You know what I'm saying? Whether it's a family member, a relative, somebody you work with, I mean, everybody knows that loud, obnoxious. Did I just say that scratch that? Yeah. I told them my insurance, which I was sure I was paying you to make money for us to have some good, you know, we got to get rid of the direct TV and early got the Comcast. Okay, well, we got really glad to hear that because you're there for a long time and I'm glad you at least when you're there in the afternoon you can catch us. "We broke the news earlier that Aaron Rodgers will be playing for the Titans because I met somebody who claimed to work instruction on his new house and says Aaron will be living there full time. There you go. In case you missed it. I like that. Thank you. It's just in. I can't wait till this gets picked up. Me too, buddy, me too. The rich eisen show radio network. We're here. We're doing it. Thank you. I'm Bobby bones at mister Bobby bones. If you want to follow on social, but follow the rich eyes and show for sure. And I'm sitting at the rich, eisen show desk, furnished by Granger with supplies and solutions for every industry, Granger has the right product for you. Call, click, grant your dot com or just stop by. Now, college basketball time, even if you're not a massive college basketball fan, you'll probably get into some sort of bracket in some way. We do a Calcutta. You guys have heard of that? Where it's a golf game too, right? Yeah, probably. I don't know. They just call it that. But you bid on a team, and let's say, let's say I buy Memphis for 50 bucks. And the further they go, the more money I make, but you also, if they don't go up, you lose money too. So that's all these ways to just, hey, to have fun and be entertained. That's all I'm saying. Nothing else. Entertainment. That's all it is. Entertainment purposes only. Now is the time to kind of get into it if you're going to do a little bit of entertaining. And I'm going to bring on a Coleman crawley who, to me, this guy, I say guys, hey, Coleman, first of all, welcome to the rich eisen show on Bobby bones. You already know me, but how's your day going so far, buddy? It's going great. Thank you so much, Bobby and rich and the team for having me. So how old are you? That's what they were asking me during the break here because in the picture, you're like 9. Yeah, I understand I'm 26 look 12. Yes, that's true. So here's the thing about Coleman. He has been over the last 61 days. How many games have you been to personally in the last 61 days? I've been to now 67 games in 64 days. Okay, so it's nice. 67 and 64. Now he's not just going to all the big games. Actually, it's not that at all. What is your purpose with going to all these games, Coleman? I am trying to find Cinderella before she's at the ball. Last year, Saint Peter's was that Cinderella made a run to the elite 8. They only averaged 500 and 26 people in attendance at their home games. So I knew I could get great access to a high level of basketball. And I'm trying to find everyone darling before march back in January and February. So what is going to give us in a second is if we want to entertain ourselves and make a little extra entertainment, he's going to give us one of those or two of those Cinderella teams that he feels like we're really disrupt the NCAA tournament this year. I want to go back to when you were 14 years old. So like two years. I want to go back to your 14. Tell the guys about the science fair project you did and then what happened at the end of it? Yes, I was in 6th grade and decided to do my science fair project over if I could find trends within data to beat Vegas against the spread. So this was in the fall during college football season. And I actually had quite a bit of success with it. Ten weeks of studying teams and then three weeks of fake predictions, I went 17 and 6 during that stretch. And so they told me my project would have moved on to state. This was a 6 to 9th grade competition. I was the youngest. But being in Oklahoma, they felt that it was unethical to move a gambling project on the state. So didn't get a move on, but got a good grade of my project. Don't they have casinos in Oklahoma? How has an unethical? He's not Native American. I have no idea. Bible belt, I don't know. I mean, the casinos are all Native American there. That's true. And Coleman is, as you can see, a very young. Very white. Very pasty. I was going to say pasty, but white also works, yes. I am native. But yeah, look white. So Coleman, you do the project and they just say you want, but you can't continue, but that kind of inspire you to go into this and actually find ways, as you said, a beat Vegas. Absolutely. My dad's not much of a gambler. He's the one that came up with the idea, but I guess he underestimated how competitive I was. Filthy habit, for sure. All right, we're gonna do three teams that you think could be the Cinderella team from these mid majors. Give us one right now and tell us why. UAB, I've been telling you Marshall was my favorite Cinderella all year long Bobby, but it is switched to UAB since I got to watch them twice over this past weekend. They have maybe the most electric under 6 foot guards in the country in jelly walker. He shoots the ball tremendously well from behind the arc. They've got a standard built like an ox inside and Trey jemison, 6, 7 guy in KJ Buffett and ultra athletic 6 regard that played an LSU last year in Eric gain. So they absolutely have power 6 level of athleticism size to go along with this sensational player in jelly walker. Marshall, same thing, power 6 athleticism size that they have a guy in tavion Kinsey going to be a pro without a doubt and Andy Taylor is another guard. They both average over 20 points per game on the same team. They're definitely a team that could be a Cinderella outside of that. There's several teams that I could pick. I'm going to go with Drake out of the Missouri valley. They have a coach's son as the leading score. He's a sophomore at Tucker debris, averages 19 points per game. Outside of Tucker, the next 5 leading scorers are all seniors. So there are veteran team that shoots the ball really well, and I think there are a team that could make a run as well. So write this down, you may be Marshall Drake. That's call mccray. Give us that there. So you can make some extra entertainment when March Madness starts. Coleman, how many miles you put on your car in the last 60 days or so? Driving around? 19,000. In two months, driving to all these three hundred a day. And how do you have the money to do this? Meaning you had a job, what was the job? Yes, I worked in sales. And so I knew I was going to get paid commission at the end of the year and thought, okay, I can use that commission to have, I guess, bet on myself money for the next couple of months before I run out and go dead broke and we're getting close to running out and going dead broke, but we're going to fight food through March. He's going to go to march. Coleman crawley, bracketologist, a guy that grinds. I hired him on my sports show called 25 whistles, which is a podcast, and he's so good. And there you go. You may be Marshall and Drake. And are you still married or has your wife left you yet for driving to all these games? I'm still married. She's about to fly out Friday, but talk to me again next month, and I may have a different answer for you. All right, buddy hey, we appreciate the time, and we're gonna hold you accountable with these teams do not win. I say a lot of entertainment. Okay, buddy. Understand, understand. Thank you for having me. All right, there he is. Yeah. I mean, he's a kid that goes hard, right? You have to respect just the driver. Yeah. About what he did. Wow. He does not have a, it's not like as much family money and can just go like, I'll take mommy and daddy's money and then go drive around. He worked hard, built up, and then took that and bet on himself.

