I'm i won't say it's wrong because that doesn't help get something done. You've got some things you've been working on. Some plans announced time to implement to start the roll out to make some things happen. I've been in merced in a in a course last What is four days now. That took some real brainpower took some concentration. Each lesson was about an hour long and then it was homework and some thought and so exercises a quiz. But and i still got two more modules to go. There are six steps in this process. So i got today and tomorrow but what are you doing to make a difference in your world. Let me throw out a word for the day today. Today's word is leverage. Are you looking for leverage points. Focal points where you can move heaven and earth around you as effort question. Hey remember going to be just about as great as you make up your mind to make it so join me and make it a fabulous day in part of that means not taking no for an answer is that makes some sense just because somebody said no. You can't do that or no. That is impossible or go away. You bother me you know that. That's not the definitive answer. That's one person's opinion. Big zig ziglar fan but less just has a way of bringing it down to earth for me. I guess but hey this is day. Five of the new year of the new month. That's right day. Five zero zero five twenty twenty one. Were you gonna do with it. What are you doing with it. If you're looking for something to do you could join me in my ninety day. Challenge to wholeness. What would it be like to be whole in both your business and personal life. Can you imagine that with me. I can. I'm pretty close. I'm pretty doggone close. of course i've been at it awhile figure some things out but the probably the the smartest thing i've ever done in my life and my career is figure out that if i want to accomplish something there's probably somebody else. It's already accomplished it or something very similar. And if i take the pages out of their playbook. I can make it happen for me. Let me say that again mentors. Mentorship mentoring is a key that you can do it yourself. There's there's a lot of people that have figured it out on their own. I'm not one of those people. Now get me in a room with a bunch of pieces parts or devices. I know how to disassemble and reassemble them. What john the colonel. John boyd called destruction in ton -struction and how to build snowmobiles. You get me in a room with a bunch of devices. I can turn down. Put them back together in a whole host of arrangements. Okay but it's so much easier so much faster to find somebody else that's done it and grab onto their coat. Tails does that make some sense. I hope so so. I've got a blog going. I've got some private links for you. I've got some podcasts and videos. What i call live cass. I've got all kinds of materials to help you get where you want to go in help you find somebody to help you get where you want to go. If i'm not the person how cool is that. That's even better. Four as they number four of the month and the new year twenty twenty one articles so this is an exercise in getting more done and producing massive results. So first thing spoiler alert. If you have not gotten here one episode at a time starting with the first episode. We released on january first. Then you should go do that. I okay include lincoln. The show notes take it back to the beginning of the beginning of this ninety day program. Okay so here's the spoiler alert. I believe i've found this book. Read this book. I consume that. I tried plied it in worked. This book called. Well let me qualify. It worked in a sense. The books called the one minute millionaire and to have a ninety day program to get you to one million dollars cash. Us dollars in your pocket within ninety days. Now if you get really good at it they show how you can actually generate a million dollars in revenue in. Just one minute and i think they did it on the oprah show to prove it but so for ninety days. I'm gonna march you through a series of lessons. Because i'm gonna march me through a series of lessons and if you apply the lessons as you tweak it you make your own then we should be making progress but the first thing we have to do this first week. These i seven days has built this cornerstone upon which everything else will rest. Does that make some sense. So this is day. Four am gonna share a A blog post with you. I'm also gonna share video with you. Besides his podcast. And there's going to be exercises in there that you need to do and if you like. There's an accountability aspect where you can post to me daily. That you've done these exercises and as a spot there for you to give me your thought for the day so this is the fourth day that makes me think of four things right. You know like. I was looking through some art work and i saw photos. One of them had a side of a building and it had four windows. And i thought that's a little obscure especially this early in the morning but so what i think a four things i think of a quad okay. I'm the motorcycles motor sports. I think a four wheeler lot of fun. My daughter had one once upon a time. And so i know a friend. an employee. Who worked for me for for. I don't know was probably a year better. Maybe two and he was into the three wheel three wheelers right. And that's a special. That's a special breed of person. In fact i think they basically outlawed them so they've aren't safe and he still to. My knowledge collects them rides them but four wheels are better than three. So if you're four days into this adventure you're doing