Feds subpoena up to 20 officers at NYC prison where Jeffrey Epstein killed himself
"Sex offender jeffrey app scene was found dead in his federal jail cell nearly two weeks ago and we still do not have a good picture picture what exactly happened. We do know that scene signed a new will two days before his death. According to the new york post putting an estate worth more than half a billion dollars into a trust. I which almost certainly will make it harder for his victims to sue for damages we also know the department of justice was in charge of keeping him alive and the man in charge of that attorney general william bar said he's angry about epstein's death. He just removed the acting director of the federal bureau of prisons both the d._o._j. And the f._b._i. Are investigating up scenes death but there are a jail workers who are refusing to cooperate with investigators near times reports federal prosecutors have now subpoenaed roughly fifteen employees of the metropolitan correctional national center and according to the washington post. There were at least eight jail officials who knew epstein was not to be left alone in his cell reporter who landed that scoop devlin barrett. The washington post is here with me now. What do we know about what directions were given who knew what about the protection of jeffrey epstein inside that facility well what we're told is there's a key moment in this process where jeffrey epstein is taken off suicide watch. This happens on july twenty ninth and what we're told about that process is that it was very clear inside the m._c. Not just among lower level officials but their supervisors as well that there were things that were supposed to happen once he was taken off suicide aside watch one that he would be checked on every half hour. That's a standard in the unit. He was placed in into that there was an understanding that he would have a cellmate at all times the reason for that is you want another pair of eyes on him. Who could holler out if something's going wrong <hes> so that's what was supposed to happen in part of the concern and frustration by the attorney general now there's here is everyone seems to have understood what was supposed to happen and then it just did not happen. Do we know why didn't happen well. That's a great question so you know among the union officials. The union officials have argued that you know they are so short staffed in so overworked that something thing like this was bound to happen not necessarily with jeffrey in particular but something like this was always bound to happen in that place at this time with so few people working <hes> <hes> frankly there are folks in the justice department who think that's a poor excuse for for letting what's our you'll be the most high-profile defendant in your entire system kill himself but that is part of the conversation that's going on and
Buckingham Palace, Jeffrey And Andrew discussed on Gary and Shannon
"So the palace is once again on the defensive Buckingham Palace all over this Jeffrey abstain prince Andrew situation well a huge document dump right a couple Fridays ago all about that defamation lawsuits between Virginia Roberts this seventeen year old woman who claims she was a sex slave for Jeffrey up steam and people are still going through all the documents or what's in there and slowly little bits are trickling out here and most recently it was the information by the pilot the pilots David Rogers is sixty six and he was the pilot on Jeffrey abstains private jet I have a question I want to know more about that guy yeah because he's like a Dottie Sandusky he was flying that plane he was living in that house and he probably had that door polder the curtain pole right he knew what was going on willing to overlook this right for the money he flew the chat he also talked about having seen some very high profile guests on this child rape airplane child rape air president Clinton Naomi Campbell Kevin Spacey a number of times now in this one specifically he talks about the the woman who was involved in this original lawsuit are really miss got free right Jeffrey it turns out that the deposition is among the court documents that we've been talking about like like a Shannon just mention this is the first time that both prince Andrew in Virginia Joffrey work on EPS teens that at Jack at the same time now that the pilot said that I was very careful to say listen I was in the car you know why in with my yoke I didn't see anything going on back well I don't know if anything bad happen I don't know if he said that but he all they say is that he did not accuse prince Andrew of any wrongdoing on the flights so I don't know if he said I didn't see anything he certainly didn't say I saw prince Andrew doing anything but why would he was flying the plane Virginia Roberts Jeffrey is this woman's name sure I think her Roberts is her maiden name and Jeffrey's now her married name that's why it's a slightly confusing but Jeffrey I've seen prince Andrew gill lane Maxwell and this young woman wore passengers on a flight from New Jersey down to Saint Thomas to go to Pat a file island had a file island now why would prince Andrew be on the flight to a file island if he wasn't engaging and peta file things or at the very least ladies and let's say he wasn't engaging in it but he knew what was going on I was happening under his nose that's the part that was also report yesterday that I read it prince Andrew would defend Jeffrey apps dean in yelling fights with friends who would say to him Hey you got to cut ties with this Jeffrey Epstein character he is bad news and he's a registered sex offender any was