"15 tip is that fog Allen. And then your two 25 tip is that Gallagher iba. That would be incredible. But it's just not going to happen. We occasionally do get these games around these college campuses, or at least nearby, and we just take what we can get. I'm just glad they kicked it out of football stadiums until we get to the final four. Take the wins where we can get them. What have we got next? Well, we have next is Sam from Boise and he's got he's got a little high hopes here. He's right. I was thinking about Gonzaga and how they've been able to rise above their mid major conference and become a perennial national power. What mid to low major programs do you see having the potential to do similar? As a Grand Canyon student, I have to make the Homer case as a wax school, there isn't a super dominant program that we have to get over and it only a few years we have become one of the three to 5 best programs in the conference. We're in Phoenix, which will help with ratings and recruiting and we don't have a football team, which could potentially help retain price drew and any future coaches because they get priority in funding and attention. We are also a big school with one of the best environments in the country. Big hopes. Big hopes. I don't know if we've done something like this on a mailbag before. I have gotten this question. I get it annually. So I wanted to include this one. Gonzaga's outlier. There are no other schools. It's not going to happen. One of one, one of one in college athletics. Wichita state flirted with being Gonzaga light. How's that going these days? There can't be programs that can uplift their profile, which to us they did that. We've seen it with Belmont Murray state making the jump to the Missouri valley, butler went to the big east. Dude named Brad coach in order to help make that happen. Creighton is obviously done similar and has done well. But those programs still aren't Gonzaga. Again, one of one. And we've even seen with Gonzaga because of its success, the quasi pickle it even finds itself in with league association right now. Dennis Dodd reported last week that the big 12 was having meetings just to discuss the Gonzaga as a potential member. And I know that's kind of got Gonzaga's fans attention right now. My understanding, my impression is that Brett yore Mark, the commissioner of the big 12, is certainly very interested in adding Gonzaga. And I think the athletic directors need to be convinced. And my opinion is that they would not just, if they expand again, they aren't going to 13. They would go to 14 minimally, I think. And I believe they would add at least one more basketball first type of school west of the Mississippi if they did that. Someone did lob me a name, but I'm going to keep that to myself and this was some months ago. We'll see if that winds up actually being possible. I don't know if Gonzaga will go to the big 12 or not. I know Gonzaga wants to upgrade its spot overall. I think it should go to the PAC 12. I think the pack 12 has to figure out some things and soon on that front because it's going to add San Diego state. What's the other team? A lot of buzz around SMU. Could you add Gonzaga as a 13th member for basketball? Because there's no football. It's certainly intriguing, but the powers that be at Gonzaga are trying to figure out what they can do, and this is going to be something that I think really gets legs this year in 2023 because of the rights deals that are set to come up here and what, you know, conferences need to figure out big dream is probably not dead, but I still have, you know, that's still a tough sell for presidents in that league. And are they going to take all the schools? So I don't know. That wasn't directly your question, but if you can tag I think it's kicking around the old noggin there. But no other school is going to repeat this model. They're one of one and they will never be repeated again. What have we got next? Andrew, from Somerset, New Jersey week as you know, we had to get the Rutgers folks in here. He brings up season ticket holder and alumni of Rutgers grew up one mile from campus and never left. You failed to mention Rutgers biggest win this year. It wasn't against Purdue. It was against UMass Lowell. Okay. Our bad will never happen again. We love our audience. Next. All right, Mike from Boston. He asked which mid majors are best built to do damage in the field of 68 this year. Who are the mid major players to watch as we head to February and March. There's still a lot of candidates out there. And I could give you 20, but I don't want to do that. Okay, let me give you I'll give you about 5. 5 teams not named FAU or Charleston Charleston now again. I might need that auto bit at this point. UAB? What if the USA was too big? Jelly walker, keep an eye on them. Southern mist has done really well for itself. Kent State or Akron, I'm going to give you more than 5, because either one that comes out of the Mac. There can say it's got sincere carry and he's a guard capable. I think I'm having the composure to do damage in March. Eastern Washington has won 14 in a row out of the big sky. It's got the longest win streak in the country now, trivia time your Friends on that one. Keep an eye for EW. It's actually showed itself well in the tournament over the past 7, 8 years. And almost got there season ago, was doing well in the so con and has some real players there. Those are teams names to know. I don't know if Chattanooga will get to turn them out so calm but Jake Stevens is I think he's second in PER in the country to Zack Edie. He has been a monster. And he was expected to be. He transferred to Chattanooga followed his coach, Dan are all from VMI. Tucker devries at Drake is good Tucker debris would be a power conference player if his dad was not coaching a tree. So if they get in out of the Missouri valley keep an eye on them, max asimus is back to his old ways or Roberts is certainly tracking to dance again out of the summit and that team is really clicking. Paul mills group, ace miss is a ball of fun, plenty of our listeners are all too familiar with him after the damage he did a couple of years ago. Darius McGee is another one who's just been around for a while if liberty breaks through. Out of the a sun expect expect some real damage. And then Aaron Estrada has been playing well as of late for hofstra. If Charleston doesn't get there out of the CAA, if hofstra does shout out to the flying Dutchman, Aaron Estrada is certainly a mid major name to no. Next. All right, we got my man Jack asking a very, very sad question because as we talked about beheim giving, again, on Sunday, that beheim may need to go. He asks, Florida state is trending towards their worst season in 20 years. And no way do I want Hamilton to leave FA FSU or college basketball on this kind of note. Hamilton has been a great coach with a storied career, and as a fan of the sport, I was hoping he might get another shot at the limelight by attorney run in March. But at the end of the day, he's a 74 year old coach struggling mightily with while the college basketball landscape around him changes. Might we see Leonard Hamilton join K Roy Wright in the near future? Plenty of speculation if this is going to be Leonard Hamilton's last season. I would not like to see him go out with such a whimper of a campaign. But

"Who could save your franchise at the top of the draft as well as the ones that could boost a recently eliminated playoff team over the top. Follow and listen to with the first pick anywhere you find your podcast. All right, I think what we're going to do next, we're going to go to our video questions because we have I want to spark more of this inspiration right now because I got to have more of these. All right, let's go. So we'll start here. Hey, y'all, this is Doug and Winston Salem, North Carolina, with there being no clear contender to win those championship this year, which team do you think is most likely to win it that's never one of the four, in which team do you think is most likely to make it to the final four that's never made it before? This is a good question. This is why I got to do the solo with no GP though. Because he'd be like, I don't have the list. I don't have it in front of me. Purdue is my answer that's never won it before. Purdue's 32 helms championship doesn't count. We're going 39 when they started the tournament to know. So Purdue would be my answer. Most likely team to never make the final four. That's Bama. I can just tell you that off the top of my dome here because on the Sunday episode, I told you I would put Bama number two in my hierarchy for national championship right now. If that's the case, I've got Purdue one. I gotta have Bama too. So that's actually that was a little bit of a freebie there. Bama would be my overwhelmingly most likely candidate. And that spot, but it's certainly going to be interesting to see how the tournament unfolds nada. I do think there is a healthy chance, not just of a first time champion, never won an NCA term before. We got a healthy chance of that. I think there's just as healthy of a chance that we have at least one team get down to Houston that's never made it to a national semifinal over the past 80 plus the year. So I'm excited. And I think having those new kinds of storylines always makes for fun. And it gives such gives these fan bases such excitement to have those kind of runs. Because there have been reliable someone over the years, obviously. But if you can get a fan base down there that just they get there and they're like, are we going to experience this ever again? Because you never had before, I think that really adds to the flavor of final four. It's one of the big reasons why I love college hoops. I'm just imagining Purdue fans getting down to Houston now. And I don't know why the thought of that just tickles me. I don't. But it does right now. I don't know. Just the shock and awe and then Zach Edie in a final four, all that. It tickles me. It makes me, it makes me excited for the tournament that is gonna be here in 5 weeks. And mine in your life ceases to exist as we know it basically. Let's get to Brett. Brett, Brett, now he's got a little interesting situation. His wife and him are huge listeners. He says, we often save episodes for long trips to listen together. She's a college basketball fanatic, a turp who helped me a gator discover my own love for the game. So having only been a fan for ten years, it seemed to me that in the last 5 years or so, we have started to see more parity in terms of teams at the very top and say the top 40. I feel like historically, from what I've heard on the show, in the past, there have been very dominant teams for long periods of time, whereas more now teams are able to break into the top 40. Do you feel like that's accurate? And if so, what is influence this? And then he ends it really, really well. The world is a vampire. I don't have that drop on my board, and I think I got it. Although how many times am I going to give you a little bit of Billy Corgan? But I got to get that on there. So thank you. Thank you for the Brett. Thank you for the reminder there. Good question. And always encourage marital listening at the same time. That's wonderful. That is really, really cool. So I'm happy to hear that. I think we might have another joint email from a couple coming in the bag. And if we don't, I think it's waiting in the wings and the inbox. Parody, how about this? Okay, so parody has, it's always existed. I think in college hoops, but our perception of what that word means and how it impacts the sport. I think that has changed because I think of all the major American team sports out there. College basketball is certainly the most susceptible to things just weren't what they used to be, man. They're just not like they were, but players are more skilled than ever. They're quicker. They're bigger. They're stronger. They're faster. But the product is viewed as inferior as to how it used to be and part of that being because college hoops is just younger. We used to just always have these teams with seniors on them. It's also played differently. I mean, it's cultural impact because of that and it's cultural impact isn't as big now as it was in 1996 or 1985. I'm not convinced the actual play is irrefutably worse than it was 35 years ago. Real quick nada agree or disagree on that. Because I think a lot of not a lot, but some people think you pick up a college hoops game in 1985 and just the game and the way it was played for 40 minutes was just better than in 2023. Can't decide. I don't think it was better. I think it's better now. I think you're getting a lot better mid major games. Maybe at the major level, it was better 30 years ago because you only could go to so many places to get that TV exposure. But for now, you've got your midriff. I mean, amani Bates is playing at eastern Michigan. We've got jelly walker doing what he's doing. You have Florida Atlantic doing what they're doing. Charleston. Up and down the league, you have so many more of these schools that can compete now because the talent level is so great and that you can play so many different places that I think it's better now in terms of schools one, two probably what, one 20, whereas in the 80s, maybe you got,

