The sony michelle trade to the los angeles rams our takes on the nfc east coming up next hour some of nick ashes nba nuggets of knowledge. Some alliteration there. We like that on the show coming up next hour as well. In addition to a conversation with jeff sherman of the west gate super bowl right now. We welcome to the show one of our favorite guests. Squared technically mix. I think three is that what it is. I think it's three ninety-two yet. Geometry neil all new tonight. That's why i'm not doing anything that involves math other than this. This is as close as it gets. We talked about the sony. Michelle trade a little bit earlier and when you look at that just from a you know a betting perspective but also just wear it kind of puts these teams. How much of a change does that make in the overall projection for the rams and for the patriots. Well i think it tells you what the patriots think of their rookie running back stevenson. I mean he's a big physical guy and that's why they were able to make this deal. I mean he's been impressive in the preseason. He supposedly very impressive in their workouts and their practices. So i get it. You have had a abundance of riches so made sense to trade one of them. And if you're the rams. I mean look. They didn't have a guy and once they lost cam acres There's some injury issues with henderson. So there's obviously some concern there as well. It made all.

"I just said aging genus key said he is returning as head coach. Oh, is that mean, he's definitely coming back. It's not the magic vomit Celo shop. But what is what would you have to say about the one guy who bet ten dollars on the Knicks to win the championship next year sixteen to one at the Super Bowl? That's great. You saw that. I saw it. I just saw an article that said they've taken one bet at sixteen the one. From the according to Jeff Sherman, the VP of risk management at the super book. Risk management. Can we handle this hundred sixty dollars? If the Knicks win. I mean, the it's seems pretty clear what's happening now. So the Sixers loss Toronto moved on, you know, Kawais just some fucking basketball robot would know personality, Portland moved on. That's interesting. I mean, at least at least as far as the Eastern Conference finals, we're going to have a new team in the east. Yeah. I think since two thousand nine it's either been the heat Celtics or calves so basically teams that LeBron was on or teams that beat LeBron after someone after one of his teammates, his mom. Yeah. So those are like two to dig out bring into Lante west. Okay. I don't know. What are your thoughts on this run this? I mean, the Sixers moving forward the the move is you have to resign Jimmy Butler Jimmy Butler, you need a grown, man. You need a guy who's going to yell at impede and Simmons. I don't Simmons has to figure out how to hit a jump shot. I mean like a broken record over here. You just have to be able to shoot the ball. You can't be looking to pass in the restricted area. Okay. Yeah. If a guy's wide open for three in the corner. The analytics the stat heads will tell you to throw it. But if you're in the restricted area, which was multiple times without shooting..

"It was an under thrown ball of the defensive back didn't make good play on. Right. So you have all these safeties playing deep two of them stick. And then you have these rub plays in elements open over the middle every time. So all romo's pointing out his single coverage. Do it. It's here's a rub play. And there's a first now, right? I actually get annoyed when coaches go away from something that's working, right? Like, we talked about the Georgia Oklahoma game year ago and the Rose Bowl in Georgia's ripping off eleven yard carries. They start getting cute. No, the patriots didn't get you there. Like, all right. These knuckleheads are playing deep. I'm just going to run underneath and Bronx single covered. Oth- wrote him in runner up over the Middle East wide open. I was talking to add in Jeff Sherman salmon's and Jeff Sherman in the back right for you showed up decay, and one of the things I feel like I'm getting older, and I'm getting pretty old or cranky is I know very smart, but I'm starting to wonder. Where is Bella check truly genius? Or these other coaches just a bunch of blockheads and bell. Check is just smarter than all of them. So he outsmarts all well, that's it's a couple of things it is. He is a wizard when it comes to some of the scheming, right? What he did to the chargers. And then back in the day what he did a jet with the giants against the bills and things like that. Matrix. Right patriots. Now with that being said, those are all I think accurate assessments, but some of the other stuff I think he gets gravy on top because the other guys make too many mistakes. We saw it in the saints game refs. Choke just as much as players coaches joke as well. Andy Reid choked. With that time out in the first half on third and four third in eleven. Okay. Maybe I'm okay with eleven is a different story. So pin back either on their own ten they were at their own thirty five forty. So I think Bella check really just kind of plays relatively tellingly at times, and it's just magnified because he has players like Brady who delivered and the clutch. And then also the other coaches have some buffoonery. I don't understand some of the stuff that was going on. It's very disappointing for guy who had money on the chiefs. But I I really did want Kansas City in the Super Bowl too. And I love Mahomes like most of America. It's frustrating. Give the patriots there. Do who knows? What happens without the roughing call? I think that was on second down. It was those second on. Long. They converted all day. The absolutely couldn't convert down another play Odeon think don't compare that. Call to what happened to the saints. That is ridiculous. The New England would have just had a third eight. They probably would have just run the same rub play with the safety taking Ataman, and they probably would have got a first and at that didn't happen than than Kevin would have had one. Catch Chris HOGAN, Kevin HOGAN, former court quarterback. Kevin mclean. Virginia native the played quarterback at Stanford. Right. Yes. That that's okay. Okay. So here we have patriots Rams. The Super Bowl props will be unveiled in a few hours. You know, I can tell you weren't too excited..