the exercises. You're being accountable to yourself and or me. It should be more of the same right this. This cornerstone were laying. And so today's lesson are basically the four methodologies that i used to get anything done so we're gonna touch on them today in the blog post the four methodologies and then we'll explore each of them in the days ahead but i i have found that a framework is invaluable. Even if it's the wrong framework if you're trying to apply framework and it's not working then tells you. Hey i either need to modify it or find a new better one right without that. "Hey there good morning. It is a new day a new month and the new year and it is well. Hey i'm your host. Jeff ski kinsey. And this is my little corner on the internet. A podcast. i've been podcasting. Wow since two thousand and five. That's like a long time. Doesn't it of literally recorded thousands of sessions. But this is a brand new day new month new year's i said and so let's start with something new. So what can we do. That's brand new owner of the occasion by the way happy new year's day. Well here's what we can do. We can send out a mission for ourselves. A goal or purpose of vision an end point somewhere in the future. Let's set one ninety days out from today and let's say we're going to accomplish some things within the next ninety days then we're going to put together a plan. Then we're actually going to put some boots on crown and start putting one foot in front of the other till we get there so that makes some sense great. So what should we plan on in the next ninety days. Well one of my favorites if your business is doubling sales. That's right together. We could double your sales in the next ninety days if your business. I and you're not in the food or beverage industry. I have never done that. I've stayed away from it and especially now given what happened last year. Thank goodness is in our rear view mirrors. But i still don't do food or beverage. never have never will. It's something that. I decided that. I just wanna go. They're just not as much fun as working say in the motorcycle industry or the tax base or the startup space or ev's or renewable energy like a lot of neat things to do so. It's just best if i stay out of certain industries. So let's say let's say you don't own a business. Let's say you're sitting there unemployed. Okay and you're saying i know there's a job there for me k. What i think you have to do is you have to tell yourself you have to get up every morning. Look yourself in the mirror and say look. I got this if it's to be it's up to me if it's to be for you it's up to you. I get encouraged. I can try to help motivate you but motivation is an internal thing you have to basically justify to yourself right but i can help and i can point you to some some people that that excite me get me moving in the right direction and they may or may not work for you. Is that fair enough okay. So here's the plant. We're going to find something worthy to work on together. You and i in. It's not a one sided conversation. "On little pieces of paper sticking him on all so we we've vertical the wailing wall instead of the bitch and moan session only want two or three no more than seven complaints or things that broke or things that went wrong or things that held you back. It might be as simple as traffic. Okay you're trying to get somewhere and the traffic prevented you so. I have anything break yesterday. I don't think so but let's think about it Did anything break. i'm on. i'm going to make something. Let's say you know i. I didn't get time to exercise. Try to write him short but complete sentences. I didn't get time to exercise now. I try to exercise at least thirty minutes. Typically i walk thirty minutes at least four times a week. Sometimes more and so. I didn't get to do my exercise. What else. i didn't find time to write. Hey i'm working on a new book. I have been of of written some versions. I'm not happy with so. I started over clean sheet of paper blank slate. I didn't have. I didn't find time to write. Okay anything else. I'm working on reorganizing. My office so did not get my office re organized so tear it off sticking on the wall so let's look at these. I didn't get time to exercise. I didn't find time to read. I did not get my office reorganized. Which means i didn't find the time for. Guess what there's a theme here. I'm having a terrible time with time. Management in essence. Does that make some sense now for you. Let's say let's say your car wouldn't start. Maybe the batteries been acting up. you know. sometimes it's been hesitant to start and then we had a cold snap. As i said it was ten degrees this morning. And now we've got a new battery. I think a year ago the car is is a twenty fourteen. I think it had the original battery so we had to replace it a year ago So so mind started fine but if yours didn't k- then what's that mean. Well it means that you need to maybe perform some maintenance. Maybe the battery cables are corroded and they need clean. Maybe it needs tested. And there's a number of places that will test batteries for free. Most of the auto parts store today do that. I'm concerned about my battery. The idea here is to analyze. You got him up on the wall. You're looking at them is there. A common theme is something. We can address elegant. Say look for the next ninety days. I'm going to work on time management. That's how the wailing wall works. We wanna put problems up. You can do this in a business. Setting with all your c. Level people that's a whole nother conversation