"Top two mid major teams right now. I would say, well, I have Charleston shouts to Charleston, Charleston was 19th in my May 19 the last team in my power rankings there. Pat Kelsey has done a really nice job. They are not, you know, they're not top 50 in Ken Tom right now. I think they're somewhere in the 90s. But there are 12 and one with an 11 one record against division one competition. The only loss came at North Carolina and they played well in that game. They've beaten the likes of Davidson, Colorado state, Virginia tech, Kent State. So they've done pretty well for themselves overall. I'm going to take this question I mean schools outside of, I'm going to say outside of the WCC mountain west a ten. Even though there are many mid majors there, I want to try and get to what I think more of what the spirit of your question was there. Another one that's been good so far this season is Florida Atlantic. It's 40th in Ken Palmer as we speak right now only loss is at old mess has a win over Florida on the resume and that is a road win as well. So dusty may, former Florida assistant from a predicted metric standpoint, C USA team, 48 right now, heading into Christmas. That's quite aberrational overall. And that was not the team from that conference that was expected to be the noisiest team. It was UAB. Maybe north Texas. Those teams are right behind at UAB right now, ten and two north and Texas is ten and two as well. So those are the two that stand out for me. Any mid major that's caught your eye other than those through the first 7 weeks of the season GP. Well, yeah, like if we're taking New Mexico off the board, San Diego date off the board. And we're really focusing more on schools outside of conferences like the American, all the power 5s, the biggies, the mountain west, the WCC, then I do think Florida Atlantic is a great one. UAB is a good one north Texas is a good one. It's got three top 55 Kim Kong teams. The American only has two. And you know, I'm drawing a line there, like if I said top 60, it'd be three and three, I think. But what I said is true. CSA has more top 55 Kim pom teams right now than the American event, but a conference does. I would go in that direction, jelly walker has been terrific again. And UAB looks like a team from a mid major conference that can get into the NCA tournament and really scare somebody. Colin McDonald writes, I came across the feed in 2017 and I've listened to every single pod since. I was listening to northlanders take on Villanova being a blue blood and I agree with him. However, it begs the question that if a program can play their way into blue blood status over time, as Villanova, I argued previously. They also have to be able to play their way out as much as I am sure there will be blowback on this. It is time that the fabled Indiana hoosiers get dropped from the conversation. Let's look at the numbers Indiana has not won a national championship since 87 have not had a number one team in more than ten years and are not even the best program in their own state. Purdue has more Big Ten titles, more all Americans leads the head to head series by a substantial margin. I am not arguing that Purdue is a blue blood program, but this illustrates that this greatest Indiana once was, those days have come and gone. Off the top of my head, Michigan, Michigan state, Arizona perdue Baylor Gonzaga are all better programs currently than Indiana agree or disagree on this premise, by the way, GP additionally, someone named Mark show bot sent in a novella, which I'm not reading. He basically wanted to know why Yukon isn't a blue blood or considered one. He tagged his question with PS. There were more of you than there are of me, but I don't have child support. Thank you, Mark, for that. Now this is interesting because I did make the case that was a blue blood and I stand by that. Should teams be able to eventually be kicked out of the club there. While I think the answer perish should be yes, it almost feels like the tradition, the nostalgia, the history, then almost fuels the interest in college sports, prevents a school from ever fully being pulled away. That chair is not getting pulled away from that table. If Indiana doesn't make the NCAA tournament for the next 8 years, and then, you know, 15 years from now, it's finally back in a final four, right? It's going to be the Indian. I just don't know if they're ever going to be taken out of that consideration of like one of these historical powers. But it is an intriguing question. And when you consider right now, Arizona is a better program. Gonzaga, for sure. Baylor, I can't say, I can't say Michigan has a close case Michigan state as well. What are your thoughts on that? I think debating whether somebody's a blue blood or not is a lot like debating Michael Jordan or LeBron James. Like you can make, is Indiana, blue blood or not. Let's debate it. And you can make good points on both sides and you're not changing anybody's mind.

"Kennedy has a legitimate team that should be the best in a good conference USA. North Texas, western Kentucky, they're also considered capable of winning the league in fairly so to me, UAB sets up as a top 40 team in the country. And I think with what Kennedy has been able to do, they're going to have a really good shot. Again, jelly walker is much CTV. Saint Mary's and BYU and the WCC, you got to put them there. Randy Bennett is as reliable as almost any coach in the country. Like, I do think Randy Bennett has got to be under consideration for top 20 coaches in the sport when you look at it's one of those things where when you talk to other, we don't live on the West Coast. We don't go to a lot of WCC games in person if any, right, GP. I live on the West Coast. There we go. And so when you talk to coaches that have coached in that league, familiar with that leak, familiar with Randy Bennett, familiar with what saint Mary's was 30 years ago, ten years ago and what he's able to do consistently, he gets a ton of respect. Now he's not that he's not, you know, he's not super quotable, right? And he kind of looks like her send deck. And so you don't get a lot of Randy Bennett. Buzz and pop out there. But just in terms of coaching the team and running a program, he's considered quite high level. So you have to consider saint Mary's back and prominently involved. They lost Tommy cousy, who, hello, I think he's on the spurs. So we'll see how much of a drop off that is or isn't. He's put a few guys into the pros in the past 15 years and then BYU. I question for you real quick. We got to turn in a list of the top 25 and one college basketball coaches. There we go. I've already turned mine in. Now you're hitting on it. Yes, Randy Bennet was inside my top 20. You had Randy Bannon on it. I did. Okay. Yeah, he was somewhere between 15 and 20. I did. Yes. I think that's reasonable. I've got to do my list. There you go. There you go. So if anybody is not on that list, you can blame Paris. Although he said, I'm going to put Randy Ben on the list. I think he has to be on the list. When you look at what saint Mary's is and what he's accomplished, I think he needs to be on the list of the 25 best coaches in the sport. Yes. BYU Mark Pope, this is their last week in the last year in the WC they'll go to the big 12. And I really think Gideon George will be one of the breakout players in the WCC. BYU fans know who he is, but he's got a really good backstory. I think they're intriguing. I think they're going to be a bubble ish team. And then Drake, yes, you mentioned de vries, Tucker, sophomore, our top 101 list, if it's not out yet, it's due to be out soon. I don't know if Tucker made the list. He was on mine. My individual ballot back in preseason player of the year, really good player, I was talking with our buddy Sam pasini, who actually kind of likes Tucker long-term as an NBA prospect. So we'll see if he is that awesome, then Drake could maybe have it run it back from two years ago when Drake actually made it in as an at large team into the NCA tournament when the valley got two, obviously that was the loyalist Chicago went to the sweet 16 in the bubble tournament. So before I kind of hits a few leagues here, any thoughts on that's how I group the team. Maybe you think there's a team that I didn't run off that should have an outlaw show, but that's how I would be. You know, tulane, I think is a possible at large candidate out of the American athletic conference. Most people have a Houston Memphis, and then either Cincinnati or tulane. Well, I don't even know why I have two lane in here. We've already did the American scrap them. Scrap them. Hold on though. You're correct, but I would also say. Delete that. I don't belong in this podcast. They're not best for the rest of their American athletic conference. Okay. That's on me. It's an unforced error. I don't have my board right now. I should have had, I should have had it ready. Okay, fair enough. All right, quick rundown leagues, okay? 8 ten, VC. I'm not talking about any more college Biggs or Kanye West or tulane. Boycotting all three for now. Oh man. Okay. Ron hunter, I'm sorry. A ten. VCU loyal to Chicago, George Mason with the teams that the other a ten teams that made my top 101 VCU has ace Baldwin, who is just an outstanding outstanding defender and Mike Rhodes didn't make my list for top 25 coaches, but I'll be honest. I put about 35, 40 names on it. Mike Rhodes was on that list. I think he is really, really good. And VCU should be a factor again. You got to consider that home court advantage in that league as well. Jade none I've heard has actually been tremendous as well. So they might wind up with the best backcourt in the a ten this season. We'll see loyal as Chicago is making the transition. Talk with drew Valentine over the summer and he's got good optimism, but he did mention to

"That is CBS sports dot com slash win or find it on the CBS sports app to play the CBS sports college football pick them. No purchase necessary, see rules for details. Agreed. All right, let's keep it going, GP. What else you got? What should the list know? So those are the three Gonzaga Dayton San Diego state in the top 25. There are actually 14 of these types of schools in the top 80 at Ken pom. I'll run you through that real quick and then you can take it wherever you want to. At Ken Palmer, it's number one is Gonzaga. Number 19 is San Diego state. You mentioned the biggest challenger to date in the a ten. That is St. Louis comes in at number 39 at Ken pom. BYU is 44th saint Mary's 47th. Those are the two other top 50 teams from the West Coast conference. Outside of the top 50, but inside the top 80, number 52 UAB. This is your three for Andy Kennedy. He's been killing it in Birmingham. It got another team that, you know, should be considered the favorite in conference USA, jelly walker is back. Loyola Chicago is at 59. Tulane is at 63 Wyoming is at 64 north Texas at 67 grant mccaslin. Utah state 68 Furman 69 and Drake is at 79, thanks to the father son combo, the de vries, Tucker, of course, after nearly 14 points per game as a freshman last season. Those are the teams from outside of the traditional power structure that at least in one computer project as possible in CAA tournament teams. And so based on that list, you go wherever you want to go. All right. Yeah, I'll just take the floor here, hop in as need be. I will, I'm going to focus on the teams that I think have at let's go first on the team 6 teams that I think have viable at large hopes. So I was kind of splitting the difference here. Like, I don't have VCU in this group, but we could look up in VC will be in this group, but to me, St. Louis, who I have 30th, Wyoming, I have 36 UAB I have 39 saint Mary's, I have 49 BYU I 53 and Drake I 59. Those are the 6 non power conference mid majors who are a level below Gonzaga, San Diego state and entering the season. But I think that those 6 teams could be putting themselves into a position where they are on the bubble near the bubble. Maybe even off the bubble and in good standing by the time we get to the first week of March their St. Louis is the viable contender to Dayton in the a ten. Travis Ford gets back javonte Perkins, who was the preseason a ten player a year ago, then he suffered a preseason injury. He was out. He is back. He gets alongside him a returning point guard. We should talk about it in terms of like top 5 point guard in America because he let the nation at 8 assists a game last season. Yuri Collins. So the billikens who are obviously Friends of the pod shouts to the bills, they will, they will potentially have one of their better teams of the past 20, 25 years here. And I think that they've got a good shot. Some people actually think that St. Louis could wind up being better than dating. And I'm here to hear your argument. I think that's certainly possible. The close enough in a number of pre season outlooks on that. So they're an intriguing one. You before I kind of keep rolling here just to get a quick thought on Travis forged group. Yeah, javonte Perkins coming back for St. Louis. A little bit like a poor man's market SaaS are coming back for Houston. Incredible college basketball players who suffered seasoning injuries last season. Perkins preseason, saser in season. But should be on paper the best players on two teams that have a chance to have really, really nice seasons. Yuri Collins, you mentioned him. Average 7.9 assists per game. And they also edge Yvonne Pickett transfer from Missouri. Transport's got a really nice roster. I obviously like most have it date in one St. Louis two in that league, but if we look up in February in that order slip, nothing crazy. St. Louis has got a really nice a ten roster. I'll get to a few of the names in the a ten in just a minute here. But let's keep going with viable at large candidates going in. Wyoming 36, Jeff linder is a really good coach. He was one I identify. I did a best of the rest preview that published about a week and a half ago at CBS sports dot com. If you're listening to this, we'll drop that into the description of the pod, so however you're listening. If you want to read this along as you. Linda was one of the 5 coaches identified. There's more than 5, but kind of keep the list as short as short as it needs to be. And he was one that I thought was really on the rise here. He coached his style is different. I talked to him last year about this. He almost takes an approach whereas a lot of college basketball coaches are looking like four out one in certainly utilizing the three point line, a lot of pick and roll. If not pace and space, he equated his approach to being like, I'm the guy that wants to put two running backs in the backfield and hand off on for a second and third down with his two best players, hunter Maldonado, who is a 6, 7 point guard who is probably going to be the most likely triple double guy in the sport this season. I think he could be on the board maybe for three or four triple doubles, which is a rarity and college basketball shouts to Kyle collinsworth. And so between him and Graham Ike, who is just, you know, a live in the paint, great power forward. Ike actually won pre season player of the year in the mountain west, according to the coaches poll. I think Maldonado is objectively the better player. He certainly more well rounded player. Wyoming did make the tournament last year and lenders got that program certainly interesting. It's obviously another team that you are quite familiar with because CBS Sports Network airs a number of mountain west games in Wyoming is prominently featured there. So I think Wyoming is the, to me, Wyoming is the clear cut number two in the mountain west and again, I'll get to a couple other mountain west teams and explain why, but keep an eye on them and then real quick. UAB has a top 5 entertaining player in the sport, jelly walker comes back. He shoots without a conscience. We love him for it. Andy Kennedy has a legitimate team that should be the best in a good conference USA. North Texas, western Kentucky, they're