"But they need to go to a really vanilla playbook because they don't wanna show Minnesota. Anything when they have to play them again six or seven days later, but they've already pleaded to their now one and a half to whatever when I have real incomes. Yeah, they played they played a few months ago. But I mean, I'm just saying you don't wanna show anything new to this team when you have to play them again the next week. Gotcha. What about? God, it's such a complicated week. What about like that game? Would you change the first half not being commensurate like how do you go about that actually myself? And and Jeff Sherman we talked about that yesterday where you know, the the bears you would think are going to be if they're going to go forward. It's going to be in the first half. Right. So we wouldn't mind writing some money on Vikings first-half. We're also juggling. This this Vikings playoff bet that I've talked about several times on this show the gentleman bit two hundred forty thousand one hundred and twenty thousand on the Vikings to make the playoffs. So we're also juggling that there's a million things going on this last week of the year. That is crazy then you have the Steelers which a week ago were fourteen to one to win it all now fifty to one because they're on the outside looking at the playoff picture and do not control their own destiny. No. And Baltimore Baltimore winning. The AFC north is a huge win for us here at the super book. So we actually are going to be rooting against our favorite team the Browns on Sunday. We wanted to go in that game. Yeah, we're gonna we have no choice the Brennan the Browns. The Browns took care of us last week. They got that seventh win. I mentioned that was a big thing for us in win totals. The Brown's got win number seven, man. Who knows how many games they would have wanted. It started the year with this coaching staff and Baker Mayfield a quarterback. They might have won like ten or eleven games. I know it sounds crazy. But is it crazy? Who is their previous coach? I I can't remember Hugh Jackson. I think was the head boss. And then the Todd Haley was the offense coordinator. Now forgot as I make fun of Hugh Jackson so much. I wanna make sure everybody knows that. I also blame Todd Haley. He he was terrible. Terrible. A terrible job. So a couple. Yes, no props because you guys posted those for every team to make the playoffs and things that are looking good obviously Seahawks. Yes. Plus two eighty bears colts each plus two forty Cowboys plus a buck sixty and.