convicted of raping girls and prince Andrew would say something along the lines of you don't know him like I know him see and it's that kind of behavior at that points to him engaging in the same child rape stuff that that obscene was I mean him on the flights now in the flight logs as being passengers to that island coupled with the video that came out over the weekend it showing him in twenty ten to years after everyone knew I've seen was a child rapist in his home in New York is bad for the palace this is the guy that's forth from the throne and they had to release another statement disputing the pilots claims the statement said the evidence statement was submitted in a case in which the Duke was not a party and which any suggestion of impropriety with underage minors is categorically untrue the statement shows a number of inconsistencies between the dukes alleged location and its actual location when checked with the court circular in some cases he's on different continents prove it okay well here's a here's the other part of that the woman who gave this deposition her lawsuit was not contemporary wasn't done in two thousand one so I find it very likely that you're gonna be able to trip up on some dates like that I mean this woman was said to be what nineteen years old at the time that she was super seventeen years old I think when she was on these flights what what do you remember what you were doing on a Tuesday and when you were seventeen years old no but I wasn't getting raped on a jet by billionaires I think if I was then maybe it would stick in my brain a little bit more for that scrambled your brain even more you were unwilling to to remember those those states I don't now a different different impacts on

"Jeffrey apps the accused of child sex trafficking allow me to be clear it isn't really guilty sure guilty of child sex trafficking the only question is to whom to where the children being trafficked who knew what when where why and how who procured the girls for him was this design Maxwell was of somebody else who was doing what who was paying what who had notes on whom these the questions this would be investigations about that's what they went down to the island and took all the the information that they could this is why William Barr the Attorney General's letting you know that the investigation is going to continue demonstrated should continue anybody associate has to go to jail has to be out of the public guy can't be allowed to hold any position prominence I don't care who they are president's ex presidents media celebrities **** forget him you lose everything you're involved in child sex trafficking this is the single most file an important detainee possibly in America you have to guard Saddam a guy on suicide watch who for whatever reason you take off suicide watch he gets bed sheets back although I want to do more confirmation on that the two guards are actually guards one's a guard one is the guy I don't know there was a temp agency you know don't mind working overnights we got the job for you inside of the federal bureau of prisons there in Manhattan the metropolitan correctional center which is basically a dumpster fire of a location people seem to have known that I didn't care this is where Jeffrey I've seen as a sign and the guards fall asleep they fell asleep before he died and then realizing they fell asleep they made some notes on the log to show that they checked on him and the other inmates when it didn't actually happen Tony Katz turning cats today eight three three got Tony eight three three four six eight eight six six nine that's the number of have you got to be a part of the show this is ugly as ugly two guards have been suspended the warden has been temporarily reassigned wow that's great that's great work what what I see on Twitter that's like shutting the barn door after the horse died right that's that's what it is what what you've already you've already lost you've already done the things that you can't do now you want to part with food like freaky because that's the part right so that's the gross negligence conversation there's an interesting one two punch one from reason dot com one from human events where reason dot com says listen it's very possible that this is just the grosses of gross negligence all that is possible in his death and then human events is like that is too much gross negligence for it to be just gross negligence is really interesting like that's how people see it really this is just incompetence on incompetence on top how many times have you been involved in some type business transaction and you turn to somebody else if you like how does anything it done around here I have this conversation my my parents still work right day my my father doesn't play golf he works he has a he has a a small business and he works from his his dining room basically he gets up he has breakfast many walks into it's like a converted to I I dining room or or or converted bedroom it's it's the office couple computers and files and lord only knows what this is when my father passed away my father's eighty one my father passes away I'm gonna take a week off just to go through the paperwork lord only knows what is where and should be for a long time that say say say say you at your mom to annoy you just go to it but I I anytime I call him but that hasn't been done these people don't know anything people don't even know how their own work is and everything that goes wrong it's not their fault they don't take responsibility for anything it's just amazing and you have these conversations it's absolutely true it's it's stunning how anything gets done it's