"That Chattanooga led that game for 39 minutes and 35 seconds. It's a 40 minute game. In case you don't follow college basketball too closely. 40 minute game in regulation, Chattanooga led the game for all, but 25 seconds Illinois took the lead for the first time inside the final minute. Chad anuga had the ball last possession with a chance to win it. Malachi Smith got it. His first shot blocked and then got it back. And incredibly, got a one bounce in rhythm clean look mid range jumper and just missed it. And after the game, he said, that's a shot I practice. Every day. Because the one bounce pull up jumper is a shot every basketball player practices every day. He says the shadow practice every day. So shadow usually make and I missed it and I let my teammates down and he was really down in the dumps about it. Now, you know, as teammates will lift him up and he'll be okay. But when you Chattanooga, you don't so it's a program that hasn't won an incidentally tournament game. Beliefs since 1997, it's been a long time. And you don't get many opportunities where you've got a clean look at a makeable jumper to beat a Big Ten champion. And that's what they had. And he just missed it. So Illinois moves on to play Houston, which destroyed UAB on Friday night 82 68. Like I said, jelly walker was not good in this one. Houston really prioritized making things difficult for him. He finished just one of Tim from three. Yeah, I don't know how much of this game you ended up catching, but this Illinois comeback was truly stunning. The mox led by 14 points in the first half. They opened the second half with a 7 O run. They ended up going up by 11 points there. Illinois had a ten O run in the second half and Alfonso plummer really honestly just completely bailed Illinois out in the second half. He had 13 of his 15 points in the second half. He made all three of Illinois's three pointers in this game, and they were all in the second half. David Jean Baptiste only had four points on two of 11 shooting. Really Chattanooga's office just completely flatlined in the second half. And this was a defensive shootout in many ways. There was a ton of offense to go around. I was impressed that Illinois was able to at least hang on in this game and yeah, they led for all of 25 seconds, but they were the 25 seconds that ended up mattering and they escaped 54, 53. I saw all of the early stuff. Because, you know, I wasn't in studio till later. I was doing CBS CBS sports headquarters during the day right in a column during the day. Had radio at four central 5 eastern and then in the studio. But the truth is, we went on air live at. 11 p.m. eastern, and we were on air for two straight hours. You know, commercial breaks, but that's it. We're on air for two straight hours, highlights, going to press conferences. The discussing what just happened, discussing what it sets up. So once it gets late, that's when I, I'm not able to watch the games anymore because we're talking on television. So like early, I saw Ohio State loyal to Chicago. And man, loyal to Chicago just, I mean, terrible. 41 points against Ohio State. It's Ohio State team that's not great defensively. I think they were like one 32 and adjusted defensive efficiency. According to Ken pom before the game and like jumped up to a round 100 after the game, like moved significantly because of how well they handled loyal to Chicago on that end of the court. So loyal to Chicago eliminated in the first round. I saw all of that. Obviously Notre-Dame Alabama, the Irish, the latest first 14, to advance to the round of 32. We talked about this on CBS Sports Network tonight. If you're Notre-Dame, you don't want to be in the first four. Nobody wants to be in the first four. If you get there as an at large team, it means that you didn't have a great season. But once you get there, if you're Notre-Dame, you got to feel like, all right, we can win two games here because in the first one you're playing another first 14. By definition, they're just like you. And incredibly, they get to play into the main bracket and they get an Alabama team that had lost to teams worse than them all season long. Like when you get into these types of situations where it's a win or you're done, those are the stakes. I'm always interested to look at one team and go, okay, and this is oversimplifying it, sure. But you'll get the point. Hey, is this team we're about to play? Have they lost to anybody like us all season long? And if the answer is no, you're up against it, right? Now, obviously there are exceptions to this. Saint Peter's Kentucky being a great one. Wild things happen. But what Notre-Dame could do when it got matched up with a game with Alabama say, hey, is Alabama lost to anybody like us? This season? And you say, oh boy, they've lost a plenty of people like you this season. And people way worse than you this season. So I thought that was a favorable matchup for Notre-Dame. I actually picked Notre-Dame to win the game. And of course, when javon Quinn goes down with what Nate oats described as a serious knee injury, I don't want to say that was game set match, but it just felt like, you know, if Alabama was going to win this game, they needed to have their full complement of players and when you lose somebody, the caliber quarterly, that got real tough. And so then Alabama ends up losing the game by 14 points. Yeah, and the quarterly injury injury was early in the game too for Alabama. That was kind of a tough break early and Notre-Dame was really, really impressive in this one, especially. I mean, you look at the Irish, they just played a double overtime game just a few days ago. Cormac Ryan was on just an absolute heater in this one. 29 points. For Notre-Dame was really impressed with what he was able to do. Alabama, last season, I was really impressed with what 8 notes NATO stood with that team as one of the best defensive teams in college basketball. That has really not been the case for that team all year. They've been hot or cold. They've had some great wins. They beat Gonzaga. They beat Baylor, but they've lost to some teams that are much worse than I think they probably should have should have probably ended up winning. So not surprised that they would fall in the first round. And definitely not surprised that this Notre-Dame team that seems to be gelling at the right time was able to knock them out of the bracket. Virginia tech entered today, having won the ACC tournament, Notre-Dame. Texas rather entered a day on a three game losing streak and then Texas goes out and handled Virginia tech 81 73, so Chris beard once again advancing in the NCAA tournament and then I do want to highlight Iowa state over LSU. 59 54 TJ burger in the round of 32 of the NCA tournament after inheriting a program that won just two games last season. I mean, that is a remarkable coaching job. And it's also the reason fan bases and we've talked about this before. And athletic directors don't want to really hear anybody talking about I got a three year plan or I need time or people need to be patient. Like TJ Austen burger has blown that out of the water. Trust me, you take over power.