"Pittsburgh Steelers comes out at three and a half in the super contest, we've talked about this before on the show, but you know, Jeff Sherman the guys over at the west gate, don't kind of put some wrinkles into this thing a little bit give people some more decisions. I think Pittsburgh probably does come out three and a half here in the super gone. Does this week? If that is the case, I will have some interest in the Denver Broncos Pittsburgh off of that huge win with that playoff revenge spot last week against Jacksonville. And honestly, I say I haven't seen anything about it this week. But Ben Rothlisberger looked like he was can cost. I mean, he ran right into the giant tree trunk leg of his offensive lineman with that dive, he looks like he wasn't fully sure of where he was at the end of that game there against Jacksonville. So I kind of wonder if maybe there's a little bit of a residual, you know, mild concussion or something like that in play for rothlisburger, but you know. First and foremost back toback road games for Pittsburgh in Jacksonville last week. Now going all the way out to the altitude to take on Denver in the mile high city. You know, they go there all the time. So that's a little bit of a tough spot. And also to this line did open three and a half came down to three. It's three kind of even money out there in the marketplace right now, but the Broncos last week got very fortunate to beat the chargers now they maybe weren't too fortunate to get inside the numbers they were touchdown dog. But they were outgained four seventy nine to three twenty five in that game. And a lot of times what we see with these misleading. Final scores compared to the box score. Is that the market winds up fading that team the next week? So why aren't people fading Denver this week? Why aren't the sharp guys going against the Broncos? I think they can run the football and Pittsburgh a little bit here. I think now that they've got that three back system all back in healthy, take some of the pressure take some of the responsibility away from case keenum. I is a really tough spot for Pittsburgh here. So I do like Denver a little bit again like it more than three and a half. But I think this is another one of those anti consensus kinds of plays where your Denver getting a road price. Specifically if it's three and a half against the team a bad spot hard to pass on that. I yeah. I don't blame you there. And then you're going against the team to that. What's the win streak up to then six games Benchley? The Steelers can't keep that up of. I almost like if I was back in them for some postseason props. I hope they drop one just to like get it out of the way. But this might be that spot second road game. It's always tough to play up in Denver. And these teams have a history. I'm pretty sure Denver's won up on them in the last five at least. So yeah, it's not like it's bird goes there and plays. Well, all the time. So it's yeah. As far as neyland down a good spot. I agree with that. It's just man tough to get against Pittsburgh that offense, but they they could have their way. And then this is another issue with those linebackers Denver Todd Davis, thankfully, he's healthy. But Brandon Marshall and that Guinea Josie jewels in there for him now. But like. I I don't know what kind of linebacker after we're gonna see against that. Vance McDonnell to is just I mean, I've I've never seen Vance look like this. That's I hate to put it out there, man. But would not be surprised if he has juiston. I mean, he is just Jack right now and tackling him. It's just a risky proposition for any NFL defender. I don't care who you are that that kid. He's probably gonna get loose in this game. And there's just so many skill position weapons against this. Denver defense. It ain't what it used to be. So that's that's where I worry a little bit. But no as far as the spot the spot probably would lean Broncos..

"But still, you know early on in the season a lot of perceptions really skewed. And this is something that I've been watching very closely here to see how teams kind of fall back into either what they've done previously or what they're expected talent level, actually is sure. And I mean, I guess an example of that is gonna be Utah who I think is trying to make a more concerted effort to play with a little bit better face. I mean, they were one of slower pace teams in the league. But I think eventually. And I think it'll be it'll end up being above last year. But eventually I mean, they're their identity defense. And and I think that identity is going to stay the same. Now, they may not play as many games in the eighties. You know, they may be in the high nineties, but you know, some of these jazz totals I think eventually are going to go down. I mean mean tonight, I mean, jazz total is to twenty two and a half with with Minnesota. And those totals last year might have been like to ten so eventually you're going to see like you were saying some regression, and maybe kind of going back in into what your identity is. And plus this is so early in the season that coaches are trying to kind of see their rotation. So they're going to experiment a little bit more early in the season. Then they're going to come. You know? January or something like that. So these teams for the most part of these are going to be completely different. Yeah. And it it's one of those things it's always interesting to me about the NBA as well, especially because I'm such an analytics guy when it comes to baseball. And I'm starting to get into them a little bit more with hockey. Gimme a is kind of becoming that copycat league as well to some degree where you know, teams are kind of realizing that there's not a whole lot of equity in the mid range game you wanna play high percentage shots around the rim. And you probably want to Chuck it away from deep you'll like the Houston Rockets have been doing, and obviously they're kind of in the forefront there when it comes to NBA analytics and stuff like that. But that's always intriguing to me too. And and seeing how the oddsmakers are just sue the different, you know, atmospheres in the NBA. And and I think that now we've kind of gotten to a point where you know, we were talking about very high totals. We're talking about line moves on totals earlier on in the season. It seems like that market has really settled in. And that's something where you gotta give the oddsmakers a lot of credit because they adjust in a very timely manner. And you just hope that as a better, you can do the same thing. Yeah. Absolutely. That I mean one of the things too. I was here on a local radio. Oh yesterday and Jeff Sherman over at the west gate Super Bowl Q. I say who's who follows that'd be pretty closely at kind of one of the sports. He specializes as odd Baker over there. I mean that that's his sport his duty to do those lines..