stunning that that that we had this level of gross negligence that allow Jeffrey obscene to kill himself but there comes a moment we say well well this is just too much gross negligence this is not this is more than just the thing to add to that according to CBS news there were screams and shrieks coming from his jail cell I'm sorry I don't know what to do with that information usually I have some really cool kind of sounder screams and shrieks of streets this is all too frightening and they keep calling an apparent suicide they haven't ruled out the fact that somebody kill them he Terry generals gonna tell is gonna tell us they're gonna get to bottom of it and then there's gonna be accountability but can't just be that people get reassigned it can't just be the people get it you know suspended people lose their jobs and lose their pensions I've been saying this I must say it again they have to not only lose their jobs and go to jail they have to lose their pensions they had one job and they're not willing or capable of doing the one job well then they don't get the resultant of it they don't get the thing that made the job for them financially worthwhile because they didn't do the thing the warden shouldn't get a pension these two guys and they were supposed to get pension shouldn't get them nothing so enjoy working at dairy queen of our dairy queen a when Hiram at all you know that blizzard isn't gonna work there turn the thing upside down it's gonna fall guaranteed or your money back that's going to happen speaking of taking responsibility shots fired into the San Antonio ice office now this is the first time and I thought this is been attacked him seems important other places Donna immigration customs Forsman July twelfth Aurora Colorado July fourteenth come Washington July sixteenth watch in DC August thirteenth San Antonio Texas one shot penetrating the window they don't have bullet proof glass I know this happened at three AM Tuesday morning in San Antonio Texas the ice field office responding this attack they do this on Twitter at the US immigration kozulin Forsman and removal operations field office in San Antonio is completely without justification political rhetoric right stand Bible who is a field office director there in San Antonio political rhetoric and misinformation that various politicians media outlets and activist groups recklessly disseminate to the American people regarding the ice mission only served to further encourage these violent acts translation you people keep screaming about eyes in wanting to dismantle ice maybe you represent of a copy of Cortez have some culpability here now let's say you go with the argument that all you can't you can't talk about somebody's rhetoric in being responsible for someone pulling the trigger I take you back just a few days to center Kamel Harris I on an annual basis published the hate crimes report so I will tell you this stuff is not new in our country it's certainly predates the election of Donald Trump but it has also increased under Donald Trump and you know he's he's been feeling the flames of hate and but you know I've said recently you know on the issue of of el Paso you know now when people ask me is the responsible for those killings I mean how to sit and pull the trigger but he's sure been tweeting out the ammunition with Andy anymore this is not to blame but is to blame so if this is now our logic if this is now what is well then represent Mukasey Cortez is to blame I went back into some my own records some of my own old shows and I've talked about this before where I don't think there is anything wrong with saying and that words can incite I don't disagree with that I actually believe that to be true the difference is what you do with the words the person who is being incited wants to be inside it and they have lost connection to their faculties if you will in being able to be make the difference between I'm angry and I'm going to shoot someone I'm going to attack someone I'm going to be violent towards some thing we know that radicalization works online we know that ISIS works the dark web we understand that they are able to indoctrinate people in that way radicalize people in that way we know it can happen we know that it's possible the issue certainly is that ISIS wants radicalize people but the issue is also that people want to be radicalized that's the issue we know that there are people out there who listen to represent a Mukasey Cortez and this a multiplicity of Democrats talking about how evil eyes is and somebody mostly decides Hey I'm going to I do something about this because I shouldn't be allowed to exist hi this is the problem we can have ice some of the ideas something about ice let's get let's do something about it on around that's absolutely possible I'm not saying that it makes them right and I'm not saying that it's represented because he Cortez the pulled any trigger we scream a lot about I just being able you already have an entirety of of a fan base if you will there's been taught by a media apparatchiks that troubles us evil person in the world all these other groups are evil and you add to the long someone Accel maybe we should be having a conversation about whether or not we're disagreeing with people or whether or not we're putting people up as the enemy I mean let's ask all represented by on a Presley Democrat of Massachusetts well they're not were creating enemies out of our political opponents when the person is mentally ill with the person is inspired by somebody or just lashing out the gun is the common factor what do you think America can do about people's easy access to guns okay well first