"NCAA tournament games, NFL, Champions League, PGA Tour, and some of the best films and shows being made right now among them mayor of Kingstown starring Academy Award nominee, Jeremy Renner. So just shout out peacocks or dodo birds or leaky black or larnell in the comments. Leave your Twitter handle or your Instagram handle with your comment. And if you win, nada will contact you and hook you up. All right, strong job. Good to see you. And I wish I could tell you that the first Friday of this NCAA tournament was awesome. But relative to Thursday, at least it was kind of boring. Top seed Arizona cruised to an 87 70 win over ripe state. Three number two seats played duke Villanova auburn. They each won by at least 17 points. None of them even came close to pulling a Kentucky number three seed perdue, blew out Yale, three C Texas tech glue out Montana state, three C, Wisconsin, got tested, but got by Colgate. 16 gains were played on Friday ten of them were decided by double digits. Strong jaw, you tell me was I just spoiled by Thursday or is it true that Friday was mostly just just okay. Y'all. It's a good start to my podcast. Thursday was fantastic for starters. Friday was just okay. You know, there was some good games there were some close games, some of the top teens were tested, most notably number three seed Wisconsin that came down to the wire. Against Colgate. But on the whole, I think Friday was relatively disappointment. It was pretty bland, especially in comparison to what we got in round one on Thursday, which was just a ton of upsets, a ton of games coming down to the wire. That was not the case on Friday. No. Listen, you can't have the peacocks on every day. That's not the way the incident of a tournament works. And by the way, kind of a weird moment with the peacocks because seton hall got smashed by TCU. Late Friday. And in the postgame press conference, Kevin willer was asked about his future because he's been widely connected to the Maryland job. In fact, most people in the industry believe that soon, he will be named the next head coach at Maryland. At which point shaheen Holloway Saint Peter's coach will, you know, eventually become the next coach at seaton hall. Shaheen, of course, played there and used to work there and so it all makes sense. And usually coaches in Kevin's situation will just say things like, hey, you know, tonight's about my team about my players, you know, all of the speculation about my future. We can discuss that another time. And he was just like, you know, I'm going to sit down with my agent and we'll talk it out and I'll be real honest and, you know, if I'm not here, if shaheen Holloway is here, that would make me the happiest person on the planet. It was like, wow, Saint Peter has got a game in a few hours and you basically just announced to the world that their coach will be leaving them very, very soon. So it was just an interesting situation. Did you catch any of that? I did, and the timing is just incredible. If you're a seat and hall fan, I get that timing wise, it's just got to be awful. I mean, they just lost 69 42 to TCU. It's the third biggest tournament loss for seaton hall in program history. Stephen hall shot 29% from the field. I mean, it was, it was just a dreadful performance and if I'm a seat in hall fan, I've got to be just I great at Kevin Willard because it feels a lot like he's just, hey, I'm looking past this game. I don't really care. I've got my I've got my next spot picked out, it's on you, shaheen Holloway. If you've noticed in these postgame press conferences, you see a lot of coaches and especially a lot of players, very in tune with what people were saying. You know, it's like you saw in the Houston postgame. It was like, you know, we had heard a lot about jelly walker. And so, you know, we wanted to try to keep him under control or the Providence players were like, we saw everybody was picking South Dakota state. And you know, we were like, we're the biggie's champions. I'm paraphrasing here, but a lot of that we heard what people were saying, we saw what people were tweeting. We saw it was on Instagram and if you acknowledge that that is been noticeable over the past two days, then you have to acknowledge this. The scene helped players have been seeing and hearing that their coach is leaving. And there's no way to prove that that played a role in this, but for Satan hall to come out and get smacked like that. I think they shot 28% from the field. You know, I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that maybe just maybe all of the speculation about their coach leaving might have caused some issue that led to them playing as poorly as they played all season. Yeah, I mean, good luck trying to overlook that. I mean, the potentially the future of the program that you're playing for is in doubt at the very least. Now Shaquille Holloway, if he does end up being the seat hall coach, I think that's going to end up probably being a really good fit. But if you're a player, it's really hard to ignore some of that noise, whether it's on social media, whether it's through the media, and the way that they just came out completely flat in this one. Credit to TCU, they looked really good. Mike miles had 21 points. It's my guy. TCU ended at 35 year drought between NCAA tournament wins, really, really impressive for the horn frogs there, but yeah, if you're seeing hall player, it's got to be hard to block out some of that noise. And I would imagine they entered this game with that at least in the back of their heads knowing that potentially Kevin Willard could be on his way out. There's no question. So like I said, 16 games played on Friday, ten of them decided by double digits. It was obviously one of them. One of the ones that wasn't was probably my favorite game of Friday. And that was Illinois Chattanooga. Illinois wanted 54 53. And what at 54 53, despite the fact.

"Against either right state or Bryant. We don't know who yet. Friday, 7 27 p.m. easterns in San Diego. You're going to be able to watch it on truTV. Disrespectful. Number one, Arizona. TruTV. Disrespectful. I just give we're obviously recording this Wednesday before we get to Bryant state. Listen, write state moving along would be fine. I want Peter kiss versus Kirk, again, swag. Kurt Kris is dead. Sir swag cap. I want Kirk Reese's smack talking from the bench Peter kiss. Swag capital of this bracket, okay? There are no two players that are more arrogant and cocky than these two. Give me Brian versus Arizona. I have Arizona winning and covering no matter who's playing and what the line is. Hidden with his crutch. Yay. You might literally throw it at him. He threw his shoes in the stands out for Arizona when the PAC 12 title. So I think we're both going to have Arizona moving on, but obviously there's no number on the game yet. So just Arizona to move on. Came to south regional number 8 seat in hall. Number 9 TCU Friday 9 57 p.m. eastern in San Diego. Appropriately on truTV. Okay. I mean, it just is. All right, so we got frogs versus pirates. Hot frogs are one point favorites. Pirates. Shouts to born on a pirate ship. Old apartment, great song off that barenaked ladies album, para I'm sure spends it all the time. Fading memories blending into del Tableau. You know what I'm saying? JP, right? Here we go. I will go, I will go, I will go TCU both here. Jamie Dixon, we got a lot of coaches guiding their Alma maters to the NCAA tournament. Dixon's like one of 12 or more. There's a lot of those. I will take TCU to win in a complete coin flip as far as I'm concerned. The wrong team favored. Oh, it is. The wrong team favorite situation. You know how this usually goes for you though? Yeah. I know how everything usually goes for me. Kevin will or lose in this game. Last game at seton hall? Oh man. No shortage of buzz that Willard really is the number one guy for Maryland at this point. I will say no, I will say Kevin Willard is still a seat and hall. But that is that's for me that might be a wrong team favorite situation as well, but I will say no. Game three, south regional. Number 5 Houston against number 12 UAB, Friday, 9 20 p.m. eastern in Pittsburgh. You can watch it on TNT, the cougars are 8 and a half point favorites. I flipped on this. I had Houston, I'm going to give a shout out right now to shot quality. How about this? Put up a graphic a couple of days ago. Only four teams in the NCAA tournament field rank in the tournament's top 15 in transition scoring volume and their efficiency and transition. The four teams are Gonzaga, a one seed, Kansas a one seed, Arizona once and you may be a 12. That's a joke. That's an absolute joke. It's single handedly flipped me on this game. I am taking UAB to win, obviously to cover and doing so. Houston is a 5 is fine. Houston hasn't beaten a ton of really good teams this season. Andy Kennedy's got a really, really solid team. Jelly walker said afterward. We don't care. He had a great quote, man. I wish I had the audio to play at the frankly. We don't have the time and do we have the trust that you're even going to hear it if I do it. That's an inside joke of anyone literally just discovered this podcast two shows ago. So I can't have a jelly walker. I love this dude. Incredible story. Not short on confidence. Give me Andy Kennedy and the blazers to blaze in to the second round. Of course, we've got a 12 over 5 situation. It's going to happen somewhere at least once. We'll see if it's here. I think it will be. This is a conference USA. I grew up in. It's a conference USA matchup. I was raised in these conference USA streets. I was born in the metro, but I was raised in C USA. I almost did it, but I've taken Houston to win the game. UAB to cover. You can't give jelly walk right in a half points. That's ridiculous. Game four, south regional, number four, Illinois, number 13 Chad anuga, Friday 6 50 p.m. eastern in Pittsburgh. You can watch that on TNT. Illinois, 7 and a half point favorite. Last time nougat. Made the sweet 16 was 25 years ago. 7 and a half. This one is a tricky, tricky number. By the way, we are squeezed for time. GP's got to take a flight, but I'm being told by the bosses. We have a better live number right now by far than any. I will take when GP scoots out of here, I will take a few questions at the end of the show for the live audience because you guys are like a huge number right now. So we are tight. I will do that at the end because GP's got to catch a flight here. I will take Illinois to win. I will take nuga to cover so calm, by the way, Tina's never won a game, see the 13th, a little fact for you. Give me Illinois to win, but Chattanooga to cover this will be close. Game, oh, I got did I pick it? No, Illinois to win Chattanooga to cover. Inflated line. I don't know, I don't know if it actually is, but I agree though. Okay. Game 5, south regional. Number 6 Colorado state. Gets number 11 Michigan Thursday, 1215 P of eastern Indianapolis. You can watch it on CBS. Some funny business going on. Funny business right here, 6 succeed, two and a half point underdog to the 11 seed Michigan wolverines. Funny business. All right, a couple quick notes on this one. You're gonna see at least 5 shots of Ali farook manesh in this game. Why? Because the former northern Iowa legend who be Kansas, the number one overall seed, you know, what is a 12, 13 years ago at this point. He's an assistant at Colorado state. So you will get plenty of you can't be serious with that shot. Coming here in this one, Colorado state finally got a plane. I believe it's on the ground in Indianapolis. I reported that out late Monday night, but they got that done. I am going to go Michigan both and I think it's against my better judgment. I will take Michigan in the spot. Michigan, by the way, with 14 losses, has the most of any team in the field that is a rare situation where the team with the most losses in the field is from a power conference. That is true, but I will go with Michigan because I'm not sure how Colorado state will match up with hunter Dickinson, other GP you can easily retort how will Michigan match up with one David roddy. Nobody matches up with David roddy. You want to play him down by the ram. He's too strong. 6 5 two 50. Oh, you want to get out in space? He'll bounce and pull it on you. Mount west conference player of the year. I'm going Colorado state..