"More so than bending the regular PGA tour and European tour events. I think there are a lot more opportunities to make money. We talk about. Diversifying your portfolio on this show. I think when it comes to the Ryder Cup with the unique nature with how you can compare strengths and weaknesses for the teammates, stuff like that. I, there are so many more opportunities here that it was good to spend. You know, a decent part of two segments are on the show about the Ryder Cup. Yeah, exactly. And one thing to be advised, especially for some of the west coast listeners of the banged book podcast is that you know you're going to have to get up early to play some of these bath, especially when they have a morning session that's usually put out the night before. And then before that first session ends, they're putting out the the the afternoon session matches. And you know, I heard from Jeff Sherman over at the west gate who those at all on Twitter, some of these matchups they're not going to be able to get up at the book, but they will have on the RAB simply because the book is not open when some of these matchups are going to go off. So I mean, you know, there are actually books that close for a few hours out here to and then have to come in the morning and set odds and whatnot and get prices up on the screen. But you know, that's one thing to to kind of be aware probably because of the time of the year with the. NFL and college football going on gets ignored, but there are opportunities here and even if you only met a couple of matchup, this is a really fun event to watch. This is arguably the most talented or Cup in history. This is the first time actually, I believe in Ryder Cup history layers in the official world golf rankings play in the event which which makes sense. Because in the past years, you've had tons of Australian players VJ Singh from Fiji guys from South Africa. So you've had non US and non European players in that top ten. And for the first time you don't have that here for a Ryder Cup. So I think that this is going to be a really fun watch and a really competitive event. And you know, hope everybody at least gets involved in watching the. So basically what you're saying west is you're not getting much sleep this weekend. More than likely, not. All right. Let's transition over to the NFL side of things here because I want to spend a few minutes talking about derivative betting which assuming that you have a lot of success with you are a very, very high volume handicapper at west Reynolds on the number one on Twitter. If you follow him, you know that he's a very high volume handicapper. So we talked in the previous segment with Brian Leonard about inflated NFL totals and what they're doing for me teaser standpoint. I want to ask you, what are these inflated totals doing for you for me derivative standpoint. Well, I think you've been able to find a little bit of value, especially maybe going over in some of the first half I used to like to go under, but even, you know, games and I'm not even talking about where you have the two big offenses like you had with the chargers in the Rams. You know, I'm talking like a Denver and also more. I mean, that thing went over the first half total last week. 'cause I played the first half over twenty or twenty. Three that's thing went over by the first quarter and you know two teams that you wouldn't expect with being like an offense shootout. So you're seeing that. And I also think you're seeing books try to get ahead and try to adjust because just so many of rule changes or the rule enforcements or so many penalties being called..

"One weird thing I'm looking at in this kind of plays into another thing on our outline is what what is Brandon Knight is he's he's healthy, right? It's a twenty six year old who's making fifteen million dollars a year. That's a huge question Mark for this team for team who needs a point guard. I, I don't. I have no idea like where where he's at healthwise development wise, but by all accounts is a great kid hard worker and is being paid as a good starting point guard. And I guess now I've kind of touched every base, so this whole team of what we're excited to watch all Tyson Chandler, but. I decided to see what what Brandon night is. I mean, should be able to contribute some bit twenty six years old still to be in his prime. I, I don't know. That'll be interesting for me. Yeah, he's been off my mental right or fair, and that's not good. I mean, there are some players like they just can't handle the rhyme physically. I the example always use his if you see a like a baseball pitcher, AAA, just like go out and throw anything. Just smoke three and you're like, why is he in the major leagues? And it's like, well, he can't throw more than one or twice a week and you just can't handle the schedule. So you know, we'll, we'll see. I would. It'd be. A lot of the questions we answered if a sons are like nobody's talking about Brian is completely ready to come back and start of the playoff position for I have no clue, but that is something like if I see his sons preseason game on TV, you know, October eighth or whatever they start playing. It's like I was like, is tonight even around supporter thing. But. There right? Where the bulls are RPM and over under twenty seven point two twenty and a half, man. The Western Conference is absolutely brutal. They'd have to play above five hundred basketball against Eastern Conference. He's probably get that not really important, but it's kind of how close things out. I don't have strong feelings either wanna. Yes, strong feeling though whether the we're not interesting thing on it quick. I'll then I'll let you go. Greg is that they are the only line that has moved up in Vegas, so they came out at twenty eight and a half, and I got so much action on the over that they've moved it to twenty nine and a half. I was reading something on the app Elec and that Jeff Sherman who's the guy at Gulf God's on Twitter who tweet who tweets out all those overrun bears from west gate. He's the manager of west gate and most follow on Twitter. If you're going to be enough, I'll on go follow. Yeah, right. Yeah. But yeah, it was interesting that that's only line that moved and the just this is just random. But NBA fan would probably like this is that the other three most bet on things was the under for the Lakers forty, eight and a half the under for the Spurs forty three and a half, which I totally I would. I'll bet the over on that for sure. And then the over on the Tim roles at forty four and a half also got has both of the four that I've got the most action according to Jeff Sherman, but the sun's everyone everyone loves us team. I don't. I think they're going to be under that for sure. In the west, they're not one of thirty games no way. And I think this is just like the bulls if the hit the over might be because they didn't play the young guys enough it could. It could mean, hey, been there took a step, Chris took us. So sometimes it's like with the hawks last year. You see them taking way more likely than that, like I can't, but I just remember being the hawks he's last year. All the hawk turns like tank tank. I want them to when they named the first pick of the draft. And my response was if they win thirty games because guys took a step four, that's not a bad thing. So I would I would put that same kind of task to the sons. If John Jackson, Josh actor really opens his game up, it means they wouldn't twenty nine or thirty games. That's not that Greg. Any thoughts are on that? Yeah, I have a hard time seeing them move the win total Ford much from where they were last year..