I want to say that yes in terms of a common factor in the "Continue to prove to pursue this right so having to do that well not against Jeffrey apps have the sleaze so there is the potential of conspiracy charges which means conspiracy charges against co conspirator so the reason that prosecutors to put out a statement saying look if you're a victim we still want you to come forward we still want you to bring us information is because that could help to the extent that there's any one else who could be charged for related crimes essentially aiding and abetting what Jeffrey abstain was doing to someone like killing Maxwell who's been accused of being his madam exactly now there is a big question mark over that because if they had enough evidence about any of those co conspirators why did they wait why didn't we seen indictment prior to that so I think there's maybe some hope by prosecutors that one now that people one have any fear of retribution because abstinence died maybe more people come forward maybe they'll feel like we have to get justice in some way but that's the only way that a criminal case could go for right and so is there any way that the prosecution can now get any kind of evidence or communication between that happened between abstain and his lawyers so the attorney client privilege survives the death and so probably not with some exceptions I mean courts have allowed you to have a loud attorneys to provide information for instance if it's needed for a will contest or to prove what you meant in your trust but I don't think that that's likely what's likely is that there is evidence that was in a grand jury there's evidence that I think is subject to FOIA requests I don't know that the public will ever see all of the evidence that was going to be put forward in this case but there are other cases there are civil cases I'm have already started against Jeffrey up steam for instance for defamation there could be civil cases against as a state that's why some attorneys have said the state don't pay everybody out please freeze the assets because people might train get some vindication that way Brian we don't even know what his assets are everything has been shrouded in mystery we don't know but that could be a way to find out which is if there's money there it might ultimately have to be paid to some victims alright let's turn to another story now conservative activist group called judicial watch is suing California over its brand new law that requires at least one woman to sit on corporate boards of publicly traded companies that are headquartered here in California this is a first in the nation law I believe and so in the loss of this group is saying that using taxpayer money to enforce this law is illegal how is it illegal under their argument so first in the nation but not first in the world this at why was actually modeled after some loss in the European Union and so what they're saying is they basically have to say taxpayer dollars were misused because it's a taxpayer suing so that's the way they have standing essentially to say like here's a person who's hurt this is the right person to walk into court their argument boils down to this violates the equal protection clause because you're treating women different from men and essentially creating a different category and quota to ensure that a certain number of women will sit on these boards and what they're saying is the equal protection clause it doesn't just protect minorities it doesn't just protect women it goes both ways that says treat people equally how is this different from affirmative action so it in some ways it looks a lot like affirmative action affirmative action in the way that we've understood it when it comes to for instance universities or colleges is different in the sense that you don't really have these strict quotas or you get a fine by the state government instead what it allows is for colleges and universities to have as one factor of their admissions process increasing diversity of the campus but certainly this has been hotly debated their other legal issues dealing with essentially whether or not the government can reach into private corporations even if they're publicly traded and if there's a corporation's code issue here in the sense can you reach in and say you are forced to have these people on your board if forced to have certain gender diversity on your board or else you face a fine now of course but they're all sorts of things that corporations are forced to do like it here to environmental laws minimum wage laws all sorts of labor laws so pay taxes now yes so the question when it comes to the government basically forcing private actors to do anything is whether or not when we're kind of balancing like government power versus private power is there a good reason to do it and is there any statute in place which would say the private corporation has essentially free reign over this like you as a private corporation are publicly traded corporation you've to pay taxes you have to give a certain amount of leave for people to care for either infants are so sick family members but you have control over who's on your board we don't tell you that that's part of the question here okay and finally California's effort to automate voter registration through the DMV the motor voter law is facing yet another scandal the LA times reporting that DMV offices produce more than eighty thousand duplicate records and that there were something like two hundred thousand documents with mistakes on them how did this happen oops is so well let's take a step back and say why do we have this law at all so where you have