"Talk to me about Houston. I don't hate Houston. What I will say is that Houston threw up enough bricks and they tournament exit last year to build a homeless shelter. It's not the most aesthetically pleasing brand of basketball, but these guys will fight you tooth and nail because Houston unlike most teams that can actually make perimeter jumpers, Houston's best offense is a missed shot coming straight out of the bob huggins playbook. I had to. I know who's in the family. I know he's in the coaching tree. I gotta take as many shots as I possibly can. So you woke Houston up, even if they don't know it. I got a text message during the Cincinnati game that said, man, Houston stinks. And then they just went on forever. They played with a chip on their shoulder, especially in the AC final. I gotta give him credit. They look like a team that was fully pissed off having lost a Memphis twice during the regular season. They were fully engaged wanted to be there and I tipped my hat to a team with a veteran leading group that played with something to play for. So this may shock some people and you did mention the two injuries. If not for those two injuries. We have them power rate better than duke. And you know what? I've seen duke do so. Duke would be curled into the fetal position if they had to face this level of physicality and toughness that Houston would throw at him. So what stinks here is, again, it's two teams that the committee paired against each other that were by teams in Houston and UAB. And yes, you mentioned Houston being down the two key cogs. And it's true, but like sasser and Mark, they've been out since December. So they've kind of lived life without those two. They know what it's like. I do think ultimately those two guys being out is what could prevent a serious serious run. Giving Arizona potentially all they can handle. Now, if you listen to sasser, he's claiming he wants to play at some point in this tournament, has the broken foot typically takes three to four months. It happened three months ago. He's itching to get back. I don't know if it's going to happen. When I look at this game though, you mentioned it. UAB has nothing inside. So it becomes the Jordan walker show. And I don't think Samson with 5 days to repair is going to let a 5 9 guard beat out. That you can shoot. He lets it chuck. He also likes layups to extend leads to 11 with about 11 seconds to go for some undoubtedly. He was hunting 40 that night, buddy. He was hunting 40. He was hunting for 40. And killed the cover. That is certainly true. If you look at Houston, big guards, right? And so you can throw some of those big guards at him. And you look at a Taj Moore who's 6 5 in super long and lanky. And maybe that gives jelly walker some trouble. I would fully expect Samson to trap ball screens here. They rotate very well. If you look at the three games where UAB's face similarly ranked defenses like a South Carolina, like a San Francisco, it like north Texas in the most recent meeting. Those three teams held the UAB to 63 61 and 57. They're all kind of in that same defensive class as Houston, although Houston's a little bit better, but all top 30 defenses and efficiency. Effusion is able to contain gelly walker and have him score like the inefficient 2023 25 with lots of long threes. It's going to be tough to score. And if that's the case, I'm not sure you would be can survive defensively. I mentioned UAB's lack of size. There are 278th and allowing near proximity shots defensively. Houston 6 in the country making near proximity shots. Houston typically dominates this class of opponent. They tend to struggle when they step up and play elite teams. UAB kind of feels like Houston light athletically. The matchup is bad. And if this is a game where one team's chucking contested threes and the other scoring at the rim and you have a couple minute cold streak from jelly walker could put this thing out of touch and God forbid Trey Jameson or KJ boof and get in follow trouble for UAB. And those guys have a tendency to get involved trouble. It could be tough. So I do like, when I look at this, I think the numbers probably a touch inflated to like 8 and a half feels kind of high. We make it about a point lower. I just don't like the matchup. I think it stinks and quite frankly, these are the teams that Houston just embarrasses. And there's really only one punch at this point for UAB. And I just think you have 5 plus days to repair Samson's going to come up with something to make jelly walker. When you look at Houston, what's the ceiling for this team in the tournament? It's a good question. Obviously, I love Houston. I've liked them for many years, probably more than the entire market. I am a fan of Samson. I think he can coach. And we do have Houston power rated better than duke. But unfortunately, I don't think, without sasser and Mark, their style is necessarily a good one to go up against Arizona and think that they have a fighting chance. As you mentioned, a lot of stuff inside a lot of second chance points crashing the offensive glass. When you look at Arizona's height, it probably wouldn't bode overly well and you're looking at an Arizona defense that defends the two very well. They are also top 50 in near proximity defense as well. So that's a tough challenge and ultimately I think when you look at this setup where the committee has absolutely screwed the AAC where an SMU should be in Memphis clearly isn't a 9 in Houston is probably closer to being power rated in the top 5 than an actual 5 seed. They probably get bounced in the sweet 16 round, but had you placed them in the Midwest where we have them power rated much better than a Wisconsin or a Providence. But if you put them in that lower tier of the Midwest and made them a three seed, where Wisconsin is, you could certainly see even Houston without full health, make a final four run. But in terms of the bracket and this is something we probably should have touched on at the top. And ultimately, you've probably heard it a couple of times. We've been doing these podcasts for four or 5, 6, 7 years now. And the evolution of the sports betting content space is very much monkey see monkey do. So people listen to this type of podcast and then go and create their own content and just regurgitate what's set on shows like this. If you are doing a bracket podcast or a bracket pool rather and you are in one with your buddies, you're in one with people.

"Cabo start with you. What first round game in the south regional? Are you most looking forward to? Yeah, I would say probably loyal to Chicago and Ohio State. I think Vegas has it as something pretty close to a pick them and you're talking about in Ohio State team there with EJ Liddell, who's going to be looking for some redemption after they got bounced in the first round by oral Roberts last season back when the buckeyes were a two seat then they come in as a 7 seed this season and they've lost four out of their last 5. So I think loyal of Chicago is going to be a pick for a lot of just common folks out there filling in the bracket just based off a name recognition at this point, but I'm real curious to see if EJ Liddell can secure some redemption for the way that oil Roberts game ended last season. Chip? I know we've got to give respect, give some respect to Chris holtman, right? We need to give him, I guess. He doesn't get enough. He doesn't get enough, but he also doesn't have a lot of deep NCAA tournament runs. It's just, you know, just gonna throw that out there as we're talking about respect for Ohio State. I'll tell you what, the number one thing that I'm looking to check in on. And again, this is because I think the result will influence so much of how the entire bracket breaks. But Illinois Chattanooga is just such a fun game. And I think that when I look at Chattanooga and we see that the way that the mocks have played, we see that they're going to find themselves clearly at a disadvantage at trying to take care of Kofi coburn in general, but I think that that is a Chattanooga team that if Illinois plays down the way that Illinois has played down at times this season, then they potentially could be upset. Illinois at its ceiling could be the team that comes out of this region and makes it all the way to the final four and because I'm looking at a high variance team capable of a deep run, but one that also based on the worst of its basketball in the last month or so could get bounced. That four 13 Illinois Chattanooga game is a lot of my attention. My favorite ones Houston UAB. It's a 12 5 matchup. Houston, the outright AAC champions, Houston won the AAC tournament. Houston's top 5 in basically all computers, but only a 5 C because they really didn't get much done in the regular season in terms of big wins. I believe, as of this moment, they've got one quadrant one win, and it is Sunday's win over Memphis. David Cobb, do we believe in the Houston cougars or do we think jelly walker? Got a chance to upset him. He's a bucket. Jordan walker, name to know. Certainly a bucket in the south region. I've actually got UAB one in this. I think point spreads. This is the biggest upset, not just in my south region, but in my entire 60 18 bracket for the first round is UAB as a 12 and 8 and a half point favorite per the line that I picked today on CBS sports dot com excuse me, Houston in 8 and a half points every day. I think UAB wins the game straight up. It just feels to me like a team of destiny. They want a three overtime game and the C USA tournament semifinals. And then you're talking about a Houston team and we've been beating this drum all year to their credit. They've overcome it repeatedly, but those injuries at some point to market faster and trade on Mark have to catch up with Houston. And I just feel like this is a program that will eventually or pretty soon make another deep NCAA tournament run. I just can't look at this Houston roster with it in its current health condition and see a team that's going to do anything in this tournament. And perhaps I'll be lambasted in a few days for sleeping on Kelvin Sampson, who has done a phenomenal job this season with the hand he's been dealt, but I don't see Houston making a whole lot of noise in this bracket. I'm with you. And listen, my respect level for Kelvin Sampson is well documented. I think he's probably one of the 5 to ten best coaches in the sport. What he has built at Houston relative to what he took over, incredible. But here's the truth. There's not a team in the country that could lose two of his top four players and you would still think they're going to have a deep run in the NCAA tournament. The reason it really didn't impact Houston season regular season too much is because who was going to be them. Memphis? Memphis the only team that could just out talent them really, even after they lost two of the top four players. The American the season was just not very good outside of Houston, Memphis, and SMU, I guess. So missing to your top four players in the American athletic conference, if you're Kelvin sanson in Houston, that's how great he is. He could still walk through that pretty much without issue, but now you've got to walk through a bracket where you're running into real teams that are capable of beating you. I'm not insisting UAB will will be the team that does it. But I will be surprised if Houston is in the sweet 16. Before we go into the key element to that game, is three point shooting. Houston, one of the best three point shooting defenses in the country. UAB by percentage, one of the best three point shooting teams in the country. So Houston's three point defense, they allow opponents to shoot like 29% from three. Houston shoots about UAB shoots about 38% from three. Anyway, if you can hit threes, they're going to win that game. That's where it all comes down to because Houston's strength is defending the three. UAB is strength is hitting the three. Do we see any unlikely suite 16 teams here? We're going to get to that next, but real quick, let me remind you about our bracket challenge game. We want you to compete with us. So do it. I'm going to be in there, norlander, Cal Boone, David Cobb chip, Patterson. You can join at CBS sports dot com slash CBS I on brackets. That's.