"Man, oh man, we gotta get some business cards printed up with that and the man the myth, the legend Murray, how we doing man, I'm doing good. You know the guys at the super book. They've really had a lot of laughs off that little intro, the introduction, you guys put together a few weeks ago for me and a lot of laughing at the book about that. Well, hopefully they're laughing with you and not laughing at you. Well, let me tell you this on Tuesday. I walk into work and one of the girls who works for us, Mindy. She had that intro cute up and as I walked into words my desk, she played it and there was a smattering of giggles from both Mindy and from Jeff Sherman. Well, look, I, I was out there a couple of weeks ago for summer league. You know, I was behind the counter there. It's just a laugh a minute really. Crew, not me personally, but some of the other guys are humorous, humorous group. Well, you know, you don't come in every day with your joke. Writers. Sometimes Neil more preparation. It all depends on the day. I can't be funny everyday man. Gotta take things seriously. You know that we are all only human after all one at one to start Murray with some golf. Obviously, we're taping this on Thursday, British open or the open, the open championship kicking off. Talk to me a little about the action and some of the bigger beds. I know we had a lot of large matchup bets for the US open. I was taken aback by how how big they were and specifically kind of limits that you guys allow is that typically something you guys have for everyone and is the same better who was betting those fifty grand forty grand on matchups back for the open championship as well. Yeah, he he did. He had fears four match of beds this week for fifty thousand eight and we can get into into those four bats. And he has a few other bats for ten twenty twenty five thousand. But the thing I really want to mention though Ben is it's very important to understand that guy is in a very special category. That guy is a guy that's been playing with us for years. He bet the NFL, the NBA hockey tennis horse racing. It's not as if we would just let any person come into the book and make bets like that. This is a guy that were very familiar with we've known for years and he is the only one really that we would give pro. One of the only people all say that we would give those bets too. You know, as sports betting goes national becomes more popular and people are learning more and more about it. I think it's important that everybody understand that there are limits in Nevada, and they're going to be limits in every state. You can't just walk in here and that whatever you want on anything you want. That's just not works. With a duffle bag fifty degrees. You're not taking my Justin Thomas action for you. We might do it Ben, but you know, it's just like, I know you may you and decay. We had some jokes about the Al lighter thing. A few weeks ago, he was talking about getting down five hundred thousand dollars on a baseball prop that's preposterous. I mean, these books have limits and you can't do that and it's just important. Understand this guy. He's in a special category and just just for listeners who don't know the outlaw to reference. He was at the New York gaming association. They were talking about a Bill to legalize sports betting in the state of New York. He was essentially referencing the fact that if you were a better, this was a threat to the integrity of baseball. His argument was if you are better, you could basically drive from casino to casino placing multiple a fifty thousand dollar bet hundred thousand dollar bet on MLB props, and he was greatly exaggerating the amount of money you'd be able to get down on. Those profits..