but what can i accomplish by march twenty seventh if i figure out what's wrong with my time. Management approach in implement fixes in that regard. Now i'm gonna make an excuse like you all do right. well make. Excuses was the holidays and was christmas. I've been running hard on a project for about sixty days. And i needed a break. So maybe there's nothing wrong. Maybe all this just the fact. Hey it was christmas break you know. I needed some time off. But i jumped back into things on sundays sundays a day. I get ready for the rest of the week and that works for me and i have a bunch of time means techniques. I use so i'm not going to be too hard on myself. I'm going to say look it makes sense. I took christmas day off and the day after which is kind of a lazy day. But guess what it sunday i want. Do some drink building. And i was a little bit last night looking at youtube. Look different motorcycle videos Got i need to focus on my honda jet backing year. But i'm not going to be too hard on myself. And i don't want you to be too hard on yourself. This is. A thirty one H H stands for hiring manager. Someone talk to hiring managers. Here's a serious question. I'm I. Mean I'm serious I'm expecting an answer from your right. Have Lem, no. Are, you qualified for the position you now hold. Of course you're right, you had the position. But when you started with the company, if you've been more than been there more than twelve months. I would suggest you would not have been hired for the position you now hold. True or false? K. Many Times I have found myself enrolls over the last thirty plus years that I wouldn't qualify. Gary, Bainer Chuck is famous for saying. He couldn't. He wouldn't qualify for any position in his company they intermedia. Because, that's the way life works, so you as a hiring manager? Why are you allowing the evil cat burts of the world? To Pin your ears back and say well, this is what we need to state what we're to look for to get you the best person for the position. They. Don't know that's not their role. HR's role in the bigger scheme of thing. Let's call compliance okay. Let's keep them out of the hiring process until the very last moment. Here's the way it works at voice. I dot careers. We work with talent. What some people call job, seekers or candidates? We call them talent with a capital T.. And we work with hiring managers, and that's it. We don't talk to the evil capper to the world. Came, so you give us. Over the phone? Okay, we don't do resumes and we don't do emails over the phone. We have a conversation you said. This is what I need. I need somebody come in here. And can make hey. Can hit the ground running or you might say I, need a recent college Grad or a recent code. School Grad boot camp of some nature. I want somebody. I can bring in here and train up in the way. We want him to go to get this job done and I've done that. Of done that numerous times, maybe ten or fifteen times I've worked with interns apprentices. From College from high school from career centers. In just out of the blue. I've worked with people to train them up in the way that I need them to work. And so that only makes sense, but back to you the hiring manager. You need to tell me and you can do it via a job rec job requisition. You know that's fine, but we got to do it over the phone you get. Give me some particulars that I need the inside track on this because then. "He this is Jeff Ski Kinsey with voice. I dot careers as right when you were born. You probably like most of us led out this amazing screen fast. As as explosion of sound right in at some point it became a voice. You know at some age begin to talk well in the world of technology especially in these times voice is everything voice is what. I like to call. Friction Lewis Intelligence. And so how do you launch a startup launch? Any new idea. Will you solve a problem that you personally are wrestling with and the toughest thing that one of my business partner Tom Monteleone? We created something little over two years ago called Agile Audio Day sports and one of the toughest things we did with staff for skill development. What Alexa calls skills by the way big because capsules that was that was a nightmare? So we pivoted that business into a resale organization so basically we got our development business for the most part. There's still some odds and ends but we resell the efforts of others when this process and with the meltdown all of a sudden I saw some amazing talent. What I call the eighteen or the a player you heard referred to I seen these amazing developers getting let go from voice I companies. That hadn't figured out how to monetize their efforts so I said look. This is a natural. I've actually been three attempts before created or helped create something in the recruiting space in work co work force procurement hiring staffing recruiting. And so. I did it in two thousand nine after the meltdown of two thousand eight in I put together team. We created amazing job board but we couldn't get any funding. Well guess what fast forward to the year twenty twenty. This virus thing has got everyone's attention. It's changing all the rules. And so what did I discover? Woke up the other morning and it's like Oh Jeez it is plain as the nose on my face. The whole hiring process has been broke for number of years. The eight T S.'s applicant tracking systems. Have abused the I guess. The talents trust and made in made promises that they the. Ats providers have made promises to the HR departments. They just cannot keep which time to tear that