"Really do. When I look at this region, other opportunities, yeah, there are opportunities for upsets, but I look at this and I say Arizona's got a pretty good path. I think their biggest challenge is potentially could be Illinois. Obviously, the mountain mass gradient is a man known as Kofi coburn, Tennessee, the SEC champions who maybe get up and underneath them. But when I look at this bracket and obviously Villanova who just wears you down with their toughness in their culture, what your guys take on to bracket. Well, I think Arizona has got a very good path at the top of the bracket. And that's really what you have to worry about initially. So if they beat the winner of right state and Bryant and Bryant has the nation's leading Sequoia and Peter kiss, who Bill we're after he would have loved. The kiss kiss with the kiss. And then they would, if they advance there, which I expect them to advance, they get the winner of seat and hall TCU and as well as TCU has played. I like seton hall. I think seton hall's got a great chance to win that game. But Arizona's better. And they can play at different tempos. They're better defensively. I think the Houston UAB game is interesting with jelly walker, scoring so many points and being so dynamic and unafraid against a Houston team that has dealt with injuries, but they're big and they're good defensively. But the bottom of the bracket is a black and blue region. Because there are so many so many teams that can play really good defense and they can be physical. I think the upset in that the bottom half of the bracket is loyal to Chicago, Ohio State. Ohio State's better, but better doesn't always win against loyal Chicago because they're so hard nosed and so good defensively and so I favor loyal to Chicago to win that game. Yeah, they upset I see you there and it's not really an upset because it's Michigan, Colorado state. David roddy and Isaiah Stevens are two terrific players. Stevens, a terrific guard that can do so much off to dribble, David ride is 6 5 6 6, 255 pound undersized power forward that can do just about everything out there on the floor. But hunter Dickinson is hard to guard to deal with and guard. They have no one who can match up with him. And with him starting to make that little 15 foot jump shot from the foul line makes it difficult to match up for them. Yeah, I'm all over the 6 11s. I have every 6 11. I got the 11 when it all four of them. And I think Michigan is one of those. I think that Caleb used some starting to play a little bit better than take better care of the basketball. Just in talking to coaches in the mountain west and say the one thing about cholera state is a struggle with real size and let's face it. Dickinson is real size. Disagree a little bit, you know, just with Loyola Houston, I think he's a toss up. Alkyl random to me, if he can embrace his first NCAA tournament, maybe his only NCAA tournament, obviously we know how good EJ Liddell is their guards just got to show up..

"Houston or Illinois, although I won't rule jelly walker and UAB out. Well, I don't know, man. Houston COVID stamps. And I hear what you're saying, but I still call them Samsung made fun of four year ago. Illinois and the four line and they seem played each other earlier this year and Arizona, Illinois. I have some tournament history. I don't know. I think that we have some work cut out for them. We've got to see how healthy Kirk creases too, that's a factor. Sure. I think the latest reporting is they hope he will be available for the NCAA tournament, but hopes a long way from. I'm certain he'll be available. That is a factor, although they just won the pec to have tournament. Beat you to LA without him. But Houston, anybody who lets this podcast knows how much I respect Kelvin Sampson. I think he's one of the best 5 to ten coaches in college basketball. In terms of just give him a roster and he'll make it good. But like he lost two players in December and, you know, I think that started to show up as the AAC schedule unfolded to get a beat twice by Memphis. They did then beat Memphis in the American title game. So that was impressive. I just think that they're going to ultimately be a player short somewhere along the way. Like I would be more, I would be more surprised by Houston beating Arizona, eliminating Arizona. I'd be more surprised by that than I would be UAB upsetting Houston. I feel like I feel like Houston losing the UAB might be a bit trendy. I like Houston there. Very fun region. I love this corner of the bracket there on the bottom half. We talked about Tennessee plenty of Colorado state Michigan is your first tip at 1215 on Thursday on CBS when we get to the first round proper. So that's going to be what everyone was tuning into to start. And I'm sure Michigan is going to have to be picked plenty in that. Colorado state is just a more dependable team, although that's a contrast and big, so you got David roddy, small ball 5 does everything against hunter Dickinson. Those are those are two players designated centers that don't look the same and don't do the same stuff. So I love that match up there. How about Chris holtman man? He's a 7 seed and he's got a face. He's got a face Loyola loyal the lines were obviously not out when the bracket got revealed. I said it on HD loyal is going to be a favorite in that game and sure and lo and behold it is. It was 1.5 when I went off the air. I don't know if that line is going to move by the time people listen to this on Monday or not. But that's a case where I don't have an issue with oil on the ten line. There's one thing for what you did on your resume versus what you were on the metrics that we listen. We caved up for loyal Chicago last season. We said it was unseated. I'm fine with it being attend this year. It's just a bad break for Ohio State. You know, you lose as a year ago, you want at least get a win and kind of a tone for that. Now you go up against, frankly, just a really, really tough match up there. So we'll see, you know, how they still banged up. It doesn't have a full roster available. But I believe it will be in a better spot by the time it's got to play that game. And then yeah, novella or nova has a two there, no huge issue with me overall. I could see Arizona, Villanova, Tennessee, Illinois, getting out of this. I could see any of the top four being the representative about a south when I get to New Orleans. How about this at the end of our bracket breakdown show tonight? You know, final block CBS Sports Network. I think there were 6 analysts, me, Wally Serbia, Pete gillen, Chris walker, Sheldon Mack John rothstein. And, you know, it's just, you know, we got 90 seconds left and bridged over and Adam Zucker, TS up on, picked the win the national championship. Four of the 6 said Arizona, two trendy. It's getting too trendy, my man. It's getting too trappy. I think in zaga, Chris walker said, Kentucky. And or shelvin Mack said Kentucky. And I believe everybody else said Arizona. So, you know, take it for what it's worth. This region's tough, man. You've got the PAC 12 tournament, impact 12 outright champion in Arizona. You got the AAC, regular season champ, and tournament champ in Houston. You've got the SEC tournament champ in Tennessee and the biggies tournament champ in Villanova. So four of the top 7 or 8 conferences in the country, their tournament champions are in this region. Feels noisy to me. It feels like a noisy one. Let's go down to the Midwest. Kansas is the number one seed. Auburn is the number two C, Wisconsin is the three Providence is the four, and you mentioned that you thought Murray state San Francisco was the must watch game of around a.

"Why UAB? For all the reasons you outlined there and I don't want to be the numbers guy that every year there's a 12 over 5. And what I do hate is the next matchup we're talking about four 13. I also like the underdog and then you have to go all in on your underdog winning two games and take UAB there. I think Jordan walker can give them fits and that's why I think they'll sleep on by. I think it would be closer. It's the very least they're going to lose by less than 8 and a half points. That's how I feel. The UAB thing is that they're actually pretty big. They can play both big and small, like Trey jemison, is a kid that started to climb in and is now like a 23 year old or 22 year old starting center at UAB. KJ buffin as a kid that started it, Mississippi, if I remember correctly, was really good. I thought he was like kind of a sneaky NBA prospect at one point. It just hasn't quite developed that way, but it's still like a really good fourth year player in college, basketball. And then jelly walkers obviously just an awesome guard from New York who played it tulane and then transferred to UAB. So I am very interested in that one. I think that's going to be that's going to be a really fun game to watch for an upset. Yeah, a lot of people are picking this Chattanooga Illinois upset. I don't know, I don't quite love that one as much as everyone else. Can you make the pitch for me on Chattanooga? So I didn't do I watched their conference championship game and the thing that stuck out is that I knew he was there, but I'm excited for America's reaction to being like, is that Silvio de Souza? Like, what did we get Kansas? Like, how is he still there? How old is he? He was like 11 and 7..