"At enough to simplify we're looking base than optimization of sports and that's what like the sloan analytics conference who by the way they're omori houston rockets gm it's one of the founders of it out there they are one of the first teams to see okay we should take a lot of 3pointers and his long 2 pointers aren't good and layups and 3pointers are working and are times their offense is just unstoppable now again there's plenty of okay'd how great is james harden on defense and obama elahmar wrote an article about how he's kind of better than people whatever may now in olympic skies correct um how he's better than people really think in the public perception but teams are just getting better at basically score and we see the same thing in football where there's a lot of convention okay this down and distance i'm an opponent back to my defense because i trust them verses few look the numbers is actually more beneficial for you to try and gain that one yard and fourth in one at the other teams 48yardline um people are getting better at that across sports and rock it's just seemed to be a team that you know now again they're going to run into the warriors and everyone will be i think that seems like the fate accompli western conference finals and it'll be great series i'm super excited to see it and as you know the warriors have more talent but the rockets are probably better quote unquote team um now the warriors gyp jeff sherman said if the rockets of the homecourt he's the had mba oddsmaker west gate said be warriors will be about a buck sixty bucks a eighty favorite right now so probably the lowest series price for the warriors during the steve kerr air right like i think maybe the first cavs title yet viral i would i would imagine off the top of my head i think it was still a two dollars 210 for the warriors that first year that they before the for sure they want it right i remember the cavs were hurt tuesday no love in cairo got hurt after game schumer one i can't remember but i completely agree you know how we talked about the going for on fourth down and all that but it's just we have to just realized that things have changed look at everything nowadays.

"Well it it's a wave of with these guys are betting everything i'm so i'm gonna say is speaking in generalities but it's a wave of under beds and no bets lot of we'll play our export touchdown know under passing yards for this player that's generally been how it's always go on this year it was a little bit different though guys because william hill and south point both had propped numbers out before us this season and what we had this time was almost more than half of that we saw last night were just people middling and scalping us to william hill or south point so it was a lot less gambling going on this year it was mostly just guys playing our numbers against some of our competitors mm now that all plays out it's true because you mentioned tuesday i'd sent some text messages to oddsmakers on tuesday when i saw the line move from the cavs getting one and a half or two two laying two and a half on the spurs three side at noticeable appoint spread move and i was trying to figure out what was going on and everyone uh every responded no clue of do super bowl props everybody on nope quit knew what the scott brooks who are the cavaliers yeah no ever pretty much everybody was not uh uh i mean we have some we had some people there of course but ed uh jeff sherman randy blown was one of our managers very involved in a props everybody was as house so we uh we we didn't have our finger on the pulse of the nba market is like we normally would.

"So what is the disconnect between their economy which is growing they have margins expanding know never had this recession and they're contained grove's similar rates wire their yield up with why did he say they never had this recession they had a bad couple of years and they certainly suffered during the great great recession sure but also we did to really in profitability in the us it was highly correlate to energy writing it infected the entire world but i mean we had a proper recession here in the us which are defined as declining corporate profits consecutively so i i it was a proxy five quarters we stave that off ripe and really they did to right they never had the true economic recession at us typically associate with an its at one of the first time to the history of actually seen even in the us go through their proper session not leading to a true economic recession and so when you when you actually look at kind of spreads nearly i do believe if you look at yields there's been such correlation in global bond yields that the reason you have some of this some kind of i won't called a ceiling but the fact that you have yields in the us a little too low relative historical standards as measured by gdp um i think a lot of it stimpson the fact that you had this compression because they continue to buy bonds it's not just that they won't hike rates negative forty basis points in overnight lending but they also bind 60 billion euros so draghi cuts 30 billion of that out in january that's thirty less that 30 billion euros left he's by and the feds dumping more into the two so we could see an increase in rates in 2018 yeah and that's that's kind of our stance at this point is that yield should push higher from these levels and historically long bonds and and you know trade around nominal gdp so that says you know maybe there about one hundred basis points to rich today and lombi in thirty we have been speaking with jeff sherman he is the deputy ceo at double on capital if you enjoy this conversation we love your comments feedback and suggestions right too.