a lot of states in the nation that are kind of pulling back on voting rights saying we're going to reduce early voting we're not gonna have as many voting centers we're going to increase requirements like say the you need a voter ID in California were doing the opposite and we've been doing that for quite a while we were trying to essentially drac almost drag people to the polls in the this law is about automatically registering people to vote so that when you get your ID card from the DMV for your driver's license you have to opt out in order to not be registered to vote which of course means you're much more likely to be registered right we also allow for pre registration when you're sixteen and seventeen and so the idea is well let's just make it simple you're already essentially having an interaction with the state government so when you go in there why have this whole extra staff now the problems have obviously been numerous John Myers from the LA times has been reporting on this in great detail and essentially it sounds like the infrastructure just wasn't in place that there were too many different state agencies trying to talk to each other but talking in different languages and being in silos that didn't interact and so we have a situation where there were duplicate registrations where there were errors and registrations regarding party preference okay but nothing that can't be fixed nothing that can't be fixed and I think the key takeaway is absolutely no evidence that this made its way to the voter rolls and no evidence that this affected anyone's vote that anybody voted twice that there's any voter fraud okay thank you for that clarification just Levinson law professor at Loyola law school and a regular Monday legal legal here on press play thank you coming up why liberal Sausalito desegregation fights and rushed off to know a pop initially Trump abandoned the citizenship census question, yet thousands still have to answer it
"The president announced on Thursday that he is dropping further attempts to include the citizenship question on the twenty twenty census instead he signed executive order that's gonna require the commerce department to separately gather data from other departments within the government and then putting that together with the census information they'll get a complete picture of who all the citizens and non citizens are in the country we spoke to Nicole the ray immigration reporter at law three sixty for more on this the press conference that he gave was kind of weird it started off with his rhetorical question are you a citizen Gee I can answer that question are you a citizen of the United States of America Gee I'm sorry I just can't answer that question he essentially conceded that continuing to pursue the ship question in court but it also leaves preventing the center from being printed on time but at the same time he answered the negative order saying that states may actually be able to use their citizenship data that the department of commerce will ask me to draw electric affect based on eligible voters so that in some ways could be a concerning point that the X. value at least has highlighted is something that could be challenged in court at a later time but as of now it appears that comp is totally backing down on including the citizenship question on the census and definitely not a win for him he specifically said that I'm not backing down in my effort to get all of this information on who are citizens and non citizens this method that he's gonna go through with this executive order is basically what the census bureau said they should do instead you know go through all the other departments and you can get this information this way I guess the executive order is just making it clear that these other departments have to provide this information to the commerce department they can't provide this data to the commerce department but they also won't be actually allowed to use any kind of thank you that you may not get a more accurate this is just basically calling the resources that already exist within the government and it's creating a whole lot of new resources let's talk about bill Barr the Attorney General because the president brought him out to explain the back down it is the way I saw it obviously the Supreme Court said you can't put this question on the census you need to go back to the drawing board and give us different reasons for why you want to do this you can explain yourself well enough the first time so bill Barr comes out to basically explain that away saying the Supreme Court shot is down we can do it this way and he congratulated the president twice to say congratulations Mister president you're gonna get these numbers anyways I and it was just a weird picture that was going on actually catch this decision as a practical one he said that if the White House went back to the drawing board and fully explains the rationale behind the citizenship question in your credible court where this case now is they would definitely win but with such an abbreviated timeline for printing the census it ultimately he said just came down to a decision practicality rather than it being a matter of not being able to win the legal argument it did seem that way because the Supreme Court did say that they do have the right to ask the question is just you're not doing it the right way just yet go back to the drawing board and that that that was it the time line was just not working in their favor they needed to start printing the census pamphlets since July first I believe it was so go back to the drawing board it was just delay everything and you know that