"Bubble team that got a win. I break it down like this. In terms of bubble teams, the winners Arkansas, wake forest, beaten Florida state, you call FSC a loser. The demon deakins will lead this week's court report on Wednesday just so you know scheduled to talk with Steve Forbes and give the best wake forest even more than a decade, some overdue love. Oregon winning at Utah, doctors still bubble team, they got to win. Notre-Dame, playing itself nicely into the tournament picture. One 69 57 at NC state. And I thought Florida hanging on an OT at home against old mystery P was highly significant for the Gators. They were down 9 at the half, got Colin castleton back. He had 17 and 7. That was certainly significant. The losers outside of I mentioned LSU, West Virginia. Miami lost at Virginia. Certainly notable. Miami is floating near that cut line. SMU, trying to get into the picture, losing by 15 at Wichita state. That's not going to help matters for the ponies or the American athletic conference. TCU kind of quietly lost at home by 12 to case state, horn frogs, got a Dodge that kind of stuff, if you're gonna try and make your second tournament in two decades, Oklahoma now drifting onto the bubble has already drifted, but bubble team supreme lost in bedlam, Oklahoma state, Mike boyton's team got an important win in a year where they can't get to the postseason and then creighton lost his seat in hall. That's a good bubble for the hall, bad for creighton. I did want to mention Friday night, first of all, before I mentioned the game, just real quick 'cause we talked offline. Did you go and see that concert Friday or no? No. I just couldn't. I was tired and I had work to do. And so on Friday night for people who are not keeping track with my personal life, I got stuck in New York. I couldn't get back home because I ice and Memphis. I was supposed to fly home Thursday morning. I didn't actually get home until Saturday afternoon, said two extra nights in New York. And Friday night, I had kind of free. I ended up I worked and then I went and got dinner and then I came back to the room and tried to shut my brain off a little bit and I just watched a first three episodes of payment Tommy on Hulu. No idea what that is. All right, sounds good. Careful Anderson and Tommy Lee. Oh, the Doc. Okay, there we go. It's not a dock. Oh, it's an actual series. Okay. It's great. I'm going to have to take your word for that one, my friend. What? You never watched the payment Tommy Lee tape? I did not. I did not. Scout's honor on my children's life. Never watch that. So yeah, no. Did that happen? Where were you in 1995? 95, I was, I was 14 freshman in high school. Perhaps I was the prime demographic, but tucked away up in the northwest corner of Vermont, south Burlington shouts, did not factor into my life. I'm aware of it and I was aware of it. Holy crap, how did we get onto this? What I did on my Friday night was watch some TV with the wife. And then Colorado state San Diego state. Just got to note this. Colorado state dodged losing three consecutive games. Was up by 20 points in the second half and then San Diego state came all the way back, took the lead with 14 seconds to go. No timeouts called would have been one of the worst collapses I've seen from any team in the past decade among the 5 or 6 worst I've seen, but David roddy, save the day. Hit a winner from like 16 feet out from the elbow with 6 seconds to go. CSU gets the win. I think that's the better result for the conference on the whole. We both think CSU and San Diego state are both going to eventually get into the tournament. I'll also note, we talked about Fresno state on the Friday pod. Utah state is also involved in this at this point. So you tell state one again trying to squeeze in a little bit of love for everyone that deserves it after a kind of a recount of a weekend. You tell states 15 to 9, 34th and ten pound has won 5 straight, this is Ryan Odom coaching this team. I'm thinking, wait a second. How do I know that name? How do he coach UMBC when they beat Virginia? This is his first season with the aggies and inherited a solid roster situation Justin beans awesome. They want it home over UNLV. There is a Tuesday night game with Utah state at Wyoming. If you toss date wins that game at Wyoming, mountain west is going to be building a stronger case, believe it. Believe it. 5 teams, it's conceivable. I think four is getting very close to probable and likely. Everything else that you mentioned there. Yeah, LS used in serious trouble. Texas tech winning at West Virginia West Virginia is in serious trouble. Yukon lost against nova. Villain was beating Yukon 5 consecutive games. It was kind of a reminder. I thought it was a reminder game parents of Villanova San like, don't forget where the big kid in the room here. And we'll see how the Providence nova race plays out. And then Purdue, how about this? Purdue became the first program in victim history to win a thousand conference games. I had no idea until it happened. Matt painter also won his 400th game. And then all the big game that you didn't mention was USC Arizona is actually good. USC led deep into the second half and then Arizona flipped it late. They wound up winning by 9 USC went one of 15 to close the game. You did not have the Trojans on your list of teams. You could see cutting down the nets. I agree. I think I got to agree with you on that. Although I do think that USC is a viable final four contender, don't know if I can see that team actually pulling together 6 consecutive wins in the way that they couldn't capitalize after playing a good game against Arizona late kind of speaks to that a little bit Texas also won 63 41 at Iowa state. It was the largest margin of victory by Texas against ISU in more than a decade. And then lastly, some love for the guys who went for 40 plus and a couple of people. Affiliated with these seems to reach out. I promise I'd give him a shout. Three, 40 point scores on Saturday. Jelly walker, 42 for UAB and the win over middle Tennessee. You may be, I'm telling you right now, you want like a true viable sweet 16 dark horse Cinderella type right now before it like march gets here and there's buzz. If you have to get to the tournament, it can win a couple of games. Jalen house for New Mexico got 42 against the air force and then Ben shepherd of Belmont at 41 in a come from behind OT when which significant for Belmont to beat Tennessee state. So I think that pretty much covers it. Man, I wish Saturday would have been better. Tons of games, but just not a lot of drama. What do we need to know about Monday Tuesday on the schedule? Good point. All right, so Monday, you got Virginia at duke. I had to do an issue hit earlier on Sunday GP. They asked me for my 15 second bold statement. You're familiar with the oh, I know how to make bold statements. You are familiar with the bold statement. My bold statement was that duke's gonna come back after just destroying you and see on the road and win close late and get a real push from Virginia at home. Agree or disagree with anybody by fewer than 5 points. Where's the gaming play? Cameron. Fewer than 5 points. That was my bold statement. Two wins the game by two 5. No, no, no, no, no, you're wrong. It was cold but wrong. Okay. It was bald and I'm probably gonna be wrong. You got Kansas at Texas. 9 eastern on.

"Do. I think it makes some sense there. But Kenny Payne would be. My guess as of today is Kenny Payne. A lot of people are going to push for Kenny Payne to get that job. And I think Kenny Payne was one. Well, this is what somebody in the industry told me is that it doesn't have a full-time president right now. It doesn't have a full time athletic director right now. And that could leave a void where former players alums have a big voice that can influence. And if that's the case, it could lead to Kenny Payne. Actually get in the job. I agree with you, by the way. I would take a serious look at steep Forbes as well. And I think Forbes is closer and I'm not speaking for anybody. I'm just strictly looking at the workforce a hard job. That's one, that's one that seems gettable to me. Kevin willer seems gettable to me. Kenny Payne obviously gettable. And I think in the infield maybe. I feel like Anfield's got more buzz from Maryland right now. Yes, from that area. I'm not saying that he's going to Maryland. He's the final. If Andy infield leaves, I see Marilyn more likely. Like Andy until like, you gotta, there's a lot that comes with the Louisville job. I say there's even more that comes with the Louisville job in the Maryland job. And I don't know if Andy Enfield it's like a really good fit for Louisville. But I don't know. By the way, USC lost, not that this matters whatsoever, but just as a note, USC lost at home and has actually was swept by Stanford this season. Didn't see that coming late night, West Coast result there, Trojans dropped one against. And hit field and Kevin willer both Owen wants this little job open. It's not good, actually seeing the husband kind of on a downturn there. That's all somebody tweet that at the game the other night when marquette was bombing them a fan yell. Take the Louisville job, Kevin. Which is like John Fanta was doing. That was really great. Which is mean. It circles back to that. That's me. Don't do that. Andy and Phil might not be gettable, but more gettable than say Mick cronin, who's also in Southern California because I made lots of reasons. But do you really leave UCLA? The year before Mario Bailey's mom shows up. Okay. I don't know if you do. It's something you gotta think about. She thick boy. She thick. Before we get to final four and one, just a couple of quick Thursday night notes I wanted to hit on because there were some WCC noise. Saint Mary's erased a 23 point deficit to beat San Francisco on the road. It's not good for the Dons. Johnson now dropped games at home against saint Mary's. The BYU was the other one. I think that's 6. 7 played Gonzaga yet. Not good. Todd golden's team thought to be an NCAA tournament team. They got to play BYU on the road upcoming, and they're going to need to steal probably one or two against BYU saint Mary. So great job on saint Mary's comeback, but that was I know you're sleeping. So I'm actually informing you as much as I might think. No, I'm aware of everything you're saying, but yes, I was sleeping. Okay, fair enough. Santa Clara, also in the WCC. Santa Clara won on a buzzer beater. A guy named Jalen Williams. Big time. Yeah, like 20 plus points in that game. There were 22 lead changes. 12 ties and the game was actually tied for 8 minutes and 25 seconds of game time. The lead was never larger than four points on either side. This qualifies is actually one of the best games of the season. The leads never more than four for either team, 22 times. It's the lead changed. That's phenomenal. Good on Santa Clara. That's a home win. BYU takes a loss there. Four bit WCC, maybe just in a little bit of peril. And oh, by the way, UAB won again. Dude named jelly walker. How much that name? Jelly, walker. Winning shot, closing seconds on CBS Sports Network. Andy Kennedy's team is 7 and one in conference USA 17 and four overall. And while it does have work to do if you may be can get to selection Sunday with only 5 losses and that's not an automatic bid, it's going to be an at large. If it's only 5 if it's 6, we'll have to wait and see UAB is actually lost too, the San Francisco Dons, but just a couple of off rate I wanted to give a little bit of mid major love and oh by the way, the Taos and Delaware game on Thursday got suspended because there were unsafe. The middle of the game. No, no, no, middle of the game they stopped. Towson, Delaware, suspended due to unsafe playing conditions. 1842 to go in the game, Delaware's up 38 29, they're going to resume it at a future date. So this is like a once every 5 years kind of thing where for whatever reason, a game gets going and then it has to stop in the middle. Maybe even more than that. Once every 7 to 8 to ten years, but keep your eyes peeled for that Towson Delaware resumption, blue hen's going to be holding his 38 29 lead literally for days if not weeks. So that's Thursdays to know, oh, by the way, for do one big set one..