model completely down to the ground and start over. And that's what we're doing with voice. I dot careers. That's the website. Ever since then he decided consulting for us here Ray digital and has amazing insight and experience when it comes to technology and how technology affects Your Business and your processes enjoy this episode hero. Hey there I'm Eric Olsen and I'm Kevin days join us on our journey to building a one hundred million dollars company Las Vegas Short. Were actually on our second KIA. This one is what they call a Kia soul at because it's based on the drive train as I understand from the Kia Rio like the first Kia we had. I tend to call it our Kia Rio Grande Day because it's much bigger but we bought this shoes. It came off a lease and we bought it got what we thought was a pretty good deal on. It had thirty eight thousand miles and so we're test driving it. We come back in and I say hey. There's no CD player in the saleswoman says. Yeah that's right I said well you meet. Yeah that's right. She says what does need one. Everybody's going to streaming audio for content. Like wow I should know that. I've been in tech my whole life. I was a commercial software development for close to thirty years. And so it's like while she's right. I've had my pandora count the free one. For over what? Fifteen years Something like that. At least ten I remember shouting about it. At an event in December of two thousand five and so long story short I call this the key mindset and of course other companies do that. But does your company do it? Does your company think ahead so far ahead of the curve. The people actually stop in their tracks and say. Tell me that again. Same Way with the light switch so it's dark when we finally ended up test driving this. Kia I get out and I'm saying why didn't hear the beep and so it's like well. Why is that? I left the lights on but I turned the key off. I took it out. There's no beep. The Salesperson said because the KEA turned the lights off for you. It's like what light switches on. Yeah but the keys. Not In the car so you don't need the lights. I mean think about that. Think about the energy the effort the the brainpower that went into this mindset. That said there's a better experience I remember. I don't remember the exact car but I remember for many years now. Cars have beeped. When you left your lights on. You took the key out and you went to get out of your car. It only makes sense right. No it did not make sense. It was a stopgap solution. How many stopgap solutions do you have in Your Business That's something to think about. That might even be something to call everybody together. Have a great big meeting with everybody in a company and say look. We're GonNa what I call the Wailing Wall. It's to determine the weakest link in your business the core constraint the bottleneck what's holding your company back so let's get everybody in a meeting room. Let's give everybody a pad of post it notes and let's write down. What went wrong in your business today. So far right in on a post it note one short simple sweet sentence pull up on the wall. Okay what happened? What went wrong in Your Business yesterday the day before and so forth. Once you post those up then you're gonNA find some order you're gonNA find some common occurrences and you're gonna find some things that fed something else what we call cause and effect logic and I'm gonNA suggest you need to look at that much. Recently we brought on a business consultant if you will named jeff ski kinsey and what he is brought to the table in a nutshell is what's called called theory of constraints or t._s._e. This was first developed by eli. Go rat with his nineteen eighty four book the goal this was later adapted little bit in nineteen ninety seven with the book critical chain which i'm actually reading right now but the theory constraints from what i most know it as of now is pretty simple. There is at least one weakest link in your company. There's always gonna be one. Is the you know the weakest of all the links you have right so there's at at least one weakest link and the process is go that you go through is really figuring out which is the weakest link and then put all your energy energy on that to fix it and in starting all over again what's the next weakest link and the next week slink and so everyone that's listening. If you have a company or run a business or you're in a business there is a weakest link and the thing is what we do most the time emmy and eric do the salat is the focus on twenty different things once we want to do this that this that every other day and we were not really focused on any particular issue is get everything everything fix or change everything at once because we want to go go go go go in reality is you're not that focused right and so you're trying to do all these things and what jeff has come in to help us with is really saying go through these exercises learn these tools and his processes to figure out which thing in your company is holding you back from growing. We're doubling or whatever it might be so that's what we're doing here and raiders. It'll work tackling the weakest link. We're gonna fix it program improve. It and we're looking for the results. I think we're gonna see really good results. Salts and we're going to move onto the next weakest link the something we're hopefully going to continue to do and stick with it and double this company over and and over and over again so i would do yourself a favor check out the book critical chain this on audio we can read it.