would just cause even more problems this is all going on against this backdrop we've been told that there's going to be a number of raids on undocumented migrant families by ice over the weekend I think they're starting Sunday and they're gonna be talking at least two thousand immigrants have been ordered to be deported and this gonna happen in at least ten major cities it's all in bucket it's a great immigration policy is better thank you they're in a great first in responding to your question on the campus that would improve their political power and now trust them service into hiding with each additional rates on but you know what the ACLU is now challenging you grades preemptively in New York federal court they just found a few today thank that the government have to get at least twenty families may be affected by that an opportunity to present their case in court and have a chance to make their teeth forty four Michael Moran immigration reporter a lot three sixty thank you very much for joining us thank one of the big stories of the week happened over the weekend and into Monday where federal prosecutors released an indictment against billionaire financier Jeffrey apps the in charge him with sex trafficking and creating a vast network of under age victims for him to sexually exploit the indictment alleges that he would pay girls for massages that would then become sex acts and then pay the girls more money to recruit other girls the store has a lot of details and even some connections to the current labor secretary Alexander Acosta for more on this we spoke to Kate breakaway she's a senior reporter the daily beast she was in court for actually is arraignment and tells us more details new about this is that he's being prosecuted in New York but the allegations are hauntingly similar to those that he faced in Florida about a decade ago and so the idea is that Jeffrey obscene uses employees as associates to recruit under age girls to come to his mansion and give him the sauces but once they arrive to his mansion in Palm Beach these are suppose it massage sessions actually turned into sexual abuse and molestation he paid the girls hundreds of dollars each visit and then he paid his victims to recruit even more underage girls so it is in a sort of the sex trafficking pyramid scheme that he was accused of running in Florida and now with thirty the New York are accusing him of doing the same thing but it is a pre side mansion in Manhattan but the motives and the and the methods are all very much the same in both cases the thing that's crazy about this story is obviously okay so he's connected to a lot of really famous important people Bill Clinton president Donald Trump even famous lawyers Alan Dershowitz is kind of wrapped up in all this stuff with him as well but tell us what happened because when this was going down in Florida he got some sort of sweet heart plea deal that let him just plead guilty to two counts of prostitution and everything basically went away he got a year in jail but even that he was getting out six days a week I think on work release this is back in two thousand seven he's a powerful financiers you said he has a little black book filled with famous people including you know these so seats of the Clinton assistance of the Clintons he had Malani and Donald Trump and his little black book I mean he knew everybody and so it's no surprise that he had a high powered legal team that stepped in to make sure that these charges didn't result in serious charges for hammer serious prison time essentially he had enough money to make this all go away so back in two thousand seven the US attorney's office in Miami which was then led by Alexander Costas who is now trump's labor secretary and his office had actually prepared a fifty three page indictment against that steam esteemed high powered lawyers which included their show it included Ken Starr intervenes behind the backs of the victims in this case so we have a situation where it is very powerful man with his all star legal team is collaborating with the US attorney's office with prosecutors to downgrade these charges on the other side you have victims that come you know they're vulnerable they come from under privileged family situations and esteemed attorneys made it out so they weren't credible at all I mean they created das Sears on the victim they provided the victim's social media pages that perhaps indicated drug user just had unseemly photos or things like that and so you know they not only attacks the victims in the case and there were allegations that I've seen sent people to follow the victims and to follow the victims families that Alexander costs that his bed in the past in a letter that he's written that prosecutors were under attack that they were looking for different peccadillos of prosecutors that could be exposed so it seems from the outside that prosecutors just wanted to get this deal done the US attorney's office now says well many of the victims in the case received a settlement from I've seen they didn't have to pay for their attorneys and you know I guess the US attorney's office thought it was okay that Mister Eckstine pleaded guilty to two state charges and ended up serving a year in jail and as you said that jail time was pretty laughable I mean he's in the private wing of the county jail and most of that time was spent on work release so it really is a miscarriage of justice that deal also shielded any co conspirators who may have helped arrange the girls coming to his places a lot of people are kind of sweat it right now because of these new charges who knows if they could be connected to all this all
