts. Then he has a discussion with Congress. They have a discussion with each other. And rarely does the sausage look exactly like it. It does coming out of the machine as it did going in, and he's certainly prepared for that, But we're at the early stage and will continue to have those conversations in the days ahead. At the same time you have again. This is coming from Republicans who were saying it Z all well and good the president's early days, but Thies first executive orders but is it 16 17 of them look like a wish list? Ah Progressive Wish list, something that That doesn't sound very much like the President Rhee outreach for Unity if, in other words they're saying if he really wants to work with us, why is he putting such a agenda out there that we can't go along with? Well, I think the question there. Judy is what exactly are they opposed to do They not think there's a climate crisis, or do they not think the critics I should say Not all Republicans far from it? Do they not think that Americans should wear masks? I mean, you look at the polling, and that's not what it says. So you know, I think the president's outreach and success and engaging with members of the Republican Party is going to be judged by his words and by his actions. On that is going to be whether he can work with them. Listen to them here from them, take feedback from them on legislation and find a path forward. But the executive actions that he proposed were what he felt are essential actions to take immediately to bring relief to the American people and overturned some of the most detrimental steps of the prior administration. But he's pretty confident they're still a path forward with Republicans. One other thing, Jen Psaki, and that is the Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell is saying today light today. That he believes the impeachment trial for former President Trump should be delayed until the middle of February to give President Trump time to pull his defenses together is president Biden prepared to see that wait. Well, Judy. The president's focuses primarily on the covert relief package that he announced just a week ago. And that's what he's having conversations with members of both parties about. We're going to leave the